It was rainy as hell and my package was left on the doorstep. It was not only soaked, but slightly opened already, probably due to the humidity. Since I had already come from the post office minutes before, I hopped in my car to show them what happened. The manager told me that they weren't responsible if my item was damaged. The package wasn't insured. My only option, she said, was to return to sender.
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I received my Ladies' Home Journal today (June 2012), and the cover was in shreds and it was ripped in half for the first 49 pages. It was put in a plastic bag; don't know what that was supposed to help.

I had a package shipped. When it arrived, it was damaged. I took it to the post office with all the paperwork. The guy at the post office said the insurance man would look at it and get back with me. After a week, I called the P.O. lady, who said the guy was wrong and that they sent the package to the insurance man, who then would contact where I purchased it, where it was sent, or me; she was not sure which. It's been two weeks, and I heard nothing.
Here is the good part. When I went to the P.O. and asked how all is worked, the guy told me the insurance would only pay for the cost of the item and would not pay shipping fees. I said, "Let me get this straight. I buy something, pay you to ship it, you damage it in shipment and don't refund the shipping." He said that's how it works.
I recently ordered a few items of clothing from American Eagle for my children. The clothing was shipped in a bag. When the bag arrived, whoever delivered my mail that day had stuffed the bag into my mailbox very tightly and then stuffed my envelope mail beside it to the point that it was crumpled. This wouldn't be a problem if it were a smaller bag and could actually fit! It was packed in so tight that the bag was ripped by the screws in the top of my mailbox and almost ripped a pair of cargo shorts that I'd rather not have to re-buy!
But that's not where it ended! Because The package was stuffed in my mailbox so tightly that the force that had to be applied to pull it out pulled my whole mailbox away from the post almost completely! I was angry, to say the least! I can't afford to re-buy things, because someone wanted to be careless instead of bringing it up to my house. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

I'd like to post a formal complaint against the mail carrier that delivers my mail at ** Buzzards Bay, MA. I have reached a limit of time and effort I can complain about this person to the local Buzzards Bay Postal Service and nothing, absolutely nothing is done about her. The latest incident happened yesterday when an 11x14 hard envelope with specific instructions on the front DO NOT BEND - PHOTOS INCLUDED was folded in half and placed inside my mailbox with the typical mail. Needless to say, the pictures inside were ruined. As my husband immediately took the envelope to the Manager at the post office, Mr. Chuck **, stamped the envelope with Arrived Damaged and informed him to call the sender, Sears portrait in this case, to resolve the problem.
I was appalled with his approach to this matter. Not only I have to waste my time calling the Portrait people, wait for a new packaged to be printed, wait for delivery and take the chances of the same poor judgment of the postal carrier. Another incident was less than a month back. I had an 8x8 package, with the same DO NOT BEND - PHOTOS INCLUDED left on the ground by my mailbox, not in a plastic bag, in a rainy day.
I could go on listing several similar incidents or mention countless times we get our neighbors mails and vice-versa. The bottom line is that this person needs to either obtain the proper training to perform her duties or find another job.

I have been shipping boxes through USPS daily for the last year. At first, I was getting notices from customers that the boxes I ship in have been smashed and thanks to all the padding I provide around my items, nothing had been broken. Now, I am starting to get notices that boxes are smashed along with the items. I bubble wrap each item so thick and the pad all around. This week alone, I had to give 3 refunds. For now on, I insure everything. Maybe they will get so tired of paying off claims that they will be more careful. I don't know, I guess we will see.

About every 3 months, I either receive a torn up or only a cover with an apology for my People Magazine. I find it interesting that this is the only magazine that has this issue. My others seem to arrive just fine. Today again, I received only a portion of the cover with an apology, with no magazine in sight! I pay quite a bit for this subscription and would appreciate being able to receive it! It's beginning to be a little bit suspicious. Now, once again, I am missing this issue completely. It doesn't seem right that there is no consequence at all to the postal service and I just have to pay for something that I'm not receiving.
On several occasions, too many to count, the condition of our mail has been unsatisfactory. We have received cards that are ripped, magazine covers ripped, letters crumpled up. It seems as if the mail carrier shoves the mail into our mailbox with no regard for its condition. We live in a four-family house with mailboxes and not a mail slot for our mail, and I understand that sometimes the fit can be tight, but there is no reason for the mail to arrive in such a condition. If the magazines do not fit into the mailbox, then they can be left on the porch instead of shoving everything into the box with no regard if the items are crumpled or ripped. I have called regarding this issue in the past, and it seems that it was not addressed as our mail is still arriving in poor condition.

Broken products at the time of delivery - My fiancee and I are receiving wedding gifts via USPS and two gifts have now been delivered irreparably damaged. A ceramic bowl mailed from Ashburn, Virginia and a glass bowl mailed from Omaha, NE have both arrived in shattered condition. While I could believe one delivery could have been an accident, this is turning into a routine. I don't know if it is the postman on our street or the system as a whole, but something needs to change.
I send a money order in the mail and it got ripped up in the mail. The place I send it to, send half of it back. So what do I need to do to get my money back on the money order?

Well, where do I start with the runaround I have been getting from the USPS? First off, I'm a regular user of the USPS and ship multiple items 2 to 3 times a week out of my eBay store until now. I take my packages into post office and pay cash to mail my items and have watched many times how rough workers handle packages, even ones marked "fragile" in bold letters by tossing them into a bin or dropping them from several feet with no regard to what it is. Makes me wonder what happens when no one is watching them during transport or in the hubs that sort the packages! Well, my last experience that prompted this letter just cost me over $200, so yes, I rather pissed not to mention all the runaround I have got.
I shipped a very expensive 10lbs transmission shaft in a heavy cardboard shipping tube taped all the way around and on both ends with commercial shipping tape. Well, my customer received the tube tore all to pieces and looked like it had been drug behind a truck and ran over several times but no shaft in it. I have spent countless hours and at least 10 phone calls and numerous trips to the post office talking with these people. Oh did I mention I paid for delivery confirmation and now almost a month later, it still shows as not delivered? So I actually paid for service I didn't get once again. Well a case was opened when my customer got his package missing contents. A week or so later, I called back and they told me it was delivered and case was closed. Huh? I said. How could you deliver it without a package and asked to speak to someone higher up who might be able to help me.
After talking to them and going through the whole thing once again (about the 5th time now), they said we will have to open another case for you! We will call you on the next business day, they said and I agreed. 3 days later, I called back since I haven't heard from them. I talked to a girl in FL, who told me they would start checking at all the places it passed through and see if they could find it. But in the same breath, she told me it's almost impossible to locate missing item unless it had your name or some other markings that could identify it. Funny as it only took a few days to lose it, so I sent them a picture which speaks a thousand words and I would only hope they have at least one smart enough person to be able to match a picture with an item. So I told her it's over 2 feet long and weighs 10+ lbs. She then told me it might take 4 to 12 weeks and if I didn't hear back from them, I could pretty much kiss it goodbye. Sorry, this is not acceptable to me.
What ever happened to customer service? I guess because it's a government job, they do what they want, when they want and get paid the big bucks to do just that. It's really no wonder our economy has wound up in the crapper and we get almost everything from overseas now because none of the major companies take any pride in their work or jobs and quit raising prices when they do less. Like so many others, I'm sure they really don't care as long as they get that paycheck every week. I do make this promise USPS, I can and will stop using your service if this is the way you chose to run your business as UPS does take a little more pride in their work and business.

I ordered 20 of my new books via UPS and they arrived quickly three weeks ago in pristine, brand new condition. This time, in order to save a few dollars, I gambled on the post office because I still perceived them to be a respectable organization. So, I let them handle the delivery of the second 20 of my new books. That was a big mistake! Not only did they drop the 25 lb pound box causing it to split completely open, spilling all 20 copies of my 380 page book on the ground but they put dirty books back into a very poorly taped box in a helter-skelter (senseless) order that caused even more damage to my property. Not a moment was spent by the post office cleaning my books off or trying to arrange them in a manner that would prevent further damage. Even the seams of the box, which were now split completely apart, were taped so poorly as to leave one inch gaps for the books to shift around even further while in transit. Bent and damaged covers and filthy books was the result of their poor package handling skills.
Furthermore, not one person stood up to take responsibility for their mistake. If that was one of my people and they tried to cover this up and not display the honesty of admitting fault and offering an apology then I would fire them on the spot! Not the post office. They just say, "It's not our problem. You should have bought insurance." What I should have done was to pay the extra money to have a respectable company, one that actually cares about its deliveries ship these to me. Well, I won't be making that mistake a second time and I'll be looking for alternative delivery methods at every opportunity! I'M Pat ** and I swear to the authenticity of this report!

I've had problems through the years with damaged mail and neighbors bringing our mail to us after it was taken to the wrong house. This worries me as some mail contains account numbers and statements from our bank. This should not happen as often as it does. We have numerous times gotten our neighbors' mail. Some come from other addresses in our subdivision, so I place it back in the mail box. Hopefully, it goes to the correct house. I don't like to complain but someone dishonest could get their hands on private information and cause my family and I a lot of problems. I hope you finally correct these problems.

December 27th 2011, I received a damaged package. Instead of filing a claim through eBay or PayPal, I decided to rely on the USPS insurance the seller has bought for the package. That has been one of the biggest mistakes of my life. It's been almost two months since the claim has been in process. My local post office has mailed the damage report twice to the accounting department and they keep saying they haven't received it. The seller stopped communicating with me because he knows the time to file a claim through eBay or PayPal and/or leaving a negative feedback is past due. They USPS accounting department has proven their incompetency and unwillingness to solve the situation, so I will no longer deal with the USPS. I'd rather pay more with the private companies and have a better service than to deal with USPS ever again.

I send a bill out on March 1, 2011. On March 6, 2011, it was sent back to me. The money order was damaged. The company that I sent it to said they could not cash the money order because it was damaged. I went to the post office to get the problem fixed and I had no luck. I called up the 800 for the USPS and they told me to go back to the post office and to fill out a form call PS Form 6401. So I called the post office up to see if they have that form so I can go fill it out. The guy on the phone told me that he didn't have that form. All I would like to see out of this is for the $100 money order to be replaced since it did get damaged during the mailing proses. It's the post office fault it got damaged. If this didn't happen, I would not be writing you right now. Thank you very much.

I run a small seed company that requires me to ship seed packets throughout the US. Even though my envelopes are marked with blaring red letters that state "NON-MACHINABLE! DO NOT CRUSH! ", my seeds always arrive at the recipient in pieces. Even when I changed my shipping methods to bubble envelopes and boxes now stamped with the same message in addition to "FRAGILE!", my customers are still reporting that their packages are torn to pieces and boxes squashed thin. Maybe it's time I started shipping out seeds in Kevlar?
Recently, my mother also sent me some porcelain dishes in boxes that were padded, filled with packaging peanuts, swaddled in bubble wrap, and crammed with newspaper while marked "Caution! Handle With Care! This Side Up! Contains Porcelain!" in the largest red letters known to man. Somehow, despite all these precautions, every piece of China had managed to be smashed.
If that isn't bad, the mailer envelope containing heirloom photos of my family and my pregnancy ultrasound was sharply bent 3 times to be crammed with my other mail despite printed warnings of "Photos: DO NOT BEND!"

I received a birthday gift from my cousin who lives in Oklahoma. She mailed the package priority mail and did not insure it. The contents of the package were 2 gnomes for the summer garden season and 2 cake pans. Everything was wrapped and when the package was lifted there were no indications there would be movement in the box. The 2 gnomes valued at $30 were smashed. According to the postal service, it would be against the law to reimburse me for the contents of the package. What is to prevent postal employees from throwing uninsured packages around just to make a point to buy the insurance?

On Wednesday, February 15, 2012, our mail was received soaking wet. We have a locking mailbox, and we had received a travel packet which really did not fit in the box, leaving everything sticking out in the rain. Tax documents and the travel packet were soaked. These should have been left at the door, which is covered and secure. Our regular carrier would never have done that (Debbie).

Postman for Apple Valley just threw expensive college books over my fence into my yard with my dogs. One book worth $157.67 was demolished and the post office said there was nothing they could do about reimbursing me.
I sent an expensive figurine to Australia via USPS. It was packaged within bubble wrap, peanuts and a box with Styrofoam lining. This box was placed inside another box, with Styrofoam between the box layers. I am no novice at this. I insured the package for $700 and shipped to Australia. When it arrived, it was destroyed, obviously dropped from some height as the contents were broken in a manner that suggested a fall. Of course, the Postal authorities immediately branded the package as having insufficient packaging material for international standards and denied the claim. There is no appeal process. There is photographic evidence of the damage, and the package was $100 to ship with the insurance. I'm out the cost of the item, all profit and shipping. The customer was refunded, and the Post Office keeps shipping charges and the insurance fee.

I was sent a package from my parents that included two cashmere sweaters and canned goods. When I opened the box 90% of the contents were removed and replaced with a gallon of lamp oil and trash. I immediately walked back into the post office and I was told by one of the employees Ricky, the station manager of the North Beach Post Office who was temporarily working at the Pine Street Post Office, that they would call the inspectors to investigate. I went back 3 hours later to follow up and the manager, Art **, refused to assist me. He also lied and said an inspector was on their way. I called the inspector's office to confirm and they said no request was made. Art needs to be reprimanded. I'm sure someone in his office tampered with my package. He was extremely hostile towards me.

I ordered an item online and it arrived in a box that was clearly marked "fragile" in several places. The box had been severely crushed and the product inside had been damaged. I contacted the company who sent it and they very kindly sent out a new item. The second box was also crushed when it was delivered. When we confronted our mail carrier about it, he blamed it on the type of box it was. That shouldn't even matter when something is marked fragile. The company said that the boxes were supplied by USPS specifically for their product. These mail carriers need to stop being so lazy and take care of the packages people pay for!

In the last week, I sent 12 eBay packages from Summitville and Alexandria, IN. Of those 12 packages, four have been damaged. To me, this seems to be a deliberate destruction of packages. This damage has cost myself over $160. I don't know where this is happening. I wish the incidents could be investigated to prevent more damage.

