EnergySage services and features

EnergySage offers both home and community solar services that are designed to help you compare and save on renewable energy. The company has a network of pre-screened, local installers to compare and choose from.

Home solar

Residential customers can receive and compare quotes from multiple rooftop solar panel installers in their local area. EnergySage also offers advisors who can help you make the right decision based on your needs.

The company also offers a solar calculator that helps customers estimate upfront costs, savings and financing options for a solar energy system. These experts can help customers determine the best financing options, including taking advantage of any applicable solar tax credits and rebates.

Community solar

EnergySage can also help customers who don’t want to purchase or lease solar panels for their home but still want to benefit from renewable energy.

Through community solar, you can subscribe to a shared solar farm in your area that sends clean energy to the grid. Its community solar is available in 12 states plus Washington, D.C.

After subscribing, you receive utility credits for your purchased share of energy generated by the farm. These credits will be reflected on your utility bill as energy savings and vary based on your zip code. According to EnergySage, you can save 5% to 15% on your utility bill each year by choosing community solar.

I DON'T recommend Energy Sage. They connected me with a solar company (Demand Construction Inc based in San Fernando, CA) that after 18 months and over $40K in fees has not installed a single panel and ghosted all communication attempts this year. Don't trust their "service" - it's designed to put your money in their business partners' pockets. Beware, you could get a recommendation and quote even today from the same "trusted" partner.

This company pretends to be for the consumer but they are just as much about making money as everyone else. They steered me to a company that took my money, then told me I 'couldn't get solar' then would not give the money back. I found another company that solved the problem, but by then, it was too late to get the rebates. I'm going to get solar anyway but it will cost me a lot more. I blame EnergySage entirely. Don't make the same mistake I did. Do your own research! You will be glad you did.

EnergySage is garbage with zero accountability. Signed a solar installer via their platform who lied about even filing the permit. Installer promised refund of my deposit, never did. I involved EnergySage who promised they were working with THEIR installer to refund, still nothing. Now EnergySage won't refund me themselves. No accountability for not doing their only job. EnergySage is useless.

We understand your frustration and empathize with your experience with Demand Construction. EnergySage operates as a marketplace and does not enter into contracts, collect deposits, or process payments between consumers and independent installers. The $1,000 deposit was paid directly to Demand Construction, and any refund obligation lies with that company. When issues became known, we removed the installer from our platform and documented your complaint.

Hi Cameron, we understand your concern. The review you previously left of Sunergy Solar was hidden because it listed the full names of individual employees who work for the company, which is a risk to individual privacy and therefore violates our review policy. EnergySage offers a great variety of solar companies to compare, making it easier for customers to navigate their solar options. The platform excels in providing transparent pricing and detailed comparisons, which helped me confidently choose a solar provider. However, my experience took a downturn after selecting a company through them.

When I encountered issues with the solar provider, I reached out to EnergySage for support, hoping they would help resolve my concerns. Unfortunately, despite multiple calls and promises that they would get back to me, I never heard from them again. This lack of follow-through left me feeling abandoned during a critical stage of my solar project. While EnergySage offers an excellent comparison service, their customer support after a company is chosen needs serious improvement. Customers should be aware that once a company is selected, EnergySage may not provide the assistance they might expect if issues arise.

EnergySage reviews and prequalifies solar companies, then provides a dashboard for monitoring requests for proposals and ultimately the bids themselves. When I began to explore solar panels it quickly became challenging as there are many companies and it was difficult to track and compare apples to apples. EnergySage dashboard does just that. When I asked if they are commission based, and thus potentially biased, I learned that they receive their revenue from all contractors who choose to bid, so there is no bias. Throughout the process, which is now complete and producing power, I had easy access to a staff person at ES to help interpret information and provide guidance on next steps.

In 2023 I made the decision to add AC to our home built in 1880. My primary concerns were cost and environmental impact so I started to research and ultimately I landed on EnergySage's website. I fell down a rabbit hole reading all their articles on renewable energy to get a better understand of how to electrify my house and save money, while becoming more eco-friendly in the process. After my research, I decided to go with a ductless mini-split system that supported heating and cooling.

I signed up with EnergySage because I was able to get multiple quotes and I trusted their business because the articles I read were unbiased and simplified a rather complex purchase. Over the span of about two to three months, I had three installers come out to my property, perform an assessment, and provide a quote for five heads and two condensers. I decided to move forward with an installer that I trusted the most and felt most comfortable with throughout the entire process.

