Purchased 2013 Fiat 500. Tires are making loud road noises like clapping and flapping. Mileage is 30,000 miles. What are my options against this company or Fiat? American consumers seem to have very little protection these days. I am personally tired of being ripped off. Cars that do not hold value such as the Fiat 500. I owe $15,000 and the car is only worth $7,500 to $8,000. What a joke and a rip off. The only winner in this deal is the dealership and the credit union. Cannot wait to get rid of it.

ContiProContact tires are horrible. This is the 2nd time in 2 years that I am having to purchase new tires, having only driven 12,000 miles on a 60,000 mile guarantee. I have a Mercedes S550 and purchased the Contiprocontact 255/45R18 tires and have had flats, bulges and now my Mercedes rep is telling me I have 0 tread on 2 tires I purchased 2 years ago and only 2000 miles left on 2 tires I purchased 1 year ago. I rotated and balanced them as directed but the hassle of having to drive back to the place where I bought them so they can "evaluate" and to save a few dollars is too inconvenient. I am so disappointed that a $300 tire has held up in this poor manner. It's not even emotionally driven because I try to control letting things make me angry but I feel totally ripped off. What can we do? The sheer number of people having these issues with this brand is staggering.

Purchased and installed a set of Conti Cross ECO tires. Literally 1 month in, my pregnant wife has a highway blowout with our twins in the back. The sidewall was completely shredded and there was no puncture found in the tread at all. Despite a free replacement tire from the dealer, I'm a bit apprehensive driving with these tires but hoping there will be no further issue with them.

Mb e350 low profile tires - I had a blowout after 3 days and then 2 months later I had to replace 2 more tires due to bubbles on sidewall. Ridiculous at 350.00 a tire. Is there a class action suit on these tires? Do not recommend low profile tires at all unless you live where there are zero potholes - maybe Arizona or Florida.

I bought a brand new Nissan Altima a month ago. It now has 400 miles and yesterday I noticed a LARGE dent had developed in the front passenger side of this Continentals. (It looked quite unusual. I've been driving and buying cars for the past 30 years.) I had discussed these tires with the dealership at the time of purchase and they are not under any sort of warranty. I was expecting to replace them in September before winter. But not at 400 miles. Went to Costco and dropped 460.00 for new Michelins (on sale) and I think my life and my passengers lives are worth way more than that. I understand that the car manufacturers need to make as much as possible, but please. This is ridiculous.

Well, I guess I'm joining this party late after reading many pages of posts about cars tire blowouts. But I'll add my tale of woes. At first, I thought the tire blowouts were just on Mercedes Benz, but now see it is happening with many other car makes with the common denominator being the tire manufacturer, Continental. I previously owned a 2010 MB E550 and leased another new one in 2013. On the 2010 MB, I had less than 20,000 miles on it when I turned it in and never had a tire blowout. I don't know if it had Continental tires on it. On the 2013, I've had 3 OEM Continental tire blowouts on 2 separate occasions on my 2013 E550 Benz. The first time both tires on the left (driver's side) blew out after hitting a pothole. Only had about 5,000 miles on the car. The second time the right front tire blew out after hitting a pothole. Only had about 12,000 miles on it.
On both occasions my speed was less than 30 mph when I hit the pothole and the tire pressure went to 0 in less than a minute. Fortunately, I did not ruin the rims but I think only because I was able to pull over quickly. In over 45 years of driving experience with many different cars, I have never had not even one tire blow out. I, too, believe there is something definitely wrong and/or defective with the Continental tires. There are way too many people experiencing tire blowouts and/or bubbles in their tires for this to be a coincidence. I have filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Please advise me as to any class action lawsuit you may be aware of against MB and/or the tire manufacturer as I certainly want to join in. Needless to say, I'm very disgusted and disappointed with MB and Continental on this issue and their lack of response and concern for their customers. I think everyone should file a complaint with the NHTSA for them to investigate this. I wonder how many injuries and/or deaths are attributable to these dangerous tires. I also wonder why so many car manufacturers continue to put these tires on their cars.

Three weeks ago I purchased a new 2015 F450 with Continental 19.5" tires. Here we are with only 2500 miles on the truck and it shakes so violently you can steer or stop it. I take it to a local tire dealer that I have known for 19 years and they immediately find two massively unbalanced front tires. Then the right rear dual is not even properly beaded on the rear causing the tire to wobble. If that was enough the two left side duals are chunking. Meaning chunks of rubber or coming off. Everybody is pointing a finger and I am stuck having to pay for new tires. I am NEVER buying another FORD and there will NEVER be Continental Tires on anything I ever drive again. Total cost to replace with Michelin's $3050. After 2500 miles! As usual the customer takes in the ass.

On November 28, 2014 I purchased and had installed 4 new ContiProContact tires. Today, while adding air to my tires, I noticed a bulge on the sidewall of the right front one. The new tires have a total of 8277 miles on them. I contacted Flagship Motorcars in Lynnfield, MA and was told that they would honor the 1 year tire hazard policy and replace the tire with a new one. However, I have to pay for the mounting and alignment. Cost to me will be about $45 plus taking up half a day getting the work done. The next time I get tires they will not be Continental.

Continental ContiProContact - These tires came on my new car purchased in July 2011. I only have 23,000 miles on the car and was informed by Honda that all four tires need replacing! The worst tire (3/32), two are 4/32, one is 5/32. I got a second opinion, and he agreed with Honda. All four are going bad. I do have a warranty for 70 months but not sure how it works. Will have to find out. I'm very dissatisfied with the life received out of these tires. This is my sixth vehicle (driver since 1974), and I have never had tires wear this quickly. Honda is recommending another set of Continentals... I don't think so!

I recently purchased 4 Continental tires from Pep Boys. Since, three tires have had to be replaced due to sidewall problems. I currently have a bubble rising on one of these. Heaven knows what's going on with the inside sides where I can't see. Reading the experiences of many hundreds of other who have complained to your site, it seems clear there is a sidewall defect problem and these tires should be recalled before people start dying from blow-outs, etc. Of course we all get the same song and dance from the dealer about road hazard damage.