Today, I received a reimbursement check for nearly $1,000, 5 days late and torn completely in half! The part that was missing had my social security number on the part of the check. I received the other half inside of a plastic bag inside of a USPS envelope and a USPS sticker on the half of the mail that I received stating "we apologize about your damaged mail". I am totally upset right now because the mail lady in my area always deliver the wrong mail to the wrong house. I receive others mail constantly, and constantly return them or drop them back in the mail box. When I called the USPS Location for my mail, they were blaming the Detroit Location? The supervisor told me that he saw the mail arrive this way to his location and the mail carrier was afraid to deliver it. Now, I have to worry about my identity being stolen through all of this. Not happy at all.

I shipped a package to my Mother of photos of my children. She lives 11 hrs away and does not get to see her grandchildren but once a year. I packaged up 2 nice frames (the expensive matted ones) with some professional pictures done for her. They were each individually wrapped in bubble wrap (lots of it) and then packed in a box small enough they would not bounce around and then the box was stuffed with shredded packing all around the frames.
She got the package 4 days later and it has a big dent/tear in one corner. 2 of the frames were broken, not the glass but the actual frames so it had apparently been dropped (and hard at that). Now she has 1 frame that she cannot go out and buy matches for because they were specially ordered. It apparently does no good to write fragile, do not drop, breakable glass all over the box! Makes me wonder, was it dropped on purpose?

My sister-in-law shipped our professional pictures to us from out of state in a photo mailer envelope that clearly said, "Do not bend." On Saturday, I go to my mailbox to get my pictures, and the mailer is rolled up and shoved into my mailbox. All my pictures are bent. Yesterday (Monday, January 23), I went down to the post office to figure out a resolution. I asked the lady at the counter what the envelope said. She said, "Do not bend". So I picked up the envelope, showed her where it was clearly bent, and she yelled for the man who is apparently my mail carrier. He came out and I asked him the same question. He looked at the envelope and then at me and said "So? I just rolled it." Then he demonstrated how he bent the item. I nicely said it is clearly bent and so are all of my pictures. His response, "What do you want me to do about it? Pay you for them?" I said "Yes, actually."
Unexpectedly, he pulled $115 out of his wallet and handed it to me and proceeded to storm away. I spoke with the woman at the counter after that and told her that I didn't feel right taking his money and asked if there was anything we could do through the postal service. She said no and that he's my postal carrier and should know better, so to take the money. So, I asked her to thank him for making it right and I left. At 9 o'clock this morning, I get a phone call from the post master. Apparently, she's my carrier's mother and is accusing me of doing something illegal and is demanding that I return the money and file a complaint with her about the damage (which obviously won't do any good because that's his mom) or give her the pictures in the original packaging and write a receipt to him that says he paid me for them. If I do not, she has insinuated that if we don't do one or the other, she will accelerate it to someone above her. She also keeps stating that it is illegal for a postal carrier to pay someone for something they damaged.
These pictures were taken out of state, and the nearest place to get them retaken is over an hour away. Also, the pictures are worth more than $115. I only asked that someone make amends and his solution was to give me that much money for them because he was the one at fault. It would cost far more than $115 to drive to the portrait studio, get the same amount of pictures we had before, and drive home. My husband went to the post office and was irate. He got angry and yelled, but that was all. No resolution was made, and my local post master is convinced that I forced her son into giving me the money for the pictures. I was told by customer service to file a complaint and someone would help me further. Is there really anything she can do regarding this situation or would it be considered someone paying someone for something they damaged? If I do have to return the money, is there anything else I can do?

My prescription refill was returned by the US Postal Service due to damage. I received a delivery card stating "parcel damaged and return to sender." Now, Express Scripts is telling me I have to pay for a replacement. How do I know it was damaged and not just opened and the prescription stolen? There is no record of return for the tracking number on the delivery card. We have received horrendous parcel delivery over the past years. No wonder USPS is going out of business. Recently, our mailbox door was left open with a parcel wrapped in a Harris Teeter plastic grocery bag sitting on the open door because it would not fit in the box. It snowed inside the box so the paper mail was wet and stuck together. We have a sign on the mailbox requesting all parcels be delivered to our front door per the local USPS supervisor. Never happens. They have lazy unmotivated carriers.

I received my tax papers from work today. They were in a package from the post office apologizing for the damage to the mail. When I opened it, my tax papers had a large chunk torn out of them, the part with my personal information including my social security number. Now I have to worry about some criminal who has my social security number. I have to report it to the IRS and track my credit report to watch for identity theft.

My sister-in-law sent a birthday card to my 6 year old son. The card took a week to arrive, and was late for his birthday. When we got the card, it was inside a clear plastic bag saying "We care. Sorry for the damage caused by the handling of your mail." The weird thing was that the envelope was basically shredded, but the card itself was virtually untouched or bent. She had a $50.00 bill well taped to the inside of the card. But the money was gone, and there were obvious marks to the card where the tape was torn off. I realize it's only $50.00, but it belonged to a 6 year old boy. Shame on the USUP employee who pocketed that!

I received two cards in the mail today, January 18, 2012, one from Arizona and one from Virginia. Both envelopes were torn open. The one from Virginia had been torn open and then re-taped. The one from Arizona was torn but not re-taped and contained a greeting card but the one from Virginia had a greeting card and were supposed to have a $50 Macy's gift card in it! Guess what? There was no gift card in the envelope but just the greeting card. Obviously, someone in the post office opened both envelopes and stole the gift card.
It had to be someone from the Post Office as the mail was from two different states! That gift card was a gift to me from a relative and I feel terrible that they paid $50 for a gift for me which some low life in your postal service chose to steal! I am also reporting this to my local post office on Thursday, January 19! I have a feeling you should be looking at your main hub mail sorting in Shrewsbury! You obviously employ thieves! I expect someone to contact me regarding this issue. My relative in Virginia will also be contacting their postal service.

The birthday card delivered was completely ripped in half. My aunt sent me a Starbucks gift card that was obviously stolen! The funny part is that the return address for my aunt is clearly on the envelope, but my address is unreadable and incomplete! How did the mail carrier know which address to deliver to. Perhaps, the mail carrier enjoyed some hot Starbucks on me. I'm completely furious! I will file complant with the local post office.

My friend from Switzerland sent me 40 francs of Suisse chocolate but the box arrived empty. It was marked with "box arrived empty at destination" in red. I guess the postal workers enjoyed some delicious chocolate for the New Year.

I received a Priority mail envelope yesterday in the mail that had been ripped open with nothing in it. It came in a clear plastic bag with a, "we apologize for this inconvenience," note on it. I have tried calling the 800# and cannot get through to anyone to see where this may have gone wrong.

I'm upset because I do not like how our mail carrier puts stuff in magazines and even puts magazine within magazine. Yesterday, December 30, 2011, I discovered that my first issue of All You magazine finally made it my house. The downfall is that I only received the cover because the mail carrier stuffed it inside another magazine and the whole magazine fell out somewhere before it got to my house. I have received other magazines in this fashion and never had this happen before. But I have set aside magazines before not knowing that there were bills or other important letters shoved in them. I'm only made because many of my magazine subscriptions are free but I actually paid for All You. Now what?

I ordered a product from eBay. It left California on December 19, 2011. It reached Atlanta on December 21, 2011, and sat there until reaching my local post office on December 28, 2011. I only know this, because of tracking info. Then, when I received the package today, it had been ripped open, with a stamp over it, stating it was damaged, empty contents, or something else (can't remember exactly what it said). There was nothing in the package. I understand that I didn't have insurance on the item, but I can't believe how there was nothing that could be done. This package was in their possession, so who else could have stolen it, than a postal worker. I am just shocked that they can steal from packages, and nothing can be done, unless you have insurance. It was a small cheap item, so I didn't see a reason to ask for insurance on it, but I never thought someone would just rip open a package, then deliver an empty package to someone.

I must give this information to any authority to investigate Flushing post office for mail theft. I used to order for delivery to my apartment in Flushing. They sometimes deliver empty package, ripped off, item is gone, or just an empty envelope. I thought the USPS delivery guy is stealing, but it happens no matter where I move inside the Flushing area, then I stopped using USPS in Flushing.
I didn't have this problem when I order from my workplace, which is located in Long Island City, NY, because the package shows it's routed to Jamaica, NY, or Queens, NY post office. Then today, I got the same empty envelope ripped off, no item inside. I looked at tracking info shows, the package was routed through Flushing post office. I strongly suggest you to investigate Flushing post office for mail theft. It's been 5 years, and it's still happening, whenever mail is routed through the Flushing office. I submitted the same complaint years ago. It's amazing that it still happens. I opened the case (case# Ca107111932) to USPS, but I think they will give a ** response again, saying it's not insured, so nothing can be done.

I have shipped packages via USPS to Amazon customers countless times. This time a set of Netgear Powerline adapters shipped in original packaging were severely damaged and customer wants a full refund. At the time I shipped the order, these items were new and in original packaging. I would expect USPS to cover the damage cost up to $100. The value was just under $100. How can I make the buyer happy and recover my loss as well?
I am asked to refund nearly $100 for product, shipping costs two ways to the customer, my shipping costs and loss of Amazon fees incurred, left with nothing but fees and damaged product. Not to mention my reputation of poor feedback is at stake.

My magazines keep coming in the mail damaged. We have two mailboxes in the apartments here, one big and one little. I have asked many times for them to put my magazines in the big mailboxes but they will not. My magazines have been ripped, torn, bent and with lines in the pages from bending them.

An envelope with small electronic device purchased online was received with "Unsealed, Without Contents, Damaged Condition" as marked by a sticker on the envelope. The "damage" is on one end of the envelope, and seems obvious that someone (who else besides an employee) opened it. I don't have the time or resources to sue for $70. I can't think of anything else to do besides boycott online stores that use USPS until they switch to another service. What would USPS do with a small complaint from a lowly individual such as myself? What can I do to influence this situation for the good of others that have reasonable expectations of their service provider they paid?

Continually dumping addressed and postage paid. Mail for 48 apartments onto floor in entrance ways, causing trip and fire hazards. Tenants are not receiving mail. Trip, fire and safety hazards.

It is a shame that our post office (Fort Mohave Branch AZ) has to wait for a myriad of complaints before anyone does anything about the flag flying above it. Here it is, the day after Veterans' day, and the flag looks as if it has been in battle. How can our children learn to respect our flag if we do not?!

Ok, I have a 560$ worth of Japanese antique items sent to me by EMS. The packaged was stuffed with soft shawls and loads of bubble wrap. My items were even packaged in smaller boxes inside(box within a box).
USPS claims that the box was not sturdy enough even when I looked them and ask are you serious the items were wrapped in bubble wrap, placed inside another hard box inside with more bubble wrap, yet my package still came like really smashed up. I am really amazed.
They don't even deserved one star.

I went to the local post office today to mail out some packages that needed to be sent out. When I package the merchandise that I sell on eBay, I always use the best and utmost professional ways of packaging as to not have anything damaged during shipping. However, once the package is out of my hands and in the hands of the employees of the post office, I no longer have any kind of control as to how the package is handled.
Anyway, my complaint comes today, when at the post office after paying the fees for shipping, the woman who accepted my packages kindly took them from the counter top and proceeded to "toss" them onto a pile of outgoing mail. She literally tossed them a good 5 feet to the pile of other packages. I guess when you write in bold black marker "fragile handle with care", some employees cannot read and just throw your packages around without a care in the world.
I stood there in disbelief of what I just saw happen right in front of my face. I then kindly said to the woman, "Is that the way all packages labeled "fragile" get handled around here?" She just looked back at the pile and said, "Oh, it's okay, no harm done." How the ** would she know whether any damage or harm was done. I am really getting tired of the problems I have been dealing with lately and am about to get in touch with the higher-ups and see if I can have this post office investigated.

I mailed a package, pretty good size, no weight to it, from Omaha post office on October 24, 2011 to Quincy, IL. It is a wreath for my mother's grave. When it arrived at Quincy post office, it had holes all over it. The shipping label was torn and was taped and so was all the holes. The stand the wreath goes on was so bent out of shape--two clips that hold the wreath on the stand were gone. It was a disaster. I got no invoice paper or anything showing that I paid shipping. I will not mail anything out of the post office again. Someone needs to pay for the damage.

I have an eBay business. Several items have been damaged during shipment and I package them well. A lot of my buyers are getting mad at me for it when it is clearly USPS. I sell my items cheap and I would not profit if I bought insurance with every single item. Something seriously needs to be done. I tried to call them and explain the situations and all they tell me to do is to purchase insurance. I think that insurance shouldn't even be an option. They should just handle our packages with care regardless. What's wrong with these people?

I've usually always had great service out of my postal workers who deliver my mail. Monday-Friday, it's the same lady, very friendly, extremely friendly, have even had brief conversations with her while she was putting mail in my mailbox. On Saturdays, it's a gentleman that I have yet to meet in person and speak to.
However, lately my magazines have been ripped, torn, bent, twisted, you name it. These aren't huge ones that don't fit. They are regular size, about the size of a sheet of paper. Yet, they appear to be just thrown in there. Also, I get letters in big envelopes that are clearly marked, "Do Not Bend", but it's folded in half and put in my mailbox. Yes, it won't fit otherwise, my mailbox isn't 10" deep. However, it can still be put in, standing up, without bending it. These are very important documents that are to be bent but this is being overlooked and it's highly unacceptable. I can't express how beyond angered I am when I find documents that cannot be replaced, sitting in my mailbox bent.
Now, the Saturday postman puts the mail in the box perfectly, even organized from small to large so it won't bend or rip anything. Everything is standing upright in the box, instead of laid on it's side (portrait). I don't know if the M-F postwoman is having a bad week or month, we've all had them. But this is just unacceptable for a mail carrier.

