I purchased a purebred bengal kitten from a reputable show breeder who feeds Evangers at his cattery. He recommended the rabbit and buffalo formulas to me when I picked my baby up. He even sent a few cans home with me. I have to admit... I was impressed with the minimal ingredients, and the overall quality of the food. Most canned foods smell sooo bad... But Evangers has very little smell. To me, it simply smells like meat. Ive been feeding the rabbit formula 3x per day, with Blue Buffalo Indoor Freedom dry kitten food available to her 24/7. She LOVES her wet food, and is very vocal when its time to eat. She is the absolute picture of health! Soft, shiny coat, good weight, just a gorgeous kitty.

We have been feeding Evanger's Canned and Dry foods for many years. I would like to contribute our pets long lives to a mix of this food, canned and dry. We feed the Meat Lovers dry and a complete mix of canned foods for our dogs. The cat eats the Grain Free kibble, but at age 19, much prefers canned to kibble. Thank you for helping take care of our family of fur-kids!

My 9 year-old St. Bernard loves Evanger's canned pet foods. He has been eating it for over 8 years. Favorites are: Hunk of Beef, Salmon, Catch of the Day (Sardines), Duck and Sweet Potato, Chicken Thighs and Pork. He will not eat anything else, nor would I trust any brand other than Evanger's. His cinnamon coat is beautiful and he is exceptionally healthy for his age - I believe because he only eats Evanger's. Thank you for a high-quality pet food product!

I feed my two Labrador Retrievers (age 11 & 15) Evanger's canned food twice daily. They love the chunky chicken casserole and the hunk of beef varieties. My 15 year old dog's bloodworm and overall health is remarkable for a dog of his age. I have three cats, one of which is overweight. I feed them Evanger's pheasant kibble and different varieties of the against the grain cat food in both the tubs and the cans. My big guy has lost some weight and all three cats yell at me if I forget to give them their canned food before I feed the dogs in the evening. I'm grateful to have a pet food company that I can trust with the health of my animals and the proof is really in how much all five of them live and are thru I got on Evanger's foods. Great company. Wish there were more like them out there.

I've been using Evanger's Sweet Potato as a supplement with for my dogs' dinners. It has helped with digestion and trimmed a couple pounds off of both dogs. They love the taste and I love that the only ingredient is sweet potato. I tried finding a standard grocery store brand of sweet potato at first, thinking it would be cheaper, but grocery store sweet potato has tons of added sugar and other gross additives. As far as I know, Evanger's is the only brand who makes something like this. A household staple.

I took my lab into the vet because he was having dizziness spells. They diagnosed him with equilibrium vestibular issues. I was very scared because he wasn't eating at the vet so they thought it was something much more serious. They gave him a few different foods and he would not eat any of them. Eventually they brought out Evangers canned food and Porsche went NUTS for it. He gobbled it down, I was so happy! The vets told me that is their "secret food" they use when dogs refuse to eat. The photos attached were actually taken at the vet clinic when they gave him Evangers. I am so grateful to have found this food as it potentially saved my dog's life. I'm a big believer in the food now! And Porsche is home with me now and doing well.

But once a week we like to give him some wet food as a treat. I found EVANGER'S all natural beef to be just that. But now again for the 3rd time after feeding him this he began to vomit 3-x's within 2 hrs.

    Dear Debra,

We are sorry to hear about your experience! Often times if a dog is not used to meat-rich food and devours it quickly, voluntary regurgitation may happen as a result of stomach upset from overeating, which is common with a sudden diet change. As this particular food is 100% fresh beef, most likely this is what happened as your dog solely ate dry food with canned as a treat once per week. We recommend that any time you introduce a new food, limit the portions for easier digestion.

The average age for Golden's is 10-11 years, so we believe the Evanger's formulas have been instrumental in his longevity and have given him least digestive problems while also allowing for energy levels over and above most dogs his age!! I received 4 coupons for discount on future purchases. I am very happy with this variety of their can dog foods, I have also bought the rabbit. My dog, a Maltese, is very allergic to many foods: Fish mix, pork, sweet potatoes, eggs, flax, kelp, beef, chicken, berries. It is very hard to find a food, wet or dry without those foods. I have been using this food for about nine months. My dog lost about 40% of her hair from being on ID products. Once I changed to Evanger's, her fur is now back to normal, the way it was before she had a pancreas attack back in 2012.

We have reached out to you many times through email and phone as we take the safety of our foods very seriously, but have had no response. We tested the foods you used by a lab, and the test results came back as sterile for both samples, had a negative result for any growth, good pH levels and no swelling of the can. After speaking with your Vet, he indicated to us that the cause for your dogs' sickness was related to eating mushrooms. We hope the dogs are doing well, nevertheless.

