DO NOT BUY this product (Magic Chef Dual Zone Wine and Beverage Center). I bought 1.5 years ago from Home Depot. It stopped cooling... the temperature would go up a degree every day. When calling Home Depot, they said the manufacturer warranty of one year expired, but the five year compressor warranty was good. After being referred to their repair center, I was basically told this unit is not worth the repair because the repairs (labor) would exceed the cost to replace the unit. We are now out of pocket $500 and having to purchase a new one (which by the way is hard to get a unit to fit in the undercounter/cabinet specs that this one has). Even more unbelievable, is after all the negative reviews I am now seeing, Home Depot continues to carry this product.

My freezer in my refrigerator just was not large enough to accommodate extra food that I needed to freeze. I saw that the Magic Chef was on sale at Home Depot for $99.00 so I went and purchased it. It is not very large but just large enough to freeze extra food that I might need to make ahead for Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. when I have extra company. I have had the freezer for 1 year and it has never given me any problems.

We purchased a Magic Chef 8.8 CU. FT. Upright Freezer (MCUF88W) about three years ago. It stopped working. With my limited knowledge of electronics I suspected the compressor went bad. I was happy to see that the compressor was under a 5-year (parts only) warranty. Now the problem. They can only send the part to a licensed appliance repair professional. I understand that based on the refrigerant handling and tools required to replace the part. I spoke with a local repair company and they refused to give me an estimate for the labor until they confirmed it was the compressor. Against my better judgment, I scheduled a service call for $70. It turned out to be the compressor and I was quoted $505.68 for labor to replace the compressor. I only paid $300 for the freezer in the first place. I will also be writing a review of the appliance repair company.
The 5-year compressor warranty is only a tool to make the consumer feel like they have some sort of protection. It is impossible to replace the part for less cost than buying a brand new freezer. I spoke with customer service about this issue and they were incredibly unsympathetic and rude, basically telling me "sorry for your luck". I made some mistakes in this process, like scheduling the service call and not purchasing the retail stores extended warranty, but I will not be buying another Magic Chef product based on my experience.

I ordered a Magic Chef portable ice cube maker, and I have had it about 3 and 1/2 months. But, alas, it has gone belly up. I ordered it from Fingerhut, and they do not take returns, and referred me to Magic Chef. Whereupon they told me I had to go back to the seller, Fingerhut. The great run-around. So, I'm out $232.97, and I refuse to pay. Does anyone know any recourse I have?

Wine and beverage center MCWBC77DZC - I was not happy with the way Magic Chef handled this whole situation. This is the poorest customer service I have ever received from your employees and upper management all the way to the supervisor. This is The most dysfunctional Organization this Company could give to Consumer. Even if you hire outside contractors you are solely responsible for their actions as well as anybody else’s actions. It all reflects back to your company in this warranty and you need to hold someone accountable. That is the problem with Companies these days. No one has the backbone to tell the truth about how customer service is And if you do tell the truth. Does the company even doing about it.
My experience “no.” I feel your warranty is as good as the piece of paper it was written on. Be truthful and just tell the consumer you don’t have a Warranty. My opinion you need to restructure your whole warranty department. For the Poor management skills. And you need to look into updating and being more involved on contractors and making them communicate with the customer. You tell someone 9 am to 5:00 pm. That is not Considered a appointment that is hours of operation or Service. Definition of an appointment is a arrangement to meet someone at a particular time and place. In conclusion I am not satisfied of your product and I question if you really care about what you are selling to the consumer. This situation was never resolved. Totally unsatisfied customer.

I bought a Magic Chef mini fridge exactly 13 months ago and the compressor stopped working. It would come back on intermittently only if you shook the fridge back and forth and that is for about 2 hours. The refrigerator has never been overloaded. Not has the door been open and closed a bunch of times in 24 hours. It gets extremely hot during the summer time where I've been running a fan in front of it. I'm extremely upset with CSR. They will warranty the compressor but I have to pay labor! This is extremely not acceptable at all. Everything in the back of the fridge is clean (no debris, no dog hair, no dust, Nothing!). I bought at Home Depot 11/27/2016.

This (Magic Chef wine fridge dual zone mcw44DZ) was bought from Home Depot about 5 years ago for about $450.00 (going by memory). It was installed in an under counter cabinet alcove with required clearances. It has always been warm and heated up the counter top above it despite the 1" air gap around it. This last year it has felt even warmer than usual and we became concerned. Today I emptied it and pulled it out. After I unplugged it and spent 10 minutes emptying it, 10 minutes getting it out, and a couple more minutes before I went to garage for infrared temp gun, back panel at compressor location was 119*!!! It was probably well over 125* at the beginning of that process. That is crazy heat.
I am not putting it back in. I am sure my electric bill will go down now. Otherwise, it has keep wine chilled as it should, but figure it was $90-100.00 a year depreciation, plus ridiculous electric usage, so maybe +/- $10 a month for "cooled" wine? My wines aren't that expensive. For us mere mortals and our $10-20.00 a bottle tastes, the storage costs make no sense. You really NEED to be buying pricey wines to amortize the costs over.

