I have been taking my dog for day camp once or twice a week at the PetSmart hotel for a very long time. But over the year, my dog has been injured 3 times. The first time after I picked him up, I notice that he was limping on his front leg and I asked the manager how that happened but he could not answer me (since they don’t make reports or anything up this location). Second time, his nail was bleeding because it was broke down and the guardians said that my dog plays rough because they could not come up with anything else. But I told the manager that they need to watch the dogs on play time since that’s what I am paying for, to watch over my dog.

The last time it happened about 3 weeks ago. When I went to picked him up, his nose was bleeding and he got a scar on the right side of his nose. Nobody could tell me how my dog was injured like that because they don’t watch the dogs at all. Unfortunately, I can’t find a place that would open that late but I don’t need to put out with this because I am paying them to watch over my dog but obviously, it is not happening.

I booked a Pethotel reservation for June 5 through June 14, 2009 for my three dogs who stayed there on previous occasions without problems. The last time before this stay was in March '09 for four nights. The two small dogs, a miniature Schnauzer and 4.5 lb Maltese (both females, all three dogs are fixed) were always kept in the same run. My 50 lb male standard Poodle puppy (a very bouncy 14 month old) was always in his own run and the kennel was told to never have the three together. Poodle (Humphrey) is well socialized (in training to be a visiting therapy dog) and not at all aggressive in any way towards animals or children. He is just very playful and does not realize how big he is. When I checked the three dogs into the kennel, the girl on duty asked if it was okay if the two little dogs could be kept in a run across from or next to Humphrey. Again, I said it was okay as long as they were always separated.

I had Humphrey booked for three doggie day care days to burn off his energy. The Pethotel manager told me that they put him in the daycare daily because he was so high energy (which is normal for him). When we came back 10 days later to pick up the dogs, we were shocked and horrified to see the three dogs in the same run! I immediately said that I had booked two runs, one for the small dogs and one for Humphrey. They insisted that there weren't any problems. The Schnauzer is afraid of Humphrey because years ago she was attacked by a German Shepherd. Mindi (Maltese) used to like to play with Humphrey (before this happened) but only while under strict and close supervision by me at home. Otherwise, the little dogs are always kept separate from him, inside and outside.

I brought a very bouncy and energetic, perfectly happy and healthy little Maltese to the Pethotel and now, she is so sad. Her coordination is so wobbly. She must lie down to urinate because she can't squat. She is very depressed and lethargic, barely eating or drinking. She is a very different dog. She is only 5 years old. I spent a lot of time looking for a reputable Maltese breeder, through the AKC Club and the American Maltese Association. My dogs have always received the best medical care and attention I could give them. Now because of an neglectful mistake, I may have to be forced to put her to sleep. Mindi was in perfect health when she was brought to the Pethotel. Only five days before she was boarded, she had a full medical check up with blood and urine work, and a complete dental cleaning with gas. If the vets are in any doubt with the blood and urine results, they will postpone the dental work. I depended on, trusted and paid this boarding facility to give my dogs the care I asked them to.

Nearly all the Pethotel staff know my dogs, especially the manager. I find it very strange and careless that none of them noticed or found it strange that the three dogs were together in the same run. No one took a minute or two to check the reservation in the computer to see if indeed. They were booked to be together. It's a form of animal abuse. If I had known my little Maltese would be in the same run as Humphrey, I would not have boarded her there. When I think of how my poor little dog must have suffered, the fear, the shock and pain and being left there by me, I am absolutely sick about this. I feel as if I have let my best friend down.

I am also upset that Humphrey had the opportunity to do this. I have put in countless training hours with him, and have him well socialized to become a therapy dog. When I think of what he has innocently done, I have no doubts of what has happened. I keep my dogs' coats in beautiful condition, no knots or tangles. They are regularly groomed by professional groomers and I brush and comb them daily. Mindi's tail and ears were so badly matted and tangled with knots. I wish I had taken pictures from before I washed her and removed them. I asked the vet I saw today what he would do if it were my dog and he said wait a week or two. If there is no improvement, have her put to sleep. He said the dog is clearly very unhappy and has no quality of life.

