We have been with AARP Medigap plan f for almost 15 years and it has been a positive experience until now. Plan F no longer accepts new enrolment, this causes large premium increases and united healthcare will not let us transfer to plan G which is less expensive. I would not recommend aarp medigap supplemental plans because at some point no one but Warren Buffet will be able to afford plan f because ever decreasing pool of insured.

While I haven't had any issues with coverage, I recently switched to another Medicare supplement company. UnitedHealthcare took out the next month's premium. I called to get a credit on Dec 2 and the rep seemed more confused than me and said I would be getting a credit since the premium was already debited from my checking account. A week later, Dec 9, I called as I have not received the credit, and I was told it would take 15 days to credit my account. I told him this was unacceptable. He put me on hold multiple times then said 10 - 15 days for the refund to be processed which should not have been deducted in the first place. The another person came on and told me it would be 30 days for the refund to be processed??? This is insane!

My MRI copay is $225 and the total cost is $335.08 and AARP pays $110.08 (in network). Out of network 40% of the cost which I would have to pay $201.05. How is this beneficial to me when I am paying premiums and the lionshare of the cost of service.

Not worth the money. AARP should be embarrassed by these programs. I cancelled my supplement in April of 2025 and have found that paying the 20% that Medicare does not pay is much less expensive than than AARP's supplement insurance thru United Healthcare. I think AARP counts on seniors believing they are looking out for us when they are just another indifferent large organization. Do you think a large insurance company like United Healthcare is looking out for anyone other than themselves and their top executives??

I agree with the previous negative reviews. I have not been able to get any of my prescriptions covered. They are common prescriptions like **, ** and asthma inhalers. First, they said that I was using the wrong pharmacy. They said that CVS is not a tier 1 pharmacy and that Walgreens is tier 1. Then they said that ** must be called ** to be considered the generic brand. Then they said that my doctor did not give my condition as a condition that Medicare considers valid for **. After all the run around with the inhalers, they said that there are no tier 1 inhalers for asthma. I wish that I had not signed up for this.

While I have had very good experiences from United Health Care, I have also had bad ones. The good experience was a representative helping me get a difficult to get provider. The bad one was when they agreed to pay for my out of pocket dental cleaning, $68, and I sent them the info in writing, they never paid it. Then they wanted me to send the info again in writing. Why on earth would I do that?

I just received a letter from AARP/United Healthcare stating they will not cover One Touch Meters they will only Accucheck or Contour meters that are the old prick your finger meters. I have had the One Touch for five years. Having the ability to check my sugars 10 or 15 times a day and adjust my insulin based on better information has lowered my A1C three points to 6.5. This has become important to my health. I am currently the longest time with a Xenotransplant of a genetically edited pig kidney. This is cutting edge science that requires multiple readings daily. Having less information to adjust my meds is critical important to the health of my kidney and therefore my health. I feel you are risking my health by removing to vital tool.

Not easy to find providers that accept this policy. Customer service not very helpful. Frustrating spend all day and only found one doctor when I actually needed three. Will try again tomorrow. Be very patient.

Recently enrolled in this plan for Medicare Part D. So far they've already have tried to start this pre-authorization stuff on a medication I was assured they would pay for. That is why I chose this plan. Not a good start. Also, I received an email stating that my premium was past due. After speaking with a rep, I was told the email was regarding the premium for next month that is NOT EVEN DUE yet, which I find very unprofessional.

I have a medigap plan that started at $115 per month premium 4 years ago and now is $171 per month. They start you off with a low premium to get you and then it’s too late. They shouldn’t be allowed to rip off seniors. AARP should be ashamed of themselves promoting United Healthcare.

The application process was unnerving for my husband. We applied online and had to call multiple times only to learn that the application was pending. One customer service after the other all gave different reasons, none of which was that the review was then not submitted to enrollment, nor would it go to underwriting, unless all corrections were made. The first major correction is that the AARP membership address has to match the application. We live in a residence that does not have mail delivery, so we use a PO Box. A PO Box address is unacceptable to AARP, so we changed both to our residence address. Therefore, we didn't get the cards, brochures, or notifications on the application process. A big standstill. You have to call and check every day, but we just learned that each time you contact them, it extends their decision 5-7 working days, so, 8 weeks in and still no resolution.