I purchased the Magic Chef 5.2 chest freezer a year ago model HMCF5W2. This is a HORRIBLE product. Not only did it stop working in less than a year. The customer service department offered minimal help in trying to rectify the situation. Granted it is only a $200 freezer, but lasting less than a year is totally a ripoff. The customer service agent offered to send a repairman to look at the freezer, but stated they are only responsible for the compressor and I would be responsible for the labor. Again, a $200 freezer, labor would have been well over that. I cannot express enough how disappointed I am in this product. Not only did I lose money on buying it. I lost the total cost of the food that was inside it. BUYER BEWARE.

Warranty is worthless. I purchased a Magic Chef chest freezer from Home Depot in November, 2015 and it stopped working in December, 2016. The compressor froze up and several hundred dollars worth of meat was ruined by the time I noticed it. I call the Magic Chef warranty service center and then because it was over one year old, by one month, they will only warranty the compressor not including labor to replace it. I would have to find an authorized service center, take it to them, pay them to diagnose the problem and then Magic Chef will send them a new compressor that I have to pay the labor to install and fill with Freon. The cost of all this is more than a new freezer will cost. They also will do nothing about the ruined food that the piece of junk freezer destroyed. I will never purchase anything with the Magic Chef name on it and would recommend others be warned about this company's poor quality and worse warranty.

Magic Chef model#MCM111OST: This microwave has turned dangerous. I don't believe this is even 2 yrs old. The unit will not shut off with the door open and no feature chosen. How can this brand still be allowed to be on the shelf. Upon looking into my situation I have found a number of complaints on this make along with other model numbers as well. Some customers' unit caught on fire. Now I have to worry if I keep it plugged in will it start to run while I'm sleeping.
So bizarre what corners are being cut when making products today. I have owned several different units throughout my life which have lasted for years and have never experienced anything like I have with this unit. I see that these units are still being sold. Just how much damage need to be done before they recall them. I can tell that Magic Chef could care less. Now I need a new one and know I'm going to eat this purchase. Where do I start. Who do I trust. It's really sad in what this world has come to. I guess this is what we have to put up with if we chose our wonderful modern technically. So I guess the bottom line is nothing is ever made to last. Not even for 2 full years!! So SAD!!!

My Magic Chef over-the-range microwave caught on fire while in the "timer" mode. I was cooking on the stove below and set the timer on the microwave as I normally do. No food was inside the microwave. Then after a few minutes the microwave automatically activated into VENT FAN mode by itself, which usually does happen from heat from the stovetop. In the manual this is a normal "safety function" to cool down the microwave from the heat from the stovetop.
I soon began to smell something burning. I opened the microwave and there were flames inside. I ran & shut the circuit breaker off and my husband was able to put out the flames. The glass turntable was shattered & burnt; the rubber gasket was on fire and the bottom of the inside of the microwave was burnt & charred. Good thing I was in the house when this happened. Otherwise the fire would have spread throughout the kitchen & possibly burning down the house. Very scary incident.

Purchased the microwave when my 30 year old GE microwave died in October 2015 and no parts were available. The only service in 30 years was replacement of a light bulb. Saw an ad in the local paper in early November for a Magic Chef for $54.88 + tax at Wal-Mart in Buffalo, MN. The unit died in mid-January. About 60 days in my kitchen after being used to heat up occasional cups of coffee or heating water or soups or defrosting frozen stuff. 60 days!!! I've had dogs run over by cars that lived for 10 years afterward.
Called MC customer service whereupon they directed me to a service center 30 miles SW of my home. They confirmed with me that the microwave was built within the previous 12 months, so it would be repaired under warranty, even though I did not have a proof of purchase. I took the unit to the service center which turned out to be a part-time appliance repair shop which was empty of any appliances until I brought the dead MC microwave in. That was a 60 mile round trip.
Ten days later the MC customer service called to tell me there were no parts available for the unit. They would send me a new microwave but I must pay the $29.30(?) shipping cost. After I had a conversation with Wal-Mart Customer Service, Magic Chef customer service called me again and said I would receive a new microwave after I drove back to the service center, retrieved the microwave, cut off the power cord, took a photo of it and the serial/model number plate and emailed it to them. Thinking about it on the way home with the junk microwave, I considered whether having another oven for which there were no replacement parts available was wise. I decided it was not so went to Wal-Mart with the oven to try to get a store credit to buy another oven.
I won't even add the experience of talking to the Buffalo, MN Wal-mart store assistant manager about Wal-mart taking the unit back, giving me a store credit. They would not give me a store credit because I did not know what the PUC code for the product was. It was printed on the microwave carton and on the proof of purchase, neither of which I had. After this experience I came to understand why Wal-Mart can't find any employees for their stores. The search for a 17% bottom line profit exceeds customer service. According to an online story last week, the Waltons received over 5 billion dollars for their share of the chain.