Mindi was seen by two veterinarians. Blood and urine tests were taken, lead test done, Valley Fever test, all were perfect. X-rays were taken of chest and spine, no diseases or abnormalities noted. Vets concluded neurological damage due to head trauma. They recommended to see dog neurologist or wait two weeks to see if any improvement. If not, have dog put to sleep. This dog cost $2,500 to purchase. She had two hind leg operations done, costing $4,000, plus five years of medical costs, grooming, etc. I am in shock, absolutely heartbroken. Traumatized to the point that I can't eat or sleep. I feel guilty although it wasn't my fault. This five-year young beautiful little dog could easily have been my friend and companion for another 8 to 10 years or more. I know it's not Humphrey's fault but every time I look at him now, it's not with the same eyes.

On June 13 at 10am, I brought my 4-year-old healthy shih tzu for grooming. At 10:30am, the PetSmart groomer called me to say while cutting her nails, they noticed a broken blood vessel in her eye. I went to get her and her eye was bulging and totally red top and bottom. The manager was unsympathetic, said excitable dogs may get a dedicated service that costs more. I would never return there.

The manager said they would not reimburse my veterinarian bill unless the vet provided proof it was PetSmart's fault. My vet referred me to an emergency hospital so that her eye pressure could be measured and other tests conducted. They prescribed an ointment and did say it was probably caused by strangulation but I do not have that in writing so I had to pay $150. I've read many other accidents/deaths after this incident and some were due to cutting nails.

I purchased a pet vest on June 7, 2009 at 11:29 am. I tried it on our bunny on June 8, 2009, in the morning. I went to return it and the manager refused to take it back trying to say it was unsellable when I had the packaging it came in. He was nasty and abusive and claimed it was against the Department of Health to take it back. No one told me that when we purchased it that if we tried it on our pet, we could not return it because of some Department of Health code. They have dogs that walk around with fur shedding everywhere!

The man was nasty and abusive. I asked for the number to headquarters and called while on the premises to which he ordered me to get out of his store. Headquarters asked to speak with him to which he lied claiming I used profanity more than once and that there was hair on the item. This was completely a lie. I did say the word that's "**" once because I thought he was just being mean to my 10 year old who I had sent in to get back his money. We have spent over $500 in their store. They took back a water bottle previously that had no packaging when we returned it. I think it is a complete sham. It says you have 60 days to return it. I have the packaging that only needs to be re-stapled down the side.

A week and a half ago I bought 40 feeder fishes from PetSmart. I added them like I always do and thought nothing of it. My fish (4 kissing fish and 2 cichlids) never touched the fish, but they started dying off at an alarming rate. I thought that maybe they were just older when I bought them, until my fish started acting really strange. I woke up this morning to find all 4 of my kissing fish dead and one of my cichlids, the other is struggling to live now. I'm not sure what happened, and I have no proof. But I believe that PetSmart has contaminated products. This isn't the first time I've had issues with their products. I bought plants for my turtle tank a while back, and now my filter is infested with snails that won't go away. I believe that by tomorrow morning the last of my fish will have died. Thanks to disgusting products they sell to trusting people. I will never purchase another thing from PetSmart, no matter how much more I have to pay elsewhere.

I was at PetSmart today trying to get some fish, and they refused to sell me any for no reason. I know their 18-year-old policy, and I am over 18 years old. But they still won't sell me any fish. They also said that I have had multiple returns so they were being extremely mean. I think it's not our fault if the fish dies within 2 weeks because they do have a 2 week guarantee plan. So what is the matter with them? If they have a 2 week guarantee on their fishes or pets, then we, as customers, should use it. If they don't like it, then they shouldn't have this policy. Personally, I think the employees there have some kind of hatred towards us. Not only that, she was really rude. She even said that even if we bring our parents in, she still wouldn't sell us any fish. I think she should get fired.

I bring my pets to their grooming services and had told him that his employees should be drug tested. I could have sworn that I saw a couple of groomers in their car smoking what seemed to be weed. It is not the only time I have gotten the feeling that they were on something. I just stopped taking my pups in to be groomed there. I still buy food and other supplies, but others' pets are in possible jeopardy of neglect or harm if these girls are really getting high while on the job. I mentioned tall my concerns to the manager. I know he said he would take care of it, but I do not believe anything will be done.

