I bought a Toro AWD push mower 2 years ago. Just after the warranty expired the rear axle cracked and had to be replaced. Cost of repairs: $100.00 for parts. $200 for labor. A NEW ONE COSTS $400.00! I thought I was buying top quality.

I bought on one these this year June 08, 2019 because I owned a Toro Snow blower for years that I was happy with, I was replacing a 6.75 HP yard works machine that served me excellent and basically rusted out after about 12 years of great use. From the get go I realized the Toro 5.5 hp....had far less power than my old machine. When trying to mulch, it basically stalls out when the other never did. I even compared it to my sisters old standard sears that was far more capable. A short time later I noticed one of the blue handle knobs was breaking. Lastly, readying to put it away for the fall, I turn the unit over and there is a large piece broken off the hard/brittle plastic shroud underneath. This is unacceptable for a machine i Paid $655 for.Stay away!!!!

Bought a three thousand dollar Toro 1028 ohxe snowblower. Went to change the oil and the oil drain tube was not fully drilled through, so no oil could come out once the drain plug was removed. I must say, “that’s some serious quality issues“. Called the help desk and found out I have to spend $100.00 for a dealer to pick up and deliver the snowblower just to replace a $20.00 part. I live in Canada, the snow capital of the world! Hence my title to this rant! “What a joke.”

Ordered expensive Toro snow blower online. Outside box seemed ok. Did not open immediately because it was a gift. Upon opening it was extremely damaged. It would not sit flush on the ground, cover was unattached on one side and motor was also pushed to one side. The whole unit was out of kilter. Because the box was opened after 48 hours from receipt, the company will not help. What kind of service is that? I spent $800 on a totally unusable unit.

Battery lasted 13 months - warranty on battery was 1 year. I maybe used unit 15-20 times on a very small back yard (3x20’). They referred me to 4 service centers which did not handle warranties for Toro. Finally sent me to Home Depot - who doesn’t- but charged $18 for an diagnostic. I was told by Toro they could not help me because if they helped me they would have to do it everyone. A replacement battery cost $89.99. I paid almost double that for the unit thinking I would have it for a long time. They lost my business forever.

Toro mower model 20332 is a piece of crap. I've bought Toro mowers in the past and was extremely satisfied with the product. This model with the Briggs and Stratton model 100000 is a dud. Crapola. Bought it two years ago and it died twice over that period of time. The engine blew this week. I guess in the birth-maturity-death cycle of all things, Brigs and Stratton finally hit the death part. Of the cycle. Goodbye Toro! Goodbye Brigs & Stratton! RIP. No photo description available.

I have a Toro Super Recycler lawnmower! The second year the paint started peeling off to the bare metal on the left side of the deck. I called the dealer where I bought the lawnmower. He said he would stop over and take a look. That was 18 months ago, so I e-mailed Toro, they said I had to go through the dealer. Sent him some pictures which he forwarded to Toro. He got a reply which he forwarded to me.

Here is his reply: "I have inspected your pictures of the deck paint coming off of the Super Recycler. This is not from paint adhesion issue but a wet grass issue. The grass sits on the paint and causes the paint to bubble up. I would be willing to cover a deck as a goodwill gesture but would like the customer to be informed of what caused the issue. Please let me know what you would like to do." Case # **.

Mower will not start if not used for 2 months. The mower must be repaired by someone familiar with lawn mower carburetors, who takes it apart and makes sure it is dirt free. Freshly pumped gas must be used, nothing older than 2 weeks and when storing, remove all fuel from tank.

I bought a Toro self propelled lawnmower and it is a total piece of junk! Mowed my lawn 4 times, it failed to start, finally started and literally blew fuel all over my face, clothes and lawn. Owned it 32 days, Home Depot wouldn’t take it back, 2 days past their return policy. Authorized repair center fixed the carburetor issue, cost me 50.00 because Kohler nor Toro nor Home Depot stand behind this horrible piece of junk. Now every time I mow I wonder if I will get blasted with fuel, or just not start. And to think I thought Toro was a reputable company!

These mowers have a latent defect in the self propel feature. Within a year of purchase, the self propel feature started to malfunction. When activated, it shuts down the mower. Now it is not working at all. I believe it is a defect because I have read complaints from others about this issue. The mower does start but it has become a push mower since the self propel feature is not working.

Bought a 149 cc self-propelled Lawn Mower a year ago and only used about 10 times. Drained the gas. But it does not start anymore when I want to use it this year. call Toro service and was told that this is not covered by their 2 year warranty. Very bad product and service!

Wheels fall off, twice in two years, belt slips off, twice in two years, now it cuts off after running for less than two minutes. I send mower to shop once a year for preventive maintenance. Will not spend any more money, will purchase new mower from a competitor and will tell my friends about my disappointment with Toro Mowers.

Bought this mower to replace an old Craftsman that I had for 12 years which kicked the bucket after hitting a brick. I have a large yard which is hilly and size wise would need a riding mower but because of the hills and retaining walls it's best to just push mow it. Because of the hills I liked the fact that this mower was AWD which should help if needed (my old mower was RWD and worked fine). The mower is mostly FWD and if you lift the front wheels not enough power goes to the rear wheels to do anything other than move on 100% flat ground. The rear wheel have just enough power to aid the primary driving front wheels.

THIS MOWER CANNOT HANDLE ANY SORT OF INCLINE WITHOUT SPUTTERING DUE TO FUEL NOT MAKING IT TO THE CARB. This happens even if the tank is 100% full! If you go forward and tilt the mower back will sputter at anything more than 25 degrees more than 5 seconds. If you lift the back and tilt it forward it runs just fine. If you tilt it left it will sputter at 25 degrees if not less (gas tank side). If you tilt it right (muffler side) it can maybe handle 35 degrees but will sputter after 5 seconds or less. Unless you have a flat yard with no hills or incline stay away from this mower, ignore that… just stay away from the mower because the personal pace is absolute trash.

Once the mower dies it will take you 5, 10, 15 pulls to get it running again. Personal pace feature is not a feature it is terrible. It uses a sprint and as you move forward it engages the drive and move with you. Sounds like a nice idea other than it is jumpy and you will find yourself using the blue grip handle to just go full throttle and walk behind it. It doesn’t work, you have to push on it which defeats the purpose of having a walk behind mower. If there is any sort of incline and the mover somehow doesn’t die the personal pace jumps because the spring contraption just doesn’t work like you would think.

Let’s talk about their customer service, an absolute joke and is a scam. If you have problems and call all they do is refer you to an affiliated shop. Since the shops are privately owned they do not cover any additional charges that the shop might charge. Customer service also implied I was wrong because she had the same mower and it worked fine, thanks Linda mine sucks. Understand when you buy this mower it is yours unless the store you bought it from is willing to take a return, TORO will provide no customer service, they answer the phone and pretty much tell you tough **. Look up TORO customer service. It is an absolute disgrace and I will never purchase any equipment from them. I plan on getting rid of this mower at a loss and getting a brand that stands behind their product. The gimmick 3 year warranty is a lie and again I will say is a lie. They will not help you.

14 months old, takes less than 10 minutes to cut my lawn. This season it's been a nightmare to start, but runs well with running. Was told today compression was half of what it's supposed to be. Probably totaled! And warranty might not cover!

I have this lawn mower one year. First year went to the shop for two weeks because a part was missing and the gas was running into the oil. Then the battery died for the electric start, was in the shop for a week. After using mower for one week after if was allegedly fixed, battery dies again. This is costing me quite a bit of money. I not only cut my grass but I cut my neighbor's grass for a little extra money and again, I have to pay someone to cut both lawns. I think Toro should make this right. I tried to get the company I bought the lawn mower from to send it back but they refused. Very disappointed.

I purchased a mower on June 12. I purchased a Toro model 752010 turn lawn mower for $4799. On the morning of June 13 at 9:30 AM I was advised my credit card was held by Chase, for security. Immediately contacted Chase and had my card activated again. I then contacted Toro to reinstate the order. Toro informed me the promotion was no longer in effect and I would now have to pay $5099 for the same mower. Their customer service was less than helpful and would continuously interrupt me as I attempted to explain what had happened.

This company has taken advantage of my credit card company security policy to sell their product to me at the higher price. My credit card company is an AARP partner Who was watching out for my account. Keep in mind this all happened within a half hour or so on June 13, 2019. Also within that same time period, the Toro dealer local contacted me via phone to inform me they received my order only to have it promptly cancelled. Order no. **. Toro’s explanation is that there had been a promotion on that mower and it simply ran out that day. However I was unaware of any promotion when I bought the mower and I can no longer view the original website for it has been edited. I feel like it was a bait and switch. They just tell me the fault lies with my credit card company. Either way, I do not believe it’s good business.

I purchased a Toro 22 in. Kohler High Wheel Variable Speed Gas Walk Behind Self Propelled Lawn Mower last June, 2018 and it is the worst purchase ever made. The bagging system is terrible, blows grass into the bag and back out into your face.. The mulching system is sub-par, always getting clogged and causing engine to stop. Today the self propelled cable snapped. You would think a lawn mower would last more than a year and Toro's customer service was less than helpful and it is still under warranty but can't get it repaired.

My Toro 22 inch Recycler was approaching 3 years old when the mower would not start, ONLY when the engine was warm. I took it to an authorized Toro service dealer expecting the repair to be covered under the guarantee. Nope. They said I used bad gasoline and would not cover the repair. I have five other power tools (2 stroke and 4 stroke) that use the same fuel and are all functioning fine. Shame on you Toro!

I bought a Toro Personal Pace mower from Home Depot. The transmission was plastic and wore out quickly. DON'T buy a mower from Home Depot or Lowe's. Toro and others sell their bottom models at these outlets. They are garbage. Buy the more expensive model from an authorized retailer.

We bought a brand new Toro lawn mower from Home Depot. We used it 3 times and the engine “blew”! The repair shop (Orange City Equipment) has had it for 2 1/2 weeks and we can’t even talk to anyone there to find out when it might be fixed. Meanwhile we have had to pay someone to cut our grass even though we have a brand new mower sitting in a repair shop..under warranty! I called Toro and all I got was excuses and the runaround! Stay away from this company! Bad customer service and bad repair service!

I need a Caster wheel from my TimeCutter 42. Contacted Toro talk to customer service person to verify I was getting right item. She assured me it was the right item. Instead of the Caster wheel assembly they sent me a back tire. When I returned it it's been well over a month and when I called about my refund she told me it could take another two months. What happened to Toro? How's it going broke?

What a piece of junk... $400.00+. Don't ever consider this mower, not even from a dealer, not a big box store. Absolutely ridiculous "customer(?) service(?). Not even used two summers in Erie, PA., very short summers, but beautiful, won't stay running over 30 minutes. Hauled it across town about 5 times to the dealer, replaced gas cap, "tuned" it up, and still won't stay running to complete mowing my 60 x 120 level, nice yard. Toro's advise: Remove gas cap and blow in the gas tank... What the??? So I do, and it will restart and run for a few more minutes. What the heck do my neighbors think of me "romancing" my mower. I'm still under my useless extended warranty and plan on pursuing with consumer protection and Attorney General's Office. Customer service must be rolling over with laughter after every consumer call. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY TORO PRODUCT. EXPECT NOTHING FROM THEM. BEWARE.

What a complete waste of money! We have used the fuel stabilizer, and/or ethanol free gas each and every time we filled the gas tank, also always check the oil and use proper oil. This lawnmower has locked up after the third use, after cool down could use again for maybe 10 minutes. Sixth time we’re trying to start it up, it’s totally locked. What a giant waste of money. Of course the retailer tells me the consumer must’ve done something wrong, and Toro isn’t open on the weekends. Please do not waste your money, and do not let them tell you that you ruined the engine using the wrong gas or no stabilizer. They are aware of this problem and you do nothing to help consumers, or change the product to meet consumer needs. I have been on the phone with retailer and Toro on three different occasions, to no avail.

