Model SMH9207ST, poorly manufactured. All they had to do was spray conformal coating on the electronics to prevent this. Glad this happened, was getting ready to buy a washer/dryer and TV. I will never purchase another Samsung product. Not cheap.

I bought the SMH9207 paid 400 plus tax for it. It was supposed to be the top end unit. Within a year the front door had been replaced under warranty three times. Now the unit is two years old and the fan will come on for no reason when you're not even near the unit. The fan does not run when you turn it on and it's running and the unit comes on when you open the door. It's dangerous and a PO junk. I would say what I really think but must keep it clean. Samsung was very unhelpful when dealing with the trouble the first year. I took out the unit and bought a cheap Magic Chef and so far it's a far better unit for 1/3 the price. I will never buy a Samsung appliance again.

In late 2012, I upgraded my white GE kitchen appliances with stainless steel appliances. So I purchased a Samsung stainless steel gas stove and microwave and a Whirlpool fridge from Lowe's. The stove and fridge continues to operate smoothly. The microwave worked well the first year then begin to malfunction. The power would cut off in the middle of heating a meal. I would unplug the power cord then plug it back in the outlet after 10 secs to turn the power back on. I thought that it could be an issue with the power outlet or breaker. My electrician confirmed both sources were working properly. So this malfunction occurred often until recently the microwave goes out after 5 secs of running. Then I repeat the plugging and unplugging every 5 to 10 secs until the food warms up. This is frustrating because I always have to drag the tall bar stool and use it as a stepping stool to reach the power outlet inside the rear of the cabinet.
Sometimes I get so fed up that I just use the oven or stove to heat up my food. I called Samsung service center today and the rep was very polite, took my model number and zip code and provided me the telephone number of the nearest service technician. I called the number and it was not in service. I called Samsung back and this time I reached a rep who was really nice but we struggled to understand each other because of our accents. I explained to him about my earlier call and that the telephone number wasn't in service. He checked and confirmed that was the only service tech listed in my area. I asked what's the alternative. I was advised that since my microwave was out of warranty that I would need to find my own repairer. I asked what is the lifespan of this model because I've had it 3 yrs and it's been malfunction most of the time. My last microwave came with the home in 2001 and still worked fine over 10 yrs later. This is unacceptable.

We purchased this microwave (SMH1987ST) in July 2010 and never had a problem until a month ago. The microwave would just come on by itself randomly, usually in Baked Potato mode. Only opening the door would shut it off. It was terrifying because I had no confidence in leaving home or sleeping at night with it plugged in. I googled this issue and found common complaints of the same nature on many different forums, a good bit of them here.
I then called Samsung's customer service line and got the run-around that it was no longer under warranty and they'd send a tech but it was on me. I then posted on their Facebook page with the issue and was told to call back and ask for the "Executive" Customer Service team. When I did, I got a little pushback on being put through to them but eventually was. I told the Exec team representative the issue, that they knew about it and that there were over 300 complaints on this website alone. That seemed to get their attention.
They sent out a tech last week, he ordered the part and came back today and installed a new control board free of charge. He did say he frequently sees this same issue or the one where people get the dreaded "SE'' message and the microwave panel doesn't work at all. My advice is to be firm and use social media to get their attention. They WILL make it right when pressed to do so. I never would have pursued it further had I not seen other posters say that asking for their Legal Dept. or mentioning the bad reviews got them satisfaction.

Terrible quality. Why? Poor construction, handle breaks easily, uneven, low powered heating, turntable malfunction. Bought it to match a Samsung stove. First mistake. As usual, Samsung has all the technologies but refuses to manufacture quality products that perform as good as they look i.e. all Samsung cell phones, the Ceran-top convection oven. Stay away from this brand. LG is much better in most instances.

After six months from date of purchase, the fan would go on by itself. I wasn't using the microwave or the stove and would be in another room. Called for service and the technician said it was a circuit breaker fuse. He told me once he fixed it, it would never happen again. Well, it's been a year now and it is happening again. Also when the light under the microwave is on, it will go off and on as the microwave door is opened and closed. The only way I feel this junk is safe is to unplug it when I'm not using it. Is there a lawsuit going on I need to know about?

We purchased the Samsung Microwave brand new less than 18 months ago. Installation was done professionally and we experienced no initial issues, however, one evening out of nowhere we began to smell burning plastic coming from the kitchen. Upon further inspection, the Samsung Microwave was smoking, heating up and began smoldering.
The microwave was plugged into an outlet and hung above the stove but not in use when the incident occurred. No electrical issues from the power lines or outlet itself. Fire department advised it was caused by the Microwave. Glad we were home otherwise the entire house would be up in flames from the microwave spontaneously combusting. Would not recommend, stay away!!

Purchased a Samsung microwave 2 years ago. After six months of use, panel board would not work. Under warranty - motherboard was replaced. Six months later, now out of warranty, same problem. Motherboard needs replacing. Contacted Samsung and tried to direct me to schedule service repair at my cost. I asked both service support people what they would do, if they would purchase another Samsung product. Neither of them would answer as far as what they would purchase. Leads me to believe they would not purchase a Samsung product. I would strongly advise people to purchase anything but a Samsung product.

We bought Samsung microwave, to go along with all other Samsung appliances. We paid several hundred dollars for unit, and have been highly disappointed. Without warning, microwave stopped working entirely. We had all breakers tested to ensure the issue was in fact the microwave. Then, called "Samsung Support". When we were told this wouldn't be covered by warranty *though they weren't sure what the problem was, and advised we would need to "schedule service".
An appliance that you pay good money for, should continue working - and if it doesn't, it should be considered faulty by the manufacturer. Forgive me for not wanting to pay Samsung any more money for selling a bad product, being less than helpful, and no guarantee that even if they fix the unit, that we won't continue to have problems.
Additional side notes: We used this microwave minimally, always kept it clean, and even advised Samsung "Support" that we just needed them to provide us a website - in order for us to refer to make the repair ourselves. Avoid the hours of wasted time if you've had your microwave over a year. And, in hopes you haven't already bought a Samsung unit, read reviews of other manufacturers and the way they handle complaints, before making an investment. Had we done that, we wouldn't be shelling out hundreds of dollars for a replacement - our savings for Christmas gifts will now be covering malfunctions of something that is less than 2.5 years old. Thank you for your time.

Microwave broke under warranty (4 months old). Called Samsung and they dispatched local appliance technicians. The local technicians indicated they cannot repair the microwave and requested the microwave be replaced. The Samsung customer service center responded they will not replace the microwave. Samsung's response is to keep sending replacement parts to try. In some cases Samsung has sent the same part twice. At this point my microwave has been under repair for 6+ weeks and no resolution. Samsung has absolutely terrible respect for their clients or the advice of the service technicians. Even if repaired I worry about the safety of the product post repair as I have seen reports on this site of Samsung microwaves catching fire. Terrible service from Samsung in respecting their product warranty. Do yourself a favor and purchase another brand of appliance.

My oven was heating correctly and now won't heat at all. I looked up the code to troubleshoot (E08) and found it was a common problem with Samsung oven.
I called Samsung and was on the phone for 2 hours with no assistance. I contacted Lowe's and they were not helpful either. I have an oven that doesn't work- Samsung and Lowe's have offered no assistance. I think Samsung believes in purchasing another one. I purchased this microwave from Home Depot in Squamish BC, and have not stopped regretting it after numerous and non-stop issues. The power level button has never worked, the magnetron broke, the machine ran continuously without shutting off, it displayed multiple error codes. The sensor pad, key pad and magnetron (everything but the fan and light) were all replaced within the 1st year, costing much more than replacing it and the same issues are still happening now just outside of warranty. I was told I could purchase a extended warranty any time within the 1st year and was not able to after many attempts. After much complaining and pressure, Home Depot did advocate for me to get a new replacement unit but was not successful.
This horrible experience could have been far less stressful if not for the inflexible and unreasonable policy of Samsung. The many agents I spoke with were polite and understanding but completely unable to provide reasonable customer service due to the "strict," wasteful and outrageous Samsung repair "rules" policies and guidelines. I am awaiting to hear back from them after another phone call but based on the last year of my experience with this appliance, am not holding my breath. I hope this review saves someone else from this very frustrating experience. There are hundreds of videos on youtube and complaints highlighting the same issues we have had with our machine. These appliances seem to be consistent lemons.

