I will never use them or recommend them to anybody. They don’t tell the price to do your taxes until they are done. $150 to input one W-2, so maybe 10 to 15 minutes max. Went in because I needed the rapid refund, only to be told at the end I couldn’t get the rapid refund because it was less than $1000. If this place had any kind of decency, they would advise you to maybe do it at home because it would save you a lot of money. After speaking to the manager, they offered me coupons for next years taxes. They can take those coupons and shove them somewhere else. Never use H&R Block for anything!?

First I had told the person preparing my taxes several times when we are at the banking part of the refund. I looked up and she said we were all done!!!! The INcorrect information to a third party bank card that has been canceled and extremely difficult to get a person because the phone number is only a recording. That is where my refund is going! She said through H&R that they could “possibly“ change it!!!! But no guarantees and probably would go to closed account. That was all she could do and while trying to get her to do something about this took 45 minutes longer and I missed early overtime and was now looking at being late for work ALL for the price of $145.00!!!! I can’t describe how upset I am and was a very hard lesson (probably won’t get my refund) to NEVER NEVER return to H&R Block.

Total racketeering, I have a credit score of 668 and no late or missed payments on ANYTHING. I am absolutely disgusted and will be shaming them to everyone I know as well as people I don’t.

I used H&R Block’s web based tax preparation service, including the extras, expert advice, peace of mind, etc., I immediately paid their invoice in full when it was presented, $273. I noticed when I printed my personal documents, that invoice showed an amount still owing and they were refusing to e-file my returns. Using the web based system provides, absolutely NO communication with ANY support short of your paid advisor, via a seldom functioning “Message Center”. Through here I was able to find out that “BLOCK” had miscalculated sales tax leaving me underpaid $3.08! No problem, I’ll pay it. Yes, huge problem! They have no avenue available for me to pay. They don’t know what to do. Meanwhile, my $273 and 3 returns are being held captive, and I have what the little boy shot at! AVOID BLOCK AT ALL COSTS!!!

I filed my tax returns with H&R Block. What a scam they're! They never told me how much it would cost me until at the very end. For two W2s I was charged $500, which was a quarter of my federal refund. As if that wasn't enough, H&R Block held on to my refund for as long as they could when the IRS released it. The IRS released the money almost a week ago and told me I should get it BY FEBRUARY 13. Today is February 12, the money is still not there. It is the first time my refund has taken this long after being released by the IRS. If you can, use a free service at an IRS office or local library or a private tax return preparer.

I want to warn everyone NOT to use H&R Block in Canton. They did not quote me a price up front. When I asked for the price the tax associate said they had to see what documents I was filing before I could have a price...which was given to me after the work was done. I didn't walk out because I felt they had already rendered a service. The manager said I could of walked out...Really? Beware, they nickel and dime you for everything. My bill was almost $500. I filed single with one 1099 and two W2's. My past accountant charged me $250 max. When I called and complained the manager said she believed me when I said I was not quoted a price upfront but only offered me $50 refund. Unacceptable! They are a rip off and I will use another TAX PROFESSIONAL NEXT YEAR.

I chose the FREE tax filing, but because I have an HSA through my employer, they automatically upgraded me to a "deluxe" package that I couldn't get rid of. The deluxe package is $29.99. Then they charged me $35.99 to file my state taxes, but I have a student loan repayment credit that made me ineligible for online filing. Meaning I still have to file the state taxes physically. The email they sent me says "all sales final, no refunds or returns." It also says "write a review for your purchase" but there's no place to do that. By the way, they encourage you to put your money on an Emerald Mastercard. Or they'll buy an Amazon Gift Card on your behalf. Both of those things sound scammy as hell! I chose FREE and they charged me $67. Absolute waste of money. Do not use H&R Block.

Spent a good 6 hr chatting with 3 or 4 different ones before getting a workaround. Couldn't get a definitive answer on whether they would fix or not. So beware Iowa railroad retirees, double check if you use H&R Block. I don't care which tax software/online company you use, it helps to have an understanding of where figures should end up.

When entering my deductions for a home office business, there is nowhere to enter office supplies or telephone use, that I can find. I have used this program for many years, and never had a problem, but this year is the pits. Also, wanted to see if it would be best to file separately from my husband, so used their guide to determine this and it had our entries all mixed up. His Federal taxes paid were listed as mine, etc. So, I decide to access customer support, and all I can find are a bunch of canned answers to questions I don't have. Next year I'll pay the few dollars more for Turbo Tax...

I thought this would be easy to file online. I signed up with an account and at first was straightforward. Then after I got to the part where you put in your W2 info I selected that and put in my wages, taxpayer ID, etc. Then at the very end it asked for a code? No explanation of what a code was? There was a help file and when I typed it in...it just came back with there are different types of codes...but again no explanation. I looked all over my W2 and there is no code number. So then after 10 minutes of frustration I thought I could leave it off and call someone. However, then found out there is no "save" function, which is ridiculous as I imagine many people might want to save the file if they needed to come back later to finish it. So I just exited it and lost the 20 minutes of all the info I wasted putting in my info online. No chat, email, or phone number to ask a question. Don't even bother with this.

I have used their software for decades, never any problems. This year the CD loaded a program which will not allow me to print schedule 1040 without printing 6 additional pages of schedules. That's six pieces of paper and the ink to print them getting wasted. When I go to "forms", select "1040", it shows "1040 and schedules 1 through 6". BUT, I cannot print 1040 without printing those unnecessary 6 extra pages. When the print dialog window comes up, only option is to "print all". They need to change the software so that I can choose "print pages" and type in the ones I want to print. It seems to me that any one of their programmers could fix this in about 15 minutes, so, HOW ABOUT FIXING IT???

My husband and I just got back from H&R Block very unhappy and confused. It showed us 2 different things. First page 3,200 is what we were getting back then she clicked the next page and it said we would be getting back 2,800 and on top of that she lays it on us because we filed for our 1 year old that the fee was gonna be $400. That was very unexpected and frustrating so We asked what that 3,200 was and why it went down to 2,800 without an explanation. She said she wasn't sure and that it might have been another tax deduction. We get in our car and look thru the paperwork and that 3,200 is not in there anywhere so why was it on the computer and not in our paperwork. We will be filing elsewhere for our 2019 refund. Too many questions un-answered and a ridiculous unexpected fee towards the end.

Buyer be aware... I went to H&R Block because they were advertising $59 online to do tax prep in the local office. After 2 hours of watching the women fumble around on the keyboard and telling me how awful the new tax changes are she finished up by saying that will be $402... What? What happened to the special? She showed me this laminated card that didn't make any sense either because the prices went from $59 to $189. Scam. The true irony is that I am getting $65 dollars back for federal and owe $65 to the state but now I questioning the H&Rs ability because she listed me as single instead of head of household - a $4000. I went to H&R Block to file my taxes like I have done every single year for almost 20 years. I have ALWAYS applied and received a refund anticipation loan. Because of the stupid PATH Act that is totally screwing over people who get Earned income credit and Child Tax Credit by NOT even issuing tax refunds for these people until February 27th AT THE EARLIEST I really needed this RAL more than you know. I get all the way through the tax preparation and everything, pay over $400 in tax preparation fees and the fee they charge for the refund anticipation loan, to receive a text message and an hour and a half later telling me that Axos bank denied my refund anticipation loan, solely based on my credit.

This is a scam and it's so unbelievably unfair, because the people who need these RAL are poor or low income and almost all of them have children or are getting earned income credit, so knowing that they won't even be able to get their taxes until February 27th at the earliest makes the refund anticipation loan needed even more. And to have this stupid Bank denying People based solely on their credit because poor people and low-income people don't have the greatest credit to begin with no. It's just a scam. Do not get suckered like I did and waste money on this crap because you won't get approved and you'll just be sitting around kicking yourself in the head for getting screwed with a ridiculous amount of fees from H&R Block for nothing. I will not be returning to H&R Block to get my taxes filed ever again!

Filed taxes yesterday January 28th 2019 and was told that I should receive money in my account via direct deposit within 24 hours. I noticed I hadn't received a deposit. I called to find out I was denied. I asked why and the representative told me that they are given a reason why and told me I could call the bank and gave me a number of **. I call that number and am asked to put in my social security number and get a message that this number is not recognized. So I call H&R back to tell them this and have been on hold now for 25 minutes.

Then I inquire about how long it will take and I get told that the government has a backlog for people with dependents and earned income credit and that those applications won't be processed until February 15th in the order they are received. My conclusion. H&R Block is working with the government. I did not have this problem last year with Jackson Hewitt. This is bull. I have never been denied a loan on my taxes. Activation Code for Free E-Filing Really works. When I filed my taxes for my daughter I got an error that the free E-file was not a valid code. I called H&R Block and they gave me a new one to use. However I just filed my taxes yesterday and what you need to do when you submit the filing is get rid of the "-" that is automatically populated by the software with that code. That "-" is what is causing the file to say it is not a valid code. The reason why I tried again after I talked to H&R Block they told me not to include the "-" in the new code that they gave me. So when I filed mine I decided to try the activation code that was given to me with the software and it did work. I hope this helps people because I was quite frustrated with having to figure this out.

