Darlene of Hooksett NH (02/15/08) We bought through Fingerhut a comforter set for my aunt. She was supposed to make payments for us and failed to. We took over payments and settled the account. Fingerhut was supposed to send us a letter for a phone payment and did not. On January 27, 2004, check #1102 for the amount 80.00, was cleared as a settlement on this account again. I was told that Fingerhut would send us a letter saying the account had been cleared. Fingerhut then proceeded to send it to another collection agency. They have since sent this account to several agencies, who have each tried to collect on the same bill.
On Friday, January 28, 2005, a complaint was filed against Jefferson Capital and Fingerhut with the Consumer Affairs Bureau regarding this account. On August 5, 2005, a letter was sent to Penccro Associates disputing this bill. Fingerhut then sent the bill to Midland Credit, who billed us again. On October 28, 2005, a letter was sent to Midland Credit Management disputing this bill. On February 12, 2008, another bill from Midland Credit management was received offering another settlement. I have sent them another letter disputing this bill.
Credit score/rating has been affected, affecting loan availability, emotional stress, and because of the emotional stress, heart burn and panic attacks.
Kathy of Girard, PA December 10, 2007
Kathy of Girard PA (12/10/07) I paid all my payments to Fingerhut through my credit union (Debit) which were 42.00 dollars. Back in May of 2007 Fingerhut starting taking payments out of my account whenever they felt the need to, without my authorization.
I contacted them about this issue, and they said I would need to fax them my statements showing these transactions because their records do not show any such debits from my account. I had my credit union fax all papers over to them and I also sent them to the company. I never heard any thing back from them about this matter. They caused me to over draw on my account and also caused me to bounce 2 checks because they took the money that was budgeted for those checks. With the check fees, bounce fees and credit union fees it all came to 169.80, and I was unable to pay for the one check that bounced because of them. Now it is on my credit report. Now they are sending me bills stating that they are going to turn my account over to a collection agency if payment is not received. I had never been late on any payments to this company until they did this to me and will not take responsibilty for their mistake. I have tried to file with the Better B.B, but they said because it involves checks they cannot handle it. My credit union closed my checking account because of the over drafts Fingerhut caused me. They are ruining my credit and don't even care.
Luz of Lorain, OH March 12, 2007
Luz of Lorain OH (03/12/07) I have an account with this company that I send a check for payment. I used to send it online but it was never processed by due date. I would get calls forever. I once called and yelled at the operator about didn't they check payment status, etc, she just told me I hadn't paid - when in fact the payment had been sent to be processed on time. The payment for this month was also sent to be processed on time (they have a date on the statement which to send payment) - this was done on time, again, this company has been contacting me morning, night and day! The calls come in on my cell phone and my home pone - I check my caller id. I just rec'd calls on today's date again! That shows the payment was not processed because it was sent way in advance of the due date. There has to be something I can do to get this company to change their unfair practices.
There is actually no economic damage (such as late fee); however, they are violating some law because they are harrassing people when the payment has been in their possession.
