When we submitted our claim to AHS, it was easy. However, it didn't come out as advertised because the guy got sick. But the second time around, he came out and fixed our AC with no problems. He was courteous and efficient. It's been good since he left. There have been no further issues.

My most recent claim with AHS was for the dryer. The contractor was great. He was on time, told us about the issue right away and took care of it very promptly. He was very observant and caring for his work and made sure that whatever he needed to take care of was done within a reasonable time. AHS is quick, trustworthy and prompt.

AHS fixed my kitchen sink recently. I was initially a little miffed because I have wanted a particular plumber and they didn't send that guy. However, after the guy came, he turned out to be a very nice guy. So in the end, it worked out fine. We've had AHS for many years and I will continue to renew my policy. I bought another policy for my son and daughter-in-law so I am clearly a satisfied customer. I am very happy with them.

I have been a big fan of American Home Shield. My sister-in-law told me about them a year ago and we decided to get their services. We've been in a home for 18 years without a home warranty and my sister-in-law told us it's great value because when something breaks, I can call, AHS would give me the number of the company that's gonna fix it, and I'll get the service in a short period of time. I find that AHS comes through with what they say. Their warranty is of great value to me and I've promoted them to a lot of people.
I wasn't happy the first time with the company that came to fix my air conditioning though. I mentioned this to AHS but the company ended up having to come back because I had a problem with their work and I would have to pay another $75 if I use a different company. When they came back, they had to replace the unit but it was still not working afterwards. Another guy had to come back because the drain was unclogged. This was a little disconcerting because it was the same company that had to come back three times within a short period of time. The first guy who came should have recognized that it needed more than just a little of this or that. Furthermore, when it got replaced, they should have made sure everything was exactly the way it was in the house. The person who coordinated the calls was also incredibly rude and unaccommodating. In the end though, they did a good job fixing the issue, so I've been very happy.

My recent claim was for a bad outlet in the bathroom and the kitchen. It was easy in that I did everything online - set up an appointment online, reported the claim online. The technician who came out was very kind and informative of what was going on and now everything has been working great since the repairs.

We've had a good experience with AHS. They were responsive to everything that we did and they had good contractors. They did exactly what they said they were going to do and everyone that worked for them were responsive, too. When we talked to them on the phone they were helpful and expedient. For all of the repairs - for the stove and toilet - everyone called and made their appointments immediately and they fixed it.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good so far. I recently had a plumbing issue. There was a toilet that was leaking and they fixed the leak. We use Syracuse Plumbing over here and they've been here a number of times to fix stuff that goes wrong in the house and they always get things done. They're always in contact with me within a day unless they're really busy and then they tell me that they won't be able to get to me because they're backlogged with something. But usually, they're here within a day. They've always been excellent. Whoever American Home Shield sends here has always been good whether it's an electrician, a plumber or for appliances. They do a good job. I've recommended them to a lot of people already.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was regarding a burned up instant hot water maker underneath the sink. I had filled out my claim online, got an email back right away and they dispatched the guy the day after they set up the appointment. Then the next day the guy showed up. He had anticipated that it was in fact burned out and brought a new instant hot water maker out. All done in two days. It works better than the old one since the repair. All my experiences with American Home Shield have been wonderful. I've had 5 or 6 issues in the last two years and every one of them have been resolved. They're always understanding and responsive. I purchased my new home the first week of October and with that came a home warranty from your company. After being in the house for a week, the hot water heater was not working properly so I called American Home Shield on Thursday, October 8th. I did not hear back from anyone that day so I called again the next morning on Friday, October 9th to find out the status of my order. I was told that the company that you contract with was 2 weeks out and they were trying to find another company to do the repair. Do you only have one company that you work with in my area?
I waited all day but still did not receive a call back so I called again around 4:30 pm to find out what the situation was. I was told they were still looking but if I wanted to find a company that was licensed and insured, then they would give me an authorization code to move forward with that. I was told I would have to pay the company upfront and then I would be reimbursed for that service. However, before the company was allowed to do any work, they were to call American Home Shield back and give an estimate of the cost. Once I got off the phone with American Home Shield at 4:45 pm that Friday, I called a heating and cooling company and I was told that is would cost $108 just to come into my house as it was an after-hours call. I then called American Home Shield back and asked if that was covered in my policy and I was told it was not.
Not only was I doing the work of your company, American Home Shield, by finding my own contractor but I had to pay the fees upfront along with an after-hours fee. Needless to say, I did not have them come and fix the hot water heater as I was not going to pay that after-hours fee. I have come to the conclusion that anything after 5 pm and on the weekend, I am out of luck as the companies you contract with will not do service calls during those times. This is not good customer service.
After being without hot water going on 5 days, I made an appointment on Monday, October 12th. The repair man showed up and I explained that we needed to contact American Home Shield before he could fix anything and give an estimate for the repairs. After being on phone with American Home Shield for over 45 minutes, we were able to get the authorization code for the hot water heater to be fixed.
Not only was I very discouraged with the customer service I received during this entire ordeal, the repair man was exasperated. As you can imagine, my first experience with American Home Shield was anything was pleasant. I will think long and hard about renew my home warranty with your company for next year. I strongly encourage you to revamp your policies and improve your customer service to all or your clients.
Hi Jo, I am sorry to hear about this recent experience. I do understand that it can be frustrating. American Home Shield does offer in the event we do not have a company to service for you to get the work done on your own and we would reimburse for the covered repairs. I do again apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. I do appreciate your feedback and if you are still in need of assistance please let me know. Thanks! ^CW

