Travelers who buy travel insurance should be cautious when considering Travel Guard. Following a seven-month planning period for our Alaskan trip, a pipeline rupture at our base camp led to its closure just three days before our departure. Although this would seem like a legitimate reason for a claim, Travel Guard rejected our request, attributing the issue to maintenance. This decision is questionable given that the entire property was shut down and all reservations were canceled. In contrast, Allianz, which covered another part of our trip, processed our claim quickly and fairly. Travel Guard's handling of our claim has been disappointing, and we will not be using their services in the future.

Complete scam - they will do anything in their power to not honour your insurance and you will never get any Money back. Do not ever purchase their insurance plan.

This is a terrible company to do business with. Don't work with this untrustworthy company; they will take your money and do nothing to help you. My husband passed away, and they gave me a voucher instead of a refund, even though I am 80 years old and in need. I told them I am not planning to take any more trips.

I purchased an airline ticket on Breeze Airways for my elderly father to come visit. He became ill, so I had to reschedule it. Lost the amount of the ticket because I didn't buy an upgraded ticket or travel insurance. This time I bought the travel insurance. Right before the trip he threw his back out, and certainly could not be sitting on a plane in a confined space for hours. Because he didn't have the money to see a doctor, about a condition that will heal with time and there really is no treatment anyway, my claim was denied. So ticket money lost again. Apparently, if you do not go to the doctor, even if you are injured or ill with a contagious virus, they think you should fly anyway. This was a waste of money.

I used Travel Guard Ins for a trip to Croatia for a Ski bike race so if my sports equipment didn't make it I would be covered for lost or delayed luggage. My equipment never made it and I had added expenses for equipment rentals which I filed a claim for. Both United and Austrian air claimed it was the other's fault. At first my claim was totally denied and my second attempt they reimbursed me for the cost of the insurance instead of paying my claim. Buying this insurance was a waste of money.

Had to cancel Hotel because would of had to drive thru a Winter Storm Warning / Blizzard. Travel Guard said, "Not our problem." Denied Claim. They are a complete scam and the 1 star rating shows. Stay away and save your money. Other choices.

If you are a senior citizen and use Travelocity and Expedia stay well away from this company. They will make you age in a hurry!. For a simple flight cancellation/car rental claim, every two weeks they will ask you to provide some document. They never ask you in one shot what documents they need but they ask you in dribs and drabs with increasing the difficulty in obtaining such documents and then stretch the process for about three months. Then they say oh sorry!.. that particular flight cancellation due to airline's staff issues is not their problem.... blah blah.... and then deny your claim. Pity that companies like Travelocity and Expedia trusted by senior citizens work with such a dubious travel insurance company when good honest ones are out there.

Bought the insurance thinking I was covered. Not so much. Wish I read the reviews before purchasing from this company. Remember the name Travel Guard as I will be on what to avoid going forward. Thank you.

My experience with them has been extremely FRUSTRATING! Travel dates, Jan 25-26 of this year. We had so much snow during those days that I couldn't move my car at all. I reached out to them several times, and each time they requested additional documents. They say that whatever documents I've submitted don't prove "Inclement Weather." The only reason I purchased from them was that Expedia recommended them—clearly, no plans on their end to reimburse me.

Do not waste your money on this travel insurance. You have to die to collect. It is a scam. They drag you on for weeks and months and never pay the claim. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER INSURANCE COMPANIES FOR TRAVEL THAN TRAVEL GUARD.

Unless you lose a limb or die, you will not be covered and they will fight you. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS INSURANCE. IT IS A SCAM. I had a work requirement, I submitted all required docs and was told they will cover. I made a complaint and again submitted all required docs. They called me directly, and very rudely denied my claim with no offered recourse. Very frustrating.

Odd, I purchased because United, said it reimburses missed flights, but the insurance policy actually says: What Is Not Covered General "Missing the Flight": There is no coverage for missing a flight due to personal reasons not listed as an "unforeseen event," such as oversleeping or getting stuck in standard security lines.