Magic Chef Chest Freezer 6.9 cubic Ft Model HMCF7W2 - I purchased this freezer on October 11, 2015 because it seemed to be an amazing bargain!! Well I learned BUYER BEWARE, not only did my freezer stop working in 65 days but Magic Chef said they do not cover content and if I would have read the manual completely I would know that contents are not covered. Home Depot said even though it is under warranty the only way they would cover the content is if I spent the money to buy an extended warranty.
It is amazing that a unit under warranty and less than 90 days old would only totally be covered under warranty if you bought a Home Depot extended warranty!!! I lost over $300 in food! I purchased the fridge in January 2015 in Home Depot, 7 month later in July it broke... for the second time! On the second day after purchase the fridge started making high pitch noise and Home Depot replaced it fairly quickly. However the worst thing is not the fact that this "refrigerator" is a very unreliable product, the worst thing is Magic Chef or how they also call themselves MC Appliance or MCA Corporation is the fact that they don't care about their warranty responsibilities at all!
However 7 month later I wasn't as lucky. The first time I scheduled the service call I waited on my only weekend from 9 to 5 at home and nobody showed up. When I called them the next day, they told me that my service call was cancelled but they don't know why!!! When I asked them to reschedule to the nearest available date, they told me that they have to talk to the maintenance people. Then I called back again and they told me that they don't have my information! Now you can imagine what kind of company this is.
Now about the cost. Yes it's cheap but once your fridge breaks you lose all your groceries because they rot. I lost $150 worth of recently purchased groceries. Then you would have to eat outside. Because of this "wonderful" company I am eating outside for already 3 weeks, spending about $20 a day on 2 meals. All together I spent on the food about $550. If I subtract the cost of groceries I would have purchased, the amount of money I WASTED because of this company totals to about $300! While the price of the fridge is $324. My advice stay away from Magic Chef products as far as possible, pay extra $300 and buy a high quality product. Otherwise there is a good chance you'd stay without a fridge, forced spending money on the outside food for weeks!

Popcorn, which I usually air pop, is 2x as long as the bag says, then the internal circuit breaker trips and you're left with a lot of unpopped kernels. The fan never vented from day 1. The lightbulbs broke underneath and there is no room to get anything in there to replace them. The plastic fan grill randomly broke off one day, the handle broke off too. It's just a piece of trash. I bought a house with a Magic Chef oven MCO160UB. A couple of months ago, I saw smoke curling out from behind the control panel then the oven went dead. I thought 'Wow! That's weird'. So being an electrical engineer I opened it up to investigate. The power wire to the door switch was fried off. Let me repeat this more clearly: the copper stranding was even burnt apart - like splatter unwelded. So without questioning, I fixed it and feeling pretty good about this minor fix. Then 4 months later, the oven goes south and won't turn on. This could be the door switch? No, the control panel works. But press the start button and oven goes dark, dead.
So now I pursue the repair until I get to this site. What a fool I was for replacing the wire. I could have caused an unattended fire. The oven is now off the wall and in the trash. I will purchase from a different manufacturer. Let me state a revelation here: after reading the posts about manufacturer then replace them. Also, I believe these units are not fully tested for operation above ranges. The instructions [recommend] 30". My unit is 24". Not my doing. But still no posters relayed what type of range it sits above, as in what type of heating element. Or better yet is the range a different manufacturer? Stop and think about that.
Do you think Magic Chef tested the units above other manufacturer's ranges? I think not. Why? All ranges are the same! A stove is a stove. Really? But not all manufacturers are. So that being said, I believe we are victims of NFT (not fully tested). 'Nuff said.