Purchased new in 2007 and it still runs and cuts perfectly. My lawn is approximately 1/3 acre (flat) and my GPS tracker indicates it's just over a 4 1/4 mile walk when I'm finished. This model came with the B&S OHV with external oil filter and aluminum deck. These mowers require maintenance!!! At least twice a season I disassemble the rear (drive) hubs completely, clean and reassemble making sure the zerk fittings are clean and grease is properly distributed within the hub. This takes about 45 minutes total and is well worth the effort. Oil filter and fresh oil at least once a season, more often with increased use.

I also check the air filter prior to each use and touch up the blade every other mow. I have adjusted the tappets once in 12 years and just replaced the drive belt only because it got damaged from a piece of bark which wedged in the pulley. I keep all the cables and personal pace bar sliding areas lubricated with a bit of Marine CRC and have never once had a problem with the Personal Pace system. I also use a couple ounces of Sta-Bil in my 1 gal fuel can and, hot or cold the mower starts with 1 or 2 pulls every time! Hoping to get many more years from this mower!

Toro mowers are complete garbage. Bought mine in 2017. Used it exactly 5 times then would not start again. Apparently "normal" gas (is there such a thing?) if any and I mean a drop is still in the mower it will "shellac" the insides of the "pin valve" and render it unusable, this is not covered in the manual. I had my relatively new ($300.00) mower then fixed ($54.00) in 2018, it worked 3 times and then failed using TruFuel in it at about 38.00 a gallon. Save yourself money, time, aggravation, breath and effort, avoid Toro at all costs, Home Depot will be the next retailer I avoid since they sold me this piece of garbage that neither they or Toro will fix, honor, or refund!!!

I purchased a Toro 30" Time Saver Push Mower. In addition, I own two Toro riding mowers, a 52" Titan HD and a 50" TimeCutter. Have only had the 30" 3.5 years, and thus, 6 months out of warranty. Have had several problems with this mower already and now I'm told it's $300 to fix a worn out pulley that drives the blades. The nut and shaft are worn out from the vibration. My yard is completely flat and was professionally sodded. For a $1,000 mower, this should not be happening.

When the dealer contacted Toro warranty, some guy name "Justin" used google earth to look at my house and then proceeded to tell the dealer things in my yard I could have possibly hit. Really weird and impossible. The internet is FULL of video and complaints of the exact same problem. When I called customer service, I was told only the warranty dept can address this and must be done through the dealer. I cannot support Toro any longer.

I purchased a Toro model #5075 zero turn mower. My old mower broke down, so I ordered this mower for the quick delivery. The only thing that worked out was the quick delivery. The mower broke down several times during the first 5 hours of operation. I phoned customer service four separate times. They sure sound like they understand the problem and are willing to help. THEY DON'T, promises of sending replacement parts never materialised, along with their promises of returning my calls. The main problem is quality control in my opinion. The deck belt pulled apart, deck pulley fell off. In order to have this possibly repaired under warranty I had to take it to a shop about a half hour away. This pick up and delivery was $250.00. So I asked them to supply the parts and I would repair it. Still waiting 3 weeks later. They said that they are aware they have an internal issue, but don't take action to fix their internal problems. Nor my problems.

Updated on 05/17/2019: 1 week after I paid to get this piece of crap fixed the belt for the blades broke which let them spin freely and they hit together multiple times and destroyed each other as well as a pulley. Cost me another $179 and that was with the shop helping me out because of all the issues. What a stupid design. Both blades on one belt, if it breaks your blades are toast. $40 -$60 depending on where you go just for the blades. Will NEVER buy Toro again.

Original Review: I have had this mower for 4 years now and it died. I took it apart and could see two pulleys were bad so I replaced them as well as all the nuts bolts and other hardware that were extremely corroded. I spend just over $100 and it still didn’t work. I took it to a shop and they said a 3rd pulley inside was bad and a cable. This cost me $219. For a $1000 mower it should last longer than 4 years!!! Will never buy Toro crap again! I could have bought a fairly nice new mower for $320! I have babied this mower and serviced it properly, cleaning it regularly and always have sharp blades on it. This is unacceptable to cost over a 1/4th the price to fix it at 4 years.

Less than 4 months old and blew out FWD transmission. Called Toro and directed to "Auth Dealer". Dealer says 3 weeks before they can look at it - really. Who's gonna cut my now knee high grass. We are talking about a 4 month old (brand new) mower. Toro would not authorize return to Home Depot nor pay for rental nor send me the part so I can fix it. Most of this mower is plastic, and what is not, is made in China - Do NOT buy.

The Toro time cutter SS4225 Md#74721 mower works very well but it can be a fire hazard because the muffler is too close to the ground and it burn the grass if you stop for any reason. If you cutting during the fall with leaves on the ground be very careful and do not walk away from the mower while the muffler is hot because it will set the leaves and grass on fire.

I have owned the Toro TimeCutter for about 2 years when I hit a small hedge apple with it. The mower deck bent to the point where the spindle on the RHS was crooked and caused the blade to contact the side of the mowing deck. Now the mower is useless. Toro wants $600 for a replacement deck. When I contacted them, they said, "Well you hit something." Not sure if they only mow golf courses, but as a consumer, you are bound to hit things like small sticks/branches, apples, hedge apples, etc. These are naturally occurring items in yards that should not cause the entire deck of a $3000 mower to self destruct. Bought a Bad Boy to replace it and that deck is built like a tank... No stamped metal decks or Toro's anymore!

We bought a new 190cc Briggs & Stratton Engine # 13 0424 5619162 in 2014. It overheats and turns off every time we mow. My husband keeps the maintenance up on it. I told him today to get rid of it and buy a different brand. It is a bad lawn mower. My son has one and it does the same thing. It’s sad to be elderly and on a budget and now we have to buy another lawn mower. We don’t have a big yard. My husband is too old to spend this kind of time on a small yard just because the lawn mower overheats then you have to wait for the mower to cool down. We will never buy any of their products again.

I really liked my 0 turn, made cutting the grass a lot easier and faster. The model I had was a 4225. I think that the rear tires should have been wider so as sure as the weight of this mower out. After a few years on particular parts of my lawn you could see tire imprints. And before I'm criticized and people say well you shouldn't be driving over the exact same spot time in and time out. And in some areas it only makes sense to use the same path every time. When you're cutting next to a driveway or a flower bed you don't want to throw clippings on or in the flower bed or on the concrete so you basically go the same direction and path every time.

I purchased the 30" Toro Personal Pace mower on 4/17/15 and have had nothing but trouble with it. I like to push mow and thought a 30' mower would be great at the time. When this mower isn't broke down I really like it, but the problem is I can't keep it out of the shop. In the first 3 years it was taken into the shop 3 times to have the pulley that times the blades replaced. Each time the replacement pulleys were replaced the company sent the same cheaply made pulleys to replace them with. Each time the pulley breaks it bends the blades which have to be replaced also. The warranty did take care of this but I had to drive a 60 mile round trip to get it fixed and pay to have my yard mowed while in the shop.

Now a month after the warranty has ran out it's back in the shop for a blown head gasket and coil. I was told by the customer service person that they would take care of the parts that came to $183 but that has not happened. I was told that a supervisor would call me but again that didn't happen either. The customer service is as bad as the product that they sell. I personally would not recommend any Toro machine to anyone for the reasons mentioned.

It doesn't steer a straight line across from side to side, going up the hill is not a problem, driving down the hill, I normally have skid marks at the bottom; the hills are a challenge.

The word guaranteed to start is a joke. After 1 year, I was having carburetor problems. Then the gas tank ruptured. The fuel line always is getting clogged. That's just the first year. Home Depot then told me 6 weeks to repair and Toro never responded to my emails or calls. Maintain each year, I've had to repair each year. This is my 3rd or 4th year and it's not working again after having just repaired it a month ago. It just sputters and stalls. Adjusting the idle doesn't seem to matter. Toro lawn mowers suck. Also, I am not a big complainer. It takes a lot for me to do this. It's sold in Home Depot and is 6.75 h.p and 149cc. CHANGE THE WORDING GUARANTEED TO START. YOU DIDN'T EVEN RETURN MY CALLS.

I recently purchased a 48" Toro zero turn riding mower model #75211 with "My ride" feature. The my ride feature is a total waste of money. I traded in a 50" Toro for the my ride feature, it is a total waste of money. The ride is actually worst (harder) than my old mower and the optional mulch kit is another waste of money. It leaves clumps of grass, which my old mower did not do. Whatever they did do to this new model was waste of money and appears to be just a gimmick to bill the consumer out of additional money. Should of stayed with my old machine.

Model 20217 Recycler Toro Lawn Mower - Have had mower for 27 years, serviced every year, absolutely no problems ever. Started within 2-3 pulls first time. It died last week and is not worth fixing I am told. No problem. Reading your reviews on Toro mowers and most of them read BAD! Hard to believe based on my experience. Getting ready to buy new Toro and will let you know my review in a few weeks. I do know that what I have looked at so far is more plastic than metal. Do not like this.

Wish I had found this site before I purchased a new 50''cut Toro XP model mower. Right off the trailer thing wouldn't start {no manual choke hmm"}, when it did, I put it in gear and heard a loud knocking kind of scrapping sound, the deck rattled and squeaked once the blades were engaged. OK so it's not a Kubota or JD I thought. To the garage after one round of mowing, shut it off, tried to restart & the starter sounded as if it was dragging & grinding on the flywheel. Hmm, so I put it on the charger - if I have these same problems tomorrow this piece of junk is going back to Lowe's, this is the 2nd mower I bought in past 2 months with probs, 1st one was a Husqvarna, left streaks in the grass & the PTO sounded as if it was going explode any minute. Haha. Then the last day I mowed, it refused to start. I can't believe a mower with only 16 hrs on it would be falling apart, evidently these companies don't care to make total junk these days.

I needed a new self propelled mower. I remember growing up how well Toro mowers were made and how well they held up. Times have changed. I brought my BRAND NEW Toro mower home from my local home improvement store. I have a quarter of an acre yard to mow. Halfway through my initial mowing, the self propelled mechanism stopped working. I am not a lawn mower mechanic, nor should I have to become one on my FIRST use of a new mower. I took the mower back to my local store and was convinced to get another identical model and try it again. BIG MISTAKE.

On my second attempt, the mower cut off and wouldn't restart. Keep in mind my grass was no more than 2 inches high and the grass was dry. I wouldn't recommend another Toro product to my worst enemy, and I feel badly for the local home improvement store that bought a warehouse full of these mowers to sell. STAY AWAY FROM ANY MOWER WITH THE TORO NAME ON IT.

I purchased a new TORO 22 in Recycler Lawn Mower last May (less than a year ago). I used it less than 30 times before it was time to put it away for the winter. I followed every single step to empty and store it per the manual. I take great care of all my tools and equipment, after all a clean tool is a happy tool. I used the fuel it said to use and everything else it "recommends" you do for the longevity of the mower. Upon pulling it out of my garage a few weeks ago to start using it for the season it wouldn't start. It had a very loud backfire. I asked my neighbor who is a lifelong well rounded mechanic what the issue could be. He said it wasn't anything to do with fuel but the new "floating carburetor" system they are using these days to be "greener".

I contacted TORO as I am still under warranty. They sent me to an authorized dealer with my receipt for proof of warranty. When I dropped it off it was quickly looked at by the guy helping me. He said it was very clean and that fuel does not cause backfires in the engines. He then also sais that he needed to let us know that the ONLY thing not covered by the warranty was fuel related issues. I got a diagnostic call today and lo and behold. Guess what the issue is??? FUEL RELATED! Supposedly it blew my engine completely because of something to do with the fuel and it would need to be completely rebuilt. The cost to fix it was more than I paid for it brand new. Somehow I naively thought that they'd be honest and that TORO would honor their warranty and fix my less than 1 yr old mower.

