I have two 3-month old kittens (brother and sister). On April 3rd a friend gave us a bag of "Whiskas Temptations - Salmon Flavor" cat treats. They each ate a few treats (maybe 3-7) between April 3rd and April 7th. On April 7th, the female kitten began throwing up. On April 8th she was throwing up bile every hour and couldn't keep food or water down. We had to take her to the emergency vet 3 times, and eventually hospitalized her overnight with an IV and medication. She is finally recovering. Stomach exams, blood work, an x-ray, and an ultrasound all came back normal and the vet couldn't figure out what had caused the reaction. On April 10th, the male kitten began showing similar signs. He stopped eating and drinking, has vomited continuously, and also has diarrhea. He is currently being seen by the emergency vet as well. We are hoping that he will pull through on his own, but may have to hospitalize him as well.

After the kittens got sick I checked online for any recalls on their food/treats. There are no recalls out on anything they eat, however, I found a number of people asking via online blogs (and this site) whether there was a recall out for Whiskas Temptations. Many people are reporting very similar cases (non-stop vomiting after eating the treats, some even reporting that their cats have died). Both kittens were seen by their primary care vet prior to eating the treats and were in great health. The Whiskas Treats were the only change in the diet of both kittens, and their reaction started in close proximity to the treats.

It has been horrible to see such small kittens so sick and in pain. I hope no other pet owners have to go through this, and I am so sorry for those who have lost their pets. I have already submitted this information to the FDA, Whiskas, and Mars Company so that they can investigate these treats for recall. If you have a similar case, please consider submitting a report via the FDA Safety Reporting Portal - the more people that report cases the more likely these treats can be investigated and recalled!

Like everyone else, my cat is addicted to the Temptations Whiskas treats (any flavor and luckily I haven't fed her any of the other types of food made by this company). I noticed the addiction issues since I started feeding her the treats and I feel guilty that I'm just now thinking there is a real issue here. She hasn't got sick like others have written about (once in a blue moon she will throw up or have some clear spittle run from her mouth, but that has happened 2-3x in the past year so not sure if it’s related). I do know that there is something wrong here and it is now hard to feed her anything else. I stopped with the treats and she is licking a bowl that has been completely bare for 2 days now.

Is there anything I should be doing now meaning: Should I slowly get her off the product or cold turkey it? She hasn't gotten sick since it stopped and she is pretty regular as far as I can tell, but I don’t want her to have issues in a few days or down the road. Is there anything I should do long-term besides avoid it? Or do I need to avoid it? I obviously like making my cat happy and there is no doubt she loves this stuff more than anything else in her life (sad, but feels very true). I don't want to deny her pleasures, so is it ok occasionally now that I am going to stop feeding her some every day?

I know all of these things are being asked by everyone here, but I haven't read any clear advice on how to proceed. I also haven't seen anything on how the company is taking this information. I don't understand why this is not an issue with whoever supervises pet food.

We have a cat 14 years old, healthy for her age, eats prescription cat food, and is a happy cat for her age. On Easter we took her in to the emergency vet center for eating two Whiskas salmon treats. She was vomiting and uncontrollable bowel movements. The vet kept her two days and just sent her home yesterday for us to get her to drink water. She has completely stopped eating and drinking water. Our next step is what we can do to help her. Help!

I have a 5 yr. old healthy cat. In the past few months, I started giving her Temptations Treats. At first she loved them...and still does - except within 15 minutes of eating them, she is vomiting repeatedly and up come the Temptations, undigested. At first it was the Creamy Dairy Flavor (purple bag) and she had previously eaten the Tasty Chicken Flavor (yellow bag) with no issues. So I just bought a big yellow bag of the Chicken treats - and last night she vomited them up as well. She can eat the Friskies Party Mix treats with no problems - but not the Temptations. I just spoke to a representative at Mars, using the 800 # on the bag, and he apologized, asked for the UPC Code, and "Use By Date" and manufacturing code from both flavors, and is issuing a full refund for the purchase. I just hope I don't end up with a huge Vet bill on top of everything else. Wish I had read the reviews first!

After purchasing a bag of Temptation Cat treats I fed my cat a few at a time like stated on bag. After two days in a row of treating my cat became lethargic, slept for 4 hours and not up to his usual antics. I became a tad concern when I saw that he was not up and about around dinner time and did not consume as much dry food as he usual did per day. That is when I went over to his litter box and saw he had vomited the treats and some food back up (somehow he always pukes in the litter box). I IMMEDIATELY threw the treats away. When I cleaned the box out he got up off the couch and mewed intentionally, then got some water. Now he is back doing the things he likes, just a little worse for wear today.

My 2 cats love Temptation Cat Treats, however they both have been very sick in the last 2 days. They eat so many I buy the big 16 oz tubs, and just as they finished the chicken flavor in the yellow tub, I opened the the Seafood Medley flavor in the green tub. As soon as they both ate some, they both started vomiting more than usual. I thought it could be just a coincidence, so yesterday when they were begging for treats, I again gave them some and again both got very sick. I'm wondering if there is a recall I'm not aware of?

We have two cats. A couple weeks ago, we bought them a bag of temptations seafood flavor cat treats. They loved it. They finished the bag. Now one of them is slowly dying. She is barely drinking water, will not attempt to eat, very lethargic, drooling, and has been this way for a couple of days. She is showing the same symptoms as most of the others I have read about. This happened one time before when we gave her a couple of Greenies treats. It was no where near this severe and she pulled out of it. Her kidneys are shutting down and she will more than likely not make it another day or two. The other cat is fine.