Worse, Samsung dishwasher broke in 18 months and not only leaked on my hardwood floors but got so hot I needed a potholder to turn off after 5 hrs and it wouldn't stop. Whenever we were in the market to replace our appliances, I always looked to Samsung first. We have 4 Samsung TVs, a refrigerator, 4 smartphones, Blu-Ray player and a washing machine and we love them all. That was until I had the misfortune of purchasing an over the range microwave. Here you've read all the stories about these microwaves and their failure on sensor errors just after the warranty expires. It's a poorly designed product that fails due to the humidity created when cooking on the stove. The only thing worse than the design of the product is Samsung's support for this inferior product.
I haven't replaced the unit yet because I'm afraid the next unit I purchase (Hint: not a Samsung product) will encounter the same problems. I have a countertop microwave someone gave me so I don't really need an over the range model. But when I do the kitchen remodel, I'm not sure what to put in its place. Obviously I need some sort of vent so that's where my research now takes me.

I purchased all Samsung appliances after remodeling the kitchen. I did not do my homework and purchased my appliances based on the name. Wrong thing to do. My microwave worked about 14 months and then it had the SE code. I called Samsung and they would not fix it as it was out of warranty. I had it repaired myself. The repair lasted less than 2 months when the microwave quit and the SE code appeared again. So I have used for the past 3 years a reliable counter top microwave while I have the Samsung microwave over the oven and it does not work. Sad. I also purchased the refrigerator, side by side with ice and water in the door. The refrigerator just like the microwave started making this awful noise. It over freezes things no matter the setting. The ice maker quit, and again Warranty so Samsung says its my problem.
I thought this was a quality company with quality merchandise. Please read the reviews and do not purchase Samsung. I could kick myself for not purchasing Kenmore. That was what we replaced when we remodeled. Our Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator was almost 30 years old and still worked. Never had a problem with it. My sister took it for herself after we replaced it with the Samsung and three years later it is still running great. I am very upset and totally dissatisfied with my Samsung purchases.

Samsung microwave SMH9187ST - We experienced the error over the weekend (lots of fun having beeping coming from an unknown place in the house at 3 AM); unplugged and plugged back in in the morning, but it only worked for a couple hours before the SE error and beeping starting again. UGH... I am not brave enough to pull open the unit on my own, so I called Samsung and initial support told me they could do a service call at my expense where the unit is out of warranty. I stood my ground and politely reminded the service rep of how many errors are noted for this unit online, the commitment of Samsung to address the issue, and that numerous other owners have had this service provided for free - even for out of warranty units.
After some further holding I was transferred to the Executive Service Center where the rep. agreed to cover the cost of the service call and repair provided it is in fact the touchpad that needs to be replaced. If the issue is something else (highly unlikely), I would own the cost. Seemed reasonable so I agreed. I am now pending a call from a local service vendor to schedule the work. The 'kill 'em with kindness' approach worked well in getting them to work with me and cover the cost of the repair. Overall this has been a pretty reliable unit for the past 3 years. I just don't get why they don't do a full recall if this is going to happen with every unit eventually.

Then the Magnetron failed (wouldn't heat), after much arguing with Samsung, they finally sent someone to replace it. Then had another issue with the unit functioning (of course just past the 1 year warranty part); had to replace the sensors at the door (my cost). Then we get the SE error - the remedies online don't work, so, only solution to replace the entire control panel?? This is an extremely poor design. SAMSUNG should not have sold this design. I found the YouTube videos and the ConsumerAffairs reports about this and decided to try the Control Panel cleaning fix. It worked for a few weeks then each successive cleaning resulted in shorter and shorter repairs. Finally I called Samsung who said I blew it by trying to repair it myself (didn't matter that it was already out of warranty). I asked to speak to Legal and was told I could only write/email them. Asked for a supervisor who reiterated the first story that I would have to do out of pocket repair service. Asked for someone else and eventually got Executive Customer Relations. Eventually she relented and said she would authorize their repair service to replace the Control Panel only.
If that didn't fix the problem I was on my own. I okay'd that hoping that was all there is to do. They hope you give up at the first recitation of their policy against the customer trying to fix it themselves. Cite the # of complaints, the fact that others have had theirs replaced free like me, etc. and you will eventually get them to replace the faulty panel.

I think it was the third time it actually caught on fire and the magnetron and numerous parts were replaced free of charge with the promise if it failed again it would be replaced with no problems. When it died again they did not replace it - they repaired it again.
When it died again they admitted they had it on record it was supposed to be replaced but refused to. They would pay for the magnetron but that was it. I would be responsible for the labor and any other parts. The repair service visit for the fire the repairman had just left a place not 20 miles from me for the same microwave catching on fire. I wanted to share my experience because I believe someone might truly get hurt by this product. I will not repair this again for the fear of burning my house down. This is the second Microwave that after owning it for a year or so we began to experience a unusual problem. The Microwave turns on by itself after closing the door, before any settings are touched. Sometimes the door must be opened and closed 5-6 times before it will stop. The off/cancel button in inoperable when this happens. The only thing that stops it is by opening the door. The heat does not come on, fortunately, because no settings have been touched. But, it can not be used at all until it stops doing this.
This problem having occurred to the previous Microwave tells me that the switch mechanism used for both Microwaves has come from the same place, (China?) and is faulty. There should be a recall. Everything is made so cheaply today, and it is most likely a switch mechanism that costs 20 cents less than it's competition. So therefore, it was used on thousands of products simply to save $, even though the quality is poor, making the appliance faulty.

Unfortunately I didn't learn my lesson and purchased a Samsung over the stove Microwave from Costco.ca 9 months ago and now it has what seems to be a common problem of not wanting to shut off when the timer is done. It's great that Costco has such a good return policy and I will be returning it and buying another brand. I will never buy another Samsung product again! My Maytag Nautilus washer and dryer are 14 years old with not one problem and a lot of the time used by 2 families. When buying appliances again I'll check to make sure that they're Made in the USA.

I got the dreaded SE error message and went online because there is no troubleshooting article in the booklet. Did the Fix from a YOUTUBE video... and also learned from YOUTUBE videos that Samsung was providing new keypads on these because it was such a known defect. So I called Samsung... and was told that indeed they are NOT doing that... that I needed to contact the local repair person. So I did... and he told me to call Samsung again and lie to them that I was worried my microwave was going to burn down my house... thus forcing them to provide the free part (and service to install). So, all that to say that I wish I had purchased some other brand of microwave... note taken.

I remodeled my kitchen 4 years ago and purchased all new Samsung appliances. They were magnificent looking! However, the microwave touch panel malfunctioned after just a few months and went completely black... no lights. Samsung repaired it due to a recall on the panel. Now four years later it is out again! I had to purchase a new microwave today... NOT SAMSUNG. The range already has one malfunctioning burner so now I'm down to 3 burners. The refrigerator's ice maker stopped working after 7 months.... cost $450 to replace. Samsung only guarantees the ice maker for 5-6 months. Only Samsung repair people can fix your appliances because no one else can get the necessary parts, so the repair charge is double that of other appliance repair businesses.
The dishwasher cleans horribly and leaves grit in EVERY glass/cup. The welded stainless steel walls of the dishwasher came apart and my husband had to repair them with rivets. I purchased model# SMH1816S a little over two years ago and it just died on me yesterday. Of course, Samsung was no help because the warranty has expired on it. I am very angry and dissatisfied with Samsung products because they have proven to be crap -- and have a comically short shelf life. This breakdown comes only two months on the heels of my Samsung range breaking down and having to be serviced. All of my products were purchased at the same time (microwave, fridge, range) -- now I can look forward to having costly repair bills into the unforeseeable future.
I'm dreading the inevitable breakdown of my refrigerator soon. As expensive as Samsung appliances are, I just expected for them to last a lot longer before needing servicing -- say maybe 5-10 years. My previous Kenmore products lasted over 10 years without needing repairs. I will definitely not be purchasing anymore Samsung products! And their customer service sucks -- they should honor their products for a lot longer than 1 year. Oh yeah... they offered me a Protection Plus plan for $288 -- I can buy a new microwave for that price!

