Michelin Tires works good in snow. It also has good tire wear on my Land Cruiser, but not good wear on my Tundra and may have something to do with limited slip differential. I've had them for 77,000, but on my 3rd set, they did honor tire warranty.

The Michelin Primacy MXM4 has a high rating and great ride. It handles very well all kinds of weather. Michelin has a great guarantee. If for any reason you are not happy in the first 30 days you can go back to the store where they were purchased and they will pay to have other tires installed including balancing. The amazing part is you can even select another brand.

I purchased 4 Michelin Primacy tires in November 2015. In April I took the car to get service, and found that two of the tires had sidewall issues, and needed to be replaced. I contacted the place I purchased the tires and filed a claim for supposed road hazard damage. At the time I chalked it up to a possible road hazard, even though I had not hit anything with the tires. In September, we had yet again another sidewall issue, and again the supplier of the tires stated it was a road hazard. At that time, I had three newer tires and one older tire, so I replaced the two remaining tires.

Now I have a softball size bubble in my front passenger tire yet again! Let me preface this by saying, I have never in my life had a bubble in any tire, even cheap ones until I had these Michelin Primacy tires! So I contact the supplier yet again, and they want me to do yet again another road hazard claim. This is 4 Tires from April of 2016 to December of 2016. This is not normal, and these tires are not only poorly made but dangerous! I contacted Michelin today and I was basically blown off because they are stating that these were road hazard claims and it was due to hitting something. Tires should not blow out a sidewall for hitting small potholes. If I hit something against the sidewall I would understand that it would cause this type of issue.

If you are considering buying Michelin Primacy tires... DON'T! I don't know if I will ever buy Michelin tires again after the issues I had, let alone their terrible customer service. If they are pumping out tires that cannot withstand normal driving conditions in upstate NY then I don't feel safe driving with the tires they produce. I simply wanted them to get me into different style tire until I can afford a new set of anything else. After some research, I found that Michelin has numerous complaints on Better Business Bureau and large majority of these complaints they were able to wiggle out of without compensating for their poorly made tires.

There are also many message boards which explain the same type of sidewall issues that I have experienced. If I can save one person from wasting their money on these poor tires, this review was 100% worth it. A large company like Michelin should put their money where their mouth is, and stand behind their product, or be held accountable for the poor quality, and putting lives in danger.

I bought my 2015 Toyota Venza fall of 2015, in November. I am the first and only owner. I had Michelin Latitude Tour tires on car at purchase. # 2455020 as car is an all wheel drive. I was driving from Kansas City moving to Colorado on I 70W on December 27th. I experienced a blow out of the back driver's side tire. I was traveling 70 MPH. There was a loud boom and a thud and my car was shaking.

I was able to pull to the side of the interstate and slowed down immediately. I smelled rubber burning. It was pitch dark and I got out with a 4 inch flashlight and saw that the tire was torn up really, with gashes all along each side. Took one hour and 15 minutes for the tow truck to arrive and I Sat with semi-trucks racing past me. Some did go to the left lane, about half stayed in right lane. I had on my emergency flashers. I had called Geico my car insurance company to help me. My car was full of everything as I was moving and the tow driver and myself had to pull out every item that inhibited him from getting to the spare tire. All that stuff was placed on the exit lane I was sitting on.

Today I visited the Larry H Miller Toyota dealership in Boulder Colorado, the service manager had my tire examined today and informed me that inspection could not prove what happened to the tire. There were however no foreign items found in the tire. He faulted me and said I had driven on a flat tire and tire tore up. I had 16,500 miles on the tire. I had in late November had my 5000 miles maintenance check with Legends Toyota in Kansas City. At that time tires were rotated and pressure checked. Car was at 14,900 at time of maintenance check. The service manager today informed that Toyota was not responsible for the tires, and there was no warranty on them for sure. Also the Michelin Latitude tire was not being produced anymore and he could offer me no service except to sell me four brand new tires.

I called several tire distributors and was told that indeed the Latitude tire was still being produced but was out of stock at most warehouses. The tire I was told is large and not in demand really. I asked the manager to do better and replace the tire at no cost but he refused to admit any warranty. I found one at the Tire Warehouse online and one is being shipped me to arrive next Thursday, January 5th. I will be driving for over a week on a spare tire. I continue to ride on the spare which all tire distributors advised is not safe.

I am single and have one car. I am certain that the tire was defective due to fact regular maintenance was done routinely and tire pressure was checked and tires rotated each 5000 miles. The tire disintegrated and sounded like an explosion went off. I could have been killed by the way. I am requesting reimbursement for my cost to have to purchase the tire myself and that the Toyota dealer did not stand behind the tires nor did he help me and denied any defect of the Michelin product!!!

Horrible Michelin tires and retailer. The retailer should have replaced tires right after I said I had an issue with tire noise, but strung me along for 8 months. The warranty is useless even with complaining right away. Complaint Description: I visited Cedar Tire (Tireland) 8 times with the same problems and concerns. Not once in those 8 visits did they admit to a problem. Cedar Tire (Tireland) in Nanaimo has the slogan "it's worth the drive". I can assure you in no means is this true. This has been my worst experience with any business in 46 years. Once they have your money you are on your own. This was stated to me by the owner today December 19, 2016 (his exact analogy was once you buy the tires it's like ducklings leaving the pond - you're on your own). This was the worst experience ever.

I have 2012 VW with about 60,000 km on it and still under warranty. The original tires still had some life in them, and had no irregular tire wear, but wanted snow tires for the winter. But because here M/S are equal to just "snow" tires, it made more sense to me to just replace with new M/S than to have two sets of tires. The price was the same as everywhere. The tires were Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 91v bsw 225/45r17 - definitely not cheap tires.

