Purchased twin/full electric blanket P.N.157903-000-000 Oct 2014 for $49.88 + tax. Was a brutal winter but I was toasty in bed. Admittedly, I did not launder blanket before storing in protective bag. It smelled great thanks to dryer sheets in the bag so I didn't wash it again. Winter #2 also brutal and sometimes blanket warmed me, sometimes not. Did not wash fearing machines could harm. Last 3-5 winters have used as extra blanket because it just doesn't work. Wish I'd had the money to purchase another brand but did not. Expected blanket to get me through many winters like these things used to do. Pets inherit #6 winter 2019.

Inexpensive - and does the job! I got it at Target - about 700 watts. Some of the buttons have to be prompted to respond sometimes, however. Turntable sometimes operates in reverse. As I recall, I paid about $39.99 plus tax for it.

It's been a good microwave. Smaller unit. It definitely has served its purpose. Never have had any problems with it. It's over 10 years old. I would definitely recommend Sunbeam microwave. If I were to replace it, it would be to just update the microwave. But that won't happen unless something goes wrong with it.

We have had it for several years. When I first purchased it the light bulb went out within 3 months. It wasn't the best purchase. It doesn't warm the food good but grateful. It had been over 90 days so it could not be returned. The plate in it doesn't fit properly on the thing that makes it turns. This was my first time purchasing this brand and it will be my last.

4 months, 20 emails, 2 phone calls and still no results. On Mar 22/19 I contacted Sunbeam because my heated blanket was no longer working properly. After sending the requested pictures I didn't hear back to had to email again. At that time I was asked to resend pictures which I did. Emails went to Sunbeam but were not answered. After a phone call I was asked to send additional pictures and information which I did. Again it took several emails to get a response. I was told they would replace the blanket. Of course electric or heated blankets are not in season so they don't have any. They suggested I order from what is available in their warehouse and that it could not be over the price I paid for the electric blanket.
I did not see anything offered there that I could use. Stock was extremely limited to things like heating pads, irons, a Canucks throw and nothing came close to the price I paid for the electric blanket. I emailed twice and asked if I could not wait until the blankets were once again in production and get one at that time, NO answer TO THE 2 emails I sent. Today I called and after over 1/2 an hour on hold I do not feel any closer to resolving the replacement of my blanket. I will not purchase a Sunbeam product again because it's difficult to get satisfaction when there is a problem. Having said all this the two different people I spoke to on the phone were extremely polite but it seemed as if their hands were tied as to what they could do. So now it's a wait and see if any blankets get manufactured or sent to their warehouse. Not a happy customer.

For years I have owned and used electric kettles by Proctor Silex. They worked well, in the main, and I liked them, but they did not seem to last more than two or three years each. One did not even last the full year and I got an over the counter replacement. They only allow remaining time on the original warranty for the replacement so, when that kettle failed outside the warranty period I looked elsewhere. I bought a Sunbeam kettle.
The kettle is better in so many ways I even thought of writing to the company to compliment them. The cordless seating contact base is circular so accepts the kettle from any direction, and it is very easy to seat and remove the kettle. There is a bright blue INTERIOR light which shines through the clear window when operating. It is so much better than a little red light on the handle which is not always visible. The on/off switch in the handle is smooth and positive. It just feels to be such better quality switch than I am used to. There is no visible heating element inside the kettle. The heat comes from under the smooth metal base. As a result I get very little scale, far less than I am used to, and it is quick and easy to remove every so often. I cannot recommend the Sunbeam kettle any higher. It cost just a couple of dollars more than my previous Proctor Silex but is worth ten times the difference.

I have phoned them and emailed them over the course of 4-5 months and one excuse after another. Not received replacement nor confirmation that they will honor their word from the initial call. I will be staying away from their products.