A few weeks ago, I took my baby boy Angelo (a 14-week old Welsh Corgi) to the groomers. I give him regular baths at home and I follow professional grooming manuals to the letter. However, I wanted him to get his nails done and his ears cleaned. We made an appointment and got the Puppy Package for him. I dropped him off. The girl there was rude and cold to me, and to an elderly couple who was picking up their Chihuahua. We handed Angelo over and went out to finish our shopping. Mind you, this was a Sunday and they weren't that busy. We got a call at 1:30, saying he'd be ready for pickup in about 20 minutes. When I got there, she still had an attitude as she brought him back to me. I had to ask for the bandana they were supposed to give me for free, but that wasn't the issue. After sending my boyfriend out to pay, they finally handed me my dog.

Problem one: As he scurried to get away from her and to me, he clawed my arm. As I was carrying him out, I checked his paws and saw his nails were untouched. They hadn't even tried to file them. Problem two: He hadn't been washed. At most he had some water dumped on him because his undercoat was coarse and dirty feeling. I've owned enough dogs to know when they've been washed well and he had not. Problem three: His ears were still filthy. They hadn't done anything, except leave a redness in his right ear. We tried to dismiss it, but we were livid. Tonight, we had to take my baby to the 24-hour hospital because the redness was worse. Not only that, he began mauling his ear; shaking his head; and crying loudly. The vet swabbed him and he has a yeast infection that we'll be treating for 7-10 days and hope it doesn't become recurring.

My point is not only did the woman not do her job, but she hurt my puppy. The vet said we can't prove she did anything since infections are so easy to catch, but he's never had one before. She said what may have happened is they may have poured/gotten water in his ear which, as any real groomer will tell you, is a huge no-no for Corgis. The poor little guy is still suffering, but hopefully he will improve. And while we're at it, to heck with Banfield too. I worked as a temp for Science Diet once in customer service/order acquisition. Banfield and PetSmart were always given special, private treatment by an elite group of people. They wouldn't even speak to us grunt, except to make outrageous demands when their elite team was out to lunch. They are an untrustworthy place who make fat cat deals. I also woke uo to a face full of medicine smelling fur the next day, when she was sleeping next to me.
I waited 24 hours an gave her a bath, the area still continued to bother her. I also noticed that she seems more lethargic on walks, doesn't catch things very well anymore, and paces a lot more. since her reaction is not as extreme as other on here, I hope that she will fully recover. All I am seeking is that all makers of these topical flea/tick products advise a 1/2 dose for the first time. I also seek that petsmart and other pet stores have informational pamphlets available on the isle that these products are sold.

I returned the bags of food to PetSmart and they acted like it was inconvenient, but were not at all as shocked and horrified about the mold. I felt that they were used to having people return food with mold in it. They gave me back my money, didn't even look in the bags to see if I was telling the truth. They didn't seem to even care. I have since written PetSmart 3 more times and they continue to ignore me. I guess they are either so used to complaints about problems with their foods, or they couldn't care less about people's pets. If they don't even contact me about the food, what does that say about them as a business? I am not looking for money or free food, just confirmation that they know and are dealing with their obvious problem with storage and rotation of their foods. Nothing... My 3-month old Shih Tzu received the puppy trim special at $15.99 in Dec. '08 and on Sat, 1-24-09, I dropped him off to be groomed (the puppy special) again. Well, when I arrived at about 2pm, he hadn't been trimmed. I sent my daughter into the salon while waiting outside for 15 min. because they wouldn't release him to my 9-year old daughter who told them that her mom was just outside. I was expecting to pay at the front counter, but they kept asking my daughter if she'd paid. After a total of about 20 minutes, I went inside (I was handling phone calls because it was my daughter's birthday) and that's when I saw my dog. He had been shampooed and blow-dried, but not cut. The manager (Ryan) did inform me that the cut only included the hair on the face and legs or feet, but the hair on his face had NOT been trimmed either! So I was then charged $59.99 (the adult dog groom price) for an overall trim.

At this time, it was a bit of a rush job, and the overall trim was done excluding his face AGAIN. The trim on the body was not nice and even. Overall, it was not a GOOD JOB. I called the store manager once I left the store, but she attempted to direct me to the salon manager (Ryan) whom I had previously dealt with, but didn't exhaust all efforts to rectify the situation. I was VERY pleased with the first service! I am also happy with the current training classes I am currently enrolled in and I spend a lot of time and money in this store, but I am NOT satisfied with the situation or the salon service me, my daughter, and my dog received on Sat (1-24-09).