They asked if he had gotten into anything. He hadn't left our property that entire day and we could find nothing that he got into. They said the exposure would have been shortly before becoming sick. The only thing we can figure is that it is related to the dog food. I had the vet collect blood samples and I have saved the remainder of the food in the can. $600 vet bill. Evanger's really has never worked for my dogs - from dry to canned; however they really like the Hi Bio semi moist this co. makes. Well, I bought a sm sized bag of the Hi Bio this past month, and as I was going to serve my dogs, I saw something shiny in the food, so I put it back on my table to examine what exactly it was. First of all, it was in the food - inside the actual piece of food - not around it, not mixed in the bag, no - it was actually processed inside the food (the piece of semi moist kibble). I began picking at the piece and I broke a li'l corner off on the food - I pulled out this unidentified object, which turned out to be a piece of a thin plastic bag like material - which was INSIDE THE ACTUAL PIECE OF FOOD!! This piece of thin plastic bag like material could have gone into my dogs stomach!!

I'm thankful that it didn't. I went thru the whole dish to see if there were anymore pieces of plastic - I indeed did find some more - I found about 7 pieces total in this sm size bag - all inside the actual pieces of food. Sizes range from small (not as noticeable) to large (very noticeable). I contacted Evanger's customer service via email about 1 week ago - nobody has replied - I left my email and my phone number - nothing. I raised awareness on dogfoodadvisor.com as they put out recalls - asking how to notify the FDA. They let me know how. That's my next plan of action since Evanger's doesn't seem to care about their dog consumers or else they would have replied back to me which they still haven't. (For ppl who feed their dogs this kind of Evanger's - I found it in the Chicken flavor. I've never bought the Hi Bio Beef so I'm not sure if these shards of plastic are in that food either).

I can't wrap my head around how shards of plastic could find their way into a dog food. Is it employee error or is plastic the secret ingredient to their food? I did take a picture of the largest shard I found - I hope it uploads. I outlined a box on orange paper and placed the shard on the inside of it for all to see. I was unable to return my product due to being more than halfway thru the bag when I discovered it.

We purchased a bag of Pheasant Dry Dog Food by Evanger's. I poured the bag into an airtight container, and at the bottom of the bag, there was a large chunk of mold (probably 2 inches x 2 inches x 1/2 inch or so). I tried emailing the company, but the email address on their website bounced back. So, I wrote on their Facebook wall, explaining what had happened and asking for proper contact info. I did this 3 times, because each time, Evanger's wrote back, and then deleted my comment before I was able to check Facebook and snag the email address.

When I finally explained to them that I'm a law student, I don't check Facebook every 5 minutes, and that they had to give me more than an hour to get the email address, they left it up for slightly longer. I emailed the address they gave me. No response. I waited a week, and then I contacted the USDA. The USDA filed a report and contacted Evanger's, and then Evanger's contacted me. At that point, they got really rude with me about not contacting them before I contacted the authorities (hello, I did try, many, many times).

Holly somewhat apologized, accused me of having somehow damaged the bag as the cause of the mold (what happened to "the customer is always right?") and then offered to send me a free bag of food. We'd already switched our dog to the original brand of dog food (immediately upon finding the mold), and we weren't terribly interested in another bag of Evanger's, but I told her that I appreciated the gesture and asked her to instead send it to the shelter I used to volunteer with. It's been 11 months, and they've never received the bag. Not surprising. In short, Evanger's is unresponsive, rude, and does not follow through. I was recently given a free can of dog food at a dog event I attended. I threw it away. I'd suggest you do the same.

I was sternly told that it "isn't the food causing the seizures" and that I "should work more closely with the vet to determine what is wrong with the dog". My complaint was completely brushed off. Of course, I will never buy Evanger's dog food again, but I'm concerned about all the other dogs still eating this food.

This is a complaint regarding Evangers Drummets canned dog food, code 2001e 02007 (best buy 2015). I gave my ten pound dog about a tablespoon of it, and four and half hours later my dog bolted up on my lap ataxic, breathing fast and with unresponsive eyes. It lasted about two minutes. Then, in a daze for about ten minutes I checked the food in the fridge, and I saw a gas bubble had formed on the plastic top. I am a registered nurse, and I believe she may have developed botulism poisoning. I checked the Internet, and I saw there has been problems (I kept can).

On Thanksgiving day, I opened a can of Evanger's chicken casserole and as the top came back it made a loud sound - like a mini explosion. The liquid in the can shot out.
I threw it away and proceeded to open another can of the chicken casserole and again it exploded and the liquid contents splattered on the wall and counter. That can was also tossed into the garbage.Neither of them looked or smelled bad. That same day I sent an e-mail to the company telling them what had happened and giving them the information (bar code & stamp #s) on the cans. It is now closing in on two weeks and I have not heard from the Evanger company. I am not aware of any dogs becoming ill-from their food lately but surely I couldn't have been the only one to purchase food from that lot.

