After the dealer had my mower since may 3 of 2015, today I'm told that your company Toro will not honor the warranty! I paid cash for this new mower Sept 23, 2012. Could only use it a couple of times as grass cutting was coming to an end. Used it all last summer and then towards the end of the summer it started to smoke, why I don't know. Put it in the shop where I bought it. Now today being the 11th of June 2015, I'm told motor not covered! I was told that the air filter needed to be changed it was plugged. How could that be when I used a wet dry vacuum to clean it after I cut the grass! Maybe the mower was used only about 30 hours, now it takes a crap? What kind of junk are you people putting out? Never again will I ever buy another Toro product again! If some ask's me about Toro mower's, well all I'm going to say is "don't waste your money, Toro does not honor it's warranty"!!!!!!

Do you remember the days when Spring came and you put fresh gas in your lawn mower, changed the oil and spark plug, cleaned your air filter and you were good to go? If you do, then the Toro 22in Recycler Mower is NOT for you. I purchased one new in April 2012 and it has suffered from chronic problems, most of which center around the finicky and erratic Kohler Engine, ever since it came out of the box. If you purchase this machine, expect it to require the services of a professional mechanic on an annual basis, and don't be surprised if your annual maintenance and repair costs regularly exceed $100.

You should also read your owners manuals - yes there are separate ones for the mower and the engine - from cover to cover, as this machine requires extensive and complicated maintenance and ANY deviation from the prescribed service schedule could void your warranty, including Toros' ''guaranty to start in the first three years of ownership." If you have a small yard like mine, you are probably better off buying something smaller, cheaper, simpler, more reliable, dependable, and easier to maintain. Actually, regardless of the size of your yard, you're probably better off buying ANYTHING else or calling a lawn service!

Toro super recycler - I bought this mower a little over a year ago to replace an old Lawn-Boy that I had had for years. The Lawn-Boy was an awesome mower but died after 18 years of use. The new Toro was ok for a few weeks but then began to run poorly. This year, it still runs poorly and it hardly picks up any grass. It just leaves large clumps of grass in my yard instead of putting it in the discharge bag. For how expensive the mower was, I was hoping it would work a whole lot better than it does.

Bought new from Home Depot, the 22 inch recycler front drive runs well. What it does not do is keep grass in the bag. The top seal is exactly worthless and shoots grass EVERYWHERE. Then when you take the bag off to stow there are sectioned baffles in the bag lid on the mower, inside lid and out, that fill up with grass. What a mess. Designers for Toro need one of these placed firmly where the sun doesn't shine. The absolutely most worthless mower in my life.

Was cutting grass today and the seat on the mower (Toro Zero turn Mower) slid forward with no warning. Found the hinge on the seat was broken. Lucky that I did not slide off mower or step to the ground with mower running. Has anyone else had this same problem? Saw online same problem. Is there a safety issue on this?

After waiting a month for the Toro 30" double blade mower and paying $1,000, it stopped running after 30 minutes the first time mowing. It took 45 minutes to cool and I was able to start it again. I called the dealer who suggested a few things to look for and said he would make it right if it didn't run, but wouldn't be able to look at it for a couple of weeks since he's so busy with other mowers. I asked for a new mower, but he said Toro would NOT replace the mower with a new one. I tried mowing again for the 2nd time. It ran for 40 minutes and died. After 30 minutes of cooling, it ran again for 40 minutes and died again. There seems to be a vapor lock problem as the gas is not getting to the fuel filter and the engine is running very hot. I will be returning the mower to the dealer today.

On April 14, 2015 I brought my Toro lawn mower Model 20197, Serial #310003988 to Center Hardware in Berlin, Connecticut since the self-propelled function was working. Center Hardware is the authorized dealer and repair facility where I purchased the mower. I informed the service technician that I believed the problem was with the transmission since the belt was not broken. The technician indicated that it would be about 7 to 10 days before they could make the repair. When I contacted Center Hardware on April 24, 2015, they indicated that they had not even had a chance to inspect the mower yet. They indicated that if the mower did not need parts it would be repaired in a few days and if a part was required it would be another week.