Moment of frustration after I paid postage on my package. The clerk did the Michael Jordan flip from the scale, tipped off the right hand and into the package cart like a 4 or 5 foot flip away. Total travel I would say was 6-feet. I noted to her that the package was marked fragile on all sides to which she replied, "Oh, it's going to get a lot worse treatment than that, you packed it well didn't you?" Yes I did, but the last time I sent items packed well, they were still broken and now I know why! I did insure them that time, but the item had a higher value and your processing area immediately started down the deflection pathway so we gave up - which I am sure is your policy.
This time, I did not insure but that's no reason for your goons to not care! Oh, that's right, they displayed the same total disregard for all property! Which is why from now on, the US postal abuse system will be my last point of service for anything other than a letter. At least, you can be trusted for letters, but read the writing on the wall as that market dries up. If you don't excel in the alternatives, your attitude will become your demise like so many other American businesses. The point of shipping a package is not so I can capitalize on the insurance and end up with a disappointed recipient. The point of insurance is to cover occasional damage due to unintentional mishaps outside your control, not to cover for apathetic handlers who simply don't care and deflect accountability. I expect my package to be delivered in good condition, other carriers can do it, so could you if your associates made an effort! I'll use someone who cares!

We have an eBay Business, that means we ship every day, and we ship small and large packages. My husband and I have a motorcycle business. We have been using USPS for nearly five years. Now, we know that there is no perfect company and mistakes are going to happen. We get that. But USPS, you guys have gone so far down in all aspects of business.
First, I find it unbelievable that we pay for insurance for a package and have it delivered completely destroyed. First of all, I can't believe that a carrier would even deliver the package in the shape it was in. Then having to fight to get our money back and shifting the blame on the consumer, and never taking responsibility for your lack of care. I'm only left fighting for myself and getting nothing but rude and unprofessionalism from your entire company, business or whatever you call this. I wonder, "is this working for you?" I guess this is why you guys are having to close many office. After the way we have been treated by your business in the last year, we are filing a complaint with the BBB and talking to lawyers. I think more people should, if they are able to do the same. Maybe this will wake them up. I don't know, but something needs to happen.

I mailed a box with 5 soft cover workbooks to a family member. The box was sealed with a lot of tape going across the edges, lengthwise and across the width of the box. It was completely sealed! My cousin received it completely empty. Her mail courier said that it was empty when he picked it up from the post office in Greeley, CO.

A few months ago, I received a final manuscript for my book to be approved. The postal carrier stuffed so much into my mailbox that the item was torn. This delayed the publication of my book. Recently, I was sent a set of photographs from Israel for my approval. The envelope had very large letters "do not bend". The postal carrier folded the envelope to get it into the mailbox. This caused cracks in the photographs. I complained to my local post office on both occasions. Since then, 5 different companies have had mail returned to them, even though they had correctly addressed the envelopes. I complained about this to the same post office. I was told that the person in charge would call me. That was nearly 2 weeks ago. So far no one has called.

I mailed a birthday card to my son-in-law on 8 October 2011. Enclosed in the card was a $25 gift card for Walmart. I did not tape the envelope; I just sealed it with the glue. It arrived in Berryville, VA on 12 October. When the card arrived, the envelope was apparently opened because it was sealed with scotch tape and the gift card was not enclosed. My daughter-in-law got the mail as soon as it was delivered to her mailbox so there was no time for it to have been removed from her box and tampered with.
I contacted the Amissville post office and was told that it didn't happen there and after the mail leaves there, it goes to Dulles, VA. My daughter-in-law contacted the Berryville post office and was told it didn't happen there. She also spoke to her postman and he said that he didn't remember the envelope, though if the damage was done by a sorter machine, the envelope would have been torn. It was obvious that someone deliberately opened the envelope and resealed it with tape.

I have shipped a large number of boxes of personal effects to my new address in Colorado. All of the items were packed well and I had also shipped 2 Gorilla Cases. When I received them, every box looked as if it had been through a war of some kind. Both of the Gorilla cases were actually broken. The plastic was split and a cannot be used again. These cases aren't just a cardboard box, they're pretty sturdy and they don't get broken easily. There was obviously some excessive mishandling of the mail and it's unacceptable.

An item was stolen from package at USPS sort facility. The package was resealed. I'm out of money, even with insurance. USPS and inspectors don't give a ** and make it hard to file a claim. And they blame the customer. I've had it! They are thieves and corrupt!

I bought a Gateway laptop and it was shipped on 9/12/2011 from Texas. It arrived where I lived, damaged, on 9/16/2011. The damage was the result of the USPS Delivery Service. I filed a completed complaint claim form online. I logged online to the USPS site and filed a claim. I supplied them with all the information that they required, along with the copy of forms showing what price I paid for the laptop. I provided copies of the shipper's receipt from USPS. I took a picture of the PC in its condition. I was told that I had to have a computer store verify that the unit was broken and that it didn't work anymore.
USPS sent me a response letter dated Sept. 30, 2011 explaining that I had to present the letter that they wrote me explaining what to do to complete the process along with what evidence they needed. I provided the proof of insurance and evidence of value. I took it to a local USPS mailing center as instructed in the letter that I received and wound up going to 4 different post offices before I could get anyone to help me with my problem or to even remotely understand what I wanted them to do. I was just doing what USPS instructed me to do and I was doing this to get the item inspected so that my claim would move on a little quicker.
Every time I went to a post office, I was instructed each time that there wasn't anyone at these places that could or would handle my claim problems until the last post office that I went to and even then, what they said was not true. I started off by going to the closest place to where I live and that is located in Fogelsville, PA but the supervisor was out undergoing surgery as they claimed and no one would help me there. Then, they sent me off to another location which was Wescosville, according to my address. They said that no one knew how to do the claims there and that I was at the wrong location for that type of transaction. They told me that I should have gone the to the 1000 Postal Road location in the first place because all of those post offices were not the main location for the Lehigh Valley mail and that the branches that served us were for more local transactions.
The place I went to was located across from the Lehigh Valley Airport in PA. When I got there, the person I spoke to told me that the person who handles the claims left a week ago and that he retired. They didn't know how to help me that day and no one there could help me again. Was that because the position hadn't been filled yet? I got so frustrated and I just took the bad laptop to an Allentown location that I know located on Hamilton Street. At the time, there were two supervisors who came to help me with my needs. One person who inspected my item said that it was not working and the other informed me that I had to go back to the 1000 Postal Rd. location I went to before. They explained to me what to do with the paperwork and they asked me to give them another day so that they could handle my case with someone who knew what to do. She taught me how to file the claim properly, so I got all of my paperwork in order. When I went back today to verify all of this information with them, the secretary answered the bell and then told me that I could have come at a better time in the day and that people were on lunch, so they had no one to serve my needs or any of the other customers. This was the only time that I could do this and I was told that any time during business hours was fine with the claims service.
I had already driven around the Lehigh Valley trying to resolve these issues the day before and it should have been taken care of at the first stop without all of this extra running around. I went in hoping to get closer to getting my claim money to replace my damages and they took my laptop. The seller put extra special software and data on the hard drive for me, so now I have no way of getting the data back. I was promised with the sale of the computer when I bought it. The person from the post office inspected it yesterday and she said that I must have an independent computer repair center diagnose my problems for proof paying them $20 to have that looked at. When I went back the second day to the USPS customer service, they were not too pleasant and helpful with my issues. This was at 1000 Postal Rd. in Allentown. I even provided them with extra information to make the claim go as smoothly as possible. I figured that too much info was better than none. When I was at the Hamilton Street location, they said that I could retain my laptop for personal data until the claim was settled completely and I would have to wait for my compensation before I could get the data backed up. The process that helps save the data off the hard drive is a very expensive one and a very time consuming task, so I was hoping to keep the laptop and get the data off in time before I was compensated.
The supervisors already looked at this laptop at the post office for inspection yesterday. Why did they have to take it away from me today and then keep it stored in a shelf somewhere? None of the paperwork says that I must submit the object in question but only for inspection to deem whether it is damaged or not nor did the original letter from the claim request. So here I am out of a lot of money. $450 for the computer and $26 in shipping charges. There was also $5 in insurance coverage, not to mention I had to pay an additional $20 to have my laptop tested by a local business, along with all the time that I spent driving around and all the gas I wasted to find someone to help me with this issue!
I am still waiting for a reply from the USPS. To date, I have no idea what is happening. The status online says, "In progress."

I have had a few things show up missing which are stated "delivered" in the delivery confirmation field online, so I called the online number and did get a callback while I was at work. I tried a few times to return it to no avail. I work close by to the branch, so on my lunch break, I went down and met the postmaster who was very helpful and patient.
Well, I suppose going over the heads of the manager who called me and the mail carrier was seen as emasculating, so the postman is now folding hardcover books and cramming mail into the tiny metal box at my apartment complex. With the lost packages and the damaged book, I'm out like $80 now. I had tried to go through the channels. I work in customer service, but if needs arise, I can be as juvenile and petty. Coffee, flea medicine, a book, and now, I'm in junior high all over again - fun stuff. The postmaster has been helpful, so it's not a straight kick in the balls, at least.

I ordered a photo hardcover book, when I opened it, it was bent. It has stress marks and the cover is warped and not what I paid for. I'm so angry, my memory book is ruined!

On Thursday September 29, I mailed a package to my uncle for his birthday. Last year I mailed him two picture frames for his birthday through USPS, and my uncle received both frames in the same condition that I sent them in. He loved them, and asked for another one this year. I found the frame on sale for about $10, and prepared it to ship.
Since USPS delivered the last frames with no problem, I decided to ship through them again. I wrapped the frame in about six inches of bubble wrap, wrapped it in packaging paper, and wrote "FRAGILE" all over the package. I then took it to my local post office to ship. I was asked if anything in the package was breakable. I answered that yes, it was glass. Remember, it has "FRAGILE" written all over it. I paid around $12 to ship a $10 frame, but it was what my uncle wanted so I did it. When asked if I wanted insurance, I thought about the safe frames hanging in my uncle's house that USPS delivered, so I answered "No". Again, it is a $10 frame that is costing me $12 to ship, why should I pay for insurance when I know that they have delivered a similar package before safely? My uncle received his gift today, October 4. He sent me photos of the damage. The glass is completely shattered, the frame itself was cracked, and the entire piece that covers the back of the frame was destroyed. It looked like somebody jumped up and down on it, and then dropped it off of a building. So now my uncle has no gift, that I so far have spent $32 on. I called USPS customer service, and was told that nothing could be done since I didn't buy insurance for a $10 frame. Then I was told that when you buy a car, you buy insurance, it is the same thing. No, if I buy a car, and entrust it into your care, then your insurance is responsible.
This is just ridiculous. I just tried to call customer service again to speak to a different representative. I was never connected to a person, after 23 minutes of waiting on hold I finally hung up. I did my job of packaging the gift safely to ensure it arrived in the same condition that I sent it in. If it was just a crack in the glass, then okay, I can deal with that, but the damage was so severe that there was apparently an ignorant person handling the package that doesn't know the meaning of the word fragile. So now I get to send my uncle a new frame. So the $10 frame will now cost me about $75 by the time this is all over with. I will never use USPS to ship packages again. I will have to pay extra for UPS just to ensure my gifts arrive to family members safely.

A postal delivery truck ran over my mailbox. The postal worker admitted the damage. I have filed multiple complaints and monthly follow-ups. I am told every month to expect my claim to be cleared in order to pay for a new mailbox. Two years later, I am still being told "next week, we will be in touch". The post manager for my area has admitted that drivers are not reporting truck accidents nor damage.

I sent a package to my mother containing four items. When she received it after 10 days, it only had one item in it. The envelope was the hard cardboard kind that I bought from the post offices with the adhesive strip. She said the seam had been carefully cut, taped with clear plastic and then stapled. I am outraged at this and I realized that I need to insure every single time! This has never happened to me before and I am so disappointed.

I sent a $7.99 musical birthday card to my sister in Coral Gables, FL for her birthday on behalf of my 7-year-old son who thought it would be a great card for his aunt. I received a call today from my sister saying she received the card but it did not play any music!
The envelope was torn on the bottom, so it obviously had damaged the card.
I had even taken this directly to the Darien Post Office to be mailed and told the clerk that it was a musical card and whether it would be okay and safe and she said yes.
I'm very disappointed and mad that I spent this amount of money (and extra postage for it to be delivered) and it got there damaged. This shouldn't have happened!
Very unhappy!

On the second time, my mail was delivered on the ground and the rest was sent at my neighbors with case no. **. And just today, 9-12-2011, the mail lady carrier dumped all my mail on my porch.
I am not sure if mail carriers are being trained correctly on how to deliver mails. I have tried endless times to contact my post office but never get through. I was told during a call on 1800-275-8787 that someone would call me back to straighten this problem but no one ever called.
As a consumer, I want this to be a formal complaint and expect this issue to be corrected from the Saint Petersburg Postal Dept. in a timely manner.

I went to the mailbox at the front of our house after I realized that I had not received a certain package that had been mailed out on 02 Sept 11. I am disabled so my husband mostly goes to the mailbox to pick up our mail. This package had arrived but was jammed into our mailbox. This damaged package had been previously completely opened on one end with scotch tape sealing the end of that opening. On two other sides of the package, it had been partially ripped opened by someone connected to the U.S. Postal Service.
No one from the post office marked this package "DAMAGED" before delivery to our home. Pictures were taken. I have had so many pieces of mail which were delayed, stolen, damaged, etc. in my 16 years of disability. This is why I believe that the insurance industry had already succeeded in infiltrating the U.S. Postal Service including their distribution of mail with under the table monies, placing their own third party reps there, etc. Whenever I criticized my insurer, this is one way they retaliate.
Last October 2010, after my Social Security letter came to me (after the deadline had passed to return it and after making visits to four post offices three of whom with my husband), we found that Southeastern Postal Service Mail Distribution Center governing 610 area code outside of Philadelphia, PA had no manager running their distribution center. None. This information was given to us directly by the front end manager for their post office there, Lenore **. We even asked her to repeat it because we were so stunned. What I found was a woman named Kathy who had managed that distribution center, but it was never relayed to us by this postal manager. I just found it online. In other words, the inmates are running the prison particularly in times of terrorism.

I bought five clothing items from an individual on MomsInStyle.com and I only received one. A medium flat rate box is really big to ship only one children's sweater. There was a communication back and forth between the seller and I and I indicated that the box was more than likely opened en route. How do we prove that? We can't be the only ones that this has happened to. A case is opened with PayPal who will investigate but the likelihood of them finding the USPS thief is probably pretty slim.