A few days after Christmas 2008, I bought two Guinea Pigs from the store above. One of the requirements of owning Guinea Pigs is that their nails must be cut regularly. Right after the Holidays, my wife brought them to our local veterinarian to at least see how this cutting should be done and to determine if this was something we could do ourselves. After seeing the Guinea pigs and running some tests, it was confirmed that one had pneumonia and the other had ear mites and/or ringworm. We called Petsmart to ask that they either pay for the bill since pets were sick when purchased but all PetSmart would do is exchange the animals.

It is important to note that PetSmart advertises, including specifically on the box that the guinea pigs are taken home in, that they have been looked at by a veterinarian before they sell them and are fed a special diet (whatever that is) to make sure they are healthy. Neither pneumonia nor the ringworms and/or ear mites developed in the time we had the pets so they were not healthy when purchased. After 5 days at home, it is not reasonable to expect small children to return pets and exchange for new ones just because that is store policy and the store did not deliver a healthy animal.

Well... partial way through my dogs' stay, my emergency contact person decided to pay a visit to my dogs to see how their stay was going. She ended up taking them home that day... 6 days into their 11 day stay. Both of the dogs were scratching like mad, sniffling, coughing and eager to leave. The dogs were taken to the vet when I returned and were diagnosed with kennel cough. They were both infested with flea bites (luckily, both dogs had been given a dose of their advantage flea medicine before I left on vacation). They both lost weight and they had fevers. A few days later... when the stool samples came back, they were diagnosed with worms and parasites and now today, October 9, the female is showing blood in her urine. Although this is not a complaint about the store or the staff, this is a complaint about the hiring process.

I was selected to be interviewed at a local Petsmart opening a few towns over. I applied to work in the grooming salon, since I have had an interest in learning grooming as a trade, and groom my own 2 dogs. I understood that Petsmart sends their groomers to a grooming school, and are then bound to a 2 year contract, I did my research before even applying to the job. I've always wanted to try and become a groomer.

I was called the next day after applying by the manager to come be interviewed for the position I applied for, pet bather.

I came in for the "interview" only to have my excitement turn to disgust, as the manager began telling me all the reasons I was not right for the job without ever asking me a question. I was in college, so according to him this meant I would not be sticking around. I was horrified that a manager would even bother setting up an "interview" with someone that he already had his mind made up about.

He said that ALL bathers become groomers, which was fine with me, as I had intention of working my way up to groomer. I told him that I already knew what becoming a groomer meant, that I would have to work for Petsmart grooming for 2 years. He kept countering everything I said with more excuses as to why I couldn't have the job. He painted me as a job hopping college kid, which, if he would have looked at my background, would see that I pick a job and stay with it for a long time.

Pedro is a sorry excuse for a manager.

I decided to stick with my current job, the one I would have left for Petsmart. I was recently promoted to HR, where I do all the hiring. I don't understand why a manager would call someone in for an "interview" when he could have simply looked at my information I provided in the application, and decide he didn't want me. Apparently he just wanted to SEE my dreams crushed in person. I took time off of work and drove 2 towns over for this "interview". I've been so disgusted by the experience I will never shop Petsmart again.

I later went into the Petsmart when I was over in that area again, only to notice most of the people working in the grooming salon looked like they could bearly keep their own appearance up, let alone make a dog look good. Maybe I was just TOO good for this job.

The groomer did not advise Ted that Sandee was somehow injured and could not stand on all four paws. Instead, after paying the bill Ted went to get Sandee the groomer had already leashed her. As Ted walked away to leave Sandee only took a few steps and laid down. In his attempts to get her to walk he noticed her left hind leg was barely touching the ground. At that time he asked for assistance.