The tires were noisy from the beginning but nothing major because why would Cedar Tire recommend them? The noise got worst but it sounded to be more like a wheel bearing (I have a co-worker with the same car but a 2013 and he already had to replace wheel bearings). VW replaced the wheel bearing but the noise continued. They then replaced the other side. This did not fix the problem and was told by VW that it is a tire noise (the Tires even looked as new as they were though). I took it right to Cedar Tire and told them this, and they rotated the tires (well under 10,000 km) and said there was nothing wrong with the tires. I left and the noise continued.

I brought it back to Cedar Tire within weeks and asked for them to please check the tires again. They checked the tires and said there was nothing wrong with them. The one tire guy (that works in the shop was super nice and even took it for a drive and said he definitely can hear the noise - but can not find any visible defects in the tires so they can not do anything). They sent me on my way unhappy, and saying their product was safe and there were no problems with my tires. Please note that never once did these tire experts say or make any comments that these tires were wearing unevenly etc. So I left again with Cedar Tire giving me no explanation as to what was going on, yet they confirmed there was excessive tire noise. By this time I was pissed.

My car was under warranty with VW, and they are not shy about fixing anything under warranty, or billing me for anything outside of the warranty. All they said was if it was broke they would fix it under warranty or not, but your new tires were the reason for the excessive noise. I drove the car as little as possible because the noise would drive me nuts. When I was finally fed up I took the car to a well known VW Mechanic (not the dealership) in the area to see if it was something mechanical. He said he checked everything out and it was nothing mechanical, and the noise is definitely from the tires.

So once again I drove to Cedar Tire. The tire guy came out and looked at the tires and said there was nothing wrong with the tires. I told him exactly what the mechanic had just told me. So this tire guy started to blame the make and model of the car. After bickering with him, he re-inspected my tires and "WOW', now suddenly my tires out of no where my tires have "Uneven Tire Wear and Cupping, and are at the Wear Bar, and that is the reason for the noise".

Five minutes before that he was trying to send me off again saying there was nothing wrong with my tires. How in the world do tires go from there is nothing wrong with them and letting the customer drive off to suddenly everything is wrong with the tires, and you need new tires. Now Cedar Tire says it's my fault, the mechanics fault but not their's. I tried to have Cedar Tire on multiple visits to resolve this problem (been there 8X). On this last visit my tires went from nothing wrong with them to you need new tires. These Tires have well less than 15,000 km. This shop is pathetic. Never again!!!

Your Desired Resolution: They claim to be tire experts. I went to this business 8 times, and in any of those 8 visits this could have been avoided or fixed. Tires do not go from nothing wrong with them to need replacing in 5 minutes. I repeatedly brought to Cedar Tires attention the fact that I was having problems with these tires. Each and every time they told me there was nothing wrong and sent me on my way. But then suddenly my tires need replacing in less than 15,000 km? My tires never got to the point they did over night, that is a fact. I had repeatedly brought these tires to them for inspection, and never once did they mention any noticeable problems with the tires while inspecting them, or rotating them.

You buy tires from a 'Tire Shop" because you expect them to be Experts with tires and all issues tire related. This is the stereo-typical type of service you would expect from buying tires from somewhere like Walmart. I did not buy tires from a place like Walmart because I wanted the Expertise and Service you are suppose to get from a Tire Specialist like Cedar Tire (Tireland). The owner talks a great talk but Cedar Tire (Tireland) has given me the run a round for 8 months on the same issue. Never once on any of these prior 8 visits did this so called Tire Expert give me any kind of Expert, or even Courteous help or resolution to this persistent tire issue. They literally passed the buck for 8 months.

No matter what the cause of the tire issues was, in none of my complaints, and bringing in of the tires for inspection did Tireland ever offer helpful, professional, or preventive advice. They actually told me there was nothing wrong, right up to 5 minutes before my tires suddenly became so bad they need replacement. Somewhere on anyone of these 8 prior visits to them they should have seen, noted, commented, or been aware of some issue with the tires. Tires do not wear out, or unevenly wear overnight. The fact is that on none of these prior 8 visits did they say or mention anything was wrong or unusual with these tires. Only after the last visit when I was once again told that the tires were good, but then after 5 minutes of me holding my ground and another inspection my tires were now suddenly cupped and at the wear bar, proves the inablity of this tire shop to professionally inspect tires.

I took my car for tires at Cedar Tire because they only sold tires and could expect the best service possible. I ended up with the worst service ever. They also gave me the run a round by not calling me back etc. Finally I catch up with the owner and I can tell you he is a piece of work. He has no explanation how his tire shop missed the problem with these tires over all these visits. But the most shocking thing is that he does not care that they did. He will not or can not explain to me how my tires went from nothing wrong with to need replacing in 5 minutes. What pisses me off the most is that once again, but this time in the ice and snow, they were sending me off saying nothing was wrong.

We don't put a lot of miles on our vehicles but like the performance and ride of Michelin tires on both our vehicles. Provide good control on wet or dry pavement. We have been using Michelin tires for decades even to the point of paying extra to trade in set of Bridgestone tires that came on a new vehicle because we did not care for the ride. We have never had a tire failure while using Michelin tires. Tires do not transmit too much road noise and provide good traction on wet or dry roads. Tire mileage is very close to what is expected. Over the years (60 years driving) have found Michelin tires to be the best for our driving habits. We have used Goodyear, Bridgestone, Firestone and some store brands but prefer Michelin especially for reliability and performance.

