This is my 4th blowout in 5 months. Hit a pothole....Blowout (2). Curb your tire....Blowout. Run over unseen object ....Blowout. Cost. 310.00 per front tires. 360.00 per rear tires. Hands down the worse tires ever on a luxury car. Stay away low profile tires regardless if that's all there is because the stress, frustration and cost is not worth it.

I bought a new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas two years ago direct from Volkswagen that came with Cross Continental Sport 255/50/r20 tires. The tires have had to be repaired or replaced individually 4 times in 2 years. A few days ago while I was working out of town my right rear tire exploded out the sidewall when I was going 60-70km hr getting onto a highway bridge at night. Sure the road was a bit bumpy but there were no potholes or anything I went over. There was no shoulder on the bridge so I was forced to drive on the rim for 4 km. This is outrageous for tires that cost $350 a piece. Someone is going to get hurt if these aren’t recalled. If anyone has these specific tires on their vehicles I would highly suggest replacing with any other brand, even the cheapest tires would be better and safer than these.

I really thought I was losing my mind until I read these reviews. I’ve replaced 5 tires in a little of a year. On my 2016 e350 December 31, 2020 I hit a pot hole 2 blowouts.. I said okay my fault I thought... but I kept replaying in my head saying I wasn’t going that fast but I accepted it and kept moving. 6 month later I accidentally hit a curb not hard at all two blowouts... Yesterday I’m driving and back tire hits something on the road that a million other cars rode over.. I get a blowout. Yeah I’m done. They are poor tires. These have been the most blowouts I’ve had in over 30 years of driving... I’m dead serious. I don’t get blowouts and it’s more than a coincidence.

Within the past week, I've experienced two (2) blowouts while operating my 2017 A6 on the freeway(s): The first (1st) caused collision damage from the force of the tire literally exploding (guess who's stuck paying for the deductible). The second (2nd) occurred (three (3) days later) while I was doing the speed limit on I-696 in the middle of the day with clear skies and just out of nowhere, I hear a loud pop!

I contacted the dealership (Audi of Rochester Hills) to convey the aforementioned, their Service Center Manager stated that they recommend either Michelin or Pirelli tires: Then why are you selling vehicles off the lot with Continental tires?! Outside of leaving my comments on this site, I'll also be contacting the BBB in addition to an Attorney. I am beyond grateful that no one was injured during either incident, however, I'm certain that this company has been made aware of their piss poor products! If I could give zero (0) stars, I would have: Please stay safe everyone and stay away from Continental tires!

After googling the problem I found others that had the same problem with Continental tires. Needless to say I will replace all 4 tires with a more one. Being a senior I felt my life was in danger if it would’ve happened going 65 mph.

Purchased a new 2019 Ford F-450 Limited with 19.5” Continental tires from factory. At only 18,500 miles the tires are worn out on the inside and outside edges. There are also chunks of the tires coming off. Vehicle serviced at Ford and there was never a mention of the tires wearing out. Noticed tires having issues and returned to Ford Country in Las Vegas where I was told that it was my fault they were wearing out. Was referred to third party tire company who informed me that they constantly replace these tires on F-450’s. These are on the front of this F-450 which if they would have failed could have resulted in serious injury or death!

Cost to replace front tires with only 18,500 miles to ensure my safety and the safety of others around me on the road was almost $950 at my expense! How is it that Continental Tires and the Ford Motor Company are allowed to risk the safety and lives of people? If anyone is interested in more information, I have pictures that prove this!

Almost 5 months later (mid-April 2020), I have since had the winter tires removed and yet still no rebate received from the company. Seems like a scam to me. I've tried contacting them; get the "so sorry, it takes time"; then they tell me they sent the rebate 6 weeks ago, (which I have still not received) but they will re-send; so I will have to wait another 4-6 weeks. Completely unacceptable. Regardless of how many redemptions they say they have had, no rebate should take this long to process. Very poor customer service in my books.

It wasn’t there only a few hours ago. These tires are only a year old and I have them check with every oil change to make sure there is no nails or anything in them. It’s ridiculous these tires only got 13K on them the tread is still good on them and I make sure to avoid potholes and curbs. Continental needs to check their tires for defects cause a year old tired shouldn’t be getting bubbles.

A couple of minutes later we heard a boom sound and I managed to slow down and pulled to the right side. My sons (40 & 36) had to remove all our luggage. They got busy changing the tire. I called 911 because the semi trucks are not moving to the left. So I get out and walk quite a distance behind our car to direct traffic. My younger son is watching out for his brother. This was a thirty minute ordeal. I was yelling (they can read my lips) and motioning for everyone to move over. When these trucks are zooming by going 80 and 90 mph, it's scary. Purchased a new Audi Q7 that had the Continental run flat tire. At 3000 miles, the tire exploded through the sidewall and went flat immediately. The Vehicle had to be towed to the garage and the Walser dealership could not locate a replacement so our Audi was 3 days in the shop. The dealership did not wish to contact Continental saying that Continental would not evaluate the tire fairly and contacting Continental was a waste of time.

Then, I called Continental and was told that only the dealer could advance a claim. My speed at the time of the blowout was 40 mph and I was on a city street and these tires had only been driven on turnpike and city streets. The cost of the new replacement tire was $391. Since my experience with Audi and Continental Tire, I would advise anyone to read several reviews pertaining to this inferior Continental tire product.

