My boyfriend got hit by a person who has Kemper as their insurance company. So they had him download an app to take pictures. Then had his car towed to the Benz Shop just for them to give him the run around for 4 months so they didnt have to pay for fix his car. They only paying to get paint job done. I wouldnt recommend anyone to them if they was the only insurance company left on this planet.

Dealing with customer service to change the name on my account has been a nightmare. It's extremely disorganized. I'm unable to log into my account for no apparent reason and am forced to use the "EZ PAY" feature which means I don't get to view any of my account specifics. I was referred to Kemper when I purchased my car but will NOT be using them after this initial six month period ends. Save yourself the trouble.

This company has been nothing but a headache from the very beginning. I was involved in a vehicle accident in which the at fault driver is a Kemper client. I made my very 1st call to Kemper 9/13/19. It is now 10/18/19. So here I am 35 days later and still have not reached a conclusion with this company. I was assigned to an adjuster (Mashawna **) rather quickly, however once I was place with her I was unable to reach her. I would leave mssg after mssg just to not get a return call.
After 2 1/2 weeks of the message game and having to call customer service just to get answers, I was told that they had incorrect notes and my claim was in the segregation dept. On October 2nd I was told that my claim process would start from that day. It took me contacting supervisors, and plain old customer service just to get any type of answer regarding my "claim" just to get passed back to Mashawna (who does not answer calls). I was given 3 to 4 different names of people to contact and NOTHING was accomplished.
I am now dealing with Brittany **, who is a total loss adjuster, and have played nothing but the message game with her as well. I leave message after message and never receive a call back. Same with her supervisor, Jordan **. Nobody at this company seems to know how to use a phone. This is a VERY summarized description of my experience with this company.... DO NOT USE THEM!!!! And I pray for every American that they are never in an accident with someone who is covered by this company.

It’s now Oct 17, 2019 Donald ** is my adjuster and has been giving me the round about. Every time I call him, he never answers. I leave him voicemails and never return my calls!! I’ve tried to talked to his supervisor and he has never called me back as well!! Avoid this company and their headaches. On 9/17/19 I got a flat tire on the side of the highway around 9p.m. I was unable to get the lug nuts off to change the tire myself. So, I called roadside and was assured they would send a tow truck right away as well as the police to block off the lane as it was on a bend and we weren't visible until you were right up on us. After 3 hours of Kemper telling us police and tow truck were on the way, I demanded to speak to a supervisor.
I spoke to supervisor Moses and was told "I guess nobody feels like changing a tire" and that roadside would not be coming. We had no other choice but to leave the car on the side of the highway, get a hotel and wait until morning to see if someone felt like changing a tire then. The next morning we called roadside again, were hung up on 2 different times and it took over an hour before they dispatched a tow truck driver. I have tried to get in touch with customer service since then and no one will call me back. I spoke to my insurance broker, Mike ** staff to have them follow-up with customer service as I had devoted enough time to this matter without results and, after multiple phone calls as well as an email, no one from his office will return my calls/email. I am still in shock that Kemper’s roadside gets to pick and choose when they help their customers who are stranded on the side of the highway in the middle of the night.

I carried Kemper for just over a year, full coverage on my vehicle. When I had to submit a claim after a car collided into my car (other vehicle was at fault) I ran into trouble. That was when I found out my policy did not cover towing even though I always carry towing coverage, but it took me an hour and a half on the phone to find out I was not covered. 45 minutes to submit my claim then I find out the person I submitted my flareon to wasn't even qualified to tell me my coverage because "a licensed agent" was not available at 7pm. He transferred me to the department that sets up towing (even though I asked right away for a tow truck) after taking my claim for 45 minutes. They were unable to dispatch a tow truck because my agent did not put a towing rider on my policy. The towing department took another 30 minutes to figure out I was not covered.
I received an email of my claim representative's contact information and called the next day and followed up by sending an email. Over the next 2 1/2 weeks I continued to attempt to contact the claim agent without success. I had already received a quote from the body shop estimating repairs that likely exceeded the value of my car. I assured the wie got to my assigned claims agent who was not calling me back.
When I finally reached my claims agent, she informed me my claim was with a different agent who was to do a validation on my vehicle, arrange for my car to be picked up from the body shop as my car's damage exceeded its value. A month and 1 1/2 weeks went by before a value was made on my car and documentation was sent to my lender to settle my loan, they sent me a check for $37. And here I am still without a car but at least I was able to buy another car. The other insurance company accepted responsibility for the accident, so I was still out my $500 deductible.
Fast forward to 2 months and 3 weeks after my accident, after Kemper had switched me 3 times for claims agents, no deductible being paid out to me... I finally contact a supervisor who says, "Well we received some money from the other insurance company but your claim is still in the subrogation department," and gives me another agent to call. When I speak to her, she informs me no money was received by kemper so she needs to follow up with the other company to see why 6 weeks has gone by since kemper sent the demand for payment. She asked for "a couple days" to get a reply.
4 days later I call her back (after I had just gotten off the phone with the other insurance company) to get my update. She said she hasn't gotten a reply and would need to email them again. I told her I just talked to them, where they informed me (today September 20th) they had sent payment to Kemper on August 5th. My accident was June 24! As of September 20th, the subrogation agent said she is having a check issued to me for my deductible.
I have never received such poor service following an accident, lack of return calls or emails, and general disconcern from an insurance company regarding an accident claim. I will never do business with this company again! All they care about is their own financial bottom line. There is no reason god enough where a policyholder should have to fight so hard to work their way through a claim after a car accident! I am fortunate that the only loss involved was the vehicle and not my health. Avoid this company at all costs if you value service.