Needless to say I said, "No thanks," and will be buying a HONDA mower from now on. I have been a TORO fan most of my life until now. I will never purchase their brand of anything again. I am extremely disappointed and disgusted in their machine and in their scam of a warranty. I can see by reading all of these reviews that I am not the only one with issues. HONDA here I come.

Purchased all wheel drive lawnmower and top of the line trimmer. Used no more than 10 times in less than a year. Trimmer will not start (only use MotoMix fuel) and lawnmower self propel doesn't work. Call customer service # get directed to service dealer that only works on Toro Lawn Mowers. Back to customer support for trimmer... After several minutes of trying to crack the code to speak with a rep I finally speak to a human to explain that their automated answer service leads me to incorrect service dealer. I get a response of contact Home Depot to get a refund. I ask for supervisor several more minutes. No supervisor available.

Granted my snow blower is about eighteen years old. I take good care of my equipment. My plastic gas tank cracked on its own due to variants of temperature while in storage. The tank was stored empty. I found out when I filled the tank with fresh fuel mixture. I have become frustrated by the lack of communication back from Toro's customer service. This is a fire hazard! As a veteran of the retail lawn and garden business. This is the worst company to deal with any concerns. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A FREE REPLACEMENT. My neighbor had the same problem with his unit two years prior.

Purchased a self-propelled Toro Lawnmower with Kohler engine from HomeDepot spring of 2017 used it 2x, it stopped working returned to HomeDepot. After jumping thru hoops they exchanged it for the same model, my mistake!!! The second mower worked 3x and stopped working, I hurt my back and couldn't move from Sept on, haven't contacted HomeDepot but expect nothing from them, seems that every review of this Toro results in the same outcome, a waste of 400 dollars. Wish me luck as I try to contact Toro.

I bought the Toro lawn mower paying a little more than normal because I believed Toro was a good brand (wrong). I bought it last year and used it twice - put it away for the winter and when I took it out for the first cut of the season it would not start even though I put fresh gas in it. It was going to cost more to have the repair shop fix it since it is only guaranteed for them to fix it for more money. I watched a video online and showed that the carburetor was probably bad. I bought a brand new one and had it replaced. The mower started on the second attempt. I put the mower away for a week and a half and when I took it back out it would not start again. I will NEVER buy a product made by TORO or Kohler.

Bought this Toro 22" Personal Pace lawnmower on August 9, 2017. Got home, took it out of the box, put it together. Read the manual with my 21 year old son, which instructed us to pour the entire contents of oil into oil reservoir. Add as needed. Well after each use, we washed the mower. Checked the fluids. And put the mower away in the garage. Fast forward six weeks and the engine died!!! We barely had to add gas, let alone oil!!! Yet after shipping it off to the repair center, they said it was our fault from not using oil! They said the oil levels were low!? I asked, “Well what happens to the oil when the mower shoots a rod?” The lady said, it drains out. But I'm not a technician, what do you want me to do. I said the mower is brand new! My grass barely covers half an acre!? This is crazy! I'll NEVER buy Toro again. I hope you read this before you make your decisions.

1-year mower would not start. Repair shop for $50 - started once, then same problem. Call to Toro and to local dealer. Problem they say is that my fuel is over 30 days old. Don't remember that advice before the purchase. So be prepared to waste a lot of fuel or keep the engine running until you run out of fuel.

I typically don't write bad reviews but this Company deserves it. Not only is the customer service a disappointment but the product is a bigger disappointment. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING A TORO LAWN MOWER. So many people have rated this product one star. Apparently the company doesn't care. All for the same reason. The product lasts about one season before there is a problem with the mower. It is called the "Timemaster". It should be called the "waste of Timemaster". I spend more time trying to get it started rather than cutting the grass. Buy another product. Customer service is terrible as well as the product itself. It cost me a $1,000.00 for this lawn mower. I wish I could write off the loss so I could recoup some of the money I spent on this terrible product. I will never buy another Toro product.

I purchased a Toro mower with a Kohler engine from Home Depot and have had nothing but headaches with this dud. My experience has been the same as many others have stated in their reviews. Simply stated, this "guaranteed to start" mower does not start! I can only imagine the laughter in the marketing dept of Toro as they came up with the "guaranteed to start" moniker. Neither Toro nor Kohler will stand behind this useless product. The mower is poorly designed and engineered. The only guarantee that I can make, which I will stand behind, is that I will never purchase another Toro or Kohler product!

Extremely disappointed in Toro these days. I bought a new 22" Toro 1 start in spring of 2016, used it maybe 3x, then had a severe medical issue so others mowed my lawn, then mowed 1 more time in late fall. Ran the gas out of the mower and stored in my shed. Spring 2016 - won't start after adding non-ethanol gas and Sta-Bil. Shop said I didn't run all of gas out of the mower! Bought another new Toro one start in June 2017, have used approximately 5x, and now it won't start! I have an older Toro - maybe 15 yrs old, and it runs like a charm but is not self-propelled. I think a class action lawsuit should be filed. Everyone is telling the same story here.

Purchased the mower (Toro 22" Push Mower) at Home Depot in Okeechobee, Florida. I've had this product for 5 months used it 5 times maybe 6 pulled it out of the garage and it wouldn't start in spite of the label on the front of the engine guaranteed to start! I have taken the carburetor apart and cleaned it, changed the spark plug, replaced the gas and it still doesn't work. Pull the cord it starts and then dies. I emailed Toro and got a reply back to "Take it to your local dealer to get it serviced." I paid roughly $300 for this product and now will likely have to shell out at least another $100 to have it serviced. I guess you get what you pay for!!

The reason for the review is simple - warn people about poor/bad items so they don't have the same BAD product experiences I've had. I purchased a Toro self propelled 22" Recycler from Home Depot, spring of 2015 for I believe $359. One would think spending almost $400 (after tax) you would have something nice that would last. The mower worked well till mid August (as my son was going to start school). The front drive self propel stopped. HD couldn't fix so they gave me a new mower. BTW this mower proudly states "guaranteed to start" right on the front. My last cut was mid-November (this is with the 2nd mower) and mid cut, I stopped to dump the grass catchings... and the mower would start... with half my lawn cut. Borrow a truck again back to HD... two weeks later early DEC. I get it back.

2016 was NOT better. Three repairs. Two of which were NOT covered. Early 2017 the mower is evidently out of Warranty... will not start, I take to an local mower shop that deals Toro. $120 later (again the "guaranteed to start" solenoid/ whatever) is NO good. Now 20 minutes ago, the compelling factor which motivated me to sit down and write this, Mid cut sputters, dies with half my lawn cut (maybe a quarter acre. Flat- this is my suburban home) Has good gas, cleaned the air filter. Will not start. I do not own a pickup, I have to borrow from in-laws. So this is a huge ** inconvenience. People STAY AWAY FROM TORO PRODUCTS!!

This mower was purchased in June 2012. It usually started on the second pull. Oil changed regularly; air filter changed annually; company/shop purchased from installed new plug. Had new blades installed and new plug on April 15 this year. Mower ran rough; if the engine was turned off would not restart for at least an hour. Soon it would stall when attempting to engage the blades. Mowing up a small incline the engine wanted to stall. Had to mow on the highest wheel setting as this "powerful" $1,000 lemon would choke otherwise.

Finally the mower failed to start (NOTE: went through 3 governor springs as well. A design flaw would not allow to mow slightly under a bush lest the exposed spring would break.) Brought the mower in for diagnosis and repair. Received a call from repair shop that I need a NEW ENGINE! COST IS $475 PLUS LABOR!! Had an intense conversation with the repair shop about the need for a new engine for a 5 year old mower that is meticulously cared for. Now the repair shop is a good solid shop that I believe is stuck between a rock and a deficient product. We worked out a workaround for the motor; however, the bottom line is this mower is a lemon, plain and simple. Toro... Never again!

Toro used to be a name associated with quality. When my Snapper died after 25 years, I decided to try a Toro. My mistake. It has been nothing but a pure disappointment. The front wheel drive slips on the grass and can barely move the unit, especially if there is even a slight incline. However, the biggest issue is the "Guaranteed to Start" sticker on the front. What a joke. If the mower remains dormant for more than a week, it will not start. I use high end gas, keep the mower clean and keep the mower indoors. If I skip a week mowing or at least starting it, the unit will not start. Today was the last straw. Got back from a nice 10 day vacation and the mower wont start. Instead of taking the time to clean the jets again, I am going to buy a new Snapper. You really do get what you pay for.

Only to hear that the lawn mower was bought two years ago and will not be covered. I told them that before they sent me to shop. I had shop verify lawn mower was brand new and verified bag is defective today and two years ago. Why tell someone to load and bring to your advised location to be denied, when the location you sent me to stated this is a toro defect. That order number is from local shop they advised to go to. We purchased a Toro MX 5050 on 7/24/16 from Home Depot. Our first two issues was with the "Smart choke" technology. Because of so much starting problems with the choke issue, now we have starter issues. It will not crank. This will be the third or fourth time this mower has been to a mechanic within 12 months of purchase. Also, one of the sealed bearings on the mower deck is bad. We do not recommend this brand of mowers.

Purchased the Toro 50" Zero-Turn Mower on July 27 2016, it ran fine in May of this year but in June would not start. Was told by authorized repair dealer that it needed a new carburetor, and Toro would not cover the repair cost. They are blaming the gas, I put fresh gas in it, and it's the same gas that my 18 year old mower is running on with no problem. I don't feel a carburetor should go bad in less than a year, and Toro should stand behind their product.

I purchased a 22 inch self propelled lawnmower in April of 2017. From the first day I got it I have had nothing but problems with it hesitating and quitting while cutting my grass. I have a small city lot and the grass does not get very long. It has been in the shop twice and both times I was assured it was repaired. Both times the same situation occurred. When I contacted Customer Service I was told to take it back for repair. I mentioned I wanted a different lawnmower and was advised Toro doesn't do that. After spending $400 on a piece of junk I would recommend NO ONE buy Toro as they don't stand behind what they sell. I was on the phone for at least a half hour with a manager who advised me they don't do any diagnosis over the phone. I was baffled by that comment and realized I was not going to get anywhere with them. Expensive lesson learned.

I purchased the above referenced lawn mower (Timecutter SS5000 Zero Turn) in May 2016 from Home Depot. Thought I was getting a good lawn mower, but it has turned out to be a nightmare 1 year later. Just recently I have been having problems with the mower deck falling off. It falls off when you cut high grass. I filed a complaint, of course Toro wants to claim that the deck could only fall if I hit something with it. This is just their way to get out of honoring the warranty. I have truly found out how they appreciate their customers. The design on the zero turn lawn mowers is awful. The mower deck is held up by two open ended hooks, very bad design. But of course Toro's way to take care of their customers is to put the blame on the customer.

Well I have not hit anything with this mower. I am more careful with this mower than I am with my car. Very disheartening to find that when there is a design flaw, that Toro wants to put all the blame on the customer. Really makes me question every wanting to buy another Toro product. Not a good way to do business and definitely not a way to earn consumer confidence.

If fact, it was still working great when I left Brandon, but I just decided to give it to my neighbor since she did not have one. Every year, at least once and sometimes twice, the drive belt falls off. Dealer fixed it the first time and put a claim into Toro. Great, but it tied up the machine for two weeks. So, I proceeded to re-install it myself. A pain, and because Toro paid the claim, it leads me to believe, this is an inherent problem. Fired it up this season and within 30 minutes, drive belt fell off again. Waiting to see what dealer says but if no related service bulletin and fix from Toro, they can keep their machine. Not the company and product quality they use to be.

I have a Toro Titan 5420 zero turn mower. This is the beginning of the fourth summer I've had it. During the previous three years it has been in the shop numerous times, not counting the times I repaired it myself, and none were covered by the warranty. The idler pulleys are plastic and are not very durable. The fuse block is exposed which allows trash to collect in it which will short out your entire wiring harness. It is now in the repair shop again. When it works it does a good job cutting the grass but it is not dependable. For almost $6000.00 I expected far more quality than I received. TORO - another four letter word for junk.

