Had a Cross Country Credit Card in 1997 - 1998. Paid off the card in 2002. It's now 2008, and I have a collection agency trying to collect on that card. This ruins my credit!

This has caused stress; I'm 79 years old....

I have been sued by Cross Country Cank for a credit card I never owned, asked for or signed up for. I have gotted calls starting at 6:00 a.m. and going on untill 11:59 p.m. telling me that I need to pay up or that they will put a lien on my bank acct. When asked to show me my app. they can't find it or what I bought when I bought things etc, etc, etc. These people are in for a big fight with me if they think I'm going to just roll over and pay for something I never had.

I had both a Visa and Mastercard from Cross Country Bank at one time, in 2004. I sent them a payment of 400 and within a week they expected another payment of almost 300.. I called and asked if they received my 400 payment and they said they did. I told them no way could I make another huge payment like that. I am a single mom with six kids, on one income. I only took the credit cards out to help me raise my family and used them in times of need. They harrassed me by phone and mail mercilessly, finally taking me to court, trying to garnish my wages, unsuccessfully because I'm get state aid. I will never be able to pay this debt off, and I resent the harrassment I had from them for almost 2 years after the court date. There should be a punishment for creditors that harrass like that.

This resulted in a 2,107.90 amount that the court awarded them, and Cross Country Bank threatened that it would stay on my record for up to 20 years! Whatever happened to bills falling off after 7 years? I was very stressed and victimized by this company. My kids and I had harrassing phone calls twice a day for 2 years, even on Sundays at 9:00pm!

I am still being sent letters by collection agencies for a card I opened in 2001 and charged 17.00 which I paid off and was then charged in purchases (which I did not make) for approx. 300.00 and interest of approx 500.00 totaling over 1000.00. I applied for this card in 2001 in NY State. I also tried to cancel this card several times and they would not. I was constantly called on the phone. They have reported me to the credit bureau.

I have never opened up a credit card with Cross Country bank. I am being harrassed by a collection agency called leading edge recovery systems. My pocketbook was stolen a month after I had a devistating total ankle fracture. I reported this to the credit bureaus now I am being threatened to pay over 1000.00 USD. I am disabled and unable to work. What do I do now? I never had a card with Cross country bank, someone stole my identity and now it is ruining my credit.