I had a auto policy with them. I send a check paid in full for six months on auto, then next day I receive a bill for the auto. On the bill it say, “If we send you a bill there is a $8.00 dollar fee.” (Never asked them to send one.) So I contacted my Insurance guy and told him to cancel this policy after the six months, so six months later I get a new bill for the next six months. I did not pay it (because I canceled it). (If you don't pay they just cancel your policy, RIGHT?) So next month I get a bill for $41.23 so I called them. The guy tells me there is a $20.00 dollar late fee for not paying. I told him I canceled it, then when I paid the last bill they took the $8.00 dollars out for their fee, and claim that payment was short, then added a $13.23 fee for being short. So now I received a bill from the collection agent.
So I called them and told them what happen (these people are bought and paid for by KEMPER. CROOKS. He tells me they will take the $8.00 fee off leaving me with $33.23. Now if I don't pay it it will go on my credit lowering my credit score, meaning that when you buy insurance they look at your credit score, what a great way to squeeze more money out of you, this is CORRUPT! I will never buy insurance from these crooks!!

Once I was finally able to get in touch with the claims department, the headache began. I was assigned to Sharon **. Every time I called to speak to Sharon I had to leave a message. Maybe she would call me back same day. After a couple days I was told to download an app on my phone & submit pictures. After another few days I finally received a check in the mail for half of the estimated amount. The body shop had my car for a week before an estimator came out. The body shop was given the go-ahead to do what was needed. My car was completely repaired by the following Friday. It took Sharon 2 weeks to get the check to the body shop!! I had full coverage on my Corvette from Kemper, which was supposed to protect my car with its rather large monetary investment. Full coverage means it is fully protected, at least that's what Kemper promised. However, after a relatively minor slide off the road, they used every excuse possible to avoid paying for my damage, which was; one rear wheel, one rear tire, one rear hub and a few areas of scratches from flying debris. First, they tried to say the wheel wasn't damaged (it had a chunk missing); then "the tire was ok," they said; then the scratches looked like, "normal wear and tear." I finally gave up and paid for the repairs myself.
Eventually, after three months, they paid for everything (a "reconditioned" wheel) except the scratches. Sorry excuse for a company, worse than Geico, and I used to think it wasn't possible to be worse than them. I cancelled my policy with Kemper (all three vehicles) and went to a company with a much better rating. If all you need is an insurance policy that satisfies the DMV, Kemper will work. But if you anticipate ever actually filing a claim, go elsewhere.

Kemper started working on my claim about a month ago and they concluded that my vehicle was total loss after two weeks of waiting. I was hopeful that this process would take about a week to get a check issued to my Lien holder so I could complete my GAP insurance claim. It’s been over 30 days since my accident and my bank has yet to receive a check. This has put a complete halt to me purchasing a new vehicle. My adjusted kept reassuring me that the check has been mailed with 2-day expedited shipping, it’s been four business days since and my check still has not been received. In my past insurance experiences with a similar situation has never been this lengthy. I cannot purchase a new car till my bank gets this check. I have never been more disappointed in an insurance company when I pay them monthly.

I had Kemper Insurance for many many years, for whatever reason, never checked/verified if I had a good, reasonable rate. A year after I sold my home in 2017, I realized that they have been still doing automatic withdrawal on my account. After months and months, back and forth with Stromsoe Agency and Kemper main office, I was going to be issued a refund on Feb 2019, but instead they managed to put all the monies directly to my car insurance, which the rate skyrocketed to almost double for them not to return any refund! I automatically cancelled Kemper Insurance and saved almost $2000 on car insurance with another reputable company! BE VERY AWARE WITH KEMPER! UNTRUSTWORTHY COMPANY.

We had an accident March 22 and filed a claim with Kemper. An uninsured driver was driving a car that was insured by Kemper and was at fault (that's what the police officer told us) yet, we come to find out, they will not be taking responsibility. We received one call in reference to the incident. When you call about your claim it asks you to enter your adjuster’s extension. When you do, the voicemail tells you she will be notified you called. Well, I've done that several times and did not receive a callback. I called a few times and held on the line for another adjuster which never came on the line. I called back and hit the button to file a new claim. They answered right away so I told them I needed to know the status of my claim.
They brought it up and placed me on hold, lo and behold, Yolanda was on the line. Well, she was no help at all. She informed me that they were not responsible and would not be paying. Well, I need something in writing stating that, so the deductible I have to pay through my insurance is lowered. I was told they are still waiting for information to be updated in their system and have no time frame of when it will happen. 21 days have gone by and they still haven't updated their system? This is very bad customer service. I hope people read all these reviews before getting insured by Kemper, and hope that no one gets hit by someone insured by Kemper because you will be out of luck.