I purchased the Magic Chef MCSDRY1S Laundry Dyer in July 2014. By November 2014 the fan belt broke down. That's when the nightmare started. It is impossible to find a replacement part anywhere (I spent days going to stores and searching online). I ended up paying $37 for this belt (which is not worth more than $5) on their website and the order was cancelled because they do not have it. I called customer service and they told me to wait and they will call me back when they have it. They cannot tell me for sure if and when they will have it so they just told me to wait. When I asked for an explanation why they do not have replacement parts for their new products the representative hang up on me. Now my options are limited: wait for a replacement part that I don't know when or if it will ever get here, buy the same product again so at least now I will have the replacement parts (honestly I don't want to spend another penny with this company) or buy a different brand . During the first few months of use it would on occasion run for the set amount of time but would not heat food at all. When asking Home Depot about it they said to adjust the power setting, this of course resolved nothing. Then to add insult to injury we were told to contact Magic Chef as it was their problem not Home Depot's. As things turn out that problem of not heating seemed relatively small now that my whole Magic Chef microwave has completely stopped working altogether. I am very disappointed with this product, the service I received from Home Depot and the fact that I cannot receive any help, call back or reimbursement from the Magic Chef company. Purchased a Magic Chef Chest Freezer Model HMCF7W1 on sale at Home Depot on March 30, 2014. On Tuesday evening of this week I noticed the freezer was not working properly. Food items stored in the freezer were beginning to defrost. Contacted Magic Chef because the appliance was still under warranty. Arrangements were made for a repair person from a local company to come to my home today between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. The technician arrived on time and after looking at the freezer informed me it could not be repaired. He suspected that a soldered connection inside the case had broken allowing all the refrigerant gas to leak out.
The technician contacted Magic Chef and informed the company the freezer was not repairable. Shortly thereafter, I received an email from Magic Chef notifying me that a refund check would be sent to me. I contacted Magic Chef and informed them although I had just dumped nearly $200.00 worth of food I didn't expect to be reimbursed. I did not think it was fair however for me to have to drive nearly 20 miles to the recycling center and pay $30.00 to get rid of an appliance that failed after only 7 months. In addition, the refunded amount won't even cover the cost for a replacement freezer because the Magic Chef was purchased on sale.
I'm out of $200 in food plus the cost of dumping the freezer and the difference between what I'll have to pay for a new one and what I paid for the Magic Chef freezer. I will NEVER PURCHASE any products made by Magic Chef again. I will also notify family, friends and FB friends and urge them to not buy any appliances made by this company.

Needless to say, given the original purchase price, this was definitely not worth it. The repairman also told us he gets nothing but complaints for the Magic Chef 10 cu. ft. units and he has seen dozens that have stopped working in similar circumstances.
We are shocked by the shoddiness of this product. We have known the Magic Chef name for decades. We have known the Maytag name even longer. I grabbed a fire extinguisher from the garage, ran back into the kitchen, but the fire had extinguished by then. I went out to our breaker box and turned off the breaker to the outlet that the unit was plugged in to. By this time, our home security system had detected a fire, the operator called and dispatched the fire department when I mentioned smoke. The fire department arrived, I led them to the microwave, they used their FLIR to look for hot spots, found none, and advised me not to use the product.
I removed the microwave from its mountings, took it to my garage, disassembled the unit, and found obvious signs of fire in one of the transformer windings, which I took many pictures of. The transformer make and model appeared to be a Qingdao Yunlu Electronics Co Ltd DLAR10A0-1HT. I removed the transformer, took a great deal more photographs, and noticed that it was still warm to the touch. All other components in the microwave seemed to have no external signs of damage. In 2007, I purchased a Magic Chef Refrigerator model: CTB1821ARW. The refrigerator is not six years old yet, and it looks like new. I never had any problems with the refrigerator until recently; the defrost heater stopped working. I called a service professional to fix the problem, and this is when I ran into another problem; the defrost heater part is not available anymore.
I cannot find a defrost heater part # 63001387 for my refrigerator which would cost me approximately $30, so I have to dispose of my refrigerator which costs $600 and buy a new one, preferably one of the Whirlpool’s family. This is what a Whirlpool customer service representative suggested. Do you think it would be reasonable to throw away a five or six years old refrigerator? I don’t think so, but Whirlpool corporation’s customer service representatives think it’s a great idea.
Whirlpool Corporation acquired a company which was producing Magic Chef Products, but it is obvious they forgot to acquire their liabilities. Searching for defrost heater online, I discovered that I am not alone in this frustration. Many other consumers who purchased Magic Chef Refrigerator five or six years are having the same problem. When consumers purchase costly products, they do not expect the assembly parts for their products to be discontinued in the next five years or even sooner. I have to question, “Is this how Whirlpool Corporation makes their profits?”
Because I couldn't accept the fact that I have to buy a new refrigerator just because of a small part which is discontinued, I sent a letter to CEO Mr. Fetting asking him for help. Two weeks later, I received a phone call supposedly from the executive office. Jennifer was trying to explain to me that Whirlpool Corporation is not responsible for not having parts for Magic Chef Refrigerators. Instead, she offered a 30 percent discount on the suggested retail price on my choice of Whirlpool brand refrigerator.
Anyone who did a research before purchasing a costly appliance knows that Whirlpool products are more expensive and lower rated compare to Frigidaire or Kenmore products. 30 percent discount on Whirlpool refrigerator still doesn't match a regular price of Frigidaire or Kenmore. Later, I got another offer in the mail which said that I can purchase an extended four year warranty which will cost me $454. The agreement states that if a refrigerator cannot be fixed, it will be replaced with a new one (sounds grate); but there is a little trick. For refrigerators such as mine, which are 5 years old, only 40 percent of its cost will be replaced. Any reasonable person who can calculate will see how foolish this offer is. I already know that my refrigerator cannot be fixed due to discontinued part. Whirlpool Corporation wants me to pay $454 for extended warranty which will make me eligible for a refund of 40 percent, approximately $240. Where is the logic? Do they really want to help their customers? I feel as if they slapped me on my face.
Here are a couple of quotes from the Whirlpool site, “Whirlpool Corporation is committed to building products that consumers around the world can depend on to meet their daily needs. This commitment to quality begins in the concept stages and continues throughout the lifetime of the appliance. The result of these efforts is a sustainable and competitive advantage for the company.” “Our vision reinforces that every home is our domain, every customer and customer activity our opportunity. This vision fuels the passion that we have for our customers, pushing us to provide innovative solutions to uniquely meet their needs.”