This is very traumatic for my 3-yr old daughter. I wish there were be more warnings on the package. My mom has given the same treats to her cats and they are fine. Maybe some cats are allergic to whatever the tartar control chemicals are in these treats. I'm seeing a pattern with any kind of dental treats and these symptoms including death.

My cat is crazy for Whiskas...the only food he eats is Whiskas. Cats know what they should and what they shouldn't eat. Whiskas have all vitamins your cat needs (just be sure to chose the right pack -- depends of the age of your cat -- Is it adult or not?). So, I'm not complaining on Whiskas. I am recommending it to all cat owners. I have never seen a cat that don't like Whiskas food. It smells good, it tastes good, and it have all vitamins and proteins your cat needs.

I have been giving my cat this food for a couple of years. One day I could not find it in any of my local stores. I was able to buy a huge bag online from Walmart and had it shipped so I was pretty happy. The trouble began when I opened the bag and started feeding my older male cat again Whiskas. He was throwing up every single day after eating this food. I also noticed a behavior change that was concerning. I was attributing this to him just getting older. He is about 13 years old. I decided to throw the Whiskas away realizing the cat food was making him sick and replaced it with another brand he likes.

Well now my wonderful cat has not puked at all and he is back to his old self. I think he must have been feeling pretty bad and who knows may of even become worse had I not stopped with the Whiskas dry food Meaty Selections. My cat may have gotten sick by puking before but I never realized it may have been from the food as it wasn't as consistent since my last purchase. I literally now made an absolute connection. My concern now is reading all the reviews of the Whiskas treats which my cat seems to be addicted to and it's beyond ridiculous. I honestly believe I should wean him off this stuff and find him something more natural. There may be a problem with these treats I have not discovered yet but I'm keeping close tabs on this now.

Do NOT give your cat those kitty treats called TEMPTATIONS by Whiskas... In fact do not feed them anything by Whiskas - it is owned by the Mars company (who poisons humans, too). I bought them recently and my cat Blue changed immediately (Temptations has something highly addictive in them. Blue begged, howled, nudged and did the tricks that would be rewarded by them). It has been described as crack cocaine or heroin for cats (and apparently will often kill the cat within as short a time as 3 months!!!).

Blue has been acting so weird I had to Google Temptations complaints and am glad I did! I stopped giving her the treats and I can only describe Blue's behavior as going through withdrawal. She's eating very little, is lethargic and sleeping longer than usual in her "comfort spots" (my bed, my couch, my lap). Not good. She did drink some water and she isn't throwing up, so I hope I stopped the Temptations in time.

I have 4 cats, all indoor dwellers, born in my home. Their health has been unremarkable except for just recently. Their ages all approximate from the oldest 10 to the youngest 6 years. I leave a full bowl of dry cat food out for them to pick at throughout the day and divide a can of wet food to share at dinner time. I went grocery shopping Saturday, February 14th, 2015... In recognition of Valentine's Day. The usual highly anticipated gifts, exchanged or given on this most celebrated day of love, romance, friendship, affection and obviously and acts of kindness to be shown to those we put before and above all others.

Well, I love all my kitties, and they too deserve something special (or at least that's what I thought I was buying) a small token of my appreciation, for their loyal devotion and ability to put a smile on my face most every day of the year. So the obvious chosen gift that would be appreciated by all good kitties (and they have been good kitties!) - extra gravy of course (Whiskas gravy lovers in the foil packets) (something I have never purchased before)!!! And big, big bag of cat treats (temptations). Valentine’s day has now come and gone and has left me and my small family with regrets, fear, and 4 animals that have been taking turns throwing up the past 24 to 48 hours.

This mysterious puzzle (all my cats sick at the same time) is being solved piece by piece, through common sense, extensive research, deductive reasoning, with just a wee bit of luck solved. I was unaware that Whiskas foil packets and the cat treats (temptations) I purchased on Valentine’s Day, have receive such scrutiny and allegations. Some cat owners have made accusations that one or both products have caused their felines to become sick and/or possibly ended in death. I can only hope these allegations are either rumors that have been started by some disgruntled, dissatisfied customers, hoping to receive some monetary gain, or compensation from a large corporation whose product had nothing to do with their animal(s) untimely death.

Approximately 48 hours ago the youngest of my cats vomited that I shrugged off as either a hairball/unchewed food/over eating or possibility of one to all three, which it hasn't been uncommon demonstration from time to time with all 4 of my cats, but never have I witnessed all 4 throwing up at the same time. I know the difference between expelling a simple hairball and out and out right vomiting right down to now dry heaves. The only thing I can contribute this vomiting to is the added Whiskas/and temptation cat treats to their diet. I have now removed both from their diet, will save the leftovers, and can only hope it’s not too late for them to make a full recovery!!!

I have semi-adopted my landlord's cat and he likes Whiskas Carne (dry food). The landlord just told me that various vets have told him Whiskas is criticized by vets as being very bad for cats. Maybe a Google search can verify this info. I will purchase a different brand the next time I buy food. If you have a male cat, my daughter was warned that many (most?) male cats do not drink enough water and can wind up with kidney problems. This is not necessarily a problem with a specific food except possibly too little moisture.

After being introduced to Whiskas Temptations, one of our cats has been behaving much like the cats of others. The cat has become a whiskas crack head. AND as mentioned, she rarely eats or wants anything else. Concerned about the reports of health problems when consuming too much of this temptation, we restrict her intake to three treats per day (not three servings but three of these little bits). BUT that's all she really wants. Mixing them with moist food only results in her sorting the whiskas out and leaving the soft food behind. If anyone has successfully helped her/his cat kick this habit, please let us know along with the specific strategy used. Thanks.

