TXUs disrespectful auto-pay policy is the reason I am leaving them after 6 years. My card was compromised and subsequently deactivated, the next day TXU tried to submit an auto payment and it didn't go through. They sent me an email saying the auto pay failed and they will charge me $25 extra on my next bill. No warning, no grace period like YouTube did, just you owe us more money because the computer couldn't collect your payment on our time frame. My contact ends in 2 weeks, I was going to renew but have decided to leave due to this disrespectful behavior.

I recently had my roof replaced requiring a temporary shutoff. When I scheduled the temporary shutoff, TXU generated both a temporary and permanent shutoff, causing Oncor to take my meter and never return. I tried several times to work this out with TXU, as Oncor cannot act without TXU interaction and scheduling. Very long story short, I was left without power overnight and as a result in my salt water aquarium that was full of corals many years old are or mostly dead. This was an error on TXU side and I am unable to get any attention to remedy this issue. Will be looking for a new provider ASAP and a means to further hold TXU accountable.

The excuse they told me was I had one more day in July and it was hotter outside. I think they just increased my bill according to the temperature outside. I am in vacation in CA. TXU sent me a bill for over $400.00 dollars since I broke a contract with them when I only had about 4 months left on my contract. When I had my solar installed I did not think about this. I am on a fixed income since I am 81 years old. I received an email telling me that I have been reported to the CREDIT dept for non-payment. Who can I call to help me. TXU manipulated and lied about plans, billing, prices per kilo. We always averaged a little over $180 per month and right out of the box TXU sends us a $446.00 bill and then said our plan was for 19 cents a kilo because weather change. $ 446.00 per mo was nowhere to be found in our subdivision and after researching TXU we found they pull this constantly. Now they corrected that bill to $568.86 cents after I challenged them. TXU ENERGY is to be avoided. The TDU charges that appear on my monthly energy bill are ridiculous. I am with TXU and I get free nights from 8pm - 5am. Although, I use small amounts during the day, my contract says that I am supposed to be billed $.012 per KWH, instead I am billed $0.17 per KWH... The TXU rep tried to explain it but it still does not compute.
Not only that, but the TDU charges sometimes add an additional $100 to my bill at $0.14 per KWH. One month, my actual bill was $118, with a TDU fee of $89. How does that make sense to the average consumer? How do you make a $118 bill into $200? They tried to say it was due to my usage, but I have had the same plan since I have had TXU and did way more laundry then than now. These predatory rates and fees are ridiculous for the average consumer. TXU states that even though I am getting free nights that I am billed $.0.14 TDU charge each month. How are we supposed to adequately manage our energy bills if we have all these hidden fees and charges. This should be against the law. I have been with TXU over 5 years, and prior to that winter storm, my average bill rarely exceeded $100. Now, to get a bill nearly $358 that was actually $178 before taxes, and TDU charge is a predatory.

The free nights promo and $300 refund were enticing. I may have missed it but the TXU promise of $300 gift card was not explained well. Once I signed up I expected rates to go up. But they seemed awfully high. As a consolation, I figured I’d balance some of the increase against the ‘refund’. I then find out (after annoying multiple calls and transfers) it is to be paid in two installments and it is befuddling, hard to get a clear answer on how the refund works. I received confusing emails and eventually get half of the promised $300. In trying to learn about the other $150 I am eventually forwarded to the vendor of the gift card and told it will be made available sometime well in the future. No clarity and no interest in my claim that this should have been made clear or ‘made right’.
I expected TXU to be a well-run and honest provider. My waits on hold and continual runaround to get answers on a simple, highly advertised promotion, and lastly just no seeming interest in fairness —a ‘just doing what I’m told to do attitude’ leaves me feeling duped. I cannot recommend TXU. I was suckered by their ads. I’ll be a better shopper in the future by checking sites like CONSUMER AFFAIRS. Sorely disappointed.