I purchased from Home Depot a Magic Chef 4.2 cubic foot fridge (model number MCBR445B1) in 2007. Over this weekend, the fridge just died. It won't turn back on and it spoiled all of my food. I calmly called Magic Chef and got in touch with a manager called Tim **. He basically said I needed to bring the unit to a "repair facility," which is probably owned by Magic Chef corporation for repair. The condenser was still in my 5-year warranty; however, the labor to replace the condenser would cost me $250. Are you kidding me? That's $100 more than what I paid for the unit brand-new.
I immediately began to get frustrated with him. He sounded like a robot, and I told him that's unfair and how labor be $250 to put in a condenser that failed on their unit. He didn't say anything afterwards, and I told him his products are all garbage and that I will certainly be complaining about this to Consumer Affairs. It did not faze him at all.
Now, I'm stuck with this fridge, and I'm basically screwed out of $175.00. There's an Avanti fridge in my office that's over 20 years old and that's still running cold and strong. How does a Magic Chef fridge that's supposed to last between 10-15 years die within 4 years? That's complete garbage, and as a frustrated consumer, I need to let everyone know not to buy a Magic Chef product. They are cheap for a reason; once it breaks down after the 1-year manufacturer's warranty, you are basically out of your money!

My husband bought a Magic Chef Microwave for me maybe two years ago and it has had minimal usage. Last week, I was in another room and I heard a beep that came from the kitchen. I went inside to see what was beeping and the microwave says it is set to cook at 3.5 minutes, all by itself, and then it turned on as if it were cooking something. The panel didn't respond and I had to unplug it. I figured maybe the humidity (which hasn't been that high yet) was affecting the circuit board.
A couple of days later, I plug it in. It worked fine for the few minutes I needed it. I left it plugged in. The same thing happens in the middle of the night. I wake up at 4 in the morning, hear a beep and the setting was the same at 3.5 minutes and starts cooking nothing. Rinse, repeat. Now it turns on but the panel doesn't respond to anything but it sure will reset itself to 3.5 mighty quick. The microwave is a menace and a fire hazard.
I have searched Google about complaints and it seems there are an abundant amount of complaints for years. Why hasn't Magic Chef had a recall on something that is obviously defective? Are they waiting until someone's house burns down, a family dies, and are served a lawsuit for their negligence?
The consequences of this after doing some research on what is happening are as follows:
1, Maytag/Magic Chef has lost me a customer because:a) they fail to listen to the numerous consumer complaints about their microwaves no matter what the model and
b) fail to recall the items and replace it. These complaints have turned me off to all of their products.
2. I have to go and buy a new microwave now. One that won't turn on and cook nothing by itself, or set my house on fire.

Never buy a Magic Chef anything! I have over the course of 5 years, purchased 2 10 cubic foot fridges. I live in an apartment and needed the smaller size. My first fridge lasted about 2 years and then suddenly stopped cooling. I had moved 2 times over that period and thought it was a result of those moves. Bought a second one but then that one died too! About 2 days ago, it started clicking and then suddenly everything thawed. Rather than cool air, it started filling the fridge/freezer with warm air. Needless to say, everything was ruined.
I can't find my receipt, so I can't use the warranty and even then, the last time I had issues Magic Chef wasn't too eager to help at all. I talked to a repair guy today who told me it's either my compressor or condenser. Either way it's going to be at least $200 to fix it which is way more than the damn thing is worth overall. Even before it stopped working, I was having problems. The seal started to separate and wouldn't keep the fridge door shut tightly, causing cool air to escape all the time. I actually had to Velcro the door, shut to keep it from leaking. Had a repair tech come look at it and he said I needed a new seal. No! At this point, buying a new fridge from anybody but Magic Chef will save me money. My apartment rents full sized upright fridges for $25 a month and that is an even better deal.
I'm out over $500 over a 5 year period and on a student budget. Not to mention loss of food. I'm not seeking any damages or refunds as it seems that MC doesn't seem to give a damn about their customers, but if I can keep just one person from making the same mistake I did. Then it was worth it. Save your money!