I bought a set of Michelin LTX tires for my 3/4 ton truck. The tires came with a 70,000 mile warranty and after several years I had 40,000 miles on the tires and they were worn out. The tires were down to 4, 5, 6 and 6 32nds of an inch of tread left. Michelin requires that all the tires be down to 4/32" to be eligible for the warranty but I live in northern Utah and we get a lot of snow and ice. The tires were unsafe to run in the winter conditions. I thought there would not be a problem because Michelin has been around forever and is a good company, right? I started calling and it is unbelievable how much or a run around they have given me.

First, the rep for the dealer would not submit the tire inspection report to Michelin to be processed. This literally went on for months and got to the point that after 4 months, the dealer said there was nothing he could do to make the rep do his job. So, I called Michelin again and had to get mad about the warranty. I got a copy of the inspection report and we agreed on Michelin paying me 36% of the $1183 I paid for the tires. That was 3 months ago and I have not seen a dime. I even purchased new Uniroyal tires (owned by Michelin) and sent them the tire invoice.

After 9 phone calls, they admitted to receiving the invoice but told me it would take 6 weeks to process it. I called yesterday to check on the progress and now they are telling me they don't have my new tire invoice. This was after two different people told me they had the invoice and it had been uploaded into their system. I still haven't given up, but wanted to warn anyone else about a terrible company that make poor products and then will not honor the warranty.

As explained to me, 6 years warranty was given to me. However, side wall of one of the tyre fixed on the rear side burst/torned due to some sharp object on 27th November 2016. After contacting the dealer regarding the poor quality of the tyres, I was given to understand that this is not covered by warranty and have to purchase a new tyre for the full value without any credit for the old burst tyre. I do not expect such a poor quality from a reputed brand like Michelin as my tyre didn't last for even one month as against the warranty of 6 years. He said..."I found your leak." Then he said...."You have more than one leak". Immediately, I thought... what is he talking about. He pushed about 20% of the tire into the water tank and bubbles started to appear. Small... very small. But not from one area, but about 5-6 different spots! He said the tire was disintegrating from within... spec. the cords. The tires only has about 33,000 miles on them. (This is a new Ford F-150 purchased last Dec.) Had to order a new tire. Totally unsafe.... 33,000 miles. This is not something I "ran over", but poor quality construction by Michelin.

They stated tires wore out, but would not honor warranty because I rotated the tires every 5k, not them. Poor excuse. They just lost a customer with three cars and one truck. We purchased the tires in Oct 2014 and the vehicle is put away winters. In August 2016, about 2500 miles after the 2nd rotation, wire showed on the inside. (Yes, Rotations and Alignment were done.) We had 13,000 miles on a 60,000 mile warranty. Our Garage said the tires were soft garbage and to have them replaced by Michelin due to the uneven wear so quickly .So I took them back to Dunn Tire where the Tires were purchased for 250.00 each, and they said Michelin wouldn't honor the warranty because they were OBVIOUSLY never rotated or aligned. Yet, I had receipts for both. Hmmm.

I am still fighting this, but so far getting nowhere. Michelin does NOT like to honor warranties and I WISH I would have seen these reviews BEFORE I spent 500.00 on CRAP! (We just purchased Firestone Firehawks for GTO at 120.00 each, and the car handles better than EVER.) Will NEVER purchase Michelin again, and will tell everyone I know not to also! My car only has on 4000 miles on these tires and the side walls are cracked to the point that they will fail inspection. I got a hold of Michelin and they will only give me a 35 percent credit on the tires which comes out to 47.20 on each tire.

I must replace them with defenders so out of pocket would cost me over 600.00 dollars (this is after their credit of 189.00). They are horrible. They wouldn't go with the tread of 6, only the 3s. What a damn rip off. This company should be sued. They should have a recall and replace their tires and have to pay for any damages that side wall blow outs have caused. So, I have to replace a set of tires that cost me about $750 that should have lasted me a whole lot longer than this. I've owned cars for 50 years and never experienced such tire problems. One day while driving at 55-60 mph the tread on the left rear tire unwound from the side walls on both sides. The tread wrapped around the axle housing, with the result that the wheel locked up and stopped turning. This caused the van to start to spin on the freeway. It was all I could do to maintain control. The photo shows what my tire and wheel looked like after the incident. One of the reasons I have always bought Michelin tires is so that these kinds of things won't happen. The tires would not pass inspection due to wear in June 2016. Be advised that the tires are 2 1/2 years old and the wear was even wear (see photo). The car is mostly driven on highways. The 90,000 mile warranty is only effective if you have receipts for tire rotation every 5,000 miles according to Mavis. The tires wore out at 53,000 miles. The original equipment tires lasted longer than that. Michelin mileage claims are definitely overstated and belong in the marketing baloney bin. By the way, does anyone have the time to have the tires rotated every 86 days or less? That requirement is a bogus way to avoid warranty obligations. Michelins are not worth the price.

Sears was the closest qualified warranty service for the Michelin tires. After approximately 1 hour time we were told that they would give us a credit of 45% or approximately $89 dollars per tire toward the purchase of 4 new Michelin tires. However we would have to get the car aligned at a cost of $89.99 and pay a whopping $115.00 labor to have the new tires installed. In the end it will cost us somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 + to get the new tires on the car. They will not give us the credit and let us choose a different type of tire which is what we wanted to do. Why would we want the same type of tire that only lasted 21,000 miles?

Both failures were not the result of striking a road hazard. The tire deflation light came on right away when the failures occurred. The failures did not result in a collision since they occurred at a speed of approximately 25 mph and there wasn't any traffic around.