I had been with TXU as a loyal customer for quite some time. Always paid my monthly bill in full and always early. I even promoted this company to family and friends. I renewed my contact with them in July 2022, and shortly thereafter I noticed what appeared to be overcharges on my bill going back several years. When I tried to address this issue with the company, I could get no one to communicate with me. So, I decided to switch electric providers because I had been told that there would be no early termination fee given my history with the company.
After I switch, TXU initially contacted me wanting to know if I had switch. I told them I had. They then tried to convince me to switch back, but I declined. Ever since then I have been subjected to a barrage of harassing phone calls and emails insisting that I pay them an early termination fee, despite the fact that they promised me when I renewed that there would be no fee. CLEARLY, THIS COMPANY DOES NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND NOR APPRECIATE THE VALUE OF GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Even if I am wrong, they would insist that my paying a $295.00 early termination fee is more important than the good reputation of the company name. JEERS TO YOU TXU.

After sending them the required documents, they had a supervisor say she would credit me back my $500 deposit. Now they refuse to give it back until after 12 months of payments. I called them like ten times to explain me why are they charging me that much since I have solar panels but they keep telling me that I used a lot of electricity at night and the only thing that is on at night is the AC and I always have it at 75 degrees. I think they are selling me my own electricity because on the electricity bill doesn’t say nothing about how many kilowatts they deduct from the solar panels. She kept insisting I still owed money on my old account from my previous address and it had rolled over to my new account. They made several mistakes, keep changing my smart meter actual readings (3 times on 3 past bills, 2 times on 2 past bills & charged double on invoice, my dashboard daily usage/cost shows correct info, but doesn't matter). How can any customer trust the invoice, if TXU can change any information, any time, as many times, after paying & get by with this? I live in an apartment, Centerpoint replaced smart meter on same day I move in. The old Meter ID was on 2 future invoices, stating Actual readings, changes several times. Crooks! Liars! Thieves! I don't know how this company gets away with this. I hope I had read the reviews before I got in this contract. I called a few months ago to discuss the bill and they said they were going to send someone to check the meter. No one came. Please do not use TXU Energy. This is by far the worst power company I have ever been with. Now granted I do owe a bill and it is high. But I have entered into more than one agreement (payment plan) that had been sat up by the president of the company only to have a disconnect notice sent to my email 1 week after agreeing to the payment plan....I was not behind on the payment plan, in fact I had just sat it up July 23 2020. On July 31 2020 I had a disconnect in my email...confused and angry I called TXU and explained that that the payment plan was just sat up and the customer service agent stated that I had broke it by not making a payment (Payment was not due until the 23 of august 2020). When I told him I had not broke it, he laughed and said, "Let me see what I can do to keep the power on for you."
He was rude and tried his best to control the conversation which does not sit well with me, so I hung up and called back to get a new agent, which was a female, but just as bad... She tried to tell me that I had not made my agreed payment last week (The same day I sat up the payment plan) which I did pay that same day. Then she said.. "Oh!! I see you did pay it..but now we need a bigger payment." I lost my temper and told her to get the company president on the phone (Connie). When Connie at the president's office answered she pretended that she never spoke to me just last week, even though I told her word for word what had been said and how I had ended up setting the agreed upon payment up through ROBERT who also is in the president's office... there was nothing wrote up outside that I had made the payment, no agreement was made,.. so today July 31 2020 I made a new (Same as the last agreement) agreement..
Then asked what if I send in weekly payments since I get paid every week? CONNIE at the president's office said NOT to do that as that would end my agreement and my power would be turned off for breaking the contract!!!! So just save the money and pay them once a month.... but do not be late or the power will be turned off. By paying once a week it would not pay on my bill..it would just give me a credit and not pay anything to the bill??? This company is a scam, they need to have lawsuits against them and be forced to close their doors.