In May I purchased a new 2020 Dynamax Isata 3 Motorhome that came equipped with 6 Continental Vanco Four Season LT tires. In January while I was having new valve stems installed on the dual rear tires we discovered a total (full circumference) side wall separation on the inner dual tire. I looked up the Continental Warranty and it says tire is covered for full replacement for defects during the first 12 months or 2/32" tread wear. This tire falls into those categories. BUT, my local Continental Tire dealers refused to honor the warranty because I had not purchased the tires from them and "Continental doesn't reimburse us for our expenses". One even told me that Continental requires the dealer to return the tires to Continental for inspection and if Continental not agree that the tire is covered under warranty they will refuse the reimburse dealer AND return the damaged tire to the dealer at the dealer's expense!

Dealers all told me to take it back to where I purchased the tire. I called the RV dealer that sold me the vehicle and was told that they don't warranty tires - I had to take the tire back to the tire manufacturer. I showed the dealer the email from Continental instructing me to return to where I purchased the vehicle. After referring my email to the RV Manufacturer they replied with an email instructing me to take my tire problem to Mercedes who supplied the chassis with the tires. Still hopeful, I contacted the Mercedes Customer Service Center and was told to take the tire to local Mercedes Service dealership for inspection. I contact the MB dealer and emailed photos of the tire separation and the dealer phoned back telling me it looked like "run flat" damage and wasn't covered under warranty.

Considering the tire unsafe I arranged to buy a replacement tire "at cost" from a sympathetic Continental dealer. When I had the tire removed by my preferred tire shop I asked them to reinspect the tire, inside and out. They dismounted and inspected the tire for possible road hazard or run flat. After inspection they found "spots on the inner liner that were separating and not from impact. Also the tire was not run flat at any point...the inner sidewall of the tire is starting to do it as well. The tire appears to be a workmanship and defect issue and should be covered under the manufacturer."

Note that this wasn't some one-man tire shop but an award winning regional company with 5 shops including the truck tire service center where this inspection was performed by multiple tire specialists. To date I have not had any satisfactory response from Continental Tire. Based upon my experience I would be hard pressed to recommend Continental Tires to anyone. Note that.

Just bought Model X. 2 tires popped in under 3months. In 1st issue Continental Tire sent me three times to get the tire inspected. None of the dealers knew why I was there or that they were Continental's dealers. When I put my foot down at New Millenium Tires, Continental finally sent me to Canadian Tire who sent the tire to their inspection location. I lost 3 days worth of pay for Continental's negligence. In 2nd issue, Tire had no air leak so Tesla service technician couldn't figure out why and where the air was leaking from. He eventually had to over fill the tire with air to see why the tire was not staying at 45. It popped in the service center in front of 5 people while tech was explaining to us that he has never seen something like that. With no air leaks the tire just bubbled when tech over filled it with air and popped. Tesla said tire is not under their warranty so manufacturing warranty may be my option.

I called Continental Tire support and they said Tesla should be able to cover manufacturing warranty by sending the tire back to Continental. I was lucky that the tire burst while the tech was showing me so I had enough heads that witnessed the manufacturing defect play out live. Next phase was Continental and Tesla arguing about who would send the tire back and how to get the credit for it. Tesla argued that they don't do anything with tires and I am on my own now to take it where ever I want while Continental on the phone said that Tesla has 100% full option of sending the tire back but they CHOOSE to not do so. After 1hr of arguing Tesla agreed to send it. At the moment Tesla will be sending the tire to Continental service center from where Continental would issue the rebate back to Tesla and then Tesla will reimburse me, that is if it's inspected as a manufacturing defect. I have paid $525x2= $1050 for the two issues now.

In short, Tesla is using the wrong tire for Model X. Either the 275/45/20 110V are not equivalent to X's weight or Continental's Conti Cross Contact LX Sport is a garbage tire that doesn't live up to its name/value. I understand that this can happen to anyone at any time but after driving for 30years on the same roads and never ever experiencing it with other manufacturers, it is HIGHLY UNUSUAL that the same issue happens to a car in under 3 months. At this rate, if I die due to an accident that is due to Tesla and Continental's negligence and poor quality. This review will stay as my caution to all other living beings. I cannot stress on the fact that these two companies need to look into their products before more accidents occur and may lead to fatalities. Waiting to see what sort of a response I get from both or either of them. A shocked, scared for life and highly disappointed mother of 2 young children/passengers/ consumer. #tesla #continentaltire

The tires are mounted on a Mercedes Benz SL 400 Roadster that was purchased new in 2015. You can’t “rotate” the tires because the front and rear tires are not the same sizes called a "split fitment" which translates to the rear tires are larger than than the front tires. The actual problem is: the tread is worn down to the belt plies and the bead filler is exposed. If you run your hand over the tread face of the tire, the steel belt plies puncture the skin! 17,563 original miles. 71-year old driver with a perfect driving record. These tires are the poorest quality I've ever seen!

Ford, for some reason, chose to put Continental LT275/65R18 tires on my new F-250. The truck is only 1 1/2 yrs old and two of the tires have failed! After having them balanced at a local tire shop, I went back to the Dealer, O'Brien Ford in Shelbyville, KY. They went straight to a road force balance that is supposed to provide a simulated driving force condition. Two of the four tires on the truck failed the test miserably!

They called Continental while I stood at the counter and were told the tires were out of the 12 month warranty. I asked for the phone and spoke to Milguelmo myself. He offered to cover 60% which I said was unacceptable given they have a 50% failure rate for my experience. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they were in a meeting. When I asked for a phone call later in the day, he said Marcos would not call the same day. Imagine that! Even when the call escalated, they still would not and as of two days later, have not called me.