The vet at Banfield Vetnary Clinic (located within PetsMart) examined Sandee. Sandee was under extreme stress and in pain and let go of her movements. The vet did state to Ted that she could feel clicking in Sandee's knee joint. X-rays were taken and the vet pointed out the arthritis in Sandee's left hip. Which we knew about. The store manager stated that Sandee has a pre-existing condition, now how could that be...she walked in on four and had to be carried out of PetsMart. Ted then contacted our vet at Cinder Rock Vetnary Clinic here in Redmond, Oregon. Our vet examined Sandee briefly in the examination room, noted the clicking in the knee. Stated that Sandee needed to be sedated for further examination and x-rays and that the x-rays from Banfield were not adequate. Diagnosis: torn ACL, our vet asked if Sandee had slipped, fallen off the table, restrained and resisted or got her hind leg caught in the cage at the groomer.

We stated that the groomer denied any action that would cause Sandee to limp so she must have been limping when she arrived. As a groomer who has been advised to be careful of a pet's delicate situation wouldnt you think she would have made a comment in the beginning? Our vet stated that we might speak with the Banfield vet to do the surgery, as our vet does not do the procedure that is required. So we make yet another trip to Bend. However, this time the vet will not speak with us personally. Only thru an assistant, stating that she has already done more than she should have and is concerned about not getting paid. Hello, is there an oath about taking care of the animal somewhere?

So, we ask who they would recommend to do the surgery. Dr. M., Dr. F. not sure as the assistant only mumbled and did not write anything down. She only stated that the doctor travels to clinics and could do the procedure at our vet's office. So, we call our vet again and advise of what Banfield stated. We were then referred to Bend Vetnary Clinic, Dr. P. Now we have to wait until 07/03/08 for an appointment just for the consultation. In the meantime the manager of PetsMart has stated he would reverse the charges for the grooming(to date 07/13/08 NOT) and to get copies of our vets notes and he will give to the corporate office in Portland. Consult day 07/03/08; x-rays in hand Dr. P. describes what happens to a dog knee thru life. There are signs of normal aging and a tear is noted, just how new would be determined in surgery. Now pick a procedure that not only is best for the pet's recovery due to age and factor in her previous hip injuries at age 2. Surgery scheduled for 07/08/08, still no call from corporate, Bend store manager advised of surgery pending. Sandee makes it thru surgery and is recovering nicely, the tear was new and noted as being within two weeks.

Now we get to bring our sedated dog home on 07/09/08. Oh, you want to know how much we have spent at this point, just $3, 038 and change. Corporate finally called 07/10/08, stating that there was a third party vet who examined Sandee and this is a pre-existing condition. Has corporate stayed up all night attending to a pet that is in pain, has to be picked up and carried out to attempt to urinate or give pills to or feed with a spoon or cried with their pet on the floor in the middle of the night? Has corporate looked at the surveillance camera tapes of Sandee walking into the store and having to be carried out? How come they do not have a camera on the groomer or do they? Corporate stated make copies of the surgeons notes and provide to Bend store manager on Monday, 07/14/08 and the manager will provide copies to corporate.

Now let us discuss the grooming of our Sandee, bad hair cut, abrasions on her stomach and still does not look, smell or feel like she was even washed and that my folks costs $70.00 because she is a Chow mix. As of today's date 07/18/08 we have not heard from store manager or coporate...you know I will be calling today. It is getting close to contacting the local media and reveal just what is going on.

Here is a news flash...I have a niece in AZ who works for Petsmart. She stated that there is a company policy for older dogs, called "Express Groom" and that Sandee should have been expressed or not had the appointment that took several hours.

I had a 12:00 appointment to have my dog (Amy) groomed. When I dropped her off an employee told me she was writing a pick up time of 4:00 on the paperwork but my dog should be ready before then. My niece and I went to a movie and to a store. We decided to go back at approximately 3:10 and check on Amy. When I went to check on her the same lady in the grooming department now told me it would be 4:30 before Amy would be ready. I told her I did not understand this as I had a 12:00 appointment. I was told it was my dogs fault because she did not like the dryer. (Amy is 8 months old, weighs less than 8 pounds and never been groomed by anyone except Petsmart. She was started with grooming as a puppy and has attended puppy kindergarten at Petsmart).

I was told that she was taken in for a bath as soon as I dropped her off (11:50) and was sitting air drying all this time. I commented that I take her in the pool and then into my home and it does not take her 3 1/2 hours to dry (Amy's fur is kept shaved, not long). I was told they had just checked and she was still wet. I was told this was because she was in an area where baths are given so it takes longer for her to dry. This means my dog was left wet for over 3 1/2 hours. I left and went into the store and asked an employee if I could speak to a manager. This employee told me she was a manager (Diane). I told her about the situation and we went back to the grooming salon. She went and talked to staff and came back to again tell me it was my dogs fault.