When I contacted the facility again on May 2nd they still had not inspected the mower. They did call me back less than an hour later indicating that they determined that a new transmission was needed. They indicated that they would order the part on Monday, May 4th and that they should have the part on May 5th and the mower should be repaired by May 6th. When I called Center Hardware on May 6th they indicated that they have not yet received the part. It has now been 22 days and the repair has not been made and I have been without a mower to cut my lawn for 3 weeks. I called the Toro Customer Care Department in Minnesota (**) and the representative indicated that there was nothing they could do about the situation other than make a note of it. The representative indicated that 3 to 4 weeks for a warranty repair was not unusual.

I am writing this review so that other people will understand that while Toro has a five year warranty on its mowers - customers should expect to be without a mower for a month when warranty work is needed. I will never buy another Toro product or purchase anything from Center Hardware. I will urge my friends to also beware!

6 seasons ago when I spent $2,800.00 on my Z422 Riding Mower, Model 74363 Zero turn, I was not aware how poor the quality and continued cost it would burden me. Within the 1st year I had to replace one of the tires and subsequently I had to replace a dead battery and then the defective muffler broke apart and fell off. Even though I was informed by a mechanic that it was a defective issue on the muffler that Toro had, Toro was only willing to pay for half of the new muffler. Now I am being informed that the engine needs rebuild and the cost will be $1,600.00. I feel that their product is not up to any kind of standard. I feel that Toro is not a reputable company and they are unable to supply a quality product and support. I never heard back from Toro after writing to them about this issue.

I bought an SR4 Super Recycler Toro to replace my 16-year-old John Deere walk behind. The John Deere was an excellent lawn mower for picking up gumballs from the Sweet Gum tree which is the bane of Henrico county in Virginia. I rarely had to do any raking to clean up my yard. The John Deere did it all. The Toro on the other hand is a miserable replacement. It either leaves the gumballs on the ground or it slings them to other parts of the lawn. What it doesn't do is pick them up and put them into the discharge bag. I complained to the CEO of Toro, but of course received no reply whatsoever. I suspect their lawn mower engineers are located overseas and have never mowed a lawn in their lives. Recommendation: If you live in Virginia, don't buy a Toro. Also, service in the Richmond area is absolutely miserable. Six weeks waiting time typically. There are so many things that don't work on Toros, the service centers are swamped.

I bought a new toro lawn mower at ogden lawn and garden Oct. 2013. Last year the housing of the air filter kept falling off. I took it to where I bought it. They said “oh the air filter is the wrong size.” I said “it was the one that came with the mower.” They put a different size on. It still fell off. I finished the season by putting it back on when it fell off. It done the same this year. On my second mowing I did not notice it and ran over it and broke it. I just back to ogden law and garden. Last year I had it in for repairs when it quit running- it was only a year old. Of course the warranty did not cover it. I have had sears mowers last 10 years. This one is not even 2 years old. Next mower I will look at sears.

I was a fan of the personal pace toro mowers but not now. The first one lasted nearly 10 years but the second one was waste of time and money. They have changed the construction of the moving parts such as power drive to plastic and the latest mower only lasted 1.5 years. After three attempts to have the toro dealer fix the power drive I will never purchase another. The plastic parts in the drive mechanism would not last and was taking the mower back to the dealer after only one pass of mowing the lawn. The wheels would stop moving and I ended up pushing the mower with the wheels dragging to finish the lawn. The dealer finally said that there was nothing else he could do so I'm going to buy another brand this spring. Toro has moved to cheap plastic parts that simply do not last!!

The string spool retainer broke and I tried to order a new one. The first attempt got me the wrong parts because the woman I spoke with didn't know a cover shield from a spool retainer and gave me the part number for a cover shield. I had my Toro dealer order two of them and got cover shields instead of spool retainers. I wrote a letter to Toro's Consumer Services department explaining the problem and that I couldn't use my String Trimmer without the spool retainers. Suffice to say, a lovely lady named Liz solved the problems, got me a refund for the incorrect parts, got me the two spool retainers I originally tried to order, and even tossed in a couple of extra spools of line. Thank you Liz and thank you Toro.