I suspected being overcharged. We travel a couple times a year for at least 1 week at a time. One time I set the thermostat for 90...so not to burn the house in heat, but not waste cooling costs. Came back - thermostat had "reprogrammed" itself to 62 across the board and higher bill. I replaced thermostat and set it for 77. Wake up during night - and its reset to 60's or low 70's. Last time traveled for 10 days - I shut off breakers and unplugged in rooms that required breaker to stay on (kitchen for fridge, patio lights, etc). No bill reduction, BUT...days later - TXU showed up saying they see a problem (from their office) on my meter, it was recording lower than normal usage and they assumed I was tampering with it.
Told the guy what's been happening - he suggests someone stealing my electric maybe, but he "reset" the meter outside. NO significant bill difference. I am now traveling again. Been gone 8 days now. Looked at usage...according to TXU - I have already used 8% more electric in these first few days of July than I did in June. HOW? No one is home. I did not shut the breaker this time, but everything is unplugged and the Thermostat is set to be completely OFF (to avoid the remote adjustments to settings by whomever.) I am now out of town again.
In looking - I'm also seeing a pattern of almost double usage on a particular day each week. Since everyone is off on weekends - I can't really argue that definitively. But with the other 2 residents working 12 hr shifts Monday-Fri (Overnight), how is it I have this high usage like on weekends when everyone is home (mostly sleeping, but they are home)? How is it that there this high usage overnight when only 1 person is home - and that person keeps A/C high as she is cold natured.
I will continue to monitor and will eventually prove definitively TXU is overcharging. We cannot keep having same or higher usage after we've traveled for 7-14 days in a month. That's just plain impossible unless the washer, dryer, TVs, radios, etc...all plug in and start running themselves. I believe TXU is guesstimating my bill based on average customers...but with 2 cold-natured people - we don't burn the air like everyone else. Never have. I also find it odd that suddenly thermostats keep resetting themselves.
And to top it off - the room with most electronics is suddenly having flickers and having to switch the breaker. Even the Surge protectors and backup power units show bad electricity/faults coming into the residence. The TXU rep that came to the home said there's basically nothing I can do, unless I "catch" someone obviously stealing electricity... It's on me, as they see and manage everything remotely and nothing is "wrong enough" for them to investigate anything.

I had asked them to keep the electricity on until a certain date so that we could go clean the apartment after we emptied it, which they did. After the electricity was cut off, the electricity to my new house was cut off shortly after.
I anxiously called customer service to see what was going on because I have small children and animals at home and the summers in Texas reach 110 outside. The service representative explained to me that they have notes that say I ordered them to turn off my house's electricity, not my apartment. I said that's incorrect and I need my service back on. He said that the company refuses to turn it back on unless I pay another deposit and that they will need to listen to all of my previous phone calls because the notes insinuate that I am lying. I asked him to then cancel my service because I am disgusted at the way he was speaking to me and he said that's fine he will.
So now... in July of 2019 I have received a bill over $400. I call and ask why am I still being billed for services? The girl on the phone states I still have an active account and there is high electricity usage at my old apartment. The right thing of course for a company to do, would of course be to review the notes, see that this is not electricity that I used because I requested cancellation on a recorded call. I lived in a two bedroom house in Nebraska before moving to Texas and my monthly electric bill would be around $60 in the peak of winter (heater constantly running).
With TXU, I chose the Solar Day/Free Nights for the last year with them and my bill would average around $130 (1,200 kilowatt hours average), which TXU says is below average. HA! So when it came time to renew TXU gave me a warm fuzzy about how great I am, helped me find more suitable plan. Well, whammy! The first month of my new plan, which they said will lower my bill to under $100 with the same usage increased it by $40 ($168). I read that bill, found the usage was roughly the same (1,300 kilowatt hours) and I was in shock.

My lights were disconnected today Tuesday May 29, 2018. I had spoken to a representative last Friday, I had extended my payment for Friday, unfortunately I could not make a payment, because I did not get paid because of the Memorial Day, so I was hoping that they would be on for Tuesday May 29, they did turn my lights out on Tuesday, I could not believe that as HOT HOT HOT as it was and I have children at home, not happy... I pay my bill and it takes them hours to turn it back. They turned off the lights early 8:00 and here it's now after 7:30 and my lights are still OFF. I you guys are happy. I will not be using you guys again.