This review is regarding Sunbeam's practices relating to their "warranty". I purchased a Sunbeam (Bionaire) window fan from Amazon. It failed after one season of use. Their warranty states a limited 5 year warranty due to material defects. The unit completely going dead within the period is a material defect. Sunbeam does not answer their customer phone number. I emailed. They do two things that are deceitful: 1) Their initial reply that your warranty is no longer in effect - blatant lie.
Then, they act like they will graciously help you anyway. They state they do not have the product you purchased and offer you an older model without the same functionality that they have in stock (translated they could not sell). The problem is, looking online and in stores the current model that I purchased and failed is available ALL OVER. It is available on Amazon, in Costco, Target, WalMart - everywhere! Judging from other reviews they do this as a repeated business practice. They need to get indicted as this is clearly criminal.

I purchased Sunbeam Sleep Perfect Quilted King Electric Blanket 11.07.2018. I removed it over summer and stored it in its original box. I have not washed it. I put it on my bed today 18.04.2019 and there is no power getting to the blanket. I cannot turn it on. Even though I have plug it into different sockets still no good. After paying $248.00 for I thought the best that would last me a few winters at least I am now without the blanket and no doubt have to deal with the crap that goes along with most companies that cannot provide the goods you paid for. HELP. I should have gone to Kmart.

I purchased a heated throw in October 2018. In December 2018 it caught fire putting a burn on my mattress burning my duvet, my duvet cover, my mattress protector. Yes there is now a small burn mark on my mattress. It also damaged two of my storage cubes which I keep by my bed and had I’ve been asleep I could have lost my life, the mess that it made when I had to use the fire extinguisher it was a disaster, I contacted Sunbeam Canada and told them what happened. They sent me a replacement blanket. It was a twin size heated blanket. What I had before was a heated throw. They sent me a twin size heated blanket which was fine however they told me to send the damaged one back with documentation i.e. photos of the damages. They also told me to send them a price list for replacement articles which I did.
I sent the blanket back in February as I had waited all through January for them to respond to my emails which they had not done until I called them. When I called them they sent it to executive resolution. Now once I started speaking to executive resolutions I told them that I was not going to send the blanket back to them until I received an email confirmation about what had been going on. As soon as I sent that email I sent the blanket back with the documentation that they requested. Now I called him a week later to see if they had received the blanket. They did. I then proceeded to say or ask them how long would it take before their investigation would be concluded and I could expect an answer from them or a decision from them. They said 4 to 6 weeks.
I decided that I was going to give them the six weeks which brought it up to April 7 2019 which was yesterday. So today I called them and they started to tell me that it would take a few more days and I said, "No you are going to call your investigation department and you are going to find out what the decision is and you are going to call me back within the hour so I get a call back about 45 minutes later." And they say, "Oh they denied the claim because they don’t have the proper documentation." That was the first thing they told me. The claim was denied not because the blanket had not been the cause but because they did not have the proper documentation which I had sent so I got a little bit miffed one would say and I told him.
I said, "That is ridiculous. Why did no one tell me this? Why could no one call me? Now you’re telling me that this claim is denied because of lack of documentation. No you have the blanket and you have all the documentation that you asked for." Not once did they ever say there was nothing wrong with the blanket until I said to them on the second or third call.
I said, "Had you have had the decency to call me before the deadline before I had to chase you? Had you have had the decency to call me and tell me the claim is denied because after due investigation it has been determined that we were not at fault and there is nothing wrong with the blanket. We have determined that it must’ve been damaged by an external source. Had you have told me that I would’ve accepted that decision. But no. What you’ve been telling me all day today is that it’s lack of documentation." Then after that they turn around and decide to say that the blanket was not at fault. "We found it was an external source." Well why did you not tell me that? Why did you not start with that? Why do I have to chase you and why do you tell me this after I told you why?