I purchased a small countertop Magic Chef microwave oven from WalMart in fall 2007 and used it for three months before putting it in storage for 15-18 mos. Within six months of taking it out of storage (two years of ownership, but less than nine months of actual use), the microwave began to stop functioning while defrosting meat or cooking vegetables. I thought it was a misguided/over protective "auto shut off" safety feature. Then I noticed the microwave would sometimes beep for no reason and caught itself starting while unattended.
At the time, I lived in an old apartment, with bad wiring and the maintenance man had put 30 amp fuses in 20 amp circuits. I thought the microwave was acting up due to power surges. I tried to leave the door ajar so the unit couldn't start and kept a glass of water in the microwave just in case the door fell closed and a "power surge" caused the microwave to start while unattended. I also put the microwave on a surge suppressor to address the power surges.
About six months ago, I moved to a different apartment and the microwave stopped acting up, which I took as more support for my bad wiring/power surge theory at the other apartment. On Christmas day, the microwave self-started while defrosting steak. My adult sons thought I had programmed it that way and I thought they were doing it; only when I began asking them why they had done that to the meat did we ascertain that the microwave had self-started. We unplugged it immediately, then plugged it in to use to reheat something and forgot to unplug it.

We have been very happy with this freezer. I noticed that pizza slices on top were limp and defrosted, so we moved the meats, which were still rock hard frozen to the kitchen freezer.
I called a freezer repairman and he showed me what was wrong. The black coil on the back of the freezer that connects to the compressor is held on with plastic clips that allow the coil to sag lower than it should, causing a hole in the coil tubing where it rubs due to the sagging. This caused a hole which allowed the 12oz of freon it holds to leak. He said this was a definite design flaw. I saw nothing in the manual that says upon set up to check these clips, but I see lots of people complaining on the Internet about this exact same design flaw problem.
Your customer service representative, Ray, says my freezer is out of warranty by one month and he hasn't ever heard of this problem. It is very common according to the dissatisfied customers posting this same problem on the Internet. You should print in your manual to check this as I know according to Ray that they're made in China and are jostled so much during the shipment over to U.S. We really loved our freezer, when it worked! A few days later, the repair company called me, advising the main circuit board was out and they were ordering a new one under warranty. The ice maker was to be used for a long camping trip. So I called Magic Chef, and I paid for them to overnight the parts.
On June 16, 2010, I received a call from Magic Chef that the ice maker cannot be repaired. Magic Chef advised me that they would refund my money, not including the overnight fees for the parts. Magic Chef customer service stated they would not send my refund until I picked up the ice maker from the repair shop. I had to go pick it up and then call them back. I immediately went to the repair shop to get the ice maker, so they would send my refund.
As I picked up the ice maker, I asked the service worker what was wrong with the machine. He stated he spoke with Magic Chef and advised them that there was a short somewhere else in the unit because the circuit boards fuse had blown, not the entire board. Magic Chef stated to replace the circuit board. The service worker stated he advised Magic Chef that it was most likely a short with the compressor but that Magic Chef had him replace the circuit board.
New circuit board arrived and was installed. The machine turned on, but as soon as the compressor turned on, it blew the fuse again. Service worker was right--a short with the compressor. He called Magic Chef, and they will not fix the compressor. The service worker stated Magic Chef asked how much it would cost him to get rid of the unit and there is a $35.00 fee at the City Dump. (They must recover the chemicals by law before destruction.) The service worker stated Magic Chef told him that he was not to get rid of it and that they would make the owner come pick it up.
I received a defective item. When the item could not be repaired, and they will not take it back and replace with a new one, Magic Chef decided to refund my money. But now, I have to pay a fee to get rid of the appliance. Magic Chef is negligent, knowing there is a cost to get rid of an appliance that cannot be repaired and making me pay for it.

I bought a Magic Chef refrigerator model no. MCBR1020W in late February 2010. It never worked properly. It would cool, then stop working for hours and suddenly work again for a few hours. Food was spoiled on several occasions. Magic Chef first sent a repairman who told me that he had to get authorization from Magic Chef to order parts. Magic Chef later refused to authorize a refund until three attempts had been made to repair the refrigerator.
The repairman came five more times. Over the course of many weeks, two more to inspect, determine what parts might be needed and then to get authorization from Magic Chef and three times to install the parts for a total of six visits without the refrigerator being fixed as more and more food was spoiled. The result ultimately was that Magic Chef finally agreed to refund me the money but only after I mailed them the cut off power cord, at my expense, to their office in Wood Dale, Illinois. They advised me that removal and disposal of this worthless piece of junk was my responsibility and they would not pay for it!

That’s ** if you can't cook a meal in it that requires 6 minutes. Then, something is wrong. This product is a piece of garbage and never will I buy Magic Chef again. We'd had a GE microwave for 25 years. Never had a problem, but wanted to update the size, style, color. Bought a Magic Chef above the stove model from Home Depot in Canada. From day one, if we cooked things like poppadoms, which take about 30 seconds on high, it would turn itself off and take 10 minutes before we could use it again. Recently, even though it's only 18 months old, it blew the fuse when the door was opened. We replaced one fuse, but it did the same thing right away, so fearing for our safety, we've unplugged it. Now, I am reading about all of the problems others have with Magic Chef. We will never buy this brand again. It's garbage.
This has cost us several hours of our time, finding fuse location, replacing it, then having the same issue and trying to troubleshoot via the web. The unit cost about $290 initially. It's over-the-stove, so taking it down for repair and putting it back is time-consuming and costly.