I then called the Ford hotline, explained the issue and asked Ford to cover the remaining 40% (about $300). I spoke to Anna who was very nice, who said she would call my dealer to get more information and put me on hold. I waited 30 minutes total for her to return and finally hung up. I called Ford again and spoke to Noreen with broken English skills. I asked her to look up my file and read my notes. She said they were having phone problems and that Anna called the dealer and the offer was for 60% coverage only. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and they too were in meetings. I asked for a return call same day and was told no guarantee that would happen. Now 3-days later, still no call from Supervisor Renee. I explained that I would be replacing this truck next year as a business vehicle, and wondered if Ford was willing to lose my business over $300. She gave no comment.

I would not recommend anyone buying Continental tires and because of Ford not stepping up to the plate to help a customer with a 50K truck, maybe switching to Dodge next year! Poor customer service can cost a company business and I expected more from Ford having been a faithful customer for the past 40 plus years! No company should tolerate a 50% failure rate and no consumer should either!

Ourisman notifies us that the brand new tires on the car are not under warranty, to contact the manufacturer. Lo and behold Continental Tires company’s warranty does not cover this either. So now we get to pay $106 for a new tire on the new car purchased 8 months ago. Oh and hours of wasted time and frustration. I agree with some other consumers comments. I have owned three brand new Honda Odyessy minivans, all of them came with Continental tires on them from the dealer, and have been nothing but trouble. When I lived back in the North East, the dealership I purchased my vehicles from honored the warranty and replaced the offending tires until it was time to buy new and upgrade to a better tire. Out here in the West, however, I was sold the Continentals, and before the warranty ended, two out of the four replacement Continentals had defects, but the dealership (which does all my service and tire rotations) are claiming that there was 'uneven wear', and that voided my warranty with Continental.

My guess is that they're losing a fortune on these shoddy tires, because they didn't even suggest new Continentals as replacements, not that I would have EVER accepted that brand again. I ended up buying my usual replacement tire brand, and in the future, I will insist that new Hondas I purchase have these put on from the first, whatever the increase in cost.

I bought a new Maxima 18 months ago and was just now outside San Antonio on an Interstate Highway and had a blowout on the left rear ProContact Continental tire, Standard Load Radial 245-R18. Tire peeled off the rim, almost instantly, and left a thin rubber strip on the inside and outside of the wheel rim. The strip protected the rim fairly well but I am now very nervous about the other three tires. Also, the lug wrench would not remove the lug nuts and the nuts actually stripped the wrench! Dealer was of no help and directed me to Continental. Continental's representative was of no help.

My Maxima has been driven very conservatively for 10,600 miles and I do not understand how a tire can fail so easily, especially since the tire has had no known abuse what-so-ever. I am considering purchase of another brand of four tires to replace the three original tires plus the replacement for the blowout. What a fine how-do-you-do from Continental. Too many years of driving with excellent tires to let these junkers get by without a review/warning to others... Bought a used E350 Wagon with 10K miles on it and these ContiPro tires; had gone through 4 tires by 40K miles driving the same roads with other tires which was about 1 tire-failure-per-8K-miles. Mercedes contacted me after I complained about replacing the 3rd tire in less than a year and wanted to know if I had an issue. My issue is why build such a nice car only to ruin it with bad tires? Someone mentioned ‘class action suit’ I’d be glad to join in on one but rarely do CAS actually help the consumers. In my case I had OEM tires (new car) and no warranty applies to OEM tires. But the four on the car now do have road hazard covered by the manufacturer. None of the four replacements have failed yet.

In the meantime I have my Michelin XICE3 tires on for the winter. Granted these are 245/17 tires, there’s nowhere near the issues of the ContiPro tires, driving over the same roads and through the same potholes that caused blister and blowouts on the ContiPros. (Granted there’s a slight series difference of 005 240/245 series but that’s not the issue when it comes to these excessive tire failures of the ContiPro tires.) I believe the Continental tire OEM were simply throw-away tires with defective issues slapped on the new cars as there are no road hazard warranties on OEM tires from the tire manufacturer, when applied to a new car.

Beyond the safety issue has been the extreme inconvenience of replacing so many tires in such a short amount of time, including the waste of $1200 worth of money to purchase the replacements. I noted at the dealer the last time, the 2018 wagons all had Michelins in 240/18 for the sport suspension trim, which are possibly —or hopefully— not throwaway OEM tires.

The Mercedes dealership said I should put Conti Pro Contract 245/40 on my 2008 Mercedes and my final bill for 4 new tires etc. was $1,510. I took it in on May 17, 2017 after buying them on July 16, 2016 which is 10 months of driving on them. They had been driven 4,866 gentle driving miles on them and they told me that the back tires only had 40% wear left on them! So they had told me this is the tire that Mercedes recommended.

I am retired now and don't drive my car more than 5,000 miles a year with no rain, snow or sleet weather and I don't drive fast. So this is the worst wearing tires I have ever bought and have owned many cars and many Mercedes. I would not recommend this Continental Tires to anyone and will never buy them again nor will I buy from a Mercedes dealership as when I asked them what the warranty was on the tires, as in the past from other tire dealerships pro rate the tires when they don't wear well. They told me there was no warranty and that they wore like this because the back of the car got the most wear. I went on-line and read some reviewers who had the same experience.

I have owned a BMW 3-Series since 2002. I love to drive and was instantly in love with the performance of these cars. Being a two year old car, the first thing I did was research tires and put new ones on it. I owned that car for 15 years without ever having an incident despite crazy Texas weather (and, let's face it, other Texas drivers!). This year I finally decided to buy my first new BMW. (Understand that this is not trashing BMW, just their choice of stock tire). In March we had one of our big Texas storms as I was driving on a back road to my sister's place. I was driving as I always do and being a bit cautious due to wet roads, so I was going a little under the speed limit. I have always put a lot of value on having great tires on my cars through the years, but for some reason I never thought twice about the choice of stock tire on my new car. I guess I figured their cars are so high performance that I felt confident the tires would be as well.