Just purchased a 2015 Ford Fusion in 01/15 that came with Continental Tires. I only have 2,500 miles on my car. This past Saturday I notice a bump on the side wall of the front driver side tire. I took it to the dealership & was told it was caused by a pothole. I'm a very cautious driver and find it hard to believe since I don't recall hitting a pothole that large that would cause any damage to a tire and no other damage was done to my car (no rim damage, front end alignment is good, etc.).
I called Continental Tires and was given a claim number, was told to return the tire to the dealership so they can return the tire to them and they would refund my money as a "goodwill gesture." When my dealership call, they were told that I would only get 65% minus the shipping of the tire or I can wait until they examine the tire for final determination and if it is determined that the tire is damage caused by a pothole I will receive nothing but a bill for the shipping. The tires a garbage but I cannot afford to replace 4 tires so I'm stuck with them right now. I guess my next step is to contact the Better Business Bureau.

The Continental ContiPro Contact tires (235/r40-18) are terrible tires. Although rotated frequently and the alignment is good, these tires are terribly cupped and the road noise is unbearable. My first visit to the VW dealer was at 17k miles. Another visit was at 26k miles, another at 29k miles. The noise is so unbearable that I do not enjoy driving the car. A phone call to ** at Continental customer service was a waste of time; he was very defensive and was "defending" Continentals tire history before I could completely explain the steps that I have done for rotation and alignment. I owned a 2002 Mercedes C240 and drove it for almost 10 years (with Michelin Tires). I never had a problem with the tires on that car ever!!! November 2013 I bought a new Mercedes that came with Continental Tires. After almost a year of owning this car, I had to replace the 2 rear tires within 3 weeks of each other. They each had big gashes on the inside of the tires. I've never seen that before. I was told I must have hit something that bounced between the tires. If that's the case, why did it take 3 weeks for the other tire to lose air.
So here I am just a couple of months from replacing the two rear tires and for the past week, my sensor kept lighting up telling me that I was slowing losing air in ALL FOUR tires. Tonight my front left tire is losing air fast, but I can't see that there's anything penetrating the tire. Thank you to everyone for posting here!!! I purchased a new Honda Civic in July 2014. It isn't driven much, and has 3,770 miles on it. I noticed a bulge in the sidewall and took it to Honda only to be told "not covered" and to take it to Discount Tire. I heard the same thing there! They said I had been driving through potholes. I've never had this problem in my 50 years of driving. I read on tirerack.com that separation/bubbles that occur early in the life of tire are usually associated with a manufacturing defect, and a single impact with a pothole or curb can cause a new tire to be damaged.
I'm worried that the bubbles will continue to appear and feel like the product is vulnerable (too many people are saying the same thing!). Usually the problem in manufacturing is apparent within 6 months, but my car is now 8 months old although it is not driven much (less than 500 miles/month), but they can conveniently dismiss this as "road hazard" and call it an impact break which is not covered under Continental's warranty. I'm very disappointed in the "quality" of these tires and would NEVER purchase them again. I'm almost afraid to drive my new car anywhere. 3,750 miles on a tire that is supposed to last 60,000 - that's outrageous! Something is definitely wrong.

On 03/14/2015 on the Pennsylvania Highway 81, around 2:00 AM with 39 degree, two tires blew - Initially I blamed the potholes but later I discovered a small side damage on both tires. I am 52 years old and I have been driving since I was 16, I had all kind of cars and trucks but this is the first time when something like that happened to me. The nearest VW dealer was 32 miles away but the dealer was closed on Sunday and Wal-Mart didn't carry the 235/40R18 from any brand so I had to sleep on a $10 hotel in St Clair, PA that cost me $70 because the life is like that. 32 miles destroyed the supposed run-on-flat tires and voided the warranty.
I am not a tires expert but since the same exact thing has happened to many others, I believe that something is not right about the Continental Tires 235/40R18 that came on VW. I've paid $240 at the VW dealer in PA for one tire and replaced the other one with the spare. Back in Miami, I have found that the Pirelli P Zero Rosso will cost me $132 and the Goodyear Eagle GT $153. I am not sure if I want to blame Continental, VW or myself, but on a $37k VW CC R Line, VW should put better tires instead of these $40 tires re-sale for $240 to me.
The warranty is a hoax because the VW Dealer in Miami, told me that they don't deal with the warranty from Continental. I called Continental and they sent me back to the VW dealer where they repeat the same and at the end of the story, I've found that the warranty is also a hoax. Ah, the warranty don't cover Road hazard. Apparently, the supposed "Road Hazard" is damaging Continental tires only and all in the same exact way. I will keep the two damaged tires in case that someone wants to pursue with a class action against VW or Continental.

I have a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with 32,000 KM (20,000 MILES). It has been driven in the city and on the highway but not on rough roads. I have had the tires rotated every 10,000 km. I check tire pressure monthly. Two of the tires (Continental ContiProContact) have steel wires protruding from the side just below the tread and a tire shop says the belt package is coming apart. They are not worn badly at all but the car vibrates on the highway and that is why I had them checked. The dealer say I am over the expressed tire warranty but they will sell me new tires and see if Continental Tires will cover part of the cost. I do not want another set of their tires on my car, so I guess there is nothing I can do except warn others to stay away from this brand. There are a lot of reports of sidewall blowouts as well on this and other sites. Too bad, they used to make good tires.

