My employer unfortunately switched our dental insurance over to Aetna. My daughter had to get braces not wanted, had to. Delta Dental started the process, paid what they had to. My employer switched to Aetna the next year. Aetna not paying for my child’s braces because it was an ongoing treatment. Aetna probably did not mention this when my employer switched over to them. I am stuck with a 700 bill that’s left over on my child’s over 5k braces bill. I also NEVER received a denial of this claim. I will be trying my best to see if my employer can get us back with Delta Dental a company that cares about their customers and their families.

I have Aetna as my dental insurance. I find trying to get through to a customer service representative is a nightmare!!! The whole thing is outsourced to the Philippines and the majority of these representatives are untrained, rude, or not fluent in English. I am constantly transferred, hung up on, or given incorrect information. Shame on this insurance company for trying to cut costs by outsourcing. In fact, it takes twice as many calls to get the issue resolved. I dread calling to resolve claims.

Aetna Dental has plan **. Aetna Medicare Value Plan (HMO) **. They brag about having the Largest in Network dentist for your selection. True. My Area within 5 miles there are less than 1.000 dentist in my network but NONE are in my plan. I call Customer service and they say they can find 1,000's. I tell them to call them. Call any and provide me with a Dentist. They put my on hold say they have to or they will get another call when I hang up. So I stay on the phone and some are 8 hours long and some say they are through with shift and call me tomorrow after 10Am and they do. 5 or more call and 5 or more different Call associates say the same thing. They can not find me a dentist. WHY... WHY??? I paid for this and getting nothing. it will be 11 day this Monday Dec 12, 2022 and no dentist and a sore tooth.
One associate I could not make out ONE Word she was saying and she got me a English Specialist to come the phone to translate English better. He was Indian speaking perfect English. 2 more were very difficult to understand long sentences of them. Every one wanted to prove they could find me a Dentist. ALL FAILED. How is it they have a Plan that they (CEO) ugh approved to roll out with out checking they had Dentist available and a Way to search for a Dentist that takes my plan.
I spent 8 hours filling our forms from dentist that said they take Aetna but when Appointment came up? They called and said Aetna said they would not cover it. They were Out Of Network. But Aetna's list says all these Dentist are in Network. 5 days of CC calling and they are calling from the same way. Top to bottom. One CC said the lady on hold said she had received Several calls from Aetna. They are calling the same dentist over and over just different CC. I file a grievance and she tried to get off the phone with my for Cussing at their Company. Then Tried to dump me when I said I DO NOT WANT TO STAY ON THE PHONE ANOTHER 8 HOURS while you idiots call and fail once again. She said they need to call a few dentist or she would not do the Grievance. I said DO what you got to do to complete the GD grievance you are trying to control and not complete. I am beyond cussing. I am BOILING mad.
WHERE Mis the Dentist. Where is the Grievance People you said would be calling. I have no confidence she even did a Grievance. Grievance # **. I am feeling like Why is it I seem to be the Only and first person to bring this to Aetna's Attention. Are the CC Associate scamming America with their offshore CC that we can not understand them at all acting like there is plenty of Dentist while they Know there is not. I Am over 65 and this is Medicare INS. They need to be Removed from choice to be Seniors insurance choice. And DO NOT EVER Choose AETNA Ever. They are scammer. I had to have a tooth replaced due to a root canal issue from over 20 yrs ago. I started the process at one job with Delta dental (these guys were great). Anyway, opportunity came about for a job I couldn’t pass up. Their insurance is Aetna, and the periodontist is out of network. No biggie. I pay upfront and get reimbursed about 1/2 of what I pay. I accepted it. Went through several sessions to prepare for the titanium screw post. Anyway they put the post in and turn in my claim after I pay over $2100 out of pocket. Aetna denies the claim. Missing tooth clause they say. Because the tooth was already missing when I acquired the insurance. So if you’re already missing teeth and you decide to replace them, I wouldn’t recommend them. I’m dreading what they will charge me when I get the tooth put in.

As an employee, I have no choice in my dental insurance provider. And, the coverage available to me through Aetna is very minimal. My husband is a cancer survivor and radiation to his head years ago have left his teeth in bad shape so I thought that any coverage would be helpful. However, my experience with Aetna is horrible and my dentist will no longer treat us unless we pay up front and we deal with Aetna because they hate Aetna too.
Aetna finds any random excuse to deny coverage. I hate calling them to discuss claims because the reps are in the Philippines and talk like robots.... Not empathetic to the issue at hand but just reading notes and rules, regardless of how ridiculous they are. And you never get to speak to the decision-makers because that isn't allowed. You think you are getting coverage as described in their documents but you aren't. It is a joke. Extremely, extremely frustrating and time-consuming dealing with them. Go elsewhere if possible.