Whiskas Cat Food is a bit of a conundrum. Some formulas contain high levels of meat protein, while others contain cheap fillers and inferior protein sources. Based on this disparity, we give Whiskas Cat Food a middle of the road rating. The brand makes five different types of meals for cats. These are the Whiskas Trays, the Purrfectly Pouch, Whiskas Dry, Whiskas Pouch and Snacks. These all come in a wide variety of fish and meat flavors. All of the formulas except for the Whiskas Dry seem to have above average levels of protein from whole meat sources, and added vitamins and minerals. This bodes well for the health and vitality of cats.

However, the Whiskas Dry food contains corn and corn gluten as cheap meat substitutes, and the only form of protein is a meat by-product. In addition, wheat flour and brewer's yeast further muddle the mix, and contain no healthy nutrients for cats. We suggest steering clear of the dry mix, and going straight for the other formulas.

Both my cats have been eating temptations off and on. Mainly I used them to try to get them back into the house at night but once they were inside they would go mental over these treats. If you left the bag out on a counter top the bag would disappear. We'd have to put them in a bathroom and shut the door since the cats would just open a cabinet door. I never noticed my cats suffering from withdrawal from them once they ran out but they knew when they were in the house. My aunt's cat on the other hand was a full out addict. Recently died of diabetes. She was a daily temptations eater. I hope stores either pull these treats off the shelves or Whiskas stops making them.

But when I put the Whiskas down, there was an avoidance. They did eat some. But something inside was saying the food is bad. I did get scared for my cats. I took it back to Meijer's. But kept some. I ask the clerk what she thought about the smell, her reply was, "It's terrible!" I bought some Cat Chow. Opened it up at home, it was fine. Smelled good. My cat's didn't stop eating.....Something better be done about Whiskas bad food!! !And never second guess yourself. I am surprised by some of the reviews. I haven't had any problems with this cat food. Both of my cats like it. Occasionally, I will change the food, but they do prefer this. I give them the dry whiskas and I give them the treats very occasionally. The treats are like crack for them I do admit, lol. But I will give them maybe two or three each at a time, maybe once or twice a week. As for the regular food, I also give them a little bit of wet food, which is what they prefer. They don't seem to gorge on the dry food as though they are addicted, as others have said. They prefer waiting for their wet food dinner.

Once in a while, I will see that one of the cats has thrown up the food. But it is very rare, so it has not been a concern. I wonder how many people out there have good experiences but don't write reviews. For me, this food has been great for my cat. I know it's not the best, but they eat it and seem happy.

At that point we thought it was a blockage and performed exploratory surgery. The doctor found nothing. My 14-year-old male cat died a very painful death after consuming Temptations cat treats. I only wish I would have read these blogs sooner. They are sold at all pet stores, and big chain stores. My previously healthy male cat died 20 days after me introducing the treats to him. The symptoms started with goopy eyes, urination outside the litter box, then incontinence. Vomiting after he ate the treat in the morning, I took him to vet, as he has never had these problems before. Blood test said liver values are high. Started him on Obax and Methrondizol. I kept feeding him the temptations treats, 5-7 at a time thinking he's not feeling well and it would help with his appetite. At 10 days, he could barely walk, very lethargic, redid blood test; values were better, but still having trouble walking, still lethargic. Trying to keep his appetite up, I kept giving him treats. No one can figure out what is causing his illness.

At day 15, he has ultrasound on heart and abdominal. My cat has now refused to eat, period. No explanation, his blood work is good. He's always been healthy. At this point I start thinking about what new has come into his life. The only item is Temptations treats. I stop giving him the treats. He starts eating again. I think he is getting better.

At 17 days, I talk to the vet. She assures me it's not anything I'm doing or not doing. It's not his diet. We don't know what happened. So hearing that I start giving him treats again. Day 18, he throws up, refuses to eat. Day 19 refuses to eat. And now is having trouble breathing. He spends all day in oxygen tank with medicine. Slight improvement. Transferred him to 24-hour clinic where in the morning my guy was in excruciating distress and had to be put to sleep.

No animal should ever have to go through that. The 24-hour care facility that let him suffer all night is a different issue. I was only able to hold him for less than one minute, he was gasping for air, and needed to be put to rest. I can't prove it was the Temptations treats, but after reading similar stories and complaints, it's a strong possibility. Thank you for reading this, and hopefully this can help someone else before it's too late for their beloved pet.

In the past year, my little boy literally became addicted to the treats - not just rubbing against our ankles in the kitchen, but head-butting the cupboard door and caterwauling until we would give some to him. Molly would come into the kitchen and meow till she got treats too. My husband would laugh and say, "Oscar wants his fix!"

Suddenly, just this week, we realized this was a problem. The cats really are addicted. We're tossing the rest of the Whiskas treats and will do whatever it takes to get the cats back to normal. Wow! Who would think cats could be addicted to treats. They haven't vomited or shown any other weird behavior except "demanding" the treats morning, noon and night. What was cute is scary now and we hope they'll back off...

My vet said that she should weigh 11 pounds. She now weighs 20 pounds and is still growing. I just figured that it was because she is a rescue cat that was found on the streets until I got her at about 1 years old. She was CONSTANTLY begging for more food, and seemed to NEVER get full. Now, her health is in danger because she is SO overweight. I switched food hoping that I could find another kind that she wouldn't want to eat so much of. NOW, she WON'T EAT anything!!! Yes, she needs to lose weight, but not eating at all can be just as bad as eating non-stop. I'm very angry about this!!!

The vet said if he didn't eat for two days bring him back in and said try Whiskas wet food in the 3 oz foil packets. She didn't know why but it was her trick to get cats back to eating. He went crazy for it, and still is 6 months later. Never food-centric before, and getting top $ Canidae brand dry, he is now quite demanding and annoying unless pacified with Whiskas. I now mix the two and it seems to be fooling him but something is going on with Whiskas. It is bad cat food; 8% protein. Canidae is 32%. I don't know if it's the salt, MSG, or opium but I'm trying to wean him off the stuff.

