BraunAbility installed the ramp on my wheelchair van. When I purchased the van, I looked at the price of the van itself and BraunAbility was an equal amount. So I essentially paid for two vans for one van plus the BraunAbility add-ons that are required for my disability. But the add-ons are very helpful. I have lockdowns in the van for my wheelchair. I have a lowered floor of the van itself so that the ramp can come out easier. They are pretty good accommodations. I am not the one that currently drives it, but I'm planning on adding hand controls when I'm able to. BraunAbility is overpriced for some things but the quality is good and it's a trustworthy company that's been around for probably longer than my entire life span. I would be willing to recommend it to a friend on the basis that they needed the equipment.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to get straightforward answers.
At this time, we don’t have any record in our system that would indicate we’ve previously connected with you or that your information was captured. That certainly isn’t the experience we want anyone to have.

BraunAbility is a good company. If others really pay attention to detail for individuals with special needs, it's a good vehicle. The conversion is good to help transport their disabled family members.
The only thing is that the ramp sometimes gets stuck when you hit the button. It doesn't go right away. You have to hit the button twice for the ramp to deploy, and then I have to take it for service. I don't have time to drive it up to Saddle Brook. It's 200 miles away. I would have to pay the driver $300 one way to come pick up the van and I'm not doing that.

We've been using BraunAbility for years and the service and support has been excellent. It's also easy to communicate with the vendor. I just make an appointment. BraunAbility makes conversion equipment. We purchased a 2024 handicapped van and it's good quality. The van allows a chance for our son, so that's good. We can transfer my son in his wheelchair, which is what it was bought for.

I have the Honda Odyssey for a year now. It's fine but when you come out of the ramp, the rubber strip of the door is very sensitive. Any little knock will pull it off. Then the sensor won't let the door close properly. The switch to the ramp in and out of my previous Toyota cars was a lot easier to operate than this one. I don't know if it's a Braun or Honda problem.
Hi Ginger,
Thank you for sharing your experience with your Honda Odyssey and BraunAbility. We’re glad to hear the overall quality has been satisfactory, and we appreciate your feedback about the sensitive door rubber/sensor and the ramp switch.
To make sure everything is working as it should, please schedule an appointment with your authorized BraunAbility dealer so they can inspect the door weatherstripping, sensors, and controls in person.

We bought a Toyota Sienna mobility van from Alliance Mobility in Kelowna B.C. in August of 2018. Love the van. Love the conversion. Unfortunately we are having a serious issue with the brakes. The front rotors keep warping. We have 71000km on the van. We are now on the fourth set of rotors. I built some cooling ducts to the font rotors which helped a bit. Looking at the description on the recall it seems to me that all the issues line up with the recall as there is not much pad wear on the rear.

Absolutely a pitiful warranty. I bought a just about new (13,000 mi) Braun conversion van (Pacifica) this past Feb. After 7 months my mechanic told me this van needs new tires and an alignment. I took it to my local dealer where I bought the van only to discover Braun has a 6 month warranty on their products and conversions. 6 months? then I'm on my own? PITIFUL!!!!!
Joe,
We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how disappointing this must be.
To clarify, BraunAbility’s limited warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles from the date the original owner purchased the vehicle. While tire rotations and alignments aren’t typically covered, BraunAbility does provide coverage for these items during the first 6 months or 6,000 miles.
Since your van was purchased used, it’s possible that some of that initial coverage had already expired before your purchase. We know that’s frustrating, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

I purchased a Chrysler Pacifica minivan with a side door opening ramp from BraunAbility. The quality is good but I had some issues with the door. It was malfunctioning and damaging the door itself. That damage is visible and I’m afraid that some of that paint can turn into rust because it’s been scratched off.
BraunAbility is replacing the parts under warranty and they have a request in to repair the damage on the body of the car. I’m not sure whether that is approved or not. Other than that, the experience has been favorable. Positive overall.

We feel very good about the quality of the van we purchased from BraunAbility. It’s pretty cool that the van kneels or lowers itself so that my son can get off the ramp a lot easier. The dealership that we went through to buy the van could have explained a little bit more about the van in general. And the cost was high because we got a Honda. But overall, everything about the experience was great.

We got a van converted for my husband with his wheelchair through MobilityWorks and got the VA to pay for the conversion part. My only complaint with this is the ramp is way too narrow and could be another 3 to 6 inches wider. He has a very difficult time getting up on the ramp because he has to go exactly straight or he would go off the ramp. They said they couldn’t make it any wider because of the way the van and the doors are. Otherwise, they're great. We had a van before with a ramp that came out on the back, but it got way too difficult to get him into the van with that. Now it’s gotten much easier with this one.
Rhonda,
We are so glad that your vehicle experience has been life changing. As MobilityWorks mentioned, the width of the ramp is not able to be adjusted. We are only allowed so much space in the doorway to add the ramp. We do our best to provide the most width possible to accommodate as many different sized wheelchairs as possible.

