Linda of Washington, DC February 18, 2009
Linda of Washington DC (02/18/09) I first went into the Vienna Virginia store of Ethan Allen towards the end of October 2008 and purchased several floor samples. Over the course of the next two months I purchased over 13,000 worth of furniture. Because I purchased mainly floor samples I was treated like a leper. Considering that the furniture was in-store the time from purchase to delivery, months later, was ridiculous.
I worked with a decorator, Candice, and we actually made a trip to my house, where she took measurements and suggested that I purchase other pieces of furniture. She sold me a table that was too large for the space and then claimed that I had insisted on the over sized table and wanted to charge me a restocking charge to switch the table out for another floor sample. She insisted that I have a small three drawer chest to match the coffee table I had purchased. When she did the floor layout of my living room she insisted that I needed the chest for a space in the living room and that it would match with the coffee table.
Well when the chest finally arrived about six weeks later (remember these were all floor samples) it was the wrong color. When my husband called to complain she told him that I knew that the colors would be different and had authorized the chest purchase in a different stain NOT! This weekend they are finally delivering the last piece of furniture I had ordered and Ive got my fingers crossed that it matches the stain on the other pieces of bedroom furniture that it is supposed to match. Candice has no intentions of correcting any of her errors or replacing the miss matched pieces she has sent to me.
We have gone over her head but basically the store manager will not help out, the lack of customer service at this store is unbelievable. I wish I had gone to Thomasville! I am a relatively low maintenance customer there havent been dozens of phone calls and complaints merely requests for corrections to my orders but the management at Ethan Allen has been non-responsive and actually extremely rude. Buyers beware!
Dissatisfied Customer! Bonnie of Altadena, CA February 16, 2009
Bonnie of Altadena CA (02/16/09) For decades, Ethan Allen has been known for quality furniture targeted to middle class budgets. I'm a 30 year customer: I have a Queen Anne chair purchased in 1975 that is still in great shape. I have sofa purchased in 1994 (original upholstery) that is also in great shape. HOWEVER, the chairs I've purchased in the last 7 years do NOT stand up Ethan Allen's quality. The CEOs and managers need to wake up to the fact that Ethan Allen can't produce Ikea-quality furniture and charge Chippendale prices. What's happen to the the middle-class quality furniture market? Even the most loyal of [their] customers are dismayed. And I am one of them.
Janine of Westfield, NJ February 9, 2009
Janine of Westfield NJ (02/09/09) Extremely rude salesperson-condescending and insulting. Lost me as a customer as result. Poor customer service considering this market. Prices are inflated and reasoning given is done so in condescending fashion in order to humilate person into giving in. Quality is not there and poor treatment of consumer in this market means shoppers go elsewhere.
Have read about poor quality of furniture. This combined with insluting attitude of salespeople mean the store actually lost out. Pam of Goodyear, AZ February 3, 2009
Pam of Goodyear AZ (02/03/09) We purchased approx. 10,000 worth of great room furniture for our new home last year and had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We had some things that needed to be reordered but they came very quickly. Everyone was very concerned and called us repeatedly to keep us up to date on our order. I have purchased custom furniture through a designer and bought from some of the most expensive stores in Portland, Oregon and Koplans in Vancouver, Wa as well. Koplan's was just awful. Ten years and my daughter in law still doesn't have knobs for her dining room buffet.
They sold me a 2000 leather chair a lazy boy that was a piece of junk and they first told me it was too expensive and then too inexpensive and that's why the color came off on your clothes. It fell apart in a year. We had to sue the designer to get our furtniture fixed and it was never right. The down feathers came through the fabric and stuck you and the fabric had holes in it within two years. We have no children or pets and are very careful with our things. So Ethan Allan did very well for us and we would buy from them again.
Rosalinda of Chula Vista, CA January 25, 2009
Rosalinda of Chula Vista CA (01/25/09) Purchased a Brady Incliner and a Brady loveseat. Was not satisfied with the quality of the loveseat. During the time of the purchase I was not told that the loveseat and sofa would not be exactly alike. The sofa was firm and similar to what we sampled in the showroom. The loveseat on the other hand was soft and when you sat in the love seat if felt like you were sinking into the seat. Very difficult to get out of. I complained and was told that a repair man would come out to access the loveseat.
His solution was to order new seat pads. The new seat pads were ordered and installed and there was not difference. When I called to discuss my disatisfaction about the loveseat I was referred to Joyce who said she would get back with me. I was asked what I wanted to do and I said I wanted to return the loveseat and order another sofa (Brady Incliner). I was told they would look into it and get back with me. When contact was made I was then told that it would not be possible as the Sofa had been discontinuted. Another solution would have to be determined. I have yet to receive a call back. This has been on going since July 08. My original purchase was made in Jan. Delivery on that purchase was made Feb 21. There is much more to this to get into but in a nutshell I am still not happy with my loveseat.