Today is the 11th time that USPS has destroyed or vandalized my mail! I received my college books a while back and they were all torn up, out of their package and ruined. Several other packages have been totally torn from the original packaging. Now, I had two customers that had their products (sent from me) completely destroyed! USPS refuses to do anything about it. The employees are careless and destructive. I spoke with a woman a while back about it and she said that she would keep an eye on it from now on. That was clearly a lie!
I had taken photos of the ruined mail and have now asked my customers to do the same. I've filed complaints on the site and still they do not care about the delivery of the mail. I can no longer write this off as coincidences. I just want something done about it. Maybe firings need to start happening before they'll take it seriously. Each time I have a package in my P.O. box, it's destroyed and the packages were opened thrice. They contained very private products that should never be used or opened. Our USPS is disgusting.

My carrier needs training. He keeps putting items in my neighborhood group box that are too big for the box! Apparently, he does not understand that the side he puts mail in is larger than the side the customer takes mail out. Therefore, the item cannot be removed. He also enjoys jamming so much in the box that the key will not turn. On the 18th, I left a note on the box. I sent a complaint by email. And I went to my local PO. I was assured by the supervisor at my local PO that my mail would be hand delivered to me on the 19th. That did not happen! I was expecting two important packages. One is a very sensitive dive computer. Now they are both jammed into my tiny mailbox in 106 degree heat and quite possibly ruined. This carrier does this at least once a month. I have had damaged books many times. I have also had items I could not get out, until I leave a note for him to do something.
This needs to stop! If this is happening to me, just think of the thousands of other customers out there! It's total carelessness! And you wonder why the USPS is in trouble? I worked for the USPS then in 1970's for 10 years. We never treated customers this way. This carrier just does not care. I have placed another notice on my group boxes in hopes this guy will bring me my mail. I have also filed a complaint: Case #**. Please do something.

I received a package from the US Postal Service that not only had a hole on the front but the side was totally ripped open and 1/5 items that were supposed to be in the package were accounted for.
When I called to see what could be done, I had to go to the office and file a form. When I got there, the woman behind the desk didn't know what to do and gave me another number to call and file a complaint. I called said number and all the guy said was that this happens and if it was insured, I could have something done about it. I asked him why it wasn't even taped back, but all he said was "these things happen".
I thought going through people's mail was a federal offense? Plus, is filing a complaint really going to do anything? It's not going to make their ** service any better, that's for sure. I never want to deal with this joke of a company again.

I ordered two posters on two separate occasions. Both posters arrived to me, bent so I asked both sellers if they can resend me another one since they were fairly cheap. One poster arrived bent at the package but the seller had reinforced both sides with hard cardboard since it was an envelope. The other seller upgraded to a triangular tube, but the poster was STILL bent to the same degree as before!

The letter carriers jam the mail into my mailbox, destroying the mail. Also, they do not place it sufficiently into the box and it gets mangled by the lock. I have left notes requesting they leave it on the table next to the mailboxes and asking them to please not render bills, birthday cards, mother's day cards, magazines, etc. into unreadable shreds, but to no avail. In addition, I've made several calls to the USPS customer service and the manager of the generating facility.

Three magazines arrived at the Kirk - Bear Canyon Library on August 3, 2011. They were all in bad shape. The magazines were ripped (one the cover was entirely ripped off), wrinkled, and mangled. One looked like it had been run over.

The USPS mailed me back a copy of my ripped money order and the bill, 75% of my money order was missing and now the USPS will not replace my $57 money order.

My fianc is in Iraq. In the two years he has been in Iraq, he has grown close to a local family. They have always been very kind; offering whatever they do have (no matter how meager) to him for his services in Iraq.
Recently, the wife fell ill. The husband makes less than USD $200 a month; is having a hard time keeping the family fed, and paying the hospital bills. My fianc called me and said he wanted to give this family USD $1000 to help them out. So, in the next package I sent to him, I packed some goodies for a taste of home, and $1000 in cash.
My fianc received the package today. He said the package was opened, marked "DAMAGED" with an official sticker, and the $1000 was gone, along with some of the goodies I packed for him.
We did not insure the package for $1000 because the insurance costs are almost 50 percent.

I ordered two kinds of probiotics, one bottley of Azodyl and four tubes of Priobiocin, from ProbioticSmart.com. This has always arrived in good condition; the local post office has placed it in the refrigerator and I have come to the post office and taken it straight home. This time, the new postmistress told me they would not put in in the refrigerator. It was sent on July 12 with tracking, and I went to the post office on July 14 to claim it. After waiting in a long line, I was told it had not arrived.
I went home and found a card in my mailbox saying my package was at the post office. It was too late to go back get it, so I called the post office, and the postmistress said that since I had been misled, she would put it in the refrigerator until I could get it the next day. I went in the next day, only to find it had been delivered. It was a very hot day, and my mailbox has an open end that tilts toward the afternoon sun. I came home and found the package, which had a large red "Perishable" sticker and green "Refrigerate on Arrival" sticker, in my mailbox, where it must have been 130 to 150 degrees. It had been in the mailbox for an extended period while I was in town to get it, as I had been instructed to do on the card. The contents were very warm and had spoiled. Dr. Jen Fisher told me not to use that Azodyl.

The mail carrier today threw a package at my house rather than just putting it on the front porch. I caught him in the act, since I was on my way out to meet him and get the box. Instead, he heaved it from about 10 feet away. When I yelled after him, he ignored me. I tried two other times to contact him, and he continued to walk away then drive away.
I called the postmaster and was told that my choices were limited, since all she could do was have a "talk" with him. She outlined my choices as:1) live with it,
2) get a PO box, or
3) move. Are you kidding me? Why does the government hire psychos then become surprised when they act out? Why do they agree to this ridiculous civil service rules baloney? If anyone else behaved this way at any other job, they'd be fired on the spot.
Way to go, union leaders! You've protected a guy in the same mold as those who made the term "going postal" a well-known term, defining an unstable employee who eventually acts out. Hold the unions accountable, and maybe, you'll stop bleeding money.

I ordered a Food Lovers packet for my mother. She didn't receive her package so I called Food Lovers and they confirmed it was delivered to the post office in Preston. I called the post office and was told the item was received on June 17. Today is June 27. I was informed that he didn't know where the package was located. After some inquiring, the package was given to another person with the same name. My mother has informed me that this has happened a few times and she has received magazines returned to her, months late or not at all. My mother received her package 10 days late and the contents were opened and we were unable to verify the contents to make sure nothing was missing. This is a town with 1200 people. Mistakes like this should only be made once or twice, not a multitude of times.

They shredded a $50,000 cashiers check, sent us half the check (bank won't re-issue without all the pieces) and failed to update the tracking to show that it had been destroyed by the automated mail sorter. The tracking number was intact, along with half the check. But they failed to update the tracker and left us wondering what happened. Bad customer service. Accidents do happen but take responsibility and update your tracking.
3 months to get needed money to relative in estate settlement and a lot of worry about fraud due to the post office's inability or unwillingness to update the tracker. Maybe we should go back to using people instead of automated shredding sorters. The Wells Fargo bank was not real helpful either in that they claim someone might cash the other half of the check?! Not likely.

I mailed a "bubble wrap" package of pictures on 5/13/11 to my aunt in Ponchatoula, LA 70454, containing 15 to 20 photos,3 1/2 x 3 1/2. When my aunt received the envelope, it was torn open and empty with note attached that said "received in this condition". I mailed this package from the Oxford, MS Post Office. The man whom I talked to yesterday (5/31/11) was as helpful as he could be, but said that the package probably went through the Memphis main office. Any help with this will be appreciated. The pictures are irreplaceable. Thank you.

I received a box on 4/2/11 from Target Corporation, 1000 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55440. It was a free sample I had requested. It was opened at the time I received it and had been gone through. I have no idea if anything had been taken from the bag of free samples, since I do not know what I was supposed to receive. The box was glued extremely well and it was not opened by accident. It was deliberately forced/tore to open. I took photos of the box and the contents of the bag and its contents. The last box I had received, I was suspicious it had been tampered with but wasn't sure. So, I didn't say anything, however, this one had been deliberately opened. I will be making a formal complaint with the Inola office on Monday as well. But this is so wrong!

The packages and the contents were grossly mishandled. The lost items were recovered due to weeks of my efforts, then I found the contents as destroyed. I submitted rightful claims with all documentation, original insurance slips, original boxes to Jenny ** in July 2, 2010. I mailed out complaints to Post General. Autria ** negated the facts and sent two conflicting letters on the same day. I videotaped the opening of the boxes because the exterior clearly showed gross damage and openings. I had to track three of the packages on my own when they were sent back to Missouri after reaching Bell, CA sorting for Santa Monica delivery.
Below is one of the many letters I sent. I also sent them photos of the damage the day I opened and photographed right in the post office building. For whatever reason, they appear to be stalling to cause the claim to expire. For example, corresponding with my mother, opposed to me, who had packed the packages and received them. My mother only carried them to the post office. The insurance is far less than the loss of property, and this has been proven with original receipts and letters from repair professionals along with proof of replacement on similar items.
I am seeking assistance from your agency to obtain the rightful long overdue compensation from the post office. Thank you for your attention to this matter. With an email, I can submit the photos of damage to your agency.

An antique crock that I shipped with insurance via USPS was broken in shipment. The New England, ND post office is denying payment saying "the Styrofoam was too hard." This was the fourth antique crock that I had shipped via USPS and was packed the exact same way but this fourth crock was the only one that was broken. The crock cost $26.45 plus $16.94 shipping for a total of $43.39. I would like for the buyer to be reimbursed for the total expense which she paid since I had insured the package and it was very well packed. If the insurance isn't honored, I will have to reimburse her for the total cost. I sold this on eBay and I understand now why some people don't use the USPS services to ship items. Thank you for your help in this matter.

On 9/20/2010, I went and send a package to Landenberg, PA it was suppose to arrive 3-5 days. I mailed 1 amplifier and 2 receiver, well, they took the box and I paid for insurance, so I paid 53.80 and purchased an insurance for 300 dollars. Well, the box got to PA and when the receiver opened the box the items inside was damage and broken including the box was in bad shape when it was delivered.
I contacted UPS customer service and submitted a claim and they informed me that they was going to pick it up well after me calling numerous time they finally picked it up because they say they make 3 attempts with out informing you when they will pick up the box.
I was so amazed of the things I would hear from them and they promise to keep me posted and it never happens. I didn't hear from them. When I called for the 3rd time, they informed me that my claim was denied because I packed it incorrectly. That's why it was damaged. I told them first that item was removed from the box and the box arrived damaged and how do you know, if I packed it or not. When it was delivered, it was already damaged and If it didn't why would you allow it in the store to ship in the first place.
She said, "Well, all I could do is to submit the claim again and you want to fight our decision." Well, I did. I never haven't gotten a call yet. I contact them and customer service is unable to give me any information that is useful. Oh! but I was told that the insurance that you purchase is for lost items not damage. Wow! I was just amazed.
I complained to the better business bureau but they don't answer. So they are horrible. I will be taking them to small civil court. Oh they also called me to pick up the stuff that the receiver never claimed it. I told him what he did but you guys picked it up because it was damaged. He said, "Oh well, call customer service."
Wow you go to UPS thinking your are using a well known company that will treat your stuff with care and the company will be responsible but big mistake. Huge. I will not use them again and they really need there employers including manager how to treat treat customer and to follow what they offer. For me they do false advertisement.

In the last two weeks, I have mailed out two priority mail packages at different times from Vero Beach, FL 32962 to Dedham, MA 02026 and both packages arrive destroyed. One package had a handmade picture album and the packaged had been crushed, the binding of the book broken. The second package I put extra tape on the priority box and that one arrived open on both ends and held together with a rubber band. Now I am paying top dollar to have these packages shipped and they are trashed. No wonder the post office is losing business. I have sent packages by general delivery and they arrive intact. I spent the extra money and what happens, my packages are trash. I want to thank the post office for their top notch service, not! In this economy, my money is important to me, maybe not to the post office.

I order a magazine called, "The Catholic Answer" which covers Catholic Politics and teachings. This particular issue contained an article regarding Capital punishment. San Quentin State Prison is the designated prison for capital punishment in the state of California and my property was not (I believe) coincidentally damaged beyond reading by the USPS at the San Quentin Post Office. This is completely unacceptable and those responsible need to be removed from their duties at the San Quentin Post Office.

I mailed a package on August 2nd from Mattoon, Illinois (priority mail). It was marked fragile. It wasn't delivered until August 9 and the box was banged up and the contents were ruined. It was even molded and had bugs in it. I was told when I mailed it priority mail that it should get there by August 3rd. It was a week getting there and it was, as I said, ruined when it got there. This package cost me $23.05 to send it priority mail and it was a week getting there. I feel the post office owes me $23.05 for my package and the condition it was in when it arrived one week after I sent it. Thank you for your consideration.

A package was sent by ground on June 16, 2010 to Ohio and arrived on August 1st. Did not think insurance was necessary (my mistake). Package arrived open and with a note from Pittsburgh post office, stating: items maybe missing from contents. The rest of the items were clothing and a pair of shoes full of grease and torn kids t-shirts that didn't belong to my package. I think this was unnecessary disgusting act from one employee that have no kind of responsibility and respect for his job and customers. I feel that my family was violated.

I mailed my personal items from Fort Sill, Oklahoma to Stone Mountain Georgia 30083 and when I received some of my boxes, they were labeled with received at Atlanta Mail Distribution Damaged. I checked my boxes and Military and Personal items were missing. My military Uniforms were missing and boots and equipment and civilian clothing and Timberland boots were not there. There was a letter in the inside stating that I must contact my Consumer Affairs Office. My uniforms cost a lot and my personal items cannot be replaced. Those boxes were taped tight and how can they be received damaged?

I received a destroyed envelope enclosed in a US Postal Service envelope! The original envelope was empty. The sender's address was torn off of the envelope and the contents were gone! There's no way for me to track who sent the envelope. The label with my name and address was totally intact. This was obviously something that the sender did not want opened. They put a piece of packing tape across the back and the postage was $1.39, so it was more than just a letter.

I received my Scientific American magazine today. The front cover was all bent and ripped and a few of the following pages were bent in and crumpled. Now, I don't have a nice magazine to keep in my collection.

