What is WiserAdvisor?
WiserAdvisor is a matchmaking tool that recommends financial advisors based on the information you provide. It looks in your area and beyond to find a well-vetted advisor ready to help you meet your financial goals. WiserAdvisor also provides articles, calculators and a searchable directory of advisors.
Note that WiserAdvisor is not a financial advisory firm itself and therefore does not have its own team of advisors.
WiserAdvisor services
All of the services WiserAdvisor offers involve helping you better your financial life, either through educational materials for your own research or with the help of a trusty advisor.
Advisor match service
WiserAdvisor will match you with one to three advisors after you fill out a simple form. The whole process takes just a few minutes. WiserAdvisor says it vets all of its financial advisors before suggesting them to clients, ensuring you only work with reputable professionals.
Directory of qualified advisors
If you want to browse more than just a few options, WiserAdvisor provides a catalog you can search by ZIP code. Again, these advisors, from Fortune 500 companies and small private firms alike, must meet a set of strict qualifications before getting added to the registry.
Additionally, all financial advisors who work with WiserAdvisor must be registered with the FINRA/SEC and have a record of responsible advising.
Financial calculators
WiserAdvisor offers an investment return calculator so you can see how much your investment will be worth when you want to pull out your money.
It also provides a savings goal calculator, which shows you how close you are to your goals and how much you need to save.
Educational articles
WiserAdvisor offers an educational personal finance blog with articles on financial planning, retirement planning and investing, as well as financial advisor guides.
How does WiserAdvisor work?
Getting matched with a financial advisor through WiserAdvisor is a relatively simple process. To start, you’ll need to navigate to its advisor match application and follow the prompts. Overall, this process only takes a couple of minutes.
You must provide some information about yourself and your finances to get matched to the right advisor. Specifically, WiserAdvisor will ask:
- Your ZIP code
- When you’d like to retire
- Whether or not you own a home
- Whether or not you own a business
- Your household income
- Your current portfolio size
- Whether or not you currently have an advisor
- Whether or not you prefer a local advisor
- Your email address
- Your full name
- Your phone number
Once you submit this information, WiserAdvisor will begin working on finding you a match. Once matched, you’ll receive an email with your match information.
If you’d rather choose an advisor on your own, you can do so by visiting WiserAdvisor’s directory of advisors. There, you can search by state and see information about advisors in your area, including their:
- Name
- Business address
- Years of experience
- Assets under management (AUM)
- Required asset minimum
- Fee structure
Note that WiserAdvisor only offers advisors in 42 states and Washington, D.C. It is currently not available if you’re seeking an advisor based in Alaska, Maine, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont or West Virginia.
WiserAdvisor fees
WiserAdvisor is a free service, so it doesn’t require any payment to connect you with a financial advisor. However, working with a financial advisor will cost money. Fees vary depending on the level of service you want, where you live and the specific advisor you choose.