I needed a handicap van, so I bought a 2004 Honda Odyssey with side ramp from BraunAbility. I didn’t like that it cost $82,000. It’s hard on old folks to have that kind of money. They told me that I could put in a captain’s chair on the passenger side and put on a lock-in device where I could roll in there. I’m not gonna spend any more money since it’s too much already. My wife tore the mirror off the right side, so we went to the Honda shop to buy a complete mirror assembly. That was expensive. I’m pretty handy, so I did it myself and replaced it with the new one.
Everything so far has worked well for us. Both doors in the back are good. I’m able to strap myself down, and I can get in and out and make my appointments. Being wheelchair-bound, I can’t go anywhere without it. My wife can load the groceries in the back. The quality is good. My stepson drove my wife and brought my wheelchair to the hospital for me once, and he said that it’s handled like a regular car. The only problem is when I get in that wheelchair, it’s sensitive and I can go left to right quick.

A regional center gave us two or three flyers about BraunAbility. We have special needs, so we bought a minivan from them. We talked to one other company in Illinois, and I liked our customer service from BraunAbility way better.
The company worked well with us and answered questions I had. They were supposed to do modifications on the side of the van, but that didn’t work out, so they had to do it from the trunk. That took three more months to get made, which didn’t make sense. But I like it because, with it, my two kids can ride the van at the same time.

I bought a van from BraunAbility. It has the door that opens on the side, the driver's door that tilts so I can get in and out of the passenger door. It's a full-fledged van and the middle seat is out of it. That's where the wheelchair goes and we got the metal wheelchair lift that lays out. BraunAbility's rep was about the best you could get. They were on time, upscale, assertive, communicative, and honest. There was no pressure and they explained the product well. They made sure before I left that everything was done correctly and I knew how to do things in case of an emergency. They were immaculate and I'd recommend them.
So far, everything is fine with the van. It does make a little bit of noise when on a bumpy road. But it's an aftermarket product going into a Chrysler Pacifica which had 38,000 miles on it. I just paid to have the stuff put in it. Other than that, it's perfect and it hasn't quit running yet. So we're quite content with it, to a degree. If the noise got worse, then we would take it back to the dealer.
Lance,

BraunAbility was recommended by the place that we took our van to to be modified, and they did a great job. They modified the van so it now has an in-floor ramp. We're very happy with the vehicle. It's quiet. We're very happy with the modification as well but when they did it, they took out any venting for air or heat in the rear so that's quite uncomfortable. The accessible van has been very helpful. Our daughter uses a wheelchair. We use the van almost daily for taking her to programs and appointments, et cetera. It was something that was part of our daily routine. The van we had previous to this was a VMI conversion and that one worked fine. But we saw the opportunity to get this van from a local dealer and we decided to try the BraunAbility version. The mechanism itself seems to work fine. It's straightforward in terms of how to use it. However, because of all the electronics and the way the conversion is done, there are very few storage places inside the van itself. It's not a big deal. But for instance, there's no place to put a Kleenex box. Other than that, everything works smoothly. We haven't had any problems with it.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It's delightful to know that your BraunAbility van has been instrumental in supporting your daughter's daily activities. We're thrilled to hear you've had a smooth and issue-free experience over the past year and appreciate your feedback on the conversion's efficiency. We purchased a BraunAbility van with the in-the-floor ramp. I've had BraunAbility before, and this is my third van. I went through the mobility dealers. They just showed me all the different products and a couple of other ramp systems by different companies and different vehicles. But in my opinion, Braun is always superior. So, I chose to continue with their product.
Quality-wise, it's been great so far. The last one was a Toyota Sienna. And the way the new Toyota is a hybrid, its conversion looked horrible because it rides so high over the wheel. I went with the Honda and this is the first time we purchased the Honda Odyssey. I'm really happy with its excellent quality. Haven't had any defects or seen any flaws. And honestly, I really didn't want too much between the van price and the conversion price. It is what it is.
I live two hours away from Indianapolis, where I purchased my van. They aren't open on Saturdays, but they did open on a Saturday morning for me to come over and do some test drives. I think it said on the website that other hours are by appointment, which was very nice.
Jean,

We're happy to hear that your continued experiences with BraunAbility vehicles, particularly your new Honda Odyssey with an in-floor ramp, have been so positive and satisfactory. My Chrysler Pacifica 2024 was customized by BraunAbility to meet my needs as a handicapped veteran. Every vehicle I've had modified for accessibility over the years has been done through them, and I rely on them for their consistent quality. My sister drove the Pacifica recently to a VA appointment and noted that it has a substantial feel, akin to driving a tank, but it boasts an impressive engine and performance.
I've always been vocal about BraunAbility's quality with friends and family. Sure, there might be complications given the extensive modifications they make, like altering the wiring harness when they essentially reconstruct the vehicle, but their work still stands out. Over the years, I've gone through multiple vehicles every couple of years, each one configured by BraunAbility, and I’ve been satisfied with the service each time.
The company’s commitment to its customers is evident through their high-quality modifications. I find the transition from a simple lift mechanism on my old Hummer to a fully-equipped vehicle like the Pacifica to be a significant upgrade, particularly given New England’s harsh weather. While the choice did come with a hefty price tag, which the VA helps with, the convenience and quality are unmarred. Despite any hiccups along the way, such as past issues with another vehicle model and builder, BraunAbility stands out for customer care and service excellence. All things considered, I highly regard and recommend BraunAbility for accessible vehicle needs.
