They lost to charge the $40 additional late fees every month anyway they can, if you try to pay by phone they have tricks that doesn't allow you to make the payment on time. Later on they call to let you know that you are late, you explain that you made the payment over the phone and they tell you little tricks that you did or didn't do right. No matter what is a scam to get your additional fees all the time.

This experience with Synchrony Financial has been, and continues to be, an absolute nightmare. Without going into the history of the concern, suffice it to say that the issue has reached the point of my having to engage an attorney to act on my behalf, both with Synchrony and with the fraudulent merchant. My attorney and I have sent FOUR affidavits of representation to Synchrony Corporate, at the address and FAX number they specified, in order for them to deal directly with the attorney.
In each and EVERY instance, Synchrony denies receiving the affidavit, denies any knowledge of the attorney's role, refuses to deal with the attorney BUT, and this is the clincher, they ALSO refuse to deal with me directly, claiming in the instances where I attempt to talk with someone, that they have directions to ONLY SPEAK WITH the ATTORNEY! If this weren't happening every time, and were the issue not so financially devastating for me, it would almost be comical, but as it occurs, it is poisonously criminal! My attorney assures me that this is typical of large corporations dodging their customers when they have played fast and loose with the law, but as a simple consumer, it is heartbreaking. I am not exaggerating because I am, in fact, losing my home due to this situation.
I receive form letters from Synchrony thanking me for my inquiry, but yada yada yada, and telling me to call if I have any questions. However, when I call, I can only think that my phone number is flagged and I am routed to the "hitmen" in customer service who simply parrot the denials of having any record of attorney representation. When I request a supervisor, I am NOT simply put on hold interminably. In most cases, I am DISCONNECTED. REALLY! I never thought that people could do this. We are living in a terrible time to be a consumer, or to be elderly. I hate what we have become in this country.

I was going to purchase a block and tackle from Walmart online. When I got to the check out screen I was prompted to apply for a Synchrony Bank CC for which I would receive a cash discount at payment. After filling out the application completely a popup informed me it could not be processed "at that time". The letter that arrived a week later stated that after reviewing my name, my address, my telephone number, my Social Security number, and my credit report they could not verify I was who I said I was. I am not sure who they think I am, but I closely monitor all my credit and financial accounts and see no indication of identity theft that would trigger this action.
I do see however many, many reports of unethical business practices by Synchrony, including but not limited to drastic cuts in credit limit as soon as a customer gets it paid down so as to artificially keep the customer debt to credit ratio high. I see they will close accounts that are paid off and not used for even a few months. I did not need this credit, I just thought I would take advantage of an advertised cash incentive in a purchase I would have made anyway. I am happy I did not get extended any account from this obviously very flawed "bank" business. My suggestion is STAY AWAY... STAY FAR AWAY from Synchrony bank!

I've had my Synchrony Bank PayPal MasterCard for about 2 months, and I saw the reviews and it freaked me out!!! So I called customer service, and asked, "What influences your credit limit going up or down," and the guy was so well spoken and intelligent and knowledgeable about the subject, I learned a lot!!! Like whether you're buying jewelry versus just food can make a difference to your credit limit, whether you take out a mortgage or maybe just apply for one or like it sounded like he was getting at like what other things can change your assets or spending money. And I am not sure what's going to happen to my credit limit, because I was offered this card after making a big purchase just through PayPal credit, but I've only been using the MasterCard to buy food...
So I hope and pray my years of working hard to build good credit will not be destroyed, because I depend on my good credit for replacing my air conditioner any year now, and replacing my laptop and a year now. :'( But I don't think my credit limit will change, because my mom has had her Amazon credit card, through Synchrony Bank for a couple years, and her credit limit has never changed. But she does carry a small balance, and she does make more material and larger purchases more often than me!!!
Anyway just because I deserve it because of my hard work and because I'll have a good quality of life if my credit limit doesn't go down, I hope and pray that it won't go down just because of some companies greed... So let's all reply to our comments or make new reviews or something just saying exactly what might have influenced your credit line going up or down, and then we can know what to expect more accurately from Synchrony Bank??? Thanks.

Synchrony bank just lowered my credit limits on 3 of my cards? I’ve paid all of them on time never late and each card was below 20% of my credit used? They never advised me. I found out because my overall credit took a hit due to my balances being lowered now making it look as if I’ve exhausted my credit on all cards! This is a bully tactic and completely unfair! I kept my promise and paid timely... so why penalize me? I see hundreds of complaints about them and yet nothing is done! They are misleading the credit agencies and making good people appear negative when in fact they were not! Credit is earned and so long as you're meeting your obligation... why would a company just abuse their power and single handedly destroy their consumers' credit ratings?

Synchrony Bank decides to close all accounts that we have paid on and is/was in good standing with. We only kept certain cards open for emergencies. But since Synchrony Bank decided to close the accounts that I wanted to keep open, I plan to tell people if they are looking into getting any cards in the future, make sure it's not through Synchrony Bank. My husband and I opened a credit account with Mattress Firm last year to purchase an expensive adjustable bed. We were told we had 60 months to pay interest free. We set up automatic payments so we will never be late. All payments have gone smoothly on schedule. Separate from this account, we held a Care Credit card for emergencies. Well, today we had an emergency dental situation. We were grateful for the card! Unbeknownst to us, our Mattress Firm balance was transferred onto our Care Credit card. We had very limited credit available to use for the emergency and were forced to use funds for our house payment. Now we're upset about the transfer of accounts, knowing over $3,000 of available credit was taken from us. How is this even legal? We want to be included in a class action lawsuit. How despicable and corrupt this financial organization is.

I never opened an account with them yet in 2018 I got sued for a account that was opened in 2013. After calling them several times they told me they had no record of the account and they would take care of it with their collection agency. One month later I had a summons to court so I called again and was told that they had a record of me talking to one of their claims people but she failed to follow up with her end of fixing it so nothing was done. They assured me that they would fix their records and I went to court and explained this to the Judge and the collections Attorney.
Two months later I get a call from the collections Attorney saying he has not heard from Synchrony so I called again and was told they are still working on it. They cannot find any application for credit only a one-time purchase back in 2013 with my address on it. I was told by the collection attorney he would deal directly with them only to find out he was on the phone with the court an hour later and received a judgment against me for not showing up. So I called the fraud department at Synchrony and their response was "Sorry we can't find any supporting documents but since your name is on it, it must be yours". I can only give them a 1-star review but given the option I would give them a negative 5 for total lack of effort.

I opened my Lowe’s credit account with a $6000.00 limit. Since then they have lowered my available credit 3 times in the last year. I have paid them over $2000.00 to lower my balance but every time I lower the amount that I owe, they lower my available credit and thus keeping my card at the max amount available. This tends to lower your credit score. They blame me for my credit score but they are effectively lowering my credit score by keeping my account at the max available credit every time they lower it.