Never listed on my bill was the fact I was being charged commercial delivery rates. I had no idea this is why, since 2012 I have had such a huge utility bill. My husband has reached out to be reimbursed and we have gotten nowhere. Just in the past two years, an average of $200 too much a month!! May not seem a lot to you, it sure is to me. Here's what happened as a result. I worked 18 hour days trying to keep up with our expenses all this time... Took out payday loans to keep everyone fed - 7 kids!!!! One of them is disabled from a rare congenital heart defect!!!!
I would sleep behind a building so I could get up real early and start work so I could make money just to stay afloat. This money and the interest associated with all these payday loans because of you people would have meant I had money to go home and sleep, hug my kids... to take a shower even. You people have acknowledged the mistake. Talk to Cecilla. My husband keeps calling... he actually believes you will fix this. I know better. Convince me I'm wrong.

I have been with TXU for several years, and recently changed plans from 10.5¢ to 7.5¢. So... My bill tripled. Last year I paid an average of $95 per month. There have been no significant changes in the past months. Also, I get that this past winter was cold, but we didn't go into an ice age. So I received a bill for over $300 for my little 1400 SF house. I called customer service and could barely understand the agent. I asked for a supervisor, whose English was also very difficult to understand. She talked around in circles about "Averaged Billing" which somehow averages some bills to $300 and some to $95 within the same year(???).
AND the remaining 8 months average $100 dollars then the monthly bill you will receive is for $300 dollars. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but WHAT KIND OF MATH ARE THEY USING!!! If the average for 4 months is $400, that's $1600. If the average for the other 8 months is $100, that's $800. 1600+800=2400. Therefore
2400÷12 (months) = 200!!! They are charging me an extra $100 a month!! That's $1200 overcharge a year!!!
When I pointed out to the (supervisor) that this math simply didn't add up, he became very passive aggressive and suggested that since I could understand the billing system then he could discount $50 from my bill. I guess I got a gold star. So I got a discount, but the billing is still a scam and their math is still something even NASA cannot explain. Can anyone recommend a better company?

I received a bill for 660 bucks. My bill always ran around 100 a month. I saw they read my meter at over 3000 kW/h. This could have been possible because it was winter. However, I was placed on the highest plan available without my knowledge. I was on a 15¢ per kW and after 1000 it goes up to 19¢ per kW/h. They refused to work anything out with me and when I complained to TDU, all they said was applied online for this plan. That is totally untrue because I NEVER even knew I could switch my plan. I was very happy with the plan I had. This company will cut off a person's lights and not even give a second thought when they lied. POWERTOCHOOSE.ORG! You do NOT have to take it! I switched to a new provider and told TXU buh bye!!! Please follow me.

Had a 1064.00 bill and did not realize my heat pump was out until the bills came rolling in. Immediately had the problem fixed and began writing letters and calling TXU. Time after time they had great ideas as to how to lower my bill to half because my bill was averaged. I was railroaded into the 6.5/kwt plan with the promise my bill would be about 300.00 the next month. Well, when the bill came in it was 4.00 less than the previous month. (464.00) Again letters were written and more customer service reps that "we're going to get this fixed after they talked to their supervisor." The latest call to them was yesterday and I requested to be removed from average billing and was assured one more time my bill would be lowered after the supervisor reviewed it and I would get a callback. No CALLBACK AS USUAL.
Today, looked online and now my bill is 964.00 due yesterday! The bill is not even due till 5/01. Another call and still no callback. I have even sent a letter to cooperate with no response except to call customer service. I feel like I am talking to a third world country. Extremely if not impossible to understand these people. My husband is a 100% service connected veteran and resides in a VA home now for 5 years. Can't make them understand that I cannot pay this kind of bill. Guess if I were on Medicaid and food stamps might get some help. Not looking for pity or charity but come on TXU. HELP A DISABLED VET OUT. Disabled since 1965 should have some weight for a one time plea for help. I might add, I have been a TXU customer for over 31 years.

We recently moved at the beginning of the year. eOur bills in a drafty trailer were on average 150 a month. My bills thus far this year in the new house for just 3 months has been over $1,000. We had a lot of cold weather. Maybe that was it. Then, this month, we used only 1170 kwh. My bill was still almost $300!! Because the TDU is $175. I kid you not. What happened to $3.49 base and 3.5 cents a kwh added on? By the pricing I was led to believe, we should have used close to 5000 kwh! What's the point of lowering our usage if the TDU costs are still overreaching? I used to love your company. Did business with y'all for nearly 6 yrs. But this is wrong. I am a single mother. Y'all are taking advantage of us.