In October 2008, the three dogs I have all got very ill within an hour of eating the Evangers Hunk of Beef. They could not stand up on their hind legs, if they tried they would fall over. I have a Border Collie, a Shepard/Hound mix and a Maltese. I rushed them to the vets for an emergency appt. We weren't sure what happened. The Maltese and mix were kept over night in the hospital. The next day they came home. The following day again after eating a different can of the Evangers Hunk of Beef the same thing happened again. This time the Maltese had to be put in an oxygen chamber for breathing problems. Luckily all my dogs seem to have recovered although I'm not sure if there are any permanent problems. Like everyone else, I also spoke with Joel Sher. He did send cans to the can company for testing, they did not find anything. He did agree to send a couple of unopened cans I have to have a sterility test performed. That also did not find anything. Although we can't figure out what is happening, I believe it has to be the dog food because of the details of my own experience but also because of what I have read from all of you. The timing and symptoms are all to close to each other and to the FDA press release. He has said that he is sure there is nothing wrong with their food but he has agreed to reimburse me for my medical bills. I do appreciate this because I have over $2000.00 in vet bills so far. I would encourage everyone to file a complaint with the FDA since they are the ones that regulate the pet food industry.

On November 19, 2008, I fed my two Pomeranians each 1/2 can of Evanger's Beef Chunks in Gravy canned dog food. Within 45 minutes they were both in critical condition with signs of complete neurological shutdown, blindness, inability to stand or walk, difficulty breathing and swallowing. They were transferred from Green Valley Animal Hospital in Ijamsville, MD where Dr. Ashley Hampton stabilized them enough and they were admitted to Greenbriar emergency hospital. They were treated by Dr. Tracey Rossi, DVM, ACVIM, who is responsible for saving their lives. They were given little if any chance of surviving the toxic poisoning. We took the can of dog food with us to both hospitals. Cinnamon was able to be released within 24 hours; Thunder remained in ICU for 2 more days. He suffered seizures on top of the toxic poisoning. He was released and readmitted twice. He is still under the care of Dr. Hampton, to this very day. He remains of 4 of the original 7 medications. He has some brain damage and will never be the same dog, but we are blessed and thankful that he is alive. Both dogs were treated for symptoms of botulism and the food was to be sent out for testing through Greenbriar Emergency Hospital.
When I called the office number listed on Evanger's Web site on November 19th, I was hung up on. When Dr. Rossi called Evanger's on November 20th, she was told by the person who answered that they would not speak another word to her because she could not prove she even was a vet. After more than 10 emails and 6 calls, Mr. Sher finally called me at work on November 28, 2008. He spoke for 34 minutes about how any issue involving their dog food was always because of some irresponsible action of the consumer. He blew off the FDA notice saying it was only because they logged the date change at shift change at 6:00AM instead of 12:01 AM. He took no responsibility and worst of all, never even offered any comments or concerns about my dogs. He said that he would notify his insurance company and decide what to do. I have never heard back from him and he has not responded to any additional emails: 4 of them since we spoke. Right now I have $5074.83 in vet bills, one dog is still under are and has irreversible neurological damage. All from one can of dog food!. MY stress level is off the charts, I have to cancel a trip to New York to stay home and keep a watchful eye on Thunder for seizures and dispense 7 medications. The heartless manner in how this is being handles by Joel and Holly Sher makes me sick. I now what to hire and attorney. Instead of handling this as a responsible caring animal lover and business owner, he choose to ignore this. How many other dogs may become victims of toxic poisoning from his food.

On Wednesday, Nov 19, 2008, my two 10-lb Pomeranians split a can of Evangers beef chunks. Within half an hour, I was rushing to the vet. My dogs were unable to stand, hold up their heads, and they were blind. The vet stabilized them enough to allow me to then drive to the emergency animal clinic, where they were hooked to IVs, and my little guy even had his stomach pumped. My little girl came home about 48 hours later, my little guy came home on Saturday. He is still extremely weak and lethargic, and, now he has seizures, which started in the hospital. He is on a wide variety of meds, and he is still not out of the woods. Because of having an endo-tracheal tube, he now has a collapsed trach. The food can is being sent to the University of MD's toxicology department for testing. So, all I can say now is, people, connect the dots yourself; my dogs are fine, they eat food, half an hour later, they are blind and paralyzed; BOTH of them at the SAME time!!!

After learning that Evanger's has no interest in testing the can of food that Joel their Vice President requested I return to them specifically for testing, and being accused of many things that are not true, I told them I would be sending back the canned food I have at home that has not been used or opened.

