So my fiance and I own L&L Tech Solutions. It is an electronic store and we focus primarily on e-commerce however we do have a few retail locations. We wanted our banking and merchant processing to be the same and we were processing our payments before with Amazon payments and the fees were pretty high. So our banker Eric ** at Huntington North Canton Ohio advised my fiance and I that setting up an account with them we would have a merchant account and be able to process payments with them. Before we switch to everything over we made Eric reassure us that we would not have any problems as PayPal had held $40,000 on our store as PayPal is typical of doing this. Branch manager advises that this would not happen and we were good to go!

We started to promote/advertise heavily around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We did roughly $80,000 in sales in that time period. First Data withheld all of the money from all of our transactions. We sold around 100 laptops for $8,000 and since this was not the average ticket that we signed up for it caused a concern/red flag on the account. a security department reached out to us advising us that we needed the submit tracking details and other information about the customer and our products, etc. Typical security review.

So we submitted all the documents and we waited a few days. Still nothing heard back. But this time Thanksgiving has came and gone. The security review department was out for the entire week. December 1st we finally get contacted back telling us that we need to submit more information and that they would not be releasing our funds. We submitted more documentation showing shipments, tracking information, supplier receipts, invoices, etc. The money still has yet to be released. By this point all of the customers are starting to leave negative reviews and be very upset as they have not received any information about the product. Over 300 customers now mad and calling us asking where the product is. We had no answer for them only what First Data told us and this was that way for that three or four weeks.

This Monday I finally gave up. I'm canceling all the orders refunding them and hoping the customers repurchase with us under Amazon payments. Over $50,000 gone!! Run run run far away from First Data and anything to do with it! If you're processing payments right now with them or another credit card processor switch over to Square Stripe or another online processor. How can a company legally take $50,000 and not give it to who it's owed to?

First Data is a nightmare. I signed up with them and was told I would be charged $0.29 per debit card transaction. When I started getting hit with ridiculous fees debited directly from my bank account and started wondering what was going on I called and was told about interchange fees. No one ever gave me the rundown on interchange fees!!! I've been trying to cancel and the customer service is terrible!!! Every time I would call this joke of a company would tell me they have a transfer me to the person that signed me up. When I finally did get a hold of the leasing department I was told I would get a shipping label in the mail to return my equipment. I never did get it. Now these thieves are debiting money from my account every month and on top of that are charging me for having 2 apps installed on the device I leased.

First Data is horrendous not to mention they take 2 days to deposit your money!!! Lesson well learned. If you are considering first data run away. These are thieves and liars with probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced! If you're looking for a good payment processor go with a company that's made a name for themselves in good customer service where you can actually talk to Americans like authorize.net!

Incredibly difficult to get a competent and helpful representative. Countless calls and long waits over months trying to get closure on a lease buyback. It was a complete nightmare with FDGL and the independent sales organization (ISO) who sold me on an incompatible solution.

Do not get involved with this company. The sales pitch is a lie. They tell you one thing and deliver another. Very dishonest. Would never do business with them again. I Was told my processing fees would not be any more than $250.00 a month after the card discounts and that there would be no equipment fee. WRONG. I allowed myself to get roped somehow into a lease that has me paying $15000.00 for equipment that I DID NOT NEED. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. VERY UNETHICAL SELLING PRACTICES.

So very bad at customer service, they revised my contract and entitled themselves for extracting money from my account for 48 months with no cancelation rights. Been at the phone with them. All nonsense responses. They pass you to different department and when you ask for a supervisor you will be transfer to a line that nobody pick it up. Employees are so unprofessional and majority of them with a very heavy accent that you barely understand them. They're doing a very nasty business. I wish I never done that deal with them.

My business is forced closed by covid 19 since March but no support from First Data Clover... We may never open again but I'm being harassed to pay for services I'm now not able to use. Requested account on hold due to not able to even go in building by fire marshal, they refuse to help as we have already lost so much due to damage. They demand to keep paying on lease even with no money as we are out of business not by our doing. We want account on hold and demand State of Connecticut to get involved. Car slammed into building Oct 4 and building caught on fire.