Driving on a road I had literally driven thousands of times, the car hydroplaned across an intersection and I slammed into a heavy iron fence. I was in complete shock, slightly injured and my new car was completely totaled. The car's safety devices had protected me, but I was so confused at how the situation could have gotten away from me in such a way that despite having never wrecked before I had just been in a one car accident which totaled my new car! Fast forward three months... I have another new BMW, of course, I mean that car saved my life! I am out driving it one day, again with the stock tires and while trying to avoid an idiot not paying attention on the road, I noticed that my 2016 car did not stop on a dime like all of my previous experience with my 2000. Something I had not really taken notice of before with all of the changes and differences in going from any 2000 vehicle to a 2016 and getting used to how it handles.

Weeks later while driving on a backroad I often drive, I went across a spot on the road that stays wet due to a natural spring that leaks across it on a bend in the road. Again, I have driven this road literally thousands of times through the years. It was a sunny, clear day and I was doing the posted speed limit (which I admit is not always the case), but having my niece with me I am extra careful. Despite my caution, this time, my car fishtailed over the wash. I was caught off guard, but ultimately recovered fine and drove on. This incident definitely made me take pause.

When I got home I started researching these stock tires that BMW was using and conveniently had pictures of the ones from my bad accident for insurance purposes. The tires on the BMW I had wrecked and the tires on the one I had just fishtailed in were the same tire, Continental ContiProContact SSR 225/45R18 91V * M * S. I was seeing lots of other people on the internet with a multitude of different high performance vehicles saying they had similar experiences with them. I have bought my tires from the same place for over 30 years, so I called them to find out for sure the type of tires I had always used on my car in the past with such great results and also inquired about this Continental tire I was having problems with now.

He confirmed my strong suspicion that, despite having "the same" tire performance ratings, users consistently complained about the Continental and that I would feel a significant difference if I switched them to the tire I had always bought in the past. Those tires are now ordered and I cannot wait to get them on my car! I issue you strong words of caution if your car has these tires on it: you cannot change them fast enough! I am definitely willing to sacrifice a few thousand miles in treadwear to stay as safe as possible on the roadways. This tire should certainly be looked at closely by Continental and get the necessary changes to prevent it from being a danger to users. Talk to your tire dealers and do your due diligence in research on the safety of your tires. It just may save your car, someone else's life, your life or the life of someone you love!!!

I am newly widowed and when my car was pulling, I took the car to the dealer who said I needed new tires. I asked the price and when I called the place my husband always got tires, the price was higher (turns out they were quoting a much superior tire). By May 1, 2017, I had had two blowouts on the Continental Conti Pro back tires----my first blowouts in my decades of driving.

I read review of the Continental Conti and weak side walls were mentioned over and over. I called the dealer expressing how unsafe I felt and they would do nothing except quote me an inflated price for putting on the Michelin tires my husband always had us drive on. I went to another tire place and bought the Michelins with the three ply rubber on the sidewalls. The Continental Conti Pro tire is unsafe----. Because the Hyundai service department didn't stand behind this product, I can no longer buy the Hyundai car and we own a 2011 and 2014 Hyundai Equus----cars I have always loved until this terrible tire experience. I hope no one is killed on the expressway with a blowout from these tires.

Just some background. I was a dealership technician for 10 years and service advisor for five so I have fairly solid knowledge with tires. I have dealt with dozens of consumers who created problems not the tire's "failure". I have a 2012 Mercedes E350 wagon with NEW Continental ContiProContact - 245/40R18 97H - All Season tires. I noticed driving locally my low tire light came on. Immediately pulled over as I know what driving on a low tire will do. I did not have any of the usual sidewall damage that occurs when a driver fails to stop driving on low air.

After plugging the obvious screw hole as I have done 100 times the tire failed to hold air. The tire had a pinch hole where the rim meets the sidewall. I am fumed that this brand new tire cannot be plugged due to what is clearly a common complaint with these tires experiencing blowouts, etc. There is no way I should be buying a tire other that poor design and/or this tire not compatible with car, although it states so. I have no problem accepting responsibility for my error but this is clearly a defect and I am afraid to let my wife drive an infant with tires that will so easily pinch the sidewall and be prone to blowout. Well Continental? Take a look at this tire? Do you really care about the end user?

I purchased a 2006 Mercedes E350 from Crown Motors. I was told all new tires were put on which turned out not to be true. They offered to pay for 2 and I the car owner paid for the other 2. After owning the car outright about 1 1/2 years later I had a blowout and caused the tires damage causing all the passenger airbags to deplore -- absolutely new body damage but even though front passenger tire blew out car uncontrollably veered to the right and rear tire collided with curb. I paid over $15,000 of my hard earned money and was informed by Geico the car would be totaled and Geico is charging me with a mini accident which will be held against me. If a defective tire caused all the above damage I feel it is totally unjust to blame me. I didn't drive over anything -- was not speeding -- and feel the tire company should bear the brunt of this damage.

Fortunately I was not injured and there was no body damage to the car. In fact the adjuster from Geico said the car was in excellent condition with low mileage. This is not the first Mercedes that I have owned -- in fact it's my fifth. Your tire was most definitely defective to have a blowout while doing 35 miles an hour since that was the speed limit on the road I was traveling. I strongly feel you should be accountable for this and not me -- waiting to hear your favorable response to this matter. Believe me I will not let this safety issue go -- you should own up to the responsibility of a faulty tire to cause a blowout which I have never had in all my years of driving which is since a total of at least 55+ years.