Then found out it does a credit check not based on the amount you're getting back but they have to file before they tell you whether you're approved or not. To be hit with two fees. One for filing and one using having direct deposit. I kinda expected the fee for filing because I must file 1099, but the hiding fees equating to roughly $100.00 before I hit submit, sent me for a loop.

After 7 months and 3 trips to the office to do the claim we finally get a notice from H & R Block saying our claim from the Peace of Mind was denied, because we signed the agreement saying only 1 W2 was filed. I tried to explain that that was not the case but because the adviser did not add the $$$, but they had all the forms and paperwork showing that the W4 was there. They refuse to pay the IRS, so now we have to pay. Will never use or recommend H&R BLOCK EVER OR TO ANYONE. Terrible service.

Back in 2015 an H&R rep (Devin from the Evanston, IL branch) helped us to prepare our taxes and made a big mistake that went unnoticed by him or the software. He included my wife's W2 as mine, based on which the tax forms calculated that I had a social security overpayment and was due a refund. This was not correct and, 1.5 years later we received the dreaded letter from the IRS that we needed to pay an additional $X in taxes plus additional late fees and interest.

A very helpful tax preparer (Ann ** from Wilmette, IL branch) at H&R block did help us to figure out what was rightfully owed to the IRS. Based on her assessment we still owed money but less than the $X the IRS felt was owed. She helped us to send the IRS a response letter with modified tax forms indicating the amount she felt was owed plus appropriate late fees and expected interest based on the date of the response and a check. At that time Anne successfully processed a Peace of Mind Claim to refund the interest and fees we paid.

Unfortunately, because we were paying less than the $X that the IRS thought we owed, it took considerable time, and additional back and forth letters, before the IRS accepted the final changes. In that process we accrued an addition $300 in late fees and interest. When we asked for a refund of the $300 under a new Peace of Mind Claim, the claim was denied with no reason for the denial. I asked the tax preparer if there was a stated policy that H&R would only pay penalties and interest one time, but received no response (moreover if this was a known policy then the accountant should have waited until final IRS notice to file the claim).

Overall, it is disgraceful that H&R finds it acceptable for us to have to pay over $300 out of pocket for a mistake that was completely their fault to start. As per a phone call we had at one point directly with the IRS, as I understand it, it is the responsibility of the tax preparer to pay fees and interest for their mistakes and if they do not then that is a reportable offense. In summary, I would NOT recommend people not use H&R Block; prior to 2015 I only used Turbotax and never had issues.

My father passed in the first few days of January 2018 so I had to file his 2017 tax return. I took it to Block Advisors where I went in and did the taxes with a gal in the Tracy, CA office and she finished the return and stated that we owed almost $12,000.00 to the IRS. I said ok because what else are you gonna say. She added that I owed Block Advisors almost 700.00 in fees to do the taxes, WOW but again, what are you gonna say! I wrote checks to the IRS and two different states and went about my business.

A few months later I received a letter from the state of Idaho stating that I owe them additional taxes. I started to just pay it when I realized that I paid Block Advisors a lot of money to do my dad's taxes so I figured I would take it to them and have them deal with it. When I took in the return to be reviewed I net a new lady by the name of Misty. She took one look and said that this return was all wrong and she could not figure out why and how the return was done the way it was. I then told her that I questioned it from the beginning and even asked the original preparer questions but she insisted it was right. I told her I felt robbed that it cost so much to have a basic tax return done. She asked how much I paid and I showed her the receipt which I believe was 680.00 and she said that was the wrong amount and they overcharged me.

I then asked how much it should have been and she said around 400.00 I asked if I could get that refunded and she told me that she was going to refund the entire amount because the return was so messed up. She said she would send the request over to her District Manager Sarah and it might take 4-6 weeks for the refund. We are now in September and this took place back around June! I sent several emails to Misty asking where my refund was and never got a response. I then called to talk to Sarah and had to leave a message for her and they stated I would have a call back in 48 hours, two days later at 3 PM.

About two hours later I had a call from the Manager in Manteca and I explained my story and she said she could not do anything about it but she would leave a message explaining my situation to Sarah and have her call me. Never heard anyone again. I filed an amendment on my father's taxes to the IRS that Block Advisors redid and the IRS owes me over $11,000.00. That is just how far off my dad's taxes were!

I called H&R Block to remind them of their commitment but I was told that I would be responsible for making the payment. I reluctantly paid. However this year, I went on eBay and bought the H&R Block software for $32 which gives updates on a regular basis.

The software has extensive notes and guides so it is very user friendly. (FYI - I filed an extension since I am a busy person but I intend to file before Sept. 12th). Nonetheless, I called H&R Block once again to verify whether I would have to pay for my taxes to get reviewed. I was told that the REVIEW WOULD BE FREE. Huuummm!!! We'll see. My money stopped coming in, even though letters from the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) stating that they were still sending money, and rebate payments as well. I got another today, 300, money was confirmed sent July 5, it is not the 16, and what a surprise, no money, call the number on the credit card they give you, and what a surprise again, they denied getting any money sent to them, and told me to take it up with CRA. Which I have been in contact with them, and they confirmed they sent the money.

This company should be shut down, they screw up tax forms, lie to customers, steal money, lie about their credit cards (our cards have no expiration date) until I brought the card into the office and showed them the date. Then they acted as if it was something new, as if no credit card has an expiration date. Not to mention the accountants they hire, hardly know a lick of English, cannot understand what you are saying, and you cannot understand what they are saying, then they fill out the wrong forms, tell you it's your fault THEY screwed up. I dealt with several of their agents and only one, Tami I believe her name was, knew her job and how to do it, had to leave several times to help accountants because, yep, they didn't know how to do accounting. WHY HAS NO ONE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS COMPANY!!!

At last, I took CA help to make the things work.

I could've paid someone cheaper to file them and taken the guesswork out. Never again! Now I'm late. They said no penalty since we get a refund but I have to call the IRS in the morning to see... Well these accounts at H&R Block and Emerald Card have been breached and they knew it and did not warn people so preventative measures could be taken, my account was emptied while I was working. I got the notification on my phone of the use of my card, I live in Ohio and my card was with me however it was used in Las Vegas! I called and got the runaround 3 times, I called the business in Las Vegas and was told my card was duplicated and swiped! I finally after several hours of trying got 3 people that could not talk English hardly at all.

We had a hard time communicating, got hung up on, and now I am being forced to prove I did not leave my job today in Ohio and travel to Nevada and home again by dinner, this will take half a month, then if they are satisfied I will get my money back on a different card they want ME to pay 35$ to activate! I do not think so! Meanwhile I have a 0.00 balance for gas to travel to work, food for kids, household needs and my electric bill! I will never do business with H&R Block or Emerald Card. If you value your money do not use these! The most dishonest and fraudulent company I have dealt with in my life!

I have filed my own taxes with H&R Block for over 20 years with never a problem. This year when I got to the place where I choose how to get my refund, there is a promotion where if I choose to get my refund on an Emerald Cash Card, I can get an extra 100$. So, OK, that sounds great. So, I wait and wait. I call H&R Block, they say wait some more. I call again, they say wait some more.

Now I'm getting nervous because I am in an unsafe situation in my living environment with children and this refund is my way out. So while I am waiting, I go to delete my emails and while flipping through deleting emails I see one titled with Amazon and H&R Block. There were 2 emails that have my "Amazon gift card claim numbers" on them. One disappears into the ether, poof! Now this is indeed news to me since I DID NOT choose to put my refund into Amazon gift cards which you can only use on Amazon. Far as I know, I can't pay my rent with Amazon gift cards.

Now, I am frantic. I call H&R Block. They say basically, too bad, you did it and there was no mistake. I say, there had to have been a mistake, there is NO WAY I would choose this option. We did that back and forth, no help, no empathy, no options, just you are stuck and I swear, I can almost hear the smirking. I ask for the supervisor. I explain my circumstances including that I did not choose gift cards, I chose the Emerald card and a mistake was made. I get back: "We can't help you. You made that choice and you will have to deal with Amazon". So, now I am waiting on Amazon to make a decision if I qualify for the extremely rare occurrence to cash out the gift cards. "Probably not" from the wonderful and supportive man named Kyle who tried very hard to help me.

