I was looking to schedule a surgery, only to find out that the Doctor was listed in-network but the hospital was not, so I would have to cover an extreme amount in order to have the surgery. I was calling for help & had the first person on the phone promise to send info that was never sent. The 2nd sent me the plan material book for 2021. The next took my number in case of a disconnection, & never called me back. The next tried to help me fix it without showing me the problem was the limitations on the physicians for the 2 hospitals that they allowed. I finally talked one man through it on how to look it all up, because he did not know what to do.

At this point I realized that I would never do this again. I do not rate this company anything more than a 1. They might show 43 Doctors available. But in the end the choices are really no more than a few. My primary care physician does not support the few that I was given in the end. Very deceitful in the advertising & extremely poor quality help available by phone. In the end I asked for help to use the 1 Doctor who was in their plan, but out of their plan to preform the surgery, & I was told, "Mam we don’t recommend that." What a horrible experience I just endured. I have not yet had the surgery. But it clearly looks as though they will offer “No Help” to accomplish this problem. I would tell everyone, do not waste your time or money on this insurance. Respectfully yours, Kathy **.

AARP Medicare Rx. Pure unadulterated highway robbery. 2021 price increase:

** + 30%
** + 17%
** from $0 to $20

** +17%

Obviously, all my pension benefits, employers and SS, stay the same. Does anybody care?

This company searches for any loophole to deny coverage. A large portion of a tooth broke off and the dentist said a crown was needed. The denial states "Your records must show large, active decay, fractured off portion of your tooth, or defective filling." They interpret the 'or' as though it is an 'and' in order to deny. Do not use this company.

Steer clear of AARP Medicare UnitedHealthcare as they do not provide anything close to what they claim. Many false narratives regarding coverage but when you submit a claim they always deny processing. Many hidden rules and statements to get out of paying claims. Customer service is horrible. Calling for help is useless as they rarely know the answer to any questions and are unable to fix problems. Made the mistake of joining this year for the first time. As soon as open enrollment starts I am canceling this supplement. Don't get fooled in thinking they are going to support their clients!!!

The reps are all very nice but you pretty much can't get anything done. They have an automatic survey you can opt into but, when you do, it only allows a review about 20% of the time. An estimated 90% of the time you're just disconnected.

I enrolled in AARP Medicare Advantage February, 2020. I had prior coverage with my husbands company from 2011-2020 and United Health Care sent me a notice saying I was charged a late penalty fee for not having coverage. Medicare shows in their website I had coverage all along. United Health care sent a form for my husband (who retired January 3, 2020) to take to his employer to fill out stating I had coverage. After 2 long phone calls to United health care and the forms filled out and mail to them, they could not find the form. Nobody in customer service know the left hand from the right. They sent a bill for $120.00 for late penalty and I am tired of dealing with it so I paid it. When enrollment comes we will look for a better plan, meds have gone out of site for people on Social Security.

AARP United Healthcare Medicare Supplemental Plan. The UHC plan has totally failed me in the Covid-19 crisis. My care was "decent" when I lived in Northern California. I had access to good PCPs and specialists when I needed them. Now, in New Mexico, the system has failed me. They contract with the lowest-cost, worst medical providers. I'd call them incompetent. In the last three days I've spent over 10 hours trying to get prescriptions refilled. My PCP won't respond, the Amwell telemedicine doctors refused to help me, and a local urgent care clinic that takes my plan similarly was useless.

In good times UHC's customer service is awful. The reps are uniformed and usually can't help with any problems. No doubt UHC, as a profit-grubbing company, hires people with no training or basic common sense for $8 an hour for their call centers. When I've raised concerns and complaints through their messaging system, I get useless, boilerplate responses or a notice of escalation to a higher layer of management. Nothing has ever come of it. I'm dumping them for Humana at the end of the month.

DO not take out healthcare supplement insurance from this company unless you enjoy getting the run around...One of their so called CS reps actually yawned in my ear when I was trying to speak to her about my Mother's claim. My mother was in hospital for 4 days and she actually passed away on the 4th day. In settling her affairs one thing I had to do was file a claim for the days she was in hospital with AARP. It pays $30 a day for the plan she had faithfully paid for 11 yrs! I sent in the claim forms I told them in my letter to make the check payable to me her representative there was to be no probate we had settled all her affairs over the past years so not to have probate. They sent out checks to an address that my sister had lived at but no longer lived at for over a year. And the checks were made to the Estate of.

Not only did they NOT read the letter I had included with my claim form, they completely disregarded the instructions we had given them by phone. If an attentive real estate agent had not forwarded these checks given to her by the lady who bought my sister's house, we would never have known. So I called again and they sent me a form called Last Debt form to be filled in, mailed back and the checks would be resent to my name so we can deposit them in my Mom's account to help settle her last affairs. BUT not checks came. Now it is February my mom passed in NOV 2019. I call again, they don't know why the checks were not reissued...etc. So they send yet again a Last Debt form it takes 10 days to arrive. I fill in and fax on Feb 24th. It is now March 23, nothing!

So I call again today...The first agent I spoke to told me the check was reissued and sent to the (WRONG ADDRESS) again. Then I insisted to speak to someone else. She tells me no the checks were reissued to My name and mailed to my address 10 days ago...so why have I not received these checks...I can drive to GA in 5 hrs yet it takes this long for 2 checks to arrive? Do not waste your money go with a company who listens to the customers who money they are operating on!

Have been with AARP for many years with no problems, until - When moving out of State last year, we notified AARP with new contact info, and requested our insurance be transferred in total. We were told it would be done as requested. When picking up a prescription this weekend, I was told we had no Rx insurance, as the Bin # given had been cancelled - on or about the date of our move. Calling AARP today revealed that in addition to notifying AARP of the move, we should have also notified United Healthcare Rx of the move, which is contrary of my earlier conversation last year. Bottom line, I am out of luck and will have no prescription coverage until I can seek new coverage during Open Season. As our financial exposure is at risk, such coverage will of course, not be with AARP.

Very bad after 3 days and 3 hours with different answers from everyone I spoke with that my syringes are covered but the copay is about 40% more than the across the counter cost. This is after talking to three other people before talking to a supervisor for almost 30 more minutes. VERY bad customer service.

I didn’t get the right information about a insulin price TRESIBA. They told me that the price was $142.00 For 90 days supply but no one told me that I have a deductible to meet. They just want to sell me. So the price is over $600.00. So a feel like you ripped me off, I might have to go to social media to explain so some other people. Don’t get ripped off.

This is the worse possible insurance company for seniors. This company pays for nothing. They expect seniors who are retired on a limited income to pay for large in office copays, treatments, services such as X-rays, Ultrasounds, blood tests. They are awful. To make matters worse, their Customer Service is filled with inept workers who know nothing and have no power or authority to help you. Please run from this company. Do not sign up. You are better off with another insurance company. In the end if you need help they will turn their back on you with no mercy!

I was billed for 2 extra months Jan. and Feb. After I canceled during open enrollment for a different policy. They would not reimburse me for the 2 months. I tried several times to get the money. The policy didn't cover much for what it cost plus you needed an extra drug plan – more money out of pocket.

I have had AARP UHC supplemental Plan N for 12 months. I have no issues with the company in regards to covering the medical expenses as outlined by Plan N. The bills are paid in a timely manner so I have never had to get involved. My issue is they were not transparent about their pricing when I initially signed up. I signed up at 65 and paid a premium that was a little lower than average compared to the other providers. However, I was not told that I was getting a 33% early enrollment discount where the discount decreases by 3% every year. This year my premium went up 20%. I am guaranteed it will continue to go up every year even if the plan price does not increase. Do your due diligence when looking for a provider. I am currently looking for a new provider. Thank goodness I am healthy and have this option. People with poor health do not have that option.

Just called United Healthcare about a bill from 2018 that they only paid $.64 cents when my premium was around $107. a month. They kept telling me I had a co-pay that needed to be paid, so I owe $20.00 with a N Plan. I kept telling them I have never paid a co pay with Medicare and Supplemental AARP Insurance, being I had been seen by the orthopedic surgeon next door and he said both insurances would cancel each other out. I no longer have AARP Supplemental Insurance because I can't afford it. Buyer Beware If You are considering this Supplemental Insurance Plan. Never gave me an upfront answer so you can't reason with hurricane season so I guess I will have to pay the one and only bill that didn't cancel itself out.

My mother was very pleased with AARP UnitedHealthcare during her Membership. However upon my mother's death and becoming executor of her estate in order to settle medical bills I called upon customer service. My only intent was to provide information so that I could obtain information in order to settle medical bills. Every time I called I was given a different fax number, different information and a different process for providing my executor paperwork. Upon asking for a manager to call me no return call was made.

Their total lack of respect for the situation that I was in upon losing my mother and trying to settle her affairs Has left me with serious doubts about Their competence and intentions. They have provided multiple incorrect fax numbers and I now have no idea where my information has been fax. Their so called attempts to protect privacy has invaded my privacy and put serious doubt at in my mind as to their intentions. Once again I have asked for a supervisor to call. They only need to listen to the recorded calls they are so fond of reminding you that you were on in order to settle this matter. Buyer beware.