The installation process was incredibly easy and efficient. The installer had the entire job done in one week and I have been happy ever since. The biggest challenge with the new mini-splits has been learning the remote controls and making sure it is set correctly. This was truly user error and our installer was helpful in teaching me how to best use my new system.

Overall, without EnergySage I would have been lost trying to learn about renewable energy and home electrication. EnergySage saved me significant amounts of money by sourcing several quotes from qualified installers in their network and their writers were instrumental in my education of clean energy. I will definitely be using EnergySage again in the future when I go solar!

I discovered EnergySage during my web search for Solar Panel installation companies for my home. It was a fortuitous find. EnergySage greatly simplified the process by providing a complete resource for solar power information and creating a firewall for soliciting, receiving and reviewing proposals for installing solar panels on my home. The process for receiving proposals from solar panel installers was straightforward. I simply provided a one year history of energy use (easily obtained from my monthly electricity bill) and EnergySage did the rest. Within four days I had received over 6 proposals from reputable installers all vetted by EnergySage.

All contact with the installers was through the EnergySage website hence preventing cold calls and emails from installers. EnergySage also assigned an advisor for my project for consultation and unbiased discussion on the proposals (if desired or needed). Incredibly, these services were provided at no cost to me. The process from beginning (initiating the search) to end (choosing a solar panel design and installer) was seamless and smooth. I have since recommended their services to friends and neighbors. If you are considering installing solar panels on your home, I highly recommend that you contact EnergySage.

We wanted to have a bit of knowledge prior to making our solar purchase and were referred to the EnergySage site. I went back to the site multiple times researching specs, quality and general terms before submitting our request for quote. Pretty instantly we received back 4 quotes. Going through their marketplace, none of the contractors will contract you directly unless you provide your information to them. You are not inundated by companies pushing their products (they are in business to do this after all), which I found to be helpful while doing more research on the different types of solar options.

We also spoke with an EnergySage advisor who provided more insights on some of the equipment and terms which helped us make our decision. I feel we made a well informed decision as a result of the time spent reviewing the information provided by EnergySage. We found their site to have in depth, detailed and recent updates on solar products and installation.

EnergySage appears to be a lead generator that requires installers to pay them for promotion and access to solar customers. My experience was that only one out of six companies responding to my quote request engaged with me at all...The rest just spammed me with automated texts and emails, and did not answer any of my questions. Some of the quotes I received were also just unprofessional or illogical -- placing panels on the north side of our roof or on a flat roof over our sun room. And the one installer who actually called me attempted high-pressure sales tactics, insisting I sign a contract the same day. Prices (per watt) were just average...Nothing special. In addition, the EnergySage "rep" Maria did not respond to repeated contact attempts when I asked her to help me navigate the quotes I received. So I would recommend just searching for solar installers in your area and calling them for a quote instead.

I requested solar quotes in the Phoenix Arizona area for 8.8 Kw of panels. I supplied my address and selected my rooftop from a satellite image. The various companies could determine if there were roof or sun obstructions and confirm there was an adequate amount of space and the approximate azimuth to determine the solar exposure. Using my current electric bill, my energy usage could be calculated. Energy Sage provides the option to prevent the bidding companies from contacting me directly while I waited for 4 bids to come in ranging from $2.20 to $2.25 per watt, about what I expected. I studied the offered equipment and company feedback and selected the best company. I contacted the company and signed an installation contract. I am very pleased with the process. I thought the idea of this service was good until I found out they are essentially lying to all of their customers by intentionally withholding the actual cost of a solar installation. Their system is designed to present hypothetical "savings" and "tax credit" costs for each proposal, but when you dig into the proposal, you'll find the cost is insanely excessive (and IMO absurd). As such, they force their customers to waste hours communicating with numerous companies that obfuscate the actual cost until you finally crawl through all of the "savings" and "tax credit" garbage only to find a basic system costs around $40,000 out of pocket (when it's presented in a misleading fashion to think it's only $22,000). They intentionally do this because the cost of Solar is "insane" for what you get unless you are projecting use of more than 20 years. Regardless of anyone's opinion on the validity of solar, the fact they hide the actual cost is a red flag in and of itself.
