We bought the Kitchenaid combination microwave/convection oven in 2017. Our problem with the unit is a faulty door latch, that apparently is a manufacturing flaw which Kitchenaid is not addressing. Sometimes as we attempt to use the microwave, we get a message that says "open/close door". This is an indication that the latch portion that is in the unit (not the door) recedes back into the unit. We have had a repair man come twice to fix the problem, with a standard $89 fee that Kitchenaid does not recognize as covered under warranty. The second time he came, he told us he gets many calls for this problem, and showed us how to fix it ourselves to avoid the service call. It is a 30 minute nuisance to get into the panel for a temporary fix. We are disappointed that Kitchenaid would sell a product that is destined to malfunction repeatedly. We are hopeful they will stand behind their good reputation and fix this manufacturer's error.

We purchased a countertop $599 microwave in February, 2018 for our small business of 7 employees. After about 13 months the open latch broke. Of course the warranty had just ended and so we had to pay to repair it. In October, 2019 it completely stopped working. Called the store where I bought it, they said I had to call KitchenAid directly and gave me the model and serial number information I needed. KitchenAid (Whirlpool) told me they didn't have the parts for this model and that they don't repair their countertop microwaves.
This micro was used maybe 2X per week to reheat employee leftovers or warm water for tea. It is absolutely crazy that it worked for less than 2 years. Avoid KitchenAid microwaves at all costs! They offered no resolution other than I could buy another one! Really? I will NEVER buy another appliance - microwave or otherwise - from KitchenAid. I have microwaves that I paid less than $100 for that have lasted five times as long and have been used far more frequently!

We purchased the new low profile style of KitchenAid microwave hood combination to replace a 21 year old Maytag model. I could no longer get parts for the "old girl" so decided to update. Installed the new unit in March of 2019. The performance of the microwave is as I expected from a higher end product. The model upgrades to LED lighting and the exhaust fan features are all pluses for this unit. The microwave touchpad and programs have worked very well. I would be rating this unit with 5 stars at this point except for one major flaw....
There are (5) chrome buttons on the front face of the microwave to control the lighting, fan, open the door, cancel program, and start menu programs. On the surface of the buttons lettering had been stenciled to identify the function for each of these (5) buttons. After about 6 months of use the lettering has become faint and/or disappeared. Of course the two buttons used the most "START" and "OPEN" are now basically missing any lettering to identify the function of that button.
In September I decided to contact KitchenAid Customer Experience Center about the problem. I first used the contact via e-mail found on the KitchenAid website explaining the issue with the button lettering disappearing. Received a response about 5 days later stating they were sorry I was experiencing and understood it could be frustrating. Then went on to state quote "When touching the control panel, be sure there are no oils or lotion on your fingers. This can damage the lettering and finish.". They would be sure to pass on my complaint for review and future improvements. Of course this response did not sit well with me. What kitchen appliance should not stand up to "normal" use with your skin oils or other kitchen products touching its surfaces.
I then called to arrange for a service call on the microwave again explaining to the representative my issue with missing button lettering. After much discussion of the problem they basically categorized the problem as "cosmetic" and therefore excluded under their warranty. The warranty in the User Guide also stipulates in bold lettering "The cost of repair or replacement under these excluded circumstances shall be borne by the customer". No service call was set up at this point.
After a couple more e-mail exchanges with Consumer Correspondence Team personnel, they recommended I arrange a service call to have a local KitchenAid repair technician look at my problem. I asked them to waive any costs for the service visit IF the technician could not classify the defect as anything other than what they had already called "cosmetic". They could not provide me with such a waiver and no service call was arranged.
I would say the Customer Experience Center personnel listened to my complaint and understood my dissatisfaction, but could not help resolve the problem. I even asked them to just send a set of new buttons and I would be a happy customer. I don't think that is going to happen either. No further communications for a couple of weeks now.
Like I stated earlier, I now have (2 of 5) buttons without identification as to their function. The User Guide does not pictures of these buttons so you cannot lookup what the buttons do, good thing for our memory I guess. The frustration is the lettering should be able to withstand normal use in a kitchen environment without rubbing off. It is more than a cosmetic issue. Thus the reason for the 2-star rating for this appliance. I just want current and future customers to be aware of this issue. A photo is attached of the right hand side buttons showing the lettering disappearing with use.

We spent $665.11 on a microwave that lasted 1 year and 2 months. As is does not fall into their 1 year warranty, they refuse to help or compensate in any way. We had the same issue with a $900 dishwasher we purchased from KitchenAid a couple of years ago. BOTH appliances stopped working after exactly 1 year! It would seem that they are in the business of manufacturing CHEAP China appliances that break shortly after their warranty so you must purchase another one.
Customer service is no help at all. They just read from a script repeating the same sentence over and over again. Other companies like Black & Decker and GE have much better customer service and ability to help customers when their products do not work. Would shop from them instead! I purchased a KitchenAid microwave model# KMCS3022GSS and trim kit in May, 2018 as we were in the process of remodeling our kitchen and the cabinet maker needed the dimensions of the unit to build the cabinets. I knew that I was taking a warranty risk as it was going to take 8 months to get my cabinets but I expected KitchenAid products to be high quality. However, in less than 8 months of actual operation the microwave has died and from what I’m reading on this site it can’t be repaired so I’m out over $500. I’ve been a loyal Whirlpool/KitchenAid customer but it’s time to look for another supplier.

We purchased a combination oven & microwave/convection oven in 2008, the microwave recently began to not heat food and drinks. We notified KitchenAid and were referred to a local repair who diagnosed the problem and said it would require a new magnetron and control board, with labor the cost would be $650+, we decided the cost of the repair was much less than a new oven and microwave and committed to the repair. Repair was made, microwave now functions/heats food and drinks at a fraction of the previous level. Had repairman return today to diagnose and repair again. He proceeded to do test as dictated by KitchenAid's factory tech on the phone with him, "fill vessel with 10oz. of water, check temperature, heat for 30 seconds and check again". The difference was +20 degrees hotter which is the lowest level of their benchmark for acceptable being acceptable.
Bottom line is it still doesn't heat as it did before the $650+ repair. I then spoke with rep at Kitchenaid for an hour expressing my displeasure and asking for help, their answer’s sorry but it's a 10-11 year old appliance and they don't perform as well when they're that old is the final word from them. My question to her was why didn't anyone mention that before we committed to the repair, she was silent on that. Sooo, I will not advocate KitchenAid as a quality product again much less purchase another of their appliances. I will advise others to look elsewhere when shopping for appliances! I have also filed a dispute with my credit card company in an effort to recover some of the cost we incurred.

This microwave oven is a replacement for the Electrolux that I previously owned. I would not own another because I had several issues before it totally stopped working. I have only owned this KitchenAid microwave for a few months but it's been great and has more features than I will ever use. It's also a convection air oven which I like very much even though we don't use that feature very much.

Have a two month old microwave that’s broken down twice. Two months old, called KitchenAid multiple times for service. After the last break down we contacted KitchenAid again. We wanted a replacement their defective product. But that is not their KitchenAid’s policy. Their policy’s is to send a repair person out and try to fix their mistakes. That’s until it’s out of their “1” year warranty. “DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY”. Forgot to mention, KitchenAid has a very rude customer service department. Our $600 KitchenAid microwave failed after less than 2 years. I spoke with customer service about repair, and was told that replacement parts are not made for this item as it's a "countertop" appliance. Was not marketed as such - was sold to me as an installed piece with a matching trim kit. I was told that I would just need to purchase another microwave given that I'm out of warranty. Very disappointing to discover that a seldom-used microwave that retails for that much money cannot be counted upon to last for 2 years. Sadder still that KitchenAid is not willing to stand behind their product by at least offering a discount toward the purchase of a replacement product. Based upon this experience, I will not purchase another KitchenAid appliance.