I started the AARP plan after using other plans for 22 years. Every plan I have had provided good and bad experiences, until now. The AARP heath care advantage plan has ZERO good points. They overbilled me the first month. They notified me that Gym benefits were no longer available. The customer service number connected me with a nice person who had English as their 3rd language. I was on hold for 20 minutes with insipid "music" then I was disconnected. I could continue on with the litany of horrors but enough. I would advise those who want these experiences to enroll in the AARP plan.

I started out with United Healthcare. Was impressed at first but now they went up on monthly fee. I was able to go to gym to stay healthy. When they went up on price they took away my free gym membership and all others that went to gym that had the same insurance. I had the premium gym access. Now they want to drop it to a regular gym which don't have half the stuff like YMCA does. Which the closest to me is 55 miles away or they offer on demand workouts. What a joke. The gym was my incentive. Now a lot of seniors won't be able to stay healthy. I recommend never getting this insurance. I will be looking for other company.

I'm in Wisconsin (has unique requirements and strictures for Part B Supplement plans) & will soon turn 65 and will then be a Medicare client.
(1) I am considering joining an AARP/UnitedHealthcare Medigap/Part B Supplement policy & noted it was the only one that was "Community Rated", the note by which suggested I'd pay the same premium whether I was 65 or 85. Wasn't the cheapest by far but the "community rated" vs "age rated" premium sounded attractive. Went to sign up, on about the 4th screen, noticed there was a 'discount' of around 50%. What is this? I wondered. Fortunately I'd sent for a brochure... Turns out, the premium escalates as you age and an 86 year old would pay about twice as much as a 65 year old. I consider it deceptive advertising; this is actually age-rated then.
(2) Many of the one-star reviews confuse Advantage plans with Medigap/Part B Supplement plans. Not at all the same. This category is about Medigap & not about Advantage, so those reviews & complaints don't apply here.

AARP / United Healthcare refused to accept and honor a claim I filed after AARP / United Healthcare Advantage recouped a $407.90 charge 16 MONTHS after they paid the claim submitted by my service provider. This happened during the time I was changing coverage from a United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plan to a United Healthcare Supplemental Plan. I was never informed that my coverage had changed before the service was provided, continuing to believe at the time that I was still covered under my Medicare Advantage plan.
United Healthcare steadfastly held that since the refiled claim and appeal was made more than 12 months later, the claim was denied, regardless of responsibility. I do not know whether Medicare Advantage deliberately or unintentionally waited 16 months to recoup the charge so that any subsequent claim would be denied. Either way the results are the same and I was stuck with the consequences of Medicare Advantage's two failures (1) to validate my coverage in the first instance and, (2) to recoup the charges in a timely manner so that my provider could re-file the claim with United Healthcare. I had no choice to pay my service provider the amount United Healthcare should have paid.

Be VERY wary of United Health Care Supplemental plans. I have been with them since I first got on Medicare 11 years ago, and up to this point they have been fine, as I've had no problems. The reason I first chose UHC was because their pricing is not "age relate". That is you get a discount the first 10 years, that is reduced each year for the first 10 years, then after that, unlike other plans your price would NOT be increased because of your age. So for the long term that sounded like the more affordable way to go.
On the first year after the initial 10 years, my $274 a month plan F went to 383.75 about a 40% increase. I have now trying for more than 3 weeks to get someone to look at my account. I have spoken to 4 supervisors, 2 customer advocates, all of whom said they would refer it to the person who could help me, and they would get back to me in a few days. Never heard back, after 11 years you don't expect to be treated like total garbage. Stay away, or definitely switch to another company before your 10 years up. You've been warned.

I enrolled in Medicare supplemental and they did the ole bait and switch. They offered the plan for $200 and then after submitted when I was unable to go back on the application screen changed the plan to a plan over $400 per month. I am perfectly healthy and have no underlying health concerns and would fall under the lowest level. The response from customer care was so concerning with a lack of concern and the most generic response offering no solution. A BBB complaint is being filed along with attorney general's complaint and I suggest others in this situation to do the same! This is a scam! I believe there is an insurance commission that you can send a complaint to as well.

