In my opinion this company is unbelievably dishonest and underhanded. If I wrote all the things they have done so far I couldn't fit it all in this review. How they have any stars amazed me. Look at the dates though. Most reviews above one star are from before 2019. This company should not be allowed to even operate!! I guess it shows how corrupt our government is to let companies like this exist.
Some things they do.... Call multiple times. You pick up, they hang up, they hang up in the middle of talking, they hang up when transferring you, they wait forever to return calls, mostly they try not to respond, you call and it sends you directly to your adjustor that doesn't respond, they switch you to multiple adjustors and say, "Oh it's not me. It's them," I believe I've had 3- 4 so far. They told me they didn't even have to respond to me for 30 days, they are soo bad. I had a hard time finding a body shop that works with them because they don't want to pay among other things. The list goes on and on.

This company is absolutely awful. Their customer service is atrocious, and they don't even answer their phones. I have been a customer for only a handful of months and I am fed up with their lack of care or quality assistance and I HAVE NEVER EVEN NEEDED TO FILE A CLAIM! Their rates are great but everything else about this company is both sub-par and inexcusably unprofessional. Now after frustrating interactions I have tried to cancel only to be given the run around and hung up on... wish I would have known prior.

This is by far the worse company I ever had to deal with! I have been hit by a car not by fault insured by Kemper and to receive help from them is ridiculous! They are denying a claim that I am currently fighting for now! Avoid these people! I am currently taking legal action against them!

AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!! This is the absolute worst insurance company you could ever get. Good luck getting them to do anything!! They don't answer their emails. They don't care about you or your car and they charge extremely crazy prices. It was cheaper for me to go to Progressive with two cars than one car with this company with the exact same insurance. FIND ANYTHING else but these people! Scum bags.

My Toyota Prius was parked and hit by a drunk driver, the drunk driver had Kemper insurance, AND THEY ARE BY FAR THE WORST COMPANY. It's been 1 year and 3 months and still haven't been paid for my crashed vehicle (they said my vehicle was totaled), and good luck if you get a human to speak to because most of the time you're gonna get a answering machine, and the claim adjustor will give you the run around (pretending to be sympathetic and having corporate responses). THIS COMPANY IS HORRIBLE.

Erin ** EXT ** & Candida ** EXT ** are the worst Managers & Adjusters there are. I've been Calling everyday to the 800 # trying to reach them and they do not and HAVE NOT answered a single phone call. Nor have they returned ANY of my emails. Some guy with this insurance company rear ended my car and they're refusing to fix it.

Kemper Auto merged with American Access and changed their policy and ways of handling renews and reinstatement of policies and failed to let their policyholders know. They are unprofessional and rude and like to argue and hang up on people. They said they might have done different things last month or months but this month it's different. Which sounds likes it's not consistent and they will not make an easy transition for the other companies policy holders to come over. American Access had great customer service and always helped.
Kemper employees are rude, awful and do not care about their policyholders. I will not be returning after this month. Horrible experience with them and they will screw up how your policy works and not tell you or the 3rd party insurance companies they work with about their changes. Kemper employees will say they can not help you or do anything to fix your policy. Basically, you're on your own. Just find another better insurance company. Preferably one who actually cares.

Been calling and get the runaround. They sent me a check to get my car fixed on 6/7/23 and on the 12th they canceled the check. Leaving me to pay to fix my car. Now I'm out for repairs from my own back pocket. When you're on fix income car repairs are not easy done.. If I could give them a -5 stars I sure would. They work for themselves and no one else.

Kemper notified us they will no longer be conducting business in MO. We found a new insurer and made the transition weeks ago. Kemper even refunded the balance we overpaid for the rest of our term. However, we just got drafted for another automatic ACH. If all we had to do was call it in and get a refund I wouldn't be here. We have been transferred all over the company and nobody seems to be able to help us. We have been hung up on several times.
We went through Reece Nichols to get Kemper when we bought our house- but since Kemper is out of business in MO and our policy is no longer valid they don't seem to be able to do anything either. Where is our $ going exactly? Why didn't Kemper stop auto withdrawals when they sent out notices in MO? Why doesn't Kemper have anyone who can handle this sort of thing anywhere in the company? Shady and scammy behavior- how many other people are having this issue but can't reach anyone to resolve it?

They held my policy hostage when I tried to cancel 8 months ago. Could not close the policy despite several attempts. First I sent an email with their cancellation form attached and signed, along with written instructions on when to cancel the policy. No cancellation. Then my new insurance provider also reached out to cancel. No cancellation. After my new company said they reached out, I assumed I was fine. Kemper had documentation of both cancellations. Then Kemper's bill shows up. I reach out again.
They won't cancel by phone. They send me the accursed form again, which I fill out and send back. They reply saying I've filled it out wrong and lie about never seeing a cancellation request. I review the error and, behold, the form does not contain the alleged error. I have the reply chain in my inbox. I send it again. They allege another different error that does not exist. Again. I chew them out. Nothing happens. I am still in insurance hades with these weasels stoking the coals.