Open a credit card through Synchrony Financial to buy furniture from Ashley HomeStores and we were told to get the best deal to put most of our furniture on one statement and the mattress that we bought another statement. The mattress that we bought had 12 months no interest not deferred and the other bigger portion had 72 months. We were told that our payments would be going to the mattress first for the first year and once that was paid off in the first year our payment would drop and it would start going toward the one with the longer-term.
Well it’s been a year and all of a sudden we get an interest bill for over $500. Naturally I call Synchrony and get a person I can’t even understand and she tells me that my payments are being equally divided between the two which is not what we were told at Ashley Furniture. She proceeded to tell me that I should’ve called to make sure but why would I call when Ashley HomeStore should know what they are talking about. I got mad and basically told them to come pick up the mattress and there was no response so I got off the phone with her and once I call down I called back again to see what we can do to fix this issue.
They continue to tell me that even if I pay the mattress in full they are not going to take off the interest which how do I accrued and just the two months that was passed the one-year. Now I’m wondering if I can even tell them how to allocate the funds that I pay and if I can even trust them to put my money where I would like it. I am scared to pay this company as I do not want to be out of money and continue to get charged the interest that I cannot afford. I feel very helpless especially when we tried to be responsible and get no interest and now it is backfiring on us because Synchrony is making sure that the money I pay is not going toward the one that we are being charged interest on.

I have had the same experience as so many others - am a senior citizen, pay all bills in a timely fashion and HAD an 800+ credit score UNTIL this company sunk it. I HAD an account with a very high credit limit with them at a nice furniture store for years, always paid account to zero balance. Today I decided it was time for new living room furniture - unbeknownst to me my account was closed in June of this year by Synchrony “due to inactivity.” I called Synchrony - was told that I could reapply. REALLY? Who keeps a running balance at a furniture store? How often does one buy furniture?
I then decided to check the one other credit card that was financed by them (which has a zero balance) at a home improvement store - they recently lowered my credit to a mere $1000.00. I called both businesses with the belief that they would care how their customers were being treated - was I ever wrong. I was telling my daughter about it today - she had the very same experience with them. I will not do business with these retailers again nor will I ever do business with Synchrony again. My credit score has taken a serious hit because of their practices - I am livid!

I called to inquire and got the rudest spokesperson who told me nothing other than they review the accounts periodically and adjust the limits as needed. I do not have anywhere near the max on the card, have paid on time, as with my other accounts. I would never do business with Synchrony Bank again after seeing these reviews posted here. If I could give negative stars I would. This company handles the credit cards for Sam’s Club. On Sam’s Clubs website there was a promotion for $45 off your purchase if you opened a credit card. Why not... So on a major holiday I purchased a laptop and picked it up the following day. The first statement came and the $45 was not deducted. I called them and they said it would take 1-2 business cycles. I told them I was not going to pay any late fees because of this.
They said they would put a discrepancy in. So I sent them a check for the balance less the $45. I then get a letter saying my discrepancy was denied and they were not going to honor the $45 promotion. When I called I was told that it was because the credit card and the purchase were not made on the same day. Apparently they don't count it as a sale-post it, (unlike any other company) until what you purchase is picked up. I'm just glad I never activated the card. Who knows what else they would try.

Again "SYNCHRONY" has bullied me. I got a credit monitoring alert that my score changed. I signed on to check the change and it was Synchrony adding or updating late payments from about a year ago. I have late payments on all 3 reporting agencies and with different months... seems Synchrony has no clue what they are doing, My score dropped 70 points today because it took them a year to report or change the months on the report. Not only do they close your accounts and reduce credit limits they now access your report information 10-12 months after the fact and why?
The account was paid off by me and Synchrony no longer has a right to report or access my credit for this TJX line. I'm still amazed how TJX Synchrony pulled my BK from over 20 years ago (not on my credit report for over 19 years) and used it to determine my credit worthiness now. Every time I pay down my credit Cards with them they reduce my credit limit sometime making me go over what they reduce it to. This bank has some serious issues in the way they practice. I think they need to be investigated. I can't wait until all my cards are paid off with them. My suggestion is DO NOT do business with them. I will now contact an attorney for resolution... I have purchase things with my Amazon account so there is a balance that needs to be paid. But I have not been able to use my Lowe's account. I attempted to both of those to make a purchase and was embarrassed to find out that my account was not open and it was under review. The same bank that issue me the Amazon allow me to use it and then they closed it as well Synchrony Bank. I have made numerous attempts to try to verify my identity. I've called numerous times customer service to try to verify my identity via telephone. And they denied me saying that my phones are voice over internet phones. Regardless of if the phones are voice over internet phones. I have no control of what carrier uses what system for the phones.
They have been giving me the run-around ever since I've been approved for this card. I've been dissatisfied and displeased with the customer service. I have never experienced anything like this with any other credit card company. My biggest mistake was opening online first and foremost. The second mistake was going with Lowe's. I should have stayed with Home Depot. Not to mention Amazon and the Lowe's account are already on my credit report. So I am displeased and absolutely disgusted with the way Synchrony Bank has been handling me as a new customer. Then to read all of the complaints against Synchrony Bank for all the customers complaining about the same issue that I am having right now. Is almost a great idea to start a class action lawsuit against Synchrony Bank.

Every time I call customer service it's always something different that I need to do to prove my identity but yet you are able to call me, send me letters and verify who I am when I call you with the provided you with the information. I think Synchrony Bank needs to put in some better for seizures and verify identity because it's very frustrating as a new customer they have to jump through hoops just to use a card that you already issued. You pay on time, but don't buy additional items to save up for Christmas, birthday. If you wait too long, the attitude observed is, "Well, since they don't need that much credit, I'm just gonna reduce his/her credit line." It is outrageous and should be noted after being approved. I have never EVER had this problem with any other revolving account. And then once the account is closed, you will probably never get an account with them ever again regardless of your credit rating.

We had a few different accounts for stores and they were all through Synchrony Bank. We bought a couch and dinette set at Furniture Fair and paid it off. Then suddenly 2 months later they closed that account because of a change in credit score. The credit score change was because they decreased the available credit on the JCPenney card without notifying us. That was decreased because they had decreased the Walmart account credit availability. All of these accounts were or are paid on time with extra money, we dont make minimum payments. This company virtually sunk our credit score by about 80 points with their ridiculous shenanigans with the cards. As soon as I can pay them off I will close all of them. When I asked why they did this they said, "Well we do a routine credit report..." Ok I understand that but when you can see that your institution is what is causing the score to go down thats wrong. RUN FROM THEM.

My fiancé and I want to buy a house, so I’m looking to increase my credit score and lower my debt to income ratio. I paid my TJX card off in full to start with the snowball effect (pay off the lowest balances first) and the next day, Synchrony cut my limit in half. I have never missed a payment and almost every time I have paid above the minimum payment. I’m afraid this could negatively affect my score, and now the limit is so low I can barely use it. Fixing credit is a monstrous task, and honestly, who punished someone for being a responsible cardholder?

I was a loyal customer since 2010, but noticed recently that they changed banks/rules. I noticed when I received my statement balance for the month which was $32. The minimum monthly payment was $29 which seemed odd as that was over 90% of the balance. I spoke to a rep who told me "that's the new rules", so I decided to stop using this card and fill up elsewhere. I log in on the due date to pay my $32 bill only to notice that it's now $81. They added a late fee + interest charges even though I was paying on the due date. My $32 bill was now $81. I contacted their customer service and not zero help. Each rep kept passing the buck and/or telling me "that's the way it is". I would steer clear of this credit card. I closed my account and will no longer be doing any business with them. I'll fill up elsewhere using other credit cards who don't try to rob its customers.