Then when they ordered a part, the wrong part showed up, I had to wait almost a month without a washing machine and I wasn't happy about that. I have been very satisfied with Home Shield but for this one account. I was not satisfied with the service I got from the provider. If I wasn't happy with AHS, I wouldn't be advising my friends to join up. For my most recent claim for the GE gas oven though, it took several days for GE to get back to me and it was over a week before they could schedule the repair. They told me that my AC had frozen up like a block of ice and he couldn't do anything until it was thawed out. So he came back the next day. It was my filters that were not letting enough air in and that's what made the unit freeze up. So the system was okay, but I needed to change those filters. The technician pulled the dirty filters out and left them downstairs. I didn't get them changed. I had to buy the filters and give the 100 bucks to the contractor. Those guys were nice, but I found this odd and didn't know if that was how this should be handled, and I wasn't there to question it. I agreed to pay the $100 charge and I ended up paying $180. American Home Shields been good so far. I do not like the billing system though. I think it's very disrespectful to not be able to send an invoice to a person and allow them the opportunity to see to pay the bill before they get a notice saying the pay is due. I can't stand that and I just found out that my bill is due on the 28th of every month. I didn't really know that because I'm depending on American Home Shield to send me an invoice so that I could pay my bill on time. I tried to pay a month in advance to avoid getting that horrifying notice that my bill is past due. It wouldnt let me do it. It only allowed me to pay one month at a time. So now that I know that my bill is due on the 28th, I'm going to make every attempt to be sure that I pay that. There's no reason for them not to have a system that allows a person to pay the bill and not receive one of those horrible notices stating that my bill is past due.
I think they're doing a good job in terms of hiring some really good people but some of them are not as knowledgeable as others. American Home Shield needs to realize that they need to invest the money and being sure that customer satisfaction is of the essence. One of the greatest downfalls of a lowest company is customer service. The other part of that is when one calls a company to talk to a live person and they're just going through a whole series of telephone prompts that by the time one gets to a live person, they're annoyed. All I want to do is talk to a live person that can help me.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my air conditioning system, a central air unit. The coils were damaged and leaking in the house resulting in a lot of water damage and black mold. But American Home Shield isn't responsible for secondary damage. I called American Home Shield August 15th as soon as I saw the water on the floor. First, I assumed it was the water heater because it was coming from that area. So we took off the paneling to expose it. And then I could see the water was cold and it was coming from the air conditioning unit so I opened it up and it had been spraying water in there. So I called them right away. The next day, they sent a contractor, Bay Mechanical. They're good and conscientious.
They sent out a gentleman to look at the unit and he said, "You need to have this whole unit replaced." Initially, it got okay to adjust the top section. It took 45 days before the bottom line was completed. Had it not been for Daryl from social media department, the job won't get done. They did get it done but they procrastinated. It's fixed but I have all this residual damage, my floor is buckled and my homeowners may not cover it. It's a substantial repair and a health hazard since I'm disabled with breathing issues. They could have done a lot better than what they did. I think they should have stood up and offered to pay the repairs of damage because in part, they were responsible. They were somewhat complacent in it. And the 90-degree weather, we had a very hot summer down here, especially towards the end and not much rain. I'm not happy
The humidity is what did it. If the air conditioner was dry, there was no problem because there's really not much condensation. Even though they were leaking, the coils weren't quite as bad but still leak to the point where I was putting down like 3 bath towels to collect the water everyday. And in the afternoon, I check in and they're completely sopping wet. This is ice-cold water so I know where it's coming from. Cant go without air. They finally did but they first ordered the wrong unit. They ordered an upflow unit which is designed for something that goes in the basement. Now, I needed a downflow because this is a single oval house.
Sunny, the person that works in purchasing sucks. She doesn't know what she's doing. She was trying to order parts from vendors that don't participate with American Home Shield. We had the contractors offering to drive 50 or 60 miles to go get parts to get this job completed. They felt so badly for us. That's why I say Bay Mechanical is awesome. The best part of the experience was them. Because they steered me right the whole way. And then I think they helped get it done quicker than it might have otherwise gotten done.
The value of my house is going down as a result of this according to the person that works for a restoration company. I'm disabled and my wife is having surgery next week. This is not good. I'm really left in a bind because of this. Quite frankly, I'm lost and they're complacent in this. This is how I feel. I'm kind of angry at them right now. There's been other people that had similar experiences and they're not the only company that does this. A lot of people think these home repair things are scams. Its an evil necessity. If I had to go and pay out of pocket to get this replaced, it might have been maybe $6,000 to get the central air unit replaced. The damages that this cost pretty much equal to that whole unit. I don't have anywhere to turn for that. And I'm hoping my homeowners will come through and do the right thing. I'm waiting to see an adjuster.
My contract expires in 4 days and I didn't renew. They got to the point where they offered to pay my service fee for the job. Well, $75 isn't gonna make me do cartwheels. Pay for this expense for all the repairs of my house, which they have disclaimers in the fine print. They pretty much disclaim anything. Heed the warning. I'm not saying it's bad for everybody. You might have better luck. They don't have a lot of contractors in this area that work with them so we were limited. But Bay Mechanical is a pretty big name. They did all the air conditioning work on the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, which is a huge job. I would totally recommend them if you're lucky enough to get them. Their hands are tied too. They're willing to do the labor. They had guys waiting there with no work, waiting on Home Shield. And mine wasn't the only case.