The first failed tire was replaced with the same Michelin tire. My wife and I have both been driving 40+ years and I've never experienced a problem like this with any of my vehicles or with a Michelin tire in the past. The dealer said it was from a pot hole (although I don't remember hitting any large potholes) and paid for the repair. I called Michelin and they gave me 25% off the repair.

The second incident happen about 3 weeks later on the front driver's side. I had the car towed to the dealer because the car was unsafe to drive. This issue is still unresolved. However I did the following: Research online. I found hundreds of similar issue with Michelin tires. I've come to the conclusion the tires are defective and need to be removed from the road before someone gets killed, if it didn't happen already. Placed an incident with NHTSA, number **. Placed an incident with GM, number **.

The GM dealership and Michelin seemed unconcerned that the tire could cause serious injuries or death. The dealership said it was a pothole. Who gives them the right to assume how the problem happen. If a tire's sidewall is splitting at 2-3 years old with less than 30k miles then the tire is defective. It should handle a pothole. I believe, hypothetically Michelin's new process using sunflower oil is the problem. They use the sunflower oil to make the tire pliable. I believe after 2-3 years the tires are drying out and become brittle and making them more susceptible to splits and sidewall blowouts.

Sidewall blowout are one of the most dangerous occurrences that can happen while driving. Why is there not a class action suit or a recall for this problem. How many people have to die before something is done. It would be a miracle if something was done before a multitude of injuries and death. Although deaths don't seem to bother GM.

LUCKY TO BE ALIVE after sitting on the turnpike with semi's passing by. After several hours of sitting in the hot sun, I was able to have the tire changed to the spare. Contracting Michelin is a challenge, getting Michelin to comprehend the trauma that this experience has caused is a whole different matter. Michelin told me to have one of their authorized dealers get the tire for me and they would pay for it. So I did find a local dealer that ordered the tire and put it on the next day at my expense. Not what Michelin told me the prior day.

Both the car dealership and the authorized Michelin tire store both came to the same conclusion, the tire was defective, i.e. there was no evidence that the tire was punctured/cut or in any way compromised. When the tire blew it broke the cover of the rear wheel suspension, which is going to cost $200 to have replaced. As if this entire experience has not been traumatic enough, Michelin wants me to send them the tire so they can conduct an investigation. I am a 69 year old woman, need I say more about me moving a tire in and out of my car? I've invited Michelin to come to my garage to inspect the tire, I have nothing to hide, I am the victim. That offer does not seem to fit into their way of doing business.

Michelin will send me via the US Mail legal documents that will explain all the hoops that they want me to jump thru. But now winter is here and we have snow and ice, this is turning out to be the worst winter tire I have ever owned for winter traction. No traction at all. I can barely get moving on a sanded road without putting the truck in 4 wheel drive. I deeply regret buying these tires, but now I'm out over $700 and I guess I'm stuck with them and can't afford to throw them away and go buy new ones. The dealer balanced the tire/wheel assembly but it's still there. Very annoying and hard to pin down but since my 2015 Hyundai Genesis that has the same model tires and it had the same problem. BUT Hyundai replaced them all for free as per a campaign that is in place to address the issue. I don't know if Michelin is the one picking up the tab for Hyundai but I sure wish Nissan/Michelin would address it with my Altima. This is unacceptable - I thought I was buying the best tires - customers who spend the money to buy a superior product expect quality. Now Michelin is not using the sunflower product in production - obviously, if a change was made the product wasn't up to their quality. Now I can go to a dealer for inspection of the tires but I have to purchase new tires from this dealer if they determine the 'ozone cracking' warrants some sort of credit/replacement. So, I have a product that's no longer in production because it wasn't good enough for Michelin and now I have to go to a dealer for inspection and if warranted I will have to purchase the tires from them.

Tires were purchased in 2000, and by 2015 had 21,000 miles, with normal low treadwear. The outside sidewalls just fell apart, all had to be replaced. Inside sidewalls fine, manufacturing defects. The Suburban is normally garaged at Lake Tahoe, where the temp is between about 35 F and 70 F in the garage, with dry air. The warranty at the time of sale was unlimited time or when tread wears out i.e. less than 3/32" min tread depth. When I asked Michelin to replace the tires as the sidewalls just fell apart despite very low mileage, they refused, and quoted today's warranty. Refused to honor warranty which was sold with tires. I own a 2011 Ford F350 4X4 Crew Cab. It currently has 46,000 miles on it. It came with 20" wheels sporting the Michelin LTX M/S 2 (LT275 /65 R20 126R) tires. At 12,000 miles on the first set, I noticed cracking on the sidewalls of all four tires right next to the bead. I returned to the dealer and he referred me to the nearest Michelin dealer, America's Tire in Norco, CA. They inspected the tires, consulted with Michelin, and offered 75% replacement towards a new set. I thought that since the truck, although purchased new, had been on the dealer's lot for about six months sun damage might have caused this issue and took their offer. On my second set, which by the stamped code on the sidewall were less than six months old, the cracking began at about 13,000 miles. Back to America's Tire in Norco. They consulted with Michelin again, this time with Michelin saying that the tires were safe to drive. The cracking was not deemed to be a safety problem.

At 45,500 miles (roughly 33,000 miles on second set) further cracking is now appearing near the area where sidewall meets tread. The tires have over half the tread left on them and have worn excellently, except - the right front tire now has a large bulge in the middle of the tread. I discovered this after the truck had been parked for a month upon returning from a 4200 mile trip to Canada in late June. Luckily, after backing out of my driveway, when I started forward I felt a wobble in the tire. I thought maybe a tire had gone low, though none appeared low before I started. I parked and did a walk-around and found the bulge. The tire is ruined, but I am thankful it didn't happen during our trip.