Absolutely the worst Medicare supplemental insurance. I switched to them specifically to obtain hearing aids. They were advertised as $99 per aid. Called them. Couldn't get a real person for about 15 minutes and when they did they didn't speak good English and I couldn't understand them. Finally found out these are over the counter hearing aids but they said I could get aids for a hearing aid center for $199 per aid. Nope.... they are in "negotiations" with the hearing aid manufacturers now. I'm afraid to even make any doctors appointments as I don't feel like they will even cover anything!!!!. Guess I don't to the doctor this year.

There is more than can be said here, but this will provide a general impression: UHC does not use email to process claims--only SnailMail or fax. UHC requires 30 days to confirm receipt of a fax! You cannot follow up on a claim issue with a specific rep. Every time you call, you will explain every detail of every issue every time. Websites and passwords frequently change. Do not use a symbol character in your password. The system will not recognize you or permit you to log on and will not tell you what you're doing "wrong." Know your co-pay. You may be told it is higher than it actually is.
In two separate hospital day surgeries, the healthcare providers were instructed by UHC to collect incorrect "patient responsibility amounts" resulting in me OVERPAYING. It took a year before UHC admitted that the member must get a "recoupment letter" from the hospital to recover OVERPAYMENT. The website does not show what YOU pay to your healthcare provider--resulting in member OVERPAYMENT. Thus your out-of-pocket $ is generally understated resulting in....OVERPAYMENT. Hospitals have a year to submit claims so don't hold your breath waiting for claims to be settled. Then come the UHC phone and onLine mysteries: The system does not recognize member ID # unless you leave off the -00 suffix on membership card. Search tools are limited; listed providers are frequently inaccurate, misrepresented, or out of date.
If a claim issue is not resolved in 5 days, it becomes "stale" and the claim is CLOSED. The member is not so informed. When you realize your claim is unresolved, you will call back--and start over. Expect a litany of Alice in Wonderland transfers from department to department with a plethora of Black Holes from which few have escaped. Above all, get a call reference # and keep detailed notes. Know what your benefits are. Formal complaints to CMS face this Catch 22: UHC decides if a complaint rises to the level of CMS-worthy attention. These Medicare Advantage Plans get a CMS reimbursement capitation rate of~$12,000/pp (2019). Next step to recover overpayments? Contact my senator? Will be investigating other plan options. Good luck and caveat emptor... As Scarlet said, "Tomorrow is another day."

I switched from Blue Cross Blue Shield to AARP Medicare Advantage last year and I will not be back next year. I have had recurring issues with them paying what they say they are going to pay. For instance, on their summary of benefits, there is no mention on in or out of network. It just states that there is a $200 eyeglasses benefit. So I went to my enycare provider and bought glasses. I submitted the claim and it was denied because they said it was out of network/ I said it is a PPO, and that their summary of benefits does not say anything about network. In fact, they use a third party vendor for vision care and that company rep said that a lot of people have the same issue. Months later, they still have the same inaccurate info on their summary of benefits, and I am still fighting them for the $200. UHC is either deceptive, lazy, or ignorant in this regard.
Next, they tell me a provider is in network, and then they fail to pay that provider because they say it is not in network. It's in network, but they delay payments for 90 days, which can then be sent to collections. I called them and they said they were still reviewing the invoice nearly 90 days later. I told them if they ignore their own bills for 90 days and wait for a collections notice? They finally paid it. But then they send me summary saying that they are paying zero to the same provider because it is not in network, although they paid that same provider a couple months earleir. Now I have to waste my time claling them again, or the provider wil send me the bill. Again, Again, UHC is either deceptive, lazy, or ignprant in this regard.
On a Friday afternoon I was prescribed a drug that I needed to take that evening. I show up at the prescription window and ask for the drug. They tell me that UHC needs to talk to the doctor first! Why? Who knows. It's a generic drug. So I asked the attendant what the cost was through Good Rx. She gave me the cost and I said fill it. UHC would have waited hours to get through to a doctor on a Friday afternoon. Again, UHC is either deceptive, lazy, or ignprant in this regard.
Last year I had very limited issues with BCBS, but my medical providers no longer accepted that pan so I went to UHC AARP where I spend hours trying to straighten out their messes. They know better, but they will make your life miserable because they are either deceptive, lazy or ignorant. Those are just a few incidences of poor quality, confusion, and deception. They may lure you in with $200 a year in OTC products, but then they will start to tighten the screws. My recommendation is, Be wary!

