    I had an extremely disappointing experience with Talkiatry and would not recommend this service. I scheduled an appointment seeking professional mental health support and expected a provider who would listen to my concerns and help me explore my options. Instead, I left feeling unheard, dismissed, and saddled with a $442 bill that I still owe for a single appointment. I asked several times about the cost and was told, “don’t worry! You’re in network! We accept your insurance and most people only pay $30.” The $30 price point was referenced many times by my provider and it’s on their website so that must be what they’re trained to say.

    My provider requested bloodwork, for which I was billed over $200. The bloodwork tested for pregnancy and a full drug panel. I can’t get pregnant and I don’t use drugs. Why was I tested for drugs? Just to run up the bill. Why did she demand bloodwork? I don’t know, it was never explained. During the appointment, the psychiatrist seemed uninterested in my actual chief complaint and did not meaningfully engage with the concerns that brought me there. She diagnosed me with anxiety and prescribed Lexapro. I specifically explained that I was not interested in starting medication, yet medication quickly became the focus of the appointment.

    The only treatment option offered to me was Lexapro. I clearly stated that I did not want to take Lexapro and explained my reasons for that decision. Rather than discussing alternatives, addressing my concerns, or exploring non-medication approaches, I was told to start the medication anyway and that we could discuss it at the next appointment if I did not like it. When I pushed back and reiterated that I did not want medication, the recommendation did not change. It felt less like a collaborative discussion and more like pressure to accept a treatment I had already said I did not want.

    I also provided information about other psychiatric and mental health services I was already receiving, but that information appeared to be ignored. Rather than feeling like I was having a thoughtful conversation with a medical professional, I felt like I was being pushed through a predetermined process. My concerns, preferences, and treatment history did not seem to matter.

    After receiving the bill, I contacted customer service multiple times. Their response was simply that the visit had been coded correctly and that the charge was therefore valid. Whether the coding was technically correct completely misses the point. At no time did anyone address my concerns about the quality of care, the provider’s unwillingness to listen, the disregard for my stated treatment preferences, or the fact that I left the appointment feeling dismissed and unheard.

    Mental health care requires trust, communication, and respect for the patient’s concerns. Unfortunately, my experience with Talkiatry lacked all three. I paid for professional guidance and compassionate care. What I received instead was a brief, frustrating interaction, a large bill, and the feeling that no one was interested in hearing what I actually had to say. I still owe $442 for this appointment, and despite multiple attempts to resolve my concerns, the only answer I received was that the billing was correct. My concerns about the actual care I received were never meaningfully addressed. Horrible doctor. Horrible “customer service”

    Horrible psychiatrists that constantly cancel appointments just hours and sometimes minutes before the appointment. Then they tell me it will be over a month before a new appointment can be made. Then I was charged a copay and $100 cancellation fee for an appointment they canceled. This is the third time this has happened to me or my daughter. My psychiatrist completely dropped me and told me to find and in person therapist and get me completely terminated from Talkiatry. I highly recommend you find someone else for mental health services.

      The service is awful!! I cannot say it enough. I requested medical records for my son in October of 2025 to be sent to his school. The request was lost or missed somehow and I received an email 2 months later asking if I still needed the records. I replied yes and to issue them as soon as possible. It is now April and they cannot confirm when or whether they were ever sent. I talked to a rep and apparently medical records is not an office you can call. Instead I must follow up with them again. I regret ever using this them. Awful, awful service!

      Connection issues continually, and then they charge me for a visit that I never had due to technical issues. The person at Talk Talkiatry told me I would not be charged. They charged me.!!!! The second visit I couldn’t get connected, but when I was finally connected with the help of customer service. I only had 10 minutes with the provider. She took a lot of information from me, and then reported me as a no-show. What was interesting was that? I got an email on April 12 that my appointment for April 10 was canceled? Sounds a bit confusing to me.?!

      The next visit I had, which was my last visit with Talkiatry ever, the provider told me that all of my medical records that she took from the previous visit were missing…and this has never happened. So I had to spend this visit, rehashing everything that we discussed at the last visit. By the way, I will mention that when the provider finally got me on the computer, she asked me “What brings you to Talkiatry?” Like we never met? Are these psychiatrists capable? That’s my question. She didn’t even remember my name or that we spoke 3 days ago???? Horrible, absolutely horrible for a company that claims to be professional and helpful.

      I’m writing to their escalation team and to their CEO they need to be investigated and I’m going to look up the credentials of the doctor that saw me.. I find it hard to believe that in today’s world with all the modern technology we have, that they still have technical issues, but then they charge people for visits they never have. Is this the way they make money or do they have agreements with providers so that everybody can make a lot of money off people who need help, but never get connected. I’m very disappointed. And will make sure that people know not to use their service. I was charged $300 for one visit that was a waste of time, and two visits that were faulty and I never really got ANY benefit from. I’m also planning to write a Google review!!! This was so disappointing!!!!