We moved into a newly built house and just as previous reviewer (Emma of Chester) we purchased KitchenAid appliances based on reputation and we prefer to buy American-made when possible. After 16 months of use, our microwave displayed error messages to open/close door and soon the microwave went black. We hadn't purchased an extended warranty because we expected a better product. Unlike Emma's microwave which had control panel on the bottom, ours is on the side. I feel KitchenAid cannot successfully design a venting microwave to install over a cooktop. For convenience we are replacing it with the same and an extended warranty for over $700. In the future we will always consider taking the extended warranty for any product. We had a service call on our new KitchenAid refrigerator after only 13 months.

The microwave was running even though no one was using it. I tried turning it off. I even opened the door but the thing keeper going. The glass plate was melting and a hole was burning through the bottom. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. My wife dialed 911 because we really expected a house fire. Like many other reviewers, we purchased high end KitchenAid appliances base on reputation. The steaming sensor was the only thing that ever impressed me. The fan never did much except make a lot of noise and the unit seemed underpowered compared to every other 1200 watt unit I've owned. At just over 2 years old (and just after the warranty expired) we started getting error messages directing us to open/close the door. That resolved nothing. I unplugged it and fiddled with different buttons and controls, got it to limp along for a few months. Then the appliance went black. The local appliance technician says it's a design flaw. The heat from the cooktop overheats the electronics that are in the door directly above burners. Most microwaves have controls in a side panel. $900 wasted.

I purchased a KitchenAid double oven, microwave and dishwasher between March and April this year. On May 24th, the day school was out for the summer the microwave stopped heating. I called customer service and they said that a replacement would be delivered soon. Called again on 6/5 as nothing had come as promised and was told I was just approved for replacement and that I would get it in another 5 to 7 days. Called today 6/13 and was told the microwave is on backorder and they are not sure when I will get it. No effort to resolve the situation. Other than, "I will talk to the expedite board and get back to you in 24 hours."
It is ridiculous to go without a microwave that you paid over $600 for and it lasted less than 60 days. I saw that the retailer I purchased the unit from has some in stock and asked the customer service rep to get one from them and get it installed this week. Rep had to get approval for it. Looks like I will get to go yet another week without a microwave. The way it has been going, I will have to call them again to get nowhere. DO NOT BUY KITCHENAID!!

I had an upscale kitchen remodel done and spent probably $75,000 on appliances. I purchased two KitchenAid fridges and microwaves and an under counter ice maker. To date the microwave has almost no power. I have a $35 microwave from Walmart that heats food three times as fast as my KitchenAid. I had service out in the first month because the microwave sounded like a jet engine. They replaced a fan in there and then I had it out again because it just wasn’t powerful enough and they said there was nothing they could do. The cost of the microwave was $2500.
One of the fridges randomly will just make this worrying waze. Who knows why. I don’t even want to call service man for that. And the ice maker has given us problems from the first six months. And now the ice maker has died. I would periodically have to unplug it and leave it for a day and plug it in and it would work but now nothing. I think that thing cost $2700. We did not buy these appliances at Lowe’s but at an upscale appliance store where they guaranteed me that it is a better quality than if you purchased a KitchenAid on the floor of a big box store. I would never purchase a KitchenAid appliances again.
I also have Wolf Appliance as a double wall oven and a large commercial stove. The double oven timer you can’t hear it and less you have your ear up against it. I had a service man out and he said there’s nothing you can do about that. The commercial stove one of the front electrical ignition switches doesn’t work that up and cost 50,000. It is insanity that these companies are in business. So poor quality and they don’t seem to care. I don’t even know if it’s worth it to have a service man come out and check my ice maker.

I am an electrician and repair appliances, I've kept all the appliances in my house going for many years by diagnosing and repairing them myself. I recently bought a condo which has KitchenAid appliances; a French-door refrigerator, a dishwasher, and an over-the-stove microwave. Although I am writing about the microwave as garbage, so is the refrigerator. The microwave is model YKHMS1850SS2. I knowingly bought the condo with this microwave, which is damaged, the door handle had broken off and the grill cover at the top has broken mounting tabs, thinking I could fix the damage at a reasonable cost which is not possible because Whirlpool, which owns KitchenAid, is replacement part price gouging. The parts are made of very cheap easily breakable plastic which probably cost Whirlpool very little to manufacture and look to be designed to break.
If I could, I would take the door apart and replace the handle but the handle is not available as a separate part, only the whole door which costs half as much as a new KitchenAid microwave is available so I currently use a cheap suction auto body dent puller stuck to the glass door until I get a metal towel bar which I am going to cut down to the right size and mount it with the microwave handle screws that are currently protruding from the holes in the door cover which will last the lifetime of the microwave's electronics.
The grill cover also costs quite a bit, the plastic mounting insert that fits in the stainless steel cover is not available separately so the two-part assembly also costs a lot of $$$ and is very wasteful because the stainless steel cover part, which is not damaged, will be redundant and dumped in the landfill. Instead of doing that, I am going to judiciously drill some holes in the plastic insert and use black tie-wraps to fasten it to the microwave. Kludged together but cheap and quick.
There's a big difference in the quality of appliances made in the 1970's and 1980's and now, the quality has very significantly declined and the price has significantly increased. In my house, I had a Maytag dishwasher, purchased in 1981, model WU300, which washed dishes very well and I kept it going by repairing it myself until about two months ago. It would still be running except the part needed is extremely hard to find. I replaced it with a Bosch dishwasher, probably made in the same US factory as Maytag/Whirlpool/KitchenAid. Ironically, just after it was installed and the old dishwasher was taken away I managed to find the repair part for it at an online used appliance parts supply for a very reasonable price. There really were "the good old days" for appliances.

I paid for high-end KitchenAid appliances because of the reputation of quality and service, and I've experienced nothing but the opposite; in 2 years, my refrigerator needed a cooling element replaced, my oven glass exploded across my kitchen (thank goodness my children were not standing there!), a heating element in my convection microwave needed to be replaced, and most recently a door switch in the microwave needed replacing because it was causing it to not operate. This last repair, I was out of the 2-year warranty by one month, and they are refusing to cover the $142 cost of the repair. They don't stand by their products. In 2 years, for the thousands of dollars we paid, nothing should go wrong with any appliances, let alone these many occurrences. And to not cover a repair being 1 month past warranty, especially with all of the other problems I've had, even just to save face, is ridiculous for such a large company.

Very well made microwave. Love that it matches the other appliances. It has so many features! From melting butter to baking a pizza on the pan that is included with the microwave. No problems as of yet in the 3 years we have had the microwave. It is stainless steel and looks pretty. The only slight improvement I would make, is it would be nice to have a flatter looking front. It reminds me of a spaceship with the way it bows out from the door front. But I do like that underneath it is angled up towards the front, so it allows for more working space on the stove top that it sits over. Over all I am really pleased with the purchase.

Bought this particular microwave based on looks and price. Turns out it's been a pretty good purchase and has outlasted all the others I've purchased before it. The mechanical bits are kind of a pain though: The door mechanism is "iffy" sometimes; and the wheels on the ring below the turntable aren't of good quality polymer... One chipped at some point and now it goes 'thunk, thunk, thunk' as my meal/drink/whatever is warming up.