A relative recently sent five packages with breakable items in them. Out of the five packages only two boxes had no damage (and those two were priority mail flat rate boxes). The three brown boxes had nothing but broken pieces of glass, porcelain, etc. in them. They seemed to be packaged well. They even had 'fragile' all over them. I think because insurance was not purchased they didn't care and threw them around. If it had only been minor damage I wouldn't have thought anything about it. It was ridiculous just how much damage there was. I'm mainly upset because these were plates, etc, of relatives that had passed away last year. That's what upsets me the most. If these people handling packages don't care about doing their jobs right, get rid of them!

We use double window envelopes to mail out checks to vendors. The return address is the address on the check which shows through the upper window. Recently, I received a notice from the Atlanta Mail Recovery Center that a envelope I had mailed out was undeliverable or damaged and was therefore destroyed. Along with the letter was a perfectly preserved photocopy of the undamaged check.
Since the check was obviously not damaged and the return address was on the check, I called my local post office to ask why the check was not simply returned to me. I was told that the USPS policy is to destroy any damaged envelope and its contents. Does anyone have any sense at USPS? What is the purpose of a return address if not to return it to the sender if there is a problem?

I have received three broken packages from the Postal Service, the first, a TV and game console, the second, a package with CD's inside, and now the third, a serving dish. How hard is it not to bust every package I get! I'm heartbroken to see my childhood memories in pieces.
My first own purchase TV, that I had to leave at home simply because I couldn't fit it in the vehicle when I moved. I spent a thousand dollars of real money on it, that as a 15-16 year old, struggled to earn. My grams sent me several items I left behind, the only breakable ones are broken and now useless. Now, a serving dish that has been through hell, move after move, is in my living room in pieces. I am in tears. I'm heart broken to be tossing another piece in the dumpster because they trashed it. I can't even write how angry I am at them for breaking these things.
Fragile is all over every box, it's wrapped with the greatest care, and the first box had an obvious boot outline on it. I'm not allowing anyone else to mail anything to me. They have responded to my complaints with a "You should have purchased insurance". No, I should not have to beg people to add extra services to get a non-broken package. I am done saying please, thank you, and have a nice day. I am at that point of demanding what I want. I cannot afford to replace even one item they have broken. It's over $1,500 in damaged items, in 6 months.

On March 27 of this year, I mailed two boxes of books to my daughter in Oregon. They both weighted approximately 51 pounds and were sent Media Rate. I sent them from the Sunshine Shipping and Gifts at Naples, FL. On April 5, both boxes arrived at my daughters. One box was in perfect condition and the other was also in perfect condition except for a small puncture on the bottom. However, this box was empty, except for a baby blanket, which was not something I had sent: A book about Boston, again, not something I sent and some brochures for New Mexico and not something I sent. This box had been sliced opened, the contents emptied and garbage put back in. I have spent much time talking with people from the shipping place where I sent it to the main post office here and also two separate calls I made to complain.
When I first called the shipping station, I was treated badly, hung up on and the person, whose name was Erica, would not pick up the phone again, but just let it ring knowing I was trying to re-call her. I then filed a complaint on the phone with someone who was sympathetic, but not helpful. I received a call from someone named Don, I think, who merely said "checked the backroom here and your books are not here". I asked him what backroom and he said the main post office. He could not be bothered either. I called to complain again and was given another case number by someone named Greg. Again, Don called me and said the books were nowhere to be found.
I went to the main post office three Saturdays ago and was told I had to speak with someone named Anita. I asked if they would go get her for me and they said no, I had to wait until she walked by. Well 45 minutes later, she had still not walked by so I asked someone else, Deborah **, who actually took me out back and listened to my whole story. She then had Anita come in and I told the story again. They were both very nice, but could not really help me but to give me this address. In this box was a complete set of Time Life books on the American Indians, some still in their original shrink wrap. There were also many books on the Civil War and some reading books written by Beverly Lewis, along with a couple of miscellaneous other books.
If mail had been taken out of my box here at home, it would have been a federal offense. I would like these books returned to me or sent to my daughter. If this is not possible, I would like to know how to press charges for the theft of this property inside the postal system. My daughter still has the box and the items that were in them and she has even taken it to her post office to show them that the books did not fall out but were deliberately opened and emptied out but like everyone else, they did not care either.

They delivered a damaged package. I wrote an email via a form on their website. No response. A few weeks later, I wrote another in the same fashion. No response. What kind of message does that send to me as a customer? Pretty much I feel like I don't mean anything to them as a customer so I will never send any package via the USPS ever!

I sent this dear lady this item that she won on eBay. The item completely smashed and looked "intentional!" I cannot believe that the postal worker delivered this in this condition! The lady that received it sent it back to me in the exact way it was delivered to her! She never asked for her money back! She just wanted to show me what poor condition in which the item was delivered to her. It was a sentimental item and I never had the heart to open the box (that she had sent the item back to me in).
I finally did today (after almost two years!) and I am shocked that the United States Postal Service would even leave an item this destroyed! It looks deliberate to me like someone stomped on it! Shame on Priority Mail! I have pictures, if you would care to see them. I wonder if any of the other delivery services would operate this way. There is even a couple of small generic notes under the plastic wrapping saying, "They do the very best at trying to deliver all items with care!" I just wanted to make a complaint about this!

In December of 2008, I sent a watch to Switzerland, tracking #CP170902490US. I emailed the receiver of the watch. He never received it, but was notified, from the Swiss, it was damaged. He emailed me back. I called the Postal service in January. They agreed it was damaged through tracking and assured me I would need to file a claim. This is now March, not only have I not received a claim form but now I must go through the process all over again. I was told, today, the claim was dated and had to call back in 4 hours so she could look it up.
Today, March 17th, I spent almost a day on the phone trying to collect my money from the postal company. That was only the beginning. First, they must sent me a new form, which according to the postal service, may take another 5 days to receive. Then I must fill it out and send it to St. Louis which could take another 5 days to process. Then they review it and will pay the claim. Everyone I spoke to admits the item was damaged. Why must I go through this going on almost 5 months when the postal service has a tracking # and knows the item is damaged?
I do not have the item, I do not have the money, I do not know when I'll recover my insurance money which I paid for in the event of this problem. I am beyond myself with the incompetence of our government service, not for free either. I may be delayed in getting the money. Sometimes, you can expect delay but outright stupidity of federal employees who say they will do something and you never hear from again. When you hang up you are totally forgotten.
This resolved me of two things: 1) I will never use the US Postal Service to mail an item again. 2) This has also convinced me that the government has no business running our healthcare. Our government should strictly defend its people and get the ** out of every business they are in. I was in the Marine Corps 4 years. I love my country but this incident truly makes me hate government-run businesses. Does FedEx or UPS handle their people the same way? I don't think so, they can fire their help, they want customers!

Sent out W2s at on 1/29/10. Just received a piece of one back today (2/24/10) that is absolutely shredded. It's so badly damaged I can't even tell whom I need to replace it for. Someone is not getting the required documentation to file their taxes because I can't tell anymore whom it belongs to.

I recently purchased two professional photos of a sporting event we attended for my son's birthday. We live too close to the post office to receive home delivery, therefore, we have a post office box. The PO Box is approximately 4x6. One of the photos is 9x12. These photos were sent in a cardboard mailer clearly labeled photos enclosed. The post office employee bent this mailer in half and stuffed it into our box. In the past, whenever something arrived that was too large to fit in our box, we either received a notice to pick up at the counter or another larger set of PO Boxes are used. While home delivery is free, we are paying for our PO Box and "service." The photos were $56.81 including $7.95 for shipping and mishandling. Both photos are bent and creased.

I went to mail a shoe box package that was clearly marked "fragile this side up." The woman dropped it in the bin and said that she didn't know it was not empty. She was not sincere in her apologizes and now, everything in there is probably broken. I was sending it to my grandson in Florida. She didn't care at all. The package made a loud sound when it dropped. This post office is always very rude they should be written up. I find this completely appalling. I asked her why didn't she wait until I was done with another piece of mail and looked before she dropped it. She didn't answer me. I want the post office written up from the post master.

13080950000018938656 Filed this claim. Insured a crystal music box that I purchased for my Mom's Birthday for 200 dollars. Box was shattered and shipping parcel was soaking wet and other item was ruined. I filed this claim and they are requesting a receipt. The lady at the post office told me I didn't need to keep the receipt if I insured the item. There was an apology from the postal carrier inside of the box. I want my money now!

So I was expecting a parcel/package from a close family friend from whom I purchased some awesome hand-made jewelery (not really expensive stuff, totally not worth stealing). She lives in MN, so she decided to send it USPS, since neither of us had ever had a problem shipping or receiving from them before and it was cheaper than sending UPS or FedEx. She told me she put the contents in a small white hard box, placed them in a manila parcel envelope, and completely sealed the flap and even added tons of tape.
When I check my mailbox, my brain didn't comprehend what that package was at first. The manila envelope was completely ripped in half. Clearly, someone had ripped it open to steal the contents out. You could still see the square indention from the box. What is the most ridiculous thing is that whoever tampered with it decided to replace my box of jewelry with 2 CDs for the 2006 surveys for N. Carolina Department of Transportation, as if I wouldn't notice.
I was dumbfounded. I thought maybe it was mail sent to the wrong box at first, which happens. But I saw my friend's handwriting and her address, and I became so upset! It had a big red sticker saying the contents were fragile, so if it had been damaged on its trip, obviously, no one paid attention to that big red sticker! What makes me the most upset is that how the mail carriers or workers at the post office can see something like this and still decide to deliver it without a second glance?!
All they do is stick a little sticker claiming it was received by them unsealed. My friend's tape was still there, unharmed! It was not unsealed; it was ripped open! So according to them, somewhere between MN and CA, the envelope magically ripped in half (I'm talking completely gouged open), and my contents fell out and were replaced magically by 2 CDs that somehow made it the rest of the way? Ridiculous! Are there no honest people these days?

As I checked my mail on January 28th 2010, I noticed that I had received two W2's from a company I used to work for. It looked like they had been cut open with a scissor (five long cuts on each envelope). My social security and other sensitive information is on my tax statements. I am worried about identity theft. What can I do?

Today, my birthday, the postman buzzed me down from my apartment to collect a couple of packages that wouldn't fit in the mailbox. He also handed me a pile of mail. I went back to my apartment and sorted through the mail for expected birthday cards, only to discover a USPS envelope containing an empty and deliberately torn envelope from my parents, addressed to me. As reported by my father, at the time it was dropped in the mail, it contained a singing birthday card and a personal check, all taped securely in the envelope.
The following message was printed on the back of the postal envelope, with my own thoughts inserted in [ ]: "We Care US Postal Service, Dear Valued Postal Customer: I want to extend my sincere apology as your Postmaster for the enclosed document that was inadvertently damaged [completely intentionally!] in handling by your Postal Service.
"We are aware how important your mail is to you. With that in mind, we are forwarding it to you in an expeditious [and stripped of value] fashion. The United Stated Postal Service [mis]handles over 202 billion pieces of mail each year. While each employee makes concerted effort to [steal, rip off, or carelessly destroy] process, without damage, each piece of mail, an occasional [frequent] mishap does happen. We are constantly working to improve our processing methods so that these incidents will be eliminated [here's a tip, don't hire convicts]. You can help us greatly in our efforts if you will continue to properly prepare and address each letter or parcel that you enter into the mailstream [as was done with his particular piece and look how it ended up]. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding [nope, not from me] and sincerely regret the inconvenience that you have experienced. Your Postmaster"
My parents will likely incur a cancelled check fee of approximately $25.

I mailed a package to Isiolo, Kenya taped and sealed by me in a special way, known only to me. And when it arrived, received and opened, the items had been stolen out of the package. The package tape job had been cut. The package was opened and the items were stolen out of the package. It was then re-taped to make it look like the package was not tampered with. That tells me that someone within the post office system stole the items. They are the only ones protected by the post office buildings and rooms where they could have done this without being caught. Or, there could be more than one low life who stole those items.

The largest box with the best of my books disappeared, and I have yet to hear from the "Atlanta Mail Recovery Unit." I suspect someone will pocket the cash for the books stolen during their "auctions." Many of my books had KStrait written on the page edge of them. They were in a box labeled "small 16 3/4 x 12 1/2 x 12 1/2." It was also labeled "pratt" and "recyclable." There were several expensive science, math, and engineering books I had hoped to use to prepare for an exam I must take in the spring. Instead, I have a pile of books I have never seen before to remind me how foolish I was to think that USPS was safe and responsible.
I mailed the Parcel Search Request form January 11, 2010 to the Atlanta Mail Recovery Unit. I believe the auctions this center has with stolen books/articles is inappropriate for a government-run agency.

I shipped a package from NH to Winfield, AL and it weighed 8 lbs. When the package arrived in AL, it was empty. How does that happen? Don't drivers clean out their trucks each day? There were Christmas presents in that box that didn't get delivered.

I am a college student and often order my textbooks and have them mailed to me. These books are not cheap, often in excess of $100. Today I checked my mail to find yet another one of my textbooks crammed into it. This is not the first time my mail person has done this. Back in August, they did the same thing with another one of my textbooks. Shortly before that, they folded my husband's diploma that clearly stated 'Do Not Bend' on the envelope and proceeded to put that in the mailbox as well. Now, my mailbox is approximately 4" x 5" and the size of the package my books come in is 10" x 15".
After the first textbook was put in the mailbox and damaged, I called the USPS and complained. I called again today and made another complaint. We have lived here for nearly 10 years and never had a problem until August. The supervisors I have spoken with don't seem too concerned yet claim they will speak to the delivery person. They also said this after my first phone call and yet it still happened again. I have two more books coming this week and am tired of the mishandling of my mail by the delivery person. Is there anything I can do? Should I wait at the mailbox and confront the person myself? This should not be tolerated. I can't believe they are actually allowed to handle the mail like this without any consequences!

I received a cut envelope in a postal bag saying sorry to the damaged envelope. I later found out from my brother that he sent a yearly letter, Christmas card and lotto tickets, none of which was included. This bag arrived at the Hesperia branch already damaged, post marked from the city of Industry, CA. I had a similar experience mailing my mother a rosary in padded envelope. I mailed from Hesperia, CA post office. She received a damaged and opened envelope with no rosary. The problem is not from Hesperia but where the mail is routed. This problem caused by a fed employee makes me very uncomfortable.