H&R Block absolutely did not care. Everyone else I talked to trying to resolve this was wonderful, even a representative from TurboTax/Intuit that I was mistakenly referred to spent over an hour trying to find some way to help. This might be a scam, I don't know. If I made this choice in error, then something is wrong with the Website. I am not a stupid person and I absolutely know I never would be putting a tax refund into a gift card. The Amazon rep even said he had never seen this done before. So, whatever you do, DON'T use H&R Block! Customer service clearly means nothing. Of course I will never use them again. If anyone out there has a suggestion on how I might get my refund money, please let me know. My family is not safe where we are, but a shelter is not much better and we would lose our dogs in a very cruel way. I am desperate! Thank you.

I relied on my husband to do taxes. After his death I found H&R in my small town. First visit was ok as it was a typical filing and my agent stamped and mailed my returns setting a precedent. Next year I had bought a house moving money from an IRA which boosted my income status. This same agent called when filing was done and didn't have the guts nor the professionalism to tell me what I really owed. She told me it was 7$ grand in returns. When I got to office it was double that and she acted like it was no BIG deal. PLUS they charged me $400 for the filing as they had to use special forms!!!

I could have gone to a professional accounting firm and paid that. She kept babbling on with her co worker. Total lack of professionalism and personal appearance--WORSE YET she put my returns into the packet not telling me. I thought she had held them to mail. I waited 5 weeks as she assured me they process by 7-days. Instead I ended up paying fees to IRS due to her incompetence. This office is in NM. They did not honor paying my fees.

We have been using H&R Block for years because they were friendly and always seemed to know what they was doing plus the added peace of mind was a really good thing to have or at least we thought it. Last year on our taxes when we filed their employee forgot to add one of the W2 we had and we didn’t realize it. So this year when we filled the lady caught the mistake and told us that the one that did our taxes last year had not added all of our W2 but she assured us it should be no big deal because we had paid for the peace of mind and it would cover that so we went home and got in our folder of taxes from the year before and got the W2 and took it back up to the lady that done our taxes this year and she fixed the other person's mistake and filled a claim with peace of mind.

About a week later I received a phone call saying they wasn’t gonna cover it because I should have checked to make sure it was all entered in there which is crazy. If I pay someone 300 dollars to do taxes and take everything to them I expect them to be a professional and know what they are doing. I shouldn’t have to double check a professional's work especially when it’s something I know nothing about. I am deeply dissatisfied and would never recommend them to anyone. Now I’m left to pay 1800 on top of the 300 I paid them to file the taxes. The peace of mind is a joke. Even their employee that fixed the mistake said she could not believe they would not fix the problem and stand behind their work. I hope in the future this can prevent someone from getting robbed like I did.

Very bad experience. Filed my income tax return for 2017 in April of 2018, using the e-file system on hrblock.com. Paid extra for a tax professional to review it before finalization. Set it up for electronic withdrawal directly from my checking account. Everything was done by April 16th. Then I sat back and waited and waited and waited. No withdrawals. Finally, getting nervous, I called them a week after to make sure everything was fine, I was informed that their 'system was down' and therefore they could not pull up my file to make sure. Then I went back to waiting and waiting and waiting.

Finally, even more nervous, I called H&R Block today to find out if everything was fine. The lady pulled everything up and said it all looks 'good' on their end, they had my routing and checking no. inputted into the e-file, but they had forgotten to checkbox the 'Yes' box for withdrawal. Ok... Then I was told to call the IRS to verify if things were kosher on their end. So I did. I was shocked to discover that they had no routing or checking no. on the file that was sent to them by H&R Block, electronic withdrawal wasn't even designated on the file itself! So I had been waiting for a month and a half for a withdrawal from my checking account that was never going to come in the first friggin' place!

I had to spent over two hours altogether on hold and talking with my bank, the IRS and the state tax agency, just to get everything sorted out and paid by today. I was charged with late interest fees from the IRS and state tax agency on top of the balance due, since it was way past the filing date. Insult to injury. Terrific. Avoid if you can and/or use another agency.

Doing my taxes this year in Houston Texas for the first time since moving, I chose H & R Block. The biggest mistake of my life! The tax preparer had my refunded mailed in a check form instead of deposited in my bank account after giving her the information. Not only that, instead of putting my home address she puts my job address. Meanwhile, my job is in a shopping area called River Oaks and she did not put a suite number! How wonderful! She then told me to contact Emerald Card customer rep to change the address before it was mailed out May 2nd.

I get through to someone in customer service where I changed the address so the check is mailed to me. That night I receive an email from H & R Block stating my check was mailed and will be received in 7 days. I called that morning since the email was sent during the night and asked what address was on file and were they sure it was sent there instead of my job address. They explained they cannot see where it was sent out to but it should be the address on file. I asked can I have the check voided and just put into my account, they explained they could not and I had to wait until May 16 for the check to come to the address on file. (Which is suppose to be my home address) I spoke to the shopping center customer service to see what happens when mail has no suite and he explained they will just send it back.

Today, I get an email stating my check was sent back to H & R Block, how wonderful. Just like I thought. I call the number on the email and was very disappointed. I called back three times to speak to 3 different customer rep and 2 different supervisors. I still receive no information and do not even want to go through with my taxes anymore. They explained that I will have to fill out a form that will then take 3-5 business days to progress. I will then have to pick an option to receive my check and wait it out. Meanwhile it took 12 days to receive it. The worst part is they explained I could only get the form in person at two locations which is an hour away from my house. I have no car due to hurricane Harvey and do not know when I will be able to get the form. I was kind of depending on the money to get a new car. My daughter's birthday is in two weeks which is also not cool.

Dealing with the customer reps I have to say was the worst part. They felt no remorse of the situation and did not want to help. They never even apologize for a mistake that was made on their end and had an attitude the entire time including the supervisor. She even hung up on me! They repeated the same thing over and over again and had no information to give me. I was better off speaking to an automatic messager! I will never in my life file my taxes with this company or even get an Emerald Card. I deal with customers every day at work as a supervisor and will never treat anyone the way I was treated on the phone today. It’s disgusting that people do not do their job correctly and you are the one to pay! Next year, I will do it myself on Turbo Tax!

I should have read the reviews before choosing H&R Block for filing taxes online. We have experienced one mistake after another and poor communication. I am still going in circles trying to get some significant mistakes corrected, yet they have already charged my debit card. My husband and I filed our taxes jointly, and he was listed as primary tax holder. That said, when I created the account with H&R Block I had my name, phone number, and email listed as primary contact because I have been handling all our tax documents.

When questions came up, the tax preparer consistently contacted my husband and not me, and he did not have all the tax information readily available and had to tell them to reach out to me, which they did... eventually. Additionally, when I initially submitted documents and first began the online process, there was nowhere on the website to input our child's SSN and a couple of other important data elements, resulting in yet more phone tag.

The most egregious mistake, however, is that I accidentally uploaded a 2016 W2 instead of a 2017 W2, and the preparer did NOT notice or catch the error. Instead, she completed the return with the wrong form. Any preparer who is paying attention should have immediately noticed that the form was for the wrong year, and she should have asked if we really meant to submit that document.

She totally missed it, and I did not have any knowledge of the (now compounded) mistake until I went online to approve/reject the return and found that the income was wrong by a significant amount. Another representative looked at my rejection comments and quickly identified the problem, but again, I did not receive a notification that she had responded because - despite my being told they had corrected the contact information - they emailed my husband instead of me, and it went to his spam folder, and I didn't think to look there. In short, it's mid-May and we are STILL trying to get all the errors corrected so that we can submit our return. I also feel strongly that we should not have been charged the full amount of $389 to prepare the return. This experience has been a disaster.

Right from the beginning when I entered their office I felt it wasn't very professional. I explained to the agent that I have been approved to claim over the counter eye drops and gel for my disability. Every year I do a detailed spreadsheet with my medical claims and attach receipts. I have been doing this for over 10 years and the government has approved this. My first surprise was when I asked how much I would be charged and couldn't believe they were charging me almost $200, (this was after they had done the taxes). The next clue was after I had a call to make an appointment to pick up my taxes. So I made an appointment and then had another call to make an appointment. Had to cancel and made another one, again I had another 2 calls for me to make an appointment. So nobody seemed to know what anyone else was doing. But the worst was when we were going over the paperwork I notice they hadn't taken disability medical expenses.

Tried to explain it again but the agent was adamant that I couldn't claim over the counter expenses and also that the government wouldn't accept just the spreadsheet. So I picked up the envelope that I had given them to do my taxes and showed them the receipts I had admitted with the spreadsheet. Then I started to get mad because of the stupidity shown, so the agent called her supervisor who didn't once look at me, just told the agent to copy my receipts but not once told me what they were doing. I told them to pack up my information, because I didn't trust them to do my taxes. I had to sort out my receipts again because it was such a mess. That day I took it to a recommended tax accountant and he did it while I was there and only charged me $85. So with the correct figures I saved over $200. I am still mad because there are people who go to H&R Block that don't realize they are being scammed. How can the government allow this? Thanks.