What a horrible experience. I bought furniture at Wolf's and opened a credit card for the financing for 2 years. The card was through Synchrony. Opened the card in Jan 2018. Never used it after the initial purchase as it was maxed out anyway. Card was put in a drawer never taken off the paper it comes on. In April 2018 I went to make my payment and noticed it was higher than it should have been. I looked and there was an $1800 charge on the card that I did not make. It was well over the limit so not sure how it even went through.
I called Synchrony and got 2 different people who were hard to understand. They closed my card and reissued another one. Transferred the balance. I thought all was good. Got the new card in the mail and didn't even activate it. Now June 2018 and I notice there is another $1800 charge back on it again and and the money that was transferred was not put under the promotional and they are saying I have to pay the interest on it. Pretty sure I keep getting text book answers and no one is actually looking into the transaction! Beyond frustrated. Have never had such a terrible experience with credit cards before. I was warned about this company from others. Now I know why!!!

First, I was told that the hold was because the amount of the payment was large. Then I was told the reason for the hold was because my bank might take back the funds. One by one they closed or lowered the limit to $200 from $3000 due to "bad credit." I got my score all the way to 700 from about 615. My two oldest accounts were Old Navy and Walmart and those 2 cards closing lowered my score back down to the 600s.
When I called them they kept telling my cards were closed due to credit score, when I pointed out my score was 700 when they sent me letters, they said that is the information they had it was 615. That was in Feb and since then I have raised my score by paying off 75% of my debt. It's JUNE now. I pointed that out and they weren't really helpful. I called a few times and one rep told me it was a common practice when someone pays off their card. Makes no sense. My husband and I are both account holders on our CareCredit card. Tried to use it last month for some vet services for our cat and the card was declined. I checked our account on their app and saw that our credit limit had been significantly decreased by more than half. I have always paid twice the amount due and have it electronically paid on the day before the due date, so I just assumed it was because we hadn’t used the card in about a year. Called Synchrony when I got home and was told the decrease was because of some derogatory marks on my husband’s credit.
My husband has been deployed for 9 months, for which time we have been making more income per month than usual. I have paid all our bills on time, more than due on our credit cards to help pay them off earlier, and neither of us have applied for any new credit since he’s been gone. I ask what derogatory marks and they tell me it’s all outlined in the letter they sent me. I ask what letter as I haven’t received anything from them at all. The CSR just repeats it’s in the letter.
Coincidentally I receive a letter from Synchrony in the mail two days later stating that our credit line was decreased due to my husband’s less than perfect credit score. In 9 months, his credit has increased by 25 points because of the extra I’ve been paying on our accounts. The only changes on both our credits have been improvements and Synchrony still thinks our HIGHER credit scores are still too low for our credit limit with them, even though we were approved for the higher credit with lower credit scores 4 years ago when we opened the account. I am currently working on paying off the remaining balance so I can close our account. This kind of treatment is not worth it to keep our business.

The reason I asked for this was for an upcoming surgery. Their excuse was I had a “derogatory charges; didn’t pay as was required; outstanding accounts; and poor credit score.” I filed bankruptcy (pd off ahead of time & 8 years ago); always paid on time & paid twice as much as minimum payment; no outstanding accounts according to Transunion); credit score is good & rising each month. I questioned if the account was credited correctly after my initial call then why the reason for 2 additional late fees and now 2 more late fees. I was told at that time that I could be transferred to a call center in the USA. Please be aware of how Synchrony Bank operates. They giveth then taketh away. I bought furniture from Value City using a Synchrony card close to two years ago. I decided to pay off a couple of my cards with Synchrony being one of them. If you know the process of buying a home, the more available credit you have the debt to income ratio can work in your favor. So I waited to see my available credit to appear, but it never did appear after paying the card off, I come to find out the company decided to close my account, saying I'm high risk, even though I never been late or had a delinquent account with them.
Apparently they run your credit occasionally to view your overall history when making a determination of keeping you as a customer. Regardless of your history with them. Poor business practice. I received the card when my times were not bad and now that I'm transitioning to clear some of my previous bad credit behaviors i.e using 83% of my available credit at the time of their review, they pull the carpet right from under your feet. If they gave me back the credit line of $1600 the my available credit would have been more, which would have made a better look on my credit score. I will never apply for any department store card that is associated with Synchrony. I advised whoever that applies be leary on their practice. They are not for your best interest as a consumer. I have given the company 3 chances to get it right and they failed miserably which leads me to believe they are purposely withholding payment amounts in an extremely unethical attempt to get interest paid out. Promotional balances dated first should be paid first, no excuses. They require you to watch each statement and "reallocate funds" over the phone is the only method; I have prepaid minutes they now wasted as well. Example I had 2 promos upcoming of a $300 payment. A ridiculous amount was applied to the promos, the one due this month only had $30 it's still there!
Their hope it seems is that electronic statements means few people actually go CHECK the statements do this every time! I get to waste more phone minutes as the call I made last time did not even get done properly either. Closing the account after this and while I am supposed to represent Walmart and offer this card I let customers know the game they play. Convenience was the only reason I got the card to begin with. I got, for the 10th time in a row now, a call from Synchrony Bank about an hour ago. They claim that my payment didn't go through because of insufficient funds in my other bank, but I posted the payment the day I got paid and had over 500$ in that account. My payment only being 75$ (normally 25$ but there was a 50$ late fee because the same exact thing happened the previous month but I was tired of fighting these people). They now want 140$ as a payment for last month and this month, when I normally owe 25$ a month. All this because they have the worst payment system ever. It'll take 2 weeks sometimes for a payment to actually post when I pay online. It won't matter if I use a debit card or my actual account number from my primary checking. It's almost like they wait for there to be no money in my checking account before they go and try and take the money.
The worst part is that there's absolutely no indication of this for the user. The page will tell you that your payment has successfully been processed and that's it. I pay the bill on time every time, but the delay is what gets me. They also refuse to waive any of the late fees at all. This is obviously their entire business strategy. How else would they make any money with 0% interest for 3 years? Now I'm worried about bad marks on my credit because this company has a inability to make an accurate and timely billing system. DO NOT EVER USE THEIR SERVICES! I have now paid 400$ in late fees because of this, on a 1000$ loan. None of my other Banks have this issue. I'll post a payment, and it'll take the money. Simple as that. I wish there was something I could do, but I'm stuck with this until I can pay off this loan entirely.

I found you can call their 800 number but the system is always 3-4 days out of date stating that the payment was posted by that many days previous but their system doesn't show it as credited to your account till 3-4 days later.
I used to pay online through SunTrust's billpay and they could send it electronically in 3-4 days but the credit union that I've switched to does not recognize them to send electronically but will mail a check for me instead. My account was debited and the check was mailed on April 30th 2018, it was last scanned in Atlanta on May 2nd 2018, which is where Synchrony is located but payment still has not been posted to my account or has cleared. I have found since mailing these checks that it takes 2 business days after it gets to Atlanta that they will post to my account.
I do not understand why it takes that long after they receive payment, do they not check the PO Box every business day? If they do not it seems like they can hold payments close to the due dates just so they can collect late fees. I've had this loan now for 4 yrs and not once have I been late. The main reason I am upset is the payment is due today and yet they have not posted it to my account. I had it mailed with plenty of time for them to receive and post it. I am seriously contemplating on refinance it through my credit union just to be rid of the hassle.
Updated on 05/11/2018: My payment was due on the 9th and they still had not posted the mailed check to my account so I called them and they had no record of receiving that payment or any memo relating to it, I had them do an automatic transfer from my checking account so it would post that day and I wouldn't be late, fortunately there was no charge for that, afterwards I submitted an inquiry about the missed payment with my bank and to tell them that I had called Synchrony and they had no record of receiving that payment.
This morning I receive an email from my bank stating the payment has cleared as of yesterday May 10th. I do not understand how a payment they have no record of receiving just suddenly appears on the day after the due date when it's been delivered for a week and had plenty of time to be credited to my account. I called Synchrony to check the verification of payment but the automated system when you send in a mailed check takes longer for some reason so it hasn't been updated but they did show the automatic transfer right away. So now it looks like I will have to resort to calling them every month to perform an automatic transfer. At least I will be credited the same day but a major hassle in the end.

