Aetna is the worst dental insurance I have ever had. They deny claims constantly. I got major dental work completed. They were supposed to cover almost $1000 according EOB. I asked for a preauthorization. Instead as they did an EOB that said they would cover that. Yet the claim was denied due to a $50 deductible. Had that been explained I would have waited on the major service. Also last year they denied paying for a cleaning saying I had too many during the year. However they did not pay for the extra one I had either so they should have paid for my regular scheduled one. Aetna is cheap. Won’t pay claims. And has terrible customer service. I have begged my employer to offer a better insurance option. I have spent thousands on dental care due to Aetna's refusal to pay claims.

I have an Aetna medicare advantage plan that says you will get $750 a year in dental coverage. Don’t believe it. They will always find a way to deny the claim or say that the dental office didn’t submit the claim “properly”. Total scam. Customer service just flat out lies to you. Go elsewhere. Totally useless.

You call to get a list of providers that accept their insurance and they email you an outdated list. They’re unable to get in touch with the same list of providers they send you then turn around and ask you for the phone number as if it isn’t their responsibility to have proper contact information for the customers to be able to effectively use the insurance they’re paying for. I do not recommend.

I Have never in my life been treated so poorly, me and my wife both pay premiums for Aetna Dental Insurance thru our different employers so I am double covered, went and got 2 implants to replace some missing teeth and they denied my claims and appeals saying that I could get a denture instead, that it would be cheaper, and after my dentist submitted all the info as to why we went this route they still denied my claim. I have more teeth missing behind the 2 teeth that we were replacing.

I'm now on my 3rd appeals process that will go to my company's corporation offices then the final option will be to hire a lawyer and sue them, Aetna is the worst insurance I have ever had by far and I hope corporate drops them and goes with someone better. The coverage states they pay 50% on implants, they have refused to pay there part. And refused to pay for the bone grafts on the teeth we pulled to preserve my jaw bone so I could put in the implants. If you're looking at getting dental insurance stay away from Aetna!!

Hello Aetna, I had Wellcare Insurance in 2024 and Wellcare did not cover the dental I needed nor did they have any participating doctors in my area. Sorry, but I have a BIG Complaint! I signed up for Aetna coverage in January of 2025. I switched to Aetna Medicare strictly because I needed dental care coverage. The representative that signed me up was well aware that I needed 4 cavities filled and 3 crowns replaced in my mouth. I was told that I would have to pay $40 a monthly for dental coverage. I was told that 50% of my crowns would be covered- either in or out of network. I was told I would get an allowance that would cover my fillings/xrays and cleanings were free. So I agreed.

I did not get a bill for $40 for coverage?? What I got in the mail was a bill from my dentist telling me that I owe $695 for the dates of 1/13/25 for 1 Filling /Xray and another bill on 2.21.25 for a filling for $640. A total of $1335??? I almost fell over! Aetna denied it ALL! I called Aetna 4 times to complain and each time I called I got a different answer? One person said that I only owed $139 another person said I only owed half and another said I need to put in a claim because my policy wasn't correct? The fourth time I called I was told to submit a claim and so I did. I am so unhappy and want to cancel this policy. I'm very disappointed in the service and I want to cancel my insurance if this is not resolved. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cecile

Beware when choosing Aetna continental insurance (Dental) because they will charge you an entire year or more and you will never receive ID cards, or information about your plan, and will not cancel when you request. They will also charge you when a New Year starts, not knowing if you are happy with the service or if you have switched providers, and you will still not get a new ID for that year, but you will be charged monthly. They are the worst! They just charging you and you don't have any info on what you purchase, just a receipt. Don't do it!

I needed upper dentures and a partial bottom plate. I was already concerned about Aetna because their dental benefits went from 3000.00 in 2024 to 1500.00 in 2025. When I tried to get my dentures, the dentist said that Aetna would not cover them. I called Aetna and they said I did have dental benefits, but if I wanted to get dentures, it would have to be for medical reasons. I asked the representative to explain what type of medical reasons would fall under getting dentures, she couldn’t answer. I told her I would contact someone at Aetna and she said they do not take calls from their clients. This insurance sucks and I will not use Aetna any longer. I suggest before you use them, get all of the details beforehand. I discovered that they do not have vision benefits either.

Aetna has been my dental insurance through my employer for over 12 years. I recently decided to schedule a check-up and cleaning since I haven't had one for over 7 years and have been paying the monthly premium. However, since my former dentist does not accept Aetna, I was advised to use an in-network provider. Unfortunately, my experience with the recommended provider has been highly disappointing.

In May 2024, I underwent dental work with an in-network provider and later discovered that their charges significantly exceeded those of my former out-of-network dentist. Additionally, I recently learned that Expert Dental, one of Aetna’s in-network providers, has a history of overbilling patients, including billing for services already paid for out-of-pocket and they often double the cost of out-of-network providers.