I had Kemper car insurance for about two months. When the car that I bought stopped working I called him to cancel the policy. 30 days prior to me canceling my coverage my mother was nice enough to help me with the payment that month. She gave them her checking account numbers and they withdrew the payment for that month. She only gave information for one month. However, months later my mother noticed a charge I have checking account. Every month there was a withdrawal $107. She did not know where this money was going.
Upon investigating, she realized that Kemper have been withdrawing payments for my car insurance policy that I had canceled 7 months ago. So do the math, 7 months X $107!!!! They have been ripping lost my poor senior citizen mother. All my mother gets is a social security check every month. She has her own car payments and car insurance to pay for. She was merely trying to help me out for one month after I bought my vehicle. When I cancel the policy they charged me $50. I paid the $50!!! Yet somehow my mother where is paying $107 every month for the past 7 months. This is the kicker... After all is said and done, after I went crazy on them and make sure they cancelled my policy. Guess what happened again this month? They took the $107 again. Help me please!!!

I then emailed them and ask for reply or call back and nothing. Finally, got reply back stating they can't reimburse me sue to disablement. The rep didn't explain what that means. But I had car towed to mechanic who voiced he can't fix since my engine was out. The next day I had it towed back to my house. I have towing up to $100. So why didn't I get reimbursed? These were 2 different days and I'm not a mechanic... Of course if my engine is out. I will need a tow back. I paid the first tow and was waiting for reimbursement check like they said I would get and never got anything.

In November 2018, I returned via snail mail my policy renewal notice, that was set to go into effect in January 2019. I wrote to cancel my policy as soon as possible (as I had secured cheaper coverage elsewhere), and to not renew my policy. I signed my handwritten statement. I received a call in December stating since I did not specify an exact date, my coverage would continue and my checking account would continue to be debited. I was told I could email my request and was provided an email address. I emailed the company on January 3, stating to cancel and not renew my account as previously requested, and included the date January 3.
On January 21, I received a call that because my email contained a typed signature and not an actual signature, my policy was still in effect. I asked if the agent could use my signature on the snail mail request from November on the January email, and I was told no. I received snail mail today, January 22, notifying me my policy would be cancelled due to non-payment (I notified my bank in December I was not renewing this policy and to stop debits) and that if payments were not made timely, I would be reported to the credit bureaus. I have never filed a claim with Kemper, so I cannot attest to their claim service, but their business practices are reprehensible. I honestly have no words for this insurance company. My car was involved in a hit and run a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately I was nowhere near my car so I don't have any explanations other than my new car is ruined: the wheel flare was off, my back bumper is damaged, the left rear side on the top to my jeep has gashes in it and a scratch along the back window, a dent in the passenger door, and my mirror was shattered and hanging. All of the damages consistent along the driver left side. I filed my claim online right away and did not hear back from anyone.
I had to call in order to start the process and unfortunately this went on as a collision report, I was originally told an appraiser was going to take a look at my car, however I did choose an auto body shop that works with Kemper so I was told the appraiser was not necessary. The shop made the estimate and submitted it. The woman that reviewed the estimate told the shop to separate certain damages because by the looks of the pictures the gashes on the top rear side of my jeep were previous damages and that current damages were not consistent. Myself and the shop tried calling the representative handling my claim several times to say that the damages were consistent and that that was a misunderstanding and that someone needed to look in person at my car.
After a week, I finally heard back from the representative Anne, and she told me and the manager of the shop that an appraiser will be coming out to look at my car, she also informed me this was the auto body shop's fault, that they submitted two different estimates (which was not true, they were told to). Another week goes by and nothing, I have left several messages within that week.
I finally get a hold of another representative that gives me the number of the appraiser. I called on a Friday, no response. I called again on Monday, she answers however, she is in New York. She informs me she is not looking at my car, just getting another statement. I was incredibly frustrated at this point yet, I cooperated and was incredibly nice and patient. I called Anne shortly after and she informed me she gave this case to her supervisor to look at and that she will call later that day. I never got a call, I called the next morning on Tuesday. She said her supervisor gave it to HER supervisor and they will be in touch.
I got a call later Tuesday evening that they are not covering all damages being they are inconsistent. They told me to get coverage for the gashes on the top rear left of my jeep I would have to submit ANOTHER collision report since the gashes in it could not have been from a car, possibly from ski racks, etc... I was so angry and I said "but we don't know exactly how it was hit or what kind of car it was or anything, I wasn't there, it could have been anything, and it was all at the same time!" I was told in return, "yeah, it doesn't matter. My supervisor has been doing this a long time and the car couldn't have done that so it was something else"... THAT WAS THE RESPONSE I GOT!!! This process has taken 3 weeks and I have gotten nowhere.
I would have to pay my deductible $1000 to get some damages covered and report ANOTHER collision report for the same incident. I am so disgusted by this company, I was treated like a liar and a criminal this entire process. I have submitted a complaint to the CA department of insurance. My advice to anyone searching for cheap insurance, DO NOT USE KEMPER!!! Unethical, fraudulent, and dishonest.

I was hit by a driver insured by Kemper— 100% the other driver's fault, and he admitted it. What should be a smooth and straightforward experience has been a nightmare because of Kemper's inability/unwillingness to deal with the situation. After four phone calls and as many emails, I had to wait nearly a month before my messages were returned by Kemper, and this is after my insurance company threatened to call the adjuster's supervisor (The adjuster at Kemper also gave me incorrect contact info, so I had to research it myself to track her down).
Then, after the repairs were assessed, they never called me to let me know— which was their responsibility— resulting in further delays. I'm still not out of the woods yet, as the repairs have not been done. And I'm dreading there being a situation in which I again have to rely on communication from Kemper. If that happens again, I know now that I'll have to be the one calling and emailing and threatening in order to get them to do their part. Absolutely dreadful, terrible company.