Apparently they did not take that seriously and either did the dental office. So now I am stuck because I owe a lot of money and I have no teeth because it was denture issue. I have filed a dispute but I am not hopeful because I am getting the run around. I have also filed a complaint with CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) hoping they will realize what has happened and help me. Beware of this in doctor, dentist and even vet office, do not allow anyone else to fill out applications because they can manipulate interest rates, payment, duration to their advantage. I was told that I would have 18 month interest free.
When I didn't get that I called Synchrony Bank and they told me "we can't change your promotional, you have to get the dentist office to do that". What, the credit card company who gave me the card can't do anything about the promotional rates??? The dentist office who is benefiting by getting full payment for 16 teeth and denture (even though I didn't receive dentures) money upfront is the only one who can change promotional rates??? Wow, conflict of interest if I ever heard of it!!! I might expect this from a used car dealer but a DENTIST office. I am in shock, in fear, in a panic cause I have no clue how to get this resolved.

I was literally looking at my TransUnion and Equifax reports as the Synchrony Bank representative read off the exact same outdated credit information they'd been using to reduce my limit for over six months now. This bank should not be allowed to operate within the United States as they do not adhere to the US Credit Reporting System and they do whatever they want based on nothing but their own will.

You go to use the card and are so embarrassed that the money you thought you had isn't actually on the card! Wow! Then to add insult to injury they close out the account with no warning. Oh yes you'll get a letter in the mail but that's after it's closed out and once again you went to the store trying use it! Ridiculous and so unfair! I hope someone reads this before buying the card, but if you’re already in, do yourself a huge favor and hurry up and pay it off. I foolishly got a card in 2017 to help pay for new tires at an Express Oil Change. Mistake number one: They never explained the details behind the card and its interest. I get it and I make no less than the minimum payments every month. I had just started getting closer to paying it all off when I’m hit with a $230 “end of the year” interest fee. A fee that’s related to an interest deal that the card company, nor the oil change place never told me about until it was too late. So now, I’m rushing to get the card paid off so I can be freed from this ridiculousness. I could have came out better getting a personal loan with a credit union or bank or just getting a different company’s credit card. I’ve learned my lesson and hope I can help prevent this from happening to another innocent person.

A number of my store credit card are owned by Synchrony Bank. Just recently I experienced some hard times with my student loans while going through the consolidation process. Which resulted in my credit score dropping because of a late payment. Fast forward to the end March I’m at the store shopping and my Walmart card was declined. I didn’t understand why when the card was paid in full a few months prior. I used cash for the purchase and immediately after leaving the store I called customer care and was told that a letter was sent out (may take 10 days to receive) explaining why they lowered my limit to $100.00. WTH? I was pissed and in anger. I told the person to close my account but I had to stop that process because I knew that was going to make my situation even worse. So I went home and took all my store credit cards to find out that Synchrony Bank either closed all the accounts with zero balance or lowered my limits.
Seriously this is some BS. How is doing this helping anyone? I know my credit score dropped but it wasn’t because of nonpayment on my credit cards. It was because of my student loans. The same loans I had when the cards were given. Now with the closed accounts and lower credit availability my score has dropped another 100 points. So this company has made a bad situation impossible because now my credit is completely shot. I’ve reached out to this company to get a better understanding and the response received was, "You have to wait for 30 days for our investigation to be completed." I’ve customer service a number times that this a bad practice and this should be looked at regulated more closely.
I will never open another account with this bank. I’ll stick to my Capital One and My Bank credit card because there is something seriously unethical about the practices at this bank. Also, the fact that they have monopolized all of the store cards. How is this far to the consumer. When I called Synchrony bank to do so, I answered all their verification questions, social security number, mother's maiden name, address, etc. My phone number was even verified. I explain that I needed to add my suite number to my address and they send me to a call center where I am told I need to send a copy of my government issued state ID and a copy of a utility bill. Let me see, I've had at least 6 credit cards a year compromised and they want me to send them the only two things they don't have of my identity. I told them I answered all verification questions and I am calling from the number on my profile and they refused to ADD my suite number to my already changed address... Why have the other information if it isn't used for the purpose of verifying who I am?
With the information they have already, adding my driver's license and utility bill, they can easily assume my identity. It seems unsafe to ask for such things. No other bank I do business with does this. The whole call center thing is a nuisance as well. All the background noise, you cannot hear or understand a word anyone is saying. So sad that we must outsource so much business to other countries. I would close all of my accounts if it weren't for the fact that Synchrony owns most of them. Was thinking about purchasing something in the future, that would cost us to pay them interest. I feel they didn't use a legit reason to close our account. It was addresses, phone number, things that were not mine. Of course I could not answer these items correctly and kept getting locked out of the account. When I called Lowe's, I was advised they did not handle this platform directly, it was done by an outside company and they could not help me except to suggest I try again after a few days when the account reset from being locked out.
I was never able to get that to work and the company set up the account for me and sent me a pin or something. Every single freaking time I tried to log in to the account to pay my bill I had issues. Their online platform is a disaster. I limped along for about six months before I canceled the line of credit. I hate that Lowe's uses this company. Their system could not understand "make payment" twice and routed me to an agent which they charge you for using versus the automated payment system. Again, I could barely understand their English. They had such a bad accent. TERRIBLE experience from start to finish and every step of the way. Keep away from Synchrony Financial at all costs.

Like so many others have started, this bank is horrible!!! I paid off my TJ Max rewards card in full in October (my credit limit was 2500). Around Christmas. I charged 1200 with misc purchase... This past week I went to check my balance and realized they reduced my limit back to 1500. The letter I received from them stated I used too much credit in 3 months and that I had delinquencies with them. I was never late one day while I have had this card, and also didn't know that there was a limit to what you could spend monthly when given a credit limit. Nowhere in the credit agreement does it state this!!! Unfortunately this bank does not like when you pay off accounts... as stated by many people here. They will close your account or reduce your limit if you do. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

So now it looks like I maxed out my credit and I am over my credit limit. I will never use them again. Synchrony provide no help at all, rude customer service, nasty collection representative. I have had the Wal-Mart credit card for a very long time now. My credit limit started out at 500. A little while later, it was decreased to 380. I got a letter with some nonsense saying my credit balances were too high and that's why it was decreased. Last week, I paid off the entire balance of the card. Brought it to a $0 balance. Walmart proceeded to drop my credit line to $100. I checked today and my credit score has raised over 40 points in the past month. SO I am very frustrated over the fact that paying off the balance on my card and having better credit than I ever had, I am rewarded by a decreased credit line. Which will impact my credit negatively.
I shop at Walmart at least once a week. Due to their ridiculous actions, I will drive 10 minutes out of my way to go to Target. This is incredibly frustrating and insanely ridiculous. Especially since, 3 other credit cards just raised my credit line for the reasons I provided previously. I am going to make it a goal to spread this information to as many people as possible. Make sure I can get everyone I know to avoid Walmart altogether. IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY GOTTEN A SYNCHRONY BANK CARD, DON'T!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I was afraid I might have stumbled upon a scam site that was trying to steal my information. Finally I called and they told me the problem was the credit freeze I put on the credit reporting agencies after the Equifax hack. I asked them why they didn’t contact me? The customer service rep said they did, which was not true. I told her that I was not going to do business with an organization that obfuscates the truth. The main thing you want in a bank is trust. I am taking my business elsewhere. My advice to Synchrony is to cut the salaries of their top management and invest the money in better customer service.