I’ve had an extremely frustrating experience dealing with claims adjuster Nathan **. What should have been a simple claim has now dragged on for over three months, all over a $100 reimbursement for a trip delay caused by a scheduled transfer driver who never showed up. Instead of resolving the issue reasonably, Nathan ** has repeatedly delayed the process and is now essentially giving me an ultimatum to provide paperwork that I have already explained I cannot obtain. The incident happened in Mexico, and the transportation company has refused to provide the documentation he is demanding, despite my efforts to request it multiple times.
At some point, common sense and basic customer service should apply. The situation was straightforward: the driver did not show up, I had to pay for a taxi to get to my hotel, and I submitted the receipt. Spending three months chasing a $100 claim and being told to produce documents that are impossible to obtain is unreasonable and feels like a tactic to avoid paying legitimate claims. This experience has been unnecessarily difficult and disappointing. I expected a much more professional and practical approach to resolving such a small and straightforward claim.

I have a trip booked to Puerto Vallarta for my family including kids 7 and 9. Listed on the Canadian Travel Advisory website it says: " Mexico - Exercise a high degree of caution. Exercise a high degree of caution in Mexico due to high levels of criminal activity and kidnapping." KIDNAPPING!!!! My claim is denied because travel to Mexico isn't banned by the Canadian Government. Do not buy travel insurance from Travel Guard, it's just a scam.

Travel guard is a big rip off. I purchased insurance from them, and I had an illness in the family and couldn’t make my flight. I canceled my flight with the airline. Their customer service was horrible, and treated me with no respect. I couldn’t afford to go to a medical facility, so we self medicated. That wasn’t good enough for them, so they denied my claim. We played email tag back and forth for weeks, and finally the denied my claim. Anyone that buys insurance for their flight, I suggest you don’t use Travel Guard.

Waste of money. My son was not able to travel because he got sick. Submitted the claim and all documents including form filled by my son's doctor. The claim wasn't processed because the doctor used a white corrector at one place in the form. The doctors are busy, it took her two weeks to fill the forms on the first place, and I don't even feel like bothering her again with non medical questions. Called the Travel Guard company and they said I am not eligible to speak to them because my son turned 19 and is not minor anymore (even I bought both the insurance and the tickets and trying to reimburse my money). Very frustrating experience. Will never buy it again. There are also over 6000 reviews on Travel Guard website, but no option to leave a review - how is that?

As I purchased this through Hotels.com, which was no help at all either, it was for just in case. As received my confirmation I realized I had put the wrong dates. Immediately called Hotels.com to change the dates and the denial of help was instant! I was told to file a claim through Travel Guard insurance, which I purchased, to get a refund. Absolutely horrendous service! I was denied a refund because they still considered it a “cancellation“. Would have been better off booking through the hotel as I was told they could have accommodated me. Since I went through Hotels.com and used their insurance, their hands were tied. Unbelievable!!

Avoid the AIG Travel Guard insurance offered when you book a trip through Expedia. I had to re-book a trip (essentially the same trip) and AIG refused to apply any part of my premium - which paid for much more than trip cancellation, such as airlifting and medical - to my new trip because I rebooked outside of the 15-day window and Expedia gave me a new itinerary number. In other words, even though I paid my own re-booking fee, AIG kept all of my money, including what I paid for medical coverage while abroad, simply because Expedia gave me a new itinerary number. Its attitude was, essentially: too bad so sad, we’re keeping the money and you don’t get ANY of what you paid for. $681.00 gone. So I’d avoid this company/coverage like the plague and seek coverage elsewhere.

Their claims department has no consideration for a person that's undergoing a life and death situation in the air during the flight I was in. They are a travel insurance that do not honor a trip cancelation due to a medical emergency from one of the passengers for the flight I was in. They declined the claim that it is not part of the travel insurance because I was not the one who had a medical emergency. This is just basic common sense. It was an airline initiated emergency due to a passenger seeking immediate medical attention that needed an emergency hospital care due to heart attack.