Never used. Get 99.8% of my care through the VA. This Medicare Supplemental Insurance is lacking in many ways. I chose a Primary Care Physician and he was assigned to me or so I thought. So this year when I was in need of my civilian PCP I found out that my alleged PCP has NEVER been my PCP!! I might recommend this insurer to someone I dislike but not to anyone else. If you like getting correspondence like magazines with articles of "questionable value" then this is the organization for you. As I said I never used them because when I needed them it was going to be "find a new PCP to start" but I said the heck with that as I will be changing insurers in October.

The coverage is excellent. The EOB are quickly reviewed from Medicare and paid promptly. We have no worries with deductibles or co-insurance. There are none. We have added up what our out of pocket expense would be without this supplement and the plan quickly pays for itself.

Between Medicare and AARP Healthcare Suppliment “F. Thank you Last April I joined my daughter on a trip from Arizona to Oregon. On the way my legs swelled up as well as my waist. My pants did not fit. Easter 2019 I first was taken to Urgent Care, to find out I had a blood clot in my lung and A-fip on my heart and few days later I was in the hospital for a week. No bills as of now. No harassment. Thank you.

Great insurance and would be great if premiums were a bit less. When one is retired every penny counts. Also wish it would cover foot issues such as bad bunions which make it difficult to walk. Wonder why it has been 3 mos since saw Endo and payment still pending.

I'm a senior and on a very tight budget but my insurance company don't care. For the 9 years I've paid into it about $20,000 dollars used very little of it??? The insurance company has me paying over $200.00 a month. Now I'm behind in payments. This is something that should be set according people's budget.

They cover everything and premium is excellent compared to husband's BCBS. In fact premium decreased this year which is unheard of. Also their RX plan now covers my many prescriptions at no cost to me other than the monthly premium. As everyone else, I want reasonable insurance costs along with excellent coverage.

I have been with AARP United Healthcare Complete PPO for around 3 years. I had good service until around July of 2019. I called to get information on going to a dietician which my doctor wanted me to see. They said I was covered. I went to the appointment and had one follow up appointment. Then United Healthcare denied my claim for the first visit saying I don't have diabetes. They never told me I had to have diabetes. Now I have to try and file an appeal. To top everything off, yesterday and today I tried to call their customer service number on the back of my card and I got foreigners both times. Today I asked the man where he is and he said the Philippines. Their accents were very heavy and the woman yesterday would all of a sudden start babbling in some foreign language.

I tried calling a third time today and when asked by the computer what I was calling for I said I wanted to talk to a customer service rep in America. I got someone who sounded American but she cut out which didn't happen with anyone else I tried to talk to today so it has to be on United Healthcare's end of the phone line. When it finally came back so I could try to speak to her it had gone to the survey questions and I never even got to speak to the customer service rep. Also when speaking to the foreigner yesterday I could hear all the noise in the background from other foreigners answering their phones. The foreigner in the Philippines today never hung up his phone so I could do the survey. I waited several minutes and he never hung up. He must not work very much. If service doesn't improve, I guess I will have to see about trying to change plans.

I have used my insurance this year for a trip to the emergency room for my wrist with follow up visits to an orthopedic surgeon, dermatology procedures, and shoulder surgery (superior capsular reconstruction) with physical therapy. I have paid ZERO out of pocket for all of this. I anticipate more dermatology procedures and possibly surgery on the other shoulder. I am so pleased that I have this supplemental coverage. It has been an easy journey too, with no hassles regarding claims.

We purchased the United Health Care medicare plan. While they claim in their ads that you can go to any doctor that takes medicare this is false. You must stay within the network of your primary care physician. I'm surprised when I see United Health Care's TV ads claiming that you can go to any doctor, that is a patent lie. My wife had her long standing gyno doctor in one system and primary care in another. Since before we moved to UHC we always had a PPO this wasn't an issue.

When I signed up for the the UHC AARP plan I specifically asked if all our doctors were in network, the answer was yes. THEN when we tried to use it, the rejections started. Turns out that the medical group of the primary physician controls who you can see, and they won't approve out of group doctors. United Healthcare just claimed it was out of their control, even after multiple phone calls with them. In the end we dropped the plan and moved to a different company, not the AARP plan, and kept our doctors.

I have been on the plan for about two years and recently received a letter informing me that I have been receiving a "discounted rate" and the discount will be reduced each year. That's the first I have ever heard anything about a discount. This is just a devious way to inform customers that prices will be increased. I would not trust this company or AARP. Don't believe their advertising. Speaking of advertising, have you ever noticed how much AARP spends on television advertising? Why not just provide lower rates?

I have been a member of AARP United Healthcare Medicare Complete for 1.5 years and am extremely satisfied with the assistance from Customer Service. There have been a number of issues:

1. An Eye Care provider balance billing me, this was rectified while I was on the phone with them and a revised invoice sent.

2. A pharmacy billing UHC for a prescription I was not given, this was reversed while I was on the phone.

3. Again balance billed for a CT scan at in an in-network provider. I spoke with Judy on Sunday (Monday was a holiday) and she said she would make a note and call them on Tuesday. She called me back on Tuesday morning and said the matter had been rectified and the provider would send me a revised invoice for co-pay only.

I would strongly advise all UHC Medicare Complete members to check their monthly UHC statements carefully for claims, and not to pay any invoices until they have been cross checked against the UHC statements or with a CSR.

Billing practices result in multiple co-pays to be paid for a single medical service such as blood draw. Unresponsive patient support and advocacy. Totally messed up and numb communications between plan, patient and physician. This plan is too large in our experience to properly manage care for patients in Utah. This plan fails to communicate with the patient and provides email with unworkable links that frustrate and deny needed access to information. The AARP United Healthcare Medicare option is not a good option. This has been a long year to pay for this mistake. Will be out next enrollment period.

I called AARP/United to dis-enroll from the RX plan (mainly because using GOOD RX is such an amazing and valuable service, that the United plan premium no longer made sense) and I was told I could NOT quit the plan unless I fit one of their "scenarios," i.e. moved, deceased, etc. As a result, I stopped payments. The agent actually TOLD me during that call that non-payment would dis-enroll me from the plan! Three months have passed and I just received a collections letter! Just got off the phone with an agent who would not come off the scripted responses, would not listen to what I was explaining, and only repeated again and again that I owed $198.30 on the account. Collections??

You cannot voluntarily quit this plan. You can only stop paying, and this is the result. Absolute rip-off. Consumer beware! DO NOT sign up until you have checked all your prescriptions through Good RX. I wish I had done so. I intend to fight this (BTW, the agent refused to give me the name of any upper management to speak with or write to! Unbelievable!). AARP is a money-maker, not the hearts-and-flowers consumer advocate group they pretend to be.

I had some indigestion and other symptoms of a possible heart problem. I called UHC and was told that EKG was not a preventable coverage item and that I would have to pay 20% of EKG, which they estimated to be between $95 and $300+. I also do not use Part D for prescriptions because the co-pay I would have to pay is higher than paying cash through GoodRx and Blink Health. I am 80 years old and I am shocked at the way this insurance company takes care of seniors. I will be checking others when the enrollment period is here.];

AARP UNITED HEALTH CARE Medicare Complete is the worst insurance I have ever had. I started the plan this year. My prescriptions went from about $15-$20 for a month's supply to $100-$200 for a month's supply of almost every medication I take. Some they even refused to cover at all. I have had to get discount coupons to make them less expensive but still overpriced. I have had to purchase from Canada as well. They jerk you around by charging you $15 the first month, then over $100 for the same amount the next month. You spend your time hunting for a decent price or trying to find another med. My doctor has prescribed others with the same result. The prices even for generics are over $100.

This insurance company raised the tiers on all my meds and probably everyone's as my MD has told me many of her patients are having the same trouble as I am. I requested a tier change as did my doctor and they refused. There is nothing I can do to fight it. I cannot cancel this horrible insurance as it is too late. I will NEVER use them again. Do not buy this insurance. You will be sorry.

AARP should be ashamed of themselves for endorsing a company that treats seniors the way this company does. The customer service is beyond terrible. Every time I called I received different information. I needed to cancel my supplemental insurance because I went back to work and received coverage through my job. When I called initially I was told I had up until the end of the month to cancel. When I called at the end of the month to do so I was told I had to pay for an additional month. I said I would pay but to please cancel my insurance. I continued to receive bills.

When I called about them I was told they had no record of me calling to cancel. When I told them the dates of the calls they reviewed the notes and said the notes did not indicate anything about a cancellation. I informed them that their notes were only as good as the customer service reps who wrote them and I had no way of ensuring they were accurate. The company is either too cheap to hire competent customer service reps to assist their clients, or they just do not care. Perhaps they see seniors as an easy mark. I just received a letter that they've sent my "non-payment" to a collection agency. Dealing with all of this is detrimental to my health. I can feel my blood pressure rising as I deal with all of this.

