USPS - Prescriptions Mishandled

Harry of Trinidad CO (7/31/04):
I live with an elderly infirm parent and she needs to have her mail delivered directly to her door. She has a small mail drop at her front door. I have a Post Office Box at the downtown Post Office. Often I need to be away from home. Therefore, it is essential that Mom gets her mail.

Movie Fans Suspect Foul Play at the Post Office

Last summer in the rush of a heat wave, Mom lifted her front door window each evening for fresh air. She would forget to lower the window. Thus, her mail drop was blocked. The local mail delivery person would come to the door and just walk away. After several days of this "service" the mail carrier finally used his God-given sense to leave a note that all mail was undeliverable. I find it utterly amazing that the mail carrier waited so long to leave a note and that it was acceptable to leave a note but not ring a door bell once to remind Mom that her mail drop was blocked.

I finally returned home and found at my mail box about 7 weeks of mail that belonged to my Mother. I had been away so the mail just grew and grew. Bills were not paid on time, services were terminated and Mom was still waiting for her mail.

I went to the local Post Office and attempted to speak to an official there, a Miss G. She was extremely rude to me and even left me standing in the Post Master's office talking to myself. She was uncooperative, rude and indifferent. She accused me of yelling and that is a total lie.

I did report her to her State Supervisor and he wrote me a letter informing me that our mail delivery people were too busy to ring a doorbell every day for anyone. I had only suggested a one-time ring. Today, G is still on the job and still treating people poorly. I am in the public sector and I hear so many complaints about this woman. Well today, I have another complaint.

TODAY I AM VERY UPSET. My Mother has an arrangment with Medical Liberty to have her essential prescriptions for Diabetes delivered to her by mail. Originally, the medicine was coming to Mom's home but because of last years experience we arranged to have the medicine go to my Postal Box. When I went to secure my mail a week ago, I found 2-3 "Go to Postal Window" announcement. The mail worker only found one item; a CD from America Online. The worker could find nothing more. She figured it was a mistake.

Today, I received a phone call from Medical Liberty to inquire if my Mother was dead or not. They sent her usual supply of Glucovance and the local Post Office returned the medicine to the company. What really upsets me is that they even marked the box "Return to Sender - Party Deceased". As I write this, my Mother is in the kitchen watching her favorite soap and having tea. Neither she nor I is amused that she has been reported dead.

Heaven knows who else these idiots at the Post Office have reported this false information to. This is a very serious issue. First, my Mom will be delayed in received her medicine. Second, I worry who else may now think Mom is dead.

The damage here is three fold. First, my Mother is delayed in receiving a very crucial prescription she is required to take each day. Second, we are now very worried who else may have been informed that Mom is deceased. Third, my Mother is now very upset that someone at a Government building has informed others that she is deceased. An elderly person does not need this stress. Mom is visibly upset. I'm furious.