I was hit by a driver who ran a red light. My car was deemed a total loss. After weeks of multiple phone calls/emails with no response, I finally received an email from the total loss adjuster as well and a settlement offer. The offer was a JOKE... I called to discuss this with the adjuster...and ask why such the lowball on and upgraded 2015 car? The response was based on current value. I pulled over 20 comps of the car that were well over the amount we were offered, which did not even come close to covering what is owed on the car.
I asked them to extend the rental (my only means to get to work) while we submit a rebuttal to fight the lowball over they gave us, they said absolutely not! This accident was not even my fault...and I feel as if I am being punished for something I could not have prevented! We have our home and auto bundled with this company. Once this is all over...they will lose our business 100%! We pay $500 a month and get treated like nobodies. HORRIBLE. JUST HORRIBLE.

I bought a RV travel trailer at which time I of course got insurance for it through Kemper insurance and I was even was given an option to increase coverage to 10,000. So I did increase it. And while in storage it got damaged and they totaled it. And instead of paying 7,000 to repair it they gave me 3,000 and took 3 different claims agents and months of storage fees and damage increasing. So they charged me more to get better and higher coverage and still didn’t even get it fixed.

When the used parts arrive, they were damaged worst than the original parts on the car and couldn't be repaired. Six weeks into the process and I have a low ball estimate and I can't open the hatch of my SUV. The process doesn't appear to be any better for my neighbor.

The first requested some information, which I sent, and never called me back despite leaving multiple voicemails. I then received a letter from them threatening to close my claim because they said that I was unresponsive. I immediately called the agent listed on that letter and again, no response. I even spent a follow up email explaining everything and left another voicemail. Still no response. I really hate the customer service with this company. It might be cheaper, but do yourself a favor and go with a better company. No point in paying less if you can't even use your insurance to settle a claim.

I am writing this 'review' over a year later- mainly due to what Kemper did and how it has continued to affect my 86 yr. old Dad and myself, in my 60's and disabled. In 2017, my Dad asked that some of the 'limits' of a couple sections of his homeowners' policy be 'lowered'... first and foremost, because they were excessively high, which was unnecessary for such a tiny early 1920's home. Not long after... they sent him (us) a notice to 'non-renew' for a bunch of nonexistent reasons, such as 'tree's touching the dwelling' etc which were blatantly UNTRUE!
We were able to obtain (finally) another policy for less money and BETTER coverages but learned along the way that apparently when an Insurance company badmouths a residence... it is easily LOOKED UP (even if totally inaccurate) by other companies!! So, while we obtained another policy 9 months later THAT company sent a notice of 'non-renewal' listing the 'tree's' etc! I left THAT company a review much like this one! Kemper you made a fortune off my Dad for years. My then wife of some years back who WAS an Insurance agent told him he was 'paying too much' and offered to get him a palatable rate (which he didn't do). Kemper is a nasty, heartless and in my opinion (like MOST Insurance companies) EVIL entity that should be AVOIDED- or if you HAVE a policy find those rare Insurers who are still human, rather than NASTY!

I had to go with another insurance company who actually wanted to help me. Then this piece of junk company took an auto payment that they had refused to take out until this month. When I called customer service to complain the agent cut me off.
Then when I told her to shut up and let me finish she accused me of swearing and using vulgar language. I do not swear and am offended that anyone would say something like that about me. Then I told her I wanted a supervisor and she placed me on hold for 10 minutes and got me with Lynn who accused me of lying about them taking my payment! Worst company ever. When someone hits your car in the middle of the day and totals it, while it's parked outside your house, you would think the driver's insurance company would accept responsibility, right? Not if that insurance company happens to be Kemper. Our first indication that we were dealing with a company determined to deny a claim no matter what, was when we had the misfortune to be assigned a claims agent by the name of Yolanda **. We were patiently prepared to give her all the pertinent information, including the police report number, but the first question she had for us was "where's the car?" When we told her the police had ordered it removed, she said "I'm not filing this claim if the car isn't at the scene of the accident." We then attempted to speak to her supervisor, but even though this individual was pleasant to deal with (unlike Yolanda), she also asked why the police had removed it.
I responded that perhaps she ought to ask the officer in question (whose information I provided her with), but perhaps it was because there was glass and metal all over the street, and we were opposite an elementary school, where students were due to be released at any moment. Since that conversation, we tried to get information from our insurance agent, hoping that he would have better luck getting cooperation from the Claims Team at Kemper. At one point he indicated that he thought they would deny our claim because they stated to him that they had been unable to contact their client. My husband knew that the driver had been issued a citation for inattentive driving and that he would have a subsequent court date. We tracked down the prosecuting attorney's office and made note of the date and time of hearing.
I emailed both insurance companies with this information, suggesting that they send a representative to hopefully be able to speak with the driver in person. Just in case, my husband showed up, and (no surprise) neither insurance companies were represented. My husband was able, however, to speak to the owner of the vehicle and asked her point blank if she had authorized the driver to drive her car that day. The owner was a passenger in the vehicle. She told my husband that indeed she had asked him to drive since she was suffering from a migraine. My husband asked her to contact Yolanda ** and tell her exactly that.
The owner claimed that both she and the driver had attempted to contact Yolanda on several occasions and couldn't even leave her a message because a recording came on saying "mailbox is full". Today we received a curt letter from Yolanda saying our claim is denied because "we determined there is no coverage under our insured's policy for this loss. As a result, we will be unable to provide payment for any damages resulting from this accident and closed our file." Unbelievable!