I bought a Toro 50" cut riding lawn mower in November 2016, it is now April 2017. This is absolutely the worst lawn mower I have ever owned. EVERY time I cut grass something has to be fixed. Last month the bearing in the steering column had to be fixed, it cost me $100.00 and took almost 3 weeks to get it back. It is still a major effort to steer. Now the blade won't stay engaged and the backup and cut option won't operate at all. I paid $3000.00 for a real piece of garbage.

Like my wife said, "It say's guaranteed to start, it doesn't say guaranteed to run!" No matter how clean or new the spark plug, it takes 10-15 pulls to start. This last time it just quit after starting up. Proper fuel, regular oil check and change, clean filters, fuel lines OK, etc., none of it matters. I do not recommend this Toro model.

In October 2016 I was mowing when the mower engine exploded. It flew shrapnel in several directions and spewed oil all over. I called Toro and was told to bring it to a dealer who would dismantle it and send in pictures on a warranty claim. It was purchased October of 2015 so I figured it would be covered. I was then told that Briggs & Stratton had denied the claim and said it was my fault due to lack of oil. I always had checked the oil every time I mowed because I knew this mower burned oil unlike the last Toro I had purchased in 2008 which still runs. It's disgraceful to deny claims like these and claim user error. I understand this engine has now been discontinued due to emissions. It's no wonder it has emissions problems as I know it burns oil excessively. Don't buy Toro products. Their warranties are worthless and they won't back their products.

Like most other users here, we had 2 Toro mowers over the years that were extremely dependable. We bought this 2 years ago to cut a half acre. It worked good the first few times last year, then broke down, so into the shop it went. This year it worked a few times and it froze. Back to the shop. The place that sold it, a small shop that works on and sells power equipment, had to order the part which took weeks for it to come in. End of summer, only a few more cuts and the cable broke today. We're ready to trash it due to extreme frustration. Don't buy this machine. It is under-engineered and a waste of good money.

I had my Toro SW5000 for only one season when one drive-transmission went out. It was fixed under warranty with no problem, however my main complaint is the steering wheel gearing is not adequately protected from the elements, clogging the gears with grass, and making it very difficult to turn. You can clean it after use but it clogs again in no time upon using it next. It needs a "fix." Otherwise, quite happy with the mower. It takes some of my steep hills easily.

First, I must say as a previous Toro walk behind mower owner, I'd always favored their product over all others. A recent 8 year old mower quit because it just got old. OK, so I bought the Toro Smartstow via ShopToro in Minneapolis, MN. It ended up being shipped from Dallas, TX. Immediately, I had problems. The right side lever for adjusting wheel height wouldn't budge. Also it wouldn't start despite my gassing it and putting in the recommended and include fuel additive. Took it to Johnson's Small Engine repair in Harrodsburg, KY which is the recommended local shop. Cost 35.00 despite being under warranty. They said they had to flush the fuel system. Thereafter, I used it happily five times. On the 6th use, it was blowing out oil, labored, then quit. I also noticed the engine bolts to the deck on the mower were loose.

Long story shorter, ShopToro reminded me to go to the local dealer for repair. Local dealer wouldn't repair. I advised ShopToro, they said dealers are independent franchises and decide for themselves if they will honor a warranty. Contacted BBB in Minnesota, ShopToro advised that Johnson's Small Engine repair in Harrodsburg, KY would be happy to service me. As before, this dealer refused to service me. You can be certain I will never again nor recommend, and surely advise others to not purchase a Toro mower. They used to sell quality products and provide quality service. These days you might as well buy from one of those cheapo Chinese companies that Toro seems to be imitating now. Minnesota BBB advised me to seek the KY BBB for help. Toro says no refund or replacement mower.

On Aug 19 2016 we bought a Lawn-Boy self propelled mower. After starting, stopped it adjust the height of mower. Never could get it started again. Took it back to Home Depot on Aug 20 2016. Bought a Toro electric start mower. Got home to put it together to find a blue plastic push button to start. It was missing. Called store. Told to come in next day. They would give the part from one on the floor. So on Aug 21 back to store which a 30 min across town from where we live. Worked great, stared wonderful so mower yard. Then on Sept 1 2016 tried to beat the rain so started to mow. Got backyard mowed moved to front. That was when the back left wheel fell off. Husband put it on I finished. But since the wheel was loose it has ruined the gear. Will take mower back & ask of refund. Not sure what to buy now.

My Toro self propelled mower is less than two years old and the other day it literally blew up. They say I let the oil run too low. I have a similar one that's 8 years old I use at my father in law's place and never have a problem with it. I will never buy a Toro product again.

We bought 2 Toro Zero Turn lawn mowers a year ago and they have been in the dealers shop about as much as we've actually been able to use them. Both are very hard to turn, and the starter went out. Took it to dealer. Then mower wouldn't engage and parking brake wouldn't either. It'll work for a little while then next time, it won't start. Can't steer it. Took it back to local dealer, pushed it off in his parking lot and told him "we don't want it back in our yard!" It's like a card game. $10,000 and we lose! If anyone knows about a lawsuit please post to let us know. We'll never recommend a Toro Aka, "piece of crap" to anyone!

On 5-11-15 I purchased the Toro 22-inch from home depot had it for a year and two months kept up all the maintenance. Finally it start smoking and blowing oil out of the air filter compartment. I called Toro and they gave me dealers to use and I did after they checked it. They said, “You have a bent crankshaft and to fix it was $359.89.” Because it was not covered under warranty. The dealer said, “You may have hit something which was not true. Not only did I have a two year warranty I bought the extended warranty. So I called Toro back and they said they have to go with whatever the dealer say. Never again will I ever buy a Toro.

Bought a Toro 42 in ZTR mower from Home Depot. Mowed my backyard and thought it was the best thing ever. I backed the mower into the garage and simply shut it off. That night I heard a clicking noise that wouldn't stop so I disconnected the battery. The following day I put the battery cables back on and was planning to mow my front yard. The mower wouldn't move forward or backwards, wasn't able to push it. I read the manual and made sure I was doing everything right. Turns out it was the electronic brake. Had to use a come along to drag it onto my trailer. I returned it and got my money back. What a nightmare. I researched and found it was the better ZTR. Not sure what to buy now.

Purchased in August 2012 from Home Depot. When I first got it, it ran and cut beautifully. Probably got 4-5 mows of a 1/3rd acre lot. Then, early in the next season, it began running erratically. Thought maybe it was "bad gas" so I drained the tank and re-fueled. Still ran very rough. Oil and air filter changes, no good. Never ran right for next 3 seasons. Then one fateful day in July of 2016, came out to find engine seized. The lawn mower repair shop found that gas had been leaking into the crankcase, contaminating the oil. The oil was essentially not viscous enough to protect the engine and therefore destroyed it. From what I've read, these 2012 models were shipped with debris in the gas tank, for which there was a technical service bulletin. Since I missed out on that, I'm now left with a $1,049 pile of metal and sadness. I'd never buy Toro again, and I urge you to do the same!

I would like to report that Toro lawn mowers are nothing of the quality of the previously built older well made Lawnboy mowers. Toro buys Lawnboy, puts out a cheaper version of the Lawnboy, only to funnel future buyers to Toro's product line. I have never had such a terrible cut than the Toro gives. At every corner, when cutting my lawn, Toro drops a pile of grass. This leaves a very unattractive lawn, with clumps of grass all over the lawn. I have talked to other people who own Toro and they report the same problem. I do not know how to get a hold of Toro to give them input. I have an older Toro, maybe about ten years old. On the positive side, it is self propelled and starts with one easy pull. The quality of cut is quite prohibited though. I would sell this mower in a heartbeat if I could find a mower which cuts like the old Lawnboy of years gone by.

I purchased a Toro TimeMaster 30 inch mower in 2012. I understand it is now out of warranty. However, even beginning in the first mowing season this mower has been plagued with mechanical breakdowns from broken belts, cables, carburetor, and now the head gasket has been blown. Since I paid >$1,000 for it, I have been religious about maintenance and service. Toro says they won't do anything to help, even though they said it sounds like the mower has had an excessive amount of repair needs. Just the kind of company I want to do business with. NOT! Last Toro product I purchase and cannot recommend them to anyone.

I've had nothing but problems with the belt pulleys. They keep ringing the center of the pulleys out thus ripping the belt to shreds. Belt and pulleys are about $36.00 each. It's happened once a year so far. That gets expensive plus nothing but problems with the electronic brake. New switch for it was $100.00. It's the worst mower I've ever had and won't ever buy another one.

Apparently, Toro really does mean "bull"! I purchased a Toro self propelled Guaranteed To Start mower from The Home Depot in August 2014. I kept it in a shed and used it about every three weeks, until February 2016, when it wouldn't start. I changed the air filter, and the cover clips abruptly broke off. I changed the fuel, and noticed that the fuel cap was cracked. It still would not start, so I took it to an authorized Toro repair shop. They told me that the carburetor was completely corroded! The so-called 2 Year Warranty did not cover what they called "neglect"! They wanted $175.00 to repair it! (I paid $299.00 plus tax for the mower.)

I told them that I did not want the repair, and they said there was a $30.00 inspection fee! I told them in no uncertain terms to keep the piece of ** and I will never buy a Toro product ever again! This includes the equal piece of ** Lawn Boy! I owned a Craftsman mower for 15 years and would still have it today if it weren't for a small stump hiding in my grass! I'm writing this review now because I need to shop for a new mower, and I was tempted to use my Home Depot card and saw that they sell primarily Toro, and Lawn Boy mowers, which are the same company! I will not give them my money again!

Purchased the above mower 5/31/16 and accepted delivery 6/6/16. On 6/6 the mower was used for less than an hour when the electric brakes failed, resulting in the mower shutting down. Transported the mower to an authorized Toro repair center for analysis. The repair mechanic stated "the electric brake issue has and will continue to be an issue, Toro needs to redesign it". After the analysis: I searched online forums and reviews and found that my experience is synonymous.

Personal Pace Lawn Mower manufactured in April 2010 - My Toro today started up and then shut down after a few seconds. I tried to add fresh fuel with Stabil & same result. I viewed two YouTube videos that showed how to clean the jets, but it was for an earlier model. I don't know where the jets are on my mower. I'd replace the carb, but don't know which one to get. I purchased it new in 2010.

Within 2-3 years the engine ran rough and stalled. I took it to the dealer & who cleaned the carburetor, he said that it was likely bad gas. I started using regular gas (not unleaded) and added some Stabil. I've have no problems since until today when the start-up and shutdown started. BTW - the dealer told me that at the time Toro was providing some help with the carburetors for this model.

One thing that I've done to get it to start easily, is to pull the cord slowly one time with the spark plug disconnected. Then I connect the spark plug, give it a good pull, and it usually starts. I hope that this helps someone. I'm either going to buy a carburetor or a new mower. This is the 7th year for this one. I've had good success with Toros in the past, except that the decks of the two recent models are not that good, and tend to rust. I will probably buy another Toro or a Honda.

We bought our Toro Recycler lawnmower in the summer of 2013 from Home Depot. The advertisement it was "guaranteed to start" was appealing to my wife and I and was one of the reasons we bought it as our first lawnmower. Our lawn was small, and only took about eight to ten minutes to mow completely. Worked great that first season, although I only used it for half a year. I ran the gas down to almost nothing to minimize the gas that was left in the tank when I stored it in our shed for the winter. Next season I put new gas and let the mower run for a few minutes before using it when I first started it for the season. By the end of that summer the mower was running a bit rough but I didn't think much of it. We stored the mower again in our shed with the gas run down to where I couldn't even see any in the tank.