I purchased a 22 inch recycler mower from home depot in July 2013 with a 2 year warranty and a 3 year start guarantee. Needless to say it stopped starting in little over a year. I contacted Toro and they told me to take it to an authorized repair shop. I did and they told me it was the carburetor and that the ethanol from gas had ruined it. And that that was my fault and that it was not covered. I contacted Toro to get a better understanding and the customer service woman again said that was my fault even though I informed her that in Massachusetts we can't buy gas without ethanol. When I explained that to her she said sorry and hung up the phone on me. I spoke to the repair man and he said Toro doesn't make a mower that can handle gas with ethanol and that's there out to the warranty. DON'T BUY TORO! Horrible customer service, horrible product.

Toro Model # 20371 Internet # 203068808 Store SKU # 731533 - Home Depot: 22 in. high wheel variable speed self-propelled gas lawn mower. I started having problems after one year... It would sputter a bit but then would be ok next summer. Year 2 - just stopped working. I had a yard man cut and left in shed till next spring. The 2 year warranty was almost over. So, the dealer an authorized repair center said it was a dirty carb and filter... not covered. I paid, took it home, started and got half the yard done before sputtering and stopping. Took it back and it started for them... and was told to use fresh gas, which I did. Got it home and it died again in a few minutes. Took it back and left it.

This time they said the carb needed to be rebuilt, covered by warranty. Got it home, it worked and I got to mow almost half the yard till sputtered - had gas coming out of the exhaust and air filter. Took it back again. They contacted Kohler who said the gas is to blame because of plastic parts dissolve and clog the carb. They replaced the carb supposedly with the bad design. You can't really tell where anything is. I contacted Toro and they said “Sorry, maybe if you send the receipt for the carb cleaning maybe Toro will comp you.” To do this would have been a pain and it sounded like a long shot. Kohler just blamed me for using old gas and not premium gas. No apologies for the shoddy engine and carb.

Dealer said it is a nationwide issue and Kohler has not said it would replace the engine or have a recall. Well, it worked this time... but still there was a sputter and little rough running. Of course, I knew it was only a matter of time before it died. I used it the mower about 7 times over the summer and into the fall. I used fresh gas and did leave gas in it while it stored. I cleaned air filter. It died last week. Will start and run for a few minutes and die. I left in the shed with a half tank of gas last week. I tried to start this week but all the gas was gone - a new issue. The housing for the filter is plastic and has tabs to hold the filter in place. They failed this week too. I haven't called the dealer yet... but since the warranty is over, I guess I will get “Oh sorry, bring it in and will fix for $$$.”

Kohler engine is junk and should be replaced by Toro. They blame the gas when the engine is junk. My neighbor has an old Honda mower from the early 90's and it works fine with reg gas and he stores it with gas with no problems. I never had issues with an old Craftsman. I had that died after 7 years and I should have known Toro was not that great as my last mower was a Toro and it lasted maybe 4 years. But I will never buy Toro or anything with Kohler. There should be a class action suit against Toro and Kohler... It could be hazardous when gas pours thru the exhaust and filter when starting the engine.

I bought a Toro Recycler 22" (Model 20370) in March 2012. I didn't have any manufacturing defects, and I never had any problems with it. It always started on the 1st try though the 3-year warranty guaranteed it would start in 3 or less. I see a lot of complaints on here are for user-error and common to all mowers. Toro has great customer service, and I plan to use them for a long time. Unfortunately, mine was stolen from my carport recently. I can pull about 10" out and still make it start, but I can't figure out how to recoil the rest of the cord and make it fully operational. Any thoughts! Around August of 2013 I need a walk-behind lawnmower. The 30" turf master appeared to be the mower I needed. It was the worst purchase I've made on a two thousand dollar lemon. Two months after I purchased the mower, it wouldn't cut grass 1/2 inch to the setting. It stayed in the shop two weeks. One week after getting the mower out of the shop, the wheel axle bent. To make a long story short and four more axles on the same wheel. The mower spent more time in the shop than on the grass.