My medications that i get from Medco were not delivered on time and the package was soaking wet. The package contained 3 months worth of medication & fortunately the meds were sealed and had no damage but when my husband called the post office, he was told that it was considered junk mail.... After calling Medco, they were not aware that presorted mail was considered junk mail... Time sensative contents was on the package. So the Post Office needs to do better on this situation.... My meds were ok but what if it had not been.. $250.00 worth of meds could have been ruined!

The Valet service at Community Hospital North mailed me the key fob to my car on December 22nd. The postage was $1.39 so I know it was in the envelope when the postage was put on it (the postage was on a label from a machine). When the envelope arrived at my home, there was a note inside but the key fob was missing. There was a good size slit and tear at the bottom corner of the envelope, so it either worked its way out of the envelope as it traveled from there to here, or someone removed it. Someone may now have my address and the key fob to my car. Otherwise, I assume it has made its way to a lost and found somewhere.

Purchased an autographed guitar from Hard Rock Stage Productions at the end of August, 2009, which was appropriately insured. I received it on September 3, 2009 but it was very damaged. I immediately contacted the seller and reported that it had arrived damaged. The seller was advised to file an international claim on my behalf, which she did (Ashley).
On November 6, 2009 I received a questionnaire from the post office asking what the article was, where was the damage, could it be repaired etc. which I filled out and mailed back that day. I included a picture of the damage and a copy of the quotation to repair it. I also made a point of mentioning that this was purchased as a christmas gift for my husband, and that I would appreciate being able to have it repaired in a timely fashion. After many phone calls, I was referred to the "Accounting Help Desk" in St. Louis, MO and spoke to David. He advised that the 'claims department' had the paperwork, but it could take up to sixty days for a decision to be made. I told him that I had supplied everything and more, so the claim would be handled efficiently and in a timely fashion.
This process has been going on since early September, it is now December 8, and no end in sight. This was a very expensive guitar, autographed by BB King, all I am asking is for this process to be moved along. I think three months is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a resolution. The guitar was insured for more than it cost me, I have proven that it was damaged and have provided a quote for the repair. Is there any way someone could contact these people on my behalf and urge them to make a decision asap?? I'd like to be able to have the guitar fixed before christmas, but I am obviously running out of time. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer me.

I have filed Post Office insurance claim for a package that was ruined in transit (got wet) and they are refusing to pay the claim saying it was poor packaging. The packing is not the issue. THe items were not crushed. The items were sterling silver and got wet and tarnished and are of no value now. The items were packaged in a USPS padded envelope with the help of the Post Office employee. I placed insurance on the package in the event it arrived damaged and now they will not pay. i have filed an appeal and it was denied so now the Post Office tell me this is my only recouse.

am I not insured for what I paid for?
I also told them I am sick and I just had another cancer operation the 24th of this month, which is why I was mailing my heirloms to my daughters, get it? As of this time I have not heard a word from anyone about my claim. And I mailed the package in September I think. I don't use UPS or FED-X I use the US Post Office for my packages. I can't believe I am being trated like this by The United States Post office...Next step is my daughters want to post this communication to you and more on Facebook/Twitter...whatever I don't know about these spots but mu Girls sure do.

I shipped a used digital piano via UPS which was in a custom designed and built hard shell case made specifically for concert tours. It was the same case that the item was originally shipped to me via UPS and arrived undamaged. On top of that, I wrapped this case in several layers of packing tape to prevent accidental opening of the case.
It arrived at its destination damaged beyond repair. I filed a complaint seeking a refund due to damages with UPS. They picked the item up and examined it and informed me that the damage was due to "insufficient packaging" and noted that the case was not damaged.
Well, the item came back and the case was obviously and significantly damaged. But beyond hiring a lawyer, it appears I have no recourse with UPS. I will never ship anything with this company again as long as I live. I sold the piano for $380. The shipping was nearly $200. So now I am out at least a total of $580.

The majority of the time my mail is delivered crumpled, bent, and freyed. Occasionally I receive mail that corresponds with my small business (business cards, postcards etc.)which is received crumpled. I am unable to use my advertisements due to the condition it is received in.

My son received a package from his grandmother ..homemade cookies. The package arrived with a whole chewed in it and taped over by the post office..the contents had been chewed.. There was a sticker on it that said it had been received "unsealed"...which is ludicrous. This is the second time that we've received a package chewed by some animal prior to making it to our address.
I called the post office and the employees were their usual RUDE selves..could care less and accept no responsibility. IT's no wonder the post office is losing money and transitioning to 5 days a week.
We'll use FED EX or UPS exclusively from now on..eventually all of those incompetent workers will be out of jobs as they deserve to be because this kind of service will make using the post office a thing of the past....just the principal of the thing and beyond annoying how the us post office has handled it. I work in DC so am considering pursuing it with the committee that has jurisdiction over the us post office...just as an example of what is wrong with this government run organization.

I bought a jacket off of ebay...I was so excited to recieve it, I used to have one just like it when I was younger, and I had actually won the auction, which I hardly ever do. It took a lot longer to receive the jacket than other packages that I had received in the past and when I finally got the box, there was a note inside from the atlanta usps apologizing for the inconvenience of having a damaged package. There was no jacket inside, only 5 rotten looking placemats that I did not buy. Someone inside the usps warehouse lifted my jacket. How else does a heavy jacket get out of a taped box? On top of that, try getting ahold of someone to take care of your mistake...no one at usps in atlanta has even SEEN my jacket...it just disappeared like a ghost. How does that happen? The seller? yeah, he could scam 65 bucks, but why would he?

#1 why didn't the woman at the desk reject the package and have me wrap it properly to ensure safe delivery?Isn't that her job?
#2 again, she heard me say I had the gift card for $25 why didn't she inform me of the limited amount and make me pay more money for I would not get if there was a problem.(I know I cannot blame anyone particular who might have taken it, but my gut was it was her.)
I filled out the form and took it to the same office as I had mailed it after work that day 9/1 5:15 or so. I explained to the clerk at the desk that I would like to file the claim. She had no idea what I was talking about. She got the "supervisor" who said that they don't take those forms at that office(not indicated on USPO website) and I had to take it to the Mt Clemens office. I told her I can't take it all the way there. She was quite rude and indicated she'll "mail it" but it's gonna take that much longer, etc. She started talking to the other clerk(the one that initially excepted my package) like I was stupid or something and the post office never looses anything(one week after that man was accused of having never delivered mail and left it in his car and house and such).
She never apologized for the loss.Only that she's gonna mail my form just like I should be dong. She didn't act much like a supervisor. It didn't give me much confidence in the postal service. She also gave me the impression that my claim went in the circular file(trash). When I called today on my claim the women on the phone said it has been three weeks and sometimes takes up to 4 weeks. I have a feeling that it was not handled but a government employee as it should have. As I have found out everything about my incident has been handled.

When I put them in the drop box they crashed to the floor, so loud that two different individuals in the post office exclaimed "What was that???" etc. It sounded like the packages hit solid concrete. I left a little worried that the two items, although packaged with bubble wrap, foam etc.fell so hard that they may have broken. After I left I kept thinking about them arriving at their destination in unusable condition. I went back to the Post Office and asked to speak to someone.
After waiting for quite a while for "Mercy" to end a phone conversation and come and wait on me, I told her what had happened. I told her it sounded like the packages fell right onto concrete. She said "Well they did! Our floors are concrete!" I was informed that I had to fill out two forms of information for them to give me back my items to check and see if they were alright. I filled out the forms which took a considerable amount of time and then waited quite awhile for someone to come and help me. After waiting still more for them to recover the packages from the drop box, I was informed that if I didn't mail them "as is" I would forfeit my postage. [Almost $19.00 for the two of them] I told her I needed to check them and see if they were alright. "Well, you didn't buy insurance!" Mercy claimed and also "You didn't package them well!"[Although I did, it was rude for her to say and impossible for her to know how I packaged them anyway!]
I was completely disgusted. I asked her what was to prevent them [the Post Office] to put some foam or bubble wrap or something on the concrete floor at the bottom of the drop box so the packages wouldn't hit the floor with such impact. "Well we send them down the chute that way" was all she could reply. I pointed out to her that sending something down a chute at an angle was quite different than dropping something straight down onto concrete! I ended up mailing the packages "as is" rather than to forfeit what I had already paid.Needless to say I left without any feeling of customer service, rude and indifferent behaviour on the part of the postal employee and anger that, just because you don't insure your packages [ or even if you did!] you cannot be reassured that any care at all is being taken to preserve your possessions and those of the recipients.

I had antenna shipped from GA in a stout cardboard tube. It arrived without most of the contents and the end of the tube damaged and open. After negotiating USPS's inane phone tree for 15 min, I finally was able to talk to a live person who told me to go to my PO and file a claim form. After a 15 min drive and 15 min wait in line, I am told that that particular office doesn't do claims and to go downtown. I am worried that the claims office will be closed and I think to call ahead, but there is no way to get a post office branch number to find out any information (go ahead and try it if you don't believe this is true).
So I drive another 20 min, pay to park to to the claims desk only to find that person that deals with claims is still at lunch at 1:50pm. Then I am told that because the package was not insured the only thing I can do is to pay to ship the remainder of the package to MN and maybe in a month or so, if they find the missing items, they will send them to me. If they don't find them, they will not respond in anyway.
So it looks like I paid $20 to have the antenna shipped to me, paid to park, wasted over an hour of time and now they want me to give them another $11 to ship the tube to some warehouse in MN in the hopes that maybe some USPS employee will take time away from his extended lunch break to actuall look through a mountain of stuff, find my particular item and send it to me?
Right. I am going to insist on UPS or Fedex for all future shipments and suggest you do the same. Huge waste of time. Mental distress that any company can have such total disregard for their customers time and parcels. $150 lost.

Ordered a perishable product online from Traverse City Michigan. The product was to be shipped from Traverse City to Wayne Michigan. Product was shipped on 08/10/09 and is still not here. USPS misshipped it to Ann Arbor and is advising me that it will now take 2 more days to arrive. Ann Arbor is 30 minutes from my home, why is it going to take 2 days to ship 30 minutes away? I have been advised by the USPS that too bad-it will get here when it gets here. They dont guarentee when it will arrive and thats what I get for shipping economically. So why are my tax dollars still paying them? This is not the first problem i've had with the postal service and they do not even make an effort to resolve complaints. what can I do? What can be done to ensure that the USPS either gets shut down completely (they dont care about our mail and half of us dont even get our mail anyways)or they start accepting responsibilty and working with paying customers to resolve their mistakes? I dont think anyone should have to pay for this service and I want to know what I can do about it.

I have recently earned a doctorate degree. My diploma was mailed from the university via USPS. A large carboard envelope clearly marked "DIPLOMA DO NOT BEND" was shoved into a mail box 1/2 the envelop's size. Our front door is not 15 steps away from the mail box. The diploma was bent and creased - unsuitable for framing - clearly damaged. I am whole-heartedly disappointed in such poor service.

I had an insured package sent to Florida on 1/2/09. This was a vanity that was being returned to the seller. It arrived damaged. My local post office told me that an insurance claim had to be filed with the damaged item. It was taken to the Palmetto Lakes Post Office from the receiver's warehouse sometime around the end of January, beginning of February.
After months of not hear anything regarding the claim I contacted the main processing of the post office for insurance claims. They had no record of the claim and said I had to contract the office where the claim was filed. I contacted the seller for the name of the post office. They had to contact their warehouse.
By the time they got back to me it was early May. I spoke with someone there who took all my information and promised to call me back. When they did not I faxed a letter and the insurance information on 5/27/2009. Still no response. I called again and was told Al was in charge of insurance claims so I faxed the information again. After this I began taking notes of my contact with the office:
6/12 Spoke with LeAnne who said it was being processed and would call me on 6/15
6/15 - no call
6/24 Spoke with Francine who said she had someone working on it.
6/29 - Spoke with LeAnne who said she was processing it
7/15 - Spoke with LeAnne who said a letter is on the way.
7/27? - Spoke with the main processing center who said the claim has yet to be filed.
7/29 9:50AM Spoke with Francine who said LeAnne started work at 10 and she would have her call me as soon as she got in.
7/29 3:30PM I called LeAnne. She said my claim was not submitted yet because she did not have approval yet and was waiting for a call back. Also that I could not get the full price back because it was only slightly damaged.
When I relayed my story to the main processing center they suggested I contact Consumer Affairs. Hope you can help. I have wasted a lot of time trying to resolve this issue. I no longer have the $605 that I paid for the item (though it was only insured for $500). I no longer have the vanity - even though it's damaged. And I no longer have any patience! Please help.

Re: Insurance Claim #: VH 444 175 960 US
To Whom It May Concern:
I had a package mailed on 1/2/09 that was received damaged. My post office said a claim could not be filed without bringing the object into the post office and that the recipient needed to file the claim. I was told that the item was brought to your post office sometime near the end of January and that I was named as the payment assignee. After months without receiving any information, I spoke with the main processing center for claims and they said that they have no record of the claim and that I had to contact the post office where the claim was filed. I called your post office 2 weeks ago and someone took my information including my phone number and said they would get back to me. I have yet to hear anything.
Im faxing the information that I have on the claim and I'd like to know the status of it.
Please contact me with the status or if you need any other information.
Sincerely,
Kenneth Blahut

I sent an item with tracking and insurance. The item arrived at the destination but is damaged. I cannot have items become damaged in transit as it causes me to have to refund the money that the customer paid for the product. When this happens, I loose a sale and often get bad feedback on the systems that I use to sell product. This stops sales. Also, I loose the profit for the package that I've sent via USPS.

I got my letter recently and i was expecting some handmade goods my friend sent me. you may not think its enough but it really meant alot to me. i got the letter in a small plastic baggy saying that "we are sorry for your inconvenience." they managed to give me the papers that were INSIDE the letter but not the contents that had been IN the letter. It made me very mad because i had been awaiting this letter for 2 weeks and i just found out that i had gotten the letter in a condition which appeared like someone had opened it down the middle as if some one were to read what was inside.