Synchrony Bank is a bank that issues several cards for retail companies. I have one with Lowe's and TJ Maxx. My credit started out with Lowe's at $600. I only opened it because being a new homeowner I wanted to have credit "just in case". Well, I didn't use it often, I made a few minor purchases. I checked my account, I had a balance due of $88 with a credit amount of $100. What in the world. I called and they told me my credit had changed. No, it has not. Now it has yes, because of my $100 credit limit. What in the world am I going to charge for $100 that I won't be able to pay for cash? TJ Maxx credit started at $2000... That has dropped as well to around my credit card balance of $1200, so guess what, that brought down my score as well, because now that available credit limit is lower.
Their reason for lowering my amounts? My available credit is too low on my credit report... Um yes, because of Synchrony Bank. Please don't get a card with them. I also had another card that I didn't use that was issued by them for Mohawk flooring ($2000). They canceled the card because I never used it (had it for 6 months). My credit score is over 700, yet they continue to play games with my credit. Please don't be a victim of Synchrony Bank. Avoid any Retailer that uses them. I don't know if the companies that use them are aware of their unethical behavior.

I CANNOT believe the experience I just had with Synchrony. I am enraged. My husband is deployed to Africa, he’s literally in the middle of nowhere. I am lucky to get a weekly email from him, as he has ZERO access to a phone. He emailed me last night asking me to contact Synchrony about his Sweetwater account because he could not log in when he tried to pay bills last night (God knows what he went through to get internet access this week). His account was ending automatic payments and he needed to set them back up. Since he could not access it online or call them to correct the problem, I called. Their response: "You cannot set up automatic payments, you cannot use his bank account to set up any payment, he cannot email is to correct this problem - he must call, and we cannot offer you any information to make payments. You can set up a one time payment for today out of your checking account only."
So basically, if I don’t take the one small option they gave me, my husband's credit will be ruined when he comes back and we will not qualify to purchase a home. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had... Luckily I’m a devoted wife who cares and will call every single freaking month, transfer the payment from his account to mine, and make the payment on time to avoid credit problems. I cannot believe how hard these people make things for you to make a payment for someone who is deployed. It is absolute bs. They should not be allowed to prevent anyone from making scheduled payments or starting recurring payments again on the bank account they have on hand. Needless to say, we will NOT get another card operated by Synchrony Bank, we will NOT support a company that clearly doesn’t support our military and understand what they go through. I called them to ask why and was first told I did not use enough. Always paid them off and had a zero balance, no missed payments. It hurt my credit, in fact dropped my score by about 30 points. Second account, CareCredit, was about 9 years old. never missed paying it off. All of a sudden got a notice that my address must have changed, and needed corrected. I called to update it and was told account closed. Reason was address, and that credit score dropped. They are the ones that caused a drop in score and because they closed this account, credit score again went down.
In checking with the credit bureau I was told this alleged bank lowered the limit prior to closing the account. My score dropped another 50 points in a two month period. I am not even sure they are a actual bank. 9 years and I think I had one missed payment in all those years. Bottom line is they are unethical in their practice and for whatever reason have done this others. To me it is an ethical problem, where they have poor leadership! I wonder if they are a bank, then why is there not a remedy within the banking commission. This group is worse than the old Washington Mutual and some of their practices where the Government had to finally step in... Then they turn around 6 months later or less and "review" your account, pull another report and if your credit score is less than when you first applied they reduce your credit limit without telling you and then claim they mailed out the letter 2 days prior to you calling them. They did this to my Lowe's and Toys R Us card. The limit was not a lot since I am a first-time credit card holder however, the point is they mess with your credit score/report every time they do this. Recently, a loan (I co-signed for with my now ex-husband 6 years ago) was reported as having a late payment. The financial institution never once notified me of any missed payments. I only found out, when I received a notice from Credit Karma that my score on my credit report change! Immediately after learning there was a problem I quickly took action and got the account fixed and current.
Unfortunately, that financial institute (which is another bank altogether) was unapologetic for the damage they had done to my credit and refuses to remove the negative remark from my report. To add insult to injury, what does Synchrony do? As I pay my credit cards with them off, they begin closing my accounts and reducing my available credit to the balance left on the card, further damaging my credit by making it appear that my cards are maxed out! I DID have very good credit for many years, spent a long time working hard on it since I was young, & saw my sister go through credit issues. Have always been careful, my spouse was impressed with my credit rating when he found out! All those years, all shot with a very horrible, seemingly unending dispute between my bank & Amazon over many mysterious charges. This resulted in the bank ruling in our favor, & crediting our account, apparently not in Amazon's favor. I then received an e-mail from Amazon that my account was frozen & that I owed them $40. I didn't know why, & couldn't of course log in to my account to determine anything.
Then I received a collection letter from Synchrony bank saying that I had an Amazon credit card, & that I owed over $500! I was astounded. Again, I couldn't log into my account, but had already alerted Amazon about the first mistake, then about this one, & of course both times was told that I owed them money, & there'd be no resolution until they received it. Turned out the amount totaled the entire amount that our bank had credited us from Amazon, but how was Amazon able to begin using a credit card in my name, without any knowledge, authorization from me, & use it over & over again on orders on an account that was frozen & that I could not use & had been told by Amazon when it was frozen that I would not be able to buy/order anything from them anymore! I cannot log into the account still for any of my account information, but do still have these emails.
I've tried discussing with Synchrony & Amazon with no luck, & have received reports about my credit being demolished, so I asked for a freeze on my credit while the issue is being disputed. I've no clue what I can do, but after reading so many other reviews (after the fact!!!) I hope that others will take caution with Amazon, or any stores, anything with their credit, & keep all of your info logged, receipts, & emails, & double copy everything, & when it comes to financial/security issues, be cautious first, instead of trusting. Be careful. I doubt individuals who can't buy out a business or government can win against a company like Amazon, so hold on to anything that should be secure, & don't ever let your guard down. I've learned a valuable, yet disheartening lesson, & God only knows where it will go from here!