Martin Appliances out of Nashville called back right away, made an appointment to come out and they were here exactly when they said they would be and fixed everything. They had to order one part for my stove but as soon as that was in, they came right back out. The technician did a tremendous job. He was very thorough, efficient, personable and nice. He's been here before and he had done an excellent job.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator's icemaker went very quickly. Shortly after I called them I got a callback that somebody was gonna call me to schedule an appointment, and somebody did call right away. The contractor came out and repaired it. The gentleman kept me filled in on what was going on with the icemaker and showed me the part that was messed up. I appreciated that because I understood what was wrong with it. Also, he was very polite. It was a very good experience and my fridge has been working perfectly since the repair.

I have tried multiple times to speak to someone about my contract which I have had for 2 years and never used. I no longer want the service but this company will not let me speak to someone who can take care of this issue. I have called 4 times and sent emails and still no one will communicate with me. Either they tell me they will return my call within 24 hours or they just provide an automated messages saying they are too busy to take my call and then hang up. My only option is to cancel the card they are charging which is an inconvenience but what choice do I have? I thought this would be a helpful tool for a rental property but I see it's just a scam. I will never use them again nor will I ever recommend them to anyone I know. FRUSTRATED!

It was definitely an excellent experience we had with American Home Shield and especially with their customer service. The American Home Shield reps returned my calls promptly and dealing with their contractors overall was excellent too. I had no concerns at all and I'm very satisfied. In our most recent claim with them, it was the AC unit not working properly. Everybody was very helpful and it was very easy to submit the claim. The service of the contractor who was sent out was very good and the installation went well. My AC's performance since the repair has been fine and I haven't had any issues. Every homeowner should have American Home Shield.

