When we lived in Florida in 2010, we purchased Zounds Hearing Aids for my father-in-law who was 92 years old. From the start of use with them, he kept complaining about singing noises all the time from them. After several visits back to the store and being sold new ear buds, in foam or soft plastic, he would still complain. He lost total confidence in them, that he would only wear them for evening meals with us for about 30 mins a day, and every time we would convince him to wear them, they would be broken down. Either the connection leads or the battery charger was not working.

After spending a total of $4907.50 over a 2.5 year period, and we last visited a Zounds store on 22 Nov 2013, the technician said that again, it was a Battery problem. But one Aid was broken near the battery door and needed replacing, but it was not covered by the Extra warranty that we had purchased on the 10th of Jan 2013 for $460, and we would have to pay a further $300. Enough is enough. These aids do not perform as they should. They are Flimsy and are always breaking down. We feel we have been conned all the way. If any person is thinking of purchasing Zounds hearing aids, do not waste your money. This company is a Con Company, preying on the vulnerabilities of the aged in the community.

You would not believe what happened to me when I purchased a pair of Zounds hearing aids in Tucson, Arizona. The rubber dome on the end of the link that goes into your ear got lodged in my ear canal. I had to go to the emergency room to have them remove the dome from my ear. I was frightened that something serious was wrong with my ear and that I could not hear very well. They do not tell you this when you buy a pair of Zounds hearing aids that the plastic dome on the end can get lodged in your ear. I was told by the office that it happens more than you think. The clerical help had nothing good to say about Zounds and recommended to see some other hearing aid companies and compare. Who wants to buy a pair of hearing aids that get lodged in your ear canal? Buyer beware.

I purchased the $3000+ set for my elderly mother-in-law with dementia. She would not use it so I offered to give it to a friend of mine who needs them. Bonita Springs and Fort Myers, FL stores told me it was illegal to reprogram for my friend. I contacted FL Board Of Health, Department of Hearing and they told me that Zounds was lying; it is not illegal to reprogram. When I talked to the manager again and told him, he changed his tune and told me that he didn't have to offer this service as he was busy enough selling new hearing aids! How's that for a caring company?

I purchased my Zounds MBTE aids on 03-30-2009, at a cost of $2,897. I was fitted with foam caps. Since then I have been seen by 5 different Zounds Hearing Consultants, I have been sold closed tip domes, open tip domes and again foam tips attempting to keep the aids in my ears. They will not stay in my ears. Since April of 2011 I have purchased 8 replacement links. When I discussed this with the current Zounds Hearing Consultant, he blew me off by telling me, "Well they're almost 3 years old." That was on Feb. 10, 2012. He offered no assistance. I replaced a link on the left aid on August 28, 2012 and while they were replacing the link, I told the Tech in the office that the left aid seemed to be swollen and was hard to get in the charger. She checked it with her charger and agreed it did not fit well, put a new battery in it and said it was okay.

Today, 11/27/2012, I took the left aid in to the store because it buggled when I put in but did not appear to be working otherwise. After they checked it, I was informed it was broken and needed to be replaced at a cost of $999. I am so upset. On Feb. 4, 2009, I called Zounds 888 number and left a message. There was no call back within 48 hours as it said on the answering machine. I sent an email about my concerns and have never heard from them. I wasted over 3 thousand dollars and a lot of effort and feel ripped off.

Dual hearing aids model Titan MBTE - On November 11, 2009, I purchased two hearing aids at 4807 E. Greenway Road, Ste/3. Scottsdale, AZ for $2,999.00 and paid $398.00 for the protection plan that has a $300.00 deductible. I have had two replacements with rebuilt units, had batteries replaced twice, have had a broken connector from the unit to the earplug. The charger is hard to get the units to sit right to get them to charge. They work good when they are not broken. Now the left one will not work and the attendant quoted about $800.00 to replace the left one with a rebuilt one, even though my insurance does not expire for another month. I would not recommend this brand to anyone. The attendant said my units were really old and not made anymore. Kind of like phones and TVs etc. I plan on filing a complaint with the AZ Dept of Insurance for selling insurance through unlicensed agents and for lack of good faith.