I am not sure what to call this letter, a Complaint/dispute. Writing this with utmost frustration and disappointment on Synchrony Bank. A Bank that works without proper process is what comes in my mind as I think about my experience with this bank. I applied for Walmart Credit card which was instantly approved and given a credit line of $500. While submitting the application I forgot to include the apartment number in the address field and hence I called up Walmart/Synchrony again to update it. But I am not sure why it was considered as fraud. Anyways some random guy from Synchrony Fraud department called me and said they have put a hold on my account until I share them my address and ID proof. He asked me to wait for the correspondence I may receive from Synchrony Bank to send the proofs. And as per the instructions from him I waited for further communication from Synchrony Bank.
Meanwhile I happened to visit the Old Navy store and came across their credit card features and applied for that in store and boo! It was instantly approved, and a piece of paper was given to me with the approved credit line of $1000. I was not initially aware that both Walmart and Old Navy are handled by Synchrony Bank. After this incident I got a letter from Synchrony Bank saying that my accounts at Walmart and Old Navy are closed as they are unable to verify my SSN and address. I still did not receive any correspondence from Synchrony bank as the customer care guy from Fraud department said. I was so confused about what is happening. I owe Old Navy some amount and hence I called up Old Navy to check what is happening and how I make the payment for the things that I purchased the other day. They said I would receive a statement by the end of this month with an account number to make the payment online.
I asked the lady what is wrong and why my account was closed. She said Synchrony Bank couldn't verify my details and hence the account has been closed. How confusing and frustrating it is? Extreme confusion came in again via post in my mailbox the very next day! I have received a Walmart Credit card. YAY??? What I am expected to do? And how I am expected to react for this? How a BANK could be so irresponsible to put the account on hold first, ask for proof then close my account, then send the credit card home??? And again, I got the correspondence from Synchrony Bank the customer care guy said! From Synchrony Fraud Dept asking for my address and id proof! What is possibly happening here? Because of the Synchrony banks fault, I have lost almost 100 points in my credit score at no cost!!!
Now I am least bothered about the credit accounts that were closed. But because of the SYNCHRONY BANK's mismanagement why should I lose my credit scores??? Not obviously at bank's cost!!! What am I to do with the Walmart credit card I have received now??? If a bank doesn't have proper proofs to approve a credit account, why was the account opened in the first place? I cannot possibly come up with the proper words to explain my extreme frustration!!! I have sent my proofs as well. I am penning this letter just because my credit score has been compromised because of YOUR bank's irresponsibility! If there is any online consumer complaint place for such actions, I am going to make sure that I share my experience. In the social sites too! This is the second time this has happened and the reason I was given is because “a large amount was paid at one time” REALLY? Isn’t that a good thing? After calling and complaining for a second time the account was miraculously freed up from the hold. I love my Amazon but will no longer use this shady card. If I could give it a negative score I would!!! CONSUMER BEWARE!!!

I dislike Synchrony Bank because they lower your credit limit as you pay off a credit card. This, in turn, reduces your credit score. That's what makes them predatory lenders. What business, in good faith, does this to consumers they value? NONE! I wouldn't be surprised if they are out of business in five years. There is consumer power that will make that happen. A bank can't keep devaluing customers and expect to get away with it with no consequences.

They have harassed me night and day and even on Sundays sometimes calling five times or more a day! They ruined my credit and are horrible people. Synchrony Bank is perpetuating a major scam on credit cardholders which not only forces the cardholder to use their cards but penalizes cardholders if they don’t. If you are trying to rebuild your credit and obtain credit from a retail establishment (Wal-Mart, Lowe's, America’s Tire, etc) that is actually backed by Synchrony Bank beware of the trap they will set to lure you into ruining your credit score and paying them higher interest rates.
If you initially charge a purchase on the new “store card” and subsequently pay it off in a few months and then keep $0 balance on the card for a year, Synchrony will first reduce your credit limit on the card (first hit on your credit score) and then subsequently cancel the card (second hit on your credit score) WITHOUT ANY NOTICE TO YOU. All because you thought you were being a good consumer by limiting your spending on credit. Then when you use any of the other Synchrony credit cards they will inform you that your credit score has dropped and they are limiting your credit limit or increasing your interest rate. This not fantasy, but reality as it has happened to me today. No missed payments, no outstanding balance, no charge offs. Just a $0 balance for 12 consecutive months.
This is a scam. Avoid using Synchrony Bank at all costs. They are not transparent with their actions or decisions. They penalize people who either do not want or need to use their credit limits and then charge a higher rate to do business with their cards. I think this is what they used to call loan sharking. Today, I think they call it banking customer service.

Even AFTER I told them MULTIPLE times that I dispute the charges, and I dispute the order, they refused to recognize possible fraud. I even got a police report. After having my "R"Us Credit card for just under a year, I had been late on payments at least one time that I can remember. However I kept the card in good standing, I had paid off the card on November 24, 2017. I was current on the account. We were unable to use the card, I didn't think anything of it. Well we went to use the card today, and it was declined. When I called, they stated they closed the Account on 12/19/2017 due to Credit History. I have been doing my best to build my credit, however I had taken out a Winter/Christmas Loan for the Holidays which lowered my credit a little bit. I called to try to get the account reopened, they told me they only care about their company.
While Companies can do what they want, if an account is in good standing there is no reason for them to review and cancel an account. They told me they can't restore the account, and more or less told me to screw off because it's in their terms of Service. So I would recommend you stay away from this company, I know once my Care Credit Card is paid off I plan to cancel it and get as far away from this company as I can.

I have two accounts with Synchrony Bank. (Lowe's) 2 years, (Wal-Mart) 4years. Tried to lower my minimum amount due from direct withdraw, they both made me un-enroll and re-enroll just to change the amount, next payment cycle... Then what the lady on the phone told me was it was all good. The next payment would come out on the scheduled date, next payment cycle late fees, past due, delinquent account and 2 phone calls per-day for the next 3-4 days but I can't do anything about it because they are not available on weekends.
Had to wait till MON while the calls with automated systems all weekend long not fun. Don't even want to recount the phone conversations where it was "script"...Script....script. Wouldn't it be better to actually listen to your customer and figure out why the problem happened and fix it? Plus I was told the late fees were removed but while they were in place, that elevated the total amount due so my minimum amount due would increases on this payment. So the only way to get my account current was to pay a higher minimum amount due. SCAM. After a combined 6 years with no problems always paid my bill on time and what I owed... Wow nice way to be treated. Both accounts are closed. They will be paid off and never used.

Synchrony Bank is ruining my credit! I have 3 credit cards from them and I always pay on time and more than the amount due. Recently they lowered the limits on all 3 credit cards stating derogatory things on my credit. Those "derogatory" things were on there when they gave me all 3 credit cards! They also cited "too many inquiries" on my credit report but Synchrony Bank is the only one pulling my credit! I paid off Old Navy and they sent me a letter stating they were closing my account! Now I'm worried they will close my Amazon and Walmart accounts after I pay them off. I worked very hard re-establishing my credit after a bankruptcy 5 years ago and Synchrony Bank is ruining everything I have worked for. They lowered my credit limit to just under what I owe on Amazon and Walmart and it looks like I've maxed them out because of that!
I got a second job recently and I've been making 2 credit card payments every month now to pay them off. I called customer service to ask why they are doing this and that I've got a excellent payment history and the Customer Service representative said "I can see that but we sent you a letter explaining why." And I told her the letter is false and my credit has not changed since Synchrony Bank first gave me the cards which, by the way, was only last year! After reading all the same complaints by people just like me all over the Internet, why hasn't the Attorney General's Office stepped in and helped us?
This Synchrony Bank was formerly GE Bank and they changed their name in 2014 after settling a multimillion dollar lawsuit in which they "admitted no wrong-doing." They have also settled for discrimination against credit issues with Hispanics last year. All this is public information, Google it. I wish I had researched Synchrony Bank before accepting the credit cards. My credit score has taken a real beating because of them. Please, someone help us!