Today I received MY envelope that I sent to back, in my mailbox marked "RETURED WITHOUT CONTENTS". It was clearly damaged by the post office the envelope is ripped on the side and opened and the contents are not in there, I went to the post office and they just looked at my blank faces & simply stating that won't issue a refund to me. The package had been secured with packing tape as always and it was one of those bubble wrapped evelopes so for it to tear open makes no sense to me. Plus I had it to be signed for, so why they put it in my mailbox instead of handing it to me, I have no idea..

I have lodged several complaints about our mail carrier over the last 14 months. On June 26, 2009, I called 1-800-ASK-USPS to lodge another complaint. The mail carrier dropped my package out of her vehicle window. This package contained fertile chicken eggs. Since the person who sent it to me was told he could not put insurance on it, I was told that there was nothing I could do if there was a problem with the package. As of today, July 6, 2009, none of the eggs developed chicks.
I was supposed to receive another package of fertile chicken eggs on July 3, 2009. Instead, I got a slip of paper in my mailbox that said I had a package at the post office. I called and told them that I had no way of coming to get it and that if the package was left until Monday, the eggs would be no good. The postmaster from Medicine Lodge called me later in the day and basically told me that my only option was to find a way to go get the package.
I don't see why I should be out the money on the eggs, even though I did not have insurance on them. No one ever called me or sent me a note telling me that they were no longer going to deliver packages to my mailbox to "avoid any more problems" with the package deliveries. Shouldn't I have been told that they were no longer going to deliver packages to my mailbox? If I had known they were not going to, I would have asked the sender to deliver through UPS or FedEx. So now what do I do? Because of the lack of professionalism on the post office's part, I have just lost almost $40.00 on chicken eggs.

I collect antique postcards and other items from Florida. I make sure everyone puts on the envelop "do not bend". That must be a beacon for the postal employees who are half wits. I continually go to my postbox, which is about 6 x 8 inches and find my 8 x 12 in flat packages shoved in there with "do not bend" on the envelop. I have complained to the Orlando post office, but they are full of excuses and promises that never hold up. There is no accountability. They are all liars and fools. I have heard the post office may be shut down over time. Well good riddance. They are worthless now. I hope they rot in hell for the sins they commit daily with the consumers.

Can you believe it? You pay for a service and they are supposed to do their job. But they don't. My box arrived at its destination empty, with a note 'item damaged'. The box was obviously tampered with and re-taped. Maybe UPS is better. I lost $45.00 worth of merchandise plus $11.50 shipping. I paid them $11 to destroy my item.

The Post Office damaged my package and returned it to me stamped with "received without contents." It was clearly damaged by the Post Office; the package was crushed and opened, and the contents probably fell out at the Post Office. The package had been secured with packing tape as always. This seal had been cut? No, the package was not insured, but the Post Office won't refund my postage or address the damaged they caused. They simply have stated that there were no contents enclosed and can't or won't issue a refund to me. The content value was $164 plus $7.69 for shipping.

I have a Postal Deliverer who either considers themselves a great practical joker or just doesn't care too much for their job. Every day I get mail, my mailbox is left open. I have gone to my local post office and personally asked for this to stop. I have left little notes taped to the porch next to my mailbox asking politely for the mailbox lid to be closed. Neither action has worked in the slightest.
I have a mailbox that opens from the top, and in Michigan, the weather is known to change rapidly. There have been days that my mail has been ruined because the lid was left open allowing rain to pour into the box. I don't know what else to do about this problem. I'm going to have to buy a new mailbox soon if she (my delivery person) continues doing this because it is causing the hinges on my mailbox to rust.

My daughter is currently working in Shakopee as a summer student. She forwarded her keys to her apartment and post office for me to check her mail as I would be going to Arkansas. The letter arrived to me in Georgia empty, torn up and taped up with nothing in it. No statement from postmaster stating mail was damaged or anything, just empty. No one knows where the keys are and my daughter is out of her dorm. When she returns, keys will cost $100 each for on campus dorm and post office key for ASU campus.
As I have read some of the complaints from others around America concerning the USPS, it's time to do something about it, not just talk about it because it appears nothing is being done. So the people are going to have to take matters into their own hands. Either get your bills sent to you electronically online or start using FedEx or UPS. In this economy, somebody might want to start a business around the mail handling or delivery of mail for that matter. It's time to either boycott the postal service or protest to have them shut down. This is a shame that this kind of attitude and theft from the USPS is unacceptable. Maybe if we put them out of a job, they will see how the hell it feels. Enough talk. Contact your Congressman or representative and have them to hold USPS post masters' feet to the fire and make them accountable. Even if you have an item insured based on these comments, you're still basically giving your money away for free and still have to pay out of pocket for damages. This is a scam, if ever I seen it. Furthermore, it's time for the American people to say enough is enough. We should also be able to sue for damages.

My personal and business mail is being tampered with and Mr. ** claiming to be the head manager over the downtown post office states there is nothing he or the post office can do about my mail being pre-opened before delivery and about the refusal of delivery after I complained about it. I told him I could get statements from Al Power, Alagasco, Geico and others on their mail sent to me which I never received. I have a right to unopened mail, to the delivery of all mail sent to me and the respectful treatment of those rights when dealing with the postal service. The opened mail was from my college and would have contained $5,500 check for student loans but I did not take the summer semester. This is the third time my college mail has arrived opened for a new semester, when does it become safe again? Hackers at the public library are also causing identity theft for its users. I was compromised at the end of my semester this year too.

I had a package delivered from Sea Corals and it arrived damaged. I contacted Canada Post and they told me I had to contact USPS. I contacted them and they told me to have the company file a claim. Four months later, I received some paperwork to fill in. I filled in the forms and mailed them out two days later. I contacted Sea Corals and they called USPS. Apparently, USPS sent out a form for them to fill out. They never received the form so I had them contact USPS again and again. The fourth time they apparently send out the form, it arrived. The form was received by USPS on May 18, 2006. I received the package on November 2008. It has been seven months and the problem still hasn't been resolved. I can not believe that USPS mail does not arrived three times. How can it get lost so many times? Is USPS that bad or did they not send out the forms the first three times?

I mailed wedding invitations on 5/26/09 which contained, invitation, response card, response envelope, and hotel information. On 5/27/09, I received 5 empty response envelopes in the mail. They were bundled with a rubber band and attached was a sticker stating that they were delivered with no contents. My local post office, where I mailed the invitations, directed me to call the Madison Heights postal office.
I was told by two people that there was nothing that they could do. The envelopes were either destroyed or the contents fell out. I asked how they could now assist me...nothing. I suggested that I could write a letter to all my guests explaining the problem and mail the letter at no cost to me. Complaint Department stated that they could not do this. I do not know which 5 people on my list will not get an invition unless I contact all of them. I am very upset that the post office not only ruined some of my wedding invitations, but am more upset over their attitude. They could have cared less. I never even received an apology. Rather, I was met with arrogance and rudeness!

on 5/19/09 i send a package from usps mansfield.tx to garden grove.ca and i receive on 5/27/09 about 4pm and i realizes i missed about 3/4 of the items because the package were so light.

I shipped a cell phone priority mail in a usps flat rate box. the box was completely smashed in shipping and the contents were removed. the receiver got an empty box with usps tape on it that said "received in damaged condition". The buyer did a chargeback on his credit card. I am now out $150. I had no control over the package once it left my possession.

I went back to her on May 4th put the box on the counter and went to check my mail. There was a slip for me to pay my box for either six months or a year. We started talking about how the prices are going up, post office in Monticello cut ther hours, food pantries and just ecomies how hard it is. So I told her I think I will do the year on the box since I was only paying 10.80 for the shipping I thought that was cheap. She said ok printed me up my bill told me to hold on to the receipt I told her have a great day and left. She NEVER mentioned insurance to me. Not once but neither did Shree from Gateway so I still at this point thought I was doing the right thing. Keep in mind I only sent the computer back for the CD door kept opening and shutting. You shut it it would open very anoying.
On May 7th I received a call from Gateway telling me the computer was going to cost $400 for the damage of the screen. I called them back and told there customer service department that I did not send my computer in for the screen, I sent it in for the side CD door kept opening and closing and the computer would not come on. He then told me I would have to speak to the party I shipped it threw because the screen was damaged. He asked me if I insuraced it I told him how I sent it and that I thought it was insurared with the package. He asked if I paid extra not sure what he was talking about he explained to me and then I got very upset telling him noone told me nothing. Not the post office or the rep I spoke to the first time about insurance.
He told me to hold on came back and told me he was going to send me to the second level of complaint and to calm down everything was going to be ok. I explained my story to another gentelmen and he flat out told me I had to go threw the Post Office because they were responsible. I then asked him why his company did not send me the proper tags and packaging to send it back to them and he said the customer is responsible for the shipping to them and there responsible for the shipping to the customer. I told him none of this was explained to me and that maybe they should add that in there blurb when there employees read it from the paper. I told him not to only blame the post office because they never explained the insurance coverage either. He told me that he was sorry and there was nothing he could do that I basically should have known how to send a package. I asked him to please stop saying sorry and explained I spent another $10 on the warrenty coverage and he told me that he was unsure what that was and maybe I should take the computer back to Walmart for them to deal with the damages that he was unsure.
Walmart does not take the computers back after 15days they said it has to go directly to the company. I bought it January 28, 2009. He said he was sorry and he really could not help me I asked if he was done he said yes I told him to send my laptopp back to me and that I would deal with the rest. So here it it May 11, 2009 and noone has contacted me about anything not the post office or Gateway. Not only are they sending me a broken laptopp back but I havnt heard from anyone.

i pay alot of money to get magazine subscriptions. in the last several months there has been a change in drivers to my house that delivers the mail. ive noticed that my subscriptions have been coming folded in half and some are somewhat damaged. this is just not right for anyone that pays alot of money for magazine subscriptions.

In the last 10 months I have received 13 peices of open mail, sliced open, seven of which were personal cards. I believe there is a problem.

Returned home from work on 4/29/09 to see a USPS tote full of our wedding invitations that we had just dropped off at the post office a few days before. Since they had been sitting outside and it's been rainy, I immediately saw that many were soaked.
There was a note that stated we needed an additional 16 cents postage for each invitation. My finacee took a completed invitation to another post office close to her work, where she was told it would be 79 cents a piece (59 cents postage plus a 20 cent surcharge). So we placed 2 Forever stamps on each invitation. So we were stumped as to why the note said it would be more.
To make it more interesting, when we took an extra completed invite to the post office we dropped all in the invitations off at, they told us the postage was only 59 cents! My fiancee asked about the 20 cent surcharge, and we were told that wouldn't be needed since they thought the invites would fit in the sorting machine. So based on the fact that someone thought the postage was wrong, all of our invitations were sitting outside in rainy weather and half were totally ruined.

This is the second time that my mail has been delivered to me open. It is always a check. The first time the were no markings this time it was marked damaged. I believe the post office is opening my mail. These people are very nosy about the affairs of people in this town. I want something done about this

I sent a package of my late husband's pictures and mementos from Texas to Maine. The package finally arrived three weeks later, but it was completely empty. My husband died 4 months ago and I am so saddened to think that someone couldn't have picked up these precious pictures and mementos and placed them back in the box again. I did not insure the package and the local post office said the package came empty and they can't do anything about it. I still have the empty box with message from USPS that they apologize for the damaged? items.
I am to have a memorial service on the 31st of May 2009. I miss my husband so. I have lost him and now I have lost his memories.

On Friday 10th of April, I posted a small package for my daughter. I sent 2 boxes of medicine specially bought in the UK & some chocolates. Today the 13th of April she received the package all items missing exept for 1 box of the medicine. I am really mad as from now on I can't trust the post office. I don't care the choc. went missing but the medicine my daughter needed them. I just want ppl to know be careful fron now on when they send a package to their loved one. Thank you.

Mailed a package to an APO with a Wii Fit and a Rock Band 2 for Playstation 3. When the package arrived the bottom was cut and the Wii Fit was gone. I went and saw Mr. G on December 16th 2008 to file a claim. I called him in February and he told me that he would file it again. March 5 I called him again and then took him copies of all the papers I had so that he could fax them. He told me that he has faxed these papers. The claims department still has no claim on file for me.
I then called the claim department and complained. I had a lady by the name of Sherry call me and told me to fax her all the papers I had. I faxed her copies of the papers on March 20th at 0714am. I called on April 1st to check the status of my claim and again there is nothing filed. Now I am being told that I didn't get the right paperwork filled out and that I need to call another number. I called that number and it is automaded and no one to speak to. I just want the money back for the item that I insured. I am tired of getting the run around by the postal service.
I paid for insurance on my package. I want my $98.00 for the one item that was missing out of my package.

hi, i had sent out a package of food to my daughter from irvine, ca to phili, pa on march 12th (thursday), through priority mail...i thought she would have received it by 16th if not on 14th....yet, she didn't receive it until 18th!!!! and the food was totally spoiled!!! i don't know why i had paid over 8 dollars for some apoiled food!!! pls respond and tell me how i can be compensated............

on Wednesdays . when they have been delivering the mail they have our newspaper they try to stick it in the mail slot with all of the other mail and tear it. They also do not get it all the way in the mail slot to where someone could steal it. but back to tearing it, they have the local paper and to other out of town papers, along with the mail. they try and stick it all in the slot at one time and tear one of the papers most of the time. You call the post office and tell them this and they try and tell you that it is your mail slot on the house. I keep telling them it is because they are tiring to stick 3 plus more inches of mail in a 2 1/2 inch slot, and that the postal carrier needs to separate it and make 2 drops instead of one.
They tell me they can not separate it they have to put it all in at the same time because all they can make one drop. (instead of 2) because it would take them to much time and that is all they were getting payed to do. I say who is going to pay for the damaged papers and they still act as if they do not care. this is almost like the time the postal carer was stealing the mail and the post office did not care to admit it because the post master was retiring and no one wanted to blemish it. I lost my life insurance for over 2 years and it took me a bit to finally get it back but i finally did but if i would have died when i did not have it my wife would have been out it. the post office could only say i am sorry and no harm happened
the post office says that they are always right and the consumer is wrong. cannot read the part that is damaged because it is torn and very badly wrinkled also if it is something that i wanted to put in a scrap book i can not and have to spend the money on another paper

Our current mail person constantly stuffs our Blockbuster Online CDs into our mailbox. I have repeatedly left notes asking that he/she leave them on the ledge above the mailbox or between the outer and inner front door, to no avail.
By stuffing the CDs into the too small mailbox, the return envelope that we use to return the CD to Blockbuster is just torn apart. We tape the envelopes up the best we can, but sooner or later this is going to lead to problems for us with BLockbuster. Is there any way we can get him/her to refrain from tearing up my mail?