I have leukemia which leaves me prone to clotting. I had a massive pulmonary embolism March 2018. Unfortunately my leukemia was obvious but not diagnosed at the time. I had to diagnose myself January 2019. I have had to take a higher than generally accepted dose of ** for the last year. My last Medicare plan was awful so I switched to the AARP United Healthcare plan. I have had a 2 week battle with them getting my proper dose of ** covered. I talked to a bunch of morons who don't understand that treatment is different when you have leukemia. I unfortunately was so frustrated that I ended up yelling at the morons that you're trying to kill me - which is actually true. Unfortunately I had to deal with these jerks when I'm home ill with leukemia and influenza when I'm on Chemo, which can be a deadly combination. A jerk came in and saw me with the flu knowing that I have leukemia!!

I was told by the representative that nominating my private gym to be part of the health and wellness program that pays half of my gym membership would just be a formality. I have discovered that this is not the case at all. Other members of my well-established 30 year old privately owned gym have been "nominating" our gym for the last 4 months. The owner has also tried to call and do whatever is needed to be recognized in their system. They are part of the Silver Sneakers program, no problems. The department that supposedly determines eligibility is mysteriously unavailable for even the reps to ask what the problem is. Not a good start to our relationship - I will be changing my supplemental insurance as soon as possible.

The cancellation of Silver Sneakers membership benefit is absolutely the worst decision ever made for AARP/United Healthcare. The Medicare Supplement policy is very expensive but the Silver Sneakers free membership was a fabulous benefit so we always kept the AARP/United Healthcare Medicare Supplemental policy. The Fitness Center in Florida has so many great classes along with a great gym that we go four or five times a week. The Silver Sneakers allowed us to attend as many classes as we wanted without any cost. I will be changing my supplemental policy soon. If you value any kind of fitness center membership, do not sign up for this policy.

My husband and I joined AARP 4 months ago and I've regretted it since. I had to call them countless times regarding the fact that our membership packet had not arrived. Finally about 8 weeks later it did. I was supposed to receive a sign on gift but after several calls we did not. We were literally blown off. Then I called 2 days ago and a rep answered and I told him I had called 3x already and emailed because I had not been receiving my AARP subscription magazine. The rep said "hold on" and I realized he wasn't coming back to the phone rather transferred without telling me to the switchboard that said they're closed. I cannot believe this, they are a horrible business take your money and blow you off! That's how they treat seniors. We won't be renewing.

I recently forced myself to seek help for bipolar disorder, accompanied by intermittent explosive disorder and PTSD. Seeking help this way was not easy for me to do. The doctor prescribed ** in a graduated dosage. AARP does not cover this basic, tier 1 medicine. So now, I not only don't have what I need to help me, but I actually have yet another problem... Just what I DON'T need. I feel like because I am old and poor that the "system" doesn't think I am worth fixing, or even human, for that matter. So, as far as I am concerned, and because of their obvious lack of concern, AARP has failed monumentally in their stated mission and as fellow human beings. Obviously, to AARP, money is more important than helping people.

I signed up for AARP membership as a condition of obtaining UHC Medicare supplemental insurance. Since signing up, I routinely get mailings indicating I need to renew my membership, even though it has months remaining on it. Each mailing contains dire warnings about the membership lapsing. I think of my elderly parents, and how they would be taken in by this, perhaps paying the membership fee repeatedly and not realizing that it was unnecessary. That combined with the lousy customer service from AARP sent me searching for an alternative. Since I need to keep my UHC insurance, I emailed and asked if AARP membership was necessary AFTER signup. Turns out, it ISN'T. Yes you can have UHC Medicare supplemental insurance and you DON"T HAVE TO BE AN AARP MEMBER. Nowhere will the AARP materials or website tell you this. AARP does not have the best interest of seniors at heart - only its bottom line.

My wife and I have separate checking accounts and receive our respective S.S. checks deposited in each respective account. I have been enrolled in an AARP/United Healthcare supplement insurance plan for 5 years with premiums being debited monthly via their EFT agreement from my checking. My wife is about to turn 65 and has signed up with UHC. We believed that we could have each of our premiums respectivly deducted from each checking account. But UHC refuses to do this because they say our AARP membership is a joint membership. However, they do agree that they will process, and keep each of our claim info, and history separate, so why can't they bill separately??? Poor policy agreement and customer relations on AARP's support and relations with UHC.

I am 66. I received a flyer from AARP recommending United Health as a Medicare supplement insurance. I had and have a supplemental Insurance with Aetna. However, I was looking for another plan that might eliminate co-pays. I Chose Plan N and called their customer service. Approximately on November 27th, 2018. I asked them to send the application to me and never received one. So, I called on Dec. 24, 2018, and the representative told me he didn’t understand why I hadn’t received it. Then I again called on January 15 2019, I decided to apply over the phone. I answered all questions honestly. I had Cancer in 2011 but was not treated for any Cancer in the previous 3 years (which is a question they ask).

On February 2 I received an email stating my coverage had changed. I did not check it as it was a Friday - I should have. On February 5th (Monday) there was a debit of $422 dollars from me and my partners checking account (he has just turned 65 and decided to obtain the same plan) and he had a monthly payment of $160 dollar and mind was suppose to be $162. When I saw the $427 debit for both of us I thought that included a few months. I called their customer service and they explained that was only for the month of March. I was very upset and asked that they terminate my coverage and refund my money. They would not but would not give me a refund but a credit would be applied to 2 and 1/2 months of my partner’s premium.

Later that week I received in the mail of an explanation of the monthly amount of my monthly coverage: it was to be $267 and this was to be $160. But that was only for March. In the following months the monthly debit would be $588 meaning my premium would be $428 or $5,126 annually. I received yesterday, February, 11, 2019, another letter explaining why now I was only qualified for Level 2. Though I had answered all the questions honestly, the underwriter had investigated my past Cancer in 2011 (which was an open book) and also contacted a company called “Exam One” a subsidiary of Quest diagnostics.

Supposedly they had sent information that not only had I had Cancer but that I had history of COPD, Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema and that they had received this information from my primary Doctor. This is untrue. I contacted my Doctor and he went through my records and found nothing of that nature listed. He has generously told me to have Exam One contact him and I will. Though you cannot speak to a representative and they will only mail you the information.

I am so disappointed in AARP - I thought they were supposed to help seniors. I will never use, or apply, to any affiliates recommended by them ever again. And as for United Heath, I am reporting them to “Shield”. It is now obvious why they never send me the two applications: I was a high risk and God Forbid I had a relapse and have to pay.

We are in desperate need of Insurance reform and we definitely need a “ one payer” system. So, remember, be careful when you choose your open enrollment at 65 because if you get sick and want to change supplemental care... And shame on AARP. I, and many people trust AARP but if you read the small print, as I did, they get a cut. I am not finished with my investigation and if I could get the name of the underwriter. They explained what the pan covered.

This insurance has been overcharging us for vision services for the last 3 years, after a year we even got them to issue us a check for part of our appeal (they never process all it, no reason given). The check never arrived. We are going to file an appeal with Medicare and the state. Nobody to talk to.

I switched to the AARP United Healthcare Complete HMO plan Jan. 1, 2019 in Oregon. Their provider list is severely outdated. Every doctor on their list that I have tried to get an appointment with is no longer a provider or not even practicing what they are listed for. You have to have a referral from a primary care doctor for every service other than your primary care provider. I needed cataract surgery, had to have a referral for the eye exam, another referral for the eye surgeon even though the surgeon is part of the office I was referred to for the eye exam, now I will need another referral and prior authorization for the surgery. I have spent hours on the phone with customer service reps. trying to get basic care covered. Takes weeks to get appointments. I would hate to have something serious. Dying is easier than getting medical services approved.

My premium rose over $30 per month in less than six months with more increases to come. It just keeps going up. When I switched to another insurance carrier, they still withdrew a premium from my bank account. It has been over a month and still no refund. I don't know how anyone affords their product. Customer service obviously is not a priority part of their extreme premiums.

I just switched to this Medicare Advantage plan after several years with a different plan at another company. Now I am told that I cannot rely on (1) my summary of benefits, which tells me I'm covered for a routine eye exam every year, or (2) the "Search for Provider" online which tells me my optometrist is on my plan. They're telling me that my optometrist is not contracted for routine eye exams with United HealthCare, but only for medical diagnoses. How on earth would I know that in advance of making my decision to enroll in this plan? After I enrolled and created my own account, it still shows my optometrist as on the plan and accepting all patients. But NOWHERE does it show that this provider can only provide certain services, and not all vision services listed on my Summary of Benefits. I am now regretting making the change to this plan. What else am I going to find out that they didn't tell me up front?