Two $2,000.00 Zounds hearing aids lasted a little over 2 years each. Warranty/Paid insurance long gone. I was only able to purchase one $600.00 aid replacement. A week short of the one year warranty, the aid started clicking. I went to the store - he said I had to clear the wax out of the ear for him to run a test on my ear! Never having an ear wax problem. I went home, bought wax remover and not knowing how long it takes to clean out the ear, I used 1/2 the bottle. By this time, the warranty was past due. I was only a few days after the warranty expired, even though my original complaint was before the warranty expired! When I went back, he said he could do nothing because my warranty was expired! I wrote a detailed letter of complaint to the corporate headquarters about this. The fact that my two $2,000.00 aids only lasted a little over 2 years. I never heard back from corporate. Very unprofessional. I absolutely would not recommend Zounds.

I purchased Zounds hearing aids for both sides. After one year, they would not work anymore. We took them back to the store and were told that the insides of both units were completely ruined from either the batteries or the humidity in the air. They did replace them as per the warranty. A few years later, we had the same problem. However, the warranty had lapsed and they wanted $2,000 to replace them. We could not afford that! We paid $2,000 for a pair of hearing aids that only lasted two years! Also, during the limited time that they were useful, the charger never worked very well because the contacts on the hearing aids did not make good contact with the tiny slots in the charger!

What's wrong with replacing batteries anyway? As something as important as being able to hear, it's a tiny price to pay to keep fresh batteries in the units instead of having to rely on a unreliable charger with batteries that may leak. Do yourself a favor, spend the same amount of money (or much less) and get a time proven hearing aid because Zounds hearing aids are absolute junk! It seems to me that they just got too fancy and tried to shove all this meaningless electronics in them!

In early 2007, Zounds introduced their hearing aids. In Oct. 2007, I bought one at the Eastern PA store. As with many new products, there were "bugs". The battery did not last long (1st one was 11 months & replacement only 5 1/2 months). They required changing too often. The link with the speaker rotated on the shell (not good) & was replaced, etc. However, to Zounds credit, they corrected each problem without cost to me; my inconvenience was a 1-hour round trip to the store each time there was an issue. Be aware that Zounds advertises 4 settings: Quiet, Party, Dining & Music to cover various noise environments. My experience has been that it does not perform at these settings very well & merely amplifies the sound.

After 26 months, the aid stopped working (it had a 24-month warranty!); a temporary fix failed. In January 2012, I bought a rebuilt aid at $600 but 1 month later (February 2012) returned it & bought a new hearing aid. In July 2012, the aid turned itself off, then on again, repeating the same a number of times. I returned it to the store & received a free, new aid. Nevertheless, the warranty for the new aid was not another 2 years but the time remaining on the unit bought in Feb. 2012. Zounds has a limited number of stores. Be aware that the smaller, satellite stores have personnel with limited qualifications, so it is best to go to a major store. The cost for a Zounds Clareza hearing aid is $1,600 in 2012 & is about 1/2 the cost of other major hearing aids so the issues & inconvenient store locations may be acceptable.

I had a 3 year warranty (paid extra). The hearing aids would fail within a month of service repeatedly. Within a month after the warranty was over, the hearing aids stop working. I was told that if I want a refurbished one at any time (since I bought the original set), I could get a replacement for $600. I called and they now tell me it is $990.00, yet I have a card with the rep’s name stating come in any time! They lied!

I was one of their very first customers. I was so satisfied with them I recommended to 27 of my friends who did buy from them. It was the best hearing test I ever had. But all those first "experts" that worked there are now gone. All they have now are arrogant very young folks with no experience whatsoever, and no knowledge as to how to treat a customer. They are way overpriced now. When I purchased mine, I was told I would never have to spend another dime for maintenance or anything else to keep them viable. And it was that way up until now.