All of a sudden, I get a notice telling me if I want to continue I need to purchase Deluxe, with a button to agree or decline, and no information about how much extra it will cost. At that point, fearful of losing data I had entered, I agreed. Only later that day did I find out my cost went from zero to $43. That’s sneaky, and from now on I am sticking with discs for my purchase. I prefer to know what I am getting before paying for it.

Then when I finished, the software refused to submit my 1040 online, saying that I didn't have my AGI correct. I know it was correct, because I had ordered the IRS transcript of my previous two years taxes and had it on the same screen on my computer. I complained to their customer service, but all I got was the reply that I had to print it and mail it in. So the online version failed in two ways -saving money and reducing post office distress.

Beware of errors caused by the software while completing your return! I was only able to discover the error by reviewing the PDF Pre-file Summary. This review was only available because I had paid for the highest cost "Protection" level software. Otherwise I would never have been able to find the error in the software's calculations. While completing my 2017 Return, I had selected the option to download all of my data from CRA My Account. This auto-populated all the related fields. Fortunately I later decided to review the PDF Pre-File under the Wrap Up tab.

I found a significant error on my Schedule 3 which resulted in a resulting error to my refund. The software had doubled the proceeds from the sale of an investment! The reason: While completing the Investment portion of the Return the software produced an error message caused by the auto-download of my T5008 form. It would not accept the format for Quantity of Shares due to the number of decimal places on the original form. I corrected the number as required. The software saw this one entry as a second MANUAL entry of ALL data from the T5008 form. It then doubled all of the related amounts resulting in my Capital Gains being twice what they should have been.

This doubling of data was not displayed anywhere and no notices were produced. Customer Service was not able to find the cause of the error or correct it. I was required to PURCHASE their "Expert Review" service in order to correct the problem. ( I worked with CRA to confirm the error and the proper data). The Expert Reviewer then walked me through correcting the software error. H&R Block has agreed to refund my cost of the Expert Review due to the software error. IMPORTANT: Clients who purchased the lower level of software would not have been able to find this error unless they were very familiar with Capital Gains calculations. I warned H&R staff that there could be many more clients with the same errors who would never notice them.

I went to my local H&R Block here in Brooklyn and they gave me the run around. The day I went in to file my taxes the worker NEVER mentioned "peace of mind" So a few weeks later I hadn't received my state return because I was missing documents. When I bought those missing documents in, another worker said she couldn't help me because I didn't purchase the peace of mind and that if I want to be helped I would need to pay $99.00. I told her, "Well if the First Lady who helped me from the start would have mentioned to me about peace of mind I would have got it". But no one said anything and she was acting like it's my fault, saying a lot of people don't like to use that because too much money.

Went in for personal and business taxes. Was told it would take one week. After waiting a week and a half, called to see what was going on, was told they put my taxes on the "back burner", and it would take longer. After 2.5 weeks, got a call from the accountant. Well calmly telling her my displeasement, she told me my taxes were too complicate, it was my fault, and if I was not happy with it I could come get my paperwork and go elsewhere... Best $400 ever spent... Just don't, don't use these guys, just don't do it. Save yourself any anxiety and headaches, just don't, go elsewhere. 100% honest this happened. I'm just shocked this company is still in business.

I looked on the website and viewed the cost of an average return - between 147 and 191 dollars. I thought this was reasonable. They stated the cost of the federal and state return. I am retired with a low income, although I do have two states returns and a 1099. In the past with the same returns, I paid $250.00 charged by a CPA. The advisor said they would be more expensive - when I asked why he said they were professionals. I thought they might cost an extra $50.00. Keep in mind all the papers were organized. After finishing the return in an hour, he said the return would cost $601.00. I said that was almost 1% of my yearly salary. I told him I had spoken to numerous friends with much more complicated and no one paid close to this amount. I asked him to call the supervisor. They reduced the fee to $490.00. WHAT A RIPOFF! NEVER AGAIN! THEY SHOULD BE PROSECUTED.

The Golden Gate Ave H&R Block office in SF did my 2016 return. Specifically Edwin **. He neglected to include half of my dividends (1099 form) and this resulted in an under reporting of a lot of taxes and a penalty of over $7,000. I paid for the Peace of Mind provision (and yes, I am sure you know that I will now refer to that as the Peace of ** provision). Anyway, my claim with H&R block was rejected because they claim they did not receive my 1099's (of course I gave them all of my tax documents because all of my investments are from the same company, Vanguard and that company provides a single document containing all dividend payments for the year). When I initially spoke with Edwin about this he acknowledged the error and apologized and he in fact initiated my claim.

But no, the company denies receiving these forms. My advice, scan and email all docs you plan to send to this company if you plan on using them. And to make matters worse, I tried to file an amended 1040 (1040X) at another H&R Block office on Van Ness and Armine ** filled that out incorrectly and underreported my adjusted taxes by over $30,000. Total nightmare. So now I am stuck with a $7,000 tax penalty, nearly $2,000 in interest and of course the privilege of paying H&R Block several hundred dollars for this privilege. Risking sounding like a crazy person DO NOT USE H&R BLOCK! I am also investigating the PTIN certification that businesses need to have with the IRS in order to earn income from preparing tax returns.

I argued with her and said, "But I have lived here for 6 mos". I bought a house here and paid property taxes. She said I was fine. All my taxes were paid in Arizona. I was worried so I asked the manager for a second look. She said she would look at it. A week later, I called and she said she would send it to someone who could file in both states. She said not to worry because I paid for "peace of mind" which I should get a check for the tax amount I paid H&R Block plus any mistakes. That took several weeks because no one would return my calls.

I finally made an appointment with the lady who had my taxes and brought her the other mtg. premiums the other tax lady told me not to do anything with. The new tax lady then had to redo everything to fix that! Well, peace of mind denied my claim saying it was fixed within 30 days. So the manager lied, peace of mind doesn't really help you, and they really don't care that I have been with them for years. I am never using them again! I will gladly give my money to a competent tax company who values me as a customer.

Betty ** charged $ 20 plus regular Tax Return fee for three year peace of mind policy. To claim one of my family member "Disability Tax Credit" (Disability Tax Credit) Betty ** printed out, half filled forms, and asked us, to take these forms to our family doctor to fill it.

After filling the DTC form by our family doctor, we visited H&R Block office three times. After repeating my address 3 times, it was still wrong on my taxes and caused a big headache. To further that experience I was told the printer to print my cheque (for instant refund) was not working and they insisted I choose the loadable Visa card. I refused the card and “all of a sudden” the printer was working. Then they further argued that my cheque would likely be put on hold once I deposited it so I should really opt for the Visa card. I didn’t want the Visa card, instigated on the cheque and funny enough, it was not put on hold!

That was in 2014. This most recent experience I brought in a single T4, very basic return. I was there for almost 2 hours, had to repeat my address and SIN out loud, countless times because the employee was making repeated mistakes and didn’t have her glasses apparently to be able to read my information off my T4. In the beginning of the conversation she said it would cost me $80, she said $80 twice through 2 hour process. Once she was almost finished the price suddenly changed to $99. Unacceptable. Both experiences were terrible. I would not ever recommend anyone to ever use their services. I am incredibly disappointed at the lack of professionalism.

Tax "expert" told me I was not eligible for child and dependent care credit despite my having spent $2,563.01 on child care that year and having all my receipts and canceled checks. "The law changed" she said. She also said she needed additional paperwork for some other area that I would have to bring in before she could finish my taxes, but once when she was out of hearing range, one of her co-workers told me she did not actually need that paperwork since I'd been with the same employer over 20 years. When I questioned the tax "expert" as to exactly why she needed the extra paperwork, turned out there was no need after all, and she finally admitted it when I got up to walk out. I wish I had now. I suspect she lied to me several times.

This year another entity did my taxes and asked why H&R Block did not ask for my child and dependent care credit in 2016, like in all previous years. And no, the law did not change just for 2016. Wow. So today I made an appointment to go to H&R Block and discuss options since of course I bought all their "insurance". People I know that I've mentioned this to have all laughed, "good luck". I was told by the receptionist that the wait would only be another 2 minutes after Tatiana returned to her cubicle without ever saying a word to me, not smiling or greeting me at all. My confidence was already totally shot at this point. After waiting yet another 10 minutes and still not being taken in for a meeting, I finally got up from the waiting area and walked over to Tatiana's cubicle, collected my documents from her, and quite politely told her in a calm voice that this was unacceptable treatment and that I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I simply got a blank stare from Tatiana, no apology, explanation, or attempt to keep my business, and was only given a simple "goodbye" (the only thing she ever said to me over the course of the 50 minutes I was there). All this was after my appointment time was changed to being a half hour earlier by H&R that same morning, causing me to reshuffle my plans and having to rush to make it there on time, and the appointment change notification was only sent by email. Being such a disorganized affair and seeming like a sweatshop operation with no sense of tact or accountability to its customers, it's a place I will notably steer friends and family away from and will never return to myself. Today I learned from a friend about medical expenses and thought I should go look at mine. I noticed we didn't list ours and so I finally tried calling customer service.