When I mentioned that Amy had never been a problem before I was then informed that she had always been a problem and had actually bitten staff before. When asked why this was not reported to me I was told the store policy is to report it only if it breaks the skin. Otherwise they don't want to tell the customer. I told her if Amy was a problem to groom then that was a reflection on them since she was brought as a puppy and their job was to make grooming a positive experience for her. I also told them it was their fault for not reporting any problems(I have watched Amy groomed several times with my niece and have never seen her bite anyone. Since this episode yesterday I have spoken to my sister who also says she has watched Amy groomed and has never seen her bite).

At this point I told her I would just take Amy now as I had my 6 year old niece and could not kill another 1 1/2 hours. Diane then told the groomer to change me to a bath and brush and change the cost. I stopped her and asked if I was correct in assuming she was charging me for something that was not done (Amy was not dried or brushed). She told me that I would be charged because they had performed the package to the best of their ability. At that point I told her no problem. Keep Amy as long as they needed and finish the grooming.

I knew at this point I would just never bring her back again and that I would write a complaint to the corporate office. I asked Diane who her boss was. She told me she did not have a boss because the store did not have a store manager at this time. I asked for the phone number for the corporate office. At this point she walked off. I went to the front of the store and waited. I watched her go down several aisles and help customers as she was stopped. I eventually went to see where she was and found her talking to another employee. They walked off and went to a room together. After a short period the second employee walked off and went to the grooming salon. I then took my niece and began walking there. She came out and met me on an aisle. She asked me what had been happening. I again related what was happening. She told me I never should have been told that I had to pay for the bath and brush. She also wanted me to point out the employee who had told me Amy would probably be ready early.

We walked to the grooming salon. When I looked through the glass there was Amy being groomed by a groomer and with Diane holding her. These two groomers were trying to groom her and holding her around the throat to hold her head still. Diane and the groomer were now tring to groom Amy so fast and by holding her down that Amy was barking and trying to bite. They kept looking through the glass at me I guess to make sure I saw Amy trying o bite. Every other grooming I have watched the groomer would let Amy lick them and then scissor a little from her face. They would then talk to Amy and scissor a little more. These ladies were holding down my small dog and coming at her with scissors. They didn't stop when she was scared but just held her firmer.

During this Jodie went in and began talking to them. In essence the employee who was rude to me is not forcefully holding my dog and Jodie has gone in to discuss the situation with her as she holds my dog. She also talked to the groomer who told me Amy would be ready early. I felt both were very inappropriate actions while still grooming my dog. Jodie then returned to me and told me the grooming was free. I told her I insisted on paying because the service was performed. I would just never bring Amy to Petsmart again. I then asked her for her title and was told she was a Pet care Manager. I asked why Diane went to her if Diane was a manager.

I was told Diane was not a manager but a support person. I again asked for the corporate number and was told an interim manager would be in the next day and I could call her. Jodie returned to me with the name of the interim manager (Kathy). She did not write the number for the store. I asked about the corporate number again and she agian told me to call Kathy tomorrow. I told her not to worry about the corporate number I would get it off the internet.

I feel Amy was mistreated by being left wet for over 3 hours and then forcefully groomed. Amy was returned to me with her face only partially groomed. A grooming that I have watched take almost and hour was done in approximately 10-15 minutes with force. I know I probably have no legal recourse. I have seen several sites that address the cruelty at Petsmart. Thank you for taking the time to allow me to voice my complaints.

I use to purchase Smokehouse Chicken and Duck breast strips, the package said all natural, for my 2 Chihuahua's. In February 2008 my female started to drink tons of water and constantly needed to urinate. I took her to the vet thinking she was developing diabetes. She was dumping lots of sugar in her urine but her glucose was normal. She had more tests as her kidneys were not functioning right, they were shutting down.

We checked the pond water, areas in our yard she plays, her diet and finally after about $600 in vet bills, it was the Chinese crappy treats again. Petsmart is still selling those Smokehouse treats after they were supposed to take them off the shelves last year (Sept 2007), but I figure they are good sellers for the store with a bottom line more important than our pets. I will never shop there again. Now my dogs get cut up Elk as a treat that my husband gets once a year, nothing processed or made in China. She has recovered after 3 months of medication and really! loves the new diet.