I just wanted to make an appointment for a basic check up and a cleaning. Nothing more. This has been a traumatic incident. First, a dentist that had been badgering me with texts, calls and emails for months for an appointment, tells me they don't accept my insurance after I showed up for the appointment. A complete waste of time. I call 3 more dentists in my area and nobody accepts the insurance. I finally find a dentist that does accept this insurance and they tell me I have to call the insurance and get assigned to that particular dentist.
I call and get transferred from one number to the next, given this number to call, then that number to call, JUST TO MAKE A BASIC DENTAL APPOINTMENT! I started this journey at 930am. It is now noon and I'm no closer, still on hold, to being able JUST TO BE ASSIGNED A DENTIST, so I can then call the dentist to actually set the appointment. Dental insurance usually pays for two checkup/cleanings a year, and Aetna promises the same. About 15 years ago, I had to have periodontal (gum) surgery in which they grafted gum tissue from the roof of my mouth down to my bottom, front teeth. Ever since then, I take one of the two checkup/cleanings at my periodontist and one at my regular dentist. They each do the same thing. They clean and check my teeth for problems. The only difference is that they both also measure my gums for shrinkage.
My dental insurance has always paid for these visits as one of my regular free checkup/cleanings. There has never been a problem ever since -- until now. Even though it too promises two checkup/cleanings a year, Aetna dental insurance wants me to pay a $100 deductible, having decided that a "periodontal checkup" is not the same thing as a free "prophy checkup." Why? So they can weasel their way out of paying for the checkup/cleaning I need. I called Aetna, but they stand by their unjust reading of their magical coding policy while charging an exorbitant $60 a month fee to the customer and providing nada.

I have messaged their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/aetna/) and emailed them (socialmediacustomerservice@aetna.com). Alyssha claims to have sent me three different response emails but all I received was a link (http://www.aetna.com/aboutaetna/safeguard_data.htm) which prompts me to login then takes me to the main page and provides no information. I get that insurance companies deny claims hoping that people get frustrated and go away as I worked for one - but 14 times it should be pretty clear that I was not going away. This company is a joke, truly the state insurance oversight agencies should fine them or not allow them to operate. This required several phone calls with Aetna to establish the fact that they are the primary insurance company. But....once that was solved, Aetna then informed me that the services were performed before the policy was in effect. I have had Aetna Dental for 17 years and have seen a steady decline in their responsiveness and customer service. The most recent example involves a claim for a chipped tooth and crown, routine procedures by any measure. Aetna has repeatedly asked for information, which has been provided multiple times. And each step then involves a follow up “next requirement”. One customer service rep just asked for information I provided 6 months ago—she was the rep I provided the information to via their secure messaging system. My dentist’s office always sighs when I remind them who my provider is...a sign I should have heeded. I am typically loyal to companies and am usually reluctant to jump ship. I would give Zero stars if it was an option. Our family pays full premium for our primary dental through my military retirement with Delta Dental. We opted to take Aetna Dental as a secondary through my husband's job to pick up what Delta doesn’t cover. After paying them hundreds in premiums, I used Aetna for the first time on a dental crown, they only paid $37 for my crown leaving us with a $450+ dental bill. They told me if they were our primary, or if we didn’t have any other insurance, they would have covered the whole amount of the crown less a $50 deductible. What’s the point of paying full premium for a secondary insurance if they only pay out a small portion of the cost that didn’t even come close to meeting their maximum payment for the procedure? Absolute waste of money to have them as secondary! Canceling our policy with Aetna immediately.

I have been with Aetna Dental for 2 years. While Aetna tries hard not to pay any portion of my periodontal cleanings, they have been paying their little piddly $30 for my cleanings (every 4 months) while I pay the $95 balance. Keep in mind, periodontal scaling is fairly pricey and is needed at least 3X per year depending on the patient. The amount is not the issue though. After paying their piddly amount for almost 2 years, Aetna decides to decline payment on all future visits stating they have no history of periodontal problems. Not only do they have my dental records showing my history, including previous surgeries, they would never have paid anything for almost 2 years if they didn't have it, right? And I just now (January) got their declination for my August cleaning and December cleaning.
They tried this before but when I called them, they said "sorry we must have made a mistake." Now they do this again? That's not a mistake. It's about as intentional as you get. My employer is one of the country's largest insurance companies, and Aetna makes a lot of money having such a large company as a policyholder. Although we don't deal with health insurance products, we would never treat claimants the way they do, and they should still be ashamed of themselves for even attempting their sleazy tactics with us. I can't wait until I can pull out of Aetna and join another carrier.

Her face dropped, through conversation I learned that their experience was that it doesn't cover much. So after I saw the dentist my bill was $119.00. Aetna covered all of $11.00. Their website shows a savings on average of 50%. So then for information I asked what a root canal on a bicuspid would be. My dentist's fee is $804.00, Aetna would cover all of $22.00!!! Thanks for the deceit Aetna! Not what they sold me on. I doubt they will care when I call to complain but I will be. I am also calling the Oregon Insurance board. I know Aetna will say "oh it's the area you live in etc". They will have all the excuses in the world. Very, very upset and disappointed. Aetna stinks. Don't use them!