After many prompts an automated woman voice, then a automated man voice, I finally got a live person. He was then able to guide me to a chat on the page. You have to go to help center, then search for chat, then go to additional questions at the bottom again... You have to be joking??? So you made it impossible for someone to find help when they actually need it because you don't want to drown your people in questions by making the chat more forward, front end facing for the customer? Well I found it and was able to ask my original question from that night and my medical expense question. They sure did help! by telling me that I did it wrong. Thanks H&R block for causing me more issues in my life and by not making it easy.

Also, their accuracy check did not catch a duplicate entry. Ex. I entered a contribution in federal and couldn't find info about it transferring forward. So I entered it again as a credit on the state return because I couldn't find it on there. Well today I learned that it was a mistake on my part. Get your money's worth! When you make an appointment at H&R Block, make sure that you request a tax pro that knows what they are doing. There are many tax pros that have the expertise, knowledge and experience to serve you. Your fees for tax preparation will be the same whether the tax pro knows what they're doing or not. You should request and demand a tax pro that is a level four or five and has over eight consecutive years of experience with H&R Block. The person answering the phone, which is an eight dollar an hour knowledgeable person, will tell you it doesn't really make a difference. They are told to mislead you. It could be years before you discover a mistake or mess a inexperience tax pros can and do make often. Some mistakes are corrected by senior tax pro, in which they receive nothing for correcting the mistakes.

The reason H&R Block does this is their greed! They would rather pay a level one or two tax pro $10 an hour to do your return then pay a knowledgeable tax pro with years of experience a commission up to 20%. Even if your prior tax pro was friendly, nice, did you return quickly, or is your friend, you're not getting your money's worth if you don't get a experienced tax professional! Your mistake could easily reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe. If your tax pro had to stop and go ask another tax pro anything, they do not know what they are doing! You should immediately ask to reschedule your appointment with someone else! No, it will not make a difference to have another tax pro look, or do a second look, after you have filed your taxes. A experienced tax pro should have been asking you questions all during the preparation of your return, not a few questions about part of your return.

So after the IRS accepted our return we were expecting up to 21 days later to have our return. Nope. Found out the hard way. Got our IRS tax return the 22nd of Feb. The amount we got was different then what we were supposed to get. We let them know they shorted us and we are still sitting here without that money. Also we were supposed to have our state mailed to us in a check form. Then yesterday I look at the balance of our emerald card and our state return is on there. Why did we even pay you guys almost $400 dollars. You stole money first of all and second you didn't do our taxes correctly. We are done with y'all. Please no one use H&R Block. They are scammers.

It is like looking through a buttonhole. It totally screwed my state tax form. And it is much more expensive than the PC version, which I ended up buying to get it right. Further, they have no adequate review OR contact options.

H&R Block Advantage VISA Debit Card Tax Refund SCAM - Do not get it if you want quick cash. First the under-qualified H&R Block employee doing your taxes does not explain all the hidden fees after they have no idea how put numbers in boxes using the H&R Block tax software. You then take it to your bank to get the money out and then get a $3.00 fee (bank) + $2.95 fee(H&R card) = $5.95 fee for trying to free up your money from these thieves. But then there is a .50 Decline fee for not knowing the $5.95 fee when taking out the cash which was declined on the first transaction so you call the number on your card to find out the balance and then try max out the card on a purchase with the exact amount that's left on the card because purchases are *free*... But you then get declined... Declined... Declined.

So whatever cash you get back just add on a minimum $10 dollar fee to your fee of getting your cash back because the H&R Block VISA scam is counting on you not knowing all the "hidden fees" attached with getting money from the card. It's about principle because they don't deserve a penny more than what it cost to get my tax return done.

I have used H&R Block downloaded tax returns for years successfully, BUT this year is a disaster. H&R Block 2017 Premium-efile-State tax final form is still wrong even after 4 support calls - fed was updated and then state updated 4 times. I even reconfirmed the inputs. Still very wrong. 2017 Premium +Efile + State (Iowa). It said it found no problems but that my possibility of an audit is slightly higher than average. It should be MUCH HIGHER: There would be a 100% chance of a tax audit. See below. It says:

    1. Total income claimed is less than $25,000.00 AND also that my total income is $200,000-$1 MILLION. 2. Also, it claims my income is $75,000 or less and I am claiming Alimony expenses that are 40% or more of my self-employment income. I am not divorced nor receiving any alimony. 3. It claims my business income is more than 200,000. When actually it was $5000 gross at max. 4. It says I chose not to report health insurance expenses (It was paid another way so no deduction) BUT it also said that we are claiming self-employed health insurance deductions that are more than 40% of my self-employment income. Totally FALSE. I feel robbed this year.

They said I would not know if I would be able to get the loan until the next day so I chose to get the refund put on the emerald card. The card charges $35 for every $1000 you pull off from it but the lady doing my taxes showed me where in the pamphlet you could have your bank pull off the entire amount at one time and avoid any fees. So off I go to the bank to transfer the money and call H&R Block and they tell me I have to pay the fee.

I was told by the H&R Block employee and it was printed in their pamphlet that I could do it without the fee. The lady at the bank put in the wrong amount and canceled the transaction and now H&R Block put a hold on the money. I called them to get them to explain what happened and they are telling me that I may have to wait another 4 days to get my money. I do not appreciate being lied to and duped into using their bank to get my tax return and then not being able to access my money when they do get it. Seems pretty shady to me.

I am filing a complaint about the cost of having a taxes done by H&R Block! My granddaughter was in a dilemma in getting her taxes done. Being a student, single parent along with working finding time was a factor for her. So I tell her to go to H&R to get her taxes done and I would pay. Wow! What a shock! For every individual tax credit she got it costed a tune of $314 dollars. Seriously! Mind you there were no fee disclosures that were visible posted when she went in. My granddaughter reaches out to me by text along with a phone call while they were preparing her taxes.

I was so shocked and upset that she was to the point of tears telling me. But the clincher of it all was, she couldn't pay them for the astronomical fee they were charging. You see! I told her it wouldn't cost a lot as she didn't have anything that was astronomical... Of course. I figured her cost would be maximum of $75 or less... My error and my expense as I'm paying for it... Now the clincher is because she didn't have the money they charged her an additional cost of $40 for processing it from her income tax refund... Seriously! Is this not ridiculous! I only pay $100 to my account for my taxes to be done long form... I think H&R Block fees are overwhelming... Totally disgusted with them for what they are doing... Don't feel these fees are justifiable!

They didn't even bother to inform me, after I chased them they told me they couldn't work on it. The second tax pro made a strange excuse. She said it's too hard to see online returns, I said I would come to office in person then she said clearly, "Sorry I cannot work on it. It's tax season, they make good money in the office so they don't care about online returns." I submitted my return on e-file myself for half the amount I paid to H&R Block. Now I realized that submitting tax return is so easy, takes half hour online, these H&R Block people are just there to rob you. They wasted my 2 weeks.

If they cannot provide a service online then why promise the service and getting money and after making excuses. I tried to file a complaint they put me on hold for more than 1 hour. I also went to one of H&R Block office in person, the person sitting there just knew how to fill up a form online for submission, (which you could do yourself on e-file for just $100 then why paying them $300+) he didn't have any knowledge about tax things. When I told him I am self employed he became nervous he called his senior to deal me. The senior was even not capable as her answers were irrelevant. They did same thing to my brother, he had issue with IRS, he contacted H&R Block and they refused to take any responsibility since they charged him extra money for 'peace of mind' and 'dealing IRS'. The only reason I cannot give them five stars is because I swear it takes them almost two damn weeks to complete my taxes. I do not go in any office and sit with anyone. I complete my own taxes online and send them. In 8 years they found one error and one opportunity I missed for increases taxes. So, I can 6 out of 8 is not bad. One year, I called "HOT" and found out the person went on vacation. I was like, "WTH?" Another year, my usual tax preparer got sick and quit. My fiance opened a account at the same time but had to make two transactions off the Emerald Card. We pay the amounts required to open our accounts, and the transaction amounts on the Emerald Card are more than the amount we put into the accounts. By 35 dollars for each transaction. So, long story short, we paid 105 dollars to put 50 dollars into two bank accounts.

We call customer service and they respond "It's a over the counter fee! You agreed to it when you signed for the Emerald Card!" I have had the Emerald Card for 6? 7 years? I don't believe I ever signed anything to get the card either. Had I known this "fee" existed I would have simply used the ATM five feet from the teller at the counter. Just beware. The girl who did my taxes was very, very young, didn't know anything about my situation. Had to phone the Canadian tax office to ask them what to do, then did something different than what they told her to do and I didn't get the taxes back that I know I was supposed to get. I complained and they never responded. Finally, the guy at the front desk was inappropriately joking about how taxes are made to seem complicated in order to keep them in business. They were utterly incompetent and I was charged a huge sum (if I recall it was around $80 for their service as I was a first-time tax filer) in order to mess up my taxes. Urgh.