Repeated and extended calls trying to disenroll from Advantage plan. They repeated lied and gave contradictory reasons for repeatedly refusing to approve disenrollment. We were refused until it was past the disenrollment window. We were told to resubmit in January - having to pay for one month, someone else there said 3 months. In January we resubmitted disenrollment and were told we were not eligible to disenroll! They said there was no appeal. I called Medicare and they promptly disenrolled. The further details of what they said to us on each of our many calls appears to be incompetence/poor training but more so expressions of a culture of manipulative, dishonest, predatory, venal ways of doing business.

I have been a member of AARP UNITED HEALTHCARE Part D Medicare plans endorsed by AARP since their inception. Yesterday, 1/3/2019 I went to my pharmacy for ** which has cost $45 as a Tier 3 Brand name. The druggist said that the current copay is $445 and has been changed to the generic formulation. A 1,000% increase for a generic version of ** didn't make sense to either of us. After a lengthy call to United Healthcare we were told that the plan changed December 29, 2018 less than a week before. I received no notice despite them have my phone number, email, and mailing address all of which they have used to contact me in the past. Needless to say I did not obtain the refill.

Upon my arrival at home I called the same and was simply told the change occurred stated and in essence my total drug cost would double to about $9,000 per year and they stated that they informed me. Now what sane person would accept a 1,000% increase in a covered brand name to generic version for a 1,000% increase. They insisted that I was duly informed and that they also moved almost all of my other prescriptions from generic Tiers 2 and 3 to Specialized Generic Tier 4 basically doubling me cost. This is unconscionable. fraudulent unethical and immoral as far as I am concerned having been a member since Part D began.

Luckily, because of Hurricane Florence the enrollment period has been extended allowing me to choose a plan by Mutual of Omaha or BCBS of NC at a huge savings and coverage for all my drugs at half of the total annual costs for a quarter of the premium ($20-$40 as opposed to $82 for AARP). I believe that there are many other plan participants who are going to be greatly surprised when they go to purchase their prescriptions and BAZINGA they discover the huge increase in coverage. I strongly urge all AARP members to abandon United Healthcare and investigate these other providers. I think their savings will be greatly appreciated. I've been enrolled in AARP/United Healthcare PPO for five years now. I've always been happy with services. Any time I call customer service, they are eager to help with correct answer. I've never had a claim denied or even questioned. When I had emergency appendectomy, the bill was over $52,000. My portion was around $1,100, so I was happy to pay. The only small complaint I have is that United Healthcare covered Silver Sneakers when I first joined, and then they dropped coverage. If you want patients to be healthy, why don't you pay for exercise classes? It would save you money in the long run. Overall, it's a great company and I'd give FIVE stars if they included Silver Sneakers.

I have no complaints so far with AARP United Healthcare (other than raising the monthly price about every 6 months). But I just received a letter saying they will not cover SILVER SNEAKERS anymore and offered 50% off gym price... That's way too expensive. The Silver Sneakers has been the only exercise I get and it's a healthy outlet to be with others to talk to exercise with and be treated nicely at the 24 hour gym. I'm sure going there keeps me healthy but now maybe I won't be so healthy because of AARP United Healthcare in January will no longer pay for it. Maybe I have to change insurance!!!

AARP/United Healthcare use and define the hospital status of "under observation" to their profit advantage. Here is the detail: 19 days in hospital. 17 days in Skilled Nursing Facility. Rushed to emergency room (Congestive Heart Failure), held in observation for 48 hours. Returned to same room at Skilled Nursing Facility for 18 days. AARP/United Healthcare will not pay the remaining 18 days because of the "observation" status. Medicare paid their portion without any issues. Read the fine print before purchasing any of their policies.

What they won't tell you, but you'll learn soon enough is that the price of this coverage goes up every year to a total of $200/month. It may seem like a good deal at the beginning, but you'll end up paying for it in the end. This was NOT mentioned in the original contract.

AARP is a great company. They offer great coverage for many things like hospital stays and visits, yearly checkups and examines even teeth cleanings. In addition, they offer a great app to remind you of appointments for doctors visits. I get reminded to take my meds daily or when needed at the moment. But even though I love everything about AARP I would like if they offer more free wellness programs to let consumers know what their company is doing new yearly.

I have had AARP since I first started on Medicare. At that time they gave a big discount off the initial price. Every year since then a 5-10 percent discount has still been given till it totally ends in a year or two. To date I have had two operations, six hospital visits, numerous specialists, hospital procedures and blood tests. The only charge I ever had was one blood test. Medicare would not pay for a charge of 93.00. However, it would be nice if I could pay less and I can go to any dr, specialist, hospital, lab anywhere in country.

AARP Medicare helps me pay medical bills and a small amount on my prescribed medicine. They offer easy pay or direct billing. I do not have to pay all of my medical bills just a deposit. But the cost of the insurance is not very good, high rates, and the phone representatives don't understand the policies. Example, they are supposed to pay for prescriptions but would not pay because it was more than a week's supply. They said it was illegal to get more than a week's worth and yet I've been getting a month's supply for 3 years. I was to be reenvirised and NEVER compensated.

They also help provide extra health care when you need it. They are great. However, when you use your card when you are shopping, people know about how old you are, because of the age requirements to join. Sometimes the retailers say they don't accept the discount card. They need to update their list online.

I like that this company ensures that all my medical bills are paid for and that I have rides when I have no car available. Happy to know that this company love helping people in a big way. Want to keep it forever. It makes me happy and healthy. Sometimes calls are slow but that's normal thing for most companies.

The convenience of using AARP is ok and I like having the basic options that they provide. I like the style of the website and how easy it is to navigate. I also like the way they handle customer service, and the mail I get that tells me all of my costs and premiums. However my experience with this company has been turbulent to say the least. Prices are constantly rising and I do not like the way they are constantly trying to take away services from what I already get and what I'm paying for. It's ridiculous that Americans are supposed to be so forward but we can't even get adequate health care. Government officials need to start doing their job and providing people with healthcare as a right as a citizen of this country.

AARP Medicare complete is a great company to deal with. They have it all covered. They also have great, honest and satisfying customer service. They send out letters to keep me informed on what tests needs to be done. I also love their co pays to the doctors and their co pays for their prescriptions. I also like the fact that their co pays are 0 dollars and that the medicine is the same. They give approval quickly to the doctor for procedures. Also with AARP I like the prescription drug mail and that you can see your own doctor. I love telling people that I have AARP.

AARP has taken care of me the entire time and I don't think there is another company out there that can compete or even compare with AARP has done for me and my family. There are a lot of features that I love about AARP and what I love the most is that I do not have to always call in for someone to assist me. I can log into my account online and everything I need is right there on the website for me. They are very good to me and if I had the power I would not change a thing about AARP. They are perfect the way that they are. I hope that they always will remain the same and never ever change. Overall my experience with AARP has been amazing.

Coverage help the gap between what Medicare covered and what what they did not. The booklet was hard to read but their customers service representatives were nice and knowledgeable to help me out. The call center was a hassle to call and wait on the phone but once I got a hold of someone, they explained it well. Overall AARP is ok to deal with but I will not subscribe to it again unless the price is more affordable. Most people think the cost is high.

My AARP Medicare Supplemental plan is one of the best health insurance plans there is. AARP is one of if not the best company when it comes to health insurance because they know how to get the right plan for you. Depending on your situation they can give you a plan that is just for your situation such as a family plan or an individual plan with different and unique features and benefits to accompany each. AARP know how to treat and care for their customers and I have never had one single bit of regret since I joined them. I haven't one single problem at all with them and even if I did, I know I would be able to resolve it quickly with their awesome support team. I'm really glad I found this company when I did or else I might still be getting ripped off from bad deals from other companies.

I like that this company gives you the ability to specifically accommodate the plan to meet your needs. No more having to sweat it out with other companies and hope it can meet your needs. There is no hoping or praying with AARP as it is as professional as it gets when it comes to giving you the right kind of health insurance. AARP has the best features out of any health insurance company. You can set the specific date you want your health insurance plan to be effective, which will allow for it to become active with any included benefits (which is basically every plan). This is one of the features I appreciate the most as it saves me the trouble of having to remember when I should be starting a plan. It is especially helpful if you have more than one plan.

The people that work there know what they're doing to the highest degree. You will likely never come to dislike anything about this company, but hypothetically speaking, if you want to nitpick on something like the number of plans you can have at once or how much money the plan costs, then feel free. The plans are priced at a very affordable cost, but maybe have some more deals to make different plans cheaper or maybe have like a 2-for-1 deal. This would probably entice people even more to get acclimated with AARP and more customers mean more money in the pockets. Once again, this is just a suggestion of how to possibly improve the company.

Good prices on doctor appointments and medication costs. I like that they work with me on the prices of my copays for doctor appointments and my medication costs. They're very good about making sure I have the medications under a certain amount of money so I don't have to worry about coming up with the money. The only complaint is that it takes them a while to respond to my questions and concerns. I have contacted them on numerous occasions when I really needed them to help me understand something or when I needed them to fix a pricing issue either with a copay for the doctor's office or my medications at the pharmacy. I hate that it takes them days at a time to get ahold of me sometimes. I've waited about 2 days at the most for a response on some occasions. Could be better but I'm grateful.

