    It was a waste of time and money. She did not truly listen to me or help me with what I was there for. I wasted over an hour of her asking the same questions then hyper-focusing on one of my issues instead of the whole picture and the primary reason I made the appointment. I was afraid I wouldn't be heard, and she confirmed my fears. I even told her that was one of my worries and that I just needed someone to hear me. In the end, it was made clear she wasn't going to help me. They got paid to make me feel worse and less hopeful than before my appointment.

    First and foremost the Psychiatrist I was put with is outstanding and I love working with her, Talkiatry itself is a complete nightmare. The detachment from help staff to medical records staff make it impossible to get your information no matter how many times you contact them or fill out forms. The bureaucracy I’ve encountered is the exact reason that healthcare in this country is so expensive. I’ve heard, "Oh yeah we’re getting your records to you," over 20 times in 30 days. Now it’s not even worth the hassle at this point despite having a good doctor.

      Talkiatry Fraud. I had one meeting online in 2025 with a psychiatrist from Talkiatry.com. Their website said that with most insurance the total paid by the consumer is around $30. I have Medicare. The total bill was $710 for a 54 minute visit! Later they emailed me that the visit was 57 minutes. Talkiatry wants me to pay over $200. They had 2 billing codes: One is “a virtual visit with a clinician to evaluate your condition, provide a diagnosis, talk about using medication for treatment.” $460. Two is “psychotherapeutic techniques like supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation or cognitive behavioral therapy”. $250. I never received any therapy at all in code two. In code one it was only “evaluate your condition”. I never received a diagnosis, psychological help or a prescription of medication.

      The psychiatrist was cold, acting like I was a criminal. I later found out he is a Forensic Psychiatrist. He did not help me at all. He kept repeating the same questions over and over. He asked if I had any surgeries. I said I broke my arm as a child (age 8) when I fell down running. He asked over and over if I had surgery or not on my arm. I said I did not know. I only have a few memories from that incident. What does my broken arm have to do with me now? I am in my 70s.. The psychiatrist was 10 minutes late for the appointment but I still got billed for that time. Talkiatry is deceptive and unethical in their advertising and billing. Their customer service is poor. I contacted them by phone and email with no help in the fraudulent billing. I asked customer service to watch the video of my visit with the psychiatrist to prove I never received anything mentioned in Code 2. They refused.

      The doctor was not comfortable treating situational anxiety. She admitted being fearful of prescribing controlled substances due to regulations. She therefore over-treats situational anxiety, even if symptoms are only experienced once weekly, with unnecessary long term SSRIs and SNRIs. She was willing to prescribe an anti-psychotic (**) rather than a ** as the former is not a controlled substance. Her only options for treating situational anxiety are ** and **. If neither of these work she automatically commits you to a long term medication with its associated side effects. Talkiatry makes cancelling appointments VERY difficult.

      My current telehealth provider has gone out of network with my insurance so I was looking for someone in network to take over management of my ADHD meds. My medications and health conditions were all disclosed prior to the appointment and again at the beginning of the appointment. This woman talked to me for an hour before disclosing that she’s not “comfortable” prescribing my current ADHD med because of another medication I take. All of that was disclosed to her prior to wasting an hour of my time asking me very personal questions when she knew the whole time she wasn’t going to meet my needs. They billed my insurance over SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for some kind of interview that ended with them declining to treat me. Total scam.

      I tried for weeks to get an appointment with them for meds management. They cancelled my appt 4 times. When I would call they would say I cancelled the appt which was not true. Customer service is awful. They only know partial English and I couldn't get them to understand what I was say and I could understand what they were saying. Were never helpful at all. I was a new client and I was forced to call them to reschedule every time my appointment was cancelled. It wasn't one provider. I tried to change the provider to see if that was the problem but it wasn't. I would not recommend them at all.

      Talkiatry is extremely dangerous. Do NOT use it! I had a psychiatrist appointment where she proceeded to tell me I had all these horrible things and that my meds were really bad. Ok, then what?? After telling me all these distressing things about myself, she said they couldn't be helped online and really needed to get help. She then proceeded to tell me that the Talkiatry team would read her review her recommendations and reach out to me with suggestions and resources. Well, that took 9 days and it was a generic, everyday letter that said thank you, contact your insurance and good luck. It was a horrible experience. Do yourself a favor and see a real psychiatrist.

      I had taken the day off for my appointment as I’ve never done this before. Talkiatry sent me multiple emails and texts telling me to get ready for my appointment. My appointment was for 8:30 am and log in 10 minutes early to be ready and don’t leave the page as there might be connection issues. After 40 minutes of waiting they texted me, which I had to leave the page to view the text, that my Dr. was going to be late. After waiting 1.5 hours I got a text saying my appointment was canceled. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

      I initially had a GREAT experience. I was able to get my anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder managed with medication that didn't have any side effects for me. Empathetic doctor. Easy scheduling. My doctor went on maternity leave and I needed to see a new doctor. He informed me that Talkiatry doctors can not treat anyone who uses Ketamine treatments and ceased my service. This drug is already stigmatized. It saved my life. I am not going to stop my treatment, which I've been doing for five years. I'm SO SAD and devastated. Absolutely no room for any empathy from them.

      First things first, technical issues. I couldn't log into my account because someone put my name or birthday in wrong. Tech support was able to help with this, but it was frustrating (to say the least). Also, for the appointment, you can only use certain browsers or the app, and even using those, the connection was terrible and we kept having extremely disruptive technical issues. Second. I see here on the "cons" list that they don't treat mental health crises. Apparently they don't treat you if you've *ever* had a mental health crisis. They refused to see me when I disclosed my full history including an incident that happened ten years ago--not exactly relevant to my current mental state. They stated that I would need to see an in-person psychiatrist, and when I asked why, the answer didn't really make any sense. "They would be able to provide more immediate emergency support."

      I will reiterate, the information that caused them to make this decision was about an incident from *TEN Years Ago*. Policies like this are actively harmful to patients; we don't all have time to see someone in person (and in-person doctors that take insurance are much rarer), and so the logical result is that people in my position are simply going to find a different doctor, and then omit information from their history. Which obviously won't help anyone because then the doctor won't have the full picture of the patient. But policies like this encourage that, they *don't* encourage people to go way out of their way to put themselves in a position to be forced into hospitalization (which is a whole other issue).

      I will note, I doubt this is the fault of my individual doctor. It looked like she had a checklist she was running down that made it practice policy not to treat certain people. Awful. I got a follow up email referring me to all sorts of emergency services; like I said, no longer relevant. It's quite condescending. Other issues include: The system for matching you with a doctor is really bad. I had put in certain parameters, and the list of doctors I got to choose from did not meet all my categories. In the end I was given one option that met my needs, so I managed, but it doesn't make sense to ask what your requirements are and then offer options that don't meet them.

      They say their office hours are standard local business hours, but the language and typos suggest that the people you're communicating with are not located locally. Maybe they are; I doubt it. Seems more likely they want to pretend that they are. Also, some of these communications are just silly. Over email, I was asked to confirm my identity by providing my email. Hello??? All in all, skip Talkiatry. There have to be better options out there.