Today my daughter had her second tire fail on her new Hyundai Elantra (2015) car with less than 6000 miles on it. At less than 30 miles per hour she hit a small pot hole and popped her tire. As this is the second time in less than 2 months, I seriously question the quality of product Continental tires is providing to their customer base, or for that matter the quality tire Hyundai is using in their new car inventory. At a cost of $200 for replacement I have come to the conclusion that I need to change all 4 tires and switch to a new brand tire. Having driven for over 45 years, I have never seen this problem and believe a legal investigation should be initiated by Consumer Affairs and safety type organizations. I bought a new 2014 Ford Focus from John Kennedy Ford in Pottstown. It was 3 months after I bought the vehicle that I started having problems with the tires. I was sitting in Wawa parking lot drinking my morning coffee and I heard a loud bang from under my car. My tire popped, split along the seam of the sidewall and the tread. I was evaluating the situation when I noticed a large bubble in the side of another tire. I replaced the 2 tires at Pep Boys and drove to the dealership to show them what happened. They took pictures, put the car on the lift to look for damage to my vehicle to see if I hit something. They found no evidence of careless or reckless driving - the car still looked brand new. They said they would forward everything to Continental Tires.
After waiting 4 or 5 weeks, I started calling the dealership, asking them what was going on. Finally someone from the dealership called and said Continental said the blowout was my fault and they are not liable. I asked about the warranty and they said the warranty is void because the damage was caused by my bad driving. I told the John F Kennedy Ford representative that I have been driving for over 40 years. I always shopped for the cheapest tires and I have even bought used tires and this has never happened before. I told him I was going to call the Lemon Law lawyers. He called me back the next day and said the dealership, not Continental, would pay for one tire. They mailed me a check for $137. I bought a Mercedes 550 4Matic last July. I asked at purchase time if I could choose the tires and was told no. The car came with Continental ContiSportContact 5-18 (245/40R18 97 Y) tires. Before the car had even 4000 miles on it, the right front tire had a bulge. This happened when I was driving in Calgary, Canada, where there were no pot holes. I took my car to a tire dealer whose first opinion was that I had hit a pot hole. After removing the tire and checking it, both the tech and the supervisor opined that it must have been defective. The Mercedes dealer was of no help and neither was Continental.
Six months later, the left tire has a bulge. I had never driven the car during snow period and took it out today for a drive within the city limits where the speed limit is 25. Again, neither the Mercedes dealer nor Continental provided any support towards a replacement. All the service manager at Mercedes dealership would say is that a heavy car like the Mercedes has seen a number of such complaints. He said he replaces the tires on other cars regularly. This raises two questions: why is Mercedes staying with a tire that is unsuitable (2 ply rating) and why is Continental producing low quality tires? I am planning to replace the tires with Michelins which, over the last 20 years or so, gave me superb quality tires on my previous cars - a Lexus LS400 and an Acura RL. My advice to anyone reading this is avoid Continental tires. They are pure junk.

I have had these tires and rotate them and maintain them with the 13th of March making it a full year since I have had these tires on my Mazda 3. Tire Rack's old warranty is similar to Continental's, which is 2 yrs. or the first 2/32 wear of the tire. Hoping that the tires were under a year of use, the dealer said the tires were at 5/32 wear already and there was nothing that Tire Rack or Continental could do.
Accepted the fact, but I brought up to the dealer that if I am at 5/32 wear already with about a year into these tires that have about 17K on them that is not good for tread warranty that is guaranteed 6 yrs./70,000 miles by Continental. I will be looking forward to a wear of 2/32 by my second year, which I will be filing a claim to Continental on their guaranteed warranty of the 6 yr./70,000 mile they claim on these tires.

I purchased a new Audi A3 in July 2014 that was equipped with Continental 225/40 R18 low profile tires. I did not purchase the road hazard warranty from the dealer (it was VERY expensive) and because I never had issues with 30+ years of driving with tire problems before. That changed with these tires... 3 blow-outs in less than 7 months. All due from potholes, all hit at speeds less than 30 mph. At first I was blaming the potholes, but at the speeds I was going, and the type of damage to the tire (all three tires had sidewall blowouts) I am now suspecting defective tires.
Seeing the amount of complaints on the internet, I believe Continental has a serious quality issue with this product. My advice: STAY AWAY FROM CONTINENTAL TIRES. I am pursuing replacements/reimbursement from Audi and or Continental, whoever will listen to me. These tires should not fail with 5K mile on them. If a class-action suit is generated from these defective tires, I'll be the first to join...

In my 15 years, and well over 800,000 miles of driving in NJ, I have never before experienced a blow-out until this year, my first harsh winter on the Continental PureContact with EcoPlus Technology tires on all 4 corners. This occurred not once, but twice this winter so far, once due to a pothole, the other is to-this-day unknown. And when I say blow-out, I mean in such a spectacular fashion that I wouldn't expect from the cheapest pep-boy specials. The first incident that happened roughly a month ago ripped a 12" gash from the center of the tread all the way up to the rim at over 50 MPH. The second one failed last night and ripped a 8" u-shaped hole in the sidewall of the tire.