AHS is a rip-off scam company. I had an issue with my old heating and leaking ducting system. I called AHS, reported the problem and was told that my heating and ducting system issues would be covered. I was very adamant in my questioning of the AHS agent about coverage of my system and I was assured that I would have coverage for "Leaking heating ducting".
Their first assigned technician, "Rick's Heating" never contacted me even though I called them personally and left them all my information. The 2nd technician "AMPKO Heating and AC" came out 10 days after my initial call to AHS. The technician saw the failed and leaking ducting areas during his inspection. This technician basically told me because my aged system had not totally failed and my leaky ducting was not apart and falling from the hangers, that HS would most likely not cover anything.
I heard nothing from AMPKO Heating about their inspection and I called AHS to check on the status of my claim. I was told by the AHS agent the AMPKO technician had put in his report that I was remodeling my house and that he found no issues. I was remodeling my upstairs bathroom!! What does that have to do with my heating system!!! I contacted PG&E to inspect my heating system after the AHS contractors inspection said there was nothing wrong. PG&E arrived and "red Tagged" my heating system. I honestly think that AHS rewards their contractors to avoid any report that will necessitate repair. AHS has since sent me a service fee invoice for AMPKO on top of this for something that their agent knew they wouldn't cover. I would also like to add that the AHS agents that take your phone call are all ignorant and rude. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AHS for your home warranty!!!

Our air conditioner went out and American Home Shield came and did a kind of a patch-up job to get it running again but this time it failed for good and we needed a new coil in the attic. So they came and did it and it's been fine ever since. This happened just before we were leaving the country on vacation so we had to have a neighbor come and sit on it while they fix it. But it was done fine. We had no problems getting the person scheduled to come here and then to come back and complete the repair once they got all the parts. Their contractor were very good about getting it fixed as soon as they possibly could. The house is actually more comfortable than it's been since I moved here. So it evidently needed fixing. I would recommend them to everybody I know and the air conditioning people were very good too. So I would recommend them as well.

I recently filed an online claim with American Home Shield for my disposal and it was easy. The contractors they sent were excellent. They were running late, but they kept me informed. The performance has been perfect since the repair. Also, I'd like to highlight something that I was unhappy about, but not for the recent one. Our air conditioner went out during the summer and it was very hot. The contractor was sketchy, and my first dealings with the person was not a very good one. He was not sure when they'll come. I called back and said I need a time so I can take off from work, but he said he's not sure. I went ahead and called the person who I used to use through AHS who serviced our air conditioner every year for a maintenance. They came out, fixed it and they charged me $60. I get that they won't pay premium rates for someone to come on the weekend.
We've been AHS customers since we've lived in the house for 16 years, and when our air conditioner went out when we first moved in, they put us up in a hotel at that time for one night. It was over 96 degrees and the contract says that they would pay for a hotel if it was a certain degree over, which was wonderful. We only used it for one night and it was great. I should have read my policy better as years have gone through. I wish AHS would go back to their program that if it's over a certain degree which can be verified through the National Weather Service - they will pay up to $90 a night until the air conditioner technicians could come to the house.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the AC. It was a really good experience because they responded within 24 hours of the call. I already had a repair guy here who fixed the problem right at the 24-hour mark. He was excellent and the ac has been working great. However, all my other previous experiences haven't been so good because of the long periods of time or them sending a technician that wasn't qualified. I had that issue last year with the AC. They sent 2 guys out of Copperas Cove, Texas, and they weren't so cool. They came here but didn't fix the problem. Then it took another week to get them back over here. By that time, I ended up calling a manager at American Home Shield.
I'm satisfied with AHS but when it comes to customer service, they do not answer the phone. In order to get with the customer service supervisor, I had to call a supervisor from sales and it wasn't even 30 seconds before they picked up. I told them to get me with an associate in the customer service department. Once that happened, I had the supervisor handle it and they fixed the problem. We customers comply by paying the monthly premiums as agreed so customer service needs to be forthcoming and answer their phones especially when it comes to cooling or heating. That affects the quality of life especially if someone lives in Texas.

We called and tried to get a hold of the contractor, but we couldn't leave a message with his voice mail. The American Home Shield rep tried to get a hold of the contractor, but he was busy with other customers. So we couldn't get service on a Saturday when the problem had occurred on Thursday.
The contractor sent by American Home Shield had to go in and fix the freezer side, plus the rack underneath for the water. He was very good and knew exactly what the problem was. Been a customer of American Home Shield for almost 20 years. Many disputes over their making repairs, but usually they came through with satisfactory results - after the fight! Last week, instead of requesting a repair online, I telephoned the request so that I could make sure the item was covered under my policy (had an exterior leaky faucet). I was not allowed to talk to a "live person", but explained in detail what the problem was. The next thing I know, there was a call from a plumber who said he was in the area and would be by in 30 minutes. I told him what the problem was.
When he arrived, he looked at the faucet and said he would have to call the company to make sure it was covered. That alarmed me as I could not understand why they were here if it was not covered. He said that was what they did and if it was not covered, I would still owe the $75 fee. He called the company and came to the door and said it was not covered, but that he could fix it for $295. I slammed the door in his face and called the company and cancelled my membership. This is a terrible scam from a company I have recommended to hundreds of people in the past (I was a top producing realtor for over 30 years and made a practice of giving a membership to AHS as a gift to new homeowner). I had a bit of trouble with my air conditioning and they called me immediately, first thing the next morning, and got everything done very quickly and well. It has been fine since the repair. I was asked, "Why did you choose Home Shield?" My answer was because everything is old in this place that I just bought. I can't expect things to last forever but if AHS can hold it together to last a few more months, that'll be fine with me until they have to be replaced. I don't have great expectations but it's still working very well.