We started using Clover as a means to accept credit cards for our business. Nothing was explained to us about First Data Global Leasing. Nothing was said to us about leasing for 3 years! Their customer service is non-existent. Nobody to speak to that doesn't have a heavy accent and can't understand what they are saying. It seems to be a poor way to run a business if you have a problem, no one is there to help! Wish I had read the reviews before doing business with Clover or First Data! If you're even considering them, don't!

I don't know how I missed these reviews before I signed this 3 year contract that's apparently not for 3 years, they just put that there and I can cancel anytime. I now see it's not true. So many lies. I was told no matter what my deposits are made the very next day. Lies! I was supposed to get two months free due to shipping issues, I don't see it. I asked for the most recent system I received 2018 system and was told it's the latest, online I see the updated one. Too many lies to dissect. Now I'm locked in for 35 more months! Hopefully there will be a class action lawsuit filed and I can break free.

First Data Global Leasing response

Dear latavia

I reached out to the owner of your account. To reiterate, the equipment we provided was the most up to date equipment we have. The sales representative had set the equipment to batch close to midnight however it can be updated to 9pm in order to allow the deposits. we offer 60 days service promise and can close the account if you contact the sales agent or CFI's support team at 1-877-995-9198. We can issue return slips to return the equipment and close at no cost. Thank you, Fiserv

In my 8 years in the digital marketing space I've never experienced a lack of quality in service that even slightly compares to that of what FirstData delivers. I received a hold about 4 months ago now that has completely ruined my business. The hold was originally set because of "increase sales volume" - which is understandable. I spoke on the phone with a representative who was supposed to help me get this cleared but instead of this, the hold continued for weeks and turned into the money being held for a completely different reason which was "increased chargebacks"

How can you hold the money for longer due to increased chargebacks when the hold you originally placed was what started to cause the rise in chargebacks? We're e-commerce based, and since COVID, our products have been taking a lot longer to ship, or just not showing up at all. So with that, when an order is lost, I either need to refund that customer or resend the product - in most cases the customer just wants their product - but I can't do this because FirstData has locked up all of the cash that I needed to maintain positive cash flow and now the business is going in debt as a result of their lack of competence and empathy for a small business owner.

It's been 4 months of me just trying to get someone on the phone and I can't even get a call or email back. The only emails they send me are the equivalent of an automated bot response saying "The hold has to continue because of increased chargebacks" - I can't resolve the chargebacks without the hold being released!!

I know holds are natural with merchant processors, but I've never had a merchant processor hold my money and then completely ghost me - and in most cases other companies will listen to your side of the story and release the money. First Data treats you like a robot, just another one of their statistics and doesn't care about anything but lining their own pockets and taking your money, only to go and inflate their worthless stock's price as they hold your money.

I've had enough of their nonsense. I'm not a celebrity, but I do have a 500,000 following of entrepreneurs amongst my social media profiles. I'll be sure to spread the word of how awful my experience has been with FirstData and make sure that no one who's in contact with me ever signs up for their merchant processing services. What's funny is that I don't even have to exaggerate, I think anyone with a brain will hear this story and conclude that this is a company you do not want to work with. Avoid FirstData and its partners at all costs. This company is careless, unprofessional, and borderline scammers.

I have actively been trying to resolve a fraud issue which in turn has frozen my transactions with my small business processing g. I have made 125 phone calls in 14 days & I still have not received a phone call back. At this point my business is falling apart because of the incompetence and lack of follow through with First Data. Because my client's $36,000 is being held in the universe with no resolution of it being released. The contractors he pre-paid me for are about to walk from the job and I will have to refund my client his money and reverse the transaction which in turn will put my small business in a state of having to file and shut down from Lack of funds.

First Data has been a nightmare to deal with from the time I signed the contract.

- Their invoices are very difficult to read (my CPA struggled with them and couldn't make sense of how they were charging me).
- They sent me a credit card transaction dispute after the deadline on the notice had expired leaving me to have to try and get the money through a small claims action.
- They can't seem to keep track of information including where the returned equipment went.
- Their salesman Ari Title lied about their services to get the contract and now isn't with the company anymore to follow up with.

Avoid doing business with 1st Data.

