Movie Fans Suspect Foul Play at the Post Office

The Americans With Disabilities Act may not have been written with postal delivery in mind but it seems that some accommodation should be made for those who need a little extra help. Failing that, maybe postal vans could at least avoid parking in handicapped spaces.

Kenneth of Aurora, CO, writes:
I am disabled and in a wheelchair. I returned home from work and found a postal service vehicle parked in the handicapped parking space. I called my wife to let her know I was in the parking lot since she has to help me bring my stuff up to the apartment, and told her it would be awhile because I had to wait for the carrier to move the vehicle so I could park.

She went and found the carrier and asked her if she would PLEASE move the veh. since she was parked in the handicapped space and I was waiting. My wife came out to my car very mad. She told me she had asked the carrier, and the carrier told her to F*** OFF I WILL PARK ANY GODDAMN PLACE I WANT TO! My wife stated she would be calling the postmaster with a complaint, and the carrier told my wife that if she did, "Watch and see how much mail you get."

Take, for example, Julia of Stamford, CT:
I have had my mail left in the lobby when it does not fit in the mailbox, despite the act that I am home all te time and I can be reached by calling me on an intercom system (I live on the second floor of this building). I have a disability and I can no longer walk to my mailbox downstair because of severe fatigue. When my regular mailman is not on, my mail is left downstairs or either left in front of my door and no one knocks to let me know it is there!
It would only take one minute for a mailperson to call upstairs, and for me to buzz them in and for them to bring me the package that doesn't fit in the box! I live by myself and have the person who does my grocery shopping once a week check the mailbox for me.

I have in the past lost two packages, one was $100 of medical supplies and the other was a $60 package. I was told that it is at the mailperson's discretion whether to leave a package or not when it doesn't fit in the mailbox or to leave a pink slip and take the package back to the post office for pickup.

I have been waiting for five packages, all mailed from different places, mailed from March 2-8 which I have not yet received. I don't know if they are lost in the mail or have been left in the lobby and have been taken by someone!

Funny they will stuff your mailbox with letters for people who don't live there and you notify them about it and they are insistent on doing that and when it comes to trying to get packages to their proper recipient, they could care less, as long as they get it to the right address!

If the Postal Service is so busy with its many new commercial ventures, maybe it should subcontract delivery to disabled persons to the local organizations that provide the Meals on Wheels programs. They are constantly strapped for funds and they would certainly provide better, more humane service.