My washing machine went out and couldn't be repaired so AHS gave me another one. In the 10 years that I've had their policy, the only problem I've ever had was when my dryer was not working and AHS sent out a repairman from Sears who said he wasn't licensed so he could not touch the machine, but I still paid $85. He gave me some suggestions what I could do, but it's something that I did, not him. However, I wouldn't have known unless he came, so I'm truly satisfied. A year ago, AHS sent out a gas company and they found out that my furnace was emitting bad air so I had to get a new furnace. AHS was Johnny-on-the-spot, somebody came out and put one in right away. I wouldn't have AHS if I wasn't satisfied with their service.

American Home Shield has an easy claims submission. Anytime that my husband had to call over anything, it's never been an issue. Someone always responds. Someone comes the next day, and if that's not possible, then as soon as possible they come. And people that have represented Home Shield, like the plumbers, are always very considerate, very polite. Recently, our hot water tank went out. It was just the flame thing that went out, and it was back up and going within minutes. They don't sit and dally around like some people do. They come in, do their job, and go. I'd highly recommend American Home Shield as they do efficient and outstanding work.

The last time I called AHS during the summer when our air conditioning unit wasn't working, I was on hold for 45 minutes. No one ever came to the phone so I got off the phone and put my claim in on the computer. I got a quick response online but I didn't like the idea of holding for 45 minutes. I prefer using the telephone as opposed to doing it by computer and a lot of times I don't have access to a computer. Everything else was excellent including the performance of the air conditioner since the repair. The service was great.

After that, the contractors they send show up, do the work and then leave. They're professionals who fix whatever's broken. We've never had any bad experiences so far. In fact, the most recent claim I had with them has been good.

I called American Home Shield recently about my pool plumbing and their claims process was extremely easy. Their technician called me back within an hour and got out of here the same day. By the end of the week, it was taken care of. I've also spoken to one AHS representative about my previous policy and that was because the technicians weren't getting my trash compactor fixed. As soon as I got in touch with an AHS representative, I had a specialist that took care of it and it was taken care of and done within two weeks. They got me a new one. Everything was very good. I recommend American Home Shield all the time to anybody I know that has any problem with anything. I have nothing but good experience with them. I was with them for the first year that I moved here and I renewed with them, and now I'm moving again once I get my place built and after the initial warranty is over, I'm definitely calling back.

I called American Home Shield because we were having trouble with the air conditioning unit. I told them I was having problems. I requested service and they immediately told me they would contact someone and that they would get back in touch with me. In just a couple of hours, D&G called me and scheduled an appointment for somebody to come by. He came by the very next day and was very professional. On the day of the appointment they called before they came to the house to let me know that they were on their way. He came in, looked at it, discovered what the problem was and took care of it. He told me that the service visit was good for 30 days and said if I have any additional problems with it within that time, that there would be no additional service fee. My unit has been fine since the repair. It was a very good experience.

I had a problem with some of my pool equipment. I called in a service request with American Home Shield and it was fulfilled by Summit Pool. They came out initially and did an evaluation as to what needed to be done. They determined that a multiport was defective, but they didn't have it on their truck. It would have to be ordered which would take a number of days and they told me approximately how long it would be.
We made a tentative appointment, they said that they would coordinate with their scheduler to firm up the appointment date and they collected the $75 service fee which is what's under my contract. They were very professional. They called me in advance to coordinate the schedule and they sent me an email. I got everything with a confirmation number and points of contact. They followed up with the service appointment, gave me an estimate and what was going to be done and the work was done per the schedule that we set up. They were on time, cleaned up and there wasn't any problem after the work was done. They were very courteous in both appointments and everything was all done very professionally. I would certainly use AHS and Summit Pool again. I've been very satisfied with the work they have done.