I went into the Surprise location to replace the "in-the-canal-foam sleeves" that are attached to the over the ear aids. The little twerp there said, "They are $3.95 apiece." I said, "What?" That's ridiculous. They only last a couple weeks. I was really disgusted. I guess a very good company has now gone "greedy." I have never before had to pay for batteries, or anything before. Now, I can't afford to keep them, too high maintenance for sure. Do I recommend them? Absolutely not! Find some other co. that is more reliable than Zounds.

I went into Zounds office on Grand Avenue to have my battery replaced in my right hearing aid. The woman at the counter said it would only take a few minutes and asked if I would like to replace the left battery at the same time. I agreed to that, seeing they were of the same age and said to go ahead and change out both batteries.

After a short time, the woman returned saying that both my hearing aids were bad and not working. I found this disturbing, seeing that I was wearing the left one at the time I entered the store and it had been working just fine. I was told that I could come in the next day when someone else would be there who was more experienced in repairing the hearing aids. I made an appointment for the next day at 3:30pm.

When I went home, I checked the right hearing aid and found that the two small contacts that make a connection to the wiring device that goes to your ear was not making contact. This seems to be a common problem that I have had before. I made a minor adjustment, and the hearing aid started working properly. However, the left one would not respond at all. I tried to place it in my charger, thinking that maybe the new batteries needed charging. What I found was that now the left hearing aid would not start charging as though it no longer made a complete circuit.

The next day, I arrived for my 3:30pm appointment and was asked what the problem was. I explained how yesterday I came in to get a new battery for the right hearing aid and that after they worked on them, neither aid worked. They took the aids into the back of the store and worked on them. When they returned, they said that nothing was wrong with the left aid and that it must be a problem with my charger. They also said that the problem with the right aid was a bad switch. I found this hard to believe since I had been wearing the right one ever since I fixed it and found no problems.

When I started to explain all of this, I was told by an unknown man, who apparently was associated with the store, that I should lower my voice or leave the store. I did not raise my voice until I was accosted by this unknown man. When I asked who he was, I was told to leave or they would call the police. I left the store feeling confused as to how the problem they created became a problem for me as if I did something wrong.

I am 70 years old and do not go around looking for trouble. I don't like businesses that treat their customers badly. I have tried to stick with Zounds, even through the restructuring to avoid bankruptcy. And this is how a loyal customer is treated. I will not be surprised when they finally go out of business. Thank you for hearing my concerns. I hope that it will help others to avoid the same problems.

    Hello Robert,
We are so sorry to hear of your bad experience. I don't know the exact circumstances surrounding your office visit but I can only assume that someone was in a hearing test and was attempting to have everyone keep their voices down to reduce the sound contamination. Regardless you should not have been treated that way. Please let me know of a day and time when we can reach you and correct the way that you were treated. You were a loyal part of our Zounds family and we would like you to feel as appreciated as you deserve,

    Thanks

Don’t buy this product. It’s junk. After only 2 years, the Potanza 16 model failed. And all I was offered is a refurbished replacement for $600. Their customer service consists of an answering machine that in itself speaks volumes. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Our store in Delaware has been closed and the nearest store is over an hour away. I have been contacting corporate offices every day and received no response to my calls/messages and also my e-mails. To make matters worse, the store manager in the Pennsylvania store (over an hour away), belittled me upon discussing my displeasure with driving to their store for service.

    Hello Diane,
I am so sorry to hear that you were affected by a store closing. We had a small # of offices that were closed at the very worst of the economic troubles. I know that the same day service is one thing that so many people love about Zounds that is not available from our competitors, I can certainly see why it would be frustrating to go from that standard to having your hearing aids sent to factory(as is industry norm) or travel to another office. There are many offices that have opened closer to your location recently that I feel will be better able to directly service your needs. I see one that is about a 20 minute drive. We are growing quickly, and will add another hundred locations nationwide this next year. I am hopeful that you will find a location even closer to you very soon. In the mean time please reach out to us and we will be happy to take care of any service needs you have.

    Thanks