This complaint is about the Magic Chef microwave model MC0160UW. We purchased a home in Maryland in June 21, 2008. At this time, the entire kitchen was replaced as part of the purchase agreement. The microwave was installed by a contractor on a dedicated circuit. We have been in the house 18 months. The microwave has seen only light use; there are only 2 people in our house, my wife and I.
The microwave turned itself on at its own will anytime day or night. So we have unplugged it for fear of burning our house down. The company will not fix it, because warranty has expired. It seemed as if there were a lot of problems with many of this same model. At less than 2 years of light use, I am forced to buy another. It will not be a Magic Chef or from Home Depot.
Neither will do anything about this problem. Maybe if it burns someone's house down and kills somebody, we will get some action. Kinda like Toyota--no damage, because the manufacturer told me to unplug it and not to use it. And they would recommend a repair company. I called and was told that the cost of the part and labor would be around $150 to $200, outweighing the cost of the unit.

After installation in March 2009, the Magic Chef above the stove microwave, Model MCO160UW was acting strange. The lights in the kitchen would dim when the microwave was on. I didn't think too much about it until lately, when I realized the venting action (ours is vented up through the top and out the front) was not working. The fan was blowing a lot of air out the front but the steam from the stove top pots was just gently wafting up in front of the microwave, not through the bottom vents.
I called the 888 number for service and was told that it didn't vent smoke from the bottom of the microwave! (In spite of the fact there are washable screens that are supposed to filter steam, on the bottom of the unit) I don't know where Dorthea, the girl who was fielding the calls, thought it was supposed to vent to, but she was not listening to what I had to say. Dorthea finally said if I faxed a copy of my receipt to her, she would schedule a service call. I faxed a copy of my receipt to her to schedule a service call on Feb. 15th.
I called back on the 17th as I had not heard from them. I was told that someone would get back to me in a couple of days. I called back today, Feb. 19th to see what was happening. I was told that Dorthea had made a call to the local repair shop and was waiting for them to call her back. Amazingly, she just called me back and asked if the fan turned on and if it could be turned from low to high and I said it could. Dorthea then told me her supervisor said it was working and they would not service my unit. I will never buy another Magic Chef product after experiencing their lack of quality and "service". We could not cook popcorn, as it would shut down, vegetables, etc. Because it had passed a 90 day warranty, we were told to contact Magic Chef directly or MC Appliance. We did so and they sent out a local repair service. They came out four times and replaced everything from the Magnatron to the complete push button panel and still it would not work correctly.
The appliance repair techs were baffled and kept telling me that they had no clue as to what was going on with it. They also said the Magic Chef techs were not helpful and kept saying that I needed to put the veggies and potatoes on a microwave safe plate. We had been doing that and it still shuts off. Also, that when we cooked popcorn as well as other things, we needed to put a cup of water in the microwave as well. The techs thought that was the craziest thing they suggested and so did I.
The customer service person, Victor, that I was dealing with was rude and not at all helpful. This was a fairly reasonably priced unit ($59.99), but $59.99 plus $4.20 sales tax is still $64.19 that we now essential have lost because the unit malfunctioned and it isn't covered under warranty. Thankfully we experienced no physical damage, but because it went on at night, it could have caught fire and caused significant damage until we were able to put a fire out. Had it happened during the daytime, it could have been worse since we work (as do many of our neighbors) and we have pets in the house.

The microwave turns itself off and on, so we have to unplug it because we are afraid a fire will start. This was a Magic Chef which is only two years old.

We bought a Magic Chef over range microwave unit in Autumn 2007. The model number is found inside. The date of manufacture is listed as July 2007. The model # is MCO 153SF. We are not aware of the unit starting spontaneously as other users are unfortunately discovering. However, if we attempt to cook bagged popcorn, the microwave shuts down and goes to sleep for a few hours and then returns to use. We note that attempts to cook popcorn produce some steam. (Could it be the steam is condensing on electronics in the M.W. and causing them to short-out the unit until it dries of its own accord?) We are a family of 7 children and parents. We have not contacted Magic Chef or Home Depot, where the unit was purchased concerning the problem, as we simply do not have the time to complain.
Yesterday, the unit was heating something other than popcorn and it suddenly stopped and appears to be sleeping (nothing is coming up on the display panel). It's now been 16 hours of sleep. I have confirmed absolutely the power to the unit is available acknowledging the kitchen has split receptacles. The apparent unwillingness of Magic Chef to address the problems I read of by claiming they only label-it-not-manufacture-it is a nonsense excuse to avoid responsibility. The warranty is a contract made between the purchaser and the entity willing to place their label on the unit unless the warranty specifies otherwise.