I've had a problem with the heat pump of our air conditioning. Apparently, one of the fans was either powered up in some way but it was making a high pitched noise that went on and on. AHS contacted a very helpful company for the job. Instead of jumping out here and giving me a hundred dollar bill for nothing, the contractor simply called to figure out what was going on with the heat pump. He worked the problem through. He said he'd keep a ticket open and if that hadn't resolved the problem he'd come, but no more help was needed. He was great, just like the first contractor I've had from AHS before.
The first contractor was sent for a problem with the water pump in the water well. Submitting the claim for the air conditioning was easy to do. I put the claim in, got my confirmation number, and received a phone call within a day from the guy setting up the appointment. When the contractor came out, I asked some questions about what was going on and he explained things to me. In a prior visit almost a year ago, the fan had to be replaced and I used American Home Shield for it - they came out, and did the fans. The contractor told me that during that visit a year ago, they probably should’ve taken and done the capacitor at that time also, because the two capacitors were not in sync. One was on its way out, and the other one was gone already, but they should’ve done both of them. But I can understand it, and I was satisfied with the interaction with the contractors that American Home Shield sent out. After the repair, the air conditioning is performing well, and so far, American Home Shield has met my expectations.

Normally we don't have any problems with American Home Shield; however, there was a delay in our most recent claim with them. It was about a blocked toilet. We got sidetracked for about three days and I had to give them another ring to make sure that the plumber would be notified. It turned out someone made a mistake and had forgotten to pass a message. It was a communication problem between AHS and the plumber. It might have been the plumber's fault. But that same morning that I rang, the plumber contacted us straight away within ten minutes. He drove down our house within half an hour, sorted it all out, and that was done within an hour. It's been fine since then. On the whole, though, it has been an excellent experience for us with American Home Shield.

The furnace was making a loud noise so I submitted a claim online. It was easy except for the fact that it was a repeat issue and there was nowhere to indicate that online so I ended up having to pay twice. It's an ongoing issue because the furnace part is fixed but their contractor said that there was some pipe leaking now because of what was happening with the furnace. And the plumber was gonna have to come out but I have a problem with the plumber. They sent the same plumber a few times and they do a terrible work. So I didn't want them and I can't get through to anybody else.
I called to get a refund for that double payment and American Home Shield wont give it to me. My biggest issue is not being able to speak to anyone at customer service. I called and asked for a manager and the manager took 4 days to call me back and then never left a phone number for me to get a hold of her. If I can't get a hold of a manager or somebody who's in charge to explain the further circumstance of what happened, I don't think it's worth it. They double charge me and then they want to have another charge for the plumber to come out. I'm not gonna pay $300 for something that's supposed to be covered by my warranty. So, at this point, seeing that I'm gonna have to double pay for it and I don't seem to be able to get my money back, I would not recommend them to anyone at all.
Hello Rebecca, I appreciate the time you have taken to make us aware of this experience. Our records indicate that a HVAC company has came out and did work on your unit and did request that a plumber needs to come to your home. The contract does state there is a service fee per trade, since the plumbing is a seperate issue/trade than the HVAC there would be an additional service fee. I do understand the frustration with this and if you are still in need of assistance please let me know. Thanks! ^CW

The problems that we have experienced with American Home Shield are a little bit prohibiting. One, its extremely hard to get through to somebody. If we want to cancel an appointment because something came up or we wont be physically present at the time that the service man has sent out, there's no way. It takes 45 minutes, sometimes they put you on hold. We've been on hold for a very long time and there's no way to cancel or adjust an appointment once its been cancelled. They're somewhat responsive online to file a complaint but if anything else needs to be addressed about it, you need to speak to a person that's extremely difficult to get through. That's the most significant thing that we've been experiencing.
The second thing that we've experienced is that one service person that we've experienced so far has said that they were licensed to work on something so we requested to American Home Shield that they don't send that service person. And that service person contacted us personally and there was little bit of harassment. That service person is related to another service person that they tried to send us. So it got to be like very uncomfortable situation in our home. And then, to say that we didn't want that person to come to our house was a very big deal.
They shouldn't have done that. It is dangerous in our part. They know where we live. They know the information. We felt that was really not ethical for them to do that. And then the people that we said we didn't want to come, filed the bill saying that they came for a service call which they did not. So, that was disputed. But they won. We ended up having to pay for them. Cause we had another issue and they wouldnt send another person out to fix another issue without that getting paid. It showed up as a balance. So we paid it.
With regards to the repairs, everybody else that they have sent has come promptly and we do benefit from having American Home Shield. We want to absolutely continue the service and we think its a wonderful thing. The problems are quite frustrating and I hope that American Home Shield can work through some of that. Whether they hire more operators or just a little, but should be more careful about some of the complaints. Or even put a place to file the complaints on the website, that might be a little more interactive. We have recommended them to a lot of people. Just hoping they could straighten out the communication issue cause I know several people have had that same problem.