All Mercedes previously had Michelin tires and never had a problem -- not even a flat tire. How strange Continental Tires has a blowout. Again waiting to hear from you. Lost a lot of money on the purchased car and my insurance unfortunately will be increased. Would appreciate your earliest response to this matter. All tires treads were inspected. On 2/27 at approx 8 pm my front driver side tire blew out at 60mph (outside temp approx 30 degrees) tread at 7 to 8/32. No nails no potholes. The inner sidewall of the tire blew up and the rip was about 3". Which caused damage to the rim (had to get it fixed). Thought it happens so I just replaced the tire at Discount Tires. A week later, on 3/6 the rear passenger tire blew out also on the inner sidewall while parked in the driveway between noon and 5 pm at approx 60 degrees outside temp. I drove it earlier for about 15 mins no more than 30mph (residential area), again no potholes no nail... just popped with no reason same... inner sidewall rip 3" (my tread tires in the rear were between 6.5/32 as I was told by Discount Tire rep).

The tires were nor over or underinflated. As I stated I had it inspected at Discount Tires while replacing the front one. I'm a little concerned as that would possibly mean my other 2 tires may go at any time now? Just on a side note, when the Discount Tire rep who was inspecting the tire/blow out, stated, that last month, they had 3 Mercedes' (one C class and two E class (like mine) in with same Continental tires blow outs.

So maybe it's something worth looking further into by Continental in case some of these tire needed to be recalled. Continental rep who contacted me omitted the answer to my question if tires are being/are recalled. Said no refund would be made as it was a preowned vehicle and there are exclusions because of such. So there you have it... safe tires... 1st time I own continental tires and let me assure you... the last. Please note... these are factory tires on Mercedes and VW... I replaced the wheels and tires on my Mercedes CLK350 and love the way these tires handle. Problem is the sidewalls are extremely weak. I was swerving away from a dumbass kid and hit a curb at around 20-ish mph. Doesn't seem like much for a brand new tire. But the outer wall was stripped to the wires. I barely put a ding on the wheel (which is soft anyway because it's lightweight aluminum), so there's no way I hit it as hard as looks. Fortunately the tire itself is literally brand new (less than 2,000 miles) and the warranty covers the replacement. But I have to say I'm disappointed. I'm worried now that if I hit a pothole they could blow out completely. As great as they feel, these tires can't handle the kind of rough handling my sports car was designed for. When these wear down in a few years I'll be looking into a different brand.

This is way too early to wear out.

After reading the fine print though - This car has staggered tires and can't be rotated so that mileage warranty is cut in half. Of course the warranty states that wear must be even and worn out is 1.6 mm and you must show proof the tires have be rotated. My MB recommended replacing tires now for $600+ for 2 tires. He never mentioned getting % reduction from early wearing of the tire. I agree with replacement after looking at the tires and my wife complaining something doesn't feel right with the car right now. Prior reviews complained of sidewall blowouts. Our Ford Focus 2015 Titanium has 19,000 trouble free miles with enough tread left for another 10,000 miles. Low Profile Tires are Problematic generally. Low profile times do not have good warranties like standard tires. I know! Who knew? No one tells car buyers this stuff. To get standard tires you need to select smaller rims so standard height tires can be installed. So, the low profile looks good, but robust wear is not possible if curbs are hit, potholes run over, or rocks or other debris clobber the tire. There simply is no enough distance for the tire to squish over common road small hazards.

Curbs struck by tires often pinch the sidewall and cause a blister or cut the tire. Too thick of sidewalls makes for a harsh ride and can reduce road grip/handling, which we will complain about as well. If rims are dented due to hitting curbs, tires will lose pressure. Rims usually have to be replaced after hitting curbs, or large potholes that damage rims.

There are different grades of Continental tires. I have purchased new cars where the tires lasted less than 18,000 miles without alignment or shock problems because the manufacturer installed the lowest priced tires possible. One other oddity about tires and dealers/manufacturers: Tires have posted pressure recommendations that may be different from the owner manual recommendations or even those posted on the door jam. Who is right? Turns out it is best to follow the tire pressures recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Oddly enough, dealers have inflated my Chevrolet Express Van tires to 35 PSI all four tires despite the recommended PSI of 55 Front and 80 (ok, can be as low as 60 rear if empty). Chevrolet Dealer inflated my tires to 35 PSI four times. I know to check tire pressure anytime I have service done now. Low or high tire pressures affect wear, handling and safety.

I swerved to avoid hitting a cat and barely even touched the edge of the curb and POW! my second tire was gone! The side walls on these things are pure crap! In addition, there is always an issue with tire pressure - I'll put air in all the tires as needed and a week later the darn light is back on again - on all four tires! The air just seems to leak out of the tires for no reason at all.

When I spoke to a tech at my dealership, he offered sympathies - sure helps me out a lot :-(. According to him, blowouts are common on these 'low profile' tires because they are 'soft'. Unfortunately, since there's no recall on my specific tire (ContiProContact P215/55 R 18 94) there's absolutely nothing they can do for me. Bought a 2014 Honda Odyssey with new ProContact Continental Tires. The dealership said these were new tires. The car only had 17,800 miles on it when we purchased it. Only 3 weeks later, while driving my daughter to a field trip, my back rear tire blew out. When I pulled over to the side of the road my tire was completely shredded. I've never seen a tire so tore up before! When the tire blew out I got to the side of the road asap. I did not continue to drive on it.