I started a policy with Kemper insurance after my agent found me a good deal. It was at a very reasonable rate considering my driving history. However, less than two months after starting the policy, I moved from one Los Angeles neighborhood to another. Shortly after my move, I paid my bill for the month of July, paying the minimum that was due. Kemper then raised my insurance premium 280% without notification.
When I received my bill for the next month, it was almost triple what I had originally signed up for. When I asked about this I was told that my zip code was one of the most expensive zip codes in the state. They insisted that the rate increase was for no other reason than the move. There were no incidents or claims of any kind.
I asked them to lower it back to a reasonable amount, and said that if they did not I would cancel and find another company. Apparently they did not really care much about this, and insisted there was nothing they can do. I found another agent who found me a rate that was virtually the same as my original rate with another company. It was embarrassing how quickly it took to find a better deal, which made me also fire my agent who got me the policy with Kemper (though this agent did the best he could.)
I cancelled the policy as quickly as I could, before the next billing cycle had begun. Kemper then sent me a bill saying that I still owed them money. Apparently, they can simply decide arbitrarily that my premium can be raised anytime for any reason, and that they can then claim that I didn’t pay for coverage that I received (even though I paid my bill for the month in full at the time that it was due, in fact it was autopay so there’s no way I could have chosen to underpay). The fact that they decided to raise my premium after the fact means that no matter what I wanted, I was going to pay them a rate 280% higher than what I initially agreed to. Any reasonable organization would provide a warning about a rate increase immediately, not simply pretend like nothing had happened.
Basically, if you want an insurance company that will lure you in with a competitive rate, and then find any reason at all to raise your premium astronomically without any notification or warning, giving you no opportunity to remedy the situation, you should really go with this company. That was obviously sarcasm, stay away. Do not go with them, they are thieves. The fact that this is legal is a travesty.

I created this account just to write a review for Kemper. I had been with Kemper for almost 15 years, and had 4 cars insured with them. Mainly because I hate changing and looking for new companies, not because they were anything special. My policy was supposed to renew today and to my surprise it was instead cancelled.
Last year a relative started living with me and I added him and his car to our policy, unaware that I wasn't allowed to. I never got a phone call, email or letter about it telling me so. I logged into my account several times and nothing was red flagged, they were taking their money and all was good. Then all of a sudden on the day the policy should have renewed they cancelled my insurance because my relative's car was on there. I asked them why no one called, and why was I even allowed to add it in the first place? The lady kept putting me on long holds only to come back on the phone to accuse me of having cars on my account that aren't mine. Even though the other three are. "Whose this car belong to, how about this one and the other one?" I was like, "Lady why don't you just read the policy."
At this point I was so frustrated and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was transferred to John, who also told me I can't renew and I have to go through the sales department to start a new policy. So I got in touch with sales and they wanted to charge me almost $500 for a down payment. I was like WTF? So I got Javier's manager Bill ** who called me (3 days later) after I wrote him an email and he apologized for Javier but said that he couldn't change my claim person and went on talking about his knee surgery?
My repairs total $7,900 and they sent me a check for $903.58. I asked for follow up on September 1st and just sent another email today September 8th. Wonder when I'll get a call. This company is such a hassle. Seems easier to not have insurance because the uninsured lady who hit me got off and I'm stuck with a deductible and a headache of dealing with Kemper. I have had Kemper for several years, with no complaints. Then my daughter and her three girls moved into my house temporarily until she could find a place of her own. While they lived with me the oldest grand daughter turned 16. I took her to get her permit and used my insurance card as proof of address. Sometime later my local insurance agent called me and said that Kemper was going to go up on my insurance because I had a teenage driver living at my house.
I told the agent I was not covering her. End of story, right. Wrong, Kemper has been taking 443 dollars out of my bank account for two months and now has dropped me because I don't have the money to keep paying. I told my agent that I didn't have the money that my grand daughter doesn't live with me anymore and I wanted my money back. She said that wasn't going to happen. They are thieves. They did not have authorization to take that much money put off my account. I'm retired, and that's half of my money.

This is the absolute worst insurance company. They don't answer the phone and your adjuster doesn't return calls. We were supposed to get an advance on a deductible because the accident wasn't our fault. Not only didn't we get it, but our car was in the shop for a month and paid in full... and we still didn't get it. "Check #2 was supposed to be overnighted." Definitely not! After almost 2 months and having our car back for a few weeks... we finally got it. Buyer beware because their customer service is awful along with the adjusters!!!