I would take the vehicle to have the tires inflated and one of them or more would be low. Eventually the dealer changed the tire pressure warning sending units. They unmounted and remounted the tires. Nothing helped. At about 30,000 miles after a tire went flat in my garage, I replaced the Continental tires with Michelins. Since that time I have put an additional 12,000 miles on the vehicle and have not had a low pressure warning alarm since. As far as I'm concerned, Continental tires are crap. Of course there is no spare so Fiat has had to arrange flat-bed towing to the dealer. The dealer has done nothing other than charge me for two new tires, mounting and balancing. Since I purchase a new car every couple of years, I'm knowledgeable of vehicles, and opt for the better options when purchasing, especially tires for safety reasons. In December of 2013, the TPS would appear on the dash. I would go fill up air, check pressure on the tires, yada yada. This went on for 6 months. TPS, low pressure, every other week checking tires! Took the car in dealer service in July 2014 for rotation, oil change, at 15,000 miles. The tires were at 8/32 and 5/32, which means in a few months, I would need new ones? At 15,000 miles??
The dealer said it was an air fluctuation from the temperature because we fill them with nitrous gas. Really??? That's new!! So they rotated the tires, sent me off. A few days later, the Tire Sensor light was back on! So I started the process AGAIN. Stop, check tires, fill up with air. It hasn't stopped. Now it is November 2014, 4 months later. Brought to the dealer, Nissan Autonation, service says I got a nail in the front right. "Okay, well what about the other 3 tires that keep leaking and have been leaking air for a year?" I asked. No answer. "Bring your car back tomorrow. We will replace the one with the nail in it. It is under warranty," Nissan service says. "Still, what about the other 3 and that isn't solving the issue," I say?? Well one thing leads to another.
The service manager comes out all rude and mad and tell me there is no warranty, a new tire is $241, his cost. HAHAHA! He is insane. I already checked tire prices; that was more than double ++ retail cost. Nissan let me leave the dealership with unsafe tires, did not solve or check the remaining tires, did not patch the one that had a "nail". Three visits, 2 days leaving work early, nothing accomplished but arguments over tire warranty. On a recommendation, I went to Discount Tire to have them checked out by an independent party and to fix the tire with the nail. At their recommendation, I replaced all 4 tires. The 2 fronts were bad, nail in one, tread separation, and the driver side had 2 chunks of rubber flapping showing the metal. I asked if 2 tires could be saved for the back. The other 2 were near bald. The tread didn't make it to the Lincolns head on the penny at 19,000 miles??? Goodyears lasted me 60,000, Michelins lasted me 50,000, Kumho 40,000, Continentals ZERO!!
Continental Tires are complete garbage, no warranty, no customer service, and the dealer, Nissan, should not be putting these tires on new cars. They are completely unsafe!! Continental ExtremeContact DWS - These are absolutely the best A/S tires purchased for a sedan (2005 MB E320). I like to swiftly drive & my car has great roadability to do so. With the change in tires (mileage at 85K now 120K) - the performance and safety factor quite noticeably improved dramatically. But only have 35K miles on them before needing to replace the rears (could be variety of reasons for middle wear). The General Grabber AT for my SUV was the only other set of tires where I genuinely noticed significant improvement in driveability, handling & wintry condition driving (Bridgestone, Dunlops, BF Goodrich, Pirelli all $$sucked$$ big time).
These Contis are now the 2nd set of tires where I for one noticed quite significant improved road handling & wintry condition driving. And my MB is rear wheel drive & found it drove better than front wheel drive cars with big name tires. In torrential rain, strong wind gusts, my car handled it without any issues, in 1-4" of upstate NY snow much better driving & control than any other tires I've had! And mainly use this car for long distance driving vs. our Pathfinder for better gas mileage & quicker driving.
But my recent 120K tune up check up was told the rear tires were wearing in the middle (I forgot the name of this condition), not the outside shoulder but the middle?! I am an aggressive driver feeling very confident with the MB but my mechanic could not tell me specifically how I could have worn these out. Wheel alignment, correct air pressure were all fine. I do like how my car takes cornering but the tires don't reflect such wear. Even rotating the tires every oil change at Monro (5-7K with synthetic oil). If not for the lower than expected mileage, I would have rated these all 5 stars. The value saved (from $30-$90 per tire!!) vs. the big name tires which don't perform 1/2 as well nor feel as safe.
But seriously, these tires are well worth the investment IF YOU ARE NOT an aggressive driver. These ARE NOT sports performance all season tires. But it sure did give me great confidence in driving my car in various weather conditions (rain, snow, strong winds). I truly believe that the average non-aggressive driver will get the 50K miles out of these tires - this is a 5 star tire then! I now am more aware of my driving habits after hearing I need to replace the rear tires - gotta use them brakes more instead of down shifting! BTW - the front tires are fine, says I can just replace the rear & still get good mileage out of the fronts. After less than 5000 miles in my new Honda CRV, my right passenger Continental tire blew out going full speed on the freeway. I have been driving over 35 years with never a blow out and surely ridden on worn tires without incident. A brand new car does this?! Moments earlier, I was cruising along in the far left lane but had moved to right lane just before the blowout occurred. My front passenger tire blew out with such force I barely made it to the shoulder with the tire smoking heavily. When I saw the tire, it was literally hanging off the rim! My service plan thankfully included replacement but with the same tires. I am going to bite the bullet and replace them all as this is dangerously poor manufacturing! So sad that there are so many stories and yet reputable car manufacturers continue to put these time bombs onto new cars!

This is only one of the many experience I had with this tires on my 2 years old leased MB 350ML Bluetec, which is an amazing fuel efficiency vehicle where I have now reason to believe that mercedes benz USA is saving money on tires. Leased from Ray Catena in Edison, the vehicle is two years old, the tires are almost all new and still running in to the various problems that I am going to describe below:
2- TWICE tire cracked on external side walls.
3- Very Expensive to buy - MB sells them for $350 a pop + taxes and + installation. Tires come with an invisible lifetime guaranteed.
4- Ray Catena MB of Edison NJ will not accept any responsibility, at a point of trying to get me into a new lease vehicle and make me pay more money, instead of work out the problem. I guess it did not workout well at the end.
Out of curiosity, I did go to other car dealer to see the same model vehicle. The tire mounted, are from other manufactures, which makes me wonder, really, who is lying here, Continental - or Ray Catena of Edison which Leased me the vehicle with cheap tires? I am not sure but I do am very disappointed and will not do the same mistake again.
Note: I do drive always on Highway, and am very careful, however, getting so many problems with a vehicle of two years of age with tires, it's really not normal. And cost a fortune. I'll Suggest: Get wheel and tire insurance on those cars, it's expensive but somehow worth it. Lesson learned.

Continental Extreme Contact DW - The date of manufacture was 26th week of 2012. These have roughly 12k miles on them and plenty of tread left. The splitting was initially noticed on the driver front. The tire spec and pressure are correct for a B6 S4 (35psi). The crack is around 80% of the perimeter. I had the car up on ramps and noticed the sidewall is splitting on ALL 4 TIRES. Tried submitting a claim into Continental and obviously got a canned response to send the tire back to where it was purchased for warranty consideration. I bought the tires off a buddy (needless to say the tires were fine when I bought them). I'm sure it'll be a PITA to try to get something started with Conti when I wasn't the original purchaser. I liked these tires but normal day to day driving should never produce splitting like I have. Oh well, never again.