In spring of 2015 we went to use the mower and it would not start at all. Tried new gas, mechanic in a bottle, checked oil and used carb and choke and even that only got a faint sputter. We were preparing to move so I didn't have any time to get it repaired so we just stored it away and it never worked since. From the amount of warranty complaints it is doubtful we'd have received any help anyway. The "guaranteed to start" thing is a sham as even if you take pretty good care of the mower and use it only for a small yard it still dies after 2 years. Extremely disappointed.

I had a Toro self propelled walk behind for over 20 years and never had a problem with it. The only reason I got a new one is because I couldn't get parts for it anymore. In 2011 I got the Super Recycler 20384 from the same dealer I got my old Toro from. It worked great for the first year, but the next year it would start then quit after about 10 minutes. I took it to the dealer and he said it was bad gas. He drained the carb and gas tank, charged me $60 and sent me on my way. It ran fine for about a month and the same thing happened.

The gas I used was only a month old, but the dealer said try 89 octane from a different gas station (after paying him another $60 for the same fix as last time). Did what he said, mower worked for about a month and started crapping out again. I finally just started draining the tank myself about every 3rd use and put new gas in it every time. I still have to bounce the thing up and down to get it to run, and even then it still runs rough. I decided to take a 10 lb sledgehammer to it this weekend and buy a Honda. I'm so done with that piece ** Toro! I'm definitely no longer a Toro customer!

Bought this mower from Home Depot early 2012 when moved to Florida. What a piece of crap, worked ok for first year or so. Then did not want to start. I found that if you bounce it up and down on driveway several times it would then start. Now it runs half decent for few minutes then starts sputtering. Have been changing oil, air filter, new blade, good gas. This one has a Kohler engine which I thought was better than Briggs. I think I read somewhere that this engine now made in China. And I see that many people are having same problem. Class action lawsuit seems appropriate. Rather than having this lemon worked on I am going to buy another mower and it won't be a Toro or from Home Depot.

Purchased mower at Home Depot. Constant problem - won't start. Toro service center will not honor warranty. Clean carburetor before taking in for service. Filled with ethanol free fresh gas. Had same problem 4 times in a row. Did same service before taking in. They always found water and debris in the engine and carburetor, which of course is not warranty.

Talked to corporate and they refused to honor the warranty. I will never buy another Toro product and tell all your friends the terrible experience. Toro at one time was good but it is compromising its quality and service for corporate profits.

I have a 5 year old Toro. It's a gem. Never fails. My next door neighbor and two other neighbors all have new (1 to 2 year old) Toros. None will start after being stored for the winter. All began the season with new gas. Searched the manual for changing the spark plug information. Not even mentioned. Even the Toro website does not give specific information as to what is required to change the spark plug. (A 13/16 spark plug wrench). The Toro Website continually advises owners to bring their mowers to an authorized dealer. Authorized dealers are expensive and after talking with two of them, it is certain that the customer is going to pay regardless of the warranty. The new "Guaranteed to Start" Toros don't really start unless one brings it to a dealer. Save some money and distress. Get an old used Toro and take care of it. They're easy to take care of.

Recycler 20371 is junk. Purchased from Home Depot May of 2014. Ran well the first 3 times I used it in 2014 then wouldn't start. Brought to local Toro dealer, said it was bad gas. No, the gas was new, use ethanol treatment. Ran for a week, then died again. It has become a ritual that every few weeks I take the carb off and let it soak overnight in B-12 Chemtrol cleaner. After another year of that crap I bought a reel mower this year. With the thousands of bad reviews and complaints on this engine with no response from Kohler, I will never buy anything with the name Kohler on it. In fact I was so annoyed I took out our Kohler kitchen and bathroom faucets and replaced them with another brand. I bad mouth Kohler to anyone who will listen, I post bad reviews on every store site that sells them. They are just junk.

I have a Toro trimmer that has a gas tank that leaks gas where the two pieces of plastic were welded together. Not a lot but it leaks. Called Toro in October 2015, they say they cannot send me a new tank because it is a liability. I asked why and they said they just cannot, like they are going to send it to me full of gas or something. They told me I had to go through a certified dealer/distributor/repair place and give me a number to Bob's repair shop. Try to get a hold of Bob 6 times, leaving messages every time. No one ever answered or called back. Call them back in November 2015 and tell them and they tell me to go to Grassland in Latham. Toro says they will fix it and we will pay for it if it is covered.

Horrible service there too. Walk in and the guys act like they want nothing to do with you. Introduce yourself and put your hand out and they may shake your hand, but you will have to ask for their name. "Hippie" as he called himself tried telling me he probably can not get parts for my trimmer to which I replied "I can get parts and you guys are a full line Toro distributor". Then he says "well even if we could get parts we are four weeks out for service". You have to be kidding me. The gas tank is held on with two bolts. Real simple to fix this. Order the new gas tank, remove two bolts holding gas tank onto the machine, install new gas tank. It would take you more time to find the right sized hex head wrench than to actually install the new tank.

Now they are telling me to take it to another place. This time in Albany. I cannot believe someone could spend two hundred dollars on a piece of equipment and the company treat them like this. I will never buy another Toro product and I will never go back to Grassland for anything. Ever. What a complete waste of time and money.

Now I have sixty hours on the new one and it will not run over ten min without spitting and sputtering. I have lost over forty yards due to the junk I bought. If there is a lawsuit to sue the company to get a refund on the Toro please email me. I am 100% in on it because the lemon law is needed for the junk they're selling.

Having purchased this mower last year I have had to return it too many times. I is supposed to mulch grass but clogs and has to be cleaned often when using, it is under powered and the deck isn't designed properly. The gas cap was leaking and was replaced, then it leaked again so they replaced the gas tank and cap. It is hard to handle and misses grass so you have to go over the same pass and re-cut the grass. Very disappointed, tried to return it but they have a 30-day return policy. I will continue to use my old 22 in. Toro when this gas gobbler needs another service!

Bought Toro recycler Lawn mower from Home Depot May 2013. Nothing but problems since day one. Mower would run then die in the middle of my mowing job. This has happened too many times to even remember. Took it back several times to Authorized Service Dealer. They would say it's fixed and blamed it on the gas. I use fresh gas with a stabilizer. Toro customer service just awful to deal with. They won't take my lemon back. Lawn mower is back one more time so that their factory service people can talk to my service dealer. My guess is that they will again blame it on the gas. So you will see a pretty new looking lawn mower on my tree lawn during trash day soon. Worst $340 I ever spent. Never will I ever buy a Toro product.

The frustration of breakdowns. The frustration of a lack of customer service, or parts. Hint: sell something that breaks, then sell the parts that break. Sell common parts, even if you engineered it poorly. I had a dealer tell me that it was too new at one point to get parts, then a couple years later say it was obsolete and they no longer stock parts. This is my last Toro product. The rear drive axles break easily and are the size of heavy wire. It is also noted in other blogs that these models have inferior axles. Breakage is common.

Heard from Toro. Electric start problem was solved as wires to the battery were loose. Taped them on that should solve that problem. Still have a problem with clumps of grass coming out the front of the mower.

Original review: April 15, 2016

Purchased in June 2016. Replaced electric start twice since then. Picked up last month and used 2nd time this year and electric doesn't work again. On top of that I have complained where I purchased that this mower throws clumps of grass out front of mower when I get to a wall of end of my property and make turns. This is unacceptable as I need to get a rake to rake up the clumps of grass. I had a toro for twenty years and never ran into this problem. I have tried to change cutting lawn at different settings and lowering front wheels lower than back but still getting clumps of grass out from of mower. Cut lawn today and cut about 1/2' mulching and problem still exists. I sent email to toro customer service demanding a full refund or replacement as this lawn mower is unacceptable. Waiting for their response. Don't expect they will do anything.

I purchased a Toro Recycler less than a year ago from Home Depot which came with a 3 year guarantee and advertised a one-pull start. It did not start in the spring. The spark plug and filter were new, gas was new, oil was good. I took it to the area warranty service was informed it would be 4-6 weeks before they could look at it, and it only covered $140 service. I was required to put $40 down. The man ahead of me was purchasing a new carburetor for the same model. As I left, I walked by the mowers in queue and there many others just like mine. I am now deciding whether to cancel the repair and purchase another make from a different store vs. paying a mowing service during the rainy season.

It's not starting today and I've barely used it as my lawn isn't that big and takes a while to grow anything worth mowing. This is misleading and ridiculous. I don't have bad gas in it and I shouldn't have to replace anything yet. Filter is good and oil is full. Now I have to waste money to get it fixed!!

I purchased new, Toro Guaranteed Start lawn mower from Home Depot. Guaranteed Start feature is anything but a guarantee. Mower is not a guaranteed start whatsoever. The consumer is misled and left out in the cold if the mower will not start as guaranteed! This particular mower has been in the shop 2 times for a total of $100.00 in repairs while still under "factory warranty". The owners manual is followed as directed. However, the repairs are not covered, how??? Begging Toro to take mower back for refund or exchange and they will not. Stuck with a faulty Toro machine, out $350.00, no support from customer service, poor communication from authorized Toro dealer, mislead advertisement of Guarantee Start and an overall horrible Toro experience.

Seeking class action attorney, please contact me directly.

We have been dedicated Toro owners for many, many years. We have had snow blowers that have lasted 30+ years & lawn mowers that have held up for up to 15+ years and have always been pleased with our Toro products up to now. We feel that we have a lemon. We are debating, if we have to replace this lawn mower, as to whether we want to take a chance & purchase another Toro or another brand. We take great care of our Toro equipment, cleaning the lawn mower after each use.

We purchased our current Toro 22 inch Recycler Lawn Mower from the Home Depot on Alexis Road in Toledo, OH on 5/26/11. Since then, we have had to have the self propelled drive system replaced twice & now it sounds like the unit is going bad once again. The last time this was replaced was on 5/18/15. It was no longer under warranty but the Toro repair shop called you & approval was given to replace the equipment at no charge. The first time this drive was replaced was July 31, 2013 while still under warranty.

We feel that Toro should take back this lawn mower & replace it at no charge to us. Someone told us the reason that you are having problems with the self propelled drive is because you are now using plastic parts along with metal parts and they are not compatible. We would greatly appreciate someone contacting us by phone to discuss this problem if you want to keep a loyal Toro customer. We even purchased a Toro Self propelled/at your own pace lawn mower for our sister last year when her Yardman went out. We have purchased 2 Toro snow blowers in the last few years also. We have sent this info to Toro & have received no response.

I purchased a Toro walk behind mower within the last six months. I had been told of how good the company and products supposedly are, but I recently had the belt come loose for the self-propelling function. I took it to the authorized Toro dealer where I purchased it. They were able to repair without a belt replacement. I was charged for the repair since the supposed 2 year warranty didn't cover such repairs, even though the warranty states it covers the cost of parts and labor for 2 years. I also contacted Toro's customer support, and my complaint fell on deaf ears. With such a wonderful first customer experience with Toro, it will be the last Toro product I will ever purchase.

I bought a Toro String Trimmer in April 2013 with a three year warranty. The warranty says they will "repair or replace" it if it breaks down within the warranty period. I took it to an authorized repair shop and after a week was told that the problem was not covered by warranty. He said he wasn't sure what was wrong with it, but he thought it was a bad carburetor that needed replacement. He didn't take the carburetor off because he knew Toro would not pay him for his time. He also said that if he says it is a defective part he has to prove it to Toro, and they could dispute his opinion and not reimburse him for his time and labor. They (Toro Customer Service) say he has "full authority" to determine if it's covered under warranty, he says the people he calls in technical service make the determination.

He did not say this exactly, but my interpretation of our conversation as a whole says that if the product is over 6 months old, they will find some reason to refuse to honor the warranty. I will not buy another product made by Toro or Techtronic, and I'll be sure my friends and family are aware of my complaint. I will recommend the repair shop, but not Toro.