OTR Samsung Microwave model SMH9207ST - I purchased first microwave in 2012 at Lowe's and within the first year the plastic latch on the door handle broke off and the door would not close. Fortunately I was able to replace it at the store with same model. So now after a little over 2 years the panel in bottom right side that has the buttons for light and vent started sticking. After spraying with WD40 they started working again. But last night that ended when all of the buttons just pushed completely in behind the panel. So now it looks bad and I can't turn the vent off or use the light buttons. Like many others, I spent more on this model ($450) because of its stylish looks and because I thought I was getting a quality product... not so!

We installed model # ME179KFETSR/AA in our remodeled kitchen in November of 2013. In February of 2014, 3 months later, the Microwave went bonkers (as noted in other complaints) and the control had to be replaced. It was under warranty, so there was no charge, just inconvenience. The repairman told me I should run the fan when cooking ANYTHING on my stove, even warming up canned vegetables. I took his advice and used the fan even though it is very loud.
Unfortunately, this did not prevent the need for ANOTHER service call for the same problem in April of 2014. The problem has reoccurred for the third time and the microwave is now out of warranty. Even though the micro is less than a year and a half old, Samsung is only willing to give me the part at no charge, which will probably only cost them $30.00. Wow, what exceptional service. They MUST know the micro has a design flaw. The repair has not yet been performed, so I'm not sure how much this is going to cost me, besides my loyalty to Samsung.

We purchased our Samsung Microwave (SMH1816S) for our kitchen remodel and had it installed in April 2014. The microwave "died" on 3/30/15, getting the dreaded error code of 5E. We called Samsung (800-726-7864) on 3/30/15. Having read these reviews, we were prepared for the worst, and that is exactly what we got. DENIAL, DENIAL, DENIAL. We were told our warranty no longer existed. Even worse, they told us our Model number and Serial number didn't even come up! They consistently told me they could give me the number of their service center, but that we would have to pay for the repairs. I argued for 45 minutes with ** explaining to her that we would in NO way pay for the repair of a defective product… something that Samsung is FULLY aware, yet continues to deny. She then said she would have the Tech. Dept. call me the next day.
No one got back with me so I called back on 4/2/15 and spoke with ** which got me nowhere, so demanded to speak with a Supervisor. I then spoke with ** of Executive Customer Relations. He, again, tried to deny that Samsung has a serious problem with their microwaves. I cited the over 300 complaints on Consumer Affairs. After 45 minutes of arguing, he finally relented and said they would send a repair tech out at no cost but that the only part they would cover would be the control panel as this is the part that seemed to be the cause of our complaint based upon our error code.
Today, 4/10/15, the repairman came out and replaced the control panel. And, not surprisingly, the microwave is still dead! He claimed it must be the "main board" that needs replacing as the new control panel did not solve the problem. As he only brought a new control panel, he said he would send in our repair results and that someone would contact me. I asked him what a new "main board" would run and he said he had no idea what the cost of parts ran as only the Joplin, MO. office would know.
At this point, I am totally disgusted with Samsung. Seems to me that if it is not the control panel, then it is something else. Bottom line is these microwaves are crap and what's more frustrating is that Samsung is fully aware of it, yet will not take appropriate action… such as recall them. All I know is that when I am contacted, I am ready to fight once again for this worthless item to be fixed BY Samsung at no cost to us. We have not even used this microwave for 1 year and for it to die on us, is absurd!
Would love to hear about anyone else's similar experience with failure of the "main board". I can only reiterate what everyone else seems to feel… why has a Class Action Lawsuit not been put in action? I know this is a long standing complaint and is extremely common. Is there not "an attorney in the house" who has experienced this problem with Samsung Microwaves? I will be the first to sign the petition if the challenge is created. I will write more about our travails once Samsung calls me. And if they fail to do so, I will be calling them! NO ONE SHOULD PUT UP WITH SAMSUNG'S DENIAL FOR REPAIR! If you don't get what you want, fight for what is right! It has worked for me thus far. They simply cannot keep denying these claims.
Updated on May 5, 2015: This is a continuation of a previous review published 4/10/15. It is vital that every Samsung consumer read this tip. We went through the same agony as everyone in dealing with Samsung and their refusal to acknowledge or assist in the repair of these defective microwaves. We spent hours on the phone with several Samsung employees.. most in the management dept. Each phone call got us the "usual response"... we can provide you with the number of a service repair company but the cost is up to you. Just so you understand, I do not put up with lies nor do I put up with injustices. I do not let them go. It was not until after I finally demanded to speak with someone in their LEGAL DEPARTMENT that I got any satisfactory response. I was told that the only thing they could give me was the email address for their legal dept.
So, I wrote the Legal Dept.. ** on 4/16/15. I expressed my disgust with Samsung and "urged" them to read the reviews on ConsumerAffairs.com. I pointed out to them that they were completely unethical in their handling of the hundreds (actually probably thousands if you take into account those who just did not write a review on ConsumerAffairs) of complaints as to the dreaded defective microwaves. I warned them that a Class Action Lawsuit seemed to be encouraged by most. On 4/17/15, I received an email from the Legal Dept. (I will not give the name as it seems the names are bleeped out). The email approved the cost of repair for our microwave. We, too, had the common 5E/SE error code. The technician came out on 4/21/15 to make the repair. Turns out we had to have the motherboard replaced (having already replaced the control panel) before the oven worked properly.
We do not feel the headaches are over. It seems as if many of these issues arise again after a few months of use. We will not be surprised when/if this happens again. Bottom line, these microwaves need to be recalled or a Class Action Lawsuit should prevail. Samsung is only putting a temporary fix on these defects. Since the Legal Dept. acted as if my complaint was "new to them", I can only encourage everyone to write the Legal Dept. of Samsung to voice their complaint and to get appropriate action. Hopefully this helps all of you who are getting nowhere with Samsung.

Called Samsung and they said we're out of warranty! When they looked further into our account, they said "they sometimes have computer issues" and they no longer showed our original bill-of-sale information in their system, and said we'd have to send in a copy of the original to them. So I bought a whole new appliance package when we had our house built and I bought all Samsung. We took possession of the house March 7, 2014 and a few days over the one year mark when I opened the microwave door it lost power. I tried resetting the breaker, and unplugging and plugging the microwave back in. Finally when I was about to give up I opened and close microwave door a couple of times and the power came back on. I tried contacting my rep who I purchased my appliances through but he didn't get back to me for a couple of weeks because he was out of town. When he got back I was told to contact Samsung directly. When I contacted them they said because I was over the one year mark my warranty was out of date and there was nothing they could do.
When I talked to the repair company they said it sounded like a faulty door switch and it happens with Samsung quite often, so now I have to pay $100 out of pocket to pay for them to adjust the switch/wire in the door. It's more than a little frustrating that Samsung can get away with selling these microwaves with faulty door switches and won't stand behind their products.