We purchased a new home with KitchenAid appliances and from day 1, my wall microwave did not work and my stove malfunctioned. I called to register my products and was given a quote for an extended warranty (because apparently I am going to need it with these garbage appliances). I was told that they had to ship me some parts, which were out of stock and that I had to wait. After a month, I received the wrong part and called back. I was told the right part I needed was out of stock and had to wait again. After several weeks, I was told that they no longer made my microwave and that they would be sending me a new one. I was told that I could not get the extended warranty at this time because I would be getting a new microwave and if I bought the warranty now, I would have to pay extra to add my new microwave once it came.
After several more weeks, the microwave came in and it was a countertop microwave, not a wall microwave. Obviously, it did not fit in my wall cabinet so the installers had to make modifications for it to fit. This whole process took about 3 months to resolve and I did not have a working microwave. Next, my oven malfunctioned with an error code and it would not turn off. I called customer service again, armed with my extended warranty price quote because clearly these appliances have significant issues. I was told that it is common for the error code to appear on my double wall oven model and that I had to shut my power off and on for it to reset.
When I complained and said that it was unacceptable, I was told that it was an "unfortunate situation" involving these appliances and nothing could be done. I asked about my extended warranty, ready to shell out hundreds more on these appliances so that I could get them replaced when they break (which is clearly going to happen). I was told that the price had now gone up over 100.00 because it had been over a month since I registered my appliances. I told Jasmine, the call taker that I had a faulty microwave and had to wait months for a new one, so that is why I did not get the warranty when I first got the quote. She told me repeatedly that there was nothing that she could do and the quote was computer generated and she could not change the price. I asked for a supervisor and was told that Amber (supervisor) wanted me to know that she could not change the price either.
I have decided not to purchase the extended warranty on these products. I spent over $10,000 on my gourmet kitchen and now I am stuck with these expensive appliances that will no doubt breakdown again and again. For now, I will make sure my flashlight batteries are charged up so I can make the trip to re-set my circuit breaker each time my oven acts up. Thanksgiving should be especially fun.

The oven was set on self clean - something that is a feature on the oven... and it got so hot that it melted the computer panel that sits between the microwave and oven. I was unable to unlock the oven - the latch was completely bent from the heat. The repair company came out with a new latch but when they saw the damage they said the oven is reparable. KitchenAid completely washed their hands and told me there was nothing they would do. Their words "The self cleaning can surpass 500 degrees and can melt this area". So I ask you... then why put that feature into the system if it is going to ruin the oven? Incredible.

In my quest to contact Whirlpool (US), with perseverance, creativity, luck and detective work I received a telephone call from Whirlpool (U.S.) shortly after my initial review. A Whirlpool Executive (Mr. Chastain) was apologetic and took control and personal responsibility of my problem. Mr. Chastain arranged for a technician to service my microwave to my satisfaction and provided me with a full refund for all Whirlpool service charges (parts and labour). While I am grateful to Mr. Chastain for resolving my problem, it would be helpful if Whirlpool included direct telephone #'s (not a call center) and legit email addresses on their website for consumer SOS.

I purchased three new KitchenAid Stainless Steel appliances, which were delivered to our new home in late summer 2013. Installed by professionals. Issues surfaced with the microwave about one year later with an error message appearing in the window and the microwave not working as a result. Kitchen Aid technician (house call) advised window likely had grease build up and to clean daily. I complied but suspected this was not the problem, as the error message kept appearing and the microwave stopped working sporadically.
In July 2015 the microwave completely stopped working (now conveniently out of warranty). The technician who came (at my cost) advised computer board needed replacement (this was covered under major parts warranty) and ordered a new one. Two weeks later, technician returned....with wrong part! To add insult to injury, I paid for an incompetent service call!! The technician then indicated the part associated with my microwave is on "back order" from the U.S. and out of stock until August 15. What is the definition of "on back order" from the U.S. if the source comes from the U.S.? This did not make sense.
My attempts to contact KitchenAid led me to a Whirlpool U.S. call center which had no resolve. Surely if Whirlpool wanted to ensure good customer service, they could contact the source and have the part delivered by courier, particularly when their own technician erred. Nope. This is completely unacceptable "service". Whirlpool U.S. call center would not provide me with a department name/email address so I could follow up. Instead I was advised to 'write' my complaint (via Canada Post) and mail to Whirlpool in Mississauga, ON. Are they living in the 1950's?
I asked for my call to be escalated to manager. The call center indicated there was no department manager. Really? No explanation, no apologies, no problem-solving, no customer care. Sadly we depend on our microwave (independence for 2 disabled adults), notwithstanding the inconvenience and additional costs this situation has caused everyone in my household. I would never recommend a KitchenAid/Whirlpool appliance purchase. This company is not helpful or concerned with assisting their customers. Beware of KitchenAid/Whirlpool and save your money and aggravation.

Apparently, the rocket scientists at Whirlpool have decided we all want the vent fan to push heated or cooled air out of our homes the entire time our microwave runs. So the electronics they're using are so poorly designed they can't tolerate normal operating temperatures. Ovens like this have been sold for more than 30 years without the need to run the vent fan like this. Buyer beware!

Purchased this unit in 2010 with an extended warranty. The unit died in 2012 and was able to get it replaced because of the extended warranty. However an extended warranty was not offered to me on the replacement. The replacement was installed in November 2012 and failed to heat anything in 2015, approximately 2 1/2 years old. I called KitchenAid and spoke with their representative in Tennessee, I explained that this was the second microwave that failed in a two year timeframe. The lady was not very helpful. All she wanted to do was sell me a warranty or I could pay to have a technician come out and look at it. She advised me complaints on defective manufacturing are based on Service Technician calls since they did not have any for this Model then there is nothing wrong with it. I asked her why would 2 of the same units fail during the same time frame and KitchenAid would not recognize that something is wrong with the unit.
I told her I could buy a microwave for less than $100.00 and it would last longer than this model. She told me I should have bought an extended warranty. Apparently I am to blame because I did not get an extended warranty from them for $329.00. At this point she stopped listening to my questions and proceeded in a very loud voice which can be heard clearly from 3 feet away that KitchenAid stands behind their product and there is nothing wrong with that Model microwave because there have not been any complaints. I told her to search the internet. If KitchenAid sold quality products and stand behind their products why would there be a need for an extended warranty. Very, very poor customer service. Therefore if you buy a KitchenAid appliance buy a very long extended warranty because their items are not cheap and the warranty is not cheap also.

In 2007 I spent over 25K on KitchenAid appliances, one of which was a microwave convection oven that cost over $1700. In 2011 that unit failed because the heating element died. I was told by repair that it would be cheaper to replace the unit because even if repaired there was no guarantee it would last. No assistance from KitchenAid.
I purchased a second KitchenAid microwave oven. Three years later it failed...The heating element died. When I contacted KitchenAid after numerous posts on social media and emails, they agreed to pay for the part but I would have to pay for the service call, which I did. Nine months later and the heating element has died again. I contacted KitchenAid and their response after numerous social media post was to offer me the ability to purchase a new microwave at discounted rate. The offer was only good for 48 hours.
I did some research and found out that their discounted rate was the exact same price that the unit is sold at by major retailers. So now the company is being unethical by making me an offer that is supposedly below retail and asking me take a huge leap of faith and purchase a 3rd microwave? I feel like I have been taken advantage as I'm sure many other consumers have felt by KitchenAid's false advertising about the quality and workmanship of their product. My intelligence has been insulted by their feeble attempt to pass off the current retail prices for their units as special discounted rate that are being offered because of the issues I have had with my previous two microwaves.
No one should purchase their products if they are willing to operate in this unethical manner. No one should purchase anything from a company that will not stand behind their products. I guess I will contact the local and national news outlets. Hopefully one of these agency will pick up my story as lesson to other consumers who are in the market for new appliances.

Extremely dissatisfied with the KitchenAid product, warranty and customer service. I contacted them Feb. 5th 2015 to inquire as to the procedure to resolve an issue with the door of my microwave not opening. After a considerable time of answering questions, I was told that my unit was no longer covered under warranty. I then expressed the following info to the KitchenAid representative and offered copies of documentation:
1/31/2014: Ordered 1/31/2014: Deposit $5412.50 4/22/2014: $3252.91 final pay 5/15/2014: Appliances delivered 1/16/2015: Moved in 1/19/2015: Microwave installed by Vassar Electric 2/05/2015: Door would not open
Your representative stated that it did not matter, KitchenAid’s warranty is based on date of purchase (1/31/2014), not date of deliver (May 15, 2014) or the date of installation (1/19/2015). We were told by C&D Appliance that we had a deadline to order or the price would go up. We explained to them that we would not need the appliances for several months as the house was under total remodel. They said no problem as they would store them until we were ready so all the appliances were ordered at the same time and stored at C&D Appliance warehouse.
We get a call one day that they needed to deliver the appliances as they need more room in their warehouse so we stored them in our shop area. Little did we know at the time of purchase that the warranties started on the day we ordered them which was also the date of invoice. It cost me $660.33 to use the microwave for 21 days. I also have no warranty on the KitchenAid dishwasher, the Jenn-Air cook stove and the Jenn-Air refrigerator, all of which are product lines of the Whirlpool Corporation. Adding insult to injury, I filed a product review with KitchenAid that they REFUSED to post!