To make matters worse, the dental work performed by Expert Dental was substandard and caused damage to my teeth. Despite numerous attempts to resolve these issues with Aetna over the past six months, no resolution has been provided and Expert Dental sent another bill to be just before the holiday again. This situation highlights a troubling focus on profit by both Aetna and the dental office, rather than prioritizing patient care and satisfaction. I am extremely frustrated and feel that patients like me are being taken advantage of.

Absolutely terrible insurance company. They provided me with a list of 25 'in-network' dentists and none of them actually take the insurance plan I'm on. In fact I can't find a single dentist in LA that takes this insurance. It's basically worthless. They're only allowed to call 3 providers for you and that's it. They won't help beyond that. It's pretty mind blowing as I'm in extreme pain.

I used to have Delta Dental, and they were great. Lots of HIGH QUALITY dentists in their network. Got a job (at a cheap company--a CT-based insurance company that doesn't pay squat for any employee benefits--and they have Aetna as their dental provider. The BEST endodontist and dentist that I used to use are not in Aetna's network. Ok. Fine. There are myriad qualified dentists in my area. Yet...after I start my search...not ONE is in my network. They have these half-**, unqualified, low-educated idiots in their network. AND..the ones that ARE in their network (because they are SO BAD and INCOMPETENT that they can't get a lot of patients because of their horrible reputations) tell you you need tons of root canals and work that you don't need. How do I know this? I had one dentist tell me I needed six filling and three root canals. This was an Aetna dentist.

Went to another dentist NOT in the network for a second opinion, and he said I didn't need a single one. SO...HEY, YOU IDIOTS AT AETNA...You think you are saving so much money by only have cheap, unqualified dentists in your network. YET...they are GOUGING you (and your patients) for work that is not needed. HERE'S A THOUGHT: Maybe just allow the GOOD, HIGHLY-QUALIFIED, WELL-EDUCATED dentists into your network and PROVIDE HIGH REIMBURSEMENTS. That way, you will get dentists who don't feel the need to gouge patients with work that doesn't need to be done. YOU ARE PENNY WISE AND POUND FOOLISH.

I have had this dental insurance for a year now. Due to a contract you are not allowed to have a dentist more than an hour away from you your zip code. My children live up by the UP. I live down in the lower part of Michigan. I have had nothing but problems with this insurance company. One you do not get cards. That makes it very hard when you have children that are not in your same household. Two this company will send you a list of dentists knowing they do not accept new patients so then when you go and take your child or yourself to that doctor's appointment this insurance does not want to cover the appointment even though they sent you a list of doctors and you used one of their providers. Not a lot of dentist take this insurance. Make sure you do your homework before you purchase this insurance through your company you work for. I've had nothing but issues with this insurance due to the fact my children do not live in the same household as me.

This company is not helpful when it comes to calling and asking for a Insurance card. Everything is done online which makes it super hard when you do not have your children living in the same household. Then when you go to try to call the company and tell them you need a dentist they try telling you you are not allowed to have a dentist more than an hour from your zip code even though my children live 2 and a half hours North from me. So they expect my children to come all the way down state to see a freaking dentist.

Please do your research wisely about this insurance company. Or else you're gonna be paying all this money for a year and you can't use your insurance. Make sure you read your contract with this insurance company. They have hidden clause in their contracts. I am super disappointed in this dental insurance. It's super expensive and it's been nothing but a pain in my **. I will be changing it next year. Oh yes we cannot forget about when you call their number to talk to somebody you can't even understand the people you talk to because I believe they're from another country. Meanwhile you have to talk to a supervisor just to get things taken care of. So please do your research before you get this insurance.

I paid it before the procedure was started. I had to go in 2 weeks later for my stitches to be removed and the dental office said Aetna only covered $21.60. I had to pay 800 and some dollars to cover the bill, which I did. I called Aetna right after and asked for an explanation why and the only thing the lady told me was that I was out of network. I said no I wasn’t and asked her to explain further and said that’s all it says. So I asked what came I do? Can I appeal? She said no. Aetna dental retiree PPO. Used to Blue Cross. The best but district switched. Now implants aren't covered at any %! So you could get a denture, maybe a bridge but they couldn't tell me as I didn't have a CODE. State website says you can elect to have a higher service and pay the Co deduction and the difference between the covered service and the higher one you selected. Yet Aetna says no as the CODE for higher isn't accepted?! Also the crown you need they won't cover as it is used with the implant, they won't cover anything if it is used in conjunction to a non covered procedure but would cover if I had a covered procedure. WTH? So much double talk. If you'd cover the xray, bone graduate crown if on a less expensive procedure why not on a different procedure?

I pay the implant cost and Aetna should pay the % of the other (xray, bone graft, implant) and refund pay what the less expensive procedure % that I am allowed. It doesn't have any common sense, so utterly confusing and basically **. District really screwed us by switching or didn't review properly and let the people know what they were really approving/getting. Screw over your retirees, sad.