I bought a Magic Chef Over the Range Microwave oven on August 12th, 2007. It has for the past two weeks been turning on and running by itself. I see that there are many complaints on this particular item. I want it replaced with a different model. So far, no damage has been to our home. We are out of a microwave at this time because we now have to leave it unplugged. We are in fear of something happening.

I have a Magic Chef over the range microwave that is less than 2 years old. While on our internet site, I discovered a lot of consumers that have the exact problem with their microwaves as I do. It will turn itself on and off. I have unplugged the microwave to keep it from starting any fires while I am not at home. Since all others have failed in any attempt of having the problem corrected, I agree that it should be recalled. Does it take someone's home to burn down because of the faulty oven to get a recall? What is the recourse for the consumer to protect ourselves and to ensure that this product is not sold anymore? I have been lucky that I am home when the microwave has gone on. I have to leave it unplugged and only can use it when I am home. I have kids in the house that wouldn't know what to do in the case of it turning on and could be a very tragic circumstance.

I purchased a Magic Chef over the range microwave and have noticed that it turns itself off for no apparent reason in the middle of a cooking cycle. The clock on the unit is never right - partly because it turns itself off and back on. We originally thought we may have faulty wiring in our home. We checked and found there is nothing wrong with the wiring. I'll admit I haven't attempted to contact the manufacturer or the store where I purchased the unit. I found too many complaints online of other consumers who have already fought that battle to no avail.

I see that many others have the same problem with the Magic Chef over-the-range microwave. It will automatically come on, clock rests, etc. Home Depot won't service it (it's not ours). Magic Chef won't service it (it’s just our name). Why isn't there a class action lawsuit yet?

We had purchased a 10 cu. ft. fridge in 2005. That one failed. We then went out and purchased another one in June 2008. That one has now failed. The compressor is gone. You get 5 years on the compressor, but only if it happens within the 1 year? Huh? What kind of business are they running? Are they not concerned about what customers have to say especially in this economy? I myself am going to write to every negative website I can find on them. Oh, and by the way, why is there no place on the website to contact them?

Magic Chef over-the-stove microwave oven turns on by itself and becomes very hot to touch. It stops working in the middle of a program cook cycle. The clock rests frequently. I have had to disable this microwave for fear that it will turn on while I am away from home and start a fire. Home Depot will not return the item and Magic Chef will not service it as they stated "We just label this microwave, we do not manufacture it." I purchased this microwave less than a year ago (11/2008) and now I must replace it without any warranty. This is a life-threatening hazard as it is a fire risk. It should be recalled and taken off the market. Magic Chef should be held responsible!

After researching the recalls, we discovered that many people have had the same problem with their over-the-range microwave - it turns itself on. There are numerous complaints logged in online. Many of these people have contacted both Magic Chef (and got a run-around) and the stores where they purchased the microwave (Lowe’s or Home Depot). Neither has done anything to help. At the minimum, it should be recalled before people die.

I bought this range microwave over at Lowe's on Thanksgiving weekend 2007. It wasn't installed until about April of 2008. I used it for about 6 months before it started turning itself on. We would be in another room and hear it turn on. I walk in and it had started itself on the popcorn setting. Also, any time I would cook anything on the stove that produced steam, the entire control panel on the microwave would become unusable. It would totally freeze up whether it was in use or not. I couldn't cancel, start, nothing! I would just have to unplug it.
We finally just unplugged the microwave and only plugged it in when we had to until we could afford to replace it. When we removed it from the wall, there were burn marks everywhere that there had been holes in the mounting bracket. Crazy! I cannot believe this product has not been recalled. Neither Lowe's nor Magic Chef would help me (despite the fact that it was still under warranty). I was tossed back and forth and finally gave up after dozens of unreturned phone calls. Selling a faulty product is bad enough, but selling products that put people and families in danger is absolutely inexcusable and that is exactly what they are doing here. Something has to be done about this!

I have owned the Magic Chef microwave purchased from Home Depot for about 2-1/2 years. It is used minimally, approximately 2-3 times a month. And now it is not working. When I called Magic Chef, I was told that they do not service this microwave (MCD990SC) because they don't make it and they only put their name on it. It seems from other complaints that it is common for Magic Chef to not stand behind their name. I'm positive it will cost more to fix it than to purchase a new, non-Magic Chef microwave, so against all my wishes this one will go into the dump. I suggest not buying Magic Chef as they will not stand behind products with their name on them.

A week ago (week ending on 7/31/2009), my microwave began turning itself on and off. This action has been happening since. I had my daughter go online to find where I can call to check on my warranty, and she ran across many testimonials about fires occurring due to the same products made by Magic Chef. I have only had my microwave for 2-3 years, and it was purchased at a Home Depot in the area in which I live. I would like the microwave either replaced or repaired at no cost to me, and I would like the manufacturer to recall the "over-the-range microwave."