OK, so I had one cat and she loved these treats! We would give them to her almost every day! When she turned 14, she started acting really weird. She would be skinny as ever, and meow at night like crazy! She was lying down not able to walk, having seizures. When she was about 15 she died. My current cat has been given these treats all through November 2014. I just saw this and I now know why she was acting weird, she was not eating that much, and started meows like crazy! Now she's not as my much of a people person as she used to be...

The whiskas dry formula is new and the cat treats were the actual food that was sold as dry cat food for several years. So what they have done is repackaged the dry food as snacks and came up with some lame formula that my cat hates. This has happened over the last year and I guess the takeover is complete. It's too bad for my kitty because he knows the treats are the food that I used to get in fifteen pound bags for my kitty's but I guess it's just another way of squeezing more profit from inferior product and more profit from the better ones. So this food advertised as treats was in fact the food our cats were eating and now the only way to buy it is in smaller more expensive packs.

I just ordered from Chewys a 15 pound bag of the dry meaty selections and he took two bites and spit out the second? It is sad but I am going to have to move him away from this company, no telling what kind of product they are selling? If they try and secretly change these products without anyone noticing, well they did it but at the cost of my business and my my kitty's business. Sorry Whiskas, I am not fooled and I will get this out into the public.

It didn't even take a year to kill them, only 5 month and 11 days, at a young age!! They stopped eating and started throwing up, coughing and the same common symptoms of everybody's pet in this thread, that lasted for almost 2 days before I took them to the vet, but only the female managed to live. So they told me it was only a fever and give me some pills, but I took her again to a different vet this morning since she's getting worse, but she was already dying and the fever wasn't the cause!!

It was so hard watching her enable to walk and only lying down. I was also forcing her to eat with a syringe, and she was barely letting a sound out for each time she felt pain or want to reach the litter so I had to help her, can you imagine the pain I felt taking care of my almost dead cat?! This Mars, Inc. should be sued for this junk products. Look how many complaints of such horrible results, and I can't believe it's still on sale!! This can't last.. She didn't know if she was coming or going therefore, she was urinating in the house which she has NEVER done before and pupils dilated. Took her in to the vet and did blood work. Blood work showed nothing. Cat was healthy up till the last 3 weeks. Now she's dead. The last 48 hours she went thru hell. We put her down. Also, be on the look out for respiratory problems (eyes gooping up when they didn't before)... This could be a telltale sign as well. I stopped feeding my other cat the Temptations Cat Treats. I came to this site after Googling Temptations. I've only been giving my healthy cat the treats for about a month. She started vomiting 3 days ago, small amounts, but what had me puzzled was the insane way she has been acting. I only gave her maybe 6-10 treats at a time after dinner in the evening and only upstairs in my bedroom. In the evening, she waits on the steps and meows and will attack me when we get upstairs. Immediately after the treats are given, she goes haywire running around like she's on some kind of drug. Jokingly, we have been calling her a crackhead and calling the treats crack. We thought it was funny. My curiosity led me to want to know what was in them. I have 3 different flavors and all the ingredients are not good, to say the least. But when I came here, I became horrified!

I'm going to Walmart and I'm going to complain very loudly. I'm not going to return the treats; I'm just going to go straight to the manager and complain like hell. Then I'm going to quietly slip away. I'm going to post a sign and go back to the treats and tape it up. I'm going to take a picture of it with my cell phone and put it on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. It will simply say, "These treats will kill your cat. Google Temptations cat treats and read the horrific deadly accounts on Consumer Affairs."

Companies, for the most part, will not recall items and class action lawsuits are very difficult. The best way to get them off the market is lack of sales. Spread the word through social media, start Facebook campaigns and gather signatures, video your sick cat and put it online. Email or tweet Robin Meade on Headline News. Put up signs at grocery stores and Walmart. Managers will take them down but not before a lot of people and employees read them. Go back next week and do it again. All they can do is tell you to stop if they catch you. You're not breaking any laws. Do not throw the bags or the treats away. Through enough social media exposure, we should be able to get a testing lab to make independent tests and they may want people to send the treats to them. Eventually, with enough consumer pressure and lack of sales, MARS will be forced to pull them off the market completely.

My cat got 6 treats an hour ago and she just came running into the bedroom like she was on fire and is now clawing at my legs. This is the last time she will ever get anything unnatural. I never feed my dog anything unnatural and I'm not going to give our cat anything unnatural either. This is a new day and age, folks. We don't have to beg any company to pull a product. We can kill them on social media.

After I make my posts, I will come back here and give everyone the links...... And everyone else, come back here and post your links too. We all must do this for all the animals and pet lovers who have suffered greatly. I'm sure there are many more who have not posted here and we need to get some measure of retribution and be vigilant animal activists and not corporate guinea pig pacifists!

My black & white cat passed away. While taking the dog to the vet to have her claws clipped someone came in with a sick cat. I asked the owner what he had been feeding the cat and surprise, surprise it was Whiskas cat food. My two girl kitties both LOVED these Temptations treats! After letting them have five pieces a day for about a year, they started to vomit and have diarrhea about an hour after they ate these treats. After several days of this happening, I took them to the vet. Both cats were experiencing serious kidney failure! By process of eliminating all other foods one by one, we discovered that these problems had been caused by the Temptations treats. We managed to keep my poor girls going for awhile even with the kidney damage, but it had gone too far. Both my girl kitties were dead within three months despite all efforts to help them.