Please stay away from this company. This company is fraud, customer support has been absolutely horrible. During the lockdown closed the business for couple of weeks. They start taking money from my account, it was huge amount around $1500 dollars, I was shocked. When I called them find out it was chargeback. Their answer was, "Sorry we can't do anything." Even we called them couple of time to provide better machine, we were told we had to pay extra on top of the monthly fee of what we were already paying. If something wrong with debit machine their estimate of 3-4 days before someone would be able to come in and take a look. Which is too long for any business to be without a working payment terminal. They told me to pay more than $2000 if I cancel my service with them. STAY AWAY, IT'S A SCAM.

Do not fall for false promises. Extremely high processing fees and Clover station lease. Nowhere near the "savings" promised by their rep. Transferred to a "Cash Discount" process where the fees are supposedly absorbed by "Credit Card" transactions yet they are charging the customers the additional fee and charging our business the same. Double dipping you might say. Overall fees are at 4.3 percent and due to increase according to their last statement alert. Do NOT use 1st Data. Customer service is a joke and when questioning their fee structure I was told to change merchants!! THEY DON'T CARE!! Seeking to invoke a class action suit. If you have had the same issue contact me at **.

BUYERS BE AWARE, you are going to pay thousands of dollars just to cancel with them!!! Before signing the contract with this company be very careful what you signing into, first of all it is impossible to cancel the contract with them. The sales rep told us you can cancel anytime but guess what - since we are closing the business due to COVID19 we spent hours on the phone trying to close the account and we end up in transfer from one person to another for 2 hours until you give up and hang up. This is for days. The other option is to pay 3000 USD!!

The only other option is a payment of 70$ for four years for a piece of machine that you could buy for less than 200$ and you cannot return it if you return it they will charge you a couple of hundreds more for "improper return of equipment" and a few hundreds fees and you still stuck with 4 years contract, they promise you that you will save on the transaction fess but you end paying thousands every year for all the hidden fees inside the contract from monthly fees to annually fees.

The third thing the contract require that you become a personal guarantor and even if you want to transfer the machine to a new business you become the personal guarantor and the new owner as well. It is so shady business, do your research and never trust the salesperson which is now in a meeting every time we call her the scam artist. PLEASE STAY AWAY AND LOOK ELSEWHERE.

This is an e-Commerce horror story, I feel obligated to post our experience with First Data Merchant Service as a stern warning to all you small merchants out there who are working hard building your business and trying to do the right thing. We first processed with First Data 8 years ago, multiple websites selling legit health supplements, about 100k/mo, no problem. We then moved to another processor a year later for a cheaper rate.

This year, March 2020, we went back to First Data, again multiple websites selling legit health supplements, about 100k/mo, one month passed, no issues. Suddenly, on April 21st, we got a voice mail from someone in their risk department by the name Chris saying our account is terminated immediately for security reason. We tried to call back, but their risk department only has vm, no one picks up the phone. We are like, ok, fine we will just switch to another processor. We sent out our application to 3 other processors, all got approved, ready to board, then one by one called back and said this to us “Sorry, we have to rescind our approval because you are on the MATCH list.”

We scrambled to find out what is MATCH list first. For those of you don’t know what a MATCH list is, google it. It’s a Master Card/Visa blacklist for merchants and once you are on the list, no processors will approve you again. By this time, we are losing thousands of dollars a day not being able to process. Logically, we tried to call First Data risk dept to find out why they placed us on the MATCH list. It took them 2 weeks and 10+ voicemails to call us back and told us that they placed us on the MATCH list because we were processing another health supplement site (albeit it’s a legit website that First Data's processed for us 8 years ago) that was not on our application. When we filled out our application, we only put the primary site on there.

We tried to explain to them that this is not intentional, the secondary site has 10% of the traffic, it simply didn’t cross our mind that we are doing anything wrong that’s worthy to be terminated let alone put on MATCH list. The MATCH list is reserved for high risk merchants who pose risk of material damage to the processor, such as deceptive merchants trying to process a illegitimate/illegal third party site behind their own mid. We are nothing like that! But FirstData won’t remove our name from the MATCH list, completely disregarding our explanation and circumstantial evidences which backs up our explanation, their official line is “you've violated our terms of service.”

Now, we have been selling online for 10+ years, we have encountered this scenario a few other times, sometimes, the processor only require you to list your primary site on the application due to limited space. Sometimes, the processor will remind us to give them our full list of of domains to get approved while processing (that’s why it never even cross our mind that not listing all your domains on application could even be an issue).