I had a problem with my furnace under the house so American Home Shield sent a company and the guy crawled under there and came out with more excuses than a pregnant nun. “Oh, it’s flooded.” “Oh, your duct lines have been knocked down.” That doesn’t have anything to do with anything but that’s what they said. “We’ve got to send another guy.” So another guy came down, said they have to order a part and disappeared. Then came the third guy, and said “Oh my god, it’s flooded and it’s all terrible. I can’t work.” So I called them up and I told them and they sent a guy down from Oxford. Oddly enough, the company that finally got the furnace running asked me if one of the companies was named Oxford and I said yes. He said, “We’ve always heard they’re pretty bad.”
In the meantime, I had got the duct lines flipped back on. I’d had it checked for water and there wasn’t any. It was dry under there. And this guy pokes his head under there came out and told me, “To tell you the truth, sir. You’re going to have to put a lining in there on the dirt floor.” I expected him to request fluorescent lighting and an air conditioning unit however I got fed up with all of this. To get the duct lines put on it cost me 400 bucks. I had some pipe tore out of there just in case it was leaking and replaced that and it cost me about $200. I used to be a chief engineer for Courtyard and Holiday Inn so I called them. And they come under and got the heater running and that cost me another $250. In other words, American Home Shield did nothing.
Moreover, I had billing problems with AHS. Why all of a sudden, “I cannot take it no longer out of your bank account.” So I sent them a check and I can see on my computer it’s been taken out of my bank account. Then I got a paper bill in the mail about a week later for the same thing. So I send them an email letter and I said “What are you doing? Which is it?” And I’ve never gotten a reply. Now that was just lately. In the past I haven’t had that much problem with them.
I always had a bit of a suspicion about the people they send down. There’s this time when my stovetop needed gas and replacing. They came in, the guy said, “Oh the pan underneath is all rotted out. We won’t replace it because of that.” “My god, do you mean while boiling water it overflowed and went into the pan underneath like it’s supposed to and that got rusty? Oh, horrors. Let’s not have that happen.” I had to pay for it myself. But I go ahead and keep hoping for the best. I’m not really thrilled to death with AHS’s service lately. I’m going to get rid of them. Just one more time I call for something and I get that kind of stuff where it ends up costing me 800 bucks out of my own pocket. Because every time they send this clown I’ve got to give them 75 bucks.

My latest claim with American Home Shield hasn't been fixed yet. I had to postpone one time and yesterday, it was difficult for them to get someone out at the only time I could be home to get the job done. They said they were going to come by today instead. I have some further concerns with my air conditioning system. That job went on for maybe 2 weeks and I thought AHS could have done more to promote urgency to get this job done. The guy that came out was okay, but he came out one time with the wrong equipment and AHS had to give me another appointment. It wasn't pleasant.
I also think the copay is too high. I spent two to three hundred dollars beyond the copay for the air conditioning system service call. I had to pay for the Freon - they paid me the first $10 and then we pay everything else and they were charging me about $70 a pound as well. I think that's putting too much on the customer and AHS needs to take on more. They charge too much and they don't give the time and customer support needed to be received by the customer. I also think that if the contractor's not doing what they're supposed to be doing, AHS should be able to call them and tell them to get on the job. But in my experience, what I got was that contractors have other customers. I don't pay AHS for that, I pay them to get me someone to get the job done expeditiously, especially if it has something to do with the air conditioning and the temperature is about 300 degrees.
I tried to reflect on what do I really have in American Home Shield. I pay $50 every month and hardly ever use their services. Then when the contractors come out, I got to pay another $70-75 even when sometimes I don't get good service. I'm sort of cool on American Home Shield at this point. If I could find someone better, I'd probably drop it.