A driver, covered under Kemper Insurance Agency, backed out of a parking space (at a gas station) and crashed into my car while I was standing at my gas tank pumping gas. The driver got out and apologized and handed over her insurance information. I called and started the claim immediately. The adjuster called me the morning after for the story and nothing since. I've called her numerous times and she consistently claims she can't get ahold of the insured. I called the insured myself and she said she has heard from the insurance company. I spoke with the insured about a week ago and just the morning the adjuster is claiming she can't get in touch with the insured.
This adjuster also said that I can have my own insurance company cover this until they can prove fault. This company has not showed any accountability and was actually extremely rude while speaking with them. Just seeing how they do business, I would NEVER put my trust in them to make sure I was taken care of as a client.

Not only did I have to do the work in providing them the information, including using an app for my car's relevant info/photos that was difficult to navigate, they have been basically unresponsive. I called the claims department twice and was disconnected when they tried to forward me to the adjuster. When I called back for the third time, they suggested I call MY insurance company and report the issue. The adjuster finally texted me the claims application. I took the 13 pictures required by the application. However, the application failed to upload properly.
I called the tech support number, waited on hold for while and finally was told the office was closed and to call back Monday. This company appears to be unwilling to help people. The claims adjuster, Beverly **, is confrontational on the phone and unwilling to be helpful. The Kemper customer, SPARTAK LLC in San Leandro, did provide me insurance information but nothing else. I reported a claim to Kemper for an accident which I was not at fault. I was told to download the Kemper Photo inspection application. I decided to proceed and receive a body shop estimate from a professional body shop instead of using their application. I submitted the body shop estimate to the insurance company and they stated that I must use their application before they would review my claim. I proceeded to take the photos they requested however when I received my initial estimate from the insurance company I was shocked. The estimate they sent a check for to the body shop was more than $1300 less than the body shop estimate I received. I highly do not recommend Kemper. The entire claims process was a hassle. I wasted several days trying to get my claim resolved. While the initial claims interaction was positive the entire remaining claims process was awful.
This insurance company did not provide clear expectations and or guidance about their claims process. My adjuster did not ask me what happened to my car and did not ask me whether I had sustained any injuries as a result of the accident which I was not at fault. I was legally parked when their insured hit me. Therefore it was extremely clear that I was not responsible however this insurance company treated me like I was the one at fault. I had to call the insurance company several times and complain before they would listen to me. When I asked to speak to a supervisor they got defensive and not friendly. The supervisor I spoke to had an attitude and she was not helpful in addressing the fact that they provided an incorrect estimate. I strongly recommend you consider a different insurance company. It took me 4 phone calls and 5 more days for them to send an agent out after they got images from their adjuster. My car was totaled out.
I did as they said and was told they would overnight the check to me when the title and car were signed over. Call to check and make sure it's processed and the check would be overnighted. They claim it’s after hours at both places when I'm standing in the office of Copart and on the phone with Kemper. The next day I call to get the check overnighted and they tell me I won't have the check for 5 more days. My car was stolen in Los Angles in early December 2016. The car was stolen to LAPD and was recovered by Oakland PD. It is now March 10, 2017, and my claim has still not been paid. I have complied with every request from Kemper/Alliance. I have provided every documentation requested by Kemper/Alliance. Even after my claim was turned over for a "special investigation," I provided the necessary information in order for my claim to be processed and paid. However, it seems as though Kemper/Alliance is doing everything that they can not to pay out my claim. The claim adjuster barely, if ever, return calls in regards to my claim. During this process, the tow company in Oakland sold my car, without my permission.
The claims adjuster told me that I would not be paid the full value of my car because Kemper/Alliance was not in possession of my car. He stated that the "salvage cost" would be deducted from the final payout. I asked why the car wouldn't be treated as an unrecovered vehicle and I receive the total payout for my car. He told me that I personally would have to sue the tow company that sold my car. I have provided receipts for my rental car and has custom equipment on my car. None of these factors have been included, to my knowledge, in the payout of my car; because I have not received any information from the claims adjuster that my claim will in fact be paid or how it will be paid.
This is the WORST insurance company I have ever had to deal with my in my life. They have tried to do everything possible to not pay this claim. I'm three months into this process even after the car was recovered almost immediately after it was stolen. The money you might save from a more competitively priced insurance policy is not worth the aggravation incurred if or when you have to actually file a claim with this company. The only time I have heard of claim taking this long to be paid is when there is an accident and there are injuries or a civil suit filed. I will never again in my life do business with this company. I've had Kemper since 1997. Same house. Same everything. The only claim I had was 6 years ago for a hail damaged roof. For some reason Kemper increased my rate by over $2000 (yearly) this past summer. I didn't catch it until my mortgage payment suddenly increased by $250 a month. It turned out to be because the insurance had increased so much. Kemper had my house insured for three times what it is worth. I shopped around and obtained three quotes from three different companies. All were lower than what I had been paying prior to the increase.
So I went with State Farm and am paying less than half of what Kemper was charging. Not sure what is going on with Kemper, but it was really hard to get them to honor my agent's request to cancel. I guess in this day and time, customer loyalty is no longer a factor with many insurance companies and they believe once you are a customer they can simply keep increasing the rates and you will not notice. We will need to shop around for home and auto insurance on a yearly basis until this nonsense settles down.