I purchased a Sunbeam Heated Sherpa Throw Blanket December 10, 2018 from Amazon as a Christmas present. Within the month of January the heating element got a short which caused the blanket to stop heating to its original temperatures and was 'spotty' at best for heat coverage. Contacted Sunbeam for a warranty on the blanket as it is stated it has a 5 year warranty on the selling page for Amazon (which the product's page has now since been deleted or the product discontinued).
The original e-mail was sent to them 2/3/19, and I finally received a response 25 DAYS later after a 'verification' e-mail. In the original e-mail I provided the receipt for the transaction, the date of purchase, the HTML link of the receipt, the model number of the heated throw blanket, and my address (as the advertisement clearly stated a 5-year warranty, I would expect a replacement). I understand that the response to my initial e-mail has a general flow that must be adhered to (eg ask these questions, only these questions), however after providing the said information, they required it again.
I'm not worried about the blanket not working within a month, it can be replaced as outlined by their warranty stating it can. What bothers me is the complete lack of quick customer service on this issue with NO follow up beyond an automated message for 25 days. Sunbeam, invest in customer service representatives as it is becoming apparent you don't care about your customer's loyalty to your brand, let alone your products.

I am always cold, always! I wanted it for my birthday in December and got it from Costco (so we do get our money back), however, that is not what I wanted. Up until it quit working (38 days) it was perfect! I loved it! The color (royal blue), the size (oversized king), the fabric (micro-plush fiber), the dual controls (my spouse does not like it as warm as I do), etc., and then one day it just quit working. I followed all of the troubleshooting steps, checked online for any tips and nothing! They don't have anymore and I refuse to pay almost double the price anywhere else along with a color that I don't want for such a hefty purchase! I have seen some pretty bad reviews for Sunbeam products, but I have never had any issues. My 88 year old great grandmother used this heated throw blanket all day every day for a few months before she passed away and now the blanket is mine. It never overheated for her and it hasn't for me. Low heat delivers a pleasant subtle warmth, medium is a very calming snugly heat, and high is great for winter or in cold rooms which helps save on heating costs. I love the 3 hour automatic shutoff because it gives me peace of mind in case I accidentally fall asleep with it on. I believe it was purchased in store unlike a lot of the bad reviews I have seen. As with any appliance, I recommend not buying from places like eBay because that just isn't bright. Anyways, I love this product as well as my Sunbeam heating pad and hand heating pad. As far as I am concerned, 5 stars all the way!

I have had several of these due to chronic pain issues. Unfortunately, they do NOT last long. I am only getting 6 months max on them and then have to fight with Sunbeam to replace the product. I've had to turn at least 3 back in to Sunbeam. This is all due to control failure, overheating, and the item just stopping to work all of the sudden. Today I had another break and the controller is actually melted in. This is the 2nd one in the past 2 years that this has happened with. Luckily I only use it myself and monitor the use very carefully otherwise my whole freaking house could burn down. This is VERY frustrating, inconvenient, and scary. I replied to the email (as her sign-off at the end indicated I could contact her with further questions) and asked about the warranty and if I did need to repair it where I should go. No response. I emailed 4 additional times and had no response!
When I did try to call their customer service line I was put on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up on before I could speak to anyone. CS rep says, "Peel label on back of microwave, paste to plain white paper, copy the receipt, send to Galanz NJ HQ via trackable method and wait 8-10 wks for refund. Also... don’t throw the oven away until you receive refund." Stupid but I did as told. Apparently ovens are made by Galanz, a Chinese co., so Sunbeam washes their hands of it. Galanz only has China phone number listed on their NJ website, so you can’t call without adding more cost & they probably don’t speak English if you did spend the money. It’s 4 months later. Still no refund. Escalated by CS rep, via email, to corporate accounting to find out where refund is.
Called back in 2 wks. “No answer from corporate”. Supervisor gives same answer. “We don’t know, we can only email, there is no phone number for our corporate offices and we haven’t heard back yet.” Each time I call, same excuses. Last time she added a new one... They recently moved & were behind in refunds. Asked her when they moved, first she stuttered, then she thought March. I said, “I started the clock for 8-10 wks. Wait on JAN 16th when they signed for the documents that I sent to the “new” address they supposedly just moved to in March.” She couldn’t explain that fact. They are all just a bunch of liars, trying their best to make you get too tired to fight. I’m retired. I’m not going away... Got plenty of time to be a thorn in their side. They are crooks who steal your money and don’t stand behind their products. I’m leaving reviews wherever I can to warn people of Sunbeam and Oster products.