It’s been a month now since my legitimate claim was started, all paperwork was provided, no communication from them. When I call to check on it, they tell me that it’s still being reviewed and nothing is needed at this time. I cannot get in touch with the assigned claim rep, just customer service phone answers. If you see this, save your money!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! If you can’t make your flight due to a family member being sick or injured, that person will have to sign a medical release form for your claim to be considered. Wildly inappropriate and an invasion of privacy.

We purchased Travel Guard insurance. Our flight was significantly delayed and we missed our connection. There were no more flights out and we had to stay overnight. After submitting documentation and receipts, Travel Guard denied our claim 100% and closed the claim. I would not purchase insurance from Travel Guard again.

I had a good experience with Travel Guard overall. The coverage options were easy to understand, and purchasing the policy was straightforward. I had to contact customer support with a question, and they were helpful and clear. The claims process took some time, which was a bit frustrating, but everything was handled fairly in the end. I’d use them again for peace of mind when traveling.

I never write reviews. My experience with Travel Guard was so bad, I hope I can help someone else to not waste their money. They delay for weeks. You basically need to be the victim of a terrorist attack to get reimbursed. Read the fine print!!

Travel Guard and AIG insurance is not worth it and I would advise never to purchase this travel insurance. I have a legitimate claim and have had to send the same information to a very rude and difficult claim agent. The agent despite having all information focused on and was only interested not in the facts but rather for finding ways to deny claims without reading, regarding or considering the facts and documentation submitted, which could easily be verified.
This company and its travelers insurance lacks of customer care, consideration, attention to detail and maintains a "profit" only approach. Even when a claim is legitimate they work every possible way to deny it. The assigned claims case adjuster or processer is not able to be reached despite providing a contact phone number. None of the AIG or Travel Guard phone numbers work, or if you do get someone, they can't help you with your case, complaint or concern, as they simply say they are not the adjuster and can only pass information. The hide behind emails, bogus contact numbers and foreign call centers staffed with people who don't speak or understand English very well which is a cowards way out of facing the failures of their scam insurance. I now see what AIG travel insurance is all about!!!!
This was my first experience with using travel insurance and it will definitely be my last. It's not about the money, I could careless if AIG and Travel Guard ever pay the claim, its about integrity, customer service, and heart, all of which AIG and Travel Guard have none!!! Lastly, the irony is I filed the original claim in August-September 2025, I just received an email from them in January 2026, now acknowledging my original submission and claim was legitimate and correct, and now they've asked me to start the claim process all over again. Really!!! AIG and Travel Guard has no leadership, management, or customer service and claim quality assurance oversight. They deliberately make it difficult or impossible to speak with a supervisor or manager and definitely are not interested in your concern or problem. Take my advise and buyer beware, DON'T purchase AIG and Travel Guard insurance, if you have a claim you will regret it!!!

Unless you are dead or dying they make it pretty much impossible to get any of your money back. They said in the policy that I would be refunded in the case of cancelation for work. A work thing came up that I had to cancel for but when I submitted for my refund they said that i needed written documentation requesting time off from work, another one with written approval for time off, and a final written notice requesting I work during that time. They bounced me back and forth between different departments. And then denied my claim.

My husband planned a mountaineering trip and we purchased a policy with Travel Guard. The trip was cancelled due to extremely high avalanche danger which made the climb impossible. Although we sent all the requested documentation from the mountain guiding company, our claim was denied. Since the airline gave us a reusable credit and the guiding company refunded the total cost, we were claiming only a small amount--the cost of the condo (which was non-refundable). We were informed that our claim was 100% denied because our flight was not cancelled. Buyer beware!!

I highly would not recommend this company. We had to cancel our trip and they’re refusing to refund our money because we don’t believe in going to doctors. All natural care, I would not recommend it at all. You try to get a hold of the CEO of the company and he will not return your call. They tell you they called you back and they do not call you back.

Scamming people on the name of insurance. I booked 2 day hotel stays. I had to cancel my stay because my wife is pregnant and she wasn’t feeling well that day. I canceled the stay and asked for travel guard insurance to cover it so i can get my $500 refund. I got the response that unless I present them a medical proof from hospital that my wife wasn’t feeling good that day, then only i can get refund. So my question is why they didn’t state these type of requirements before I purchased the insurance.