My microwave that I purchased in April 2011 has been giving me issues months after I purchased. The panel has been replaced about 4 or 5 times and continued to have issues like beeping for no reason, lights on and off without being touched and going out for weeks and returning back to life after weeks of not working. I have made plenty of phone calls about 40 between Samsung and their technicians with little luck. At times they closed my file just because and i would have to start the process all over again. Since my microwave has completely stopped working in August 2014 they said they would fix and came out 3 times to diagnose the same issue but never fixed it. I was told by tech he was going to order parts and be back to fix, and never did. It was a lie. They called me 3 other times after that because they wanted to diagnose it again. That makes no sense, but they claim that is the process.
I complained with BBB, and Samsung now wants the original purchase receipt that I had already showed the technician in 2012. Since I don't have it they want to partially reimburse me for owning it all this time. Who's fault is that? Not mine. If Samsung would have accepted my product was defective from the beginning I would not have owned it for so long. How can the people put an end to this defective product. They should get sued or make them recall their product. I am tired of Samsung and they should be held accountable for selling faulty products.

It absolutely amazes me that SAMSUNG thinks it is okay for a 4 year old microwave to come on anytime the door is opened. Anyone else see a problem that this is dangerous to our children whom did not realize it was not working properly, so they stuck their hand in the microwave to lay the food on the turntable - all the while the microwave was operating - WITH THE DOOR OPEN??? I have a ticket number, a chat ID number and 2 phone calls from ** from their escalation team. Each of these encounters with their support team showed no concerns nor did they think they were responsible or liable for anything, they will NOT fix my microwave.
So, for now I am using my 15 year old Sharp microwave in my garage. I replaced the keypad after 2 years because if you boiled anything on the right side of your stove the vent is not adequate enough nor is the keypad waterproofed so the condensation gets in and shorts it out. The repairman informed me Samsung had since figured this out on the next year's model and corrected it, but did they repair my keypad? NO! I suppose I should've known better than to think they would care that my microwave comes on as soon as anyone opens the door, they were not concerned in the least! Guess my new 60 inch TV will be a Panasonic, that definitely changed my mind.

We purchased a new home in 2009 and purchased stainless steel Samsung appliances for our new kitchen. French door refrigerator; over the stove microwave and range to the tune of over $6,000. In 2010 the refrigerator was leaking water under one of the trays. It was still under warranty so they sent a repairman who attempted to fix it. Said he couldn't but he tried. Also said that these refrigerators all have this problem. It is something with the thermostat, etc. We consistently had this problem, we had to remove the draw, chip away the ice and then use a hair dryer to thaw out the back wall of the refrigerator where the water line was located IN THE REFRIGERATOR. We had repairmen (several different ones came out for about 6 more times) all to no avail. They installed new parts, etc. Great inconvenience to say the least. Samsung finally refunded the purchase price of my refrigerator.
The range was no better. In 2011, after the extended warranty we purchased expired, the broiler coil burnt out (according to the repairman) and had to be replaced. I asked him if there was anything he could do because I couldn't afford another repair. He said he could solder it but it was a temporary fix. He was right. About 10 months later the stove wouldn't work. Had to have the broiler coil replaced. Range is now working.
Microwave started doing strange things in early 2013. It would go on by itself and I was afraid it would cause a fire. I called and the repairman, he came out and said it was only the fan that was going while the door was closed and he couldn't fix it because he felt it was a defect in the product. He didn't want to incur a huge bill for me when he didn't know what was wrong. He contacted Samsung and they wouldn't talk to him because he wasn't on their list of repairmen. The microwave operated fine, as for cooking, etc. with the fan always on when it was opened. In 2015 the whole thing just died. No error message, nothing. It just ceased working.
I will never, ever purchase anything, other than a TV, from Samsung. They should stick with what they do best, TV sets. I now have to purchase a new microwave which has to be installed because it is an above range built in. The one we purchased was a high end and cost over $600. Didn't think it would only last 6 years. I had my other microwave for over 13 years and it worked fine. Waiting for the other shoe to drop on the range.

Our over the range stainless steel MWO was installed professionally on 12/28/12. On March 2, 2015 the little plastic piece inside the stainless steel handle (now there's construction for you) to which the handle is attached to the door cracked and fell out. The small 50 cent piece cannot be purchased of course, a full handle assembly to the tune of $56 is required for this fix. No sooner does the handle arrive in the mail, that the hook-clasp spring inside the door stops functioning and now the door won't even stay shut. This model has the electronics in the door, so replacement is about half the cost of the microwave.
A phone call to Samsung this morning (3/18/2015) yielded nothing but frustration. I feel like I am a pretty good Samsung customer with the Samsung Range, Samsung Refrigerator, Samsung 10" tablet, 2 Samsung smart phones and 2 Samsung Smart TVs (40 & 50") and 2 Samsung DVD Players. I would think that level of customer would command a certain amount of loyalty from the company. After climbing up to the 1st level of supervisor, my frustration wouldn't allow me chase it further, since they both did the same search for recalls or problems and essentially used the same word tracks.
So now I walk the walk of how much to spend on repairs: The MWO is available at Lowe's for $449. Installation/delivery is $125. Repairs: $56 for the new handle; $75 Repairman Trip; a new door costs $200. Refrigerator: The door shelf has had to be replaced to the tune of $80. Samsung looks pretty but seems to lack good construction and durability. I never had any issues with any of my GE appliances; nor those that we sold when I was in remodel construction. Guess I'll go back to GE.

To date the dishwasher never heated the water - my dishes are always dirty and I have to hand wash most right after I take them out. The only heat is when I push the sanitize button; otherwise the water is cold (yes, I checked to see if there is a line from the hot water side of my system). For the refrigerator, the water filter required replacement 2 months after I purchased it and the ice button gets stuck and continues to dispense ice, even after I remove the glass.
THE MICROWAVE IS MY LATEST CASUALTY. Last night, it went to an E5 error code, basically indicating that steam from the stove had destroyed the membrane keypad. THEN WHY IS IT MADE TO BE INSTALLED OVER A STOVE? I would not buy Samsung again unless it was the only appliance in the world. I got no support from Lowe’s, since they were "out of warranty." Now I will go and buy new appliances and they will be basic, simple ones. My Kenmore stuff lasted over 10 years. Here are some CAUSES: I have 4 TVs, in my home I bought, all Samsung products. First time my wife TV went bad, you can hear the audio from the TV but no picture. I called Samsung customer service to explain my situation. On several occasions, I got hung up on. I tried and kept fighting till I finally got someone to talk to about the problem. My sorryful appeal was heard and the problem was resolved. Couple of month later again, I'm having the same problem with another TV. Called Samsung, again, it was another fight. Finally, I was told it was a software issue and I needed to buy flash drive and download the new version. I insisted not to spend money over some so-called software so they downloaded the new version and mail it out to me. I then uploaded it to the TV but did not solve the problem either. To date, I still have the TV and planning to trash it.
I also have a 10.1 Samsung galaxy 4, that is giving me problems. I took it back to Best Buy, and they kept it for two weeks fixing it. To date, I still have the tablet with the same problem. Now, it's my microwave. WHAT IS WRONG WITH SAMSUNG'S MODERN DAYS PRODUCT? They will go OFF on you right after their warranties. I'm frustrated big time over Samsung modern day products.

I asked to speak to superiors and went through four of them and they all told me there was nothing they could do. Sooo I threw away the receipt, the owners manual and the mounting screws. He took down the microwave and I told him to take the stupid thing to the dump. Luckily he hadn't done it yet because a couple days later I received an email from Samsung saying that they were going to pay for a one time parts and labor fix.
A company called me and set up date and time to come out. The tech came out and noticed that my microwave had scratches in the bottom and said it was a fire hazard and he didn't know if they would fix or not. I have heard online about the glass plate wobbling so maybe that is how it got scratched. They called back and said they ordered a new door and I would have to pay for the coating paint to cover the scratches and also the mounting screws. Tech came out and the door had the wrong connections and wouldn't work. Had to reorder. Came out today, replaced the door in a couple minutes and told me he was through...everything was working...clock, light, etc.
As he walked out the door I opened the door and closed it and it DIED! I called him back in and he made a phone call and said he would have to reorder another door! Going on almost three months so far and still no working microwave. Luckily a friend had an OLD $50 microwave that she let me use and it has worked wonderfully! I need to know how to join class action lawsuit. I just want a different microwave! FRUSTRATED!