This all happened about a year ago. I'm still so angry, hurt and I feel so guilty for giving my girls poison disguised as Temptations cat treats. I'm afraid the pain will never go away. I've had a cat and sometimes multiple cats, all my life (well over half a century!) and this is the first time I've ever lived without a kitty friend in my life. I'd love very much to have another cat, but I won't. I just can't handle the endings anymore. Especially knowing that I'm the one that brought about my girls' death myself. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that some of the other kittens withdrew for treat time after dinner. "Frankie T" my treat junkie started to become ILL. He started to throw up and then the other cats started to become ILL also. I really thought it was a virus. I took Frankie T to the vet and after $1000 worth of bills we found he had some plastic grass in his tummy. I am a first time cat mommy so I had no idea cats would eat plastic plants... My fault for not being educated. It seems he ate the plastic grass to try to settle his tummy.

After all the kittens became ILL... I went through all their dry food and put it in the garbage thinking it was possibly tainted. I sterilized all their bowls and even changed all the litter in case it was a virus. I even threw out the bag of treats. But because my cat loved his treats so much I bought another container of them. (I thought I had gotten a bad bag... not thinking they were all tainted). It is the only common denominator. The only thing that all the kittens ate and about an hour after they ate it they threw up. There is something wrong with these treats. Please do not give them to your cats. It has been horrible watching them all throw up and becoming weaker by the day. I feel horrible as I have basically made my little family sick...trying to be nice... Giving them treats. I stopped the treats a few days ago after I saw several posts from others who have cats with the same symptoms and tying it back to these treats. I noticed that my one cat that is practically addicted to these treats was sniffing them and walking away - he no longer was interested in eating them. He must have sensed something was wrong.

I have taken my cats to the vet and they were given fluids and had blood work done. Thankfully the blood work came back fine. The only thing we can link their sickness back to is these treats as the cats that do not eat these treats are completely fine. I am now syringe feeding and watering them. On Thursday morning at 1 am, I fed my cat a brand new, just opened bag of temptations whiskas tartar control treats in chicken flavor that I bought this week from Pathmark in Jersey city, NJ. My healthy and very rambunctious cat loves to chase treats, much to my exhaustion because the game never seems to end. This time I obliged her with eating about 15-20 of these very tiny treats, since she didn't have much to eat all day and the treats were much tinier than the hairball control ones I used to occasionally treat her with. The package said that they could eat up to a quarter cup per serving if it was a meal replacement. Approximately 1 hour after running around after each treat and eating them, my cat had inexplicably withdrawn under a nearby seat. She's usually my shadow and requires all of my attention. After 2 hours I coaxed her out and found her laying semi conscious in a large pool of her own pungent vomit. She was delirious and unable to stand.

I rushed her to the vet and on the five minute drive she vomited on herself again so much so that the vet had to clean her up before even examining her limp body. Thursday she spent the entire day and night in intensive care on watch that her kidneys were failing due to severe food poisoning. She has been hooked up to an iv and is being fed by a tube as I write this, just 48 hours after I fed her these treats! She was healthy, extremely energetic, spayed and up to date on all her vaccinations, without any medical issues before early Thursday morning when I fed her treats from this bag of whiskas. So far her medical bills in the last 24 hours has cost me over $1000 in cash and counting and my loved ones' health is in severe jeopardy. To see if I missed any warning info, I immediately looked online to see if there was a recall I missed on cat treats, only to see that another customer who fed her cats the same treats in the last week also had a similar experience with her cat who was vomiting and had bloody stools just a couple hours after eating the treats. There is obviously a tainted batch of whiskas temptation treats out there and I regret every minute having fed her these and unknowingly poisoned my little girl.

I can only pray none of you feed your kitty these treats and have the same experience as we are having. It's not worth it. I would give anything to have my healthy and energetic cat back again. Seeing her in pain, fighting for her life is heartbreaking. Until the company investigates the tainted batches or is exposed to require a recall, I just wanted to warn fellow pet parents about this severe product contamination.

I used to give my cats about 4 of these a day. They would go insane for them. It is exactly like the commercials you see. One night, I was asleep and I heard what sounded like something falling on the ground. I went to look and I saw my boy was on the ground. This cat is super agile and never falls, as cats generally don't; they land on their feet. Anyway, I looked down to see him stumbling. I thought maybe he hit his head on the footboard and followed him out to the hall, where he was literally leaning on the wall and acting disoriented. It scared me to death. I thought he had a stroke or hit his head.

After about 5 min of this, he slowly gained his balance back and started acting like he did not understand what happened. It was awful. I tried to put out of my mind and thought it was just a head injury. Well a week later, I come home and he is normally at the door waiting for me and calling. He did not come when I called and was not responding. I went to see him and found him with his head down stumbling again and acting like he had no control over his walking. It freaked me out so bad that I called the emergency vet and made an appointment.

My cat had every single type of test. From bloodwork to ultrasound. There was nothing that the vets could find. After they ruled everything out, in the back of my head I kept thinking that maybe he is having some kind of reaction to the treats I was giving him. Some kind of sugar spike or something that would make him have a seizure. I don't know why that came to mind but that was the only thing I could think of that kept coming to mind.

I always wondered why the cats went insane for them. I wanted to find out for myself and conducted an experiment. I stopped giving him the treats completely. He was sad but got over it and I want you to know that my cat has not had 1 episode since. I am 100% sure that those treats are what caused the problems in my cat. If I can help people not make the same mistake I did, then I am grateful because as mentioned in the other threads, there is something going on with these and they should be pulled from all shelves.

