Hampton Bay Patio Furniture

Hampton Bay Furniture, sold by Home Depot stores, is manufactured by JRA Furniture, headquartered in Cerritos, Calif., which proudly boasts that its furniture is made in "factories throughout Asia." Yes, and we can think of many consumers who would have been happier if JRA's glass=top tables had stayed in Asia.

Besides Hampton Bay, JRA's glass-top tables are sold under a number of brand names, the most notorious being Martha Stewart. Her line of patio furniture, sold by Kmart, has produced an explosion of complaints from consumers about its nasty habit of exploding all over their patios and decks.

See Sounds of Summer: Martha Stewart Tables Shattering for all the gory details.

Jill of Salt Point, NY July 24, 2009

I bought a 3 piece balcony set and the one chair broke in 3 places where it is sodered. They don't carry that set in Home Depot anymore and I don't know how to reach the company. It was a 300 set and now I only have one chair and can't even add to it.

Eric of York, SC July 22, 2009

I have purchased several items from Home Depot from the Hampton Bay pation Lasserre series. The 7 piece table set had a frame issue. The 5 piece Lasserre bar set has an issue with one of the swivel bar stools. BJI has none of these chairs or components of these chairs. They have no plans to manufacture any more as well. I have over 3000 worth of Hampton Bay Lasserre furniture that is less than 3 years old and I am not able to make warranty claims or purchase replacement parts. I thought that retailers must offer replacement parts for 10 years in the USA for retail items? I have spent several thousand dollars at Home Depot over the last 5 years. I contacted Home Depot and got a pleasant response until I queried them on how they were going to replace my entire bar set, since I have no use for a swivel bar stool that doesn't match.

Alexis of Austin, TX July 21, 2009

I purchased two 7-piece Hampton Bay outdoor sets. The glass in both tables shattered into a million pieces. Now both sets are utterly useless. Sure there should have been a recall by Hampton Bay or Home Depot?

Miriam of Gilbertsville, KY July 20, 2009

I purchased in 2008 the Hampton Bay Folian table and 6 chairs (7 piece set) and the bistro set (3 pieces) from Home Depot. Last weekend the large glass tabletop completely shattered into a million pieces for no reason. Thank goodness we were not sitting at the table at the time. Apparently, I am not the only person that this has happened to and think there should be a recall and we should be given new tabletops or a new set. Also, the "paint" is chipping off the table and a couple of the chairs. For what this furniture cost me it hasn't held up well at all and I am very disappointed.

Natalie of West Mansfield, OH July 20, 2009

Glass Patio table top shattered for no reason. Hampton Bay is the name on it. Minor cuts on arm. Thousands of pieces to clean up in garage.

Jerome of Valley Mills, TX July 19, 2009

The base of a swivel chair from Home Depot, Hampton Bay, failed this morning. The aluminum welds failed and I fell backwards and hurt my back. Fortunately my head hit the grass beside our concrete patio or I would probably be dead. This swivel chair is part of a set of two chairs and a table with a tile top. I purchased this set last year. This is just poor workmanship, which is what you would expect from China. Home Depot and Hampton Bay products sould both be held accountable when they distribute and sell bad products.

David of Winterville, NC July 17, 2009

My wife and I purchased the Hampton Bay patio furntire set from home depot in May of this year. After a month of owning the furntire the glass table top exploded for no apparent reason. Millions of pieces of glass were all over our deck. It took me 3 hours to clean it up. I also sliced my foot open on a piece. We have two small dogs so we had to make sure that we got all of the glass up. To this day we are still finding glass. I am extremely disappointed, especially now that I am seeing the hundreds of similiar complaints. I also see that there is nothing we can do but look for a better set. I had a bad feeling about the set since it started rusting after it's first night in the rain. Paint also started chipping off no more than a week from buying it. Very poor product and something needs to be done. Home Depot was of no help ofcourse.

Michelle of Stoney Creek, ON July 14, 2009

I purchased specifically an outdoor sitting set and outdoor table and chair set by Hampton Bay. - I absolutely LOVE it, but after taking all the furniture out from storage, I found paint chipped off on almost all of my feet of the chairs, and noticed a little bit on the tables.

All items, were wrapped in plastic and stored in a weather proof shed. No moisture, snow, ice or rain was able to touch the furniture. We even had the furniture placed in the yard purposely so that they wouldn't get damaged. I would like some sort of compensation for the damage. I even purchased the furniture at FULL PRICE (It didn't go on sale until the following week) I am a little upset, as now I may have to look at replacing both entire sets. I wasn't sure if the store was able to do anything, so I figured I'd start here, and see what I can do.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find the original receipt for both products. As well, I would like to find out how to order new parts (nuts and bolts) for my dining table as these were missplaced over the course of winter storage? Kindly reply to the email noted, as I would like to have this taken care of sooner, rather than later. I'm not happy when I am entertaining, and my company makes mention of the condition of the furniture, and it being my second season with the furniture.

Barbara of Marietta, GA July 11, 2009

I purchased a Hampton Bay patio table from Home Depot last year. The table top shattered about 6 months after purchase spontaneously when not in use. I recently replaced the glass by taking it to a glass company. While the table was there, another customer was bringing their table in for the same problem.

Eddie of Chesapeake, VA July 10, 2009

The glass shattered into a million pieces while no one was using it.