I was unable to use the services and wanted a full refund and his office gave me the run-around and when I filed a dispute with CareCredit they never represented me. His office sent in some partial records and they went along with them leaving me a balance for services not rendered of $590. I was Furious. Synchrony Bank and Care Credit was not in unity and it was a mess. Yesterday I went to the chiropractor's office and saw him directly and he told me his staff had never told him the circumstances and he apologized profusely and wrote me a check for the balance of $590 for the refund. Okay so I'm one of those people that don't always read all of the terms when applying for a credit card because obviously I'm applying for it because I need it at the time. I also have revolving credit I will pay down my balance and reuse it when need be. Well since mostly all of my credit card account switched over to Synchrony Bank I have had nothing but issues with this company. They keep lowering my credit limit for no reason as well as my husband. I called about one account asking why it was lowered because I needed it for medical reasons and they really couldn't give me an answer. So I close the one card that I had paid everything off on. It's a start right. I have been paying the balances down on both mine and my husband's card so that we could have something available for Christmas this year. I went to check my credit score and his and noticed my credit limit and balances were the same.
So they decreased our credit limit again to the balance, one had $7 over. WTH. I just don't understand how they can do this especially since both of our credit scores had improved by at least 10/20 points since applying for these cards in the first place. Anyhow now my credit score has dropped because my debt to ratio has increased. So them saying that it's not impacting my credit score is a lie because it does every time they report a change and lower my credit score. I feel this company is manipulating laws to work in their favor by the wording of their contract. I will from now on read the contracts before applying for any credit cards and once my balances are paid on my synchrony accounts I will be closing my accounts with them. I really hope Karma bites them in the butt and they get caught and sued for all of the crap the stress they have caused people. AVOID THIS COMPANY if able to. I have more going out in bills than I have coming in. I'm sorry I lost my job and had to take one that's a $15K/year pay cut. Yes, it's gotta be much harder on Synchrony Bank than on me that I'm no longer earning what I earned.
If I can't make my minimum, they will assess a late fee. Which is great, because I was looking for another bill to have to pay. Super. And at the end of the web chat, the rep had the audacity to ask me if he could help me with anything else. YOU DIDN'T HELP ME AT ALL. They act like I'm using this card to go out and buy shoes, and be a globetrotter. No, I'm using it for non-cosmetic dental work. Most recent charge? Emergency root canal.
I understand that they are a business and have to make their money, but I'm at a point where it's either bills or food. And it's a choice I have to make every month. Are we eating dinners, or are we just having some toast? Am I paying this bill, or am I paying my car payment? Absolutely zero compassion. I went through a financial hardship several months ago and had to skip 2 of my Amazon card payments (which is through Synchrony Bank), but as soon as I got back on my feet I made the regular payments and then recently a large $500 payment. We use the card regularly so I made another $350 payment to bring the balance down to only a couple hundred dollars this month. How do they reward you? By holding your payment hostage for over a week to "verify it isn't fraud" (even though it was made with the same account we ALWAYS pay it with, and they didn't do it when I made the $500 payment last month???), and lowering your credit limit MONTHS after the last delinquency. They didn't lower it after the $500 payment last month though (which brought the balance down to only $200). No, they waited until I made the $350 payment this month to do it.
I had to spend almost 30 minutes on the phone with their customer service (which is outsourced to Asia) just to get even a semblance of a straight answer out them. We use the card all the time, and now they won't be getting a penny from me in interest ever again. I'll leave it open so it won't hurt my credit, but I'll probably never use it again for more than an obligatory $10 purchase every couple months to keep it alive (which will promptly be paid off to avoid them earning any interest). My boyfriend also has a card with them with a much larger limit and he will no longer be using it either. I know a few hundred dollars doesn't really hurt their bottom line, but it's the principle.

On 4/26/2009 I cosigned a CareCredit account for my son so that he could get some dental work done. The credit line was set at $3000.00. On 8/28/2017 my son passed away unexpectedly at age 34. On 9/18/2017 I contacted Synchrony Financial to find out the balance of the CareCredit account and take care of the account. I discovered that the credit line had been increased to $6400.00 at some point and I had not been notified. They state that they sometimes increase credit lines without notification. There is no way that my son's credit rating would have qualified the increase, he was struggling financially.
They must have done the increase based on my credit rating and did not contact me as the cosigner. I am more than willing to pay the $3000.00 that I cosigned for, however they are telling me that I must pay the entire amount owed which is $6,222.91. They said that the account does not qualify for any assistance. I was only able to get to a second level in management and was told that no one higher on the chain is available by phone. This is a terrible company that takes advantage of people in need of medical care and charges 26.99% interest on the accounts.

I had an Old Navy store card that got automatically upgraded to a Visa card, and they closed my store card account. Apparently, some charges were pending or they just transferred a balance to the closed card, and now I can't make payments on that closed account at all. They send me NOTICE OF RIGHT TO CURE DEFAULT letters in snail mail and email, and even when I make a payment with a customer service rep over the phone, the payment gets posted to my Visa account within 48 hours. So I have a credit on my Visa account while my closed account still has an overdue warning. I've made an official CFPB complaint but haven't heard anything yet. What's worse is that their site can only be accessed with Internet Explorer, and when I click Chat with a Representative it logs me out. Seriously incompetent across the board. I will NEVER ever in a million years do business with Synchrony again.

So of course I was prequalified to receive a Walmart and BP credit which are ran by the same bank. BP mysteriously sent a letter decreasing my 500 limit 6 months after only having for 6 months. What's funny about this is that I had paid the crap off and then utilized 180 of it on a road trip. And upon my return I saw the credit line decreased to the actual current balance used which was a slap in my face. I didn't think too much into it because it was a low credit card and just got it canceled. Their reasoning was that my credit was bad with too many accounts and blah blah blah! Now I had thought about paying my Walmart off but thought maybe they will pull the same crap as BP and what would you know, after paying it off and spending about 180 my limit decreased to 200 with the same tired reasons that BP offered. But now I'm calling BS!
Walmart actually gave me a credit line increase last Christmas which I thought was sneaky of them and actually at a time where my credit utilization was maxed. So now for some reason you cut my credit limit by over a thousand dollars when my credit score has much improved from that 500 score you prequalified me off of! And then you do it at a time when Equifax has a security breach!!! This is very fishy. And to top it all off while they were decreasing my limits, every last credit I have increased my credit limit and they have never decreased it so what's really good? And I paid all my bills on time, NEVER A LATE PAYMENT! So are you mad because I never maxed out my cards and have you drown me in interest rates for years?
Beware of this card because no one has time to wonder when they will decrease your credit limit because there is no given time frame for when they'll decide to start messing with your credit!!! Needless to say I better pay this 180 before my next billing cycle so they won't think I've maxed out my limit which it will technically look like! A closed account continues to measure credit utilization too which sucks sort of!

I have had endless issues trying to access my accounts as Synchrony bank consistently tries to prove my identity by sending a text or call to a phone number that has not been associated with my person for over 7 and a half years. First, when I was initially trying to register to access my account and each subsequent attempt after. I will be closing my account because what is the purpose of a savings account if you cannot access the account?

1st of all, I was not aware that Synchrony was the bank associated with all of my bigger credit cards. In fact, I had them for a very long time before I realized it. I always paid my bills on time, but stupid me, got them to a ridiculous amount to the point I could not pay them anymore. So, I decided to close them, and did a balance transfer with another company (Discover) and with a much lower interest amount. Most people who are just like me, never look to see what bank the card is affiliated with!!! Synchrony has the worse interest rate, no matter how good your credit might be. I finally feel free and less stressed with Discover taking care of getting me back on track, and helping me keep my fair rating to good and very good, hopefully soon. DO NOT USE SYNCHRONY BANK!! Yes I am yelling, as I want all to hear!!