I'm thankful we did not get hurt, but the tire caused damage to my car. I'm trying to figure this out with my dealership but I am worried to continue to use these Continental Tires! These are completely defective and dangerous.

I purchased a new 2016 Volvo XC90 in January. Unfortunately this vehicle comes standard with Continental Sport Track tires. After several visits back and forth to the Volvo dealer here in Syracuse NY due to excessive vibration and no real resolution, I finally decided to replace the tires with a new set of Michelin's. The difference is incredible. No vibration and the ride is exponentially better. I am convinced that despite several attempt to road force balance the Continental tires they are fundamentally flawed. The dealer was respectful but likely put in a difficult position. If Volvo is looking to revamp their line and create a new image... start with a decent... Safe set of tires.

April of this year I purchased a new Honda Civic Coupe. It came with Continental ProContact TX tires size 215/R50/17. Last week after driving 2800 miles the low pressure light came on. Checking tire pressure I found the right rear tire was 8 lbs low. I added air and 2 days later the light came on and the same tire was low. There were no visible marks on the tire. I poured soapy water on the tire and found a tiny leak in the sidewall. I took the car back to the dealer who told me it was a puncture and charged me $155,00 to replace the tire. I'm sure it was a defect as I didn't hit anything. The dealer said tires are not their responsibility. They also said good luck trying to convince Continental it's a defect. I'm considering replacing all the tires. It will cost me approx. $700, but, I'll have peace of mind.

So I took it to the dealership where I was informed that I need to replace 2 of the tires and that wasn't covered by my extended warranty and would have to contact Continental tires. So I contacted them: The first time I was put on hold and no one ever came back on the line so after 20 minutes I gave up. I called them back the next day and they said they were going to put me on hold again and then hung up on me. I called them back a third time and they were extremely rude and told me that there was no warranty on those tires. Lucky for me when I purchased the vehicle I had bought insurance for all the tires at Discount Tires, so I went there.

They told me that 3 out of the 4 tires on the car were bad and needed to be replaced. So they were unfortunately replaced with 3 new Continental Tires. Then 2 of those went bad before the Jeep had even reached 25K miles on the odometer. They were replaced by Discount Tire again and I bought the insurance for the new tires. Now the 4 tire has blown out and my Jeep hasn't even reached 35K miles. There is no reason for a tire to be that bad and blow out at every opportunity. I will never be buying this tire again.

I bought a 2014 Subaru Outback two years ago. I have been the first and only owner of this vehicle. The vehicle came with Continental Tires, size 17. Since owning the car I have taken it in a few times for losing air pressure on them tires. Two times a nail was found in a tire. My vehicle has been undergoing regular servicing and tires rotated accordingly. At my last vehicle service at barely 24,000 miles I was told I would need to replace my tires as they have lost thread badly. Three days ago I found my vehicle with one of its tires with the air completely gone.

As a result I had to take the vehicle to the nearest tire center for repairs. There I was told all my tires have to be replaced. My spare tire was put on my vehicle. I pondered on this whole situation over the weekend wondering to myself why should I have to replace all four tires on a vehicle that only racked up 24,000 miles. The lowest quote I was getting was $640.00. I got on the phone and called Subaru and spoke to them about it. I was told there is nothing they could do and I would need to contact Continental, the tire manufacturer, and they provided me with the number.

I called Continental and spoke to a rep and went over the history of my vehicle and what was currently happening with my tires. Continental took my information and asked me to take the vehicle to the Subaru dealership for the tires to be inspected and if the problems with my tires have to do with normal wear and tear then they Continental will work with me on some form of discount to get the tires replaced. The rep told me to have the dealership call them with a report. I took the vehicle into the dealership and explain the whole situation to them. The service rep told me they will take a look and she told me not to have high hopes because she has never seen Continental pay for tire replacements.

Subaru looked at the tires and the Service Rep called Continental Tires with their report on the tires. The rep came back to the waiting area and with two thumbs up told me that Continental tires has agreed to pay 40% on the cost of each of the four tires. That came to a total saving of $208.00 and I call that a sweet deal. I gave a 3 rating because even though I was happy with the sweet deal I got on the replacement of the tires, I was not so happy with the durability of the original tires on my vehicle that I have to replace at barely 24,000 miles. Most of the tire centers I contacted during this experience were all quoting me tires that were warranted for up to 60,000 to 70,000 miles. I got Continental tires back on my vehicle due to the sweet deal. I hope they last me another, at least 50,00 miles.

Last October, I purchased a used 2009 Mazda 6 with virtually new Purecontact, 215/55R17 94V tires installed. The car initially felt like there was a small wheel imbalance, but nothing to be concerned with. By December, the vibration was becoming a bit more noticeable, so I took the car to a tire repair center thinking it was an alignment issue. They stated the car's alignment was perfect.

Two months later, the vibration was disconcerting, therefore I went back and it was reported that one tire/rim could not be balanced. I therefore purchased a new(used) rim and they were able to balance the tire/wheel combination. Within weeks, the vibration came back. As it was winter and there are good amount of pot holes in New Jersey, the fact that the other tire/rims were becoming an annoyance didn't alarm me, I just assumed the OEM rims from Mazda were the problem.

I replaced the rims in May and still had slight vibrations, but nothing like before. Two weeks later the car was once again exhibiting the severe vibrations. I finally ordered four new tires from Tire Rack, had them installed and the car is absolutely perfect. The tire service facility stated that there must be shifting belts within the tires, but as I didn't purchase them new, they had no recourse to file a warranty claim with Continental.