While I was voting in local elections yesterday, my wife called my attention to the above as I exited the polling facility. She was showing our vehicle to an elderly gentleman that was admiring it and while walking around the perimeter, this damage above was noticed with only 10,245 miles on the vehicle. Neither of us have hit any road object or curb since we leased this vehicle eleven months ago. The break looks identical to your site's photo with the tire failure on the silver rim above.
I immediately took the vehicle to Courtesy Ford on Wayside Drive here in Sanford, FL to report the tire breakdown. This is the same Ford dealership where the lease was drawn up and all of my recalls (3) on the Escape have been completed. ** in the Service Dept. immediately starts to try to verify any warranty coverage on the tire by his phone channels and is told there is none shown! In addition, he starts quoting replacement prices to me that started at $550+ and ends when he stated he was finally on the correct computer screen at $437!! I was also told by him Continental was no longer in business, an identical replacement tire was impossible to obtain, and the quotes were for a comparable Goodyear brand replacement. He also suggested the damage looks to be caused by road hazard contact while neither my wife or I have hit anything - and no one else has driven our leased vehicle since it was aligned, tires checked and balanced by Tires Plus at 9,471 miles where I have a lifetime agreement in place.
Not happy with the visit to **, I called ** (Mgr) at Lake Mary, FL Tires Plus only to find he can get the Continental identical replacement in 2-3 days as it is a specialty tire for around $300-$350 installed - and Continental is still making tires. Really confused by this time with the Ford dealership's approach to this problem, I contacted my former sales person (**) there only to get the eventual ping-pong back to the now Service Mgr. (**). The matter is again discussed with him, and after an extensive wait while he checks with Parts, he relays to me that Continental does not stand behind any of their original equipment tire installs, especially side breaks as this. However, there was an identical replacement tire found in Jacksonville, FL by an employee coming down tomorrow (08/19/2014) to a Manager's Meeting at the Wayside Drive dealership location. He is bringing the tire with him. However, the cost of the tire will be $250 for the Contipro Contact 235/45R19 95H and out the door around $300!!
These prices are ridiculous, and a warranty replacement seems to be out of the question. The vehicle is not safe to operate in this condition, especially at interstate speeds. Can your office help resolve this matter in a fair and equitable manner without the consumer always getting hosed? I also see I am not alone in this dilemma involving Continental Tires.
In closing, I am requesting a copy of this complaint be expedited to and filed with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs in Tallahassee, FL to be further investigated by one of their analysts that is detailed to pursue these types of claims. Thank you in advance for your attention to and pursuit of this matter - before someone gets seriously hurt or killed from these defective tires!

Fearing a blow out, I changed the tire on a Sunday afternoon and pointed this to the rental agent on return. Sixt wants to hold me responsible for what I consider a defective tire and have returned such comments as follows, "Our records show that just over 1,000 miles were put on the vehicle. If it had been defective upon inspection and replacement, it would have been replaced under warranty, but that is not the case... Because there is no damage to the rim, it does not mean the tire itself is not damage. . We took the vehicle to our tire shop and they advised us the tire was not defective, if it would have been, they would've replaced the tire and sent it back to Continental for a warranty replacement".
The tire developed a bulge in the sidewall without any evidence of external damage to the tire or wheel. One would think these tires would last more than 6873 miles. These Continental ContiPro Contact tires came on my used 2005 S-type Jaguar. Within the first few months, we notice a bumpy noise and felt a bump when we drove on the highway. We decide to replace 2 tires spring 2012. In spring of 2013, driving on a residential road, I got a blow out but was going slow enough to just slow down and get a tow. The tire blow out along the sidewall in a circular pattern. Since it was still within the year, I got a full replacement on that tire. For the last past weeks, I noticed a lumpy, bumpy noise when driving on the highway. I suspected the front driver's side tire and sure enough I noticed a bubble there. When I got home I inspected all tires. On another Continental ContiPro Contact tire, there were 2 bubbles (rear driver side). My husband says it is dangerous to drive the car like that because it will blow out. You can see the cracking on the sidewall. I spent over $200 on each tire not to mention the replacements. Now they all have to be replaced because they are dangerous. The company should recall them. If they have not already be the cause of a death, they will cause a death soon enough.

I had all tires replaced with new Continentals and within a few days, I noticed that the ride was bumpy. At first, I passed it off as just uneven but I eventually examined the tires. Sure enough, the front right tire had a "bubble." After reading all of the comments, this is obviously a known defect which the company is doing nothing about. They are making a business decision to not recall and risk YOUR life. Obviously, their bottom line ranks higher than the life of your family. AVOID PURCHASE AND SUE IF NECESSARY.

She on the night of 3/15/14 hit a pothole, she stopped, did a visual inspection of the tires & continued on. 10 miles later the right front passenger tire blew completely out, what I could only describe as a catastrophic sidewall failure. The next day, I checked the other tires & noticed a bulge in the rear passenger tire as well. The tires have a grand total without exaggeration of 177 miles on them! I had the car taken by roll back to the tire store & my dad contacted his sales rep (my dad is a used retail car dealer). Upon their inspection of the tires, they say a curb was hit with the rear tire and because there was so little left of the front that she must have driven on the flat.
Now I had left the pothole out of the equation at that point. I then spoke with the rep myself & explained the pothole, best they can do is 2 new tires but free mount & balance. BS no pothole should cause a blow out of this magnitude & type! I paid & upon doing so I told them I wanted the 2 bad ones. Immediate attitude I did make some comments about how I didn't understand a blow out of this type & got the usual excuses at the point the manager chimed, "Where's the rest of the blown tire? I can't inspect it, she must have driven on it." I lost it & said some choice words! Our families ride on these tires!

We could have been killed with these faulty continental tires. I am keeping them, so when they get recalled or there is a class action lawsuit, I can be added to the claim.
They don't want to cover the tires because they know they need to recall these and don't want to until someone or many people get killed. As you can see from the pictures the pierce of tire blew outward not inward just from the way the bigger piece is on the outside. The dealership told me it had to be, because of a hit to the tire. We were in the center lane of the interstate. I told them if that's the case, then there should be 1000`s of cars on the side of the road. I will be taking off the other 2 continental tires, so me or my family are not killed with the problem of these tires blowing out.

