About American Home Protect

American Home Protect offers a home warranty plan that helps offset the cost of covered home repairs. The company’s base warranty offers coverage for both home systems and appliances, but you can also choose from additional coverage options to tailor the warranty to your specific needs. As long as your home systems and appliances are well maintained and in good condition when you purchase the plan, their age doesn’t matter.

Pros
  • Unlimited repairs
  • Covers appliances and systems
  • Low deductible
Cons
  • No upfront plan pricing
  • No online claims portal

What is American Home Protect?

American Home Protect is a home warranty company that offers coverage for certain appliances and home systems. These include but aren't limited to your home’s heating system, refrigerator, air conditioning, washer, dryer and ceiling fans.

American Home Protect only has one plan: the Premiere Coverage Plan. However, you can add protection for things like spa equipment, swimming pools and garage door openers.

When a covered item breaks down, you can contact American Home Protect to have a local technician sent out. American Home Protect will cover the repair bill (up to any contractual limits), and if an appliance can't be repaired, it will be replaced.

An American Home Protect warranty lasts for three years. This warranty term is longer than the industry standard, though longer home warranty contracts often come with additional savings.

American Home Protect plans and coverage

The American Home Protect Premiere Coverage Plan covers your:

  • Kitchen refrigerator
  • Built-in dishwasher
  • Built-in microwave
  • Cooking range/oven/cooktop
  • Garbage disposal
  • Clothes washer
  • Clothes dryer
  • Ceiling fans
  • Water heaters
  • Central air conditioning or cooling systems

  • Electrical system
  • Handyman services (in select states)

You also have the option to add coverage for the following items:

  • Free-standing freezer
  • Free-standing ice maker
  • Spa equipment
  • Swimming pool
  • Plumbing
  • Central vacuum system
  • Garage door opener

How much does American Home Protect cost?

Home warranty costs can vary significantly depending on where you live, the size of your home and what you need the plan to cover, and American Home Protect does not list starting prices on its website. However, you can contact the company for a quote.

In the event of a claim, you can expect to pay between $35 and $65 for a service call. There are some instances where your cost could be higher, though, so you should carefully read through your contract before purchasing your home warranty.

When an unsolicited letter arrives with SECOND NOTICE stamped in red, it is misleading and obviously a scam. How stupid do you have to be to do business with con men?

I received a pink letter that another consumer mentioned. The entire verbiage warranty will expire soon 2nd notice blah blah... Says it will LAPSE on the 23rd. Spoke to a Rick. He says it shows in the system on Feb 3rd! To get it reinstated I would need to pay $110.03 Automatic 🚩!!!!! My spider sense says hmmmm something seems a bit off. Told me everything that would be be covered, plumbing, electrical, lawn care service. I told him I'll get back with him NOT! After reading these reviews I was spot on about these folks. God's protection always a blessing.

I bought a house and had a one year American Home Protect warranty. Within three months, the following appliances stopped working: 1) Central Heating and Air 2) dishwasher, and 3) refrigerator. All claims were denied by American Home Protect warranty. I paid for replacing all three appliances myself. I WILL NOT renew my contract with this company. This contract misrepresented information listed in the policy. I considered this fraudulent advertising.

DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY! American Home Protect is a terrible company. They are a scam... They denied my sick elderly mother's claim for a new refrigerator after she had been paying them monthly for 8 years and had never filed a claim before this one. Their solution was for me to pay an electrician to come look at the refrigerator and then resubmit the claim. So incredibly disappointing.

I paid over $3,000 for insurance and I never received $1 back in reimbursement. They will not pay. Nothing personal, just business with truth. Home Protect is fraudulent and they will pretend they never received certified vouchers verifying what I paid. They are mad about this review. RipRock is their new company.

Don't waste your time or money. I have been paying $62 a month for 9 years now. Called because I returned home from traveling to a leaking AC soaking my guest bedroom carpet on a Saturday. So of course I had to wait till Monday to hear back. The agent said a tech would be out and to look for an email once they have located one to service my AC. The technician came and identified there was a blockage to the PVC pipe causing the leak. He removed the blockage but a day later I heard a motor constantly running and it was the AC unit. I called the technician back and they said they would come back that Friday and he never showed. I reached out to the technician again and he apologized because he had COVID and arranged to return as soon as he was better. He did but he checked the unit and said there was nothing he could do and that he'll contact American Home Warranty/Porch to report back the issue.