After researching for reviews on tires I found this page. I would never have considered buying another set if I had seen these complaints. Michelin has an extremely dangerous problem with many of their tires because of the sidewall issues. I had driven commercial "big rigs" for several years, and sidewall issues are never taken lightly. Reading of this many issues makes me wonder why there has not been a class action suit against Michelin on this matter. They even have a recall on similar truck tires manufactured just after mine because "Affected tires could have partial or full sidewall perforations that could cause them to experience loss of air pressure." Sounds an awful lot like many of the complaints listed on this site. Count me out of the Michelin fan club and in on any action against them.

I have been buying tires from America's Tire for 15 years... for 4 cars. Michelin and their retailers do not understand what customer service means. Their adjustment is less than honest.

DONT BUY MICHELIN TIRES. In the last eight years, I've purchased six (6) sets of new Michelin tires from Discount Tire in Oceanside California (Plaza Drive Store). The most recent set of tires, for my 2010 Scion xB have been NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. The car pulls to the side and tire rotation every 5000 miles does NOT solve the problem. I've had the wheel alignment checked THREE TIMES and each time the dealer said it's perfectly in spec. Now, at 30,000 miles my Michelins that were supposed to last for 90,000 miles are worn to the point of being unsafe per Discount Tire.

Your regional rep would not warranty them tire despite the fact that the problem is well documented and the car's wheel alignment has been checked three times. This morning I took it to the alignment shop that Discount Tire recommends and as with before, they said it was perfect. The manager of the alignment shop even went as far as phoning Discount Tire to speak with ** (their manager) in order to personally confirm that the car is in spec and the problem is with the tires.

Since you DO NOT stand behind your product, I will never purchase another Michelin product. Further, I will use every social media outlet available to let others know that your company doesn't stand behind its product, even for a customer who's purchased six sets of tires.

What a wonderful gift until July 1, 2014 with only 28k miles on them and I had to stop on my way home in a small town due to these tires! The tire shop would not let me leave due to the tread separating from the tire which had 17k left on the tread warranty. I had 5 minutes before the distributor left the warehouse to get new tires that day or I was stranded. These weren't Michelin and I was unfortunately stuck with tires that were not "reimbursable" per Michelin representatives.

After 3 months of leaving voicemails and getting nowhere, I was bullied and told I had 10 days to accept the offer, but I requested a manager to call. Well on day 7 when no manager had called, I called back and finally got someone who promised 50% off new Michelin (geez I just got new tires) or 50% refund due to these issues. I finally told via a response to the original email that I was not going to purchase new tires and wanted the 50% refund to find out that they will only give me 25%. Then he said “ok 30%” and when I said No he said “ok 35% - that is it and I'll be in trouble.”

Is there a way to get transcript logs and calls that were recorded? I know I'm not making this up! I have never had such horrible quality of tires or customer service. These people should be ashamed! I'll be sending a letter to the BBB about this as well. Don't buy Michelin, EVER! Quality is not there, what happened to this great brand?

The original Michelin Primacy MXM4 Tires, P245/50R/17, are being replaced today due to large splits in the sidewalls. These large splits are near the "bead" area of the tire and are not normal dry rot type splits. These are large gash type splits which were noticed when I took the car in for an oil change and inspection. This car has not ever sat out in the sun or the weather...always kept in an enclosed carport. There is absolutely no reason these tires should fail at 15,000 miles. On 1/29/2015, I heard from Jenny from Michelin. She apologized for the handling of this issue by Michelin Consumer Rewards Center and advised that a check for $70 would be forthcoming to replace the out-dated check. She said to hold on to the old check until the replacement arrived, then to shred/destroy the old one. On 2/7/2015, I received the replacement check. I thank both Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau of Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota & Nebraska for their assistance in resolving this matter quickly and amicably. I have updated my star-rating accordingly.

    Original Review: Jan. 19, 2015

In 2010, four new Michelin tires were purchased from the local Sears Auto Center based on a $70 rebate advertisement. I was mailed check #**, dated 9/21/2010 from Michelin. The check states void after 12/20/2010. The check was not cashed/deposited because it was inadvertently misplaced. The envelope was recently found and mistake discovered.

Today, 1/19/2015, I called the Michelin Consumer Rewards Center (866) 212-9619 to inquire how to go about receiving a replacement check. I was told by the agent and subsequently her supervisor Joanne that Michelin Consumer Rewards Center could not authorize a replacement because the records pertaining to "paper checks" were no longer available in their system--that they took over two years ago and only issue Visa card rebates. Anything prior to their take over is not their responsibility and therefore, she could not help me.

I explained to her that I have the original check drawn on a bank in Clara City, MN from a verifiable Michelin account, but that did not seem to phase her. Her comeback was that the check/promo expired after 12/20/2010. My contention is that the check was void after 12/20/2010, but the promo was valid, which makes the original check valid. I find it unconscionable conduct to deprive a consumer of a promised rebate because it's "no longer in the system" when the original document is available for verification. I would appreciate your help to submit my complaint to Michelin Consumer Rewards/Complaints. Thank you.

She said she drove the car 3 days per week to work and back then sold the car due to health concerns so it's not like it just sat in her driveway for years.

