Jaguar Transmission

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

We purchased a new 2000 S-Type Jaguar. The car is now on it's third transmission! There are 40,000 miles on this car and so far we are averaging 14,000 miles per transmission. There is something faulty with this automobile and Jaguar refuses to admit it. They will not take ANY responsiblity for this car's problems and I don't know where else to turn for resolution.

A new transmission for the 2000 S-Type costs $5,000. I can not afford to keep replacing the transmission. It is time for Jaguar to step up to the plate and stop allowing its customers to carry the expense of their faulty cars.

I have a 1998 Vanden Plas. It was covered with the full extended warranty. Over the past year I have taken it in to the dealership 6 times complaining about the transmission jerking, hissing, revving and not shifting. Each time I was told there was nothing wrong with it and charged for having them check it out when there was no problem. 5 months ago it jerked really badly and stopped going. It was towed into the dealership, they said it was the transmission, they kept it over a week and said it was fixed.
The warranty ran out Feb. 11th. Three days ago it jerked again and stopped going. I had it towed in and they said it was the transmission, it had to be replaced at the cost of $7,000. I said no, they said 4,000. I say no, they say it is out of warranty and I'm out of luck. I'm ready to sue.

We hate to say it but Maggie should have unloaded the Jag after the first transmission was replaced.

I have a 1998 XJR which is only a year out of warranty, however the transmission suddenly failed and the car was not functional. I contacted Jaguar however they said one year out of warranty is too out of date for the problem to be of any concern to them. They are apparently content with expensive parts failing just a little past warranty expiration.

Furthermore, I spoke with several transmission specialists who told me that this is a common problem on 1998 XJR's and that many others had similar experiences. This was the only year that they used this particular transmission. The transmission cost about $13,000 to replace, a ridiculously large amount considering the current blue book value of the car.