We purchased a KitchenAid stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and over the stove microwave three years ago. All stainless steel (except for the plastic parts that are colored to look like stainless steel). So far the refrigerator and dishwasher have not been a problem. In the case of the stove, I was very disappointed with the quality of the stove, particularly the drawer below the oven. You can't describe it as anything other than flimsy. I should have checked out the drawer in the showroom model, but who would think to do that. However the microwave Model YKHMS 1850SS2 is the biggest problem. Having read the other reviews I realize that my complaints are shared by many other customers and that they have not been successful in resolving their complaints with KitchenAid. The first problem was with the vent grill. As others have found the plastic grill is so poorly made it cracks and snaps when you tighten the screws to hold it in place. In fact I discovered beyond the warranty period that the grill was damaged on delivery.
Within the last month, the door handle, which looks like stainless steel but is in fact plastic literally broke apart under normal use. I was interested to read the reviews and learn that this is not an uncommon problem. I went online to see if I could get a replacement handle. Replacement handles are readily available for most microwaves, including earlier KitchenAid models at around $45. However, KichenAid will not supply a replacement handle for this model. They will gladly supply a new door for $350. This is unacceptable. Based on the many problems reported in the customer reviews it would be stupid of me to invest in a new door and then be faced with some of the other problems consumers have had with a KitchenAid microwave. We will replace it with a new microwave that is not a Whirlpool product. And we will never buy another KitchenAid stove, refrigerator, dishwasher or other Whirlpool appliance.

Buying warranties is something we don't do. However, we were spending so much on these 3 appliances and after reading the complaints on the oven and microwave, we did purchase the 5 year warranty on the oven and the microwave. Less than 18 months later, the microwave went out. The service guy has been out twice with a 3rd trip scheduled. I have been without my microwave for 13 days and it will be another 10 waiting for the parts. The worst part was being without it while needing to cook for 25 during Christmas, which is not something I'd expect to do with a microwave we've had less than 18 months.
Next time we buy appliances, I will read reviews before we purchase and I will not purchase from KitchenAid. KitchenAid doesn't care about their consumers who buy their products. (That is a story I'll need to write on our cooktop that we didn't purchase the warranty on.) There are other appliances out there with better reviews. The KitchenAid appliances look nice, but the quality is not there. Our last microwave that was over the oven was not even broken when we replaced it and it was 15 years old without ever having a service call. It was GE and was the microwave that came with the house. I then called again, and they sent Dan Marc Appliance Repair Company to service the microwave. As per the repairman, parts needed to be ordered. When they returned, a new door was installed and the technician heated a bottle for 10 seconds and it did work. That was the first and last time the microwave functioned properly.
After the one time use, I was cleaning the inside of the microwave and I cut my finger on separated metal. I called KitchenAid again; I was told to unplug the unit and they would send service repair, once again. When the repair technician came, he took pictures of the microwave and called KitchenAid. When I followed up I was told that they were going to send A& E Appliance Repair. On the day of service, A&E called and said unless we pay for the service call, they will not be able to repair the Microwave, which I refused to pay.
I called KitchenAid again and based on the pictures and information that the repair tech took, I was told that it was determined the microwave could not be repaired and that it would be replaced. They also stated I would receive a follow-up call in 5 days, and no one contacted me. I called again only to be told that it was more than 30 days and it was damaged and would not be replaced.
Let' move on to the Refrigerator. This required repair service to address this issue four times with over a dozen customer service calls. The refrigerator has an ice buildup issue in the freezer and water lies on the freezer drawer. Due to this, we were not able to open the freezer door at all. I then called KitchenAid and they sent a service repair technician for this issue. After the repair was supposedly complete, I opened the refrigerator to find water & ice cycles hanging from the top of the refrigerator. After one of the repairs, I called to tell them about the water in the Refrigerator. Customer Service transferred me to a special department that was handling this issue.
I was informed that KitchenAid has been aware of the problem and parts need to be designed to correct the problem. Apparently, KitchenAid is aware about this issue even before these appliances were sold. Meaning, Kitchen Aid knowingly sells faulty products to consumers. So when the parts were ready for installation I would receive a call. I was told to keep a towel handy to wipe up the water. This is absolutely unacceptable. For one of Kitchen Aid's newest line of appliances I shouldn't have to keep a towel handy for anything, especially brand new products. The refrigerator has had repair visits on August 12, 26, September 16, 30, October 12. I called again for service on October 15, 2013 and I have not heard from the repair company. Unfortunately, I am still having the same problem.
As for the stove, the grates on the range top are turning gray, the burns, caps & top are not able to come clean. Once again KitchenAid will not do anything because the product is more than 30 days old. The appliances I threw away that were 20 years old functioned better and were more reliable than these new Kitchen Aid appliances.
I am incredibly frustrated at this entire process and have been dealing this issue for over two and half months. For a brand new line of appliances from what supposedly is a trustworthy company I have spent countless hours on the phone with customer service and days waiting for repair technicians to fix my appliances. Yet, nothing is functioning properly.
I have spent over $4000 of my hard-earned money and waited over 25 years to re-do my kitchen and all I truly want is appliances that are reliable and function correctly. I am hoping that someone can help me; all I want is what I pay for working appliances. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need any additional information. Thanking you in advance.

I have a KitchenAid Model KHHC2090SSS-2 Architect series. I have an extensive experience with concerns regarding this model. I replaced it once under warranty because it was arcing, and finally died completely. A year later, the microwave began to start on its own. There is nothing like walking into your kitchen and finding out the your microwave started it, set the cook time for an hour, and had already been running for 6 minutes. I called KitchenAid, and they immediately sent me to their safety department. They offered to fix it free of charge. Well, 4 months after being repaired, it started doing this again. After investigating this more, I have learned that KitchenAid has this problem, and Consumer Reports did an extensive investigation. Other models are involved. Fires have occurred. Buyer beware - these microwaves are a huge safety hazard.

I have a brand new Kitchen Aid Conversion Oven/Microwave combo. The way the microwave is designed, you open the door down, like an oven, toward you. Thus, my child opened the microwave, took out some warmed milk, and spilled it on the door as he was getting it out. Some of the milk seeped in between the glass of the door. Apparently, there is no way to clean it! It looks terrible!
I called KitchenAid customer service and they told me this a "cosmetic issue" but a repairman could come and take the door apart for $129 to clean it! Clearly, this is a design flaw! Spills happen all the time with food preparation. The owner should be able to clean it themselves!!! There are no warnings about this in the instruction booklet. How is the consumer supposed to know they can't fully clean the appliance? Why isn't the glass sealed? I want the public to know about the design flaw in the appliance.

Not only will we never even consider this completely inferior brand, we will make sure no one we know ever does either. FYI, KitchenAid! Having purchased an entire kitchen of KitchenAid products, almost every one has broken - more than once. While the company repaired the dishwasher handle the first time it broke, they refused to fix the dishwasher door, which flops open dangerously. I paid over $100 to have it fixed. Now that the microwave, which comes on spontaneously, must be fixed, they've agreed to that, but not the handle that broke off or the faux-stainlesss/plastic vent cover that ironically fell on the floor days after the call. Turns out they now admit that the dishwasher door is a chronic problem and they'll cover it, but in astonishingly rude tones, refused to fully fix or replace the microwave, even though I have paid for defects they now acknowledge. Instead, they've invited me to buy a new vent cover at my own expense, investing additional money in their plainly substandard appliances. Or, I can buy a new KA microwave = at 15% off?! (To be clear, I would sooner set $649 on fire and use the flame to cook). Customer service is, at the corporate level, woefully rude and disinterested in customer satisfaction, seemingly having deaf and numb to their growing number of angry consumers. Amazingly, I visited a friend in L.A. who has the same appliances. And the same problems.