Purchased a Toro Time cutter SS4225, Sku#0000-947-622 mower on May 1, 2015, from Home Depot in Covington, TN. Was delivered May 4, 2015. On July 22, a front tire was flat. I inflated to proper PSI. Then on Aug. 5th, the tire was flat again. So, I put soapy water on it and discovered a slow leak in middle of tire from a small pinhole. I called Toro customer care on Aug. 6th explaining the problem and was told I would have to go to a service center. On Aug. 7th, I carried the wheel to a service center and was told they usually patched the tire. I insisted on a new tire because I felt like the tire was defective. They called Toro and I was told they would send a new tire, but I would have to pay freight and mounting charges, which I declined because I felt I should not have to pay anything. I then called Toro customer care again explaining the problem and was told they would not do anything because of a 90-day warranty.

I requested a supervisor. A Liz answered and I explained the problem again and was told the 90-day warranty did not cover it. After a heated discussion, I was put on hold for a long wait. Liz said for goodwill she would send a tire to service center and I would have to pay freight and mounting and that she would help on freight if I sent her a receipt (lots of luck). I told her to send the tire to me and I would mount the tire. She said no. I then requested a supervisor and she said she did not have one. "She must be the CEO." I told her I would not buy another Toro product and I would tell everybody about their warranty.

If you have such a small problem, what would happen with a large problem? Once you buy, lots of luck. Toro should have more courteous people at their call center. My feelings on a 90-day warranty on tires and belts on a mower that is used about 10 times before warranty expires must mean they are not up to standards on their tires and belts, hoping they will last longer than 90 days. I submitted this to Home Depot to be posted on their comments about Toro Mowers, but they rejected my review.

I contacted management in Covington, Tennessee about this review being rejected and was told someone would contact me. I also called the Atlanta main office. I have not received any communication from them. I thought Home Depot, being a large seller of Toro, would call them to correct this problem about a $25.00 tire, but I was wrong. I am telling Home Depot I will not buy anything else and I am cutting up my card. It is hard for an individual to get something resolved, but as a large group we would get their attention. So call, e-mail Toro and Home Depot. Thank you for your support.

I purchased in July 2015 a new push Toro lawn mower from Home Depot. Dropped over $400.00 for the mower. First two times I mowed the lawn, it started on about the 4th pull. The 3rd time I went to mow, it would not start. Went online to see what the possible problem may be. They indicated that a bolt that holds the bowl to the carburetor sometimes can clog. So, I removed the bolt and cleaned the valve holes with a piece of wire. Put bolt back in and it started right away. Two weeks later, I was going to mow the yard again. Would not start!! I pulled until my arm nearly fell off. I took it back to Home Depot for a refund. This new READY START engine is not worth buying. I have always been a B&S fan, but no more. I do not want to have to work on my mower every time, before I can mow my yard..

I bought new self propelled "personal pace" electric start mower late may 2015 at Home Depot Westerly R.I. for use at a house I am moving to in Sept. During forth use in mid July it stalled several times.and emitted smoke. I checked the oil, which was full but dark. I intended to change the oil when the mower had run for 5 hours as instructed in the manual. That would have been about an hour more.

The mower did not last an hour. The engine blew shards of metal and oil across the lawn.
At that point I made a major mistake. I read the owner manual and followed the instructions.
I located a Toro repair agent (who wanted $50 to pick up the mower). I loaded it into my car and delivered it to the repair shop, and prepared to pay for lawn mowing for the remainder of the summer. The repair facility is blameless. They applied for authorization to repair and were referred to Briggs and Stratton, who require photos of a disassembled engine.
Calls to Toro result in lengthy explanations of "process".
The third agent I spoke with told me I should have taken the mower back to Home Depot for replacement during the first month. I told her that I followed the Toro manual instructions that make no reference to returns. She added that the manual clearly states that Toro is not responsible for the engine. When asked how I, when purchasing a name brand product would know that the company would not stand behind their brand name before I read the manual she told me that she would have done her research.
Had this been another company or a new car I would have a replacement or a loaner. The product would be picked up at no charge, not left to a 70 year old to lift. By now I could have applied the price of the mower plus the cost of hiring someone to cut for me and I would have a riding mower.

Toro just took my money and said call our 800 number anytime. we will happily discuss your problem and courteously say F.U.

I purchased model 20332 on 4/19/15. Had to take it back to Home Depot on 5/13/15 after using it twice for failure to self-propel. Got a brand new one in June & already had service repair due to failure to start (misfire issue). Nevertheless, that issues was addressed. However now the self-propeller stopped working on the new one. Spoke to Toro manager Kevin who refused to provide his last name and they only thing he says is take it to a Toro dealer for service. I asked, "what does Toro provide for customers who are completely inconvenienced three times in a 5-month span?" and he said nothing. After paying $380.54 for this mower that has issue after issue, that's what I got - "nothing." Now I get to pay someone again to transport this mower to get serviced, pick it up, bring it back to my house. Now the icing on the cake, the Toro Service Repair Shop is a few weeks behind and 30 mins away. Man!

Since my old Toro mower was pretty old I decided to bite the bullet and get a new one. The new one has a 22" width and has 7.25 hp and it's equipped with electric start. I figured I had everything I would ever need. I guess they thought they were making some improvements from their older model but here are the Cons that I have with the new one. Grass squirts onto the top of the deck from the top of the bag opening. So much gets onto the deck that I have to remove it several times while mowing. Bad design. Even if the bag is only partially full all of the grass sits right at the front on the bag. Don't know why it doesn't get tossed to the rear of the bag. So every time you remove the bag you're picking up grass that falls out of the bag.

Since I have to pull the mower backwards several times while cutting my lawns I removed the rear deflector before even mowing for the first time as I knew it would end up under the mower. But even with that being removed it's hard to pull the mower backwards. Something in the self propel drive is dragging and it's a strain to pull it backwards, or to even push it forward when the engine is not even running. It doesn't matter where the self propel handle is, up or down. There's still something being resistant to the wheels. I have to say this purchase is very disappointing and I doubt if I'll buy another Toro.

Toro ss3200 zero turn - This riding mower has been in the shop every season I've had it since 2012. The starting system is falling apart piece by piece. I have had to replace battery, braking system, battery cables, and now the solenoid. Toro refuses to stand behind their product nor can I get any satisfaction from Heinold and Feller dealer in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Okay. A lot if not most of the bad reviews (deserved) of the Toro 20371 high wheel self propelled lawnmower are all over the inability to start / stay running after the mower ages a little... sometimes months, sometimes years. And the problem I found will stop it cold every time. It is NOT old gas, sitting gas, bad gas. It is NOT dirt in the carburetor unless you run it in a dusty area without the air filter... clean it once a year. It has nothing to do with changing the oil. I am running Mobil 1 synthetic in the engine. I first switched out the spark plug for a new one after the problem of stalling frequently or hard starting developed. There was NO change after cleaning the filter, carburetor, changing the plug, and changing the oil.

What I found shocked me because of extremely bad thought in design and engineering. This has to be intentional design in order to make the mower non operational in a couple years. The spark plug is capped by a connector that does a 180 degree turn from the wire to the plug. So far so good. The plastic molded connector pulls off the top of the spark plug fairly easily. The problem is it also pulls off the feeding spark plug wire coming from the engine fairly easily. Leaving you with the bare wire end that inserts into the spark plug end connector. The wire no doubt from vibration or checking the spark plug will break or come loose from the connector. There is no other choice. In order for the plug to be checked, you have to pull the spark plug wire connector off of the plug. When you do, chances are you will also yank the feeding wire from the engine at its connection to the spark plug cap.

Once this wire is broken, the spark will have to jump the spark plug gap and the gap in the wire to the connector. You need to find some sort of auto replacement spark plug wire that will run from the engine to the plug. The electrical connection is iffy, and diabolical, because the problem mimics all other problems with a lawn mower. The owner will go crazy taking this thing to the service center, who will likely NOT check the spark plug wire. They will check the plug and the air filter, carburetor, oil, etc etc. The consequences are people giving up and buying another mower.

I have not yet removed the top of the mower in order to track this wire, but there is no doubt the end of a spark plug wire should not disengage from the fitting that goes over the spark plug. THIS is no doubt THE problem that owners are having with BAD STARTS, no starts, shutting off after a couple minutes, etc. The consequences are frustration, cursing, and sweat by countless owners trying to keep their one or two year old Toro going. I figure some "genius" fresh out of engineering wanted to use this nifty 180 degree fitting on the spark plug, instead of the old fashioned tried and true spark wire the rest of the universe uses.

I bought my Toro Lawn Mower in the summer of 2012. The first summer using it was fine. (I mean it was brand new!!) However, after the 2nd summer the mower started acting up. Sometimes it would not start. Other times it would start but putter rather than run. I made sure the mower had new clean gas before mowing. The oil was fine. Having a mower for only one year, one does not expect to see these problems. Now having it almost 3 years, the mower starts but then stops. It does not keep running for more than a few seconds. Sometimes not starting at all.

I have invested money and time into this mower. I have changed the oil, the spark plug, and the filter. Nothing seems to make it work!! I only use the mower about 10-12 times a year!! This product is so bad it did not even last 3 years! I expect better when paying $300 for a lawn mower! I will not be using Toro Products anymore.. And a warning to those that maybe thinking about using Toro, save yourself the money and aggravation and find a better quality and trustworthy product.

We bought a Personal Pace Recycler 22 in Aug. 2013 from Home Depot. Issues started in spring 2014, where after several spring mowings, the mower would barely start but wouldn't continue to run, with several trips to local service center. Toro & the service facility blamed everything on bad gas. Toro finally paid for half of one service visit, but after several additional issues, our local service facility said they never wanted to see the mower again. It was only after taking matters into my own hands that the issues became clear. Part of the issue was indeed related to bad gas, but Toro is to blame here with a design flaw and omission of a simple fuel filter.

When running in mulching mode, the mower spews huge amounts of particulate onto the top of the mower around the gas filler. This results in much particulate getting into the gas tank, fouling the carburetor float valve. I flushed the tank & installed a cheap fuel filter in line, and I now blow the filler region off with a bicycle pump before opening.

The crud in the gas tank will rapidly contaminate the carburetor float valve seat. Local service claimed they replaced the valve seat at the first visit, but when I removed/replaced the seat, it looked as if the original valve had been removed with a tool, but from the wrong side. So I'm wondering if it was inserted upside down at the factory. The pin valve should fit into the chamfered side of the seat; if this isn't visible, it's upside down and it won't work properly. This is all shown if you look carefully at the diagram that comes with a carburetor rebuild kit. Cleaning the carburetor and the valve seat helped, but replacement was the only real fix. It's half an hour labor with a bit of practice. All in all, Toro and the local repair facility were incredibly unhelpful and defensive. The mower runs fine now, but only because I took the time to actually diagnose the problems rather than just try to shift the blame.

I spent a lot of money on a product, Toro Z Master Zero Turn 48 cut mower, that I thought would last me a great length of time since I had just purchased 3 flat acres of land and built a home. I was really shocked when I had to drop $2100 on new Hydraulics after 7 years and only 313 hours. This was supposed to be a commercial mower performing residential lawn work and the customer service manager said because I had not changed the hydraulic fluid yearly that the parts would not be covered. I get that yearly maintenance is required. I performed the standard oil changed, blade sharpening etc. every 50 hours. But if Toro thinks the hydraulic fluid needs to be changed every 50 hours, which is what I average per year, then they wouldn't sell to anyone with a business. I have a Toro Personal Pace push mower I had for my last yard, 0.5 acres but I am thinking I should switch brands now. Not a happy Toro customer any longer.

I bought a Toro lawn mower 20016 at Home Depot back in 2004. It has run without any problem since I bought it. I do give a yearly maintenance as changing oil, spark plug and cleaning after several uses. The only problem I have is the bag that it do stay with the machine while in use. What I do - clean it and continue. The problem that I have now (after ten years of use) is the cable traction that broke and cannot put a new one they are too long or I am doing something wrong. I am using #105-1845 from partstree.com.