I spent a while giving them information and testing the throw only to have them tell me it would be better if I returned it to Amazon, but the 30 day return period had already expired. Then I was told that Amazon buys older stock from them which accounts for it being unreliable was the implication. So why is Sunbeam selling unreliable, older stock to Amazon?
After waiting 20 minutes on hold to see if they would send me a label with free shipping to return the product under the warranty, I was told to package it up, make my own label, pay the postage myself and return it for repair (4-6 weeks). I have read so many bad reviews on these 2 products and it baffles me. I'm wondering if people actually order their products directly from the company. It seems not one person has returned their non working items back to the store they purchased it from.
If I open something & it doesn't work I don't call the manufacturer. I simply return it from where I purchased it, there isn't many places that doesn't accept returns whether you have the receipt or not. Department stores, drug stores, Amazon and eBay have no problem returning defective items back unlike customers who did not buy it directly from the manufacturer.
If you register your products as soon as you get them and it's over 90 days then I understand calling the manufacturer. I have been fortunate to have been able to email companies I did have issues with and get a prompt response. Most of the complaints I've read made it appear they did not work from the time they opened them when they got home. It's a shoddy product. My advice don't Buy. Unfortunately because of my RA I have to have heat or I'm in severe pain. And around here it's the only product you can find in electronic blankets.

I spent 2 days trying to order items with a promotion code that they sent me. I sent several emails, but no reply. I did the online chat - they referred me to a number to call after about 30 minutes of waiting for a reply. I called the number - was only hold for 15 minutes - then they told me they couldn't help and to call another number. Finally reached someone and she was able to help - but had me up my order to get over $50 for free shipping. She said she couldn't offer it with less items. Fine - I placed an order. And then the chat lady came back online and offered me free shipping on just one item - under $50. So I told her that the phone rep said I had to get the order over $50 for free shipping and I didn't appreciate being conned, as she had just offered me free shipping on a $15 order.
Instead of validating my concern, she basically said no one made me order that many. Nice customer service! And when I told her so, she said she didn't offer me free shipping on one item. I then cut and pasted her own words, which said just that. She said I misinterpreted it. Whatever... I can see Sunbeam doesn't really care about their customers.

I purchased a Sunbeam Heating Pad in the first few days of March 2017. In the few days leading up to March 5th & using the heating pad on a recliner for pain in my lower back, I noticed even on lowest setting the heating pad was extremely hot so I used a thick towel between the heating pad and my back. On March 5th I shut off the heating pad and went to bed. Several hours later I was awoken by banging on my door and the sprinkler system raining down, I have a canopy bed so I was protected from feeling the water, besides being in a complete dead sleep from not feeling well that day. Needless to say that my apartment and the down stairs apartment were completely flooded by sprinkler system in ceiling, the fire department came took chair downstairs & 3 fire Marshal's deemed the cause to be a faulty heating pad. Thankfully no one was injured but it caused 50,000 in damages to my belongings, thankfully I had Renter's Insurance.
The lady downstairs did not but was covered by the owners of complex to my knowledge? Both apartments were deemed inhabitable & I was forced to leave the only home I knew for over 7yrs because of water damage. It would take months to restore. They care very little for the little guy, the apartment complex was income based & I could not find another income based repayment within 50miles that was available so I was forced to rent & almost pay double a month for a much smaller apartment. Sadly Sunbeam didn't give a hoot, the fire was deemed an accident and "move on" was what I got when I called. Even though it was THEIR FAULTY ITEM THAT CAUSED SUCH DESTRUCTION!!
I will NEVER use a plug in heating pad EVER again, or ANY Sunbeam product!! Sunbeam hides how many fires or harm their products cause & sadly ignore any complaints, I had the receipt and the box but they were in room where fire started and destroyed by the FIRE!! But by my credit card can provide date/time purchased at neighbor Walmart just a few days prior to the fire. I just pray that someone reads this before purchasing their product, it may just save a life because it almost took mine...