Our family has had problems with this microwave since we purchased in 2007. Realizing that recent history has proven manufacturers of some appliances cut overhead by skimping on parts made overseas, I assumed KitchenAid was a safe bet. I could not however have been more mistaken. I am what is considered a journeyman carpenter, mechanic, electrician and DIY'er. So I assumed, again, mounting our new microwave should not have been space shuttle science. I was shocked and surprised to see how fragile the front intake grill design really was especially coming from a "reputable" company such as KitchenAid.
If you're not extremely careful just mounting the intake grill where it's supposed to attach could result in undue stress to the plastic tabs and cause them to break. The operative word being plastic unfortunately, not the real metal it is made to look or function as. Why were these at least not reinforced? About eight months later the main control board started giving us grief. Sometimes it would lock up or beep for no reason and other times would work fine. We lived with that for some time until the handle broke after a year and a half of normal use.
By the looks of it, it seems the proximity of the heat from items being cooked caused it to crack mostly near the top where the handle is mounted, again causing stress fractures and ultimately causing the failure. I have been the sole provider for my family so money was something we can't be frivolous with. We've ended up having to unplug the unit due to issues with the main control board. I am now in the market for another microwave and I will not buy another KitchenAid product. Unfortunately for my wife who has to match styles (since the range is also KitchenAid), this won't be an easy task. I've always thought highly of this brand but I guess this new generation of people in manufacturing isn't what they used to be. Signed, DISSATISFIED CONSUMER.

The latest problem is the microwave runs with the door open! It happened earlier today. Then it worked fine, but it just happened again! We put something in and started it and then it timed out and stopped. We opened the door and it started running again. This is DANGEROUS! I have small children and the microwave is mounted below the counter! I don't want my children getting hurt by this hazardous device! We also put in a new control panel because the panel would not work. That’s when I replaced the cover. Today is June 14, and they put my new panel in. When the technician handed me the grill cover, one of the clips had broken again. I called customer service, and they told me they could not help me because the warranty had expired. I told her this was the second grill I had purchased. They are $113 plus change, and I will have to buy another one.
I told her I would like to talk to the President to tell how much trouble this product is, and that they need to fix it. I know $100 dollars to some people is nothing, but to me it’s a lot, especially if you purchase this all the time. My wife wanted KitchenAid because they were supposed to be the best. I remodeled my kitchen in 2004 with all new beautiful stainless KitchenAid appliances including a built-in $5000 fridge. The first thing that broke was the handle on my microwave right after the warranty ended - it couldn't be fixed without replacing the whole door, so I kept super gluing it till it finally blew in 2010 and couldn't be fixed. I replaced it with another KitchenAid microwave which was supposed to be comparable but it wasn't. It was my fault for not researching better, but it was Thanksgiving and I needed a new one immediately.
The next appliance to break was my stove (also within just a few months of warranty ending) - just one burner, but wow! Was it pricey, a $300 part + the labor cost - so far so good. The next appliance to break was my dishwasher about 9 months ago - it needed a new inner door panel - part was no longer made. I finally found one in California, but between the part, shipping, and installation - over $400 - it doesn't make $ sense. Now, my gorgeous built-in fridge is broken. First, I replaced the thermostat. It worked fine for 1 day. Now, they say it must be a computer board - which the part is no longer available. It can be rebuilt, but with no guarantees it will work - so $300 for the rebuild, $150 to reinstall. It's about 5-8 weeks estimate to get the part back - so there is no fridge during that time. It may be worth it as the replacement cost for same fridge today is $8,000.
I've got to say that the service repair people have been awful (A&E). They're either late, or don't show up at all, and, so far, the majority of repairs I've needed couldn't even be done. KitchenAid customer service is very frustrating. They love to tell you how sorry they are you are having these problems and are happy to set you up to purchase new appliances. I have 2 other refrigerators in my garage (thank God). One is a KitchenAid about 20 years old; the other is a 25+ year-old Maytag I think - neither of these have ever even needed a repair. What's up with newer appliances? Do they have a chip in them designed to break right after the warranty is up? I've started reading complaints not only for KitchenAid, but GE and others as well. It seems the consumer is just screwed as there are tons of complaints on all these manufacturers.
It's painfully obvious that I'm going to just have to replace all of these appliances very prematurely because of poor quality, design and workmanship, lack of replacement parts or rebuilding computer boards that have no warranties or guarantees. I'm researching to see if there are any alternatives, any appliance manufacturer that can give me any sense of getting my monies worth. So far, it doesn't look good ... but "for sure" I will not buy KitchenAid products nor recommend them. I will, however, be happy to share with my friends/family/whoever what a bad experience I have had with their products, the lack of quality, the high cost, and the poor service after the fact. Sign me "distressed, tired, ripped off." I almost forgot - my KitchenAid toaster also broke right after the warranty was out!

Because it is not accessible from the inside (as the two in over are), it is necessary to pull the entire unit out and disassemble the top third of the sheet metal cabinet. I finally, after researching for a few days and spending 4 hours taking things apart, got to the light bulb only to find that it is not available locally. I have found it online for almost $7 and an equal amount of shipping.
There is no reference in the documents from KitchenAid as to how to change a light bulb. It sounds like a joke, doesn't it? Believe me, I am not laughing. Perhaps the engineer who designed this mess should have to change a light bulb before the appliance goes on the market. If I had called a service man to do this, it would have cost near $100 to get this done! If there is a simple way to do this job, I would sure like to know about it for the next time. I am deeply dissatisfied with KitchenAid's customer service, in particular with their Whirlpool Factory Certified Care. In June of 2011, I called KitchenAid customer service about a broken spring for my microwave oven door. They recommended a local certified KichenAid appliance repair shop. I spent $411.67 on replacing one broken spring. Just eight months later in 4/2012, the spring broke again and cracked the glass on the door in the process. This time, the KitchenAid customer care recommended their new company, Factory Certified Care. I was unhappy about the spring breaking again so soon from the previous repair. And I was guaranteed that their own KitchenAid technicians, who only deal with KitchenAid products, provide a stellar repair service.
However, the repair took two long days, and the technicians used graphs, sketches to figure out how parts go together, without seeming to be the experts they promised to be. Nevertheless, after the replacement of many parts, I paid another $463.63. Only 53 days later, two screws came falling out, unhinging the door. What kind of poorly made parts, workmanship and quality of service renders screws falling out some short weeks after a service call? I called their customer service immediately relating this problem and found their representatives completely frustrating and unhelpful. I asked to speak to the supervisor twice, and they were equally unpleasant. They knew only to recite their 30-day labor guarantee policy. Even if the part (screws/ brackets that was replaced) was under warranty, I am looking at spending at least another $100 just to have someone put back two screws.
Furthermore, given my experience, what faith do I have that the screws they put back or other parts that they replaced/assembled recently won't be falling apart again just outside of the 30 days, rendering me to pay another sum for service call? I asked the supervisor why anyone in my situation would ever use their service again or purchase their products. They did not seem to care one way or another. There is absolutely no business that will thrive or sustain without reliability and a positive reputation. I spent two frustrating hours speaking with their customer service representatives to find myself at a dead end. I wrote to their customer service department to share this excruciating experience and never received a reply.