After the ninth time at the shop in eight months, the Toro rep came out, had the mower overhauled and voided my two-year warranty. The hardware store said I need to make lemonade out of lemons. What a joke. I asked to upgrade to a better mower but was turned down. It's been a little over a year now and the mower just came out of the shop after it was there for 21 days. All I can say is STAY AWAY FROM THE TURF MASTER MOWERS. BUY A SNAPPER. I'VE HAD ONE FOR FIVE YEARS AND NO MAJOR PROBLEMS.

We bought a Toro 22in Recycler Lawn Mower Model #20371 from Home Depot. Originally we were satisfied, however after 8 months of use it developed a fuel leak from the fuel cap area that grew progressively worse. Initially, we thought the cap was not installed properly, however, upon further investigation we found the plastic fuel tank filler port was elongated and although the cap could be installed it could not properly seal. We notified Toro multiple times, as it is a warranty issue and took the lawnmower to Home Depot as the nearest Toro authorized maintenance facility was over 150 miles away. We discovered lawnmowers at Home Depot with the same problem. We feel this is a manufacturing defect and is a serious safety concern and have notified Toro of this multiple times, but they feel it's an isolated issue as they don't have data on this problem. They were willing to replace the fuel tank; however we felt, that due to the poor design of the fuel tank, we would continue to have the same problem. Home Depot provided a refund to us and be bought the Honda lawn mower which we like very much.

I bought this Toro 30 inch Time Master mower and immediately started having issues. I thought it may have been me at first but it was leaving a trail of grass uncut. After 2 attempts and having to cut my grass 2 times each time I finally took it in for service. So they added a ("Product Improvement") to my mower installing a baffle and new high lift blades. A few more times and the first time I used mower height adjustment the adjustment cracked. The mower also bogs down with cutting any wet or slightly high grass. The mower also does not turn over on the first start with the electric start. I have contacted Toro on this. I was told by the supervisor Liz continuing to bring the product back in for service (Which is very inconvenient due to its size and weight) is an acceptable practice. It is way too expensive to be piece mailed back together for a 4 month old machine with now 4 items already needing to be replaced. Supervisor Liz even said even with a catastrophic failure (engine etc) they will not refund your money or replace the machine they will only repair it. For this kind of Money get a different machine. With this experience this was my first Toro and definitely my last.

If not, can we initiate one to teach Toro that they cannot keep on selling a defective product.

Purchase a personnel pace mower a few years ago. Still works great today. Moved to a house with a lot larger lawn and decided to purchase in July of 2011 a SS 4235 Zero Turn mower. Worked fine the first season. In May of 2012, the mower would not start. Took it in to the dealer and they replaced the starter. Worked fine again. In July of 2012, same problem, so took it back to the dealer where they replaced the starter, again. Same story again in May of 2013 and now I am again having the same problem. 3 year warranty and they are having to replace the starter for the 4th time. Very frustrating. I would like to get a different, more reliable mower, but I doubt that will happen. Will not buy another Toro mower.

Bought my Toro recycling mower 9/2013. Worked three times. Stored in heated garage over winter and it refuses to start this spring. Brought it to dealer who had me sign a release saying that if it wasn't covered by warranty, I would pay for the work done. Mower says guaranteed to start on top! Ha! Have read of others having the same problem. Service told me it was probably "bad gas" but ran it dry this fall and has new gas in it.

Then he said it needed premium gas because of smaller injectors. Had a Toro recycler for twelve years and it worked fine. Have used this one three times and it won't start. Service told me that the "guaranteed to start" on the engine didn't imply a warranty! Will see what happens. I have the means to sue, and probably will if it appears that the "guarantee" is a sham. What happened to this company and their products? Anybody in on this?