I have been a customer of United Health for 10 years and have been completely happy with them. I like that I can choose my own doctor and don't have to have a referral and they have great customer service. I also like that they take care of all of the paperwork. But the downside is that the premiums are quite high and they get higher every year.

AARP is great and I love it. It's accepted everywhere, I have no copays and don't need referrals like I did with my old plan. I always needed referrals and authorizations for test and now I don't. All my doctors take my plan. My last plan was EmblemHealth and all of a sudden my doctor didn't take my plan, so until I turned 50 and was able to get AARP I had to switch my PCP.

My overall experience with the company that I selected was and is a very good one. I have been treated with the utmost respect, kindness, patience, and understanding. The company also takes their time to explain the coverages, the limits, and the rights that I have. I also like the benefits you do end up being able to have. However, I wish the process of getting approved for benefits wouldn't be so hard to get.

Everything worked out fine and I was able to get everything at a very limited price when I needed it. I only needed it for a few months when I had a medical condition over 5 years ago. I was able to see a multitude of doctors in the area whenever I needed a procedure done. They had good services including free prescriptions and screening. It was enjoyable because I didn't have to think of being billed after the fact and there were no hidden fees that I didn't see coming.

My overall experience with AARP was a great experience and I like AARP for many reasons. I was able to use my Medicaid everywhere. They are low on cost for the things you do have to pay on and help you with a lot when you need them. They have a great a great support team with real people who care. The people really helped me a lot and showed me they really care about me instead of what I can offer. They really take time out for each individual. But if I could change, I would make it where everyone was able to enroll with them no matter what. I would make it where you could experience more benefits where people in need would qualify for and would love. Other than that this company rocks and I would choose them all over again. I have heard many great things about them and so far, it has been proven.

AARP Medicare are pretty good and easy to work with. It can sometimes be hard to reach someone with questions, but you usually get an answer once you do. They are understanding and seem to have the goal of offering a product that meets their customers needs. They offer a lot of assistance in answering any questions you may have or understanding what coverage exists. Overall I have had a good experience with the company and will definitely consider staying with them in the future. But it would be nice if premiums could be lowered. Nothing is free but lower cost is always a plus.

Very helpful in helping me select supplemental insurance. Their team offered follow up and gave me information that helped me decide to go with AARP insurance. The representative did not push me into making a decision. Very personable and patient. Did not try and persuade me just gave me the information and allowed me to make my own decisions. The coverage took care of my doctor's visit and allowed me to continue seeing my specialist and it was covered. The representatives at AARP were very well informed and most pleasant.

I love them. Every time I call, they are there for me. They do everything they can to troubleshoot the problems and try and get me my medication with no fees. They also check up on me, they greet me, and they make sure I'm good. They care to know I'm actually doing well on my medication. I think that if they had a more attractive name and better advertisement with appealing benefits presented to the customers then they'd attract a lot more consumers.

The payment each month is ridiculous. They should change the cost of the plan. I pay 270 a month and when you're on a fixed income it's hard because it's a large portion. I need to have more options in the marketplace that their insurance is less expensive. Social services or whoever is in-charge of insurance plans should contact me and show me other options so I can save money and still have good insurance. However, I like that I don't have a copay. This way if I'm seeing a lot of doctors that month it saves me money. This is good for me.

I like that they offer a wide range of coverage that is very affordable in comparison to other plans that are currently on the market today and they can be purchased very easily through your employer. AARP Medicare offers comprehensive medical insurance at a low cost to consumers who have health insurance purchased through their employment on a regular basis and the plans are much better than Obamacare plans that are on the market today. I got AARP United Healthcare and it's been okay, but I need more help with my doctors. They should have more in network doctors so I don't have to pay more to see a different doctor. I like their 800 phone number, my insurance card and the book of in network providers. Their customer service is pretty good too. But they need to pay more on services that my doctor prescribes. Also, I dislike that they don't cover all the things they should, they should cover specialist more for anyone like me on a limited social security when it doesn't even last from payday to payday.

The features that I really care for and admire about this company is that they will go far and well beyond whatever is needed to help the customer understand the exact product and services that they purchase. No other brand or company can offer this feature. But one feature that I would like to see changed is offering a cheaper startup price for first time applications. This feature should be well explained and understood by the consumer before they ever sign or finalize their policy. My overall experience with this brand is a very impressive one for the simple fact that this company is very customer driven and offers the very best in very high quality products and services that fit within any family's budget or financial planning.

Every time I come to their website (https://www.medicare.uhc.com/aarp) I waste hours only to end up calling on the phone and wasting more time! The new website is even worse! Two days ago I spent hours trying to find a new PCP since I received a letter stating that the current provider has left the practice. The search process simply does not work on this website. No matter what key words I input, I get incorrect information back if any at all. I put in "Lee Physicians Group" (current provider office) and get every doctor with the word "physician" in their profile! Yeah, that is all of them!

I select various filters in the search fields but none work. For example: select 'female' but still have males mixed in. Select Fort Myers location but get them all! Put in a physician’s name but get no returns, even though I know they are in the network! UHC (United Health Care) actually selected/appointed a new physician for me automatically, way over in Cape Coral! They actually sent me my new ID card with my new PCP that I did not pick and do not want! I live in Fort Myers. So there are no physicians participating here anymore???

So as usual, yesterday I make the dreaded phone call. Yep, another day off wasted with UHC and still no results! After talking to a UHC rep yesterday for half an hour, and being put on and off of hold several time (they have to research EVERY question or escalate it to someone that may know the answer…), I finally realized she could not provide me with any information whatsoever! She said she could mail me a book with all the physicians listed in it! What!? I told her this is 2018, I am in your website now... just tell me how to access the available network physicians since the search function does not work! She said the website does not provide that. What!? So I cannot use the website to search for a new doctor nor can I access the information within the website. So what is the website for again??? So I asked to speak to a supervisor.

After being on hold for a supervisor for 15 minutes, I hung up. This is not a one-time issue; this has become the new norm. Today I decided it was time to change insurance companies. So I have spent another morning on my day off to research other providers only to become so overwhelmed that I felt like giving up! I even sent emails from within the website a couple days ago asking for help and explaining what experience I had in a detailed message. They did not even respond! Fed Up! I suppose I will have to fill in one of those quote request online forms, only to be flooded with phone calls and emails from every agent in Florida! So I decided to put my review out there so others may make an informed decision on which Medicare supplemental insurance plan they place their healthcare needs with.

I have my drug plan with United Health Care and have been with them for at least 6 year now. My experience has been very positive with United HC and have had excellent service. I have seen quite a lot of premium increases thru my time with the company. The premium is beginning to get rather expensive. The drug tiers and drug out of pocket cost are beginning to also become very iffy. However I have a 0 deductible which I like very much. The plan I had before had a fairly high deductible and didn't even give any benefit until I met that deductible. I prefer to stay with the same company and do not like changing each year.

They have a 24 hour call center for any questions I might have and are very polite when I call them and they help me 100% with my question. I like the very informative booklet they sent me which shows all that I am covered for and is a great help for most questions that I have. As long as Medicare pays for a service, then they will pay any difference. I am so pleased with AARP (United Healthcare Plan) that I also applied for Dental insurance with them. And I would not change it for any other plan at this time.

Signing up for an account on their website has been problematic and their mail order service has been rather aggravating/frustrating to use. I have multiple chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, kidney disease, and hypothyroid disease and also experienced breast cancer with chemo, radiation and surgery and despite all these issues the significant majority of the cost of my care was covered. All my various providers readily accepted AARP along with Medicare and there was no difficulty with co-pays or with the filing of charges for reimbursement. Just very easy to utilize which was very helpful since during much of the time, I was very fatigued and unable to handle difficulty.

My mom who as dementia moved in with me a few months back. We sold her home and advised the post office to forward her mail to my address. We never, ever received her new 2018 premium payment invoice. I found out when I went to Walgreens to pickup her prescription that she no longer has coverage. I called AARP and they said it was too late and she does not qualify for special circumstances. I am so confused and frustrated on what just happened. They took payment for Jan-Mar of this year, but will not reinstate her policy... That does not make sense. Now she will not have coverage until October and they can say no at that time. Please send advise. They are unfair, heartless and unfeeling at AARP/UHC.

I like their good customer service. Good in-network providers and facilities. Reasonable co-pays. No referrals necessary. Stable list of GPs and specialists. Provide updates quickly. Quick to send out new cards. Leaves me paying large copays for hospitalizations though, $500 per night for the first four nights. If I have a chronic illness, copays can become astronomical. Also, doesn't work in Europe.

My experience with AARP Medicare supplement insurance by United Healthcare has been a good one. I don't have to pay a premium for the insurance and my co-pays are low. Also, I appreciate that I don't have a co-pay when I need to see my primary doctor and I don't need to have a referral to see a specialist either. I also like their customer service. They are knowledgeable, helpful and easy to do business with.