I'm on a mission to let everyone know how much KitchenAid sucks. They obviously have no quality control on their production. They have no ethics about making a quality product. About 8 years ago, we upgraded our kitchen and bought all new KitchenAid appliances. Since then, every appliance has had issues.
Microwave (KHMS155LSS), we've had to replace the face plates (all of them) at least once because the cheap plastic latches broke. Dishwasher (KUDS01FLSS), the spring holding the door has broken twice so that the door flies open and bruises any body parts in the way. Hand mixer (Classic Plus 5), less than 1 year after purchasing, one of the beaters separated (has been fine since we replaced it though). Stand mixer (KSM9O), the cover over the motor doesn't stay close and easily pulls open if you touch it.
Oven/Stove (Superba Range), the final straw, I was baking potatoes tonight and the oven shut off and locked shut with my potatoes inside. I cannot open the door. I tried all the things I saw on the internet and it's still locked with my potatoes inside. I'm going to replace it with a non-KitchenAid appliance ASAP!

I attempted to cook a baked potato in our KitchenAid over the range microwave (KHMS2040WSS). Please note that using the "sensor setting" was nothing new to me, I have used the "Baked Potato" sensor setting many times before with good results. This last time though went horribly wrong, the potato wasn't baked when I returned, it was charred to a black ash. It wasn't even recognizable as a potato. The microwave safe dinner plate that it was on had cracked into pieces and started to adhere to the glass rotating dish. The rotating glass dish itself fractured right at the center and the plastic pivot almost entirely melted. The white interior was stained dark gray with smoke soot.
I called Sears because the microwave is only 11 months old. Sears sent out an appliance specialist from A&E Service. The A&E technician performed a few tests and found the appliance was working properly and had not malfunctioned. The finding was that it was my fault as the consumer. My next call was to Whirlpool customer service at 1-800-253-1301. They were unable to help for two days because no report from A&E was available. Finally on day three, the office at 1-800-253-1301 called A&E and got the report. Then the Whirlpool representative stated they were not going to assist because it was found that the potato caught on fire not the microwave. I asked for a supervisor and was transferred to another office (I know it was another office because the toll free number changed to 1-866-640-7146). At any rate, after an hour long call which truly amounted to wheel spinning, the "supervisor" agreed to call A&E again to see if any other options were available. Much later that same day, he left a voice mail stating that Whirlpool would help with the cost of parts.
Ugh, I am so upset! The microwave is virtually new and I didn't choose how long to cook the potato, it was supposed to sense this and cook it accordingly. I have had $99 microwaves perform for years without incident. Then you really think that you are doing yourself a favor by branding "up" to KitchenAid and paying the extra cash for nothing. Has anyone else had this experience where the sensor setting overcooking something to the point of charring, smoke, fire etc? Have you contacted Whirlpool and if so, with what result? I feel that they should at minimum fully restore the microwave for no cost. Optimally, I would like to have a new microwave or a full reimbursement.

We just completed installing a new kitchen, with all new appliances, cabinets, wiring, etc. as of December 2011. On February 4, 2012 while cooking a single potato, we looked at the KitchenAid microwave (Model KHMS2040WBL-1 Serial #TR 1 25 10840) only to discover that it was filled with flames. We pushed the stop button and the flames went out. The instructions screen continued to flash "sensing, sensing" until I unplugged the device from the outlet. Upon cleaning the microwave oven, we found that the potato was reduced to a small pile of glowing black carbon, the glass turntable was blackened and cracked, the plastic spindle upon which the turntable sits was about 50% burned away, and the paint under where the potato had been sitting was burned down to the raw metal.
Reading the instruction booklet, I found that the device is supposed to sense when the food being cooked is giving off steam, and then shut itself off when no further steam is sensed. Obviously, this function failed.
I called the KitchenAid customer service line (1800-422-1230) only to be transferred to the "Safety Department" at Whirlpool, the corporate owners of KitchenAid. After explaining my experience, the representative Timika ** offered to send a repair service to my house. A repair person from A&E came, agreed that there had been a fire and told us not to use the appliance again, because of "consumer neglect". What the neglect is a mystery to me. In summary, Whirlpool has refused to cover the damage to the appliance even though it was manufactured in June 2011 and was still under the original warranty. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Consumer Protection Agency and the New York State Attorney General's Office of Consumer Fraud.
I am completely dissatisfied and angry with the Whirlpool response. They seem to want to avoid responsibility for (and resulting recall) a failure of the electronics board in this appliance. I have found the website ** which describes a class action suit over fires in KitchenAid dishwashers, also apparently due to failures in the electronics panel of those appliances.

My built-in microwave (KBMS1454SSS) stopped working properly while still under warranty. On advice from the KitchenAid customer service department, I took the microwave to the local "factory authorized" service center where I spent $234.85. I took the microwave back home and reinstalled it, but it still didn't work. I took it back to the local "factory authorized" service center and, after eight days, he told me there was nothing more he could do.
I called the KitchenAid customer service department again, and they said my only option was to get a second opinion which, of course, I had to pay for. They sent A&E factory Service to my house ($128 for a service call) and the technician ordered a part, came out two weeks later to install it, and that part did not fix the problem. After six visits (each of which I had to take off work and wait at my home for the repairman), the technician finally deemed my microwave "unrepairable. " He put that in writing and instructed me to contact KitchenAid for a replacement unit.
One month, twenty phone calls, numerous promises of call-backs, and several supervisors later, KitchenAid offered to replace my microwave (they called it a "pro-rated exchange") for $990. I explained that I had already spent $400 to repair the $1100 unit that I had, and that an additional $990 hardly seemed fair to replace a high-end unit that did not work. They agreed to drop the "pro-rated exchange" price to $468. I told them that us unacceptable and they said, "We're sorry, that's all we are prepared to do."
This is a very attractive unit and I thought I was getting the best when I bought KitchenAid, but after this five month-long process of trying to get my problem solved, I could not be more dissatisfied with the KitchenAid customer service department.

We were newly married and wanted appliances that would last for our new family. I had always thought that KitchenAid was top of the line and it would be worth the money. Boy was I wrong!
We completely furnished our house with stainless KitchenAid appliances and had problems with the fridge before we made our first payment. The Homecenter said they that they would get it fixed but before they got there to fix the fridge, the range quit working. They sent a service tech that I swear served me my Big Mac at McDonalds the day before. He worked on the appliances and damaged one in the meantime but denied it. The fridge continued to leak water and the dishwasher then also started to leak and get much louder with every wash. They brought me a new fridge that leaked worse than the one before so we resorted to just shutting the water off to the fridge. These problems persisted with the three appliances and I should have been more persistent but I was trying to be nice.
As soon as my 1 year warranty was up, the store would no longer talk to me and since then, our microwave starts and runs on its own (fire hazard). The only way to shut it down is to unplug it. The Homecenter and KitchenAid don't care about the consumer or there safety. We have put many calls in with no success. We have started to replace appliances with cheap China made ones that work great as we get the KitchenAid ones paid off. What really bites is we have to pay to get rid of the KitchenAid ones. So the best I can do is to advertise against KitchenAid as often as I can.

Do I have to give even one star? I would rather have neon or negative stars. I purchased the full range of KitchenAid equipment (microwave, dishwasher KUDS02VR and gas range, architect II). Fortunately for us, we also purchased the extended warranty even though I thought with top end equipment we probably would not need it.
The microwave has had multiple call outs over the 4 years of owning the piece: F2 errors, cooling fans that don't just turn on but partially start then stop then start for a second then stop and start for 10 minutes or so at a time. It's driving me nuts!
The dishwasher has trouble cleaning anything. It leaves dishes dirty and the glasses have developed white film on them. Dishwasher has gotten clogged and according to the technician because we have the audacity to use it . We now use dishwasher magic every month.
Range oven: First of all, the door lock keeps locking with an error when you use the oven above 400F and you cannot open the oven door until it has cooled down and you reboot the system by removing power, this you have to do multiple time before the door complies. We replaced locking mechanism, now it seems to work at last. Secondly, every time you use the clean oven function, the electronics go on the frizz. Now, we are without an oven again for a week while we get a technician to come again to look and hopefully fix the electronic issue.
Through all this (including digital movies of the issues, pictures etc., sent to KitchenAid), the general response has been that all equipment works as designed. Works as designed! They should fire the designers and send the specs to some elementary school kids who could do a better job!
I, for one, hate KitchenAid and will never buy another product from them again and will tell as many people as I can how lousy their products are.