This product should be recalled due to all the complaints about not running due to clogged carburetors. No matter that you follow all instructions, PURCHASE NEW GAS FOR EACH USE, it is constantly in the shop and they always say bad or old gas. This mower is a piece of garbage as everyone who was foolish enough to purchase it knows. Toro does NOT give a darn about their swindled customers. I am a 70 year old retired woman who is out over $400 plus repairs for a product that should be junked. And I still cannot cut my lawn. Home Depot is still selling this junk and should also be ashamed. The repair shops must be delighted. There should be a class action lawsuit to get $$ back for all customers who have been duped. The summer of 2013 in the middle of the grass cutting season it would not start. I took it to the Toro dealer who said he had to clean the carburetor, put in a new plug and filter. It cost me 123.00 dollars. I said where is the warranty on the starting. He said it was not covered. The plug was like new and so was the filter. I feel like I got a raw deal and will never buy another Toro machine. I bought my daughter a new Craftsman last fall so treating customers bad is not good for business. I also bought her a new snow blower. Not Toro. This was my first Toro machine ever, and my last. My lawn is small and after about 15 hours of use it cost me again. Can't afford mowers like this.

I call Toro in March 2014 asking them if there were any problems with the decks on that model. They said I had to bring it to the Dealer to evaluate and leave it. Toro finally told me it wasn't covered under warranty. I got no satisfaction. I guess they could care less of the consumer. The mower was only 3 1/2 yrs old. Needless to say it's my last Toro. The second time, four weeks later, the axle bent again. The third time, the blades would stop when the grass was 1/2 to 1 inch higher than the setting. The fourth time the cable controls broke. Now as I write this, it is in the, guess where, hardware store being repaired. The owner of the store quoted, "Make lemonade out of lemons". This lemon cost me $1900.00. She had been paying someone to mow, but they were unreliable and she lives in a very rural area. I suggested and she agreed that she needed to purchase a mower. I have been using Toro mowers ever since I was a kid. I used to swear by them but not anymore. Anyway she wanted one with electric start and we went to Home Depot and purchased the Toro rear-self propelled walk behind mower with electric start. It of course has an optional cord pull start. Anyway I mowed. The first time, it worked great. She calls me up and says she ran out of gas and it will not start. Incredible, I told her to refill it (she is mechanically inclined to a reasonable extent). She had already did. The electric or pull start would not work. I feel terrible because I recommended this Toro mower. It is the 22-inch Recycler with electric start and rear wheel drive. I have been mowing for years, never heard of this. Bought new in April 2010. In Sept of that year I found I could not get it to keep running when I sat in the seat and moved the Operating Handles to the "run" position. Called dealer (Nord's Bloomington Power Equip. of Bloomington, IL), the tech gave me some tips to unlock the brakes. He said the linkage to the brakes was probably not moving all the way to release them - look under the unit for a pair of rods that go to the rear wheels and see if the servo that operates them is in fact turning completely - that is, NOT stuck before completing its cycle. IT wasn't. So I manually turned it with my hands. He suggested I bring it in for fixing a "binding" problem they acknowledged with the linkages. Well, then is when I learned that even to load it on my trailer, to transport to their shop, I had to remove the brakes in order to push it up onto the trailer manually - engine wouldn't start.

This was the beginning of 2+ years of nothing but the repeat of this same problem despite their replacing the module twice. For the past 3 months I have had the brakes removed & I have to disconnect the Positive Battery cable each time I finish with it as they told me the module keeps trying to reset itself when I shut the engine down, and that in turn runs the battery down as well as burns out the servo motor on the brake control module. I'm absolutely disgusted with the refusal of TORO to pay for the transport of my mower as part of the warranty - it's at least 12 miles each way, and only fortunate that I have access to a trailer that enables me to do it myself - not counting the laborious task AND the missed mowings where my grass grows unsightly.

I've continually consulted the internet for ANY info on a FIX by anyone to get this unpleasant game of "fix & re-fix" over. It's only by virtue of my own resourcefulness that I've been able to keep it running thus far this summer without another fix - replaced module by the dealer. However, I know it won't likely keep working because now each time I do get going it sooner or later starts shutting the engine down under load, and backfires, misses, etc. Finally by disengaging the clutch, I get it to stop trying to "kill" the engine. Is this the caliber of equipment & service we're to expect when buying a TORO product? SURELY NOT, I presume.

So ok, new carburetor it is, and a week later, the lawn mower was back in my hands. It starts nice and cuts grass, finally. But then the next time when I was going to cut the yard, it would not start. This time I know it’s not the gas. I got the non-ethanol gas - it’s all I used.