We contacted the dealership and they apologized as well as wrote them a $300 check for new tires. The dealership then told them to visit our local Michelin dealer for more help. That's where things got worse. The Michelin dealer is only willing to give than 25% off a set of 4. Not to mention the tires originally on the car (Energy MXV4 Plus) are discontinued. The tires the dealer wants to put on are $219 per tire, that's $876. Minus the $300 makes them $576. With a 25% discount, it comes to 474.12 because our sales tax is beyond high at a whopping 9.75%. We bought a brand new F350 diesel with a set of Michelin tires on them in July of 2013. The end of June 2014, we noticed pitting and cracking in the tires on the tread, so only a year later. The vehicle had just barely 10,000 miles on it, and never goes off road. We went to the dealership who initially contacted Michelin. We were first offered that they would pay 85% of two of the tires and 35% of the other two, which was not acceptable to us, as even the service manager said the tires were defective. So we called Michelin ourselves multiple times and asked to speak with managers, who seemed always to be on breaks when we called. When we finally spoke with a manager about the issues, they kept referring to the tread-wear, which, yes the tread was wearing faster than it should and is even another issue but there are CHUNKS of rubber tire missing from almost brand new tires and it was on all four tires.

They would never admit the tires were defective, but they kept trying to give us a "better deal". As they told us their "final offer" was 2 new tires for free and we would have to pay 40% of DEALER RETAIL (which these tires are $400+ per tire at the dealer) plus mounting and balancing for all 4 which means we would have to pay $500+ of our own money to replace their tires that are defective and falling apart.... unbelievable and truly disheartening that Michelin does not stand behind their products. I had Michelins many years ago on a car and got 80K miles out of them and never one issue. We thought we were lucky to have Michelins on the new truck we bought last year, but it is turning out to be a curse instead. We are trying to work with the dealership for a better price on the tires, so our 40% is less. Crossing my fingers, as we have to do something, we can't keep driving on tires that are falling apart, even though we believe that Michelin should be paying for it all.

Based on my experience, I believe Michelin has no intention of honoring their warranty. One of my tires is defective which was proven by two separate mechanics (independent and BMW) after going through two separate inspections and a total of 7 alignments. After informing Michelin of all this, they still needed an inspection from their authorized dealer (Frisby Tires). When I went to Frisby, they had no interest in helping me and made up every excuse possible to try to get out of doing the inspection - BMW did it wrong, your other mechanic did it wrong, we can't find your tire size, it must have been purchased in the USA - and they sent me away without doing the inspection.

I informed Michelin of this and they apologized but still needed an inspection, so they sent me to Canadian Tire. So I drove to Canadian Tire and they said they do not do Michelin's inspection unless the tire was bought from Canadian Tire. I informed Michelin of this and they apologized but still needed an inspection, so they sent me back to Frisby. I went to Frisby and spoke to another person. Again he asked, "Why should we do this when you didn't buy it here?" I said, "I don't know. Michelin sent me here".

So he asked me what I did. I told what I've done with the two separate mechanics and he said, "Well, it's clear. The tire is defective". He said, "You can't do a tire inspection on a radial pull." He said, "You've gone through the correct steps in identifying a radial pull." However the tire was on back order so he wasn't sure what to do, so he sent me on my way. I informed Michelin of this and they said Frisby had not reported the inspection result. They called Frisby and said they needed me to go back to Frisby for an inspection. That's when I got fed up and said I will not go back to Frisby again. I have not heard back from Michelin since. Michelin has no intention of honoring their warranty.

I found their claim preposterous until I was taken outside and shown the tires. I then proceeded to Walmart where the tires had originally been purchased and was told they had no record of my having purchased those tires there.

I was told that Michelin Hydro-Edges were prone to dry rot and they no longer carried them. Handy, they had no record of my only tire purchase ever from Walmart but admitted my name was in their computer records in the tire department. They advised because the tires were six years old, Walmart would not do anything to warrant the tires and that I would have to contact Michelin directly. So much for misleading me about their 90,000 mile warranty as the mini-van has only 63,794 miles on it on 05/24/2014 and the OEM Continental tires were completely worn out before the Michelin Hydro-Edges were even installed.

But on 5/16/14, while driving to the coast towing our fifth wheel trailer, one of them EXPLODED (!) and destroyed the entire right side of my truck. We just narrowly avoided going off the road and into a drainage canal.

After emergency service got us back up on the road, a tire service looked at the tires and showed us they were dry rotted and full of cracks all through the side wall and tread. This defect has caused $5,000 in damage to my truck. AND is the last time I buy a Michelin tire. There is no way the tire should rot that soon. I just replaced 4 Goodyear G614s on my trailer that are 9 years old and have zero cracks (!) but because of the age, I installed 4 new ones.

The employee technician there pulled a card out of his pocket which displayed 4 different views of "sidewall dry rot" tire pictures. He told me to keep an eye on the dry rot progression on each tire. When the dry rot reaches the 4th picture stage, they (America's Tires) will replace all of my tires if they are still under warranty!

I decided to go online and research these tires. Now, I have discovered how dangerous, and potentially dangerous these tires are. I am riding around on time bombs! I am appalled that Michelin and America's Tires would abuse their customer's life to this degree!

Returned to the dealer which was an exercise in frustration as always. They said there was nothing they could do even though the car supposedly passed their 10,000 point marketing gimmick inspection to qualify as "certified". After that aggravation I began to check the internet only to find that Michelin obviously has a huge problem with premature dry rot. Before you buy Michelin tires (or any tires at Sam's Club) read this. I purchased a set of Michelin Hydroedge (90,000 mile, six-year warranty) tires in December 2008 from Sam's Club at Harbison, in Columbia SC. These included the road hazard warranty. The van has done 56,000 miles since then. Last Thursday morning at 5:30 am, my 74 year old mother and her 70 year old husband were on the way to the hospital when they had a flat. At that hour there was no one to assist so they had to call a taxi for a $70 ride to the hospital.