After paying $45.95 for a replacement that I was told would be metal, was the same cheap plastic. Then trying to attach the new handle, you have to pry off the molding to get to the screws.

I am very surprised that Samsung has not had to recall their microwave ovens. All of a sudden the panel shows a code SE or E5 error code. The micro does just not go dead. It starts doing strange things..... constant beeping.... coming on by itself..... blinking lights. These are not old micros. Mine is not even three years old. I called Samsung. They were less than helpful and suggested we call a service center. They ignore the problem and will not even admit that there is a problem. I am done with Samsung Microwaves. Samsung SMH2117S microwave - Samsung refused after various escalations to repair the "SE-" error code that made the OTR microwave go crazy. The fan initially kept turning itself on and off constantly, then would show the error code and die. Unplugging it and plugging it back in would briefly fix the issue, but then it just croaked for good. Just a few months out of warranty (of course), and now, for purely the principle, would join a CA lawsuit against Samsung despite the unlikely odds of that happening. Like most others here, we are adding Samsung (and Sony) to the list of god-awful businesses from which we will NEVER again purchase.

Our Samsung SMH9187ST starting having the same error code as many others have experienced. My wife discovered that pushing up on the keyboard panel and pressing Clear allowed her to clear the code and resume normal use, however, this was a very temporary fix. I removed the panel as someone recommended, and cleaned all of the connections...same problem. Then I read the post about using electrical tape to cover the ribbon cable. That worked for 2-3 days. On my last attempt, I added more tape around the silver section of the ribbon cable, and added some tape to the metal frame that the ribbon cable rests against. So far, it is working. I believe this should have been a recall. Now that I'm in the market for a 78" 4k Curved TV, I'm shopping all of the brands except Samsung. Their products are nice when they work, but it sounds like Samsung doesn't stand behind them when they don't work. I'm thinking LG or Sony for my next purchase.

Then after 8 visits from repair company under warranty repair, they are saying they need to replace the panel again! My kitchen was in desperate need of a makeover so I decided to purchase all new products from Sears and selected Samsung. I so wish that I would have checked with Consumer Affairs first before purchasing (3) Samsung products in 2013 - all of which have had issues. I purchased a double door black refrigerator, a black microwave as well as a black gas range. My refrigerator from day one has had issues with the ice maker not making ice and the refrigerator temperature not working properly.
The worst product of all was the microwave oven that caught fire while I granddaughter was cooking a hotdog on a paper plate. The plate caught on fire. There were sparks and flames literally shooting from the microwave. I didn't purchase the extended warranty on the microwave because my experience with good microwaves is that they simply stop working after about 6-7 years. They don't catch on fire! I paid $329 for the microwave and Samsung wanted to charge me $325 for the repairs and continue to give me the run around. The matter is still not resolved. So if you are reading this review... save yourself the trouble. Please do not purchase any Samsung product!

I purchased a 3 appliance package including a OTR (over the range) microwave from Paul's TV with Samsung being the manufacturer. First the microwave has a "wobbly" glass tray, it wobbles. That's my problem because that's the way they are made. Then the microwave would just "shut off" if it was used more than about 7 minutes. Say, back to back, frozen dinners or heating up 25 minute casseroles. Called Paul's, had to talk to Samsung. Repairman comes out, orders a new circuit board. Comes back 2 weeks later and replaces board. In the middle of a big Christmas Party, microwave "shuts off" again. Then after 45 minutes, it turns itself back on. When I say "shut off", all electric, including clock is off. I call again. Was told it had to be "uninstalled" to be looked at. So I pay someone to take it out. Repairman said I didn't have to do that. Then he called after and said yes, he ordered another part, so it had to be out to be fixed. That was Dec 29th.
I have big New Year's party, and have to heat food in cooking pans, but now I don't have a VENT, since it was in the microwave. Today I called Samsung and was transferred to "Customer Relations" because it's January 16th, and the repairman has not shown up twice, yet Samsung keeps calling me to verify I've called him? I want my money back so I can get something else. Oh, that's too bad. Can't do that. Samsung pays $85 per repair call, he's been here 3 times, plus parts, so far for a $230 microwave. Their policy is to continue to repair until the repairman says it can't be fixed. SWEET job this repairman has. Lucrative contract. I NEVER want to buy another SAMSUNG product again, NEVER.
I've done FOUR kitchen remodels, with all new appliances and never had an issue like this, nor worked with such a stupid company. GE replaced my French Door the 2nd time out because of faulty production. No issue Kitchenaid. No issue Bosch. No issue Fisher & Paykel. No extra warranty. Now I have to wait 2 days so Samsung can reschedule with the repairman.

One of the worst appliances I ever bought. Samsung over the range w/ hood model SMH1816S. First microwave in 30 years I ever had to have repaired. And customer support on an issue with it was horrendous, and then non-existent. I recommend anyone considering this unit to finish off their kitchen matched set of other Samsung products forgo aesthetics and get something else. First, as others have stated on other review sites, the control panel is awful. It is hard to read and the buttons are set in such a way (presumable to keep someone from pushing a button unintended with cleaning the panel) that you have to press very hard in exactly the right spot. No feel and go with this unit. The food, in spite of the revolving turntable, does not heat evenly. The stainless steel, for some odd reason, is difficult to clean (exterior).
We have had other stainless steel appliances from other companies that cleaned easily. Then, a short time after warranty expired, the unit failed to work. It turns out some of the factory work was not done well on the circuit board and a loose connection caused a short and burned out the primary "microwave" making unit. The dealer told us it was out of warranty, (barely) so we had it repaired, then one of their repair people said it was a defect, not a warranty issue and I should contact Samsung. Samsung used every excuse in the book, and finally said something along the lines of "policy does not allow us to ever pay out of pocket expense, regardless of the cause or situation". End of story, end of Samsung. Later, a salesperson told me they have had numerous complaints about the unit. Samsung TVs are great. We thought the refrig, range, dishwasher, microwave would be good, too. Not happy with the other units, but at least they work. But I will never own another Samsung appliances!

We got another Samsung because our experiences with 4 Samsung televisions, refrigerator and washing machine had all been good. Bad decision. I'll be replacing this one with a Whirlpool. The repairman wanted over $200 to order and come back out and replace to fix the SE error code and lighting and fan issue.
I declined the repair because I wasn't sinking another $200 in a $400 Microwave and immediately called Samsung and informed them that the keypad was NOT the part going bad from stove top grease on ALL microwaves, that it is also the circuit board. And the Supervisor said that Samsung would not cover that part because only the keypad is covered. Look folks, I worked at a name brand new car dealership as a technician and I will tell you.... ANY part that is causing the problem with the recall is covered so that the check engine light, etc is resolved and the customer goes away happy.
Samsung told me when I told them they were about to lose a customer over this that they are sorry to lose me but they won't fix the recall unless it's the EXACT part that lets say 10,000 microwaves have over 100 microwaves have being this electronic main board! Now this piece of expensive garbage started beeping last night and then finally displayed the dreaded "SE" on the display (which is part of the door). The door cannot be taken apart.
Bottom line is that I have experienced the same "SE" problem as the other reviewers and because my model # was not on "the list", they will not repair the unit free of charge. It's out of warranty! So, I can either waste more money paying for a service call and then on the part (which happens to be the entire door because that's where the "brains" of this model is located) or I can "lose" this piece of garbage once and for all! This model of microwave SHM9187 has a ribbon cable on the right hand side where the control assembly fits on the frame that picks up a signal from the frame that causes erroneous signals to be sent along one of the wires. It overloads the CPU and the result is a "SE" code and the machine shuts down. You need to put electrical tape over the entire surface of that ribbon cable that touches the frame in order to sufficiently insulate the cable. The repair is simple.
Undo the two screws on top of the machine above the door. Pop the vent assembly to the left about an inch. Wiggle it off. Open the microwave door. Next there is one screw on the control assembly (right side of machine) at the top edge. Take it out. Pop the assembly from the bottom and push up about a half inch. Lift top of assembly away and rotate out. The ribbon cable in on the right hand side. You should unplug the microwave. When you reverse assemble everything and plug in the microwave, you are back to normal operation. Do the clock set and be happy.