The noise sounded like a cannon and everyone woke up. I was driving. We were on a 4-lane interstate and traveling at 75MPH. As soon as the tire exploded, the rear end of the car swung around. That is the last thing I remember. The next thing I remember is a brief flash of going airborne in the median. After that, all of my memories of the accident DID NOT actually happen. My family tells me that the car began to spin 360 degrees down the highway (during this time I lost consciousness).
The car then slid into the median as it was sliding up the median or whatever it was doing it began to catch air (this is the moment I regained consciousness for a brief second). The front of the vehicle came up. The kids said it was like "the big crash you see at Talladega". The car was flipping in the 1 and a half times and then slamming back down on the front end and the rear end. It went up and came down 6 times they said. We flipped the longer than the length of a football field. And then, the car came to rest on its passenger side... against a road sign that said "WRONG WAY". We were still in the median. By the way, my daughter had her birthday present buckled into her seat belt - the lap belt portion - with her (her 9th birthday was the day before & she had gotten an early birthday present before we left for Florida).
Amazingly, each and every one of my passengers unbuckled their seat belts and stepped out of the roof that was torn away.... even the birthday present. A 2 pound puppy with seat belt burns on his belly had survived! My family thought I was dead. I was unconscious and obviously injured. Though we never crossed over into the southbound side, both sides of the interstate SHUT DOWN even though it was 30 minutes before law enforcement or medical arrived. The crash was just that shocking... even more so to see people WALKING OUT!!! Then, because of the heat someone got a white sheet and covered me with it (I was told) so I'm sure that was a rubber necker's dream.
The 20+ year veteran of the Highway Patrol told my husband he had never worked an accident like that. He said he should have been calling the Coroner for 4 fatalities. You buy the tyres and these are sent to your local garage for fitting. I had a blowout on one tyre. I was overtaking in an outside lane at about forty mph, and had not bumped a kerb or similar. There was no puncture. The sidewall had split. (The RAC rescued me quite quickly, I am delighted to say.) Punctures caused by nails etc are normal hazards but I don't think that a sidewall should split out of nowhere. I suggested the retailer should replace the tyre for me and take this up with the manufacturer. I have used Continental tyres for many years but am now forced to reconsider. (They did tell me in the past that they do not concentrate on the British market but on the Far East.)
Unfortunately this is the first purchase that I have made with them and I debated for a long time whether to buy from you or my usual garage.I don't keep regular mileage records, and the invoice in respect of fitting does not have the car mileage at the time. The tyre mileage is an estimate, but a good one. It is based on car averages and mileage per RAC at time of burst .

I bought two tyres. I generally fit them in matching pairs. I have the "old" back tyres moved to the front and the new tyres put on rear. (As a front wheel drive the car uses three pairs of front tyres to one pair of rear.) The tyre was sent to Continental for examination. Eventually, I got a response - boilerplate - saying they had examined the tyre and there was no manufacturing defect. The retailer won't do anything, and an independent examination by the UK tyre Manufacturers Association (independent?) will cost more than the tyre. So goodbye Continental Tyres forever after thirty years of specifying Continental.

As a Customer Service Manager myself, I felt the need to write to your organization. I am writing to express my EXTREME frustration and disappointment in both Hyundai and Continental for the predicament that I find myself in with my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS.
I was driving the car on Friday, August 30, and the tire pressure indicator light came on. I called my husband who inspected the tires and saw a serious bubble in the driver's front tire. We immediately drove to the nearest Hyundai, Wayne Hyundai, in Wayne, NJ, to have the car inspected. Upon inspection, it was determined that the front driver and the front passenger tires both had serious bubble issues; and, the car was deemed "unsafe to drive....must replace both front tires." These are Continental Conti Pro Contact 215-45-17 tires ($164.00 each installed).
Being that the tires were under "warranty", Wayne Hyundai suggested that we contact Continental directly for further instructions. Unfortunately, at 1:00 pm Friday, they were closed for the Labor Day Holiday; and, we had to wait until Tuesday, September 3, to contact them. The car was useless to us for the entire weekend and remained in our garage. Once, we contacted them, Continental "Customer Service?" told us that we had to go to a local authorized dealer, Dave's Tire, in Boonton, NJ, to have the tires inspected before anything could be determined. Lynn in Customer Service did not provide us with a claim # and was very rude to us after being on hold for over 20 minutes.
Upon going to Dave's Tire, we were told that this was due to "road hazard" (as we sadly discovered these low profile tires are famous for). Dave had to contact Continental himself for a claim # that he said we should have been given by Continental CS. Much to Dave's surprise, we were told we would only be given a "one-time good will credit of 50%." The cost would be $148.79 adjusted to $74.40 with a mounting fee of $20 - cost to us $94.40. We went home, called Continental Customer Service again and tried to speak with a Supervisor twice. After waiting on hold for quite a while again, they reluctantly put us through to a Supervisor's voicemail; and, no one called us back (shocking)!
To add insult to injury, both Dave's Tire and Mike from Global Hyundai's Service Department informed us that we could not change to a "standard" tire as this Elantra model does not support standard tires. Dave's Tire also said that this happens over and over again with these low profile tires...due to road hazard, i.e. potholes, etc. He stated that the same customers come back every 3 months or so for replacements for the same issue. FABULOUS...... Much to our dismay, we now have a new vehicle with tires that are unsafe to drive in conditions found in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area.
So where to go from here....we have to pay for low profile tires we don't even want on a new car that I am still paying for. WOW....am I disappointed. If I had known about these low profile tires on this Elantra model, I would have NEVER purchased this vehicle...I don't even know how in good conscience, Hyundai and Continental can even put these types of tires on their vehicles and claim Hyundai Assurance...I sure as heck am not assured that we won't be seriously injured by a blowout....as I have read many reviews on the Better Business Bureau's website with the same exact issues...and the same exact lack of customer service or satisfaction by Continental. I sure wish I had done my homework on this one!
I believe that minimally Continental should reimburse us for the $94.40 per tire that we have to pay Dave's Tire. By the way, we are still waiting for the replacement tires to come in. Therefore, my husband has my vehicle; and, I have no vehicle indefinitely. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. I will also be reporting Continental to the Better Business Bureau (along with everyone else). My contention is that these tires should not be sold in this area, if at all.