The one person said that Temptation claims you can feed these treats as regular food? My experience and recommendations of this product from my vet was it was not to replace their normal food, even though it was written on the package. I was told that normal cat food is supposed to have the everyday health value that cats need and this Whiskas Temptation just doesn't meet that standard. I did notice that the "Hairball" Whiskas Temptation did make my cat vomit a hairball. The thing is I also have a product that I purchased through PetSmart that is a gel like substance with fish oil that is supposed to help with hairballs. Noticed our happy healthy 12yr old kitty losing weight, more than she usually does when the warm weather arrives. We have given her Whiskas Temptations treats (which she LOVES) since kittenhood with no apparent issues. Visited the vet within the last month for her usual checkup and she was down a bit in weight but not significantly. Last few days, we have noticed more bringing up -- some hairballs, some not, some after treats, some not. Her coat seems off, and she seems to have lost some muscle mass.

The manufacturer says the treats not subject to recall, stated they are made in US and Canada -- but when pressed on sourcing of ingredients, said vitamin components are sourced "in Asia". After reading this site and others, we have put away the treats -- but we will keep them in case a recall is announced for possible analysis. Better safe than sorry. My sympathies to all who have lost their beloved pets because of this or related issues, and whose contributions help to alert others before their little ones suffer a similar fate.

The veterinarians would not confirm that the treats were the cause but by process of elimination, I can't come to any other conclusion. Their veterinary treatments are well over $3,000 and they are still not totally out of the woods. I've been posting their progress on my Facebook page without specifically siting the temptation cat treats, as I can't confirm they were the cause. If there are any class action suits, please keep me informed. If I could recover some of my costs, that would be great. More importantly, I don't want other pets to suffer from the same fate.

The seizures grew more frequent as she aged. Her pupils would dilate and she would become rigid. Her body would also give off a weird chemical stench. We put her down at the age of 14 when she had an ongoing seizure. By the time we got her to the vet she had 12 seizures and the vet told us that she was blind. DO NOT feed your cat this food. Their food is given in small portions, and they eat 5 to 6 times a day (they are spoiled brats!... they'd bug you until you give them what they want). But sometimes they won't eat their food (cause anyone would get sick and tired of eating the same thing every day) so we alternate it with fish and rice. They've only been sick once in a while (also thanks to their vitamin C supplement), and it was due to some other reasons according to their vet.

I only bought Whiskas because my grandmother bought it for her cat all the time (she lived to be about 22 years old in human years), so I figured I'd use the same brand. Until one day, my cat Calcifer (age 3 this year) started peeing all over and getting very angry and touchy with us, so not like him!! We took him in and got an ultrasound done... Turns out he had tissue mass almost the size of my fist in his bladder... urinary tract infection! If we didn't pay so much attention to our cat's personality, it would've killed him within months they said. And now my oldest cat is showing the exact same signs as Calcifer did (plus my eldest cat has been throwing up his food minutes after eating it lately, which can't be good). Now I understand not all cats may be affected the same way... but 2/3 of my cats are showing that this food does not go well with them. All I can say is I won't be buying this brand of food anymore. And I hope all of you who feed it to your cat(s) just be careful and look for signs or differences in your cat's personality. Thanks for reading.

He offered to come to the house to put her down. I hand fed her and little by little, she is recovering.

I thought back as to what could have caused this to happen so suddenly. That is when I realized the Whiskas Temptation treats were opened and given to her the same time she got sick. It was the only new thing she was given. I found this website on a search and like the others my cat had all the same symptoms. I bought these treats at Walmart and they have an expiration date of September 2014. As far as I know, they have not been recalled and are still on the shelf. The problem is that my youngest, the 3 year old, has started throwing up everywhere and as of yesterday she threw up about 6 different times that I am aware of the most she has ever thrown up in one day to my knowledge. She lets out this horrible cry of pain and then starts the retching, and vomits about 4 times per session.

I was not aware that others have had issues with the Temptations treats making their cats ill until I googled it today and I am shocked at this! But it does make sense as I know for a fact yesterday at least 2 of the times that Lily threw up was about 20 minutes after eating (3) Temptation treats the beef with the cheese in the center. I give her and my older cat 3 Temptation treats in the AM and then 3 in the PM.

After reading this post I am afraid to give her any more today however she begs me to death for those treats! I am thinking I will go ahead and give her two this AM and see if she still throws up. I will follow up with this discussion to let you guys know what I find out as I am so worried I think I need to take her to the vet especially if she throws up like yesterday again.

When I woke up, my older cat Pixie had been throwing up all over. At first we thought she ate too much. So we watched her overnight and she continued to throw up. As soon as the vet opened at 7 am we were at their door. The vet after assessing Pixie gave her subcutaneous fluids, medication for nausea and Famotidine. They recommend an ultrasound but at this time I still thought the treats made her sick and she could get fluid to maintain her dehydration at bay would be better option.

The second day she continues with nausea and vomiting and still unable to drink or eat but was urinating. So I took Pixie back to the vet and they gave her more fluids and at this time the ultrasound with a specialist. But now the specialist was like I don't know the ultrasound is inconclusive but if we do surgery or endoscopy we can have a better picture and if it's nothing then we don't have to worry about it.

After finding this website and reading all the comments, now I know that my first assessment of my cat was the right one. She had some kind of food poisoning from the treats. She has one more vet visit tomorrow but so far the fluids and nausea medications and steroid injections shots. She has eaten a little bit today and has even climbed in her cat tower. I did file an FDA report. The primary vets listen to my story but the specialist was more interested in doing the ultrasound. After reading all the comments I was horrified and upset that no one has made this public. This has to be addressed. Our pets deserve to be healthy and safe from food poisoning.