      They will initiate conversations that you don't ask for and then bill additionally for them. Thye seem to think that just because you have insurance the patient won't be paying so it doesn't matter. They don't disclose their fees or offer a cash pay rate. The reality is that most people who don't have excessive medical issues will be paying the entire bill after insurance reduces to their allowed rate. They billed 710 for 2 different codes when I only went for one thing. I'm on the hook for over 440.00. I have had other psychiatrist over the years and the standard amount for a 1 hr first visit is between 250-300. Subsequent 15-30 min are about 150-200. Then, after billing excessively per visit, the doctor said they required monthly visits for refills when the standard of practice and the law requires visits every 3 months. There was no medical reason for this, it's clearly financially motivated.

      Today I had my Talkiatry virtual visit with Dr. **, PMNHP. Talkiatry claims they provide virtual counseling sessions & help with prescription medications needed for depression, ADHD, etc. My state of WA qualifies. Their services are “ONLY” virtual. However she wasted an hr of my time today. Then said, "I don’t feel comfortable prescribing over a virtual." Like what?? That’s all you do. So you don't provide that service like stated?? Wtf? She even could have worked alongside/ my doctor I see monthly. Instead she just said she didn’t feel comfortable helping a woman who’s 45 & been struggling really bad her whole life.

      I would NOT recommend Talkiatry at all. Had me in tears & wasted my time. Should have said in the beginning you do virtuals but never prescribe any meds. Because virtually is all you offer. So that’s just weird. But ok.… Find a in person doctor. Don’t trust these SCAMS.. Because she refused help & I'm at my wits' end. I now have to apply to have my 22 yr old son be my pt caretaker. These doctors are unreal. Find a new career 'cause this ain’t it.

      It was a waste of time and money. She did not truly listen to me or help me with what I was there for. I wasted over an hour of her asking the same questions then hyper-focusing on one of my issues instead of the whole picture and the primary reason I made the appointment. I was afraid I wouldn't be heard, and she confirmed my fears. I even told her that was one of my worries and that I just needed someone to hear me. In the end, it was made clear she wasn't going to help me. They got paid to make me feel worse and less hopeful than before my appointment.

      First and foremost the Psychiatrist I was put with is outstanding and I love working with her, Talkiatry itself is a complete nightmare. The detachment from help staff to medical records staff make it impossible to get your information no matter how many times you contact them or fill out forms. The bureaucracy I’ve encountered is the exact reason that healthcare in this country is so expensive. I’ve heard, "Oh yeah we’re getting your records to you," over 20 times in 30 days. Now it’s not even worth the hassle at this point despite having a good doctor.

      Talkiatry Fraud. I had one meeting online in 2025 with a psychiatrist from Talkiatry.com. Their website said that with most insurance the total paid by the consumer is around $30. I have Medicare. The total bill was $710 for a 54 minute visit! Later they emailed me that the visit was 57 minutes. Talkiatry wants me to pay over $200. They had 2 billing codes: One is “a virtual visit with a clinician to evaluate your condition, provide a diagnosis, talk about using medication for treatment.” $460. Two is “psychotherapeutic techniques like supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation or cognitive behavioral therapy”. $250. I never received any therapy at all in code two. In code one it was only “evaluate your condition”. I never received a diagnosis, psychological help or a prescription of medication.

      The psychiatrist was cold, acting like I was a criminal. I later found out he is a Forensic Psychiatrist. He did not help me at all. He kept repeating the same questions over and over. He asked if I had any surgeries. I said I broke my arm as a child (age 8) when I fell down running. He asked over and over if I had surgery or not on my arm. I said I did not know. I only have a few memories from that incident. What does my broken arm have to do with me now? I am in my 70s.. The psychiatrist was 10 minutes late for the appointment but I still got billed for that time. Talkiatry is deceptive and unethical in their advertising and billing. Their customer service is poor. I contacted them by phone and email with no help in the fraudulent billing. I asked customer service to watch the video of my visit with the psychiatrist to prove I never received anything mentioned in Code 2. They refused.

      The doctor was not comfortable treating situational anxiety. She admitted being fearful of prescribing controlled substances due to regulations. She therefore over-treats situational anxiety, even if symptoms are only experienced once weekly, with unnecessary long term SSRIs and SNRIs. She was willing to prescribe an anti-psychotic (**) rather than a ** as the former is not a controlled substance. Her only options for treating situational anxiety are ** and **. If neither of these work she automatically commits you to a long term medication with its associated side effects. Talkiatry makes cancelling appointments VERY difficult.