This is my second term with Kemper, and they have been so disappointing. My fiancé and I were involved in an accident where a car t-boned us, and since their insurance limit was only $5000, we had to go with our own insurance to cover the damages of the cost. The accident happened on June 6, and it is July 1 today and they STILL do not know how much the damage of our car is worth (whether it's totaled or not). They told us in the first week that they should know by the next, so when we didn't receive a call from them, we called them and asked. They told us AGAIN that they should know by the following week, and AGAIN, they told us there was some miscommunication and so they cancelled the appraisal. I don't understand why there would even be a cancellation of the appraisal in a car accident. So again, they told us that we should know by next week.
I called them on Wednesday (June 29), and our claims officer (?) told us that they should know by the end of the day and she told ME to call HER for an update. So I told her, "No, you need to call us", so she agreed. It is now Friday (July 1), and she still did not call, so when I called, she was unreachable so I was transferred to another person, in which they said that the appraiser JUST received our car and that we should know by next Tuesday or Wednesday. Since we don't know if our car has been totaled or not, we don't know if we need to buy a new car or not, and so we've been paying out-of-pocket for a rental car since "we didn't opt for the rental reimbursement option" when we were never even told that there was such a thing.
Thankfully, the other driver's insurance may be able to reimburse us for the rentals. All in all, their claims department is a joke, and I can tell they do not consider their clients as a priority. They expect YOU to call and ask for updates, and their premiums aren't even that much cheaper than bigger insurance companies. I do NOT recommend Kemper insurance to ANYONE.

I was rear ended by a Kemper Insurance client. I was at a stop light, and when the light turned green, I was about to go, when I was hit very hard by a big pickup truck, from behind. My car was a small two seater sports car with rear engine. The back was smashed in. The license plate was driven into the engine compartment. The engine light came on. I could drive it, but it sounded really bad. I took it to a highly rated local mechanic who has been my mechanic for 20+ years. He told me the muffler and catalytic converter were ripped off the engine. The engine mounts are cracked. The tail-lights are no longer made by any parts maker.
Short story, he says it is totaled. But Kemper sends an appraiser to the shop; she only looks at the outside body damage and gives an estimate of $2200, which is not even a fourth of the car's blue-book value. And that "offer" I dragged out of them after several weeks of calling them and asking them to deal with this and finally threatening to get a lawyer. If you are thinking to get insurance, think about what would happen if you make a mistake and cause someone else damage. Do you want your company insurance not to make themselves responsible for the damages, and possibly open you up to getting sued along with them? I hate the idea of getting a lawyer and starting a lawsuit, have never done it, but I see no other way out.

I've never had any issues dealing with a claim, which was only 2 times, when there was another company to bill a claim to. If you don't have someone to blame it on, RUN. This company is the absolute worst!
1) A giant traffic cone flew down the highway off of a city of Dallas truck causing wrecks and chaos. Instead of causing a wreck, the cone flew under the front of my car ripping off the front plate, knocking the bumper loose, and other pieces underneath the car. Called Kemper and they did the usuals, asked where I could take it to get fixed. Kemper told me I could take it to the shop, but they wanted an adjuster to look at it. I said this is pointless because an adjuster can't pick up my car to check underneath for damage. Kemper said they'd send someone just to see if I needed a rental car.
I waited for HOURS at a restaurant. Needing to go to work & pick up my child, I went ahead & took it to Honda. When I took it to Honda, they said Kemper closed the assignment so they couldn't look at it. They tried to call Kemper, but they were closed for the day. Honda said they couldn't look at it for a week anyway, but said it was safe to drive for now. They'd call to catch up with Kemper & let me know when I could bring it back. Weeks go by and nothing. Now, the front of my bumper is starting to fall off & drag the ground whenever it feels like it. Also, I'm told that $500 is my deductible, even though this is a flying object that hit MY car, and not a collision with a person or vehicle. And that my rental car may not be covered, per Honda.
Finally, after dealing with paperwork back & forth, my car is in the shop. After about a day, I find out it won't be $500, it's $264. Plus, I have to pay daily for rental car, plus I have to get a new license plate, oh but good news, "it won't go on your record because it's not over $500!" Per Honda. Anyway, I finally swallow the cost to fix my car & find out its going to be a couple more days for parts to come in. Kemper was being a B about dealing with Honda & Enterprise for the rental. Not returning phone calls and such. Kemper asks me about the rental & I have called them several times about my rental. They pay only $20/day. Which was a crap shoot & a pain to grind out anyway.
After talking to Kim, Cindy, Vicky & every other rude csr at Kemper, Supervisor says she will look into it. So Enterprise calls me and asks if Kemper is covering the rental car. I'm like hell if I know? That's not my job. Why don't you call them. "Well, they're not responding." FIGURES. This happened on 9/30 & it's now 11/17. Enterprise calls & says, "Hey, we're charging you $93 because Kemper decided not to cover your car rental. Sorry." I asked why all of a sudden? "We normally don't keep claims open for more than 5 days, but we couldn't get an answer from them, but they finally said no to covering yours." I emailed my 'rep' Kim to find out why they won't cover it when they said they would.
I was already out of pocket, when apparently you can file a claim like this with the city, but the idiots at Kemper don't give a crap about the truth or actually HELPING their customers. I want to know why they are rude, inconsiderate, incompetent and charging monthly fees? Because they do not know how to do their jobs correctly. I've had to do all the work on this claim & pay for it. PIECE OF CRAP COMPANY!!!
2) Hit a giant pothole on the hwy on the way to work. 5pm. I call Kemper in a panic to get any kind of help or advice. The girl said, "Well, I don't know? Do you want an adjuster to come or a tow truck?" Ok, I'm at work from 5-10pm over an hour away from my house. She says the adjuster can come tomorrow. HELLO **, I won't be here tomorrow. She didn't know what to say. Anytime I asked a question, she said, "I don't know." She got some other woman on 3way and all she could do was say, "It'll be $55 for them to come look at it tomorrow. I don't have access to your information so it'll cost you. You can get a tow truck for a charge." I ended up driving on a tire that was a giant bubble & I was terrified it dented my rim. Later found out that I could've again called the city. These people do not need to be open & operating!!! Worst company ever!