What really peeves me is what it says right on the top of the lawnmower: "Guaranteed to start on first or second pull." I can tell you from my experience that this claim is not true. My arm aches from all the pulls, 150 pulls today alone. I tried a new spark plug and nothing. I cleaned everything again and again and still won't start. Broken Deck under warranty, not covered - I purchased a Toro lawn mower a little less than 5 years ago for about $500. There is a 5-year warranty that covers everything and also guarantees the mower to start in two pulls for 5 years. I have always maintained the mower at the beginning and end of every season, I store the mower inside, and frequently clean the under side of the deck. I paid a lot of money for the mower and had intentions of it lasting many years. My yard is a very well-kept yard with large flower beds, a veggie garden, deck, patio, and large walk path. It is only 0.24 acres. It also has a house and garage, and garden shed on the property so as you can tell, the actual grass area is fairly small so there shouldn't be an issue of me mowing a large amount of grass.

The deck of the mower is falling apart. Chunks of the deck are actually falling off the mower into the yard. I took the mower to a Toro dealer and they contacted Toro. Toro claims that I must have hit something or dropped the mower and caused the damage myself! It is very obvious this didn't happen, as you can see pieces of the deck actually crumbling away. If there were a collision (there wasn't), you would see a large broken piece or something like that. I don't mow commercially, I have never taken the mower off my property to mow another property etc. I am the only one who has ever used the mower. I know what has happened to it and how it has been handled.

Toro is denying my claim. I cannot believe a company that is supposed to be one of the best, has equipment that falls apart with such little use! I also can't believe that they can legally not honor the warranty. Can I take them to small claims court or something similar? It is very easy to see pieces of the machine falling off, and I have collected a few samples. I grew up in Montana and running equipment on a farm, and I know that this is a failure and not a user-error. For the cost of this mower they should be bending over backwards to set this straight. Why do they warranty an item if it will never be honored?

We have a Toro Zero Turn Mower that we paid $3000 for five years ago. The back right wheel keeps breaking and falling off. We have had it repaired twice now and the wheel is off again. The wheel is lying on the ground, people! That is what is wrong.

The lady already told me how much the part is ($223), and so I asked her, "So I'm paying for someone to come get it, since it's in the back of my property, then paying for them to look at it (and tell us the axle is broke and the wheel fell off), pay for labor? That should run about all together, $400 roughly." She said that sounds about right. I've already put $300 in it this year alone and haven't used it yet. The wheel keeps falling off! You can't talk to the CEO of the company; he doesn't talk to people. His name is Micheal Hoffman, CEO of Toro. I bought a Toro Riding Mower in 2007. I Paid $300 for the 4-year extended warranty. After about a year, it started shredding the mower deck belt about 3x per year. I just replaced it myself each time. I finally figured out why. The pulley bracket was broken off the mowing deck, causing the belt to rub on the edge of the pulley. So, I called the warranty hotline and they had Altaquip come pick up the tractor. A few days later, a woman called from Altaquip and said that it just needed a belt and a tune up. I told her to look again because the deck is broken. She called back the next day and said it needed a new deck and that they would order the part.

10 days later, they called and left a message that the mower was ready. I called back and the woman at Altaquip said that there was a balance of $609 for the new deck. When I told her it was supposed to be under warranty, she said "You approved the estimate." I never approved any estimate and was not aware that the warranty claim was denied. I never would approve a bill of $609 for a tractor that costs $800.

I called Home Depot's Warranty Department and they had no record of the claim ever being submitted by Altaquip. Finally, Altaquip submitted the claim and that was after the work was done on the tractor. But it was denied.

It turns out that the extended warranty on this riding mower does not cover the mower deck. That is completely ridiculous as that is the only thing that makes this machine a lawn mower. Without the deck, it's just an engine with wheels.

I am livid that the extended warranty that I was told was comprehensive, does not cover a huge portion of the tractor. I never would have bought the extended warranty if I had known that. This exclusion on "decks" - not mowing decks, just says "decks" - is buried in the fine print of the contract along with nozzles, chains, trimmer heads, augers, and other parts that don't apply to riding mowers.