I have never had much luck with any of their customer service agents in resolving issues. Agents are incompetent. The latest was a purchase through a Kraft Music who offered Mysynchrony interest free financing. Kraft Music walks me through Mysynchrony 12 month "interest free" financing. set up auto-pay minimum payment and Mysynchrony will automatically calculate the monthly payments to avoid interest. This was the Yamaha financing which should have been the same as HOME DESIGN - CE / APPL / SYNCB offered by Sweetwater Sound which does accurately calculate out interest free payments. But it does not. The 12 month became an 18 month and the minimum payments were $36 short of the required monthly payment to avoid interest charges. I contacted their customer service and had to sit through a lengthy automated review of my account which I already was aware of.
The automated operator continued without any direct access to customer service. After several minutes after yelling "customer service" the system finally responded. I was told that there would be a customer survey at the end that the representative would not be aware of. I was finally connected with a customer service woman that I could barely understand due to her mumbling and a baby crying in the background. She was obviously working from home. I told her the information and she had problems understanding the issue. She refused to acknowledge that the minimum payments were not accurately calculated and that the loan term was incorrect.
I manually adjusted the payments and she was supposed to hang up after the call so that I could take the survey. She apparently knew about the survey and intentionally kept the line open until the system automatically hung up - so I could not even give my negative input. Summary: the bank has set the system up to trick customers into interest payments.

When my wife applied for a credit account via Synchrony Financial, who for some reason changed their previous name from "GE Care Credit", they asked me for my information as well to verify since she is not a U.S. citizen. Synchrony Financial ILLEGALLY SWITCHED the account information to my name when I wasn't the original applicant.
For weeks I have been trying to contact them to advise them of the UNLAWFUL change of contract without either of our consent. Their "customer service" is located in India, who has no clue about Contract Law in the United States and they refuse to remove the ILLEGALLY ALTERED contract from my name. This is a red flag WARNING to NOT TRUST the India-based company, who like all other scams in India, steal your money, your identity, and say, "There is nothing we can do", which is the only thing India-based customer service companies ever tell customers. DO NOT USE OR SUPPORT this scam-bank from India.

I had a credit card through Synchrony Bank for Banana Republic and Belk and had these cards for many years. In January 2016 my accounts were delinquent by just a few days. However, as soon as I realized I had not paid these bills, I made the payments and my accounts were both current. In November 2016, I paid off both of these cards in full. Since November of 2016 I have not received any further correspondence from Synchrony Bank until August of 2017 when I received 2 letters stating these accounts had been closed due to "severe delinquency" and this information was reported to the credit bureaus which negatively affected my credit score.
I verified with my financial institution that these payments, in fact, cleared my account and payments were made to the appropriate accounts. I then attempted to contact Synchrony Bank for explanation but was told "it is what it is" and they hung up on me. I then contacted the credit bureaus and was told the same thing. I filed a complaint against Synchrony Bank with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to which Synchrony Bank responded that this was "proper and accurate reporting".
It had been 18 months since the initial delinquency, which was immediately corrected and nearly 10 months after my accounts were both paid in full. My advice to all consumers thinking about applying for any credit card handled by Synchrony Bank is... DON'T! If you have credit cards through Synchrony Bank now, my advice is to pay them off in full as soon as possible and close them immediately so that you don't become another victim of their atrocious business and credit reporting practices. I would love to see an attorney who actually cares about consumer credit affairs to start a class action lawsuit against Synchrony Bank and possibly shut them down for good.

When I purchased furniture at Ashley Furniture, I signed up for the 1 year no interest promotional financing. After 6 months I started being charge interests. When I contacted Synchrony, they explained Ashley entered it as 6 month not 12 months. Which I understand that I need to take it up with Ashley. So I in turn paid off that full balance plus $50, except for another balance from 12 months promotions item I purchased a month before. I am currently on autopay. I just happen to look at my statement today. What I found was an interest charge of $11.51, I understood the fact that was interest billed after the current statement at the time of pay off.
THIS IS THE SKETCHY PART. I was paying $27 a month auto payment. On my statement it was showing a $2.00 charge for interest Month after month. It was interest on the interest that I had been charged. When I checked my statement I notice that the interest balance went up exactly $2 and nothing was subtracted from that balance on each payment. (in other words they deliberately kept raising the balance, so I would keep having to pay a $2 charge) When I called their customer service I asked them why, they explained that 80 to 90% of the payment goes to the promotional financing the other 10 to 20% goes to non promotional.
I asked then why has nothing been allocated to the non promotions financing. She explained that systems sometimes does it every other month. So I asked them why wasn't any funds allocated for 5 months, she said that is just the system. SCAM ALERT. So in conclusion Synchrony Financial has a system set up to deliberately charge their card holders $2 a month. Now that doesn't seem like much but if they have hundreds of thousands of card holder that's a big chunk of change. I guess Wells Fargo is not the only financial institution scamming their members.

The Interest rate of 29.9% is of course ridiculous, but it is 0% interest as long as you pay it off w/in parameters. Here's what I take issue with. Synchrony only allows you to use a checking or savings account free of charge. If you use a debit or credit card, which you cannot do online, you have to call to have associate process the payment for $10! Really!!! This company is in the business to gouge people. And that's confirmed after reading the thousands of reviews. Attn Synchrony weenies! May you drown in karma!

PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BECOME ANOTHER VICTIM. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with! I cannot create an account to pay online. Every time I chose my log in info, they make you log in once you created, but then tells you your login is incorrect, and then you create another one and it tells you the same and this happens over and over again.
If you are late on your payment, just once the late fee you are charged is the same amount as your minimum amount due. So if you pay $25 a month and you are late then you are charged $25. So it's as if you didn't even make a payment at all. I know some people will argue and say "well don't be late", but hey, unfortunately things happen, but the amount of the late fee they charge you is absolutely crazy! You can even pay half of you entire bill in one month and if you are even 5 minutes late next month, you're charged a ridiculously high late fees and then they raise your monthly minimum payment. And for some reason there is always more balance due each month when I calculate for what my next payment will be, it's always more.
And of course their customer service, I am sure you can imagine how nice they are, not! They're rude and don't listen to what you have to say and just don't care! Once I am done paying this off, I will never ever ever use them again. There are other options out there that I have used. And they don't charge you out the ** for late fee! DO NOT BE ANOTHER VICTIM, KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER WAY!

The worst service and least user friendly app I have ever encountered. I have been trying to reset my password multiple times so I can pay online. Not only is it NOT allowing me to reset my password after I populated my account, last 4 digits of my social and God knows how much more info. It does not allow me and I have to go through grilling security questions which then lock me out. THEN, when I call customer service, their answer for the past 5 times was, well, you have to wait 30 minutes and then go back to the ** website so the same thing would happen again.
The last agent I spoke to actually said, "I don't know why this is happening but it's something you have to do." Great customer service when the service agents that work for the company don't even know themselves why it's prompting me to go over the same routine over and over and over again without reaching the final result which is, I JUST WANT TO SIGN INTO MY ACCOUNT SO I CAN PAY. I can't wait to pay it off within a few month, by calling the stupid automated system so I can actually close this account and make sure that whoever I know gets my take on this and never sign up.
