I paid $34.99 for my carfax and never got it. I have had several responses created automatically (of course) from carfax I requested several times over a period of four hours, only to still get automatic answers. Nothing. I then requested a refund and still no answer other than the standard carfax answer, "We wil respond with an e-mail" and so on.

My carfax report states that "None of the major title problems were reported by a State DMV. If you find that any of these title problems were reported by a DMV and not included in this report, CarFax will buy this vehicle back".
On April 12th 2011, I obtained a carfax report for a 2009 Toyota Matrix, which indicated no reported accidents. Based on the information in this report, I decided to purchase the vehicle.
On August 16th, I was presented with an AutoCheck report that indicates that the vehicle was involved in a collision on May 11th 2009, as reported by a State Agency. This information is nearly two years prior to my purchase of the vehicle, so I think its reasonable to expect that the information should have been reflected on the report from April 12th.
Based on this information, I expected CarFax to honor its buyback policy. I opened a case and sent them both the CarFax and AutoCheck reports. However, they quickly responded back that they were sorry to tell me that my claim did not qualify for their guarantee.
I believe that CarFax uses deceptive business practices, and that their much-advertised comprehensive vehicle information database is much less so. I would be interested in helping to initiate and/or participate in a class action suit against CarFax.

Paid for five reports and can only get one. I will be calling my bank and have the $54.99 credit back to my account. This company is a joke. I rate this company a zero!

I ordered their service and cannot get reports. There is no email or phone number for customer contact. The customer "Help" tab is a blank page.

On 5/28/2006 I attempted to use Carfax.com to obtain an online report on a used vehicle for a friend and used my visa debit card. When I clicked continue at the end of entering all the necessary data, their system responded with the message that it was unable to complete the transaction at this time- to try again later. I then canceled the attempt but much to my chagrin, I found out that my account was debited anyway even though I did not receive the report. When I wasn't able to get the report, I had made another purchase and when the carfax charge hit my account, it caused my account to overdraft and I incurred a $27.00 overdraft fee in addition to their $29.99. I would like carax to investigate and refund my money and all fees associated immediately. I attempted to contact them via the phone number on my bank statement and only received a recording that provided me with their email. I would like to resolve this matter immediately. In this economy, every penny counts and if they could not provide the service then they should not have debited my account.

I paid $39 twice for a month of unlimited vin checks. Each time, Car Fax deactivated my account without notice. In their website it states if they suspect I am in the business of car dealing they will deactivate my account. I am NOT in the business; however, I am actively shopping to buy a car in a local auction. A friend who has a license lets me into the auction and I make a list of cars with vins. I run the vins and if I like a few then he tries to win one for me. I want a deal and up to now, I have lost all of the bids.
I sent Car Fax many emails asking them to activate my account or refund the money. I am not trying to buy many cars. I am trying to buy one, but I am running many to see if I get lucky and get one for personal use at the best possible (steal) price. Please get them to refund my money and stop advertising unlimited vin checks. They scammed me for $78...NOT FARE!

i paid $39 and suddenly they froze my account because too many activity... is your problem all i was doing was just chaking each cars history .

I just requested and paid for a report from you on a 2006 Ford Fusion. I have not been able to bring it up and cannot get back into it. Please refund my monty ($29.99) immediately, or email me on how to receive this printout.

I purchased carfax unlimited history report on Aug 05 and was using it for a month. On Sep 06 my account has expired. But as I still didn't find a car of my dream on Sep 06 I purchased carfax history report again and my credit card was deducted by $34.99. I received email from carfax that my account is now activated. I tryed to login and received an error - your account is expired. So I wrote email to carfax complaining about it. Nothing happened. I decided to wait till Monday. On Monday morning (9am) I write email to carfax again and received an answer with my email reference number. It was said If your e-mail was sent before 4:00 PM Eastern Time you will receive a reply within two business hours. If sent after 4:00 PM Eastern Time a response will be sent the next business day. Now it is already 12:30pm and I still can' log in to my account. And I can't find any info about refund. I wrote email to carfax about refund but didn't get any answer. This is really fraud company doesn't caring about costomers. Why to write about 2hour answer if they can't keep their word.
About 5 cars which I liked appeared in those 3 days but I couldn't buy them because wanted to check carfax. Of cause all cheap and clean cars were already sold.

i paid for a full year and your records state that my membership has expired.
im paying for another year 29.99. and my credit card needs to be refunded.