Also, I'm very upset with Altaquip for doing the work on my tractor without telling me it was not covered. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're mistaken in saying I approved the estimate. I know that there was never any mention of the claim being denied or a cost to me until after it was too late.

The manager of the Altaquip branch has since called me, and offered to "come to an agreement". He's supposed to get back to me with a proposed cost. We'll see. I really just want my tractor back with the broken deck so I can have someone else fix it. I'm sure it can be welded for $40 rather than replaced for $600.

I will not be making another large purchase from Home Depot and recommend that others stay away from the extended warranty. Don't believe what the store employee tells you. They probably only know what they've been told to say. Read every little bit of fine print before handing over any money. They have a hundred ways written into the contract for them to get out of paying for anything.

In the spring of 2000, I purchased a Toro lawn mower at Home Depot. The second time I mowed with it, the engine rpms went way high. It then quit running. After being told to take it back to Home Depot by several dealers, Ace Hardware agreed to work on it. They discovered that a screw had come out of the carburetor. It bent an exhaust valve. It took about a week to get it fixed, which I didn't mind because I had an older Toro mower to fall back on.

When I got it back, the 1st thing I noticed was it smoked a lot. This mower went back 3 more times because of the same problem. They did little things like put Toro oil in it, etc. The problem was still there. Every time I mowed, I had to add oil and on several occasions had to change spark plugs to get it to start (oil fouled). I repeatedly called Toro and they finally told me to take it to Valley Lawn & Sport in Burnsville, MN. I took it over there, and a week later they told me it was done. Although still in the warranty period, they charged me about $50. They said they took the cylinder head off and found nothing wrong with it.

I took it home and it still did all the same things. I called Toro repeatedly, and they told me point blank there was nothing they could do for me. They finally told me to call Wisconsin Magneto, the builder of Briggs & Stratton. They would not do anything either. I dejectedly put it in the storage shed, very unhappy. The next spring, I decided to take another approach before it was out of warranty. I called Ed Veits at Valley Lawn & Sport. I asked him if he would have a mechanic take it home and mow his yard to determine if it was leaking oil. He called back and said that indeed it did burn oil and would contact Wisconsin Magneto, and they approved putting in a new short block after coming out and looking at it (the engine minus the carburetor and heads).

After a couple of weeks, they called and said it was ready. I asked Ed, the owner, if I now would get back my $50. He replied “only if you have the original repair slip". I went out to my truck and got it. He grudgingly gave me back the money. On my way out he said “my mechanic said you ran the hell out of that mower". I replied, no Ed I put it in my storage shed and didn't use it the rest of the season. Ed replied, "That’s not what my mechanic said." I asked Ed if he was calling me a liar. He replied, "I guess so." I replied that I wasn't going to do business with Ed again. He said I'd appreciate that.

I took it home and used the mower that was just fixed. It quit running and I was relieved to see that the spark plug had just fallen out. I didn't have a lot of confidence in that mower anymore and continued to use my old Toro. It was used sparingly by my wife because the steel deck was lighter than the aluminum decked, older Toro. She doesn't mow the lawn much so it seen very little use and stayed in the storage shed most of the time. In the middle of the summer in 2008, my old Toro finally broke down. I didn't have the time to look at it, so I started using the newer, troublesome mower.

In the fall, it would not suck up yard leaves, like my older one. I was using it this summer, when the Personal Pace quit working. I took it apart and saw that the gear designed gearbox had stripped gears and very little grease in it. The gears were running dry. I took it apart and was told a new gear box would cost $115. In about 2 years of mowing, that part had also failed. I rebuilt the gearbox myself, but the time and money I had in it didn't really make it worth it. This has been a lousy mower. I want to buy a new mower but I am very wary of what brand to buy. I was told by a Toro dealer that the company could build a better mower, but that Toro wouldn't make any money.

