Feds Probe Honda Ignition Problems

It's true. We even get complaints about Honda, which some would call the world's most perfect moderately-priced car. Something Honda should be concerned about is that loyal, repeat customers are beginning to grouse that they will defect to Toyota because of reliability and warranty problems in the latest crop of Hondas.

Here a few of the more recent complaints:

cheryl of Frederic, WI September 2, 2009

6/18/09 we brought my 2004 honda crv.in to have a rust spot inside the gas tank door. if was very evident that it was rusting from the inside out. I was advised that this problem was not covered honda warranty because it has not perforated through the panelt. I understand these warranties, but am a little frustrated that with todays advancement with antirust prep that this type of issue would result.

Karen of Garland, TX August 31, 2009

November 2007, I purchased a 2008 Honda Accord LX. I had to replace my back brakes for my 2008 Honda Accord LX on 09/26/08(less than a year) at 20,090 miles and did 2nd back brakes replacement on 08/31/09 at 38,093 miles. It appears I will need to replace my back brakes every 12 months or less. Honda should recall these cars for the brakes and repaired the problem; it is dangerous.

Edgar of Plano, TX August 30, 2009

Traded in my 1995 Honda Accord LX and bought new 2009 Honda Accord on Nov 28, 2008. After 3 days, the brakes started squeeking. Took it to my service advisor where he sanded the rotors and it stopped squeeking. After about 5 days it started squeeking again and told my service advisor where I was told this is a known issue on new Accords and that their Corporate is having R&D do research and come up with a fix. I was told it would take 30-60 days.

It's now Aug 2009 and still no fix. I did research on internet and found others with same issue and those who have contacted Honda USA with no resolution. Everyone getting same story. At this point I decided to send a letter to Mr Takanobo I in Japan. I sent the letter on Aug 11, 2009.

I got a call from a Ms Laura on Aug 28, 2009 from Honda USA in California. She told me Japan had sent them a copy of my letter and that they were calling me in response. I told them about the car brake issue on my new Accord. She said they know about the issue but that it's proprietary information about the time of fix. I asked why Honda has not sent out any bulletins since this is common on almost all new Accords and she said she will take advisement to her superiors. I asked what do I do in the meantime and she said to contact local dealer about any updates. I asked again about fix time since it's been over 8 months and she said it's proprietary.

A day later I get a letter from Mr Chieko S of Parts Service and Service Division in Japan apologizing about my issue and that Honda USA would be best to handle my case.

I called my service advisor on Aug 29 about update and he said currently no fix yet and they are waiting from corporate. He told me he has a long list of other customers with the same issue and they are waiting from corporate. I told him it's been 8 months and he said there's nothing he can do as there is no fix yet.

I will keep sending email to Mr I and Mr S until this issue is resolved and request for refunds for my postages. I have put his address on other forums to see if other owners want to send their own letters in hopes of getting issue resolved faster.

Any help on the way ? I heard Honda is not doing anything about thsi - Honda says due to bird droppings or sap - But then why arent other dealers Black and Green cars doing this?

jason of manchester, NJ August 29, 2009

there is a promblem with the 2000 honda accord transmission and there was a settlement with honda about this promblem. i was never told and they want me to pay of it. i bought my car in 2003 from the dealer.

John of Stroudsburg, PA August 28, 2009

2008 Honda Accord lacks sufficient front bumper ground clearance to ground. Three times within first year that the front bumper scraps the ground at the littlest surface incline. Had to have the front bumper refaced 3 times. Poor design. Will larger tires help this problem?

Carl of Decatur, GA August 28, 2009

I have a 2006 Honda Accord EX V-6 with 83k. I have owned this car since it was new. Recently I was driving my car back to the office when I was getting off the highway the check engine light began flashing. I immediately pulled over and there was a muffled popping noise that I thought could of been a leaking vaccuum hose. I had the car towed into Curry Honda in Atlanta. The next day I had found out from the dealership that my spark plug had essentially exploded into my head causing the coil to melt as well ruining the rear head on my car which resulted in its need to be replaced.

I was told by my Service Adviser, a close friend of mine (who is a Honda Master Tech), my father who has worked for Honda on and off for 30 years, the service manager of his dealership, my mother and stepfathers service manager that and they all say they have NEVER EVER seen this happen to a Honda.

I was also told that my spark plugs were not to be changed until 105k miles... So my plugs are the original ones from the factory. I was told that I need to contact Honda Corporate and basically their Dealer Service Rep for my region had communicated to me "Sorry your car is out of warranty!"

todd of booneville, KY August 25, 2009

i bought trx450r 3800.00.this was a used atv.the first owner had crank failure he rebuilt it sold to me.i have had it for 2 years and am currently looking to by my 3rd new crank.i ordered one from leclare motorsports they they declined order.stated that honda recalled cranks.stated it would be 2 months before avalability.

i contacted honda they stated no recall.if there was no recall then how come you cant even order part from honda dealerships.i beleive that with the money the bikes sell for they should stand good for the parts.at least send the customers a free new upgraded crank instead of charging anoter 3or4 hundred.this third crank will be approx 1500 worth of cranks what the hell "its more money for them"the atv is 2004 bought new in june 2005.

Yvonne of Shingle Springs, CA August 20, 2009

I was stranded on a mountain highway when my 2002 Honda Civic stopped running. The transmission gave out after only 74,000 miles on my car. I was shocked. I would never expected this to happen with so few miles and the car being a Honda. My faith is shattered.

ARNOLD of PICO RIVERA, CA August 14, 2009

Bought a brand new 2009 Honda Accord sedan and after approximately 1000 miles, started experiencing brake noise. the level of the noise was not great but after 3000 miles, the noise was just annoying. I bought the Honda because of its history of being a reliable car. Now, i find for myself that Honda is just another car. i have taken the car twice to the dealer and have spoken with a Honda Corp. representative and they tell me the same story. that there is no defect or recalls known and that basically i have to live with the problem.