I am 57 yrs old. Always mowed my lawn myself. Bought this mower (Toro 22" self propelled mower) from Home Depot 2 yrs ago, took it back after 3 months. Would not stay running then got to where it would not crank. The gentleman advised me to clean the carburetor. I did. That helps for about 6 mows. Now it started smoking at random times and running rough, AGAIN!!! The absolute worst machine I have ever owned. Now I am stuck with a 2-yr old piece of junk. Can't sell it and not worth rebuilding. I will not buy another Toro because of the lack of dependability this one has. Good luck if you have one.

I purchased a Toro SR 4 Super Recycler with the Kohler Engine, about 4-5 yrs ago, for about $450+. I have to say that the first yr it ran excellent. After the second year and using Ethanol gas I started to notice a little hesitation in starting and eventually Gas leaking out of the Mower through the Carb/Air filter. It took me a while to realize that gas was leaking completely out of the tank when it was not being used, so I just have to fill it with enough gas every time I use it. Also have to change the AF about 2x a yr because the leaking gas ruins the foam gasket around the air filter

I never got around to taking it into the dealer and ask to be fixed under warranty. So I can't speak for the poor cust service by Toro or how they honor their warranty. I can also say that I have only changed the oil once which was the first year, and have not changed it in almost 2 years and the mower starts 2-3 pulls and still runs good. Not sure why so many are having problems with their Toro, but I honestly think that the lower priced Toros are NOT good quality. You almost have to pay $500+ to begin to get something that will sort of last.

I bought a Toro lawnmower online, in May 2015. Toro requires you to designate a dealer. I designated Westbank Lawnmower, LLC on Terry Parkway in Terrytown, LA. The lawnmower arrived in a cardboard box which was falling apart. I noted that the cable that engages the wheel for driving assistance was broken. This was mentioned in the literature enclosed. I figured that this must be a common occurrence. Took the lawnmower to Westbank Lawnmower, LLC. Their first response was to tell me that I should have bought it from the store for the same price and it would be assembled properly if had I bought it from their store in the first place. They asked me for proof of purchase. I did not have it with me but I would email them the same day, which I did.

They said that they would call me. The store employees have been indifferent at least. They promised to call you back and they do not. Two weeks later, they called back and said that they did not have the email. I forwarded it to them again, after which they acknowledged having the original email that they could not locate. The manager called back and said that he talked to the Toro representative that it was covered by warranty (a mere $23) and it would take 2 - 3 days to receive the cable. After another week, they informed me that the cable did not come in. Never again a Toro lawnmower or Westbank Lawnmower.

I also have this product. I purchased it 3 years ago and it has been in the repair shop at least twice a year. Frankly, I could have used a lawn service for the annual cost of repairs on this piece of garbage. Home Depot takes no responsibility - they just sold it. Toro takes no responsibility. Stay away from this mower.

After the dealer had my mower since may 3 of 2015, today I'm told that your company Toro will not honor the warranty! I paid cash for this new mower Sept 23, 2012. Could only use it a couple of times as grass cutting was coming to an end. Used it all last summer and then towards the end of the summer it started to smoke, why I don't know. Put it in the shop where I bought it. Now today being the 11th of June 2015, I'm told motor not covered! I was told that the air filter needed to be changed it was plugged. How could that be when I used a wet dry vacuum to clean it after I cut the grass! Maybe the mower was used only about 30 hours, now it takes a crap? What kind of junk are you people putting out? Never again will I ever buy another Toro product again! If some ask's me about Toro mower's, well all I'm going to say is "don't waste your money, Toro does not honor it's warranty"!!!!!!

Do you remember the days when Spring came and you put fresh gas in your lawn mower, changed the oil and spark plug, cleaned your air filter and you were good to go? If you do, then the Toro 22in Recycler Mower is NOT for you. I purchased one new in April 2012 and it has suffered from chronic problems, most of which center around the finicky and erratic Kohler Engine, ever since it came out of the box. If you purchase this machine, expect it to require the services of a professional mechanic on an annual basis, and don't be surprised if your annual maintenance and repair costs regularly exceed $100.

You should also read your owners manuals - yes there are separate ones for the mower and the engine - from cover to cover, as this machine requires extensive and complicated maintenance and ANY deviation from the prescribed service schedule could void your warranty, including Toros' ''guaranty to start in the first three years of ownership." If you have a small yard like mine, you are probably better off buying something smaller, cheaper, simpler, more reliable, dependable, and easier to maintain. Actually, regardless of the size of your yard, you're probably better off buying ANYTHING else or calling a lawn service!

Toro super recycler - I bought this mower a little over a year ago to replace an old Lawn-Boy that I had had for years. The Lawn-Boy was an awesome mower but died after 18 years of use. The new Toro was ok for a few weeks but then began to run poorly. This year, it still runs poorly and it hardly picks up any grass. It just leaves large clumps of grass in my yard instead of putting it in the discharge bag. For how expensive the mower was, I was hoping it would work a whole lot better than it does.

Bought new from Home Depot, the 22 inch recycler front drive runs well. What it does not do is keep grass in the bag. The top seal is exactly worthless and shoots grass EVERYWHERE. Then when you take the bag off to stow there are sectioned baffles in the bag lid on the mower, inside lid and out, that fill up with grass. What a mess. Designers for Toro need one of these placed firmly where the sun doesn't shine. The absolutely most worthless mower in my life.

Lucky that I did not slide off mower or step to the ground with mower running. Has anyone else had this same problem? Saw online same problem. Is there a safety issue on this?

After waiting a month for the Toro 30" double blade mower and paying $1,000, it stopped running after 30 minutes the first time mowing. It took 45 minutes to cool and I was able to start it again. I called the dealer who suggested a few things to look for and said he would make it right if it didn't run, but wouldn't be able to look at it for a couple of weeks since he's so busy with other mowers. I asked for a new mower, but he said Toro would NOT replace the mower with a new one. I tried mowing again for the 2nd time. It ran for 40 minutes and died. After 30 minutes of cooling, it ran again for 40 minutes and died again. There seems to be a vapor lock problem as the gas is not getting to the fuel filter and the engine is running very hot. I will be returning the mower to the dealer today.

On April 14, 2015 I brought my Toro lawn mower Model 20197, Serial #310003988 to Center Hardware in Berlin, Connecticut since the self-propelled function was working. Center Hardware is the authorized dealer and repair facility where I purchased the mower. I informed the service technician that I believed the problem was with the transmission since the belt was not broken. The technician indicated that it would be about 7 to 10 days before they could make the repair. When I contacted Center Hardware on April 24, 2015, they indicated that they had not even had a chance to inspect the mower yet. They indicated that if the mower did not need parts it would be repaired in a few days and if a part was required it would be another week.

When I contacted the facility again on May 2nd they still had not inspected the mower. They did call me back less than an hour later indicating that they determined that a new transmission was needed. They indicated that they would order the part on Monday, May 4th and that they should have the part on May 5th and the mower should be repaired by May 6th. When I called Center Hardware on May 6th they indicated that they have not yet received the part. It has now been 22 days and the repair has not been made and I have been without a mower to cut my lawn for 3 weeks. I called the Toro Customer Care Department in Minnesota (**) and the representative indicated that there was nothing they could do about the situation other than make a note of it. The representative indicated that 3 to 4 weeks for a warranty repair was not unusual.

I am writing this review so that other people will understand that while Toro has a five year warranty on its mowers - customers should expect to be without a mower for a month when warranty work is needed. I will never buy another Toro product or purchase anything from Center Hardware. I will urge my friends to also beware!

6 seasons ago when I spent $2,800.00 on my Z422 Riding Mower, Model 74363 Zero turn, I was not aware how poor the quality and continued cost it would burden me. Within the 1st year I had to replace one of the tires and subsequently I had to replace a dead battery and then the defective muffler broke apart and fell off. Even though I was informed by a mechanic that it was a defective issue on the muffler that Toro had, Toro was only willing to pay for half of the new muffler. Now I am being informed that the engine needs rebuild and the cost will be $1,600.00. I feel that their product is not up to any kind of standard. I feel that Toro is not a reputable company and they are unable to supply a quality product and support. I never heard back from Toro after writing to them about this issue.

I bought an SR4 Super Recycler Toro to replace my 16-year-old John Deere walk behind. The John Deere was an excellent lawn mower for picking up gumballs from the Sweet Gum tree which is the bane of Henrico county in Virginia. I rarely had to do any raking to clean up my yard. The John Deere did it all. The Toro on the other hand is a miserable replacement. It either leaves the gumballs on the ground or it slings them to other parts of the lawn. What it doesn't do is pick them up and put them into the discharge bag. I complained to the CEO of Toro, but of course received no reply whatsoever. I suspect their lawn mower engineers are located overseas and have never mowed a lawn in their lives. Recommendation: If you live in Virginia, don't buy a Toro. Also, service in the Richmond area is absolutely miserable. Six weeks waiting time typically. There are so many things that don't work on Toros, the service centers are swamped.

I bought a new toro lawn mower at ogden lawn and garden Oct. 2013. Last year the housing of the air filter kept falling off. I took it to where I bought it. They said “oh the air filter is the wrong size.” I said “it was the one that came with the mower.” They put a different size on. It still fell off. I finished the season by putting it back on when it fell off. It done the same this year. On my second mowing I did not notice it and ran over it and broke it. I just back to ogden law and garden. Last year I had it in for repairs when it quit running- it was only a year old. Of course the warranty did not cover it. I have had sears mowers last 10 years. This one is not even 2 years old. Next mower I will look at sears.

I was a fan of the personal pace toro mowers but not now. The first one lasted nearly 10 years but the second one was waste of time and money. They have changed the construction of the moving parts such as power drive to plastic and the latest mower only lasted 1.5 years. After three attempts to have the toro dealer fix the power drive I will never purchase another. The plastic parts in the drive mechanism would not last and was taking the mower back to the dealer after only one pass of mowing the lawn. The wheels would stop moving and I ended up pushing the mower with the wheels dragging to finish the lawn. The dealer finally said that there was nothing else he could do so I'm going to buy another brand this spring. Toro has moved to cheap plastic parts that simply do not last!!

We bought a toro lawnmower in Aug. 2014. It was used 6 times. In Oct we tried to use it again. It didn't start. We pulled until we couldn't pull anymore. We finally gave up. We called Home Depot and was told we could not return it because it was past 30 days, that we had to ship it back to company in original box! Who keeps the big old box? Anyway we tried again today. Changed the plugs, gas and air filters. NOTHING happened. We are done. Will never buy another Toro again. Bye bye $400.

The string spool retainer broke and I tried to order a new one. The first attempt got me the wrong parts because the woman I spoke with didn't know a cover shield from a spool retainer and gave me the part number for a cover shield. I had my Toro dealer order two of them and got cover shields instead of spool retainers. I wrote a letter to Toro's Consumer Services department explaining the problem and that I couldn't use my String Trimmer without the spool retainers. Suffice to say, a lovely lady named Liz solved the problems, got me a refund for the incorrect parts, got me the two spool retainers I originally tried to order, and even tossed in a couple of extra spools of line. Thank you Liz and thank you Toro.

I purchased a 22 inch recycler mower from home depot in July 2013 with a 2 year warranty and a 3 year start guarantee. Needless to say it stopped starting in little over a year. I contacted Toro and they told me to take it to an authorized repair shop. I did and they told me it was the carburetor and that the ethanol from gas had ruined it. And that that was my fault and that it was not covered. I contacted Toro to get a better understanding and the customer service woman again said that was my fault even though I informed her that in Massachusetts we can't buy gas without ethanol. When I explained that to her she said sorry and hung up the phone on me. I spoke to the repair man and he said Toro doesn't make a mower that can handle gas with ethanol and that's there out to the warranty. DON'T BUY TORO! Horrible customer service, horrible product.