I have a 2010 VW CC that has been meticulously serviced. It is equipped with Continental Tires. I had zero problems until I hit 18,000 miles and then the tire noise was awful. I took it back to the VW Dealer for the factory service interval at 20K and had them do a workup on the noise. They called it "Tire Chop" and said it was normal. They rotated the tires, which was scheduled to be done at 20K anyway, and the noise was worse. Keep in mind, these Conti OEM tires also show up on Mercedes. I had a 2008 MBZ E350 with the same tires. That car didn't see many miles from me and I let it go with 11,000 miles on it. I saw the car again when it hit 20,000 miles and the Conti OEM tires sounded almost as bad as on my VW CC.
VW has said to others that they don't warranty the tires, so go talk to Conti. My position is different. VW and Mercedes, you chose to use these tires and they represent your vehicle. If they don't make me happy, I'm not happy with your car. The VW is at the end of its lease on July 26, 2013 and VW is going to get it back. I have to laugh at the fight I know is coming at turn in time. They sent me a tire depth gauge and said I would be charged for excess wear. So, they know the tires they put on the car are ** and they intend to try and get me to pay for new tires when I turn it in. My solution to VW is what millions of other drivers have done. It's called TOYOTA. My replacement TOYOTA came equipped with FIRESTONE Tires. Yes, my little Japanese car assembled in the USA has FIRESTONE Tires on it. Goodbye VW, and that's forever. You only get one shot at my wallet. Mercedes, you are in the same boat with VW. Change your tire supplier and we might talk again. CONTINENTAL TIRES, once a great name. Today, it’s unreliable, overpriced and a brand to reject.

I bought a Nissan Versa in October 2012 with only three original miles. Within five months of local driving, the tires felt spongy... they actually felt spongy the day I drove off the dealer lot. The ride feels like a floating experience with little road traction. I accidentally turned a corner too close to the curb and hit the curb, not exceptionally hard, but hard enough to feel it. Within a week, the tire was flat. Prior to purchasing the Nissan, I had rented a PT Cruiser, a Chevy HR, and had the same experience... all with Continental Tires. I realize I shouldn't be hitting curbs, but really, when a tire costs $140 for a "small" tire, shouldn't it be a little more durable and shouldn't the manufacturer be willing to compensate something for it? Maybe this is just part of our "discard it" societal mentality, but it sure gets annoyingly expensive to have to replace these needed tires to get around.

After 3 hrs and 130 km. driven to get it fixed, we were on the road. Still on day 1, we got to destination 2.5 hrs from home with another flat. This was a rock that punctured the tire. That was another 3 hrs and over 100 more km. on the car to get it fixed. My story started when I bought a brand new e350 Mercedes on 12/22/12 with Continental Tires. After 2 weeks, it had about 500 miles on it. While I was driving on the freeway at a speed of about 75mph, my car started wagging. I found out my left front tire blew, like exploded, as if a bomb went off from the inside of the tire. I DID not hit any curb or pothole. I went to the Mercedes dealer hoping they can repair it. They told me they're beyond repairable, and there's a surprise to this. My right front tire also has a bubble that is not repairable and is unsafe to drive. I had to buy 2 front tires and paid $627.00 to be exact. I called the dealer where I bought the car. The internet sales manager told me, “Oh, bring it here and we will see. We should be able to reimburse you. It should come with warranty."
I drove to San Jose from South City, which was about 50 miles. I argued/disagreed with them that something was not right about this tire. It’s a brand new car with new tires that just blow up. And not only one tire, but two. I DID not get anything from them. They said it DID not come with warranty. I let it go. Life has to go on right? After 1 month, the new right tire that I just bought, I found it has a slit on the side and it's losing air pressure. I had to call Triple A two days ago to inflate it, and I have an appointment with the dealer (another one close to home) this Friday to replace it. I made sure I have two years warranty since it is so unreliable. I have to pay extra for that of course.
So hear this on 5/26, it’s now a 6- month old car (still brand new right?). I was driving to work and passed by the busy intersection. While driving at a very slow speed since it's a busy intersection, I hit a very shallow curb softly. After 10 minutes and about 10 seconds, my tire sensor went off! Wahh, I have an exploded tire again on the left rear, brought to Sears, it's irreparable and, I have to pay $383 again. I made sure I have a 3-year warranty. I was reading forums/blogs and there are lots of us who are dissatisfied consumers. This tire is very unsafe and it needs to be recalled off the market. The company has to pay the damages of these consumers. Thank you.

One month later, the same tire gets a nail in it. Patched it up. The same month, a nail goes inside the right passenger back tire. I brought it to the garage and I patched it up. By now, I am angry that BMW sells me trash. Two months later, my right back tire on the driver side goes flat. I bring it to the garage and once they put it on the jack, you can notice the steel wiring from the Run Flats coming out the tire just destroying itself. I only had about 10,000 miles on these tires. The tires are very weak.
I strongly recommend you don't buy any Continental tires. BMW wants me to pay $216 per tire and charge me for labor. In all, it would've charged me $1000+. I hung up the phone and immediately purchased Bridgestone Potenzas on Tirerack.com for $138 a piece. I am now very satisfied. My mother also had to replace two Continental tires on her Mercedes ML 350 only after 12,000 miles of use. She hit a curb the first time and it exploded. The second set only had 500 miles on them when I had to brake extremely hard, to avoid deer that ran in front of me. What followed was alarming to me. The tires tread had gouged in the area where it contacted the pavement which resulted in severe flat spots. At 10,000 miles, I went back to the dealer and the tires were in bad condition, but with my car expertise I thought the dealer was trying to make a buck or two on me. I drove it to my Mercedes-Benz dealership in Coconut Creek and was I surprised to find out my tires were in dangerous conditions at 15,353 miles.
What upsets me the most are the ridiculous explanations you get at the dealerships. I was told that's the way the Continental Tires 255/50 R19 4X4 wear out, even if their warranty says otherwise. I live less than 2 miles from work. I have never been interested in performance cars but rather safety for my family on the road. I understand the tires are a problem but how can Mercedes continue to use such a low quality tire on their vehicles? As a consumer, it's hard to grasp the idea that car manufacturers really do not care about our safety after all but just their bottom line. I'm disappointed that even with my tire warranty purchased with the vehicle, they refuse to admit that the tires on my vehicle are of low quality and dangerous. My understanding when purchasing the vehicle was that Mercedes-Benz was much more than just any luxury vehicle. It was a vehicle you could count on. Excitement took over my senses when I purchased my first Mercedes, but now I can honestly say I would never recommend this car and tire to anybody in their right mind.