I reached out to several dental and ophthalmology practices listed on the UHC provider website for a practice that accepts AARP Medicare Advantage Plan 2 with Dental /Vision plan. Every practice (at least 6 in the area) I called told me they do not have a current contract with AARP UHC and have not had one for over a year. The current directory UHC shows on their website is very outdated. The Dental/Vision coverage is what attracted me to the plan initially. The dental and vision coverage offered on the AARP Medicare Advantage plans is basically a deception and in my opinion a fraudulent way to market their product to seniors.

Stay away from AARP United Healthcare MedicarePlans. I have their Medicare Advantage PPO Choice. Each year this plan gets worse. Expensive in the end with procedures and tests that suddenly aren't covered, high RX co-pays or non coverage, decrease in the numbers of participating physicians and hospitals. Customer service is non existent. You can talk to 3 people about the same issue and they will respond with 3 different solutions or not know anything at all about the issue. They also are great at disconnecting calls. Website issues are a nightmare. It has been over 2 months that I have been unable to log in to my account to see any of my claims or benefits. All I ever get upon logging in is an error screen that says "It's not you, it's us".
I have three technical support tickets opened about the login issue without resolution. I have not been able to speak to a technical support supervisor nor does anyone ever escalate the issue. I have been promised a call back from both technical support and a supervisor which has never happened. In April, 2022 I called to initiate a dispute for what I suspect was overcharges by a member hospital and physician for an outpatient procedure that was billed at over $100,000.00. I never received a response to the dispute. I doubt that customer service agents even know or understand what a dispute is. Nor do they care. This has been an ongoing nightmare and I urge you to stay away from AARP United Healthcare.

I called my Rx plan to find out why my prescription was denied as written. I was told I was connected to the wrong department and that they would have to connect me to someone else. After waiting 5 minutes to be connected to someone else, they told me that I had been connected to the wrong person again and now had to be connected to yet another person. After waiting again, a new person came on, asked for my information and once again told me I was connected to the wrong person. This was a merry go round that was obviously never going to end, so I finally hung up. If you're looking for an Rx plan, I'd strongly suggest using someone else.

We changed to AARP Medicare Advantage in 2022, due to a change in our prescriptions. We logged into the website and entered all of our prescription drugs and the prices were better than with Humana Medicare plan. This is not true. My husband takes a very expensive medicine for thunderclap headaches. They gave us 1 month of coverage and then it had to go to their review panel. Of course we did not know this until we changed to them.
We have moved and could not get an appointment with a new neurologist that quick. I called to ask them to cover 1 more month. I have talked to 2 different customer service representatives and 1 supervisor. They said they would resolve and get back to us the same day. I have spent at least 3 hours on the phone, talking and holding, and still do not have an answer. The cost for 1 month without their coverage is $770+. We made a huge mistake changing companies and even though this is the first review I have written thought I needed to let others know. Health insurance is very important!

I had no options but to go on a Medicare Advantage plan. I had no choice but to use the plan that UHC is a part of because no other plans covered specific Drs that only the UHC would cover. My biggest mistake was in trusting that I would have the coverage needed, especially during the Covid pandemic! But I was absolutely wrong! I'm already covered for a parts A&B & have been since 2006 with regular Medicare being my secondary insurance to my husband's employer based insurance through Union Pacific Railroad & even more sad it is actually through UHC Railroad!
I had a terrible experience in attempting to make sure my Parts C&D were covered. Contacted UHC, my US state Representative & wasted so much time on this that the 2 months when I needed to contact the arbitrary company it was too late. NO ONE had told me about this! I was denied coverage because they said I didn't have coverage - going back 10 years. They covered medical without question... I then began receiving a monthly bill for Part C coverage, which they had no intention to cover it! IMHO AARP MEDICARE ADVANTAGE UHC is nothing but a fraudulent scam.