I was in a accident on 01/25/23 and had the car picked up that night. 2 months later and I'm still waiting for my money that was left over from the paying off my car loan. The at-fault driver also had Kemper and they still couldn't communicate properly! Now I can't even get in contact with my adjustor. When I call it literally said, "Your adjustor could not be found" for 2 weeks before they found him and even then no reply. DO NOT CALL ON FRIDAYS, they do the most to avoid answering. They'll, "Call you," let it ring for 3 seconds then hang up so you won't answer and send you a text right after making it seem like they tried contacting you!

During the recent storms my car was hit while parked, nothing major but my hatch is dented and water is getting in, the rear view camera went upside down and bumper & plate is dented. my deductible is $500 and the parts cost twice that so I decided to file a claim My insurance was good till March 2nd my incident happened on or before Feb 28th because that is the date I noticed it was hit. No note was left that I could find but for all I know the person left a note and the storm blew it away. Anyway, I go to renew the insurance and today is the 7th.. I had paid the coverage in full so I didn't expect them to be claiming I am not covered and NOW the cost to renew is astronomical! Oh my gosh I am a student. I rely on the car for basic errands. I'm not a crooked person. I wish I called in the incident sooner but I spent a day or two calling around to buy the hatch used somewhere.
I hang up the phone with the rudest customer service rep, when he answered he sounded like he had a texas accent, then as he kept speaking he dropped his fake accent and spoke with his actual voice, he was not American and became rude and outlandish and I just don't understand why he felt he needed to do that. I am confused at all the deception tactics and now I'm sitting here, I gave this company money and they refuse to do the repair? I pay insurance IN CASE something happens.. Over 30 years driving I have never had an accident nor needed to use my insurance. I have been screwed over by the very entity we rely on to help us in case something happens. Insurance companies truly do look for loopholes and I hope someone can go in and sue them for such wrongful deeds.. Contact me if anyone is filing any class action suits. Put an end to deceptive companies.

Never ever trust them, I got an auto policy and was able to cancel within their requirements based on my broker. One's cancelled, no balances at all. I received a letter with treats that I will be on collection of I don't pay 1 month + another month late fee. Funny how they decided to add miles on my policy without my consent or call. This is an abuse to customers and because is a yearly deal. You will never pay attention unless you really see them for who they are!! Don't trust them!!!

12/12/22 We filed a claim for a vehicle totaled by a tree falling on it and 30 days later not a single response after initial letter giving the claim number and telling us that it is our "duty" to mitigate their expenses. In the mean time we have had to rent a vehicle and pay for it out of our own pocket. They towed the vehicle 2 days after we filed. We have made numerous phone calls, left voice mails, and sent emails to the person handling our claim, his supervisor, and another agent. No one from Kemper has bothered to contact us in any way. The only one that has been of any assistance to us is the person that came out to look at the vehicle and claim it as totaled. She even sent emails to the company representatives on our behalf. This is so unacceptable and unnecessary.

Tried a new company for cheaper rates. Quoted, accepted, and paid. I received a letter stating there was problems with our roof. No explanation given. Next day received a refund check. They had canceled our insurance. I had been with my previous company for years with no problems! Our roof is not new but we have no problems. They canceled with no explanation. I would not recommend this company to anyone!!! I’ve never been canceled in my life!

The adjuster would not even let me finish my sentence, even less listening and trying to understand how the accident happened. She had her own version and was very fixed on it. She made no sense of her own version and would not listen to reason or facts. She was just focused on saving $ for the company.

This company is the worst ever! The customer service is very unprofessional, they do not return your calls or emails. When the adjuster did call me he yelled, told me to figure what needed to be done on my own. William ** told me that he was an independent contacted and that he didn’t have a supervisor yelling that I needed to call and see why the things were not getting done. He is very unprofessional, yelling and taking over me to then tell me to just figure it out and hung up on me. I called to speak with a supervisor which was not much help either. I am without a car due to their insured customer that ran a red light going about 60+ mph and he stated that it was not his fault I have a high-end vehicle which will not be covered because this insurance company let you have the bear minimum cover to basically say you have insurance. This company needed to be shut down and sued.

Kemper prides itself on serving high-risk drivers, who are otherwise uninsurable. I'm all for helping people get back on their feet after a mistake or mishap, but if you're going to be your brother's keeper, then be your brother's keeper. A Kemper insured driver, who was a known insurance risk, careened down our street while blind drunk, hitting six vehicles, including ours, and impacting on the corner of our home, destroying the brick foundation there and costing us $2K to repair. While the driver was insured, he was also insolvent, and the total damages he caused far outweigh the minimum property liability coverage he was allowed, by Kemper, to carry.
Blah-blah-blah, within the limits of the law, Kemper is just doing what the law says they must, blah-blah-blah. So we're expecting to receive a pro-rated offer of reimbursement out of the available $5K in coverage the driver had. And he caused in excess of $20K in damages to all injured parties. I will never in my life recommend Kemper to anyone.