I have been going to H&R Block for well over ten years and every year it gets more expensive. This year will be my final year with them. I do not own a business, I have no extra income or bank accounts in different countries or anything else crazy. I have an hourly job and so does my wife. We have 4 kids and they are all under 12. Together we earn roughly 40k/year at best. This year we filed our taxes with them for the last time. It cost us $500 to file our taxes and they pushed the extra protection plan on us last year (taxes were taken for college and they had no clue who took it and the Dept. of Education is saying it wasn't them so no clue where over 8k in refunds went).

So all together we paid $549 plus tax and last year they said if we came back this year and brought last year's taxes then we would qualify for a frequent customer discount on our returns. Of course they put us with a different lady because the other one no longer works there, so apparently because she doesn't work there we don't qualify for it somehow. Looking up other places, I have found out that for our return it should cost no more than about $150 max if somebody else is doing it and free if you do it yourself. After years of them telling me I was getting a discounted price because of already being in the system and because I didn't have a business, I believed them. I will never go back to them again and will let people know how big of a scam it really is.

I received a call from H&R Block telling me that I could file my tax return for free. I had seen the television commercials and read the disclosure that only the federal return was free. I was fine with paying for the state return, so made an appointment. Upon arriving and in no time at all I was looking at the computer screen in the office showing my refund. I went on to digitally sign the forms and have them sent to my bank via direct deposit. After that was all done, she pressed the computer keyboard and a charge of $175 came up!!!

I questioned why I was being charged so much. I am 65, single with no deductions. There were no other items on my tax form which would have fees included as stated on the television commercial disclosure. She said that she wasn't sure and checked with her supervisor who came over. The supervisor looked over the form which had a $7,900 deduction and asked the preparer what that was for. The preparer told her that when she put in my age, that deduction automatically posted. Then the supervisor told the preparer that was the reason.

This made absolutely no sense. I said that because in 2017 I turned 65 and got an automatic deduction from my income, H&R Block decides that they want to extort more money out of me!!! She said that didn't seem right but could not make any adjustments in the fee until she spoke with the corporate office. It was the end of the day and the corporate office was closed. She said she was sure she could get the fee reduced $50. She said she would keep my paperwork and made an appointment for me to return on February 20th.

During the interim, I spoke with coworkers who had filed long forms and some paid less and some paid only a few dollars more, and all of them had itemized deductions. All I had was my W2, and 1095B and 1095C, which shows that my employer pays for my health insurance. I called the office today and told them that I would be in for my paperwork and go elsewhere. I still don't understand how a deduction from my income because I had turned 65 in 2017, would create a fee higher than my coworkers who itemized and were paying for both state and federal returns where I would only have to pay for my state return because the federal filing was free?!

I asked over the phone and in person, would I be able to get the advanced loan before my taxes were prepared and the answer was, "Yes". I had to travel to Louisiana to attend my father's funeral. I normally don't use H and R Block but I am unemployed at the moment and needed an advanced loan to travel to Louisiana. Lo and behold, the young lady registered the emerald card, like I was getting the loan, and gave it to me. She then told me that I should be able to get at least 750.00.

I start checking the card balance on Wednesday... 0 balance. Thursday 0 balance and when Friday approach, it was still 0 balance. I called to speak with the young lady that prepared my taxes, she was off. So, I ask to speak with the manager. The manager then told me that I was denied. I asked why I wasn't told at the time instead leading me that I could get at 750.00. She replied, "she probably didn't know how to press the button that shows that you were denied." I filed my taxes with a local H&R Block office in Abilene Texas. For the last 20 years I have done my own taxes using online software. However, this year I was in need of Fast Cash and chose to use their services because of the $1,000 cash advance. The "tax professional" assured me the loan advance was not based on individual credit but on the refund amount itself. Had he been truthful I would have saved $296. I was denied the advance based on my credit after the IRS accepted my return. Therefore I wasn't able to stop the process and prepare my taxes on my own as usual.

The tax professional didn't do anything for me that I wasn't able to do on my own. We both came up with the exact same amounts. If he had just been honest with me I could have saved nearly $300. That is a lot of money to me a person living paycheck-to-paycheck on low income. I'm very disappointed with the experience and will most definitely not suggest the services to anyone I know.

Mine was a very simple tax return and they charged me $322 plus a $39 fee!! They didn’t tell me how much until right before they were going to submit my tax return. Next year and the following years after, I will be sure to go to my previous accountant who charged me at a reasonable price and a 1/4th of what H&R Block charged me. I do have to say though the accountant who worked with me was very thorough and took her time doing my taxes and I appreciated that.

I decided to go to H&R Block because I was having issues e-filing and wanted to speak to someone with "experience", I filed early because my husband is out of work and we needed to pay our bills. H&R Block advertises their cash advance up to $3000 which is why I decided to call them and see what they could do with the message I was receiving. I should have stuck to what I have done for years and file for free online and mail in my forms. The representative was not knowledgeable and I had to pretty much walk her through some of the write offs I was eligible for.

My return ended up almost being $6000. I almost lost it when she told me it was $350 for her "services" of coming up with the same amount I came up with on FreeTaxUSA.com. If I didn't need the money ASAP I would have just mailed them in. She did tell me that there was a chance that I could be declined but it was very slim and worst case I would just be approved for a lower amount. They only declined customers with outstanding tax debt, too much credit card debt but I did not fall under either of those categories. I honestly was not worried. The way she made it seem it was not going to be an issue and I would find out how much of my own money I would be approved for and that's the other funny thing it's a prepaid debit card not a credit card. It's paid out of my tax return and they charge for the service, withdrawals, the card. I do not see what they would be losing.

In the end I got an email saying I was not approved for an advance and paid to have that lady print out my returns, so for the paper and ink pretty much the only real service she offered. $350 for nothing. I feel very taken and sick to my stomach. This company takes advantage of those in need by offering this incentive but it's not. It's a scam! I just hope others get the full details of this advance. They should allow you to see if you will be approved for the card before they file your taxes. I would even be willing to pay the $39 that they charge for this "advance".

An advance was needed direly seeing that I have three babies at home that aren't even attending school yet. The Rep was not as knowledgeable as she had previously appealed. She messed up my paperwork, disqualifying me for the advance. Not to mention that this was the LOWEST refund I had seen in years. I try to explain to the "Manager" what had happened, and she caught an attitude with me and kept trying to speak over me like I had done something wrong!

My babies needed diapers, my house still doesn't have food. I had a few things riding on this advance. I call customer support. The Rep created a ticket and said someone would be contacting me about this issue. She said it would be expedited seeing that this wasn't my fault. A whole day passes and no one contacts me. I call them and another Rep tells me it'll be 7-10 business days before they research the issue. I guess my babies aren't their problem. I WILL NEVER ALLOW H&R BLOCK TO DEAL WITH MY TAXES AGAIN. I called before my arrival regarding the advance options they offer. I was told the advance was based more on the amount of the refund vs creditworthiness as that was a concern of mine. I explicitly explained the reason for even considering utilizing their service was for the advance and if it was based upon creditworthiness I would file myself as I'm going through a divorce and my credit is in a very poor state at this time. I also explained that I am in a bad situation financially as a single mother of two elementary aged children and was in need of my tax refund as quickly as possible. I explained that I already knew my refund was a significant amount more than the $1000 refund amount I was told was the minimum cap of receiving the advance based primarily on credit.

The tax preparer has worked for H&R Block for over 17 years, so she should be very knowledgeable about the process. Again I asked questions regarding the advance process and if it was based upon credit. Needless to say, I was denied the advance and found out after calling the 800 number that it was solely based on credit. I feel I was grossly mislead and am out of pocket an additional $250 for their services compared to what I would have paid if I had done it myself with the exact same refund amount. Businesses should not be allowed to mislead potential clients for financial gain. This is not how people should be treated. I called them back immediately after finding out I would not receive the advance, was told I would receive a call back from a supervisor and haven't heard back since.

The lady that took care of me was great, very friendly and helpful. She also told me that the advance requires approval and that everyone she has done it for had been approved in 5-10 min. So we went ahead and started the process. After it was all done the charges were $430 which is crazy but I figured we were going to get the advance so I had to deal with it. She put everything thru and I did not receive a text message. So she told us that sometimes it takes 24 hours so we waited.

Now I call the office and speak to the person that did my taxes and she is no longer very nice and happy but gives me very short answers like I was bothering her. She transferred me to her supervisor and although she is apologetic, she left me on hold waiting for a phone # to their corporate office, she came back on the line took my phone # and said she would call me back with #, it’s been an hour and a half later and no call. I called back and now no one picks up the phone. Stay away if you are in a bind. Don’t count on these people to help you. They will take your money and call it a day.