I, like many of the already listed complaints, purchased a KitchenAid Microwave (Model KHMS155LSS-4) as part of a complete appliance purchase in 2006. I had the same issue last year that others have listed about the unit randomly turning itself on. After contacting Customer Service, they escalated my issue and immediately had it handled by the Safety Department that ordered a new control panel and sent out A & E to repair. The unit seemed to be working fine until this past week when it stopped heating food. Everything seems to run as normal but it no longer heats anything.
I contacted Customer Service today and nobody seems to care about the long repair history and lack of quality product they are producing. I'm concerned that the current issue is somehow related to the prior issue, but they will not acknowledge that to be the case. It has to be bad on a microwave that runs without anything in it for long periods of time, even though Customer Service says their biggest concern when it runs without anything in it is damage to the inside cook chamber. If I decide to repair this microwave again, it will be the third time this unit has been repaired since I purchased in 2006. I am disappointed with the constant problems I have had with this microwave.

I was using the "Convect Roast, auto mode, pizza," when it went out very near the end of the cook time; about 15 minutes into the cycle, it blew the fuse. We called and they scheduled service for 1-3-11. They replaced the fuse and said it worked.
On 1-18-11, it broke down again in the same mode. Service was scheduled for 1-20-11. They replaced the fuse and some other part, and they offered to extend the service warranty for one year. Good thing, 'cause it broke again and was serviced on 2-3-11. I asked for a replacement microwave; they don't want to do it, saying that it is more than a year old and is not covered.
It broke again and was serviced on 3-7-11. After much complaining, they agree to offer us a microwave replacement for $300. The new microwave was installed on 3-30-11. For some reason, I thought this would fix our problem. But we have the exact same problem on our new microwave.
It was first serviced on 10-5-11. They came back on the 13th to put in the new parts, and the service man declared it fixed. I ask that he run it in the pizza mode before he leaves. Guess what, it blows the fuse again. He called it in, and they want to put in another new part.
I am fed up. I want a microwave that works. I paid about $1000 for a new one and then paid $300 for a replacement, and I still have junk. The only offer from KA is to continue to service it. I want my money back for the replacement and a microwave that works for more than a month without breaking. However, two weeks ago, we set the timer (no heat setting) for 40 minutes and in about 25 minutes, I noticed a burning smell. We know the microwave itself was not on. I followed the smell and it was clearly coming from the microwave and getting more smelly by the minute. I did not check the controls read-out, I just quickly opened the door to see what was going on.
The interior was full of smoke and the center of the glass tray had turned black. Once the smoke/heat cleared, we found that the center of the glass tray was in fractures, practically a hole. The plastic trivet below had melted onto the bottom of the interior. We want to know why the microwave started up when only the timer was set. I see no other similar complaints about this model and we are just beginning to work it through with an NSI Protection Plus service vendor. It seems to clearly be some sort of malfunction. Initially, the vendor is saying "the interior overheated" so it's not a warranty covered issue. I called KitchenAid since the microwave was less than four years old and was what I thought to be top of the line from a reputable company. On the first visit, while working on the microwave, the technician sold us a service warranty for $40 adding that there would be no additional charges other than the $129 service fee and that he would have the microwave running again. He said that he found the issue, ordered the parts, and was going to come back a week later to perform the service work.
He returned a week later and installed the parts but the microwave still did not work. While working on this, I heard him make a phone call to his manager. He called me into the room to let me know that the service plan he sold me was not good. They were going to refund my $40 and the work he had done on the microwave was about $388. If i wanted to get the microwave working, he could go further but I was responsible for the cost. I requested that he remove the parts he installed and let him know that I did not want the $40 back as I would be checking into why the service plan was not covering this.
After numerous phone calls to A&E, they stated that since the microwave was not working at the time their technician sold me the protection plan, they could not cover the problem. I did not ask for the protection plan, he sold it to me. To make a long story short, I contacted KitchenAid--talk about not caring. We had the electronic range control and the touch pad replaced within the first year. They were covered under warranty. The same problem occurred this month and KitchenAid (Shari) will do nothing to remedy the problem. The cost to repair the range will be well over $450.00 if we have a technician do the work.
I spoke with Shari from KitchenAid and she was not the least bit supportive or apologetic. She kept saying that it was no longer under warranty and there was nothing she could do. They have very poor customer service given my ongoing appliance issues. She was well aware of my appliance issues but was not at all concerned or helpful in providing assistance. We paid more money for the KitchenAid appliances than what we could have spent on other brands because we thought that we were getting premium appliances (definitely not so). Paying more does not mean that they are better!
I will never purchase another KitchenAid product and will share my experience with others. They have horrible customer service and poor overpriced products. Shame on them for taking advantage of consumers and not providing a product that stands the test of time. Meanwhile, last Saturday I went and ordered a wall oven. I figure 3 ovens are better then 1. But unfortunately, that isn't in stock either. And I did not buy a KitchenAid piece of **! We own a KitchenAid microwave-hood combination (model KHMS155L) that is less than 5 years old. Like the hundreds before me, it started operating on its own, locking and unlocking itself and beeping. It, too, showed an error code of F2. I called KitchenAid and claimed this as under the 5-year warranty. To their credit they arranged for a technician to come out (at my cost of $49). Sure enough the control panel has to be replaced. That will cost an additional $161 in labor. KitchenAid did authorize and are willing to pay for the part; however, I feel this is a defective product and this oven panel should have been recalled. I plan on taking it up with them again after the repair is completed. The cost for the consumer is $210 if KitchenAid authorizes the part.

I had to unplug it for fear of fire. The company we bought it from came out and checked it and said it needed a relay, which costs $242 plus service call. Over $300 for a microwave that costs $500. It was a combination convection oven/regular oven. I never used the convection part, but you always heard the noise as if we were using the convection oven. Now the microwave is acting up. It seems this particular model is prone to starting up all by itself. The model number is KHMS155L. We had the KitchenAid recommended repair person out and he was able to boil a cup of water in a minute and a half and he pronounced the microwave within tolerance. However, this week, the display kept changing from clock to the time of day and beeping like crazy. Then it would get an F2 error. I called the company and they told me to call one of their "authorized" service people. Repair Service quoted $261 plus tax to fix. Stated they believe it is the "control panel" that has the issue. I paid $273 for this unit. Does it really make sense for them to charge the same amount to fix it?
I asked KitchenAid to send me the parts and I would have a handy family member fix it for me. They said federal law prohibits them to ship parts to the consumer. So now, this unit ends up in the trash, along with all the other ones like this one that I've read about. Such a waste that this unit only lasted 4 years. We purchased a KitchenAid Built-in Electric Oven/Microwave/Convection in 2005 (Mdl. KEMC308KSS04). Cleaning the oven after each use eliminates the need to use the self-cleaning feature. Recently, I chose to use the self-cleaning feature for the first time which I interrupted the full cycle because the wood cabinetry surrounding the built-in oven became alarmingly hot. I called KitchenAid 800-807-6777 after not response from their website KitchenAid.com.
Initially, it was task in persistence to get by the intake rep who insisted I would talk with her that there was no technical support dept. I reluctantly acquiesced to her demand. After explaining my concerns of the high heat being emitted, she began to read from the Use and Care Guide which I had already thoroughly gone through finding nothing that addressed the issue I was calling about. Her reply to my escalating concern, "Well, ovens do get very hot". I insisted on talking with her supervisor which resulted in a 5 minute wait only to have same rep return this time with information that there had been complaints of this nature, asking me if the oven had it's own fuse (my answer Yes) Had the fuse been tripped (my answer No). Are the heat vents blocked (there are 2 front vent (my answer No).
At this point, the rep put me through to Quality Control and an appointment was scheduled to come out to check if the oven was working/installed properly at no charge. The tech was promptly scheduled. I explained the problem/concerns. The tech checked the panel controls, the vents (workingproperly). The tech also explained the safety features of the oven. If it gets more than 800 degrees, it will automatically shut down, a safety fuse will blow which has to be replaced in the model I have (some have resets). The tech came across as very knowledgeable and for the moment calmed my concerns. The vents direct the heat out and down blowing the hot air onto the cabinetry drawers. This is the area as well as the cabinet panel immediately adjacent to the drawers that are my concern. The full cleaning process was not carried out by the tech, therefore, my description of how hot is what the tech had to work with.
My concerns resurfaced as I read the comments on the work order that don't reflect the real nature of the problem (Problem identified as Cabinets are hot in self clean) it is the wood cabinets surrounding the oven. And, intervention (advised customer of features of self clean/blower fans and safety fuse. It seems to me that the safety feature measures the interior temp of the oven. Does it reflect and react to exterior temps of the oven? After reading customer complaints, I am inclined to think it does not. What is the responsibility of the manufacturer for what I am perceiving as a defect in design that could potentially be a safety issue.