I don’t know how they have a 3.8 rating, this insurance is terrible. I went out of my way to make an account on Consumer Affairs to leave a review that’s how frustrated I am. My vehicle was totaled Dec of 2021, Merry Christmas right and as of 7/28/22 that I am writing this review, they have yet to pay out my claim which they have already taken responsibility of. The adjuster tried to give me a hard time with the options that my vehicle came equipped with from factory in hopes that I take less than what the vehicle is worth. She asked me to get the original invoice from 15 years ago lol which I was able to get. After that was settled and we agree that I would do my title myself in order to get payment I get a call this is in May of 2022 from a new adjuster. It turns out she fenced off my claim to another adjuster which shouldn’t have gotten it because she doesn’t take care of that state I am in.
Nonetheless this new adjuster helps me as much as she possibly can and she convinces me to send the title that once she gets it she’ll send payment instead of me having to wait for my state to process the title and get payment even later. When it is time to send me the check July 2022 she says she can’t because she’s missing a document which was sent and shows delivered and signed for but they can’t find. She then adds salt to the wound to tell me the claim has to go back to the previous adjuster because she’s the one that’s supposed to send the check. I know this adjuster will give me the run around again in order to pay out my claim, the problem is they now have my title as well. I’ll update this if I can later.

I don't even want to give a star, extremely dissatisfied, disappointed. Nobody knows anything, zero assistance. They give you different numbers to call for a simple question and roadside assistance is a joke. I have never had such a bad experience in my life. I am done with this company.

Try to fix my Truck in my preferred body shop and they coursed me into taking it to one of their DRPs. Huge mistake! Their preferred body shop was no good. I have to take the truck back due to a poor paint job and bodywork. The adjusters are bullies. Especially Abraham **. Mr ** was rude and very unprofessional. They try to give you the least amount possible and hope you take it. I feel sorry for anybody who would have to deal with Kemper.

I was rear end on Friday night and we exchanged insurance info. Come Monday, I get in touch with my insurance company to give them her info. They call me back and say, "Sorry about your luck." State Farm scared them because they said there wasn't anything they can do about it. I would give it zero if possible. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

This insurance company has to be the absolute worst. They have the worst customer service. They do not return your call. I hate and wish no one has to go through them for claims because is just awful. I have been with them for over 8 years. When my car got hit while packer by a drunk driver it was a haste dealing with them. It happened in May 25, 2021 and a year later my car is still waiting for an approval to get fixed. I finally got fed up and cancelled my policy. I do not recommend them at all.

One of the worst experience customer service and managing claims I've ever had. Someone insured by them hit me and as I am writing this review, it has been 10 days that I have not received any response regarding my claim, or offering a loaner car and fixing my car, whatsoever! 10 days and I do not have any clue what the hell is happening to my claim. THIS IS JUST RIDICULOUS. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!

Consumer BEWARE!! -0 stars for Kemper…. 1 star is generous! This is THE WORST Company I have EVER dealt with. We were customers for years. Had 2 incidents over 5+ years. Both times we got the time around from them. No follow up. No customer service. SO unprofessional and inadequate. Our “adjuster” never contacted US, instead they worked with the the other party to get THEIR side of the story. Will use ANY loophole they can to ensure they “can’t” cover your claim.
Jocelyn was horrible…. Her voicemail in the middle of summer was still her holiday (Christmas greeting!! In July). She was always out of the office when we tried to contact her. And she would tell us she never received our email or voicemail even tho we had the email chain & would show her our call log history. Everyone that works there is a JOKE! They are a SCAM!! Ended up canceling our policy to get a better policy for less. Lesson learned. Kemper Auto insurance will close their doors soon. These type of business won’t survive. They are out to get your money. Insurance is a fraud and Kemper is a perfect example of a joke of a company!

This company is a joke. My son was hit by one of their insured and the adjuster don't even answer calls back or emails. This is what happens when someone buys insurance from this high risk insurers and defeat the purpose of having insurance. Drag claims as long as they can hoping for the affected party to get tired. You read so many complaints about this company, A class action suit should be filed.

This is a horrible company!! Their client hit us and is totally at fault. All they wanted to pay was $253, and didn’t send out an adjuster, that was by looking at their photo claims app. The damage was far more extensive than that. We have had nothing but a runaround from them. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY!! They’re con artists, even their clients cannot get them to help them. We will most likely have to retain an attorney and go to court to receive any kind of payment for the actual damages.

Got in a major accident with a Kemper-insured motorist. Driver took left turn in front of me where I was traveling 60+ MPH. My 2021 van which I owned was totaled, windows smashed, frame bent, van flipped over upside down, destroyed. My life was ruined. Could not get a van like it for under $50k, BUT I OWNED IT not the banks. These vipers at Kemper play games and runarounds and why they are still in business legally is beyond me. Accident was 1/19/22 and I am still waiting on them. They do NOT return calls. They do NOT answer calls. The rats working there should be jailed.

Claim of a stolen vehicle and having to constantly email and call with no response! Finally settled and our claim adjuster, Malcom, issued the payment to an incorrect name. Never answers his phone! I will shop elsewhere for insurance!