The noise was still there, and the noise and the ride was like a 4 x 4 vehicle. I called service and told them the noise was still there and the car drove horribly. The car was perfect up until my service.
I arrived at my appointment, and the service agent asked to go for a test ride first prior to taking the vehicle. Upon leaving the driveway, she immediately said, "Oh, I hear the noise." She then told me that it was the result of "uneven wear" on the tires. I asked her how they are going to fix it. I was told "they can't" and that "the tires need to be replaced." She told me that it would be at my expense and that Volkswagen is not liable for this. She offered to rotate the tires back to the original way they were, but that would not solve it. She then told me the tires have to be rotated every 5k, or else, this will be the result. I asked, "Then why didn't the service agent inform me of this initially and why is the sticker they placed on my windshield for my next service states March 2013?" It is one year later which would definitely exceed the 5k. I've contacted the service manager, who passed me onto VW Customer Care, which then put me in touch with the district manager, who now claims that all they will do is give me a 25% discount towards new tires. I still wanted my money back, but they said they wouldn't give me the two tires because I had already pulled them off.
I bought a new 2000 Nissan Frontier crew cab and it came with Generals on it. They were noisy and couldn't keep them balanced. I pulled them off at 12,000 miles and had Michelin LTX M/S installed since they were the only other manufacturer of that size 255/65r16. I've never left Michelin LTX M/S. I got 90,000 from one set, 95,000 from another and I am on my third set on a Nissan Titan. I worked in a tire store and saw some crazy stuff, but nothing tops the unsafe tires Continental General manufactures! Do not put Continental or General tires on any vehicle or trailer you value! Do so at your own peril!

I bought a set of new Continental tires for my 2003 Passat on December 13, 2010. From then up to December 14, 2011, I have had three flats, two of which required new tires. Both of those were blowouts while driving. I have owned the car for nine years and I drive the car less than 10K/year. I have never experienced anything like this with my car's tires.

We purchased tires for our R 500 in late June of 2011. Early December 2011, a loud noise began in the front left tire. After further inspection, we saw that the tire had large pieces of the rubber compound missing, almost like bubbles or voids in the compound. This prompted us to look at each of the other 3 tires. Both front tires are in the same poor premature condition. We immediately contacted Tire America in Matthews NC, and they contacted Continental. Continental's response is that they will cover the cost of the 2 new tires.
Their rational is that half the tread is gone, one the 2 front tires, not the 2 back tires which have no voids in the compound. These tires have been rotated and balanced via Mercedes, and Tire America, as we have purchased a plan that allows us to do so at no additional charge. I agree that half of the tread is gone on the two front tires only, that had to have been faulty or blemished at time of manufacturing. These tires are supposed to have a 40,000 mile warranty, we have put 12,000 miles on the tires.
The offer of 50% is in no way equivalent to fair. The tires are sub par, faulty from the factory, dangerous, and leave Continental in a very liable position based on the multitude of complaints I see online, that are all referencing the exact same problem. We contacted Continental 2 times via phone, and 1 time via email, and no follow up was made from Continental. Continental has lost our business, and should do what is called for legally, and recall the tires, and replace them at no charge to the consumer, based on the number of complaints in such a short period. I am furthering this concern with the BBB and NCDT.

I was traveling on I-385 near Greenville SC when a belt broke on my right front tire with a hand size chunk separating. I had my wife, daughter, and two small grand kids in the ford expedition. I found the next continental tire dealer, which was a tire kingdom. My tire had about 80% tread left on them.
The counter man said he would call continental about the warranty, but if I didnt have my original receipt it wouldn't do any good. So I asked for the # and called them myself. They also said if I didn't have my receipt they couldn't do anything. I asked the guy what did the receipt have to do with the tire going out and putting my family in danger. He said I could have gotten the tire from anywhere. I then told him the receipt shouldn't make any difference, since they manufactured it.
This caused me to spend a 185.00 on a tire right at Christmas since I was 150 miles away from home. I informed him if this was the warranty they had, I wouldn't be buying any more continental tires. By the way, I have three vehicles. I will inform everyone I meet of the service I received. If I manufactured something I would be proud to stand behind the quality. With your atttitude about your quality, the government shouldn't allow you to be open, especially when peoples lives are riding on your quality. For as I'm concerned someone should be locked up, the same as a regular thief. I'm sure I'll never hear from you guys, so have a good Christmas.

I was driving on I-30 W, going 60 mph, and my tire (225/45/17 R91H) blew on my 2011 VW Jetta. Luckily, I was able to pull over without an accident. I have only had the car 5 months and it has 10,500 miles on it. The dealer told me there was nothing they could do and refused to give me the number for Continental. I finally got in contact with Continental and they told me the warranty only covered manufacturer's defects.

I have a 2011 Smart car that I purchased in April, and my left rear tire has to be replaced today, with less than 7,500 miles driven on it. I'm very discouraged about this, and hope that I can contact the company for a refund. I have to spend over $100 on something that I believed would last for more than 8 months!

I leased a 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan SE at the end of July 2011. It came with Continental Conti Pro Contact tires (235/55 R 17 99H). My tires are less than 5 months old. I had to replace my right rear tire yesterday and I noticed a bubble in my right front tire, which I will now have to replace. In the almost 20 years I have been driving, I have never had to replace 2 brand new tires. I've never purchased Continental tires before and I will never purchase them again.

Continental Tires replaced my Audi A4 tires with 4 Continental DWS tires. Within 2 months, one tire's side wall ruptured while on the freeway. Luckily I have the warranty from America's Tire. Hopefully it should be replaced without a fee.

This is regarding Continental ContiPro tires 17". In 20 months, I have had to replace 5 tires on my brand new car which I purchased in February 2010. The VW dealership suggested that it was my low-profile rims but 5 tire replacements in a little over a year and a half. Mind you, the new tires cost around $225.00.