I asked Continental if there could be any reimbursement available for the replacement of these tires. I had saved the service receipts and have had my tire facility save the tires. I was quite annoyed at having spent over a $1,000 (new rims, alignment and multiple balance procedures) to diagnose a tire quality issue. Continental's response: "To be eligible for warranty, you will need to present a new vehicle registration form, new vehicle sales invoice showing date of purchase or proof of purchase of new tires." In this day and age I guess one can assume that tire manufacturing is a perfected art... at least not by Continental.

After having read all the reviews posted on this forum, I realized that these Continental tires are poorly constructed and it has nothing to do with luck or driving conditions etc which was my original thinking. In my case, the tires (P275x40x19) are 2-1/2 years old but I drive very little so these tires were driven less than 10,000 miles since I got them new installed by the Hyundai dealer. In fact, when I switched the tires last November to snow tires there was nothing visibly wrong with the tires.

Having kept them in storage over the winter, I recently re-installed these for the summer. The dealer informed upon coming to pick up the car, that both rear tires have bubbles on the sidewalls. Each tire has 2 bubbles within a couple of inches from each other. Since they were purchased more than a year, Continental has asked me to purchase 2 new tires and send these back to them for their inspection and at their own discretion they may offer a partial refund. FYI the tires have according to my dealer nearly 70% of the original thread.

I am sure these tires are poorly engineered and that they are definitely a hazard and should be pulled off the market. Just in case anyone wonders, I am a 64 year old driver. I drive very little and only drive maybe 4 days out of a whole week and then maybe 5 miles or less. I never drove over any potholes, construction sites or any other uneven or rough surfaces and hardly drive at speeds above 40 miles per hour. These tires are dangerous!! Continental's policy is consumer unfriendly. Their position is that all that take the time to complain are trying to take advantage and get something for free. In my opinion they should take complaints seriously, investigate closely these tires and pull them off the market and as a gesture of goodwill, offer new tires (Not the ProContact). Continental will lose more in the long run, by rejecting all these legitimate claims that consumers have with these tires!

At 34,000 miles I was told by the Subaru service center (I was there for regular scheduled maintenance) that the tires were bald and dangerous. The technician found the front tires at 4/32 and the rear tires at 3/32. These are considered dangerously low! As winter is here - I didn't want to drive on these tires in the snow - so I bought 4 brand new tires from Capital. NOT Continental. I've been leasing cars for (36 month leases) for nearly 20 years and I've never had to replace the tires because of tread wear before the lease was up!! Never. Ever. My 2014 Volvo XC70 came with Continental LX Sport. My wife hit a pothole in Quebec which is common in our winters and the sidewall blistered and had to be replaced. The car had less than 1000 Km. At the end of Sept. my wife rubbed a curb while parking, causing another sidewall blister and this tire had to be replaced. Now in Florida and just noticed a nickel sized blister on the first replaced tire, which my dealer has a 24 month guarantee.

To receive any compensation the company that carries the warranty insists that I bring the tire home. This will not happen. I have owned various vehicles over 50 years and never had any issues with tires. I seriously believe there is a very dangerous safety issue with these Continental tires and hope that somebody deals with this before anybody is killed. Potholes and rubbing on curbs while parking are very normal occurrences that should not result in sidewall failures.

Have a story that I hope will not be yours. Daughter bought a 2013 Ford Escape that had these above mentioned tires. One month later one tire blew and she had this replaced. This happened back in 2014 Sept. This year in November she came up from St. Louis to visit and was on 355 2 am Sun. morning and one tire blew. Picked her up and changed the tire to drive car to my residence. Same day googled "continental tires". The websites only had different companies that were closed -- except Walmart (not on top of list for tire evaluations) so went to Sam's to replace tire. Prior to going, took pics of tires and found a second tire also had the same marks but not yet blown. (see pics attached). Had tires replaced (Goodyear) so daughter could get home safely.

Contacted CONTINENTAL via email and they replied if I had the tires. Sadly no. Sam's scrapped the tires but had pics to send in to them. They replied this was caused by low tire inflation and not under warranty and that Sears was open on Sunday, why did I not go there. (Gee, I wonder as the inquire did not point the way and I have no confidence in their tires. Note: warranty has them changed out only with their tires). My answer the car's inflator detection was not on and the tires did have the proper pressure -- 36 psig.

I received a reply that the tires were not under warranty and that I choose to not go to sears (as this is on their website. Dummy me for not going direct to their website). They reviewed my pics and sent a check for 125$. Wow. New tires cost 533$. I would have at least been happy with 1/2 coverage, but alas, beggars cannot be choosers. Note: if you have issues with the tires please keep them even if one person evaluated. You still can get a second opinion. I'll let you all judge of the tires, me, and possibly we will all learn something. #2 full size render is the tire that showed the marks on the tire that still held air.

It was 26 degrees here in the UK the other day and whilst checking my car over, (2014 Volvo XC70) I discovered the front near side tyre had developed a bubble in the sidewall which concerned me somewhat. Upon further investigation I then discovered that the rear near side tyre and the rear offside tyre had the same issue (all Continental!). The front offside tyre has already been changed for a Pirelli Scorpion and unsurprisingly had no bubble. All three Continental tyres have about 5mm + of tread so there is clearly a major problem with this particular tyre. The Volvo main dealer, (Dinnages, Brighton) have been contacted and as you might expect merely tried to suggest that the issue has come about as a result of hitting potholes, (this has NOT happened) and then fobbed us off with suggesting we contact Continental UK to discuss our concerns.