I just had to replace my dishwasher that I have only had for 3 years that was a Samsung and also my Samsung refrigerator that is only 5 years old is also having problems. I have never experienced a company that does not stand by their products or their customers. I think everyone should just boycott this crappy company and their crappy products.

After being out all day, I came home to find it turning the oven the stove light from hi to low to off by itself. I am very disappointed in this product. I had an earlier, smaller countertop, one that lasted over 10 years! I will not invest in another Samsung kitchen product.

I have had my Samsung 9187 for about 4 years and yesterday the thing just kept beeping and then finally displayed the dreaded SE code. After some quick googling, I found a site which offered a solution. I just finished it up and the microwave works again like new. So here it is: "Over time, condensation will make two pieces of the ribbon cable stuck together, causing short circuit. The solution is to separate the pieces and put a piece of paper in between. First you need to access the control panel by unscrewing the top grill of the microwave. After removing the top grill, you will see a screw holding the control panel to the oven. Just unscrew that one and remove the control panel. You will then see the ribbon cable. Inspect whether it is folded and the two sides are stuck. If yes, just separate them and put a piece of paper in-between." It's really that simple, put the paper between the two sides of the ribbon found inside the control panel. Hope this helps.

My wife and I live in Everett, Pa. We had purchased two Samsung products from Lowe's, a microwave model SMH 9187 ST and a top of the line Stainless French door fridge, in Altoona, Pa. After a short period the ice maker light would not reset on the fridge for which we paid for an extended warranty. After calling Lowe’s we were told we live outside the 50 mile radius for service. After calling Samsung we’re told there was no one in the area to service the unit. The only option was to replace the fridge with a new one to solve the minor problem. DUH! After days I finally got it to reset. Another problem was we had water leaking from the ice maker unit. Again no service was available. It seems I had replaced the filter unit made by Samsung made in Korea and it was defective. I found this out after driving 100 miles round trip to try another unit. If I did not have some technical skills for repair I would have been out of luck.
Our microwave failed showing the code SE. Again I could not get service and was told by Samsung it was still in warranty. After many calls they referred the problem to a BGH Electronics in Cumberland Maryland. After 9 days waiting for a call I found out the repair was canceled. I suspect they did not want to drive the 2 hours round trip. I again got back with Samsung and now was told the unit was NOT in warranty and I was on my own to get it repaired. Fortunately I found that this unit has a design flaw where steam from the stove will corrode the contacts in the control panel. A simple video on YouTube shows how to clean the contacts and after that the unit works fine. I am not happy with Lowe’s in Altoona, Pa selling Samsung products to folks outside the 50 mile area that cannot get service. I will buy appliances from local stores that can provide service if needed and it will not be a Samsung product.

About 6 months after purchasing and installing our OTR Samsung microwave, the popcorn setting began to burn up the bags of popcorn so we quit using that setting. Then roughly 8 months later (and after the warranty ran out) our microwave started to turn itself off and give an "SE" error message. After doing this for three or four times, the front panel just went out and never came back on regardless of our attempts to revive it.
I went online and began to research the problem and it is very obvious that this is an inherent problem with Samsung OTR microwaves despite their previous top rating. And most of the reports state that the replacement costs are prohibitive and the replacement parts also malfunction. Now we are stuck with a $350.00 piece of junk and it is not even 1 1/2 years since the purchase!
Planned obsolescence? I bought this microwave because it was highly rated and because it matched my other Samsung kitchen appliances. Oh well, I can't get my money back and it doesn't make any sense to repair it - so it goes to the landfill. Ridiculous! I won't buy another one, but I do wish that everyone knew about the issues with these microwaves prior to even considering this brand of microwave oven, especially because this is an ongoing problem and Samsung is well aware of it.

SMH1816B - This oven was my Christmas gift purchased December 2012 from Best Buy. Our mistake was buying it too soon before kitchen was ready for installation. So now it's "out of warranty". Because of the semi-remodeling, it didn't get installed until March 2014. Worked great for 4 months. My husband even went beyond the call to make sure the extra venting to the outside was installed. The auto turn on for that vent never worked so I just manually turned it on as needed. Then 3 days ago, our daughter opened the door to reheat some nachos and the screen was dead. Troubleshooted everything: the outlet, the dedicated power line in the fuse box, etc.
24 hours later, the formerly dead screen mysteriously lit back up and instructed us to set the clock! So we did. It worked for a day. Then my husband opened the door to reheat a cup of coffee and closed the door and discovered BLACK SCREEN again! We went through all the troubleshooting again, unplug, re-plug, etc. to no avail. I called then filled out the form on Samsung's help site and was instructed to call 1800 SAMSUNG, which I did. They said it was "out of warranty" and if I wanted to get it fixed, I would have to pay.
I called a local certified Samsung repair service and they said it could be "loose wires" that get moved when opening and closing the door and it would cost $120.00 to re-seat the wires. This is totally unacceptable that an appliance would be allowed to be manufactured so poorly that the wires could unseat themselves just by opening and closing the door, an action that is REQUIRED in order to use it! The model needs a recall asap!

Today I contacted Samsung support via live chat, describing the common "SE" error, to inquire about service for my SMH9207 microwave purchased in Dec. 2010. Many postings, including several on consumeraffairs.com indicate Samsung is aware of this common issue with their microwaves and in some cases has repaired out of warranty microwaves. The representative I chatted with, George **, indicated "Certain models had a known issue which we have addressed. These are the only ones that are being covered outside of the warranty term." I was give the web form to fill out a service request. It's obvious Samsung makes good phones, not microwaves, and they don't always stand behind a product. I was very disappointed as I had purchased many Samsung products over the years (phones, TVs, etc.) finding them reliable but, I never had to put the company to the test until $335 microwave stopped working.
At this point, I will never buy a Samsung product again because I know if their is a fluke, or defect in their usually decent products, the company will not stand behind the product, and will cite the warranty which is in line with industry and isn't good (1 yr.). I am so upset, I'm spending for a microwave of another brand rather than buying the Samsung control board and servicing. Do not buy a Samsung appliance if you want reliability and company that stands behind the product.