BUYER BEWARE! After using H&R Block for years, I decided the last 2 years to use TurboTax to do my taxes. This year, in the need of some money now, I looked to H and R block again to take advantage of the refund anticipation loan (Emerald Advance) as I have in the past and saw they now have zero interest on this loan. I should have not ignored the first red flag that came up. In the past, they could tell you how much you qualified for prior to them doing your taxes. This year, you don't find out until you have left with a $400 bill for preparing your taxes.

We're getting about 10k back just in federal and we were hoping to get the $3000 due to no offsets and tax liability. Got a text as soon as I started driving stating we were approved for only $500. In past years, at the most, it cost around $200 for tax preparation and that's using the long form to make itemized deductions. On top of that, we knew how much of an Emerald Advance we qualified for prior to signing anything.

I should have known better but, also, H and R block needs to not be so deceptive with their business practices and stop taking advantage of the many of us taxpayers that work hard for our families and see the chance to get a piece of what we earned early to have it turn out to be a total bait and switch to charge excessive preparation fees and low ball the loan after all the paperwork has been signed. It took their "tax expert" 2 hours to prepare our taxes to show the same amount coming back that I had gotten in 10 minutes of using their online tax estimator on my smartphone. BUYER BEWARE.

I have been doing my taxes on Turbo Tax for more than 9 years, never paid more than 60 dollars even with insurance and protections (could actually do it for free, but I like the protections), never had a problem and really easy to use. This year my husband had an accident at work and we needed a little bit of cash before the end of February (when the income would have been deposited) so we decided to give a chance to H&R Block for the Refund Advance, I read and read about the requirements, and nowhere did it said that it would be based on credit, that mostly on refund amount and "other criteria" which they don't tell you what. I even had done the Pre-qualification Online which said I was approved. I had already done a pre-run on Turbo Tax and it was ready to file so I knew we had a refund amount of over 8k, so we were told that it would be ok.

We went to the H&R Block office in town and we knew there was probably going to be a charge of 300 dollars or more for the filing, but we really needed the loan, so we said it was ok. When the lady ran the info for the Health Care exemptions (Since my husband didn't have Health Care for all the year from a previous employer, too expensive) It gave us a Penalty, When I had run the info on Turbo Tax it had asked me if the amount was too high, and if that was the reason we didn't have insurance for the total year, and I answered YES since that was the case, I told her about that and how Turbo Tax HAD register the info and was exempt. But she told me basically that it was wrong and there was no way that she can put that in the form. So at the end we had to pay 900 Dollars!!! 320 for the FILING FEE, 30 for the REFUND TRANSFER FEE (a fee they take out when they take the fees from your refund) and 550 for the PENALTY.

My husband and I were a little upset, but then I thought maybe I had made a mistake in Turbo Tax and that's why it gave the Exemption, so we agreed thinking about the Refund. We asked about it again and was told that the only way we can SEE IF we get it was after filling, so no way to cancel afterwards if declined. So lo and behold, like many others we got denied. Now we are short 900!!!! for something I could have done for 50 dollars AND now we have to pay for a PENALTY that according to Turbo Tax (went home and triple checked the info!!!) we shouldn't have paid!!!! I will never trust H&R Block.

I've used Block's online tax prep satisfactorily for several years but there are major problems this year for anyone who owns rental properties. 1) The beauty of this product is it "remembers" previous years' information. Extremely important if you have rental properties. This year it "remembered" only 1 of 8 of mine. Multiple calls to customer service and chats give their party line: "Sorry...but we don't guarantee import information from previous years. You'll have to re-enter it all manually". Huge problem to have to recreate all prior depreciation schedules. 2) I began entering manually and found their depreciation computation simply doesn't work or is completely wrong. No matter what numbers I entered for 1 property the final screen stated: "Congratulations. Here is your 2017 depreciation for this property: $0".

Tried a different property and got the screen asking what depreciation schedule I was using... I checked the button for 27.5 years (standard for rental houses...even designated as for residential real estate on the Block screen). Clicked next and got a screen stating "Block has selected a 39.5 year schedule for the biggest depreciation" (doesn't make sense at all). The only other option this screen gives is a 40.5 year schedule...no manual override to enter the appropriate established 27.5 year schedule. The IRS DOES NOT ALLOW an established depreciation schedule to be changed yet, Block's software is forcing it. With 10 different contacts to Block no one could explain or help. The last chat person stated Block online doesn't support depreciation so you will have to go to one of our offices. Something is very wrong. I know other with similar problems on the Block community chat. BEWARE IF YOU OWN RENTALS.

So the next morning my husband and I bundled our 8 month old son up to head to the nearest office. I didn't walk in there unknowingly of my poor credit situation. I was assured not only over the phone, but multiple times in the office as well, in front of my husband, that it has nothing to do with credit. So 500$ later, for preparing my taxes (that I usually do myself and could've gotten the exact amount they got me) we walk out of the office. We are a family of four, and were relying on that little money to finish paying for our first family trip together. So it may be small beans to some, but to us, this meant everything. I get a text concerning the status if I am approved for the advance, and LO AND BEHOLD... I was denied.

And why, you ask? The reason was "derogatory marks on my credit report and overall credit rating". Also they stated my refund amount was not enough to secure a loan. We are getting back over 5,000$! How does any of this logically make sense?! I called back and told her I was denied and she told me that they are trained to say it has nothing to do with credit. UMMM, this is a manager of multiple branches spouting misinformation?? I was lied to. Flat out. On multiple occasions, in the presence of my husband and office employees who were playing with my infant son at the time. How is this okay?!

So now, not only are we having to cancel a trip, we are out 500.00$, of an already scrimped budget, for something I COULD'VE DONE MYSELF. The tax advance was the only reason we came in and filed with this place. I am disappointed and, frankly, really upset that I was lied to right to my face. That makes $800 for a half hour work. I asked why and was told because I was self-employed which I learned later was not true. Then I found out my social had been put in wrong, and my sister also had problems! It took two years to clear everything. I have been told many horror stories about this greedy and incompetent business, do not be a victim. Today I saw an ad by H&R, saying how TurboTax made you pay for services. TurboTax is free and rocks, it was so darn easy. I can see why H&R would lie.

We always file our taxes online because it's easy to do and just the small fee to file. Well, this year, January 2018, we learned that H&R Block offered a tax advance of up to $3000 so we filed with them. My family needed the advance because I am disabled and my wife works for the main income. Well, she has been pregnant and had our daughter January 9th therefore putting her on maternity leave. Being on maternity leave is going to make it hard to get the bills paid, but we know we will get it done. Then we discovered if we file with H&R Block then they can provide an advance if we meet eligibility requirements.

Long story short we figured out that we would get back $4000 just like last year. With the Child Tax and Earned Income tax fees and other fees H&R Block was going to charge about $300 to file!!! We applied for the advance to help get bills paid since may not get return back until the end of February. We were approved but wouldn't know how much the advance would be until after completing the return and signing. Therefore agreeing to pay the $300 fee. Well, the advisor couldn't tell us much about what the requirements were for the loan amount so thinking that since they knew that they would be paid back up to the maximum $3000 loan since we were getting $4000 back we assumed we would get at least $1000 advance which would help a lot for bills so we signed agreeing to pay the outrageous $300 fee.

After signing we left and went to the car. My wife then received a text stating that we would get a $500 advance. My wife started crying. They had just tricked us into basically paying $300 to get a $500 advance since we had already signed agreeing to pay the fee. We could have just filed online like usual for a small fee and borrowed money from somewhere else for a lot less than 60% interest but were tricked into paying $300 for $500 loan totalling $800 we were paying back. We knew before we signed agreeing to pay the outrageous fee that it sounded fishy that we wouldn't know our advance amount until after signing but signed anyway because we needed it. I hope that my review will help other people see. If it sounds like a scam it probably is.

I gave this center 1 star, I was unable to give them 0 stars. After filling my taxes I was informed that I would receive notice within 48 hrs of my advance... I did not. I called this division to seek guidance and the rep (Jennifer) I spoke with was rude, and impersonal. She went back and forth about information I needed and only wanted to file a claim against the office I went to 2 days ago.

She seemed unsure of her job and wanted to rush me off the phone. When I asked to be transferred to someone who would be able to answer my questions, she placed me on hold (for a longer amount of time than necessary) to speak with her supervisor (Selena). While on the line with Selena I was able to find out that application for an advance on my return was done incorrectly, but that I was NOT able to resubmit this application over the phone with the division of H&R Block who handles these applications. That the only option I had is to have the branch manager from the office call me... And resubmit the application... Over the phone.