It cost us at least $600 in tests and appointments to make her healthy again. Not to mention the $1200 carpet she used to pee on when she was sick.

On June 10, 2008, I woke up in the morning to find my 12 month old pure bred Boston Terrier unable to walk/stand on his back rear legs and with fecal matter leaking out of him. He seemed fine when I went to bed the night before. At first I thought maybe he strained a muscle or his legs were asleep. I had to get to work, so I decided to take him with me. About 2 hours later, he was trying to stand and had more fecal matter coming out of him. I grabbed him up and took him outside, but he was unable to stand to go to the bathroom. I grabbed the fur on the back of his neck to see if he was dehytrated and it seemed like he was.

I then left work and took him to the vet. At first the vet thought he might have spinal injury or a disk problem because of his hind legs unable to support him. She took x-rays and asked if we had any lead in our yard or house. I told her No. She said the x-rays were showing lead poisioning and he was dying from it. She said it was very important to do surgery right away. While he was in surgery, I went home and checked out my backyard and found an area where a ball that I had purchased from either PetCo or PetSmart was chewed to pieces. We have purchased toys from both places. However, this particular one, I am pretty sure was from PetSmart.

I put all of it in a plastic bag to see if it matched what the vet was removing from my dog. It was a match. My vet said she had never had a case like that before and she was sorry that it happened, but she learned from it. Even the other vets at the same facility were there and can verify all of this. She was as outraged as I was, that a toy I bought would have lead in it. She is more than willing to talk about the surgery if needed to.

Our dog is resting from the surgery today. However, it was extremely stressful and the surgery cost about $1,500.00. This money was to be used for my house payment and now I am going to be late, unless I can come up with it! Plus he still needs to go in for follow-up treatment. My wife and daughter were very upset as well. I lost 2 days work, which my wife and I own our business as a printer. I am the only pressman and so if the press is not running, I lose money and I was unable to meet some deadlines, which made customers unhappy.

I cannot believe in this day and age that these toys are allowed to be sold. I have young children who are in my yard every day. What would happen if they ingested a piece of the toy? What is happening to our standards to our animals. Our dog is a part of our family! Just because he is an animal does not mean he should have a lesser standard os safety than a child on his toys! I am having to take him to work with me each day to care for him.

My dog has had bladder stones. He has had surgery by our veterinarian. She prescribed Royal Canin SO dog food. I have a legal and valid prescription for this. I called around and the Petsmart above said that they carried it. I got it off the Petsmart shelves, waited for twenty minutes at the checkout, and when I finally got up to the register, the checkout person said I had to get some kind of card at the Banfield Veterinary Clinic that is inside their store.

I was upset by this (the person I talked to on the phone said nothing about having to jump through hoops to buy dog food for which I had a legal prescription), but I went over to the Banfield counter. There was noone there. I asked to speak to the manager, who was Michelle. I pointed out that I had a legal prescription for this dog food and simply wanted to buy some for my sick dog. She said the Banfield clinic would open at noon (it was 11 AM) and I would have to wait until then. I tried to explain to her that I had a legal prescription.

She continued to insist that I had to see ANOTHER veterinarian at this Banfield clinic in order to get the dog food. I got increasingly angry. I told her that I had called ahead to see if Petsmart carried the food, had been told yes, but had been told nothing about this Banfield clinic or the need to see a totally different veterinarian. She sarcastically said that I was welcome to wait for an hour for the Banfield clinic to open. I cursed at her and walked out.

I did, in fact, return after noon, and had to wait 25 minutes at the Banfield clinic before I could speak to the desk person at the Banfield counter. She said I could have a one day pass to buy the dog food. I was over at the shelves putting the food into the shopping cart, when a man asked if he could help me. With gritted teeth, I said that I had been given the run around when I simply wanted to buy food for my dog. He said he was the store supervisor, and said that he would call the police on me because I had gotten angry with his manager and had expressed that anger. I asked why he had asked to HELP me, and he said it was because he thought that I was the customer he had heard about.

