FedEx Buys Kinko's

Carl of Norman OK (12/19/03):
Driver was supposed to deliver flowers to my wife from her daughter in Nebraska. Instead of locating the proper address, he (she) just dumped the package at the side of the road about a mile south of the correct address. A very nice lady found the box and called us. OUR TELEPHONE NUMBER WAS ON THE LABEL! She brought the package to us. Apparently she had contacted Fedex and they said that they might pick it up and redeliver it Saturday or Monday.

The fedex employee should, at the very least, be relieved of any duties that involve numbers and any contact with the public that might involve properties with addresses. A complete grammar school education might be required.

Matthew of Cleveland (12/3/03):
I had a package shipped from L.A. Computer center via Fedex. Fedex bungled the street address on the shipping label, as well as the zip code. A high school kid could have solved this problem on the computer in a few minutes. Or they could have called me. Instead I spent half a day trying to figure out what was wrong. L.A. Computer said they have had many problems with Fedex. Fed-ex is sending out the package tomorrow, but would not admit the error was theirs.

I think it was simply a sloppy clerical error on their part. It's an expensive product and I needed it soon, which is why I paid $36 for next-day shipping. I think people should know Fedex is not as reliable as they claim.

Damon of Katy TX (11/11/03):
I purchased tickets to an NFL game on ebay. The tickets were purchased 10/16/03 (Thursday) for 10/19/03 (Sunday) game. The package was supposed to be delivered on Saturday before noon. I did not receive my package until the following Monday 10/29/03. The tickets for the Sunday game were useless to me at this point because they were only good for the Sunday game.

My package was going from Victoria, Texas to Houston. The package ended up going to Memphis, Tennessee. The sender helped me file the claim on 10/21/03. I have been working with the sender of the package and Fedex to get a refund for the amount of the tickets and the shipping charges. I have called Fedex at least 8 times, spending at least 15 minutes each call trying to get an answer to the claim. Each time I keep getting the same answer. "Our claim department is working on it".

The claim form says that the claims usually take 7-10 days for resolution. I called on 7-10-03 to find out that one of the claims persons had closed the claim and didn't make a decision on it. While speaking to that person they reopened the claim and said that someone would contact me again regarding the claim. I am beginning to lose faith with their claims department. I am not going to give up until I get a full refund for everything I paid to receive the useless tickets late.

Damage Resulting: Tickets and shipping charges were 156.92. I have spent approximately 4 hours trying to get a claim settled. I spent additional $50 dollars to get tickets at last minute.

Parker of Newport RI (10/28/03):
Liberty is very special to military members. I was recently accepted to the Naval Academy and wanted to celebrate with some friends. I ordered three World Series tickets for game 6. As a diehard Yankee fan this was perfect. The tickets were supposed to be shipped over night for A.M. delivery in order to reach me before I left to go to New York.

The first two reached me with no problem. The third however had been misrouted by Fedex. The consequence of this was that I was unable to attend the World Series. I contacted the ticket broker who agreed to refund me my ticket cost, but as a diehard Yankee fan it still wasn't the same.

Kevin of Custer SD (3/3/03):
FedEx claims to deliver throughout the world, but I guess rural South Dakota isn't part of that world. I have had my packages dropped all over town. I had a gun delivered to the local school, another gun and a saddle to the hospital and once packages were dropped at the drug store, which I had never done business with, who called me and asked why I had my packages delivered to them. All of these locations are over 20 miles from my residence.

Today's package was shipped from TX to SD then taken to the United States Postal Service for delivery. Well it weighed over 20 pounds and was huge so all the USPS did was send me a package pick-up slip. Needless to say the express shipping I paid for took 2 days from TX to SD (acceptable) then 1 day for the USPS to notify me then I had to wait the weekend for the USPS to be opened so I could receive it. We had the same issue with UPS when we moved here but after some communications with tier 3 management they finally make the drive to the house. I have done the same with FedEx but they still refuse to make the drive.

If FedEx wants to dump the rural customers then they should not accept packages for said customers. And of all the talking I have done not once has anyone at FedEx offered me a portion of my shipping charges back as compensation for a 40 mile round trip drive to pick up my packages.

Mark of Nederland CO (2/7/03):
In the past 2-1/2 years I've received somewhere on the order of 80-100 packages at my home. Only five of them from Fedex because I now INSIST that shippers use UPS or Airborne. Every package delivered by these two has been on time, every time. That's impressive for 100 packages.

I'm writing today because I'm embroiled in yet another hassle. My package was supposed to arrive yesterday. I didn't expect it to since Fedex's track record with me has been 80% failures. Sure enough, the package didn't arrive. That didn't bother me so much. What DID bother me was that in tracking this package I go the message "customer not available." This is utter nonsense. I work at home and have been home all week. I was waiting for this package. I have two dogs that go ballistic anytime anyone steps foot on the driveway. They were quiet as church mice. It snowed yesterday. There were no footprints or tire tracks anywhere.

In short, the drive made NO ATTEMPT to deliver this package and lied about it. Which brings to another similar incident. A package came a week after it was supposed to. I contacted Fedex headquarters with the complaint. Their regional manager finally replied and told me that weather problems got in the way. In fact, the weather was perfect for that entire week. Once again, Fedex employees lying to cover up their errors.

I had a large package shipped by Fedex. The driver took the wrong road and couldn't make it to my house because he couldn't get under the overpass. I had to drive for 45 minutes to pick up a 300-pound package. Did anyone apologize? Compensate me for my time? Refund the cost of freight? NOPE. The other incident was a late delivery, but no interesting side notes. Just plain old boring late delivery.

To their "credit" they did deliver a package on time ONCE. So there you have it. Five packages, 4 of them problematic. Two of them involving lying.

Veronica of New York, NY, writes:
Many of the FedEx packages delivered to our office are left unsigned for, on the floor in our lobby. I have complained about this to FedEx several times and been told that a local manager would call me. No one calls and the problem persists. One day I got a call from a company in another building on my street that a FedEx package addressed to my company was found in the street, open. I went to pick up my package from this good samaritan, and called Fed Ex.

According to FedEx the package was signed for by a person that does not exist at our company or in our building. The delivery address was correct. I reported this incident to FedEx, but never received any response. Today, a FedEx delivery containing the company payroll was left in the lobby. It was not there when the first of our companies employees arrived in the morning, so it is assumed that the FedEx delivery person never bothered to ring the bell.

Fortunately, there have been no major consequences at this point, but some of the materials, such as payroll, are highly sensitive, and could result in great loss and problems to our company if not delivered securely. There is a reason why companies pay more money for FedEx service, and that is for security and prompt delivery.