For many years, I've used Whiskas Cat Food. I really don't know what to think with all the negative feedback. One Kitty lived to be 19 years old with the dry version. We have three cats at present, one is 21. The vet says she's healthy. We, of course, worry about her, maybe even obsess over her weight loss and I think that may be our fault because the dog (Peke) loves cat food like dessert... So we've got a handle on it now most of the time. We have been having a problem finding large sizes of the food lately. However, due to my concern in general, we're thinking of looking into foods because of the by-products and grains in Whiskas...

When I was younger I didn't know about health issues with the pets and that if you don't feed them a healthy diet, you spend it on vet bills... Sooner or later they suffer (in general) but not always... So again, I'm just not sure and of course economics do figure into how we feed our pets. So I say one must love your pets with some common sense and understand that unless they have a specific problem and are thriving, then I think like people, each one's system may have a higher tolerance or better immune system... Stress is another issue to consider in pets. Cats don't adjust well to change and paying attention to what stresses your cat could also help the immune system, just a thought... I know it works with humans.. So folks, food for thought...

I started giving my cat Whiskas treats and she loved them! I was so happy when I found something she actually liked. Then I noticed she became addicted to them and wouldn't eat anything else. She started to vomit right after she ate them but then would beg for more. I stopped giving her the treats and since then the vomiting has stopped and she has gained her weight back. I thought she was allergic to these treats but now I can see that is not the case. Thank you for this information. My daughter and I would be devastated if anything happened to our little Emma.

The last 3 or 4 bags of Whiskas Kitten chow I have bought from Walmart still have good dates on them, have had huge clumps of chow with mold all stuck together. My cats usually get this as a treat because they love it. No more!!!! I will be getting your address & sending you the last one that I actually kept. It has made all of my cats sick & throwing up. Had to take 3 of them to the vet for IV fluids because they were so dehydrated from being so sick. I would leave some of this in their bowl and usually by the next day or the day after, all of it would turn to mold.

What is up with this _ _ it? It could easily cause a cat to die. I have 7 babies that I have had since birth & it would kill me if something were to happen to them. This has just recently started happening & I don't understand why. Something needs to be done. Don't know if it is something from the factory or what. Really can't blame Walmart, all they do is put it on the shelves.

My 15-year-old female cat was fine and frisky even. Of all our animals, she was the healthy one. She lived only in the house. We bought a brand new bag of Whiska's Temptations "Seafood Medley" from Walmart three days ago, and now she is dead. I just finished burying her in the front yard. WTF! Around 2:35 a.m. on Wed., July 10, she vomited the ** up, went lethargic, yowled in pain, seized, and died this morning at 9:35 a.m. The expiration date is still good, but I don't know what the hell happened.

Somebody better deal with this threat, because BELOVED pets are dying! I can see by the other comments that this is rampant and from all across the nation. I am NEVER buying Whiskas products again. NEVER! And now, I'm posting this on Facebook and Twitter.

My cat began suddenly losing weight. I had been giving her Whiskas Temptation Treats for several months, and she liked them very much. When I took her to the vet, the doctor was shocked to see her x-rays and blood test results, as she had only 25% kidney function. My husband and I were heart-broken as the doctor told us there would be no cure for our beloved Thomasina. We decided that, to spare her the suffering the vet said was ahead of her, we would have her euthanized, last week.

A friend told my husband that Whiskas Temptation Treats cause kidney failure. I have now researched this and found many complaints from sad and angry cat owners who have very sick cats, or like us, have had to have their pet euthanized. This has been the saddest week of my life because both my husband and I loved our little companion so much. Please investigate the Whiskas product and determine if it is safe for cats. I don't want any other cat owners to lose their little pets, like I lost mine.

Twice, my cat became ill and was near death. First, it was vomiting. Then, she became catatonic. She wouldn't eat or move, and her breathing was so labored. She didn’t eat for a week. The first time this happened, the vet's tests were inconclusive so I didn't know what caused it. Was it an allergic reaction to household products? Pancreatitis? There were too many possibilities, but the second time it happened, I realized that she got sick right after eating the WILD Salmon cat treats (other cat treats, she had no reaction to). I think these things might be poison. How do I have them analyzed in a lab? I see others here who have complained about these things. It can’t be a coincidence...

We didn't buy any for a while and noticed after we did and gave them to him, he becomes very sick again. It’s almost like he is going through withdrawal symptoms. The vet did all the necessary tests to no avail. The bill was a lot for us. We know it’s the treats and I tell any cat person to stay away from these things. What is in these things and it seems like a lot of other people have this problem? I wish someone from this company would step up to the plate and stop making our animals knowingly sick. Shame on. I have of course stopped giving him the treats, and he has shown some improvement but still vomits about once a day. I have seen other people say this about these treats. I do not know why they want them so much, and yes, they will tear open the bags if you leave them out. The last several days, whenever I gave both of my cats this flavored treat, they both started experiencing a lot of vomiting. One of my cats howled like she was in agony right before she vomited. I have bought these flavors before and she never had any issues. I think some ingredients may have been changed and maybe not tested before being released. Nothing else has changed in how I am feeding them, and I know it's the treats. About 10 minutes after they eat them, they vomit. I do know that I will never buy this brand ever again. If anything happens to my cats because of these treats, that will be even worse.

This morning, I mindlessly gave my cat three pieces of Whiskas Temptations treats that he got in his stocking. I had not tried them before this moment. Within 5 minutes, he was vomiting. At first, I was not alarmed as he vomits from time to time, but this has been an affair now. We took him to the ER vet after about 20 minutes of non-stop vomiting. By the time we got to the vet, he had stopped vomiting. The vet concluded that the treats did not agree with him, and we could pay $200 to have the ER vet give him an IV and anti-vomiting medicines. We decided to forgo these suggestions and take him home. Three hours later, he vomited at least two more times and the latest was pink. Clearly, there is some blood happening. I'm very nervous but praying this ends soon. After reading all the reports on the Whiskas products and other cats having similar symptoms, I'm convinced this product is no good!