After my uncle passed away I contacted them to inform them it would be a couple months before I was able to have access to his funds to pay his account. I show up a month later to start cleaning the house and there's no power, it's a Saturday and I'm from out of state. I call to get the power turned back on and they said they see that I called but because I wasn't an authorized person on the account they couldn't do anything with my notification and the account was cancelled and in order to get power back on they required I open an account with them. Having no other options I did that.
I finally get access to the online account and they read the meter less than a week after opening the account so that they could charge me delivery fees, etc. which was more than what the usage amount was for, and they've tacked on a late charge because they didn't put the right billing address in the system and I was unaware they would bill me a week after opening an account. If I had an option I'd look elsewhere and stay as far away from TXU as possible.

I'm currently living in an apartment in NRH, TX. I have not been in my apartment for the last two months. I've moved out of state. My lease will be up in another month. So my heating/a.c. has been off for three months now. Please turn down the TXU/Oncor average billing plan. Just say no. If your usage is for only 67.00. They'll tack on additional charges to your bill. Your bill will now be around 180.00. They'll send a visa card of roughly 65.00. This was your savings for the entire year with average billing. Eye roll. You will not save anything. Average billing is a joke. Save yourself some trouble and shop around. Talk to your surrounding neighbors before you make any commitments to any electric company's yearly contracts. Thankfully I have only one more month to go. Then this ridiculous average billing contract will be done.

Paid $528 for one month in Texas on 1400 sqft house - TXU without my written or verbal consent changed my plan to a month to month plan after my 12 month plan expired (I have been a customer for 4 years now). The rates were astronomical but I did not notice because I have Autopay (never have missed a payment with them). After spending over an hour on the phone with them and being treated condescendingly, I decided to cut my losses and not support this scam of a company.

I wish I had read the reviews on TXU before signing up with them because I have never paid so much for electricity in my life as I did with this company. I firmly believe that TXU was scamming me the entire time but have no way to prove it. My electricity through TXU cost me 3 times what I paid at my previous home (which was twice the size of my current home, and older). Of course it's my word against theirs and the only true way is to have a third party monitor my usage and compare to what they are claiming. My intuition says they were scamming me and I'm hardly ever wrong. Green Mountain is a better choice.

My widowed Mother is 87 yrs old and living on $700 a month social security. During the winter she runs space heaters to keep warm. She spends a lot of time in bed covered up with a heater on to try to keep warm. This runs up her bill to where she cannot pay the entire amount, and she gets behind. She gets financial aid from the church when available. And she wanted to set up a deferred payment plan, but was denied until the check from the church arrived. Her cut off date is the 22 of Feb 2018. I think TXU should be ashamed to be so impatient with a little 87 yr old lady that is doing her best to make current her bill. If they are willing to leave a little old widow lady sitting in the dark and cold, because the check did not arrive in time, they deserve to be turned into Consumer Protection. No one at TXU shows any willingness to compromise and let her set up payments or extend the date one or two days. They are a crapy co.

I have used this company over 15 years and it is the worst company now I have ever dealt with. I noticed my bill had doubled and finally figured out that the charge double to borrow energy on my bill. My bill for energy was $100 and a loan from another energy company was $100. They don’t tell you that when you agree on the phone to a certain kilowatt. How is this not discussed. Then when you call you will go from India speaking, to European, to Spanish. They do not comprehend that this is deceptive thinking. It is an American electric company. Then you after telling 5 different people all 5 different people my information, the manager is ruder than all the rest. I am appalled that this company is in business if they have to outsource ALL their services. This should be know, that all their services come with a con. The company doesn’t own the electric part of the business and you will never talk with an American to discuss your issues. Is this legal?