David in Ohio, I had the same exact situation occur with my microwave. It was made in Feb of 2010. But I did not take possession of it until Sept of 2010. I was storing a freshly made chocolate cake in the microwave when I came home from work to smell a horrible odor of something burnt in my home. I freaked out and began searching for the cause. It wasn't until later that I noticed the code for a short on my microwave. I unplugged it and cleaned the horrible mess out of it. Then I re-plugged it in and reset the clock and tried to warm up a cup of water. Everything worked fine. So I thought, "ok, that was weird, how did it turn on by itself?" Then as I was going about other business, I heard the microwave turn on.... When I got to it the message screen said it was cooking in Baked Potato mode. Now that was crazy!
So I have been without use of my microwave for a few days. I began looking online for any recalls. I did find a similar issue recalled back in early part of the 2000 decade. But nothing recently. Then I saw David's post. My situation almost EXACTLY!!!! I did also post a complaint on Samsung Support's Facebook page. They replied with a link for me to go to and complete with info for them to get back in contact with me. We will see. I hope this company will stand up and make good on some type of faulty problem with their product. I would hate to have to buy another brand. "The control panel will be replaced free of charge as part of the warranty. In the event that the control box requires replacement, the issue can't be recreated during the service visit or the issue is determined to be anything other than the SE error code, it will be an out-of-warranty repair and you will be responsible for any costs. Do you consent to these terms?"
I replied, "I purchased this in 2010 so I am sure it is out the warranty time frame. I have been looking this issue up on the internet and there are many complaints about this issue and Samsung has been willing to make this repairs even if it is out the warranty." Samsung SMH9187 Microwave with SE error - Pro tip: Take a picture of the SE error displayed on your microwave if you plan to try to get Samsung to repair it. About two weeks ago, our microwave displayed the SE error code and began to beep every 15 minutes or so. I looked online for suggestions, and one of the first was to unplug the microwave and see if it resets. That made sense to me; most of us have encountered the occasional electronic gremlin. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a picture of the SE error first. I'll explain later why that matters.
Unplugging the microwave for a few minutes and plugging it in again, got rid of the SE error. Unfortunately, the microwave would then turn on by itself and attempt to cook an imaginary baked potato. It was like a ghost was pushing the baked potato button. I assume there is such a button, the display would read BAKED POTATO and the microwave would run. Not a good situation. We unplugged the microwave. I then researched further, and found that this is not an uncommon problem and a number of people were successfully getting this model of microwave with the SE error repaired free of charge.
I called Samsung and related my story. I was given options for repair, each of which would cost me more money than I wanted to spend. When I countered that I had read Samsung was fixing the SE error, I was told that was true BUT I NO LONGER HAD THE SE ERROR. The customer service rep said I now had a different problem, the imaginary baked potato cooking problem. Frustrating. She then said perhaps I could plug my microwave in again and the SE error would return - worth a try. She gave me an issue ticket number for future use. I plugged the microwave in, and after stopping and clearing some baked potato cooking sessions, and a few hours of silence, the SE code reappeared. Success, in a manner of speaking, I took several pictures of the display showing the SE code.
I called Samsung again. I gave them my ticket number, explained that I again had the SE code, and asked that they repair my microwave. They said okay immediately, but emphasized my consent that if the issue was something other than the SE error, it would cost me. I said fine, and explained I had pictures of the SE error to show the repair tech even if the microwave did not display the SE error when he arrived - which was the case. The tech came this morning and repaired the microwave this morning. Yes, I had to go through some hassle, but Samsung repaired my nearly four year old microwave at their expense. That's pretty nice. (They repaired a more than four year old TV for me too, but that's another story.)

After a huge amount of bureaucracy, I finally got Samsung to send someone out to look at it. The repairman was very familiar with the problem as he had already replaced MANY transformers in these microwaves previously. A quick look on the internet and it became apparent to me that I was the proud owner of a lemon. Nevertheless, the repair agency replaced the transformer in my microwave. Today, the microwave went dead again. I called Samsung and told them that. Obviously, their 'fix' isn't fixing the units and that I would appreciate a replacement or a refund. The lady told me that they can't do that. Instead, they can only pay to have the unit fixed.
Then, she looked at my purchase date and discovered that I was/am ONE week out of warranty. Likewise, she informed me that even though the unit was just repaired for the same problem a few months ago, they have no responsibility to make sure that the repair lasts. Honestly, I'm temped to take Samsung to Small Claims Court. It's doubtful that they will send an attorney to represent them, but, even if they do, I'll present a ton of data supporting the fact that their microwaves are defective and that I am not the first one with such a problem. We can only hope that people look at this website before they invest in any Samsung appliance or product.

I then contacted Lowe's who said that they have had similar complaints with this microwave and suggested that I call 1-800-SAMSUNG. I then called Samsung and was transferred to the ECR (Executive Consumer Relations) department where I then gave them my model and serial numbers. They stated that this was a known issue and that they would send a repairman out to replace the control panel free of charge. They also said to take a picture of the microwave showing the SE error just in case the microwave miraculously started working properly prior the repairman's arrival. (They Highly recommend that I do this).
The Samsung customer service experience was quick, pleasant and professional and there was a very short wait time on the phone (I called Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM). Based on my experience so far, I would purchase Samsung again. Electrolux is a different experience however. I still have an Electrolux double oven and dishwasher and I used to have their microwave. The microwave stopped working 2 months after I purchased it and I exchanged it for a new one. The new microwave only heated food on the outside while the middle was still cold. I then returned it and purchased the Samsung microwave I'm referencing in this review. The Electrolux double oven has a control panel issue and they have replaced my panel 4 times. Luckily, I purchased the extended service contract through Electrolux.
The local appliance repair company that used to repair my double oven no longer does repairs for Electrolux. They said that they have had too many issues with Electrolux customer service and that they now refuse to work for them. My Electrolux dishwasher just crapped out 4 months ago after only 3 years. They sent a new local appliance repair company out to repair it under warranty, but then refused to pay for their labor. I have since discovered that Electrolux appliances are actually Frigidaire appliances with an expensive looking exterior (and very expensive price tag). But still made with the same junk Frigidaire insides. The Electrolux/Frigidaire customer support center is based in Atlanta and their phone support is horrible. Just awfully horrible.
The wait time is outrageous and when you do get a support person, it seems they hire customer reps that failed out of high school and are unable to get a job at Taco Bell mopping floors. They are just horrible. One time when I called, the rep put me said that she was going to put me on hold, but then failed to hit the hold button. She then started talking to someone next to her about some guy she had met at the club over the weekend. When they were done with their conversation, she then hit the hold button which then placed me on hold forever. I then had to hangup, call back and then wait forever again for someone to pick up the phone. I will never buy anything Electrolux again. And, if I ever meet Kelly Ripa, I will tell her that she should be ashamed for being Electrolux's spokesperson. I will never again buy anything that Kelly Ripa endorses.

I also noticed that some people were calling Samsung and getting it repaired; however, when I called, I was told that my particular model was not covered by the "epidemic warranty". Since other people with the same model got theirs repaired, it appears that the story from Samsung is different from different representatives!!! Samsung Executive customer service gave me the same lip service everyone else got. They had their speech down pat. "Sorry, nothing we can do, out of warranty." It's out of warranty as it has been getting fixed all this time. What a joke. Can't believe Samsung has gotten away with this without a recall. Seems everyone that purchased one of their microwaves had trouble within the first year! I will turn everyone I know on to this site so they can see all the dissatisfied customers! I went to go investigate it and found the -SE- error. From what I gathered online from different sites, it is a control board issue. It has been a problem since 2009. Here we are in 2014 and they have not fixed the problem with the control boards. Since they do not make the microwave anymore, there is no way to replace the control board. I will only buy Samsung phones. The rest of their products will fall on my deaf ears.

I bought fridge, dishwasher, microwave, range, and a washer/dryer for a new house, did my research and thought I was buying the best available. First, within 1 month, the dishwasher went. I made more calls to Samsung than loads of dishes in the unit. The problems ranged from simply not turning on to the motor completely seizing. Apparently there are plastic pieces that break off the wheels and racks and end up lodged in the motor, therefore seizing the motor.
This brand new dishwasher has been completely rebuilt. I had the repairman out to house on that unit >6 times. Second, the microwave keypad went within the first six-months, repaired with no problem, but now it’s broken again, and it's the same issue. An over the range microwave that cannot handle the steam that rises from the stove top and shorts out the keyboard. Great design flaw and one would think they would fix it, replace the unit, recall it - nope. It's out of warranty and, they won't fix it and more importantly, the part is no longer available (being made - read lemon) so I cannot even fix it myself.
Third, the gas dryer ignition went - fix it myself. Finally, the fourth the fridge, (sigh)... I absolutely loved this fridge, loved, past tense. Two years after purchasing, the Main control panel and 2 sensors went on the unit. TWO YEARS. So I called Samsung, and to be honest, the customer service is less than stellar. I was told that it was no longer under warranty, and they would not fix or even consider fixing it due to its age. I was quite polite and asked if I could speak with managers, blah, blah, blah. I eventually made my way up to "executive" customer service, who knew, and it was there that I was told that if even if they wanted to, they could not fix my unit because Samsung stopped making the MCP. So there were no parts to fix it.
I was so adamant about Samsung making good on this fridge. I went without a fridge for 6 weeks while I dealt with them. I tried to negotiate a refund, or some sort of credit, a replacement unit, to no avail. I believe that they should have offered me a replacement unit due to the fact that the unit could not be repaired. I repeat, the fridge was 2 YEARS old. For goodness sakes, my grandmother had her fridge for 30 years. The way I see it, they stopped making the MCP because of the on-going problems with the unit. Basically it was another lemon. So yeah, so sorry for your luck but thanks for your 2 grand, go buy another fridge... and that's what I did. I will never, NEVER recommend or buy another Samsung product.