I purchased Whiskas brand kitten food a few days ago. I fed my kittens, and immediately, they started having fecal incontinence, and their rectums were inflamed and protruding. I kept an eye on them and came to the conclusion it was the food. I stopped giving it to them. My adult cat got into it, and it inflamed her rectum as well. All 3 cats looked better after they stopped eating it. The runt, with his extremely small size, continued to have fecal incontinence throughout the day. He didn't seem right, just meowing constantly and looking at me.

I felt awful, but it's the weekend, and the vet is closed. I figured they would get better and Monday I would see a doctor. Well, he died in the night. He was in an awful position, his back was extended and curved, eyes open, mouth open, and legs out like he was reaching for something. I think he may have had heart failure. I noticed my other kitten and cat's bums are completely clear of the red inflammation. I’m still keeping an eye on them, but they seem fine. I have been crying all morning. Axle didn't have a chance at life, and I truly believe it was because of something in this food. I called the store, and they hung up on me several times, refusing to do anything about the product. I plan on calling corporate on both companies. I am intensely angry. I am trying to keep my cool until something can be done. I plan on taking action before more cases come up.

My mother's beloved white cat passed away yesterday. She had been feeding him Whiskas Temptations treats anytime he wanted them but this time was different. He had eaten more than he usually eats and became ill almost immediately. He became lethargic and would no longer eat food on his own. He had trouble using his back legs and his breathing became labored. He had to be fed softened food and water with a syringe.

My mother took him to the vet who took x-rays and blood tests. His creatine levels were very high and his red blood cell count was very low. The vet told her that he had some type of autoimmune system illness similar to leukemia but was not leukemia. This was attacking his liver and kidneys causing them to fail. They had no idea why this illness suddenly appeared. He had been very active until he had eaten the treats. My family is convinced that Whiskas Temptations Cat Treats are the culprit of the sudden immune system failure. Your company needs to look into these complaints and destroy this product. You have no idea how much pain and grief you have caused families because of your negligence. This cat was my mother's whole life.

I was going to take them back to the supermarket but could not take that kind of smell back in. I could not even put it in my bin, so had to burn it. The other packs are fine so I don't really know what it was that made it smell. The packet was quite wet when opened; it could have been blood. Really disappointed.

At the check-out, the coupon would not go through. A front-end manager came over and I was advised that this coupon was a 'do-not double' coupon and could not be used as a triple. Nowhere on the coupon was this stated. I was advised that this was embedded in the bar code. If this is true, I find this practice deplorable. I specifically bought this item to go along with the triple coupon. If I was not watching the cash register, this would not have been caught. If the grocery store is incorrect, I would also like to know so that I can bring this to their attention.

We took him to the vet and within 24 hours had to euthanize him due to severe Acute Renal Failure. His creatinine levels were up to 7.7 (normal high being 2.5). After searching our house for clues as to what happened, we found a bag of Whiskas Temptations Treats that had been clawed and torn to get into. There were no other signs and after doing my own research, I am convinced this was the cause of his death. It has caused our family tremendous grief and heartache. My cat is 17. She started vomiting, with diarrhea and peeing all over the house. She stopped eating too and was losing a lot of weight. I took her to the vet but cannot afford all the tests they wanted to do and settled for an X-ray. They could only tell me that her kidney was shrinking but that could happen when cats get older. They gave me pain meds and anti-nausea meds and told me to feed her more canned food as I usually only gave her a spoonful at dinner time for the dogs. So I gave her more canned food and took away her dry food.

When she started feeling better, I gave her back her dry food (Purina Special Care for Urinary tract) and gave her the Whiska's treats. Within a couple days, she started getting sick again. So I took away the dry food again since she wasn't eating. She started feeling better again, so I thought it was the food. Then I just fed her the canned food but started giving her the treats again. She went back downhill again, so I have stopped the treats and believe that is the problem. She has been feeling better ever since but once in awhile will throw up but she is still eating.

I think she lost some eyesight and lost some of her balance. She went from 13 pounds down to 6. She no longer has diarrhea and uses her cat box where before she was going all over the house. Each time she got sick, I thought it was the end as she looked so miserable but just when I thought I'd have to euthanize her, she would recover a bit and start eating the canned food. Since I've only been feeding her canned food, she may have gained a few pounds back but I don't think she will be back to normal. It started in the Fall of 2011 and it is now February 2012.

I have been unemployed and can barely make my house payment so I cannot afford to take her to the vet. Is there something else I can do that doesn't cost much money? I want my cat back to normal. She is a house cat only, not outside at all. She no longer plays and only gets up when she's hungry. I feed her about 5 times a day now about a big forkful. She will eat that for a couple hours each time nibbling a little at a time. Right now she's not getting worse but not improving much. What can I do?

I have been feeding my cat Temptation Cat Treat for the past 3-4 years and recently he has developed severe urinary tract/kidney problems. There is a great deal of blood in the urine and no matter what we tried (antibiotics, diet change) it is not stopping. I am certain it is because of the treats because our cat is obsessed over the treats and we have been giving in to our cats’ constant demands to eat more treat. If we do not feed him the treats, he will go "on strike" and refuse to leave the feeding area where we usually distribute treats. He will complain and claw like a drug addict. These treats have animal digest and I am sure there is nothing healthy about these treats.

Temptation Cat Treats are dangerous to the health of our pets and needs to be notified. My cat is in serious condition right now and we are certain it is the treats that have caused the damage.