After inspecting the tires I noticed that all four showed evidence of deep cracks (not dry-rot) in the sidewalls of the tires where they meet the tread. The one tire which went flat also had a nail in it, which may or may not have caused the tire to fail. Regardless, I thought with the manufacturer's warranty and the road hazard warranty and receipt in hand I would be able to get some satisfaction from Sam's Club and/or Michelin. Here's what I was told: Sam's Club only warranties tires for three years, regardless of what the manufacturer's warranty says. The tire definitely went flat due to the nail in it (I've driven cars that had nails in the tires which didn't go flat so I don't know how they could be that certain). As a goodwill gesture they would replace the flat tire on a pro-rated basis but offered me nothing for the other three defective tires. I would have to deal with Michelin for the other tires.

I called Suzanne at Michelin customer service and she told me the same as Sam's Club - Sam's doesn't honor the MIchelin warranty, but she could send me to another MIchelin dealer to see if they would warranty the three remaining tires (which they never sold in the first place). When I pointed out how ridiculous that was and that I may end up with mismatched tires she had nothing else to offer. Since I had already wasted two hours with Sam's I wasn't going to continue driving around town without a definitive answer. I hung up and the van now has Goodyear tires on it. Beware of Michelin and Sam's when buying tires.

I purchased a set of 4 Michelin LTX M/S2 tires through Costco back in April 2012. As of right now, November 2013, I have about 22K miles on them. Recently, noticed all 4 tires having chunks of rubber missing from the thread, at varying degrees of damage. The tires are always properly inflated, are rotated every time the truck is serviced (every 5000), alignment is checked, and I drive only on paved city roads (asphalt and concrete).

Today, I took the truck to Costco to have the tires inspected. The "certified" tech acknowledged the issue but could not give an explanation. He also stated this was the first time he saw the problem on the M/S2. Costco offered to prorate only the front 2 tires, saying these tires were in worse shape than the rear - even though the problem exists on all 4 tires. However, the tech offered up different tires, recommending not to put the same tire (brand/model) on the truck. But this would mean a mix match of tires, and I would only have to return a couple of months later to replace the other two. The tech also indicated this was Costco's warranty and not Michelin. When I inquired about the Michelin warranty, the tech related that dealing with Michelin will take months, but he could talk to his warehouse manager to see if Costco will prorate all 4 tires due to my concerns. The tech said he will have an answer by Monday.

In the meantime, I sent an email to Michelin concerning my issue. Received a generic reply that due to high email volume, a response may be delayed a few days, but to call an 800 number if it is a major concern. I will probably follow up on Monday with both Costco and Michelin. Bottom line, at 22K miles (70K warranty), if the tires show anything other than normal thread wear and is not caused by user error, the dealer and/or manufacturer (Costco and Michelin) should be doing whatever they can to resolve the issue to the customer's satisfaction. I don't mind paying a prorated price for all 4 tires, but if the issue is in workmanship and materials, the tires should be replaced at no cost.

Calling Toyota about the incident the Toyota company had a tow service take the car back to the dealership where I had purchased the car. I found out that the tires are not covered. The brand of tires were Michelin. Total miles driven on city streets were less than 400 miles. This should never had happened on new tires no matter what the brand. I am at the moment taking steps to rectify the problem that Michelin Tires have created in my life.

I own a 2008 Toyota Camry SE (Tire Size. 215/55R17). Please note that last March, 22/03/2013, I had changed my Bridgestone Tires with Michelin 215/55 R17 94W PE2. And from the first day, I am feeling a jumping in my car. Actually, the first time, I think it is because of my car shocks. After I checked all the shock, the jumping is still there and after I replaced my shocks. Then also jumping is not gone. Within these 6 months, I checked the tire balancing 5 to 6 times. In the highway, I am unable to control the car because of this jumping. And yesterday, I went to the tire shop and they did the Wheel Balancing again but the jumping was still there.

Then I went again to my Toyota Authorized Service and they checked all my shocks and advised me that all the four shocks are working properly. After that, they put another tire and drove the car with me. Surprisingly, all the jumping was gone and my ride was smooth. So they advised me to change all tires. As I mentioned above, I bought these tires 6 months back and today I went to Michelin Authorized retailer and they rode the car with me and there was a jumping and guy wanted to blame my car. Unfortunately, the guy (Mr. ** from Central Motors - Mussfah) advised that, once the tire gets old, it will get smooth and he told he will not replace the tires. And only 1 mm tread gone. That means the tire still looks like new but not smooth.

I am frankly telling first time I am getting this problem and previously I had used Bridgestone and had never faced any problems with that tire and I used 4 years that tire. And in my knowledge, once the tire gets older, it has become harder. But your people are telling getting older is good. Please note that there is a steering Vibration after 120 km/h but the jumping we will feel if we ride the car is in 5 km/hr also. Therefore, we kindly request you to replace my 4 tires with new ones. If you do not support me, definitely I will not buy Michelin again and I will not recommend for my friends and relatives. I am screwed up from last six months because of this, so I look forward to receiving a positive response from your end.