I'm well into my adulthood. The reason I've never owned an electric blanket was fear of it catching fire. I saw a Sunbeam heated throw at the end of the 2016 winter season and the price was too good to pass up. This probably almost cost me my life. I fell in love with this. Who doesn't want warm sheets and blankets while dozing off? I loved the concept that it automatically turned itself off after two hours. Well, at least that's what happened the first three months. I'd put the blanket on LOW and go to sleep and in two hours, it would automatically turn off.
Last night, thankfully I woke up about three hours after going to bed. So the heated throw should've been off at least one hour prior to me waking up. Instead, the Sunbeam heated throw was blistering hot. Thankfully I don't put it directly on my skin. I have two other sheets between the Sunbeam heated and my body. I was shocked after waking up to a fiery hot blanket! But here's the kicker, when I looked at the remote, it was OFF! So this Sunbeam heated throw malfunctioned and started delivering "high" heat when it was suppose to be off. I snatched it out of the plug. I will NEVER sleep with this thing plugged up again. In another hour or two, this Sunbeam heated throw probably would've caught on fire and I'd be dead.
In the morning I immediately Googled "Sunbeam heated throws overheat" and found a plethora of other people who have had the same thing or worse happen. So bottom line, DO NOT BUY Sunbeam products. As I read the complaints, it's not only electric blankets, it's many of their other products as well. My heart goes out to Trish of Tacoma, WA who wrote a review on this site on January 10, 2005. Don't buy Sunbeam! Or stop sleeping with it.

Purchased two Queen size "Rest & Relieve" mattress pads 11/2014, total $ 239.66. One was a gift for my daughter and one was for me. Used for two winter seasons. We removed from the bed, laundered, and stored during the warm months. When I took mine off the bed last week and washed gently as instructed and then lined dried we noticed that the underside of the pad was completely torn (image attached). It happened to my daughter's first (which was a gift from me). At the time I thought was an isolated case but then I washed mine and the same thing happened.
I called Sunbeam to make them aware that there was a problem and although there is a 3-year warranty on the product (and I bought these 16 months ago) the best that they would offer would be to have me return the mattress pad to their warehouse for inspection. They were very reluctant to offer that. When I complained that I didn't feel I should have to pay postage to have them look at what was clearly defective merchandise they offered me a pre-paid postage label but they made it clear that they typically don't do that. They also informed me that if my daughter would like to resolve the same issues that I just spent 10 minutes on the phone discussing with them she would have to call separately.
They would not extend that same offer for both mattress pads even though they were bought at the same time by me and had the exact same problem. I thanked them but, no thanks, it was a gift and I feel responsible for giving my daughter something that clearly was not made well and now they want her to take time out of her work day to go through the same nonsense that I did. I expected Sunbeam to stand behind their products especially since there is a 3 year warranty on this product and it was not inexpensive.
I wrongly assumed that the Quality Control department at Sunbeam would want to see the problem, especially since it happened to two different mattress pads at the same time - that to me shows there's a real Quality Control issue. I will take them back to Bed, Bath & Beyond because unlike Sunbeam they do stand behind everything they sell. Not surprisingly - Bed, Bath & Beyond no longer carries this product.

These are expensive blankets and they sure as heck should be lasting more than two years (if they last that long).

I now have large, painful blisters on my legs from this "reliable" blanket burning me in my sleep. Very unsatisfied with this product. My grandmother bought it at Walmart, but does not know where the receipt is, so I don't know how to return it for a refund, and do not want to exchange it on another, as I am afraid to try it again.

I had bought a Sunbeam electric blanket. On the outside of the package it stated a rebate, coupon inside. I opened the package and found that the coupon listed an "expires by" date, which at that time had passed. The outside of the package said nothing about an expiration date for the rebate. I contacted Sunbeam, saying it was unfair to list the expiration date only on the inside of the package only, and would they please honor the rebate. They refused to honor the rebate. Sunbeam has since then on my "avoid" list.