Last October I inquired about the different plans available to me. I had been paying $25/mo for a basic plan. I was informed if I go up to $91.10 per month I’d have no deductible (it had been $405/yr) and no cost for prescriptions. Now I find, as I use my insurance for the first time, that the salesman lied and there are costs. The Co-pay is now $37 for the prescription I need.

Under my former plan the Co-pay would have been $31. So I’m paying $700 per year more to save $405 and the monthly drug cost will be $72 more per year. Therefore I’m losing about $375/year. And when I ask to review my account they see my issue but they cannot make changes until next window period. Fraud is ok. Corporate profit on senior citizens is easy. That’s just another United Health Care Plan profit center. And AARP recommends this company to all members based upon making money on the frauds. Just terrible. One last thing when I asked to speak to someone in management I was put on hold and a recording came on which was circular. So they don’t care and there are no people to talk to, to attempt to resolve the customer issue.

The plan I chose provided the benefits I was looking for. It was easy and a pleasant experience to sign up for the coverage online. I liked that I could pay my premiums online, and not be required to have automatic withdrawals from my checking account. All claims were paid within a reasonable time. However I would like to have a lower premium with same benefits.

AARP is a great to be part of a membership with and they have long term care and life insurance. Easy to use and I like the resource center for AARP members only. Also, AARP helps protect Medicare and members of AARP with senior with life insurance coverage benefit, they offer online games including discount online and offline. But I would like AARP to change the co payments on drugs and health care.

I agree that the service, or lack thereof has gone through a major decline. AS someone else noted, s/he noted that there had been a major decline in the service and the accuracy of their bills which they have been unable to correct. Have be inaccurate and unable to be corrected. No doubt, they are living on the float. The longer they hold the money, the longer they collect interest. Yes, the interest rate has been low but when you hold millions in the account it does amount to a considerable sum and their expect that no one will make a fuss about 7.95 so for the individual subscriber, it is a bother, but for the company it is a windfall. It does add up does it not?

AND, they clearly do attempt to defraud! Not only have they billed me for a month during which I was not a member, they're doing, due to poor accounting which I thought I had corrected but one hand apparently doesn't know or care what the other hand is doing. It is totally impossible to reach Medicare AARP bookkeeping by phone. I have tried three, maybe four times. Their answering machine goes in circles, transfers you to another answering machine which says it is to the right department and transfers you back to the original machine and then to someone else who transferred you originally. His name is Lance and I spoke to him twice during this merry go round.

But, That is not even my major complaint. The major complaint is that I was dropped from coverage from AARP Drug Rx because I had overlooked a bill. They said I could rejoin at the start of the new enrolment year, January 2018. Then they sent me questionnaire asking who had covered my Rx costs during the 3 months during which I had not been insured by them. Had I enroled in another drug plan, with whom and why was I dropped. I said I had been paying my own costs for the 3 months and that I should not be charged for LED which I translated as Late Enrolment D?

Yesterday, I receive a letter stating that my appeal was rejected and I must pay the penalty. Totally illogical. They dropped me. I did not quit. There is no appeal. And now they expect me to pay a penalty as a result of their decision. Quite a setup. They could look for excuses to drop people, require = them to wait a few months before re-enrolling and then change them a penalty for late enrolment, The more people they drop, the greater their income. This has got to be illegal. To punish members for something about which you, not they have control.

Now as to their overcharge. Was charged for an extra month when I enrolled again in January. I called and explained to the agent or agent/salesman. That I should be charged only for the period beginning January 1, 2018, when they ALLOWED me to re-enroll. He agreed and said he would correct the billing. It was still on the next bill l but thought it might take up to 2 months for corrections to go from one computer to another. In March, I again received an incorrect bill. Now, they have added interest on the overcharge. So many crooked ways to make money. As I said, It is impossible to get through to AARP by phone. I will investigate other insurance companies but if I can't find one, I can pay my own expenses which will be significantly lower if I use Canadian pharmacies and no longer have to pay for a plan and I might possibly be able to deduct these expenses.

It might come out even or maybe not. In any case, I will not be wasting time on the phone and will not be wiped off by THESE crooks. I don't recall if you rate pharmacies. But if you do, I will look to see that you give fair ratings. Many other subscribers appear to think you no longer do. P.S. At one time AARP was in charge of the programs and represented the public. I remember that they were suddenly bought by United Health. This appears to have been the point at which the service went downhill. I wonder if there was another bidder or was this a secret inside deal?

I am very frustrated. For the last week I have been trying to get ** (prescription strength) for mother and I have received two different price quotes - $148.00 at CVS and $98.00 at Walmart, after insurance. WHY??? AARP already takes over $250.00 per month from my mother’s $680 social security check and she is receiving no real help from this so called "insurance company for seniors!" It's more like highway robbery. I need to find her some other prescription drug insurance. This is ridiculous! Any suggestions?

My parents, grandparents and I have had a great experience with AARP so far. They cover a heck of a lot of necessary procedures/appointments that I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. Moreover, they have wonderful customer service, it is always very easy to get in contact with a representative on the phone, on the internet, and in person. Aside from getting in contact, my issues always seem to get resolved fairly quickly. However, they should have better coverage for people with a much lower income than myself. Extended coverage would be fantastic.

I have been very pleased since I have purchased the AARP Medicare supplement plan. They are very easy to contact if you have any questions or problems and they always pay the bills promptly. Moreover, I like their pricing. It is based on drugs that are in different tiers. If I ever have a question or a concern I can call them or email them and they can go over other options that might be better for me.

Wonderful customer service every single time. I've never had to wait on hold and everyone is very knowledgeable. Also, they are caring and compassionate. If I have any questions the website is easy to navigate. Most of my copays are reasonable low and so are the prescription copays. Moreover, this company offers car rides to people who can't drive or don't have a vehicle. This is a company that I would definitely recommend to my friends and family.

Able to help right away without hassle. But sometimes they do things that aren't even needed, and one calls take a long time to get through to someone. Sometimes people are rude, and don't even know what they are talking about over the phone. Then I'm put on hold for so long, that I have to hang up and call back. I like that they're on time, accurate and fast. At times when a car is needed or roadside assistance, they are there to help, but does take some time. That when I am able to talk to someone who actually knows what they are talking about, my phone calls go much faster, instead of me talking to someone who's just reading a script.

Also, sometimes they're pushy on their decisions, especially on an accident that wasn't caused by yourself. When they tell you that they are going to be there, it usually takes them a long time to come help or they will end up sending a tow truck that has nothing to do with their company, and then I get charged more because the other company charges me. I need a change!

I like the vision part and the dental is not that bad. But it does cover any cosmetic work I need done, which is very convenient for a lot of my situations and medical concerns I have. And if I have to go to a specialist it has to clear with the insurance company. I just so not like the copays. With this insurance company the copays are little ridiculous. And I would like to just go to any physician I want.

This is a great plan that can't be beat. After announcing they were closing the plant we work in The union and company had an agreement to pick up any extra costs when the company went out of business in 1984 in our city. We pay only $400 apiece for the year out of pocket. My wife has Leukemia and the insurance coverage is great. They are still paying all but $5 of over $18,000 chemotherapy expenses per month for 15 years now.

I like having extra coverage to decrease the amount I have to pay. I also like that they offer different coverage to cater to what I need and when I need it. The company is also very attentive to my needs. Moreover, they offer supplement insurance that Medicare doesn't cover. However, I spend way more than I should on insurance and I dislike the added expense. Other than that, I'm very happy. I would highly recommend them.

I like their flexibility as far as accepting customers with any reasons and all ages. I like how they also have car insurance, that makes shopping for that easier. AARP provides very good service and perks, actually better than the full cost insurance I paid for before retirement. The list of doctors and specialists is very large and I have never had an issue with coverage. The company provides an annual wellness home visit, plus a gift card for taking care of your own health. The monthly cost is zero and they pay me to have an annual exam. How can you go wrong with that?

Also, their website is not very user friendly and there have been several times I have not been able to access my claims. However, it's easy to make payments and they are good about communicating changes in premiums. Most of the people I've spoken with have been helpful and there are no claim forms to fill out, too.

Well AARP is a good company, a little high in price on some things but over I feel a good company when I used it for some of the things that AARP is used for. The service was good, insurance is high everywhere now. Some discounts are good, some are not so good. The company is to help older people like myself to make ends meet in all kinds of discounts. The auto insurance is good also. They do so much.

When I entered the world of Medicare, I reached out to AARP figuring that they were an organization committed to representing my issues. Oh was I wrong. AARP is simply a company selling numerous products for profit. Actually think that their not-for-profit designation needs to be reviewed by AGs. Because of their recommendation I purchased United Health Care. I have already written a scathing review on UHC for ConsumerAffairs. Shame on AARP and the work that they aren't doing. One of their customer service agents actually identified himself as a "sales agent."