We purchased a KitchenAid Superba Microwave and wall oven unit (KEMC308KSSO) in 2005 when doing a kitchen remodel. The unit has a drop down microwave door that matches the oven. The problems started when we would remove hot items from the microwave while wearing a long sleeve shirt, sweater, bathrobe, etc. There are two plastic pins that stick up on the door when it is open. These I believe are used to trigger a switch when the door is closed to allow the oven to be used. Well, these plastic components catch on your sleeves causing hot liquids of foods to be spilled onto the door and all over your hands or body.
After this occurred several times and with family and friends, we phoned KitchenAid. They first wanted to know if there were any injuries that warranted trips to the doctor or hospital. When we indicated that the injuries were treated at home, we were told that there were no such incidents on file and therefore not KitchenAid's problem. They told use since it did not pertain to a defect, it was not a warranty issue (We have the extended warranty from KitchenAid). Shortly after this, we were removing a very hot casserole from the microwave oven while wearing a pair of oven mits (no long sleeves this time). One of the mits caught on the plastic pins causing the casserole to crash on the floor with glass and hot food exploding everywhere.
Completely disgusted with this design flaw, we again called KitchenAid. They scheduled a service tech to come out and take a look at the problem. The tech arrived and declared that there was no problem or design flaw and that we should be more careful and not wear long sleeves or oven mits or anything that might catch on the plastic pins and that was all he was going do. When we called KitchenAid back complaining that this was not satisfactory, the rep got rude and basically said we were OL. Angered by this, we later began shopping for a new wall oven and microwave.
The sales person at the store not knowing about our experience first showed us the same unit of KitchenAid but the newest model. Lo and behold, the new model no longer has the dangerous plastic pins. The door is smooth without any protrusions. When we returned home, we called KitchenAid and informed them of our findings and that we wanted a new model without the dangerous protruding pins. The rep actually laughed at our suggestion and quickly told us that we were welcomed to buy the new safer model at our expense and that the model we have was only dangerous due to operator error and operator error was not covered by the warranty.
Because of a recent family health crisis, we have not been able to afford replacing the $3,600 unit. We do not allow anyone but the two adults to use the microwave. Visitors, short people and anyone wearing clothing covering their arms are never allowed near the unit. We now use flat hot pads (with hanging loops removed) instead of mits when removing hot items from the oven. Based on our experience with KitchenAid and its products (of which we have many), we will never purchase another KitchenAid (Whirlpool) product again. We are also vocal advocates against KitchenAid/Whirlpool whenever we find a forum.

The KitchenAid appliances that we purchased have been nothing but trouble and have cost money for repairs. They are defective! A microwave should not quit working 2 times in less than 4 years! The oven should not break down 3 times in 3 years! They have very poor customer service. They are not covered under warranty! We replaced all of our appliances with KitchenAid, thinking that these were superior appliances.
We have had repeated problems with the oven and microwave. Every time there is a power outage, the oven locks springs and this prevents the oven from being turned on. And the hinges are not aligned properly which does not allow the oven door to close properly, which greatly affects the oven temp. We replaced the hinges and paid for replacement of the electronic panel 3 times to the tune of over $500.
Even after replacing the hinges, the oven still did not close properly. Finally, we spoke with a customer service rep on an unrelated matter. When he asked if there was anything else, we explained the horror story. He told us that this all should have been covered and that he would send service to fix it properly. And cross your fingers, it seems to be working well at this time. But forget about the previous $500 that we spent and it was not even fixed properly! Now on to the nightmare of the microwave, 2 times in less than 4 years the Magnetron has gone out, resulting in $400 worth of repairs! These are defective and inferior products! We have a KitchenAid wall mount oven and microwave (Superba Built-In Electric ConvectionOven) that was installed when we built our home in 2006/2007. Unlike the stand alone KitchenAid oven that we had in our previous home for 9 years, this one does not have a cover over the temperature probe connector. As a result, or so we have been told by several repair persons, particles generated during cooking are free to flow into this female connector and "gum" it up. When that happens the oven senses a probe being present and won't allow you to continue cooking without entering a probe temp or removing the probe - which is rather difficult to do when there is no probe in the connection.
We have been told that KitchenAid is aware of the problem, but refuses to fit an adaptor cap that would solve this problem. Superba is a misnomer for this oven. We will be replacing our KitchenAid in the near future and, I can assure anyone concerned, that we will not now or ever purchase a KitchenAid again. I hope this makes the rounds so that others can also boycott this company with extremely poor customer service.

The KitchenAid microwave that I bought, model KHMS155L, has become a safety hazard. It starts all by itself in "pan" mode. It also started by itself with F2 on the display. Luckily, we were at home when it happened. I believe that if we had not turned it off, it could have very possibly started a fire. The microwave was very hot and getting hotter. It is now unplugged and useless. At the very least, KitchenAid should issue a recall on this dangerous product. Better, they should issue a recall and refund the money. I paid top dollar for what I thought was a superior product. Hopefully, some of our consumer protections will come into play.

On May 30, we purchased nearly $9,000 worth of KitchenAid appliances for a kitchen remodel (fridge, dishwasher, cooktop and oven/micro combo). The appliances were installed June 30. On August 22, the microwave quit. It looks like it's working except nothing gets hot. On Monday, August 24, I called KitchenAid. I was told A&E Factory Service would be here between 8 and 5 on August 31 (that's one week). I took the day off and they called at 1 in the afternoon saying they couldn't make it until Wednesday, Sept 2 (9 days) again between 8 and 5.
I called KitchenAid to complain and they said they didn't have any other service people for this area and Wednesday was the first day they could be here. I agreed to that and when I went to write it on my calendar, I noticed I had to take my mother to the doctor that day. I called to reschedule and was told Sept 9 (16 days)! So for my $3,200 purchase, all I get is "I'm sorry" and the repairs will be done on Sept 9. We've gotten less than two months service from this microwave. I will never purchase anything else with the KitchenAid name.

Microwave/Range hood KHMSLSS155. I purchased it 3 years ago. The cover panel over the microwave has fallen off so much I can't get it to stay on. It is held on with plastic tabs that have disintegrated. I shudder to think of the replacement part cost (if there is a replacement part). We also had to replace the control panel after 2 1/2 years, circuit board was fried. Other than the dishwasher, KitchenAid makes junk. I would never buy it again and badmouth them every chance I get.

We have the KHMS155L microwave hood. It starts by itself in pan mode. We were lucky we were home. The unit got extremely hot. Not programming the clock does help. It's not a safe product. We will be replacing it (not with a KitchenAid).