Why or how can a company stay in business if they refuse to accredit themselves with the BBB or honor their warranties? These people need to be shut down. The heating pad, purchased at Target, provides heat only inconsistently, with the interior heating element cycling on and off continuously. It's a shame that a person cannot count on a company such as Sunbeam to provide a halfway decent product anymore. Regardless of which person is responsible for marketing this heating pad as effective, I have purchased my last Sunbeam product. No more mixers, toasters, irons, blankets.... Absolutely nothing! With plenty of other manufacturers from which to choose. There is no reason Sunbeam deserves my loyalty. In addition, I promise to spread the word about Sunbeam's incompetency among all my friends and anyone who will listen.

Redo entire bed, check and reattach all cords, check plug ins, unplug 3x, jump down, turn around etc. Send it back at our expense for Jarden to test? Like I'm doing this just to get attention. I admit I was looking for a new kettle which had a good looking appeal to sit in my kitchen. I decided on the Sunbeam Cafe Series Kettle in White! A few months after purchase, the lid was sticking. I did not have a chance to take it back to store and just put up with it, but then the clear vertical strip down the side (showing the water level) suddenly had a fine crack line near the bottom (of the strip). I contacted the store and was advised I had to contact Sunbeam (because it was now 10 days out of warranty) - What a waste of time that would be. Very disappointed. When you pay $$ for a product you expect it to last but does not seem to be the case anymore. I will never buy Sunbeam again, and I will discourage all from doing so as well. I received the Sunbeam Heated Blanket in 2011 as a gift. I made a call on 10/28/14 to 800-892-7684 to report that I was still under warranty and needed to have the blanket repaired or replaced. I was told I could not be helped with the repair because I did not have a receipt for purchase in my possession. I did remind customer service personnel (Anne) that since this was a gift, I was not in possession of the receipt, nor could I obtain this. She said if I attempted to return item without a receipt I would be charged for fixing the item.
I believe it is unfair to expect someone to have a receipt when they receive a gift. Since I was happy with my gift, I had no reason at the time to request a receipt because I did not have reason to return it. Although my blanket stopped working after only approximately 4 year of use, I was hoping to at least have it repaired free of charge. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to voice my grievance.

We have a Sunbeam Soft Touch Automatic Heating Pad Model 790 (E12107, Cat. 92 on back of control). It has performed well for a number of years. We can’t remember when we bought it, maybe 10 years or more ago. Yesterday when my wife was using it for her leg after a fall, the control started smoking. Since she can’t walk on her leg, she was trying to get up to unplug it. I rushed over and pulled the plug. The control smoked and smelled for quite a while and the back of the control had a spot where the plastic was melting in the area towards the top left corner. I can’t imagine what would have happened if she had been asleep.
Granted this unit is well out of warranty and if it had just stopped working, I would have thought nothing about it and would have just bought another one. What concerns me is the fact that the control was shorting out and would have soon melted through the plastic housing. It seems to me there should have been some type of fail-safe mechanism built into this that would have shut it off (fuse?) so this would have not happened. Just be warned! Be aware of this if you are still using this model of heating pad. By the way, the unit was made in China.

We bought a Sunbeam electric blanket in 2009. We had it until Nov. 10, 2011. It had one control. It fits a full size bed. On Nov. 10, 2011, I walked from the kitchen to the living room. I smelled and saw a haze of smoke. I asked my husband where the smoke was coming from. He then saw smoke coming out of the top of our bedroom door. He felt the door to see if it was hot. When he pushed it open, our bed was in flames. My husband had just turned it on 30 minutes before. We lost our home and everything in it because of this Sunbeam electric blanket. Not only did we lose the home we were living in, my husband had been building a home next to the one we were living in. It also caught fire, has smoke, water damage, and part of the attic burned out! It has to be gutted and redone because of this blanket. We do not have the paper work or the warranty. It all burned in the house. Sunbeam should be held responsible for this, but I doubt that will happen. We are both disabled. We must start from scratch again.