Please be advised, if you have cracking sidewalls on your Michelin cars tires, you are essentially screwed. My Ford was delivered with Michelin tires. After 11 K miles, the tire walls were obviously unsafe. The tread-sidewall interface on the side of all 4 tires was splitting. Upon my arrival at my local authorized Michelin tire dealership, it was immediately apparent that I was in for a hassle. The dealer, through multiple prior experiences, knew that any Michelin tire problem was now his problem. After 4 visits taking 4 weeks, my claim was only accepted after the dealer's tire tech with 20 years of experience announced that the tires were unsafe to the Michelin telephone rep. and that the rating on the remaining tire tread was 8 out of 10 with 10 being a brand new tire.

In the end I was offered 35% of full price for a new set of tires which were Uniroyals, which Michelin owns, and the dealer received no RMA for my fully defective tires. Please note that I videoed my last visit to the dealership and have the dealer swearing up & down how bad Michelin is to deal with on this problem. Also note that Michelin will not accept digital photos of their inferior product which show this defect. My tire photos should immediately alert the DOT of a major safety issue here and they are available to anyone for the asking. At this point, will keep a close eye on my new Uniroyals but will shy away from all Michelin products on my other vehicles.

Vehicle had less than 15,000 miles with a cracked sidewall (unsafe to drive) replaced. Later noticed all remaining tires had cracks in sidewalls. Notifying Michelin, but local tire store says this is "normal cosmetic cracking" per Michelin. REALLY???? Rated as 2 so far unless Michelin replaces them under FULL warranty. I will then retract and upgrade my rating.

I've had Michelin tires since my truck was new. I had one flat and 4 tire explosions, one at 40 mph that did 1700 dollars damage to the left front of my truck. Another blew up on right rear and did 1000 dollars damage, and one blew up while the truck was sitting in my driveway, and one blew up when I stopped at a stop sign. Discount Tire told me the tire was defective. They sent the tire to Michelin back east. Michelin Tire will not take responsibility for their products. I now have Falken tires on my truck.

Well here I am, after 24k and $900.00, I will never buy another Michelin tire, after reading the reviews and experiencing my own issues, i.e., howling road noise, chunking outer tread, and an "OH, they're fine!" at the local Discount tire shop, where they were purchased?? Sorry Michelin man, but you're burning people left and right, and it's gonna come back to haunt you! I just pray some unsuspecting consumer doesn't get injured or worse before the DOT or other safety agency gets involved with Michelin (the ozone?). Really, well, you better figure it out or stop selling tires and/or compensate your customers for this giant snafu.

Have a set of 4 Michelin 265-75x16 light truck tires with actual 18,000 miles and 90% tread. Rotting so bad on the sidewall as to be a real safety concern. No help from Michelin. When asked of them why this is occurring... "To be real honest sir, we use crappy rubber"! 40+ years using their tires as well as promoting them to all my automotive customers and this is where we end up.

I live behind a Michelin tire dealer. The installer saw my truck and said the tires were not safe. They were 5 years old and had about 10,000 miles on them. He said they were cracked. I ignored him because Michelin is supposed to be the best tire around. That weekend my wife, 2 dogs and I were headed to Arizona. Got about 150 miles and had the right rear tire blow up. Tore the quarter panel muffler and left us in the desert for about 2 hours. $4500 later, Michelin said I hit something on the highway and that was it. It's like they know what you are going to say and already have a answer.

My Grandfather always told me that Michelin tires were worth the extra money & in the past I have experienced that, but I recently had a Mercedes only get 36k miles on a set of Michelins and Discount Tire told me that Michelin doesn't do anything to compensate or help with warranty. Assuming that's true, I bought another brand and will not ever buy Michelin tires again.

Bought a 2012 Challenger on March 30th, 2013. Totally new car, just a year old leftover from 2012. Ever since we bought it, I had to air up tires. This is July 23, 2013. We have been fighting with Michelin to replace them after the qualified service department said they were rotten. Michelin said they would replace them for free BUT Every tire center wants us to pay for the tires and wait on the reimbursement of OUR money. None of the tire centers will even think of doing it because they won't get the reimbursement so they say.

I bought my 2006 Dodge truck about 3 month ago. It came with Michelin tires. I thought that was good. I was so wrong. 2 days ago I seen white spots on my front tire. First I thought it was paper stuck to my tires. I checked it and I was shocked the tire was peeling. The treat was really still good but after close checking, all the tires starting to peel. What a junk tire and I don't like taking a chance on my life with bad tires. So I went and got new tires but not Michelins. They are junk so buyer beware - stay away from Michelin tires.

Purchased a new ford F350 from Battlefield Ford - bought in May 2013. Upon getting the vehicle home and re-cleaning the vehicle to my likings - I noticed all 4 Michelin tires cracking around the bead. This vehicle had 12 miles on it when I bought it. It now has 3000 and the cracks are getting worse - have contacted the dealer and they took some pictures of the tires and are now awaiting Michelin’s decision - I work in the tire industry and this is not good for a brand new tire - Will I put Michelins on as replacement tires on my other 3 vehicles - no I would not. This is Michelin’s problem with reducing the amount of petroleum products being added to the rubber compound to reduce cost.

Got a set of Michelin Primus few years back, with about 30k on it now, but it had shown sign of crack about two years ago, which I ignore but now the cracks are larger and very noticeable. I had this installed at Costco for a hefty amount of $$, went back to them and they give me the weather ozone crap and won't warranty it. Said, "It was normal." WTF?? So I called Michelin customer service, and they also said the same thing, blaming on the ozone crap that it was normal to have crack and is safe to drive. Hell, I've been driving it since I notice the cracks years ago, but now got worse and start to show sign of having those lumps on the side. Bottom line, DO NOT BUY Michelin tires. They don't honor their warranty and will give you a list reason to avoid their warranty. Now I know that Michelin tires are NOTORIOUS for sidewall cracks.