In August 2007 I purchased a brand new mower model 20070 electric start with a Tsumech engine. I followed all the instructions on oil changes and care. This spring, it started up and ran well. However, after a few uses, it refused to start (so much for their guaranteed to start claim). The local sales office claimed that the cause was lack of engine oil, though the dipstick showed about three quarters full. I was told Toro would not honor the warranty because of their finding and also because I had purchased the mower from eBay. I am positive the engine was never low on oil. I found out afterwards that this engine was discontinued and replaced by a Briggs & Stratton engine. To me, something stinks in Denmark about this whole transaction.

I saw a Toro Push Lawn Mower on sale at the Home Depot in Broussard, LA. On the mower, there was a sticker that stated something like "Guaranteed to Start within 2 Cranks for 2 years". There were no markings on the sticker. I bought this mower on July 10, 2008 for about $280.00. I used the mower at least once a week, for about 9 weeks. Each time I used the mower, it was for about 40 minutes. I keep the mower stored in my shed.

About a week ago, the mower would not start at all. I checked the oil level, gas, and spark plug, and everything seemed normal. I brought the lawn mower to a certified TORO service dealer in Youngsville, LA. The repair shop fixed the lawn mower, but they told me it would cost about $40 to fix it. The problems was that the throttle cable needed to be oiled and a new air filter was needed. I questioned why this was not covered under warranty, especially when I only had the lawn mower for about 2 1/2 months. I was told that this was considered by the TORO Company as regular maintenance, and thus not covered by the company warranty.

I called the TORO company, and I was told by a customer service representative that the dealership's choice was final. I then sent several emails to TORO's customer service, and I got the same run around. My only complaint is that they should properly mark their "Guaranteed to Start" Product Sticker "under certain conditions". I have no complaint whatsoever against the TORO service dealer in Youngsville, LA because they were very courteous and fix my mower in less than a day. My only complaint is against the TORO Company. Rest assured that I will not ever buy one of their products again.

    1. Immediate problems with belt jumping off the blade drive.

    2. October/November 2006 Drive bolt sheered so mower no longer worked on the tractor. Take in for service. 2-3 hours of our time to take the tractor in for service, 1-week wait time.

    3. Continuous problems with drive belt coming off blade pulleys.

    4. May 2007 Left front wheel disconnects from steering column. Tractor cannot be steered. 2-3 hours to take the tractor into the service station. 2 1/2 weeks wait for repairs.

    5. July 11, 2007 Drive belt will not stay on and mower deck in inoperable. Taking into have service done after Toro refused to refund our money or replace the unit. We are told the next wait will be 1-2 weeks.

Total hours of operation according to their time meter is 11.2 hours. Lawn has been cut less than two dozen times since unit was purchased.

Toro will not even consider a refund. The area service manager John Retzer told me if I take any legal action they will not help with the problem at all. Retzer told me not to worry about the grass its been dry?.

Time off work for me and my wife every time we need to haul the tractor into the service center. prodcut not living up to the implied warranty. Can't get our money back. Toro is the worst compnay I have ever delt with, donlt trust the name!

I purshased this mower from home depot in 1125 3. I didn't set the mower up until 02 1 4 and used it twice to mow my lawns. Attempting to mow them again in 0420 4 the mower would not start. After much fiddling and changing the gas, plug etc it still would not start.

i called Toro who suggested I take it to a authorized dealer they recomended. I did so and was informed the gas had gone bad and I would have to pay to have the carburretor cleaned ($50.00) I wasn't very happy about this as the mower comes with a 2 year, full coverage warrenty and has, stamped clearly on its engine GTS Guaranteed to Start but Toro claimed it was my fault for leaving gas in the tank. The authorized dealer said I shouldn't leave the mower in the sun, which I didn't. Nevertheless I paid the $50.00 and then built a new shed so this delicate machine would have some place nice to stay.

I've used the machine once since then, its LA and the grass doesn't grow too fast, and now 0712 4 it will nto start again. Again i contacted Toro and again they have come up with the same excuse, bad gas. I've had gas mowers before and never had this problem but Toro insists the warrenty and the GTS statement to not apply. Am i the only one having a problem with this mower? It certainly wasn't cheap to buy. Am I justified in expecting Toro to honor their warrenty?