I purchased microwave oven, model SM0701A7E, for my daughter's dorm room in August 2010. She complained that it keep shutting off. I attributed it to the power strip that it was plugged into, so I didn't check it until just a couple of days ago. I tried heating up a pyrex cup of water. The unit shutoff after 4 minutes due to overheating. Now when I say "overheating", I mean the top of the microwave was untouchable because it was so hot. I called Sunbeam to find out if there was any recall on this product. They said I was the first complainant concerning this model. The representative told me to unplug the microwave so it could reset to factory conditions. I didn't think what I was doing "changed" the factory conditions. (setting the timer to 5 minutes and hitting "start")
I told the rep I was more concerned about the "overheating". And then she told me that this was "normal" for this product. When I told her my home microwave didn't do this, she told me I couldn't compare microwaves. I don't have the Target receipt from last year, so I'm unable to return it. I just want to make sure other parents who are going to buy a microwave for their kids' dorm room don't buy this model, because of the potential of causing a fire.

About 6 months ago, I purchased a $100 clothes iron from our local Kmart. It was a Sunbeam brand. I then noticed that the iron was shorting out every power point in the house and I constantly had to go reset the fuses. I contacted Sunbeam and they said, "It's not our problem the item is faulty. Take it back to Kmart.” I then said, "It’s a Sunbeam product and I want you to help me." He was very, very rude and said, "Kmart bought it off us, it’s no longer our problem and we don't have facilities to fix it." So, what he is saying is that once the product leaves Sunbeam, it is no longer their problem. So if I buy a Toshiba computer from our Harvey Norman, is it not a Toshiba issue? So, what about my money? I don't have a receipt because I bought the item in good faith and threw away the box.
What the heck is our country coming to? Customer service is nonexistent anymore. Once you have paid the money, they want nothing more to do with you. They don't even have a place you can send faulty products to repair them. What a joke. I can’t use two of my electrical sockets as they now spark. I have just repaired the third Sunbeam made Mr. Coffee all with the same problem. This has taken place over about a three year period. I have also read some descriptions of problems with the coffee maker that probably are a result of the same issue: pour water into the receptacle at the top of the machine, only to have the water drain out the bottom all over the counter and floor. This is an FTX43-2, a very popular coffee maker but nevertheless a piece of junk seemingly engineered to fail in short order from a very simple engineering problem. There are two rubber-like hoses in the interior to the coffeemaker. They are connected to metal water inlets or outlets. In no case, is there a ferrule impressed into the metal male inlet/outlet intended to keep the hoses from easily coming off especially if the hose is just barely long enough as in the case I found today.
This is my daughter's coffee maker and she asked me to look at it for her. Well, this is clearly a user fixable thing though in this case I had to add a hose clamp because the hose really was just too short. Well, it would be fixable by anyone with reasonable fixing skills except for one thing. You have to remove the base cover which is secured with 6 screws, no problem you say? Four of the screws are ordinary Philips Head screws, but two, under the two rubber feet in the front that are accessible by prying the rubber feet off.
Well, a very clever profit center at Sunbeam decided to make these two screws (seemingly for no other reason than to throw road blocks in the way of someone aiming to fix this thing themselves) not ordinary Phillips head or even ordinary Torx head screws but they are safety torx head screws. A torx head screw is a relatively new screw head type that is shaped like a six pointed star. They are readily available at most hardware stores but Sunbeam decided they needed to be safe so they use the safety torx. this makes it impossible to insert an ordinary torx driver head into the screw because right in the middle of the six sided depression in the screw head is a steel post/pin that keeps the driver from seating in the screw, rendering you helpless. Now, you have three choices: decide it isn't fixable and throw it away, and buy another one just because you can't push the hose back on and secure it with a hose clamp. The other solution is to buy a set of safety torx drivers.
Sometimes, they are hard to find because they are used primarily by technicians who have a need or authority to breach safety screws. If you can handle hot water in a coffee machine you should(!) have enough intelligence to know if you are going to open up the coffee maker you should unplug it from the wall first. Water and electricity do not mix happily together. I get so fed up with our capitalist industrialists who turn out such junk they are not interested in producing a fine product, but a product that produces a fine profit at the smallest investment they can make.
I call this cheating and there are way too many of us in the middle class seem to have no problem with this scum class who get all kinds of tax breaks, incentives, and outright favors and still want more profit by sending the production of their half-** products to China to be produced by underpaid workers.
