USPS - Privacy Violations

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Every time I go to get my mail from my post office box in Los Angeles, California zip code 90060, I noticed certain letters are opened. For example, my mail from the Unemployment Office, letters from the DPSS, my child support letters and mail from family members who celebrate Christmas. I do believe in Jesus Christ and letters that I have even mailed to myself. Also letters from the following offices listed above have been delivered to me late.

So I spoke to the supervisor (Elanie **, that's what I was told her name is), she proceeded to tell me that these government agencies put the wrong barcode on the mail sent to me. Really?! She also mentioned that if they had the same barcode that is in the post office area that she would not authorize "her" employees to open my mail. Isn't this an invasion of privacy, a violation of my "American Rights"? I was born in this country. My parents are (and I am proud to say) veterans from the Vietnam War. I wrote a poem defending President Obama and Vice-President Biden in a poetry chat book and some of my friends have ordered the book from but their money order was returned to them opened!

I sent a restricted delivery package that contained personal and sensitive information to a specific person. I watched the clerk stamp the package numerous times "restricted delivery ". She told me she could not control what was done in another state, but wanted me to see her mark it. I should have known then not to trust this sensitive information with USPS.

I sent a certified letter with restricted delivery to prevent a person from getting it. That person was permitted to sign for letter. The person it was addressed to has never seen it. I'm terribly upset with USPS service. Addressee has never seen it. I verified today by calling that person.

I received an opened oversized letters two days in a row. One time, the bigger envelope contained a smaller envelope inside. The side of the bigger envelope was torn and the side of the smaller envelope was cut (by knife of scissors). On both occasions, the big envelopes were bended, damaged, and inserted into a small mailbox, while the bigger mailboxes are available next to the small mailboxes for the oversized letters and packages. (I live in the compound where mailboxes for various houses are grouped together).

The goods which were sent to me were damaged. Someone in USPS is checking private mail. This is a total outrage!

My mailman signs for my signature confirmation packages and leaves them at my door. He admitted to me that he does this as some sort of 'favor', but this is illegal and completely voids the value of the signature requirement. If something happens to the package between the time he puts it in the mailbox and the time I retrieve my mail, I am not covered, because technically, the package has been in my possession since the mailman signed it away. I don't want to be rude and offend him, he does control my mail. I just don't want him to sign for my packages anymore.

On Thursday, September 1st, 2011, the mail carrier assigned to delivering mail to **, did not deposit the mail in the mail slot in the front door of the house but instead, gave it to a person who was in front of the house but does not reside at this address. If mail carriers do not follow proper protocol, then I feel that my mail is not safely delivered. Can you tell who is getting my mail on any given day?

My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years now. He has a business in 3 different countries and is away a lot so, we email, call and use the postal service to send letters, gifts, etc.. Due to someone taking mail out of our mailbox at our home address I got a P.O. Box at the post office. I also have an Internet based Store and am shipping and receiving payments every day.

This is is a VERY small town and everyone wants to know what you're doing. Recently I started receiving mail at my P.O. Box late (a month late) and the tops of my letters from my boyfriend are being opened! As if they ripped it across the top with their finger!
My boyfriend and I don't get to see each other often so some of these letters are as you would imagine between two young people, if you know what I mean. I didn't like that they were opened at all! A few days later, I went to the post office to ship a package and the man working there looked at the name on my package (my name) and asked if that was me. I said, yes that's my first name but most people address me by my middle name.

He had a weird look on his face and said, "I'm not going to tell you what I heard about you!" I said, what? He wouldn't tell me. He just went on and processed my packages as if he never said it! The post office only has about 3 or 4 workers. That man and I were the only people in the front when he said that to me. That shows me for sure he or someone in the post office there is the one opening my personal mail and gossiping about my personal life! I want it stopped!