Toro Model # 20371 Internet # 203068808 Store SKU # 731533 - Home Depot: 22 in. high wheel variable speed self-propelled gas lawn mower. I started having problems after one year... It would sputter a bit but then would be ok next summer. Year 2 - just stopped working. I had a yard man cut and left in shed till next spring. The 2 year warranty was almost over. So, the dealer an authorized repair center said it was a dirty carb and filter... not covered. I paid, took it home, started and got half the yard done before sputtering and stopping. Took it back and it started for them... and was told to use fresh gas, which I did. Got it home and it died again in a few minutes. Took it back and left it.

This time they said the carb needed to be rebuilt, covered by warranty. Got it home, it worked and I got to mow almost half the yard till sputtered - had gas coming out of the exhaust and air filter. Took it back again. They contacted Kohler who said the gas is to blame because of plastic parts dissolve and clog the carb. They replaced the carb supposedly with the bad design. You can't really tell where anything is. I contacted Toro and they said “Sorry, maybe if you send the receipt for the carb cleaning maybe Toro will comp you.” To do this would have been a pain and it sounded like a long shot. Kohler just blamed me for using old gas and not premium gas. No apologies for the shoddy engine and carb.

Dealer said it is a nationwide issue and Kohler has not said it would replace the engine or have a recall. Well, it worked this time... but still there was a sputter and little rough running. Of course, I knew it was only a matter of time before it died. I used it the mower about 7 times over the summer and into the fall. I used fresh gas and did leave gas in it while it stored. I cleaned air filter. It died last week. Will start and run for a few minutes and die. I left in the shed with a half tank of gas last week. I tried to start this week but all the gas was gone - a new issue. The housing for the filter is plastic and has tabs to hold the filter in place. They failed this week too. I haven't called the dealer yet... but since the warranty is over, I guess I will get “Oh sorry, bring it in and will fix for $$$.”

Kohler engine is junk and should be replaced by Toro. They blame the gas when the engine is junk. My neighbor has an old Honda mower from the early 90's and it works fine with reg gas and he stores it with gas with no problems. I never had issues with an old Craftsman. I had that died after 7 years and I should have known Toro was not that great as my last mower was a Toro and it lasted maybe 4 years. But I will never buy Toro or anything with Kohler. There should be a class action suit against Toro and Kohler... It could be hazardous when gas pours thru the exhaust and filter when starting the engine.

We purchased a Toro mower in April 2013, model 20371 from home depot. Used it 6 times and pull start failed. Took it back to home depot and stupidly bought another one after they refunded money from the first one. The new one is the biggest piece of junk. Nothing but problems with starting and the authorized dealer keeps saying bad gas. We are fed up and my next task is to notify the BBB.

I bought a Toro Recycler 22" (Model 20370) in March 2012. I didn't have any manufacturing defects, and I never had any problems with it. It always started on the 1st try though the 3-year warranty guaranteed it would start in 3 or less. I see a lot of complaints on here are for user-error and common to all mowers. Toro has great customer service, and I plan to use them for a long time. Unfortunately, mine was stolen from my carport recently. I have ordered the exact same because of how well it worked and added on a trimmer/edger.

Personal Pace recycler - I've had my Toro 22” recycler mower for two years (bought new) and yesterday after mowing, I was cleaning it and when I pulled the cord, it stayed nearly all the way out and wouldn't retract. I can pull about 10" out and still make it start, but I can't figure out how to recoil the rest of the cord and make it fully operational. Any thoughts! I did try to remove the starter thinking I could rewind the cord, but it appear that it is riveted to the engine.

Around August of 2013 I need a walk-behind lawnmower. The 30" turf master appeared to be the mower I needed. It was the worst purchase I've made on a two thousand dollar lemon. Two months after I purchased the mower, it wouldn't cut grass 1/2 inch to the setting. It stayed in the shop two weeks. One week after getting the mower out of the shop, the wheel axle bent. To make a long story short and four more axles on the same wheel. The mower spent more time in the shop than on the grass.

After the ninth time at the shop in eight months, the Toro rep came out, had the mower overhauled and voided my two-year warranty. The hardware store said I need to make lemonade out of lemons. What a joke. I asked to upgrade to a better mower but was turned down. It's been a little over a year now and the mower just came out of the shop after it was there for 21 days. All I can say is STAY AWAY FROM THE TURF MASTER MOWERS. BUY A SNAPPER. I'VE HAD ONE FOR FIVE YEARS AND NO MAJOR PROBLEMS.

We bought a Toro 22in Recycler Lawn Mower Model #20371 from Home Depot. Originally we were satisfied, however after 8 months of use it developed a fuel leak from the fuel cap area that grew progressively worse. Initially, we thought the cap was not installed properly, however, upon further investigation we found the plastic fuel tank filler port was elongated and although the cap could be installed it could not properly seal. We notified Toro multiple times, as it is a warranty issue and took the lawnmower to Home Depot as the nearest Toro authorized maintenance facility was over 150 miles away. We discovered lawnmowers at Home Depot with the same problem. We feel this is a manufacturing defect and is a serious safety concern and have notified Toro of this multiple times, but they feel it's an isolated issue as they don't have data on this problem. They were willing to replace the fuel tank; however we felt, that due to the poor design of the fuel tank, we would continue to have the same problem. Home Depot provided a refund to us and be bought the Honda lawn mower which we like very much.

I bought this Toro 30 inch Time Master mower and immediately started having issues. I thought it may have been me at first but it was leaving a trail of grass uncut. After 2 attempts and having to cut my grass 2 times each time I finally took it in for service. So they added a ("Product Improvement") to my mower installing a baffle and new high lift blades. A few more times and the first time I used mower height adjustment the adjustment cracked. The mower also bogs down with cutting any wet or slightly high grass. The mower also does not turn over on the first start with the electric start. I have contacted Toro on this. I was told by the supervisor Liz continuing to bring the product back in for service (Which is very inconvenient due to its size and weight) is an acceptable practice. It is way too expensive to be piece mailed back together for a 4 month old machine with now 4 items already needing to be replaced. Supervisor Liz even said even with a catastrophic failure (engine etc) they will not refund your money or replace the machine they will only repair it. For this kind of Money get a different machine. With this experience this was my first Toro and definitely my last.

I have had a Toro Personal Pace Recycle mower for two (2) years. I have had frequent problems with this mower from day one. Of course, none of the problems were covered by the warranty. The warranty is not worth the paper it's written on. It's difficult to start and to keep running. Home Depot should seriously consider dropping this line of product. In the near future I will be purchasing a snow blower - but will not consider a Toro. You will be wise to consider any other product other than Toro, even if it cost more.

Since purchasing our 22-in. Recycler Toro Lawn Mower three months ago, we've had nothing but trouble. We've only used it 5 or 6 times and it has become very difficult to start. After mowing for 10 minutes or less, the mower sputters out and dies. Sometimes it will start again after several pulls and sometimes it won't. Complete waste of time and money. So frustrating!

What can I say other than ditto to all the above comments? My Toro has been nothing but problems from the start. Difficult to start... stalls (especially in tall grass), pieces easily fall off, numerous trips to the repair shop, burns oil... Need I say more??? Yesterday I retired my Toro mower for good and returned to my 20+ year old Sears mower. My Toro was difficult to start and stalled repeatedly. I finally decided to dig out my old Sears mower. After sitting for a long period of time, it started up immediately and finished the job without any problems. Guess which mower I will be using from now on?????

I bought my Toro self-propelled lawn mower spring of 2011. Always started hard. Burned a lot of oil from day one. Wouldn't start at all after probably 12 mows and I have a very small yard. June 2013, I bought another 6.5 HP self-propelled mower from Home Depot - Identical to the one I had previously bought. Thought I had just got a lemon. I used it once in 2013. Then 4 or 5 times in 2014. Now it starts and runs for about 1 minute and shuts down and will not start again till it totally cools down. Then runs a few seconds and will not start again. I have drained the fuel completely. Checked the spark and talked to Home Depot. They say the warranty is up and I need to bring it in for repairs. Of course after reading all the other complaints, I don't think I'll be wasting my time. And would not advise anyone to waste their time and money on buying a Toro mower. They're nothing but a large expense for nothing.

Toro Model 20371 - Subject lawnmower only started within 3 pulls for about 2 cuttings after I purchased it in June 2013. With each mowing, it took increasing number of pulls to the point that 20 and 30 pulls would not start it. In less than 3 months, it would not start at all. I had Toro authorized service repair replace the arm assembly and carburetor under warranty. After parts replacement, this mower started properly about 4 times, after which it reverted to its old trick of requiring 7 to 10 pulls and then 15 pulls. At this point it won't start after 30 pulls or more. Again I called the Toro customer service line and told them of problem and that I wanted my money back. The call taker directed me back to Home Depot who sold this to me for remedy.

Folks, this Toro merchandise is unmerchantable and warrants a class action lawsuit against both Toro and Home Depot for defrauding the public with false claims that its product would perform as guaranteed. If anyone has a class action lawsuit started please advise so I can join.

Toro lawnmower (kohler engine) model 20370 - I've had this completely unreliable lawnmower for three mowing seasons. I've had the carburetor rebuilt three times at two different repair shops and, again, it won't start. I've now spent more on repairs and lawn services to mow my yard while this POS is in the shop than it originally cost. At most, I get two mows per carb rebuild. I haven't mowed my lawn with this thing a half dozen times in three years. Do not buy a mower with a Kohler "auto-choke" engine.

Bought my Toro from Home Depot just six weeks ago. Starting - had issues from second week, but I kept using it (just 6 times). Definitely NOT a Guarantee to Start!!! Far from it!!! Using it the 6th time, I made two passes and stopped to empty the bag. Went to restart it and it wouldn't. Brought it for service and the repair service said it was a bent crankshaft... Said I must have hit something but didn't hit anything of substance. Not even anything on the blade more than a nick. They said Toro wouldn't cover so I called Home Depot. They refused to cover until 2016 as it was "extended" warranty. Done buying cheap Toros and DONE WITH HOME DEPOT after spending THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars there!!!! Ok, Lowe's... your turn...

Same as other person reported, bought this mower June, 2013. It advertises easy start and guarantee start straight out of the box, hardest piece of crap to get started EVER!! On fifth time for use cannot get it started, took it back to Home Depot, all they were willing to do for a mower that was less than 4 mos old is look at it. The guys in the shop said this was the number one complained about model of all the mowers. They cleaned it up, which it should not needed a cleaning only used it 5xs, but they said the carb was super sensitive on this one. They adjusted the pull telling me it will be easier to start from here on out, but I will have to clean up carb and filter OFTEN. Two more uses and sure enough had to clean it out, was able to almost finish my yard up and it flooded itself.

I called Toro, they said I can take it to authorized mechanic in my area for evaluation, even though I have on record the problems with it. I called their authorized mechanic in my area who tells me, with his experience with this machine it will need new carburetor because this model has a horrible auto choke and for future success I will need to use the premium plus gas! Do not buy this model or a Toro if at all avoidable!!!

My wife and son bought a Toro recycler model 20334 from Home Depot June 2013. The mower ran well initially. Then on April 2014, after the long winter, it was time to use the mower again. The mower will not start, but after a lot of pulls and electric start, I managed to get it started, but after the bag was filled, one has to let go of the mower to empty the bag into a yard waste container, mower did not want to restart. One has to wait for around 30 minutes before it will restart.

I tried to call a Toro dealer but the dealer wanted to charge $50, just for them to look at the mower. If they have to take the mower back to their shop, they will charge another $70. I was frustrated that I will spend $120 without any work or repair done to the mower! I talked to Toro customer service and they told me that I will have to talk to a Toro dealer. So, endless finger pointing between Toro and their dealers. Just wondering whether anyone has initiated a class action suit against Toro. If not, can we initiate one to teach Toro that they cannot keep on selling a defective product.