I was sent an email from their office manager, Cyntha, that kept accusing me of things that are not true. Cynthia also told me in her email message that my dog was experiencing renal failure!!!!! WOW to be able to diagnose a dog over the internet without seeing any of their blood work or other testing is amazing! I am so impressed - NOT! I replied to her that her statement was not true and the other statements accusing me of my dog having this condition for a few years is also not true and their accusation that my dog has been on Science Diet A/D for a long time is also not true. At no time was my dog ever on that food. She is on over the counter Science Diet for Sensitive Stomach since the end of March.

I asked Cynthia a couple of questions, since they will not share the Vice President's email address with me and she now is, I guess, too scared to answer me because she is just ignoring my questions. I do not recomment this band of dog food to anyone and I sincerely hope that anyone who talks or messages them is prepared to be treated rudely and without concern. I had a horrible experience with them and since Joel and his wife are the new oweners all we dog owners can do is stick together and pray all of our dogs get better without any help from Evangers. I will be testing my food. I will be happy to share all of my experiences with anyone who wishes to contact me.

I had a problem last year with Evangers dog food making 1 of my dogs very ill & 4 others less so. After trying to get answers from them for 3 months,I gave up & had the food tested myself. These results are online. Recently the co had a different problem with the FDA & an employee was on a forum I belong to. He encouraged me to contact them again. I did so & the phone call was very unpleasant & rude. They did however send me a refund for my food order.

This employee was online again & suggested[without names] that the reason I had no contact last year was that I tried to extort money from them.I have copies of all my order, test & refund papers. I can get copies of my phone bills showing my calls to them,I do not have the emails from last year. When I asked that they specify online whether or not they were talking about me they gave a round about answer which did not exclude me. They also had on their website a statement denying the emergency operating order from the FDA. It was removed today from their site, but I have a copy of it. I have also printed out a copy of their online accusations in case they delete them. I would like to see something done about the fact that they are printing lies about me online and that there are false statements on their website. The details are too long to post here.

I was left with vet bills, testing problems and a very sick dog with no explanation. Now I have my name and reputation being attacked online.

Well everyone, I sent Evanger's an email to see what the status of my food is and had to send the message twice only to learn it has been sitting on Joel's desk for a week! He is sure that nothing is wrong with it so has not sent it in for testing. He said he thought I would send in my own can for testing. What's wrong with this picture?

Anyway, my opinion is that he didn't care enough after telling me to send in the can to him to actually have the tests done and now he is blaming me for not doing it. I won't be buying Evanger's again and I have 13 more cans at home. I have messaged the office manager to let her know I am returning them for reimbursement. We'll see how long it takes for a response!

I have posted below. I spoke at great length to Joel, the Vice President. He assures me there is nothing wrong with the Canned Chicken. However, he did agree to have my specific food tested. I have sent the food and I know it has been received because I have the acknowledgement from the postal service. I messaged the Office Manager, Cynthia the day the food was received but have had no reply....yet again I know she got my message because I did a return receipt on it. I'm just waiting to see if I ever hear from them again as since the phone call I don't get any replies. I think it's horrible that there is no response from a what is considered a reputable company. We as consumers are concerned about out pets.... guess they aren't!

To date, to find out what is wrong with my dog, I have spent over $1,000.00 in vet bills.

It is NECESSARY that I notify that the Necropsy on my dog with the diagnosis has been received and reads as follows: Diagnosis: This animal has a disseminated round cell neoplasm. This finding is the most significant and the likely cause of the animal's death. There is also severe gastrointestinal hemorrhage that is probably secondary to the neoplastic change.

On 2-20-08 I e-mailed Evanger's Dog Food with a request to clarify what I was finding in their cans of Cooked Chicken food for dogs. I purchase the 13oz. cans of cooked chicken in the flats of 24 cans per flat. We started finding large chunks of something in the cans which, at times, took up at least half the can. Those time we pitched the cans of food. After this happened several times I saved out some of the chunks of 'whatever', refrigerated them noting the lot number of that particular can. We took photos of the foreign matter alongside of a tape measure and wrote an e-mail to Evanger's Dog Food at the above e-mail address, including the pictures of the foreign matter. About this same time we also encountered chunks of gristle in the cans. When we manipulated the gristle we were able to break those pieces apart until they disintegrated. The other material we could not break apart. I asked them what these chunks were but to date we have not had a response from them. I would like to know what is going on with this product. I can supply you with copies of the e-mails and also copies of the photo sent to Evanger's.

The cans that contained the foreign matter were tossed. There were about 6 or 7 cans involved before I stopped using the Evanger's product. Because of their lack of response to my inquiry I felt they had something to hide. I made one more effort to enlist the help of The Whole Dog Journal since they have continually recommended the Evanger's product. I mistakenly hoped they could find out what on earth was going on with the Evanger's product but they, like Evanger's, have ignored my inquiry.