On 01/21/09, I shipped a Pansonic VCR through the United States Postal Service, at the Kenhorst Branch. To Patricia Tyler at 62 Osborne Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360-3507. After it arrived Patricia Tyler e-mailed me, and reported that the item was damged during shipping and no longer worked. On 02/05/09, I went to the Kenhorst Branch, with a Customer Damage Claim that I retrieved from the USPS Website. That clearly states at the top (Claims may be filed at any Post Office, Station or Branch).
But the female clerk told me that, we don't take claims here and you're gonna have to take it out the USPS Reading Disribution on North 13th Street in Reading, PA.. I pointed to the top of the claim form where it says can be filed at a any branch. But she said that it dosen't matter And refused to except the claim form. I went home and telephoned the USPS Customer Service. Who contacted the Kenhorst Branch and told them that they had to take the claim. The USPS Customer Service Representive ask me to take the claim back to the Kenhorst Branch, and that the Kenhorst Branch Supervisor would handle it for me.
The supervisor told me that to process the claim he would need to keep the orginal USPS Insurance Mail Reciept with the number on it. I told him that if you take the orginal reciept I won't have any proof that the package was insured. The supervisor told me that he could not process the claim without it. So reluctantly I gave it to the supervisor. On 03/03/09, I contacted the USPS Customer Service to find out why no one had contacted me yet about the claim. And the USPS Customer Service Representative told me that she could not find any record of it. Also that their wasn't anything she could do to help me.
I have already refunded Patricia Tyler $29.40 for the damaged Panasonic VCR. I also have $7.93 out pocket shipping expenses and a $1.70 for Insurance. For a total of $39.03.

Two months ago, I sent a claim into the Hollywood post office regarding a painting I purchased and had shipped. The tracking number was VH 994 797 957 US. The painting was insured (in its original frame) for $9000. The painting arrived with a completely broken frame. I asked the purchaser (a reputable auction house) to send me an invoice discussing the value of the original frame. I took this invoice for $750 and made a claim for the broken frame. I surrendered the broken frame and all original packaging to the Hollywood Post Office.
Months have passed. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. A guy in the Hollywood Post Office named Kenny is supposed to handle all insurance claims. But he completely ignored this situation until last week when I threatened legal action. You need to know: this problem with the Hollywood Post Office is NOT new. Problems concerning lost claims occur all the time. I want my claim honored and I want the Hollywood Post Office suitably disciplined.
I am owed money and the Post Office couldn't care less. They are incompetent and take no responsibility for their own work!

I mailed several items on 2/9/09. A package sent Priority mail never got to Chandler, Az. Two cards were returned that had the correct address. One card that went to Long Beach, Ca, took 7 days to get there, the envelope was ripped and it was repackaged in a clear envelope. I went to the Post office and spoke to the supervisor. He initially helped me then left and kept me standing waiting for over 20 minutes. I think this is horrible service for the USPS. I have never had a package been undeliverable. I never use this post office but used it because I was in the area. How can so much go wrong?
I package never was received I card, ripped and repacked? 2 cards returned with the proper address on them (the second card was returned to me yesterday: 17 days later!!!)

I received a hardbound book purchased from E-bay. It was mailed in a thick. corrugated cardboard book mailer. When it arrived, it had been bent such that the spine was cracked. The whole book is now permanently bent, although still sealed in shrinkwrap. This is unacceptable!

Our daughter mailed us some store gift cards we had purchased. She specifically mailed them at the Post Office @ 6801 West 73rd street, Bedford Park, IL. We recieved the envelope from the post office in a plastic bag stating the letter & contents were damaged. The letter was not damageded. It was open by someone at that post office & the contents stolen. I am assuming this because the plastic postal bag the envelope was in was from the office she mailed it at.
$125.00 in stolen gift cards.

On 2/2/04 a package from SEARS was delivered to my home address located at 2732 Amigo, Marrero, LA 70072, by my normal mail carrier. The package was placed inside my fenced-in carport that is located on the side of my dwelling. My black lab chewed the box and contents to shreds all over my yard. This is not the first time this has happened, but other times I caught the package in time to save what was left of it. My front yard that leads to my door is not fenced in and my porch leading to my front door is not fenced in. I have a 'beware of dog' sign posted on my fence and my dog as been continuously confined to my backyard since Feb. 22, 2008 with no absence at all.
I spoke to Mr. Joseph Porche at the Marrero USPS and he informed me that the mail carrier was my normal carrier and that he left the package there because he, the carrier, thought that it was the securest place to put it because he didn't see my dog at the time. The sign on my fence is the advertisement that I have a dog back there and it should not be assumed by anyone that the dog is not there. The package should not have been placed inside the fence due to the 'black and neon orange' sign that clearly states a dog is behind the fence. A notice could have been left on my door for me to pick up the package from the post office or the package could have been placed on my front porch/door step.
he contents of my order was 4 DVD's from SEARS in the amount of $55.14. Proof of amount and contents can be provided and should be reimbursed due to the carriers carelessness in choosing a secure place to deliver my mail. Luckily the contents of the package can be replaced. I would like to be re-imbursed so I can re-orer.

My mail is being opened. I reported this during the summer of 2008 and the supervisor placed a monitor on our mail which caused the issue to stop. This started to happen again around November of 2008. It increased during the holidays and I just reported it again today, 1/23/09. This supervisor says he will put a monitor on it as well;however, I do not want to keep repeating this cycle. How can I end this for good?

My grandmother called me on 1/14/09 and told me she was sending my birthday money ($50) in the mail with a card as she has done every year for the past 20 years. I received the card today, 1/16/09, and found that the envelope had been opened and re-taped, and there was a handwritten note on the back with "sorry opened by mistake delivered to wrong address". Of course, the $50 was missing. On the front of the card, my zipcode written by my grandmother as part of my address had been scribbled out, someone else re-wrote my zipcode then scribbled it out again, then wrote it a third time on the front of the envelope.
Again, my grandmother has been sending my birthday cards to this same address for the past 10 out of 20 years. She knows my correct zipcode and prints legibly. I can see through the scribble enough to see that the correct zipcode was written originally. In addition, the postal barcode at the bottom clearly has the correct zipcode on it. I have no reason to believe that this card was delivered to someone's home, opened, and then handed back to the postman for re-delivery for several reasons: 1) if someone is going to steal money after a card was delivered at the wrong residential address, why would the thief bother to give the card back to the postman to redeliver? It would be easier to just throw away the card as though it never existed. 2) The card is postmarked 1/14/09. It has always taken exactly 2 days for mail to come from my grandmother's address to mine. If the card was truly delivered "accidentally" to the wrong zip code, it is not likely that I would have received it until at least the 17th when the postman was able to redeliver it. This gives me reason to believe that the crime was committed by a U.S. postal worker.

A 30-pound package I sent the previous week was returned to me, dropped off on the front porch with an ink stamp on it stating, found loose in the mails at los angeles BMC.
The package contained a compact music center with a wood casing and was packed in original factory container. It was crushed and unusable. No explanation, no offer to reconcile damages obviously incurred by a USPS employee. I am out $125 for a product purchased from me on ebay. I did not have insurance because I was told USPS rarely honors insurance claims, but they should be liable for damages they cause particularly when it is the result of careless handling.

I sent a insured package to South Dakota. The amount of insurance, $200.00 was purchased at the time. The contents was a hydrogen cell that I had custom built in California. The cell was damaged in route. The receiver of the package returned it to the postal carrier & filled out a claims form. The employee (Jess P.) sent the cell back to me with a letter saying to get it repaired. Then to send the invoice with the cell back to him. I did as explained in the letter. The cost to get it repaired was over the $200 that I had insured the item for.
A month transpired & nothing was heard about the package. I then called the postal office to find out what had happened to the package. The postal carrier worker Said he was waiting to here from the claims office (Seattle, Washington), also the package was sent there. He was very nasty to me on the the phone after I asked him for the claims office number. I then asked him for his supervisors number. His answer was I don't have any. I looked up the phone number for the claims office & found out it wasn't in Seattle but in ST Louis. I called the number of the claims office & talked to a worker. I gave her the insurance claims number. She said, There was no claim ever processed from Hill City SD USPS. She suggested I call the Postal Service back in Hill City to try & locate the Package.
I did as directed & with luck the worker (Jess P.) wasn't working but another employee was. He said the package was still there. I asked him how I could get it released. He said I would have to cancel the insurance to get it back. I did because of fear of the package being lost conveniently. I had the claims carrier in St Louis call the USPS (Postal Office) in Hill City telling them to release the package. When the receiver of the package went to pick it up , the Postal Carrier worker (Jess P.) threw the package at him & Said I'm going to have you arrested for insurance fraud & income tax evasion.
I never was at any time, disrespectful or forceful. I found out that the insurance threw the postal service is like giving your money away. Trying talk to a person in control is like trying to catch the wind. No one answers to no one. I Feel fortunate that I got it back. Item real value was $600. $218 to get the item repaired. 4 hrs of time on the telephone.

Postal service sorting machine damageed letter containing money order payment. Letter was delivered damaged and was returned to us as unacceptable.Payment was late and it will cost $15.00 dollars more to have a new money order issued and will take ten weeks to recive. Postal service says that their is nothing they can do.

I have had the USPS shipping department destroy more items than anyone in my entire existence. You continually damage items sent, to include the last one. And what does the Post office have to say? did you buy insurance, if not we cant help you. This seems more like extorsion.....having to pay for a service, your employee's should care about their jobs and how they do them. I'll never use the post office again, ever! Thank you for the very expensive lesson learned!
Box damaged externally, meter broken out of the case, this was caused by throwing the item. I have shipped expensive equipement around the world and have never experienced such inconsiderate handling of personnal property!

Perishable mail was left on a porch where dogs got to it and ate it. No attempt to rectify the situation was made. This is not the first time mail has been misplaced or put in an undesirable location.
I am out $24 for a gift for my daughter.

I receive mail in a big bank of boxes for which the carrier opens a large locked door to expose all of the boxes for the building. Last night the carrier had stuffed large pieces of mail into my box, including a CD, and I had to struggle with and to shred its packaging and another large piece of mail to pull it through the small door which I open. The carrier could have just given it to the desk attendant like they always do with to much or too large mail pieces.

I received a letter from USPS (dated August 4th) stating that there was no visible damage to the exterior or interior of the package. I personally saw the damage to the box so I went to my post office, retrieved the box and took photos of it on the counter. I enclosed photos of the package as documentation of the damage. The package remained at the post office per their instructions during the appeals process. I asked to be notified of the appeals hearing so that I could participate in the process.
I called August 12th and spoke with a postal employee. They advised that they needed more information from my local post office and that the denial did not look right. The employee said they would give me an update in 5-7 days. I never heard back from them. I called again on August 18th and they claimed they had no further information even after I was promised an update. I then called my local post office and a supervisor ("Al") said he had not heard from the claims department at all in reference to this claim. I called again on September 11th and was told that my appeal had still not been entered in their computer. Another call was placed on October 6th and I was told someone would call me back.
Since there was still no record of my appeal, I mailed a second appeal with photos on October 9th, this time using Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. On October 9th, I called again to report that no one had called me back. A Ms W told me that they would do some research and call me back. On October 15th I called yet again and this time spoke with Sharon who promised me yet again that someone would call me back. On October 16th someone did finally call me back but not in the time frame I had requested (after 12 noon PST) so I called them back. They acknowledged receiving Priority Mail from me but claimed that my appeal still had not been entered into the computer. I asked if there was notation of all the times I had called, and she said they were switching to a new computer system and that my calls may not have been saved.
Surprisingly, I received a letter today (October 20th) from Autria F which was dated on October 16th stating that my appeal was denied. As I had called around 4-5 pm their time on October 20th, I don't see how they could have processed my appeal especially since their own personnel stated I was not even in the system yet. I have one final appeal to the Consumer Advocate in Washington, DC.I under-insured the crystal for $800 and would like my $800 and shipping costs back. I can only hope that the consumer advocacy department in DC is more organized and interested in getting to the bottom of this then my experience with the Claims Dept in St. Louis who I found unprofessional and frankly, uncaring.
This goes to show you that you can pay for USPS insurance but that does NOT mean that you are insured. I followed their instructions to the letter and have gotten nothing but delays, denials and more aggravation than you can possibly imagine.
What is it going to take to get what I rightfully paid for???

Improper mail delivery by particular mail carrier and intentional mail mutilation. Multiple complains to the post office administration without results.
Mail mutilation and lost of mail .

I ordered ink jets from a company on the internet and recieved a few days later a crushed and taped up box, stamped fragile. Half the contents were missing although the packing order was inside. I then went to the post office to complain. I was told since the box was not insured that there was nothing they can do. They did offer to see if they could locate them in the lost and found somewhere up the road. Losing my merchandise is one thing but having to deal with some smart elect with the mentality of a grape fruit just gripes my-- well. Guess I won't be getting any better service not to mention being out $30.00.
This same post master sent my mother's car title back to state as non deliverable because she didn't recognise the address even though it's 2 blocks from the post office. She also delivered my mother's disabled car liscence plate to my home address and I live out in the country 5 miles from town. There again it was stamped undeliverable. The funny thing is, my rural carrier delivers mail to my mother's address too, yet half of it seems to be undeliverable. Complaining doesn't seem to help, you just gotta take it and lump it I guess.
Box originaly held 4 inkjets when shipped. When recieved it was crushed, ripped open and then retaped. 2 inkjets where gone pluss all the peenuts. The folded up packing list and order where still inside. Box was clearly stamped fragile. I'm out $30.00 plus $4.00 dollar a gallon gas to go and argue will these people. I'm sick of them.