My credit score is almost 800. I have 13 lines of perfect credit. Never a late payment. They told me if I can get a company to verify perfect payments... i.e. credit card company, they would waive the $460 fee. Within 5 minutes DISCOVER emailed and faxed info to TXU and cc me on email. Okay service was suppose to be switched over at that moment. Since I am renting for a close friend, a month later, no bill. I call and they never switched service. Was rude to me and then I got a note in mail a day later stating my extended view score was a 600. I work in credit selling homes. I have never heard this score before. After looking it up, it is for people that have not had credit before. What, how can I have a great score with perfect payments and not get 0 down on my electric startup service? Another company had me changed over within 5 minutes at 0 down! Read your reviews! This company has a 1 star rating for a reason!

I opened a service with them last December, and they were offering me a 500 gift card and they have a refer a friend program that offered 50 dls for you and 50 dls for the person you refer. When I opened my service they had offered me a 7 cents a KWH and the 500 dls which the first 250 were going to be send to me after the first month of service, and the other at the completion of my contract of 12 months of service with them. I got the first one for 250 dls the first month, bit before that I had changed my plan when I referred my stepdad to TXU because they offered him 6 cents per kwh but they told me that my promotion wasn't changing at all for my 500 dls.
So after a month I did received my first 250 dls and a few months later they send me another card which it was for 250 instead of the 50 dls for referring my stepdad, so I did call them up to advised them about the mistake so they cancelled that card and they sent me another one for the difference of a purchase that I made which was for only 5 dls. I will provide you with that card since I have it with me, and after a few more months I called because I referred my sister to them also but they also lied to her telling her that she was going to receive 400 dls for her promotion plan and the 50 from me since I referred her also.
When I call them to check the status on that they told me that they where going to look into it and they will give me a 50 dls credit on the account since I never received that second 50 dls card for referring her to TXU, so when I got my 12 months I called them up to let them know that I never received my card for 250 dls and that my plan was going to end that month. The representative mentioned to me that my plan ended on March which I didn't know why he was saying that, so I explained to him about the issues with the promotions and he said that they were going to open an investigation. They were saying that supposedly I changed the plan in the middle of the promotion so I requested the recordings from that day when they said I changed my plan, but since they are a bunch of liars they didn't provide me with that information either to me or BBB when I filed a complain with them.
They were saying that because I changed the plan I didn't qualified to receive my last 250 dls, which was a total lie because they also didn't provide the tracking numbers for the cards that they sent me to that office either. I guess that if that is the way they treat Veteran's and customers since they have such a low rating for their service, which the worst is their customer service representatives which are very unprofessional and rude. I probably won't get my money from them, but I want to make sure that people are aware of the horrible customer service and their fraudulent promotions that they runned at that electric company. It is really upsetting having to report them with all of this agencies, but I don't think is fair to my sister that has being with them almost a year and she never received her 400 dls for the plan and the 50 dls for me referring her either as myself my 250 dls promised at the end of the 12 months.
For last I had requested for many months from them to add my sister's name to the bill since she was living with me and months passed and they never did, even thought I spoke to many representatives and I filed many complaints about them. They all said to me that it was going to be taking care of even when I talked to managers, but it is really easy now to understand why the regular representatives have such a bad customer service. I only had one bill that showed my sister added to the bill, but all the rest of my bills have come again without her name on it so it is really ridiculous that they still have this company running and not closed for all the bad service that they provide to customers.

Spent 2hours 15minutes going through 5 with customer service representatives (who in addition to being quite arrogant, also speak in a non-clear English) trying to figure out how I can get daily usage for the month. 3 of representatives admitted having the same problem of not being able to see the data, 4th one first said that he couldn't see it either, then later when he could he said something on the lines of "it is your problem that you can't see it". When I asked him to send it to me via e-mail or regular mail he said that he can't do it.
Spent another hour with his supervisor (very polite person) who was quite unprofessional in terms of taking an hour of my time to check their system problems instead of admitting the existence of the problem and finding a solution on their own time. After all the time spent I still don't have the information and only hoping that the "special ticket" he submitted will be resolved in the next 2 business days. P.S. Have the whole call recorded for anyone deciding to use their "services" or for TXU team of HR/Customer Service to provide some better training of how NOT TO DO things!
