Ethan Allen

I of Radnor, PA October 19, 2008

We spent about 3700 on a dining room set. W seldom use the dining room so the chairs have not had much use. But 6 years after we got it, the leg on one of the chairs just gave way under me (I only weigh around 110 lbs). Someone could have been seriously hurt. The leg is not solid wood - more or less hollow and was held together in the middle but a plywood dowell and glue. There is no way this construction would stand up to regular use.

We bought these to last us till old age not a few uses. The warrenty is 5 years only. Now I am worried about letting anyone use any of the other chairs in case someone gets seriously injured when it collapses and throws them onto the floor or into the table. Ethan Allen will do nothing - it is out of warrenty and they dont care if someone gets hurt.

Chair cost #350 with tax and delivery charge. But it is part of a 3700 set . Without mathing chairs the whole set becomes worthless/useless.

Saw the dining room chair I wanted on the Ethan Allen showroom. Purchased four (4) chairs after discussing Ethan Allen quality and how I have purchased their furniture (dining room set/bedroom set) for years and how I LOVE it!.

Six weeks later chairs arrived. I noticed they felt lighter and upon closer inspection, found a very small gold sticker on seat bottom stating Made in China. Called store and verified chairs on floor had store name burned into wood (which is usual procedure for Ethan Allen products). Was that most of EA furniture if now ASSEMBLED in China, although the wood is American! Right! I've since found other EA chairs (identical to mine) for resale and they are of much better quality. Just beware you ARE not getting what you pay for!

Returned chairs with much hassle and reordered at a lesser price from a Sacramento EA store after they explained to me that the chairs were madein China (explained before I asked).

I purchased a Franklin Full Sleeper Sofa with Lancaster Fabric on 02/17/08. It arrived on June 7, 2008 and when it was sat on it itched and felt like velcro. All family and friends agreed. I first dealt with my sales associate from the Seatuket, NY store (Mimi)and she was unresponsive to my situation. I then spoke with corporate who put the decision with the Setauket office. The Setauket office said no on a return or reupholstering. Sure they did they received their money! I felt this was a biased opinion and was told their was nothing corporate could do.

Another problem occurred with two comb back chairs I purchased from Ethan Allen and they sent a furniture medic to fix. I had the furniture medic touch, feel and take pictures of the couch. His report stated fabric was rough. I then contacted corporate headquarters via email. They assigned me Francine their upholstery specialist. She had me send an arm cover and she was going to look into a solution.

I received a call from Ms. Quinn on October 1, 2008 and she said the fabric was Linen and would need time to soften. They won't compensate as per her words. I would like to mention I spent over 30,000 for my house to be furnished by Ethan Allen and they would absoultely not budge on taking this sofa back or having it reupholsterd. This couch cost me 3,000 and I can't even lay on it.

I am 3,000 in debt for a couch I can not use.

I recently recieved a dining room set from Ethan Allen. It took about 30 days to arrive, and I was thrilled with the service and quality of the products! The dining table looks amazing and the chairs complement it perfectly right down to the fabric on the slipseats which I was apprehensive of when the designer suggested it. The whole room came together and I am so pleased with the professional design assistance as well as the delivery staff.

What a great company to work with. I would highly suggest this company to anyone and everyone who asks.

Thanks, Ethan Allen for a job well done!

In 2005 my husband and I purchased 2 navy Paloma recliners at the Ethan Allen in Traverse City, MI. Within a year after purchasing Wayne wiped off the chair with a damp cloth and the color came off. We went to the store and was told the warranty was expired and to take the chair to a leather upholstery store to get it repaired at our expense and that the company would not do anything about the chair. We were disappointed to think that EA did not back it's products. We were careful not to get the chair wet but just recently I sat in the chair and my arms were damp. The dye from the chair transferred to my arms. Now the chair is really blotchy.

I've called the service representive at the corporate office and after many attempts to resolve this, I was asked to email pictures. Quite frankly I thought that once they see the pictures this issue will be solved. Stu from upholstery emailed that the dye coming off the chair was use related and also not under warranty. We sent a letter to the CEO, Kathwari, and got a response from none other than Stu. This time he said he had researched the leather that has been used in our chairs for the past six years and no one has complained of this problem...and it is out of warranty.

The dye should not come off a 1600 chair in a year or in 20 years. It isn't wearing off, it is wiping off and it's only on one chair. The only way we would discover this problem is when we attempted to wipe it off or, as what recently occurred, my arms were damp when sitting in it. Unfortunately, they claim that this didn't happen after the warranty was expired so therefore, it's not their problem. These are the most expensive items of furniture that we ever purchased but we assumed that coming from Ethan Allen they would be only of the highest quality.

I wish I had read Consumers Affairs complaints before we bought. I don't know where to go to warn people that Ethan Allen is no longer about quality but about expensive furniture. They don't care about their customers satisfaction.

It is just very stressful and time consuming to try to deal with these nasty people. We are not rich and 1600 for a blotchy dyed chair is a very expensive mistake. Very upsetting to say the least.