Continental UK have been contacted and 'amazingly' were able to diagnose over the phone, (pictures were emailed) that there is no problem and that this is 'normal' with supposed Premium brands as the high quality materials used in their manufacture means that the tyre wall is thinner than budget brands for reasons of fuel efficiency and sometimes results in this visible bulge! I am not a tyre 'expert' but I am a seasoned police officer with considerable experience in checking vehicles for defects. I also have something called 'common sense' and know that this is utter rubbish. I therefore, strongly advise against buying these tyres unless of course you have some sort of death wish.

Upon investigation, I discovered that these tires have only a SINGLE-PLY sidewall!! In going online, I have discovered that there are numerous other similar experiences and a whole host of bubbled sidewalls that have blown out.

I can only imagine what would happen to a single-ply sidewall if it were to hit an object while traveling at 70 MPH. The Mercedes dealer was totally unaware of the sidewall construction and upon surveying their inventory, it was discovered that only two cars that have been on the lot for a while had the single-ply tires; all of the newer inventory now comes equipped with two-ply sidewalls. I have since done an unofficial survey of numerous new car tires and have yet to find another single-ply tire on any price range of car. Well, I guess I'm joining this party late after reading many pages of posts about cars tire blowouts. But I'll add my tale of woes. At first, I thought the tire blowouts were just on Mercedes Benz, but now see it is happening with many other car makes with the common denominator being the tire manufacturer, Continental. I previously owned a 2010 MB E550 and leased another new one in 2013. On the 2010 MB, I had less than 20,000 miles on it when I turned it in and never had a tire blowout. I don't know if it had Continental tires on it. On the 2013, I've had 3 OEM Continental tire blowouts on 2 separate occasions on my 2013 E550 Benz. The first time both tires on the left (driver's side) blew out after hitting a pothole. Only had about 5,000 miles on the car. The second time the right front tire blew out after hitting a pothole. Only had about 12,000 miles on it.

On both occasions my speed was less than 30 mph when I hit the pothole and the tire pressure went to 0 in less than a minute. Fortunately, I did not ruin the rims but I think only because I was able to pull over quickly. In over 45 years of driving experience with many different cars, I have never had not even one tire blow out. I, too, believe there is something definitely wrong and/or defective with the Continental tires. There are way too many people experiencing tire blowouts and/or bubbles in their tires for this to be a coincidence. I have filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Please advise me as to any class action lawsuit you may be aware of against MB and/or the tire manufacturer as I certainly want to join in. Needless to say, I'm very disgusted and disappointed with MB and Continental on this issue and their lack of response and concern for their customers. I think everyone should file a complaint with the NHTSA for them to investigate this. I wonder how many injuries and/or deaths are attributable to these dangerous tires. I also wonder why so many car manufacturers continue to put these tires on their cars.

Three weeks ago I purchased a new 2015 F450 with Continental 19.5" tires. Here we are with only 2500 miles on the truck and it shakes so violently you can steer or stop it. I take it to a local tire dealer that I have known for 19 years and they immediately find two massively unbalanced front tires. Then the right rear dual is not even properly beaded on the rear causing the tire to wobble. If that was enough the two left side duals are chunking. Meaning chunks of rubber or coming off. Everybody is pointing a finger and I am stuck having to pay for new tires. I am NEVER buying another FORD and there will NEVER be Continental Tires on anything I ever drive again. Total cost to replace with Michelin's $3050. After 2500 miles! As usual the customer takes in the ass.

After 2k miles on a brand new Audi, my front driver side tire formed a bubble on the sidewall. Dealership said this was something not covered by Audi and Audi customer service said the same. I never had a problem with a tire before and to have a bubble form in 2k miles with no responsibility taken from the dealership or manufacturer is unacceptable. I will never pay for a car that comes with Continental Tires again.

Paid for brand new tires from Continental and today they are worn and this is unacceptable. I haven't even driven 40k miles to come close to the actual tire time frame stated for these tires. I only came to 25K miles and these tires are no good. I'm angry!!!

On November 28, 2014 I purchased and had installed 4 new ContiProContact tires. Today, while adding air to my tires, I noticed a bulge on the sidewall of the right front one. The new tires have a total of 8277 miles on them. I contacted Flagship Motorcars in Lynnfield, MA and was told that they would honor the 1 year tire hazard policy and replace the tire with a new one. However, I have to pay for the mounting and alignment. Cost to me will be about $45 plus taking up half a day getting the work done. The next time I get tires they will not be Continental.

Continental ContiProContact - These tires came on my new car purchased in July 2011. I only have 23,000 miles on the car and was informed by Honda that all four tires need replacing! The worst tire (3/32), two are 4/32, one is 5/32. I got a second opinion, and he agreed with Honda. All four are going bad. I do have a warranty for 70 months but not sure how it works. Will have to find out. I'm very dissatisfied with the life received out of these tires. This is my sixth vehicle (driver since 1974), and I have never had tires wear this quickly. Honda is recommending another set of Continentals... I don't think so!

I recently purchased 4 Continental tires from Pep Boys. Since, three tires have had to be replaced due to sidewall problems. I currently have a bubble rising on one of these. Heaven knows what's going on with the inside sides where I can't see. Reading the experiences of many hundreds of other who have complained to your site, it seems clear there is a sidewall defect problem and these tires should be recalled before people start dying from blow-outs, etc. Of course we all get the same song and dance from the dealer about road hazard damage.

22,000 miles on my VW Cc. Just found out that my Continental tires are cupping and causing horrible noise and shuddering sensations while driving. The tires have been rotated twice by the dealer. I believe that this problem is a manufacturer's defect and the tires should be replaced by Continental. I am just beginning the complaint process.