I signed up for this medical coverage years ago to assist my medicare. Their contracted doctors never impressed me so I did not use this coverage. Then I asked them to separate from my medicare so that I could at least use my own Medicare coverage without them. Their representative on the phone said it was done as of 12/01/2017. This was a lie. I found them still attached to my Medicare late in 2018. They said that I would have to unenroll and then they would let me know by mail if they approve of this. Currently they are blocking an important surgery for me because my doctors are not on their network. I have to pay for everything out of my own pocket. I truly hate these creeps! I am looking for a lawyer now.

Changed to AARP Medicare Complete Plan 1 from United Healthcare for both myself and my wife. Nothing has gone right from start. False and conflicting information from Customer Service representatives requiring extremely long telephone call lengths, (30 to 55 minutes). Cannot get credit for paying for plan premiums that were to be deducted from SSN benefits. Un-authorized prescriptions being requested from Physicians office to a local pharmacy instead of home delivery.

Most customer service representatives seemed untrained with little to no understanding of policies and procedures. On-line accounts not functioning accurately. The technical support staff is no better. The IT department only gives out vague answers about website updates. Some customer support reps speak very poor English and have terrible phone etiquette. It is like dealing with zombies on the other end of the phone. I do not see how it could be much worse. Picked the wrong Medicare Advantage provider this year.

DO NOT BOTHER WITH AARP UHC! I started attempting to enroll in their Plan F Supplemental Medicare plan in November. Here it is January, and I just cancelled the plan, that I didn't get approved for until early in January. One day I spent 5 hours on the phone with a representative; my calls have been disconnected; and I've been given false information, or rather no information at all that might affect my decision for this insurance. I thought I was registered with them, at least 4 times, to only find out through ANOTHER letter, that there was a problem.

I finally chose a plan that would cost us approximately $120.00/month, and by some miracle was actually accepted for the plan. We received the plan, then the bill in the middle of January for approximately $380.00. When I called I found out that after they approved the plan, it was sent to underwriting (no one had explained this), and they had decided that they needed to raise the premium by 50% due to a health risk??? There had been heart surgery 6 years ago and everything was great with no further hospitalization within the last 2 years (really 6 years), they only wanted 2 years. Someone in underwriting decided that there was Cardiac Artery Disease to consider, and they raised our premium. However, if you do the math, our premium was raised over 75%? When I asked why, no one had an answer. It has been a NIGHTMARE dealing with this company. BEWARE.

I have had nothing but problems with AARP/UHC Medicare advantage since I became eligible for Medicare due to many health problems. I wanted to stay on Medicare A/B and find a really good secondary plan that covered everything Medicare did not including RX, Dental, Vision and so on. Well come to find out that is not the case or option at all for those under 65. If you are proven disabled by the US Government we should be allowed to get the same Medicare options and plans. NOT, the Healthcare administration along with our government leaders won't allow this. Your only option for Medicare (which mind you, you are still paying the monthly premium on for A & B) on social security disability is to be forced to use the Medicare advantage plans (some have premiums every month and some don't).

The creation of Medicare Advantage plans was the worst idea our leader's ever created, you are limited to what advantage plans are in your state and if you want to travel good luck on having any insurance coverage outside your state, Example I have coverage in my home state of Utah, No coverage at all in California or Nevada, But I do have coverage in Idaho as long as I use one of their approved towns (family that lives in Meridian - can't get medical help, go into Boise which is pretty much one in the same with Meridian, but I can only go to one hospital). What a load of crap they pull with all the advantage plans but AARP UHC/Medicare Advantage plan (all of them).

Not a single medication that I take is an approved drug and good luck trying to get it added to your plan, if you are lucky and they do add it for you, they put it in the highest level tier. Thank God I found GoodRx so I don't have to fight UHC or pay these horrible amounts of money to get my medications, I have the pharmacy run it through GoodRx instead and while they are still more money, I have never paid more than $25 on medications. AARP/UHC Medicare coverage of any sort, secondary, part D, Advantage is the most horrible insurance there is.

Thanks to Medicare advantage plans through AARP/UHC (my only choice in my state) just choose a new primary care provider for 2018 because they won't cover the one I have and because of them pulling this stunt, they are very much putting my life in danger. Tell me how is that okay!!! Stay away from any UHC plans Medicare or not unless you want the worst care you will ever receive.

After recently retiring, I decided to go over my monthly bills with a fine tooth comb. To my surprise, I found a monthly debit on my secondary checking account for $18.90. After some digging I found that this has been going on for over 14 years! After spending hours on the phone trying to figure out what this was for I discovered it was an AARP supplemental plan via United Healthcare that pays you a whole $34 a day for every day you spend in the hospital. I had no knowledge of this, surely don't remember ever signing up for such a rip-off plan. That's over $3300 I have paid into a plan that is virtually worthless. Does anyone have any suggestions for recourse. Please advise. Thank you.

I am hoping you can help, I really appreciate it: Problem: UnitedHealthCare effective date: I am retired military and have Tricare For Life. I spoke with Tricare & was told I didn't need the prescription plan with AARP Medicare UnitedHealthCare. (UHC) Member ID **. In August I called UHC and discussed changing my plan to only include the health insurance and drop the prescription plan. In September I received a call from my doctor about my insurance & was told it had been cancelled. I never received a letter, email or phone call from UHC. I called UHC & told them I did not want the health insurance plan cancelled. They said they would reinstate it to 09-01-17. They said it was their error and the plan should have been changed to just health care plan.

I received my new card with an effective date of 10-01-17. In the meantime, I started getting medical claims from September denied. I called UHC again & they said they would forward the effective date 09-01-17 to a board for review & approval. Yesterday I received a letter from UHC denying the date. I called and spoke with several representatives & supervisors. The supervisor said I had called Medicare & not them and that is why the date can't be changed. I explained to UHC that I had never called Medicare. The supervisor insisted that I had. I have kept a record of my phone calls and I did not call Medicare. I called Medicare & spoke with a supervisor who looked through her files & said I never called them. Medicare said they had received a letter from UHC stating my plan had been cancelled.

Medicare said they could not cancel UHC. I called UHC again & was told there was nothing they could do because their records did not show I called them in August. So, if UHC & Medicare both say I did not call them who cancelled the plan in error. I have $1000.00 of dollars in bills and I don't know how I will pay. UHC said to tell the providers from September to submit the bill to Medicare but if the provider doesn't take Medicare I am still responsible. I can't get UHC or Medicare to help. Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

When at the pharmacy with a friend she realized I only paid $5 for the same medication she was charged over $30. We both have the maximum part D coverage so the question is 'why?'. She has AARP UHC coverage while I am with Humana. Since this is a common antibiotic we called AARP to find out why they had such poor coverage. After being bounced around for over a half an hour I was told they 'did not know why' and could not help me any further. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for over 10 minutes. I finally heard someone pick up then the line went dead. I think the justice department needs to open another investigation into this company and their business practices.

Took out medicare supplement for myself and my husband, husband has some health issues so I am power of attorney. Applied, was charged 133.00 each, total 266.00 for premium. I was told, next month I received notice his policy will go up to 325.00 for next month and mine will double, I have no health issues. Called and told them to cancel both policies and now they say I cannot cancel his, as I am not him, even though I have faxed POA papers to them over a month ago. Now they say that would stop the premiums, I have to fax more POA papers and then call back and go thru the process again. Then they said the 133.00, total 266.00 was not a policy, it was the APPLICATION FEE to apply!!! So they said they cannot cancel his policy but when I took him for checkup, physician office said the ins company said his policy is not valid, I canceled it!!

So guess what? They debited my checking acct this AM for $183.00 for his premium??? So I called up to get my money back, and they told me they do not do refunds, that I did not finish the cancellation. There's like 6 more things I should have done to cancel correctly, so now I am out of over 400.00 and still neither of us have a policy, the agent later said, "I have canceled it but you won't get any money back." Very expensive lesson.

The premiums, most RX, and co-pays might be low; but this plan is a joke if you need any kind of out of network treatment. When looking at plans online, just because your specialist is in their website is listed as a preferred physician doesn't mean UH will approve your PCP referral to that specialist. The numerous processes required to receive any treatment is like pulling teeth. My surgery that was supposed to be one week away will now have to be canceled until I can change plans during open enrollment. DO NOT ENROLL IN THIS PLAN OR ANY PLAN OFFERED BY AARP.

AARP Medicare Supplemental Insurance: While it directly does not cost you a monthly premium, it is like having no insurance. You have to pay for everything. So I find myself sick with the doctor's inability to diagnose me or help me. Cannot afford to go for a bunch of tests and go to Specialist. Don't have $5,000 to lay out. THIS IS LIKE HAVING NO INSURANCE. It is a joke.

I became a member of AARP's United Healthcare Supplement F on 7/1/13. I have found that over the course of time whenever tests are ordered by my physicians, it seems to take at least 2 weeks or more to get prior authorizations. On 5/5/17, my Cardiologist ordered a ** Stress Echo as I have severe cardiac issues, and as of today, 5/12/17 no approval has been received by my doctor's office. In fact, they were sending another notice to find out what the delay is with getting this approval.