We bought our Samsung microwave model SMH8165W on Feb 23, 2011. I know this b/c I actually registered online w/ Samsung to get the "extended" 1 year + 3 month warranty. They have engineered their microwave to be built to last barely above a year. Let me say, it is beautifully designed and at an inexpensive price point. It was the best deal at the time. It had features that we NEVER used - like, any of the snack features. My husband still loves it.... BUT... within a year, one of the LED legs blew out in the first number. We ignored that. It wasn't big enough to bother, you could still read the number. I'd already misplaced any paperwork.
Now, on Feb 18, 2014 - almost 3 years to the day that we purchased our Samsung we have another interesting error. Our under microwave light that goes from On, to Night light, to Off.. it always stays ON. One of the lights blew out so we changed it thinking that maybe that was the problem. Nope, both bulbs now burn brightly. We are out of warranty. We won't be buying Samsung again. We actually need a light on at night to cook, being in a dark kitchen. So in the meantime I'm buying a set of 3 stick on LED lights for $6 on Amazon. One LED light will last 1000 hours. Let's see if it outlasts the Samsung.

I am really scared with the previous reviews. I bought from Sears a Samsung microwave model SMH187S. Then we got the SE message and the constant sequences of 5 annoying beeps. I took the power off even for days hoping the computer will reset... negative. I went to internet where some people claimed cleaning the terminals will do it… negative. This is absurd, a microwave less than 3 years. I have to bring back from my garage a Whirlpool microwave, a very basic and inexpensive model that I have used for more than 10 years and it works well.
I am upset with myself letting the Sears salesman convince me that Samsung was the best choice. Where is the government? Where is the customer protection of other times? Where is the respect? It should be an official recall. I will start talking to Samsung and if they ignore me, I will start a movement for a class action against Samsung. The biggest class actions always have started with one person. Arrogant companies that believed were invincible like Blockbuster, Pan Am, Motorola, AOL, Sears went down or are just going out of business. Samsung… beware.

I purchased Samsung Microwave SMH9207ST which comes with a 1 year warranty. The microwave was manufactured in February 2011, very moderately used, and owned for approximately 2.5 years. At 15 months, an internal piece of the handle broke, not allowing the door to close. I contacted Samsung who referred me to a repairman. For a repairman to assess the problem, order the parts needed, and install would have cost over $125 plus having to take time off of work without pay. I was able to quickly assess the problem, order 2 plastic interior door pieces (one extra) for $12 with shipping and reassemble the microwave in about 3 minutes.
After 2.5 years the microwave completely stopped while cooking. I am very extremely disappointed in the quality of this product. I also own a Samsung Jr, manufactured in 1999, which has been used far more, even brought tent-camping and trips, and it is still working fine. I am now very reluctant to purchase a Samsung product. I plan to take this microwave apart to attempt to diagnosis the problem myself. In the meantime, I will continue to use the Samsung Jr until I have the resources to purchase a new microwave.

Bought this from SEARS just before Christmas around December 22 of 2010 to match the Samsung Stove that I bought for the new home that we had just moved into. Looked great and I was very pleased until it stopped working on Jan. 4th of 2012 (approximately). Throwing the error code "SE" and unplugging it and re-plugging it back in would allow it to work for maybe 5 minutes. I was so upset when I called Sears and they wouldn't even entertain the idea of coming out to service it unless I wanted to pay for the service call and whatever the problem was to fix.
I realize that there is only a 1-year warranty on the microwave, but come on! It stopped working 2 weeks past the 1-year warranty end. Whatever happened to standing by what you sell? It's a shame that most of these products are made overseas and so cheaply and then sold for way more than they are worth. It's obvious to me that Samsung products are pretty much pieces of crap that aren't even worth looking at. I encourage anyone considering one of their products to think twice. I am a very unhappy consumer and will tell everyone that I know to not even consider any product manufactured by Samsung.
Yes, I could have purchased an "extended warranty" but come on people, 54 weeks an appliance works before breaking down and needing repair? That is absolutely absurd. I pretty much told Sears that they lost a customer and anyone else that I knew too. No wonder they are going out of business! They have terrible customer service and don't give a damn about the consumer. I had an independent service company come out to take a look, who, by the way did not charge me for the service call, as I had explained the situation to them. He checked it out and told me the motherboard would have to be replaced and that it would cost almost as much as I paid for the microwave in the first place.
How disappointing that I have been sitting here with a microwave for the past 2 years that doesn't work because I don't exactly have the luxury of being able to just go out and purchase a new one every year or two. I'm furious at Samsung for manufacturing such a substandard product and then knowing that it has problems, refused to do any kind of recall or offer to repair at no charge and also SEARS for being so not standing behind what they sell. Cheap labor = cheap materials = cheap products. Truly disgusting!

The last time, the service technician said that Samsung was aware that particular style of touch panel had a problem in areas where a lot of steam or moisture could be generated. If a microwave over a stove doesn't see a lot of steam, I don't know what will! So, it kept going out. They finally replaced the entire unit about 5 months ago. Now that one is acting up the same way. Wake up in the morning and the stove light and exhaust fan are running on high, and the touch panel is non-responsive. I will attempt to repair this myself by replacing the most likely component of the touchpad for $30.00 or less. I had the unit apart and attempted to clean the sensors. This worked for about 3 hours only to have the error recur. There are a couple of repair videos on YouTube that show you how simple the repair is for the DIY'ers out there... I'm dissatisfied overall, but going forward I'll turn the fan on when cooking where steam rolls upward to the unit and probably use the left front burner area to reduce the hot steam from being right underneath the control panel assembly... Maybe this will reduce the frequency probability in the future.

We researched various brands and based our decision on JD Powers, but also considered LG since both were rated highly. We also purchased with Lowe's as they had high ratings. Unfortunately, we have had so many problems with the Samsung appliances, and the salesperson incorrectly sold us a 2-unit extended warranty instead of a 4-unit warranty. We have seen many more issues than what we experienced with our basic 10-year old white Whirlpool appliances that we replaced that were original to the house but otherwise functioned correctly. We purchased extended warranties and have contacted Samsung many times, and the issues do not get resolved. Often, the local repair company will argue that there is nothing they can do.
Convection microwave: dead panel/completely inoperable. Dishwasher: multiple errors on control panel during cycles, does not clean, adjustable drawer holders have broken 8 times due to cracking with heat and we have to replace at our expense. Gas oven/range: will not cook foods correctly. Be sure you buy gas range with electric oven. Gas oven does not regulate correctly and always takes much longer than recipe calls for. Refrigerator: dual icemaker takes up nearly all the storage of going with larger unit; but otherwise, this has been the only Samsung appliance that has performed without failing during the first 2 years of ownership. We will avoid purchasing the so-called high end Korean appliances next time, and we will not purchase from Lowe's again.

Just this past week, we had to have out Samsung dishwasher serviced because debris had jammed the impeller preventing the wash pump from operating.