Most experienced risk department analysts can tell when a merchant is making an innocent mistake vs. when a merchant has malicious intent to deceive. First Data risk analyst makes no such distinction, they simply don’t care about you or your business. They don’t care that you are struggling to feed your employees in midst of Covid-19 pandemic, they put you on the MATCH list with a simple click, destroying you and family’s and your employees' livelihood. Later I found out that in this industry, FirstData is known to approve applications quickly and terminate quickly with zero communication — THEY JUST DON’T CARE about their merchants, it’s just a numbers game for them!

We later have spoken to a few other merchant service providers, and they all said frankly that if it was Walmart or Bestbuy who made the same mistake (one of their employees processed a different domain under the same mid because they didn’t know better to check first), they will not get terminated. They would get a call from the processor to correct the mistake instead. When you are a small business, no one cares, especially FirstData. So choose who you process with carefully!

Never deal with this company. To be careful, they signed the leasing agreements as trap even though you switch to a new brand like Nuvei, the same company with different brand. They never removed your old leasing even though you sign a new one with them. Scrutinize to charge for two leasing contracts.

As the Executive order is in place for all non-essential businesses in the state of Michigan, utility companies and cable companies etc. have put in place reduced fees and even free services. NOT FirsData Global Leasing. They only offer a soft-cancel which makes your credit card machine inactive. It's a joke. They will not work with you at all and their cancellation fee is $450. They are a total scam as I have seen an increase monthly to my credit card merchant services compared to Paymentech. "STAY AWAY." They price gouge you. They simply are not an honest company, and that will charge whatever they want.

I fell for the sales rep pitch on leasing Clover equipment. I recently sold my business and have not received any satisfaction from the company in terms of returning the equipment OR providing details on the payoff. After 6 attempts over the past 2 weeks with a computer voice to have docs mailed or emailed. DO NOT use these folks whatever you do. I promise you'll be sorry.

This company is lazy, and have the rudest staff. They are disrespectful and do not understand who pays them. As a merchant, I have lost numerous chargebacks worth thousands of dollars over the most ridiculous reasons stated by First Data. They do not defend their merchants, the way the banks defend theirs. This property is a hotel, and we receive numerous credit cards on a daily basis. We get people disputing charges, and always lose them in every case over very ridiculous reasons. When I call to find out they give attitude and do not answer questions appropriately. I called recently about a chargeback where I had provided them with ALL documentation including a credit card authorization form from a card holder, with the card holders IDENTIFICATION and all information signed.. Still lost over $1000.00 because the transaction wasn't face to face... Ridiculous... Absolutely ridiculous..

They ASK for a credit card authorization form and then say it doesn't matter and holds no value..yet it's a document they ask you to provide... What's the point then? ...Absolutely horrible business..these guys should have some accountability. Lose another chargeback because the picture I uploaded was a bit "blurry"..lost 500$ because of that... This company is horrible!!! stay away at all costs... They will drive you crazy.

First Data also name is FDGL (First Data Global Leasing) work with Red payments and Clover together as team scammers totally illegal company. They always send their stuff to retail store to trick small business owner said only $65/m for all kinds credit card or debit card processing fees no other hidden fees and includes free Clover equipment and make us sign a 5 years contract. When We start to use their Clover machine then FDGL start charge us for $70/M until the leasing ending plus all kinds hidden fees and still charged every credit card and debit card processing.

We been told we can’t return the Clover mini until we paid off $4200. If We stopped use their service and Red payments start withdraw $495 from our bank acount and FDGL continue to charge us for $70/m for leasing fee. FDGL said we have to pay off the 5 years leasing fees before return the Clover. The Clover min only worth $200-$285 base on Amazon. But we have to pay $4200 for the same machine. I already reported them to government as scammers and they said will going to investigate both of them and I hope government really can shut down their business so they won't hurting any more business.

The issue has been resolved to my satisfaction. Dispute was resolved faster than my expectation. The company may need to monitor its sales process and the security screening process.

Auto Phone system asked me some security questions and the staff asked me the same security questions. Wasted my time. Difficult to reach to a real human customer rep. I am being charged two fees but never received new machine. And the investigation is a lengthy process. Recorded wrong postal code. Their company is in USA. Overall, not recommended. Quite negative experience.