These kinds of delays have happened many times before this. Prior to this Supplement F, I always had Medicare Advantage Plans which only took 2-3 days to approve. I am paying almost $170/mo for this coverage (far more than with any Medicare Advantage Plans), and this is the kind of service I am getting. These tests are all Medicare approved, so why is it taking so long to get approvals to have these vital tests done?? Maybe you are hoping that the patient dies before the tests are approved!! It is ridiculous to have to wait so long to get prior authorizations. What's the problem?? I am very frustrated over the kind of service I am, and have been getting from United Healthcare!!

Website for: myAARPmedicare.com DOES NOT FUNCTION. I was encouraged to sign up for electronic communications and receipt of EOBs. Yet, when I logged into the above website using either Safari, Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer and try to view EOBs (or view information about my benefits) I get a "white screen." I called a "web specialist" and they said they are aware that the website has a problem and know about the white screen and have been trying to fix it for a "long time" and are getting similar complaints from others who are unable to access information on their site. I was told that they currently ONLY support browser version which are 5 years old (REALLY!) and do not support updated software.

I am told that I can not request paper versions of my EOBs because that must be done on the website. [But, I get a white screen and can not use the website. Oh, sorry!!! ] This situation is not acceptable. AARP/United Health Care is willing take my premiums but don't prioritize providing information to me after they get my funds!!!!! Arrrrgh! AARP should threaten to withdraw their trademark naming until UHC provides an acceptable service. Shame on United Health Care and AARP.

I called the 800 number which was on the letter I received from AARP-UHC dated 03-07-17 stating a claim had been denied by my supplement policy because I had Medicare Complete. I evidently must have signed up for this program over the phone. I get my care at the VA along with my meds. I have had the supplement policy for 4-5 years now and have been very happy with the coverage and payment of claims. I simply want to cancel the Medicare Complete policy. I have spent an hour on the phone going through a myriad of phone prompts that got me to the wrong department.

I talked to three representatives who all said they could not cancel my policy. I kept asking for a supervisor but never was connected to anyone with the authority to cancel this policy. They signed me up over the phone and I can't understand why they can't cancel me over the phone. This surely cannot be as difficult to accomplish as they are making it. Is there a Veteran's representative that I can contact to get this situation taken care of? After being on hold several times, being transferred several times I am really upset that a health insurance company is causing my blood pressure to rise.

I am a writer, and I have written a blog about my experience with AARP Medicare Complete HMO - it is below: I usually like to write about things I know about, but today isn’t one of those days. I am a moron when it comes to insurance, and I really don’t care to learn more about it. But, in order to get by in life without major headaches, we really do need to have a basic knowledge of insurance. Otherwise, you may get into a mess just like the one I am in right now.

Since 2014, I’ve had Medicare for my insurance because I am on disability for complex spinal problems. I usually buy additional Part D coverage for my prescriptions. But last year, I had particularly high medical bills, so I looked for secondary coverage to help cover expenses this year. I looked up plans available in my area, and during my research, I came across the AARP Medicare Complete HMO.

This plan sounded great! For just $89 per month, there are no co-pays for visits to your primary care physician and $25 co-pays for visits to specialist. In addition this plan has some dental and hearing coverage which I need. Prescription coverage was good for me too as it covered most of my medications. I was so happy when I signed up and breathed a sigh of relief thinking that my coverage was very much improved.

That feeling of confidence quickly faded into nothingness this week. I have had problems with my right knee for years, but this past weekend, I injured it somehow which led to searing pain in the front of my kneecap. I was barely able to walk. Stairs were particularly hard – I had to take them one stair at a time without bending my hurt knee. A day after the injury, I was unable to fully straighten my knee, and any attempt to bend it resulted in severe pain. I put ice on it and rested for about 1 1/2 days, and the symptoms improved, but the pain never fully went away.

This week, I made an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. **. I had seen him several times in the past about my hip and knee. He had even x-ray'd my knee previously and determined that I had chondromalacia in my right knee. Yesterday, I went to his office only to find out that since I was now in a HMO, I had to have a referral before I could see him. Ugh.

This morning, I had an appointment to see my primary care doctor, Dr. **. When I explained to her that I needed a referral, she looked confused. “But I thought you were on Medicare,” she said. I replied, “Yes, but I got additional insurance this year. It’s a HMO, and I guess I now need referrals to see specialists.” She looked confused and then told me that her office may not accept this new insurance. I was stunned. She left to check it out and came back without any further information. The billing manager for the office wasn’t there today, and she really couldn’t tell me if they would accept the new insurance or not, and she wasn’t sure if she could give the referral.

I went straight home, really angry and irritated by what I had just learned about this new insurance. Honestly, I have no idea how all this works. I don’t know all the specifics of how HMOs are run. I called United Healthcare and told the young lady on the other end of the phone that I was confused and irritated that I had been to two doctors, both of which could not treat my knee because of insurance issues. She explained that I still have Medicare, but it’s now all under United Healthcare. I’m still not exactly sure how it all works, but I did learn that I can’t go to any specialists without a referral. Everything has to go through a primary care doctor when insurance is a HMO.

At one point, she offered to give me a one-time referral while everything was being looked at regarding my primary care doctor. Well, it turns out that Dr. ** isn’t a preferred provider, so United Healthcare could not give a referral to that doctor. OK, so now my patience was running quite thin. Then I asked her to check and see if my spinal surgeon, Dr. **, was a preferred provider. This was of utmost importance to me as I had absolutely no intention of leaving him. After two failed spinal fusions, Dr. ** was able to successfully fuse my spine in 2012. He had been my trusted spinal doctor since that time, and I will not go to anyone else.

Well, it turns out that Dr. ** wasn’t a preferred provider either!! At that point, she said that one of the options was to discontinue this AARP plan and go back to original Medicare. I was confused… I thought we could only change plans during the open season (Oct – Dec). She said that I could still change it now, so I agreed with her, saying that if Dr. ** wasn’t in the plan, I had to leave. I asked her if I could get a Part D plan for prescription coverage, and she said yes. She put me on hold, and I waited for quite a while, but when she came back on the phone, she apologized for the wait and told me that she was going to get another lady on the phone who would be able to discontinue the plan. The call was transferred, and I began the discussion with the second lady.

This second lady proceeded to tell me that she could not discontinue the plan over the phone. WTH?? The first lady told me otherwise. Now I was really getting mad. She gave me a list of ways that I could discontinue, and I chose to do it online. She told me to go to http://www.aarpmedicareplans.com and fill out the form on the site. After asking me a bunch of questions, she told me that I could get part D ONLY if they approve my request to discontinue the plan. WTH?? They might not approve it??

So, I asked the lady for clarification – “So, they may NOT approve my request to discontinue the plan?” Her answer was “yes”. At that point, I was so disgusted that I ended the call. I went to http://www.aarpmedicareplans.com and did not find any form to discontinue the plan. I decided to send an e-mail that detailed why I was so disgusted with United Healthcare and this AARP plan. They have since sent a notice to me that a case had been opened.

This plan is awful. If I stay with this plan, I would basically have to start over. All the doctors that I have been going to for years and who know all the details of my health over the past ten years or so are not included in this HMO plan – ALL of them!! I would have to start over with all new doctors. In addition, the first spine doctor that I had screwed up my back. It wasn’t until I went to Dr. ** that my spine was finally stabilized. I am NOT willing to go to just any doctor…some doctor that some HMO says I can go to… to treat my complex spinal issues!! Beware of the AARP Medicare Complete HMO plan. It’s one thing if just ONE of my doctors wasn’t in the plan… but NONE of them are in the plan!! This should be a BIG RED FLAG to all those looking for good health coverage through AARP. Shame on you, AARP, for promoting this insurance plan!!

Update: I received an e-mail saying that they are forwarding my complaint to the Appeals and Grievance Department and that they would get back to me in 30 days. 30 DAYS!!! What about now? I have this knee pain and need to see my orthopedic doctor now!! But God forbid that they do their job and address this now… no, go on ahead and take 30 days… that’s no problem at all (obvious sarcasm). By the time they finish pushing around all the papers, it will probably be open season again. Pathetic!

I work in the senior health market. I'm independent and I just stumbled onto these reviews while searching for another topic. What really bothers me is when I sit down with Medicare beneficiaries and try to tell them what I do know about AARP so many swear by them and believe they are some sort of senior advocacy group. Are you aware that they overcharge for supplements 5% every month in addition to making you buy an annual subscription to their magazine?

Are you aware that congress was lobbying to have their nonprofit status removed because of it? Not to mention they don't even offer Plan G which is the most cost effective Plan. Their rates increase dramatically and I can replace them all day long and save seniors hundreds a year. Today I took a woman from 220 a month to 155 payment a month. It really is a shame to see these stories, so many are a victim to their tireless advertising and co branding. Same holds true on the li