I purchased the unlimited vin number check from Carfax. It turns out what I purchased was not unlimited. Because I checked too many vehicles according to them, they've disabled my account. I went through about 50 cars or so when my account was disabled. I demanded my money back; they didn't get back to me for weeks. Instead of my money they just added the remaining days to the account weeks after I purchased my car.

We paid $24.99 for a report on the history of a Yamaha 400 Majestic Scooter with a salvaged title. We did not receive a report. I want my money back.
Paid $24.99 for nothing.

I clicked through a link to purchase the Carfax reports on 11-25-07 (which was the Thanksgiving weekend). I thought I was purchasing unlimited 30 day reports and once I got the welcome email that said to enter a VIN you would like to run, so I entered the VIN from MY Mustang, thinking I had the unlimited service, then I realized I only had a single Carfax for $24.99. I immediately contacted Carfax and notified them of the issue. Since there is nobody you can call and talk to, I left a message via, their email messaging system. I then proceeded to buy the unlimited service for $29.99 through the email link that was sent to me in the welcome email, since I was trying to find a car over the weekend and I needed to run a report of a car I was going to look at the next day (Sunday). I ran MY Explorer that Sunday early morning after buying the unlimited, to see if it was accurate and the next morning I tried to run a car I was looking at on Ebay and it said my account was deactivated. Since I had no way to contact them, I again sent a message asking why my account was deactivated after running ONE report and to issue me a refund, as their site claims satisfaction guaranteed and I was far from satisfied! I got a response back Tuesday (2 days after I emailed them) saying they don't allow dealers to use this service - basically insinuating I was a dealer and using their service against their rules. Then Thursday I get a message stating, "Your 30 day unlimited account was deactivated for commercial use. Commercial use is a violation of our Customer Agreement and is grounds for deactivation and denial of a refund. On the website it states any activity that Carfax deems commercial use is ground for deactivation and no refund will be given." Isn't that convenient? I assume that since I ordered ONE Carfax during the Thanksgiving weekend, that constitutes my being a dealer or commercial user?
Other than having to use my valuable time and get on the phone with my credit card to dispute the charges, I was able to use their competitor (Auto-check) and get the VIN reports I needed and actually ran 4 or so that first day without interruption. I am awaiting the outcome of the credit card dispute.

I recently bought an 2005 Pontiac GTO from carmax on the July 13,2007 and about 1 week after that the car started to make a ticking nosie from the motor, So I went back to Carmax about the problem, and they gave the car back with the car not fixed. One and a half weeks later I went back to carmax for the same ticking and a front-end nosie, They put 2 new tires on the front of the car, but still did not fix the ticking. So about one week later on August 14 2007 they sent the car to a local dealership to check the engine tick. I recevied the car back on the August 16 2007 and noticed that they had put 82 miles on a test drive ran all of my gas out and not to mention I had to get gas from carmax to make it to the gas station, about 30 min to an hour later the transmission went out.
So on August 17 2007 at 7:15 A.M. i was at Carmax telling them about the problem and it was util August 30 2007 before the car was finished then the called to tell me that the car was leaking transmission fluid and i needed it go go to the beach in for Laborday weekend. I came back from the beach early to pick the car up on september 3 2007......I didnt even get to drive it out of the parking lot because the car was making a loud screeming from the engine so they sent the car back the next day to the GM dealership.
So on September 4 2007 I left work early around 6:00 PM to pick the car up Because they said that all was good with the car and ready to go, But as soon as i got about 2-4 miles down the road the transmission fell out again and they are telling me that the car wont be finished until September 10 2007, Iam on my 3rd rental car and nexted Tuesday will be 4 weeks that they have had my car for the same thing..........So i hope you can please help me

Ordered the Carfax report and was guaranteed money back if not satisfied. Report was not as all helpful. Have requested a refund and have not had a reply from Carfax as of yet.

Carfax promises a refund of the $19.95 it costs to run a report if not fully satisfied. The criteria is that one must make the refund request within 2 months of the report, and one cannot make more than 2 requests for a report and ask for a refund. Like another on your site, I found the report of little use and requested a refund. First of all, simply finding out on their site how to get the refund is a chore. But I persevered. You are then requested to go to the "my questions" section of the customer help page.
I have now requested a refund three times. When going back to that page, it shows that the site has no record of my question being asked. Nor have I heard anything from them despite emails to carfax itself. I think this is absolute fraud, as they charged my Credit Card straight away and then don't honor their claim once the refund is requested.
I appear to have spent $19.95 for a report that was of no help. Not a huge deal, however - it absolutely enrages me that a company of this stature, who probably gets lots of people to get reports based on the money-back guarantee, doesn't honor that claim.