Kemper says I owe them money which I do not... Here are quotes from a broker I had since 2012, and stop using them because I switch cars which Kemper would not insure me from what my broker told me on the phone. My broker talked to Kemper and this is what he said they're saying to him. Kemper is a fraud I'm not paying ** I don't own... SORRY IN ADVANCE FOR WORDING. I'M FURIOUS RIGHT NOW!!!
BROKER QUOTE: The preceding email is proof of insurance per 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer 5/26/15 emailed to you. Underwriting said they mailed you the declaration pages and proof of insurance. Further, they said the only way to back-date coverage for this vehicle is to show proof of insurance for this vehicle with another company during this time.
ME ANSWERING BACK: I didn't have insurance with any one at this time, reason for why I was trying to get insurance from you even after 5/26/15. So that's proof once again right there. Wasn't driving the car since the DMV suspended the registration cause no insurance since we spoke... Nor did I get insurance email and if I did have insurance I would have paid for it in advance, not down the road. That's ridiculous. And I was told by you that I would not be covered by Kemper, I remember those exact words. Then I got a quote from a different company from You Few days after which was too high. So I said no on buying the coverage because it was too high. So this amount needs to be cancelled out. I don't owe any money whatsoever. I'm not going to give free money out.
I also remember you adding the Mitsubishi to the Subaru policy. Then you told me on the phone, you found out that Kemper was not going to insure my Mitsubishi because of the cost of the car. Reason for me this entire time I've been calling back past few months for quotes, since 5/26/15 and denying those quotes. Because the cost was way too much, you even agreed when I said that. This miscommunication is between you and Kemper. This debt needs to be zeroed out. I would not get insurance unless paid for in advance like I always have, ever since I've been with Kemper for 3 yrs and always has been that way.

My car (09 Toyota Camry) bumper came out, driver side airbag light ON, passenger side airbag light always indicate OFF, and passenger side seat belt light ON, all caused by the rear hit. Kemper accepts the liability, but said that it is "highly unlikely" that the airbag light and seat belt light problem are caused by the hit. I want to have a rental car because of the malfunction of the airbag/seat belt caused by the hit, but they said that they would not responsible for the rental unless the repair shop convinced them about the airbag/seat belt light problem is caused by the hit. And the Kemper person told me "their experts believe it is highly unlikely that is caused by the hit". What a rude/irresponsible comment!

However, I am very disappointed with the Texas bunch. I finally got my car in to the Tyler Ford body shop and was instructed by Kemper to go get a rental car. I was informed I would be able to get a rental car comparable to my car. After holding on the phone line for over 50 minutes, finally talked to an agent at Kemper to get a confirmation number for the rental. The rental company had a camaro available for me to rent (most comparable car to my 2015 mustang). However, the Kemper agent, Maria, informed the sports car, camaro, was not comparable to my car and would not pay for this rental. Only a 2013 Altima (or mid-size car). I had been told prior by another Kemper employee I would be able to rent a car comparable to my 2015 mustang. This is my first sports car to ever own, brand-new, and was hit by a Kemper insured individual. Not my fault! I am very unhappy with their attitude. In fact, Maria told me my reason wasn't good enough for Kemper to allow me to rent the camaro. (Just because I had bought a new sports car!)
I then contacted Maria's manager, Greg **. He was no help in solving my complaint. In fact, he told me to contact my own insurance company to see what their service on rental cars would be in this type of incident. I have TX Farm Bureau Insurance and have used them several times with prior car incidents. I have always been satisfied with their service in car rentals as needed. In fact, I rented a mustang with no problems!
Finally, I asked Mr. ** to send me a survey of Kemper Insurance. He says it's a random selection, which, I am sure I will NOT be receiving a survey from them. I am very dissatisfied with their service and would NEVER recommend Kemper Insurance to anyone. I feel that since I do not send them money/premiums, they are not concerned with my satisfaction from Texas.

I was backed into by a Kemper-insured driver, and it is taking weeks to get results. Although the driver was cited, they refused to permit any repair until the police report arrived. Let's time that one by the month. They do not return calls. And here's the best part: just try to find a customer service department. I was transferred to 4 different locations and departments before it dawned on me they don't have one! I finally reached someone, who was willing to call herself a customer service employee. But when I explained the time frame and the problem, she said, "I have no idea how to even begin to give you an answer on that." Deadpan. Silence. I thought she'd hung up until I got a "yeah?" to my "hello". This insurance company is laughable if it wasn't so frustratingly painful dealing with them. Getting hit by one of their insureds is like having your purse stolen.
