I activated a TracFone but the number activated was not a local number. When I called TracFone they said they would have to deactivate my phone and then I would have to wait 24 to 48 hours to get a local number. Why don't they tell you when you call in to activate a phone there are no local numbers available? Having to wait for a local number takes valuable time as well as the fact I do not have contact with my son due to the wait.

Laurette of Calumet City, IL (07/29/06) For those who have trouble getting a number in your area code because Tracfone doesn't have one...don't despair. Simply go to the Better Business Bureau.
I had the same issue with them. I live, work, worship in one area code and I did not want a different one for people to reach me. It made no sense. After 2 WEEKS of calling, getting the wrong SIM card, and what had to been a call or two from the BBB, I finally got what I asked for. Now I am seeking another company to deal with!!!
Leroy of Alliance, NE April 20, 2006
Leroy of Alliance NE (04/20/06) I purchased a motorola tracfone v60i-TDMA and it wouldn't work in my area, I called the toll free number and they told me that if I sent it to them they would send me back the v60i CDMA which should work, I told them if they couldn't do that to send me back the same phone That I sent to them they kept my phone and sent me something different, which is not what I wanted. It has been 7 mo. and still they keep giving me the run around about how they will get me the right phone !!!!
The damage is stress from not being able to get the phone I sent to them on their suggestion to do so!
Thomas of Jackson, MI March 17, 2006
Thomas of Jackson MI (03/17/06) When I purchased a new phone to replace my older one I asked if I could keep the same number, I was told I could. Upon receiving my new phone I fould out I need a SIM card. That card has a new phone number. I contacted Tracfone, was told it would take 10 business days to get the problem taken care of. After 10 days I called and the person told me I had to wait 10 days, it had been 10 days, I could not get the person to look at a calendar to count the days.
I contacted them last week Friday, was told the contacted that department that does the cards and was told it would take another week to call back in a week. Well I called today and was told it would take 30 days to get this number assigned. What are we talking about 5 minutes of time to change the number? I called the department that I purchased the worthless phone from to have them send me a return slip as I am done waithing and listening to their stories. Well I was told THEIR PHONES ARE NOT RETURNABLE - ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Stacy of Warren, PA March 10, 2006
Stacy of Warren PA (03/10/06) I purchased a tracfone on december 28, 2005 and did not get a local number. I have been calling tracfone for over 2 months now and keep getting the run around. Know one seems to know why I have'nt been sent a new sim card with a local number. I am always told that I should receive my new sim card within 5 day's and it never show's up. I can't understand why I should have to call this company every 5 days to see if they actually sent me a new sim card!!!! It seem's as if no one cares that I spent my money on their product and they are screwing me over!!! Tracfone should let people know that they are here only to take our money and could care less about customer support!! This is terrible, something needs to be done!!