He also explained that Banfield rents space from Petsmart, that they are two different companies, and that the prescription dog food was in fact Banfield's. I then asked why I was told, then, that Petsmart carried the dog food, when in fact it is Banfield, a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COMPANY (according to him) that truly carries the dog food. He then claimed that, well, yes, Petsmart does carry the dog food. I told him that he can't have it both ways, either it's Banfield's stock and I was completely lied to on the phone, or it's Petsmart's, and Petsmart is likely practicing veterinary medicine without a license (although they MAKE you sign up with Banfield, and likely get some kind of kickback, in order to make the whole thing look legal).

In either event, there is something very fishy about this whole thing. Clearly, Michelle did not want to tell me about the true relationship between Petsmart and Banfield and the prescription dog food, since that would have at least partially appeased me (although it would also make me question the legality of the whole thing). It was only when the store supervisor wanted to intimidate me that he grudgingly explained that Banfield and Petsmart are supposedly two different companies.

Wasted time, wasted gas (not a small thing in this day and age), intimidation, threats.

We have purchased most of our pets' toys at Petsmart. However, this complaint relates to ALL pet toys which seem to All be made in China no matter where they are purchased. Our boston terrier kept throwing up and we finally narrowed it down to the toy squirrel we had purchased for her. After looking at the label and noting it was Made in China we then looked at all the other pet toys we've purchased. Every single one said Made in China.

Once we took the toy squirrel away from her toy box, she stopped throwing up. We tried giving it back to her and she started throwing up again. In light of the recent recalls with pet food, children's toys, etc. Made in China, we wondered how long it would take before pet toys from China would be on the recall list.

The recent story that came out in Consumer Affairs about pet toys from China purchased at Walmart containing lead and other toxins is the the 'tip of the iceberg.' It is likely that most pet toys from China contain things that are bad for our pets just as so many things from China are bad for humans. We have decided not to purchase any more pet toys made in China. We think everyone should pay more attention to this and refuse to purchase any pet toys that are made in China! Hopefully there will be more investigations and studies performed on pet toys Made In China.

Pet toys from China are harming and perhaps killing our pets. More studies and investigations into pet toys made in China should be performed and warnings should go out to the general public to beware!

We went into the store, looked around as usual, got our litter & Friskies Ocean Flavor cat food (big bag). I told the cashier I had a question. Her expression was she doesn't know answers. Anyways, price on middle pallet was $10.59, some flavors on shelves were $10.59, but the bottom with about 3 bags of Ocean Fish were marked $9.99. We picked it up there on the bottom.

We got to checkouts, I told her, she scanned it, rang up $10.59. If the price tag with name (Friskies Ocean Fish 18lb, everything the same) as the bag, shouldn't I have been able to get it for $9.99? Or is it just certain people who complain loud enough, etc? She didn't ask anyone to check on the price, she just wanted to keep on going. A manager or someone in charge should have helped, (she was only cashier) so if a question/complaint arises another cashier should be able to open up to help other people while we were being taken care of. Of course that didn't happen.

I was in the store to return dog food which apparently wasn't on the dog food recall list according to the cashier at Petsmart in Manalapan, NJ on March 21st. What eventually happened was the cashier tried to give me a hard time and then I eventually said to him I don't want any other food and I just want a full refund which I was given. Nutro Max is on the recall list but not the kind that I brought back. So I decided to check out Menu Foods.com website and found out that Petsmart isn't listed at all but has been in the news mentioned several times.

I really don't care if it is or isn't at this point because I think it is a disgrace that someone would continue to harm peoples dogs all over money. Also Menu Foods held back information for weeks and knew that something was wrong. Please get to the bottom of this soon so that we don't have to keep harming innocent animals so someone can get rich.

Also, regarding this recall, The Star-Ledger had published in the newspaper on March 24th an article that said Menu Foods was asking people to return any dog food no matter what dates or what brand of dog food it was. Also, Petsmart continues to sell and discount the foods that have been on the recall lists which I think is a disgrace. I have in my possession their advertisement for various dog food and discounts that they are granting to people this week. Where are these peoples brains or hearts at this point?

I took my daughter and pet dog to Petsmart for the Photos with Santa and was shocked to see that they had a woman dressed up as Santa. This is false advertising and misrepresentation and should be stopped.