A few days went by and I reached out to him by text and he said that a representative said they'll contact me but they never did. I called American Home Warranty/Porch and they said they had no record of a call so I contacted the technician and gave me the name of the representative he spoke with and that said they'll contact me. At this point it became a back and forth. I continue to call American Home Warranty/Porch and they attempted to start another claim when I was well within the 30 days of the original claim. I finally got a representative to get me to the team who schedules and located technicians. The girl laid it on thick of how bad this was and she was sorry and this happens all the time when customers are still within the date of the original claim and that we are told to contact the company with issues and not the technician.

This is just the company's way to get more money and customers to exceed their claim limit. She placed me in home to contact the technician to let him know they needed a diagnostic and she stated he would get it over (Friday) and that if she didn't have it over by noon on Monday she'd contact him. I called back that Thursday and they had no record of the conversation or request. Not having records has now become a running theme when calling in for support. I got another representative who said they also worked with the team to get a technician out and because of the run around. I called back 3 days later just to check on the status of the technician request and the next representative didn't understand what I was asking for and was trying to place another claim after I told him I was checking on “an ongoing claim.”

He said it still wasn't 72hrs and I told him I knew and that I was checking back because this is now going on 2 months and it's either there's no record or we're still looking for a technician. He transferred me to a representative who locates and schedules the technicians and she apologized and said with such urgency in her voice “this is unacceptable and I will be getting a technician immediately." Come another week I hear nothing and I call in and explain I was waiting on the status of the second technician and there was no record and I requested a manager but there was none and they'd have to call me back. I have learned to avoid direct contact with clients this company calls from a SPAM HIGH RISK TELEMARKETING number. With newer phones they have spam blockers set up already to stop numbers like these.

The representative's call was routed to my voicemail and I called the number back (**) and asked to be transferred to him. He claimed I was on the phone and was busy which I was not, my phone's designed SPAM blocker did what it should and I asked why do they have a HIGH RISK TELEMARKETING number contacting clients. He claimed he didn't know and that he had a manager but now couldn't get one but I should get an email from a representative on the scheduling team and a call from a manager. Come today I saw no email or a call, so I called and the automated system stated 2 callers were ahead of me then after holding it asked to press 1 if I wanted a call back to my number or 2 for another number to be contacted. I thought it was strange and selected no number and the call disconnected.

I called back and it happened again but I selected 1 and was verifying my number then a representative picked up the call right in the middle. I told her what happened and that I needed a manager. She tried to get one but they were in a meeting and were to call me back, this was in the 11am (CST) and a whole day has gone by with no call.

My mom asked what was happening and she asked the company's name. She was quick to say she had American Home Protect centuries ago and dropped them for the very things they are doing now. She said they're all in for small jobs but the bigger the jobs they don't want to handle and don't want to talk to you. I work from teaching, leading meetings, etc and to be in 90 degrees in your home because it's the only place you can work for 8hrs more is frustrating. This has been going on since the end of August and it's now mid October and morning and night temperatures are about to drop. I didn't know if I'll even have heat.

American Home Protect LLC is a scam. They take your money and then they screw you around until you give up. Had policy for less than 6 months, paid one year in advance. When I needed my HVAC fixed they screwed me around and they would not do anything then they say they need maintenance records, they always have an l. I want my money back and they refuse. Talking to Maryland state's attorney. Better Business Bureau was a bit of a waste.

Truthfully I was flat out lied to by the sales representative, won't mention any names. I was given false information, he made it seems like it was only 2 payments of 198.00 a month and I would have coverage for 2 to 3 years. He also misled me lead me to believe other services were included at no additional cost like tree trim hedge and grass services. So mislead, very disappointed and feel like I was taken advantage of. Stay far away from this one. In addition, there was an accident in my kitchen where I needed to replace my stove and microwave. Mind you I didn't even know I had this insurance upon my purchase of the home. So I went ahead and purchase new appliances. The representative told me I can still submit a claim and get reimbursed which that turned out to be a lie. Yeah no good reviews here.

American Home Protect is amazingly great. I called and asked them if I should cancel the person that I was gonna have an appointment with. They said, “No. We sent a refund to take off what the other one cost you.” I was thrilled. The company came and they worked on my bathroom. They didn't charge me because it was only the little thing that went down that held the water and the stopper part of it. They said, “They use cheap parts, so all you have to do is unscrew this, take it to Lowe's, tell them you want another one of these, and just screw it back in.” I called American Home Protect to tell them that there would be no charge and they didn't have to send me a refund.

I'm glad I'm with American Home Protect. One other time, I was using my dryer and I opened the door to put stuff in. When I shut it, there were sparks coming out from the plug area. The fire department said, “Do not plug this in until you had it checked again.” I had it checked and they said it was fine. I was so happy that they went to all that trouble. I also got in the mail $250 to replace it for the cost. I was happy about that.