How is there a difference between resubmitting this application (which should have been processed correctly the first time) over the phone at the office I went to and the office that processes them?! Selena was frustrated, talking fast, and also in a rush to get me off of the phone. She constantly interrupted me. When I brought this to her attention, it made no difference and she continued to do so. I have used this company to file taxes for many years and never had an issue.

This has been the first time applying for an advancement on my return and it has turned into a very rude headache. I hope that whatever H&R Block Gods that are out there, somehow, see and read this review. Along with understanding that there are many individuals out there like myself that do NOT understand all the in's and out's of taxes, and advancement on returns. That we are customers depending on their expertise, customer service, compassion, and understanding. That we choose to take our business to their establishments and sometimes call for more clarifications. After this, and all is squared away, it will be time to reconsider who I take my business to next tax season. I am hoping that this company redeems themself to me before then.

I ordered the H&R Block Premium Tax Software yesterday. When I attempted to open it; I had an error message. That began my terrible experience with the tech support staff. I went through 7 people and none were able to help me. It appears that the tech support staff have no knowledge of how their software works. They kept me on hold for minutes at a time to find the fix for the problem.

Two of them rudely hung up on me and never attempted to call me back. I requested a supervisor from the second person and she instead hung up on me as well as being extremely rude and unprofessional. I finally requested a refund of my order in order to end the nightmare of dealing with H&R Block tech support. You would think that they would train their staff on their software and any glitches that come up but apparently this is not done. The only person who was decent and knew what she was doing is the one who issued the refund, Andrea. I gave one star because I could not move on otherwise. They deserve "0" stars.

My experience at H&R Block was so outrageous I have to share it. I have never written a review before like this, so I will briefly explain my situation. I have always done my taxes on my own because I am a single guy with 1 job. In 2016 I had sold a house, and had a death of a parent. So I thought I would take my taxes to H&R Block assuming they would be able to handle a situation like this. I went to the H&R Block in East Peoria, IL on Washington St. I spoke with a rep, which clearly had no idea how to do my taxes. I showed up at 4:15 and didn’t leave until 9:30PM. During that visit, the rep made numerous excuses on why she had to take breaks and clearly did not know how to handle my situation. So she asked her manager, who then got in an argument with her, and he stormed off. I observed this behavior and shortly lost confidence after that.

At the end of the encounter, I purchased the peace of mind insurance. I walked out that day thinking my taxes were filed, yet maybe filed incorrectly. Well I was right about half of that, they were done incorrectly… I then called the 800 number and asked for feedback on whether or not these taxes were done correctly. They sent me to another office in Bloomington, IL to have them reviewed. We found that the exemptions were done wrong, so they were corrected and an amended return was sent in. A few months later I get a letter stating my taxes have not been received! I checked my account, and no payment was taken for the services on my initial visit and H&R Block never paid the federal or state what I owed! I was livid, and called the 800 number and got nowhere.

Went back to the Bloomington, IL office and the rep “re-submitted” my taxes again. I have asked for an explanation and nothing! I asked for escalation and only after a week of calling and sending emails, did I get a call from the manager in the Peoria office, who asked me a bunch of questions and then never took any action and never got back to me. Now I have a fine from the IRS for not filing or paying my taxes. I have reached out to both the rep that helped me and the manager of the Peoria office and still no explanation on the peace of mind insurance, no explanation as to why they did not take my payment or pay the govt what I owed. The 800 number is worthless, and the reps I talk to keep pushing me off to others who take no action. This is the worse service I have received for taxes, and I will never use either office again, nor will I ever use H&R Block again.

My 2016 taxes were nearly done, admittedly a few months late, but not a big deal since I did not owe. I logged in this month to complete filing to discover that 100% of my tax info had been deleted. Support was incredibly hard to find, and on day 2 of no apparent online support option and a robot over the phone who did not answer my question, I finally found a Twitter account called H&R Block Answers. I was told by support that I would have to start all over again since they are preparing 2017 tax forms currently. There was absolutely NO email or any notifying me that this was happening. How do you just delete extensive tax info without warning?? How is that any way to run an accounting business? What an enormous waste of time.

The second year I re-calculated with them last year’s return and sure enough I had to file a addendum to the first year as I was found to be inaccurate. I would get back an extra $500 for their mistake. I completed the second year’s tax estimate and now shows I owe $2,000 to the IRS. All this to find out at the end H&R Block is charging me over $600.00 for the preparation of the taxes. I will never return to H&R Block ever. Now they are already calling to set up next year’s appointment. No way!!! Blood sucking bandits.

This was my first time doing taxes with someone other than my family accountant. I wish I would have read all of the other complaints about H&R. I put everything into spreadsheets and lists and had it completely organized before coming to H&R. I calculated everything and essentially all the accountant needed to do was copy everything into the system. Which she did. That is ALL she did. Something I realized I could have easily done on my own. Then AFTER the lady was done she informed me it would be about $300 "because you had more than 1 W-2 and it was complicated". I was told it would probably be about $100 before then so I was very upset. I still can't believe how bad of a scam this place is. I would never recommend them to anyone. Please don't get scammed by this sad excuse for a company. Hopefully I can get some of my money back from putting them on this year's write off.

Was quoted on the phone approximately 300 for this level. Upon completion was over $600 and I had no choice. I looked at itemized sheet, and identified that each and every form that was used was charged additional charge. I have gone to an actual accountant for years prior and never paid over $250.00. The gentleman who assisted me was kind and thorough but was the only one there and another client had been scheduled 30 minutes after me for some reason. She had to wait an hour and a half. I sadly won't be back due to the outrageous and unjustified cost.

He was not able to notify me because he said they are no longer able to keep names on file whatever that means. What I got out of it if you don't call they won't know whose they are. So while I waited for my rebate to catch up on things. It was not filed it was locked in an office. However, the state found an error and said my refund would only be 167. After receiving a letter from the state showing what lines the errors were made, I contacted H&R Block. The so called expert in Decatur claimed the error was on the part of the state, and the state said the opposite. After listening to the back and forth, I requested a refund. They claim to have a guaranteed refund, yeah right.

The H&R rep was argumentative and did not want to give me a refund. While on the phone with the state about my return, she had someone else's return on the screen. I could see all of this person's information. When the state rep asked about my return, the H&R Block rep began to exit out the other return she was working on. I should have never been able to view someone else's return. She was terribly unprofessional and attempted to talk her way out of giving me a refund. However, I am planning an interview about the so-called guaranteed refund of fees. H&R Block are well aware that they made an error but are playing the blame game in order to deny refunds.

My wife and I had our taxes prepared by H&R Block's New Holland, PA office - the most important part of the information (our length of time as a resident) was not checked properly. We were waiting our tax refund so my wife called the PA income tax hotline and we were told that the form was not prepared correctly, so we tried to contact the New Holland office and they were "closed". We were then advised to drive to the Oxford, PA office and the tax preparation found the error and re-did our taxes and we were told that our new refund amount changed from just over $200 to over $900.

We then waited for this new refund. We contacted the New Holland office and they called the PA income tax hotline and were told that they had not processed the amended form. So again we waited patiently. In the mean time we received a letter from the PA income tax department stating that we were only going to receive a refund of just over $200. We then, once again, contacted the New Holland office and left our entire file with a preparer there and were told that it would be no more than a week for her to get back to us. After 2 weeks we went again to the New Holland office and were told 2 things, The office was closing and we would have to go to the Ephrata PA office and she could not find out files in the New Holland Office and she had no idea where the person that we had left our file with was.

I then called the Ephrata office and made an appointment with the person that we had left our file with. Once we arrived at the office it took a long time for them to finally locate our files that were transferred from New Holland to Ephrata. And at that time is when she had a chance to look once again at our tax files. It took our demanding that she call the PA income tax line and ask them what the error was. It seems that 3 different tax preparers ALL missed that they filled out the detailed portion incorrectly so our original amount of just over $200 was correct. Do not have your taxes done by this office in PA, they are totally incompetent and just want to rush you out of the door to get the next victim. My wife has always done our taxes and will in the future. The one time we decide to have the "experts" help us out it turned to this. It took a total of 9 different trips to 3 different H&R Block offices for us to get our taxes done. Totally unacceptable.

I think that once a person uses search engines to obtain information online about Block, they will see that complaints against them number in the thousands! No doubt there are many other complaints never posted online. My post may be a bit different or more general than the rest. First and foremost they are hateful at the first contact with you and it is obvious that they just don't care about you as a person from the onset. Next is that they are overcharging everyone. Two years ago, I went to an accountant who had a promotional rate of a Maximum of $159.00 for all but the most complicated 1040's for the first year only. My bill with him for this was $125.The second year, he charged me $159.00. My 1040 actually had some complexity to it. Unfortunately the man died, so this is how I met Block.

They charged me about $350.00 for the same services. They are dishonest thieves! They make a lot of mistakes since I got a letter from the IRS about their return errors. Fortunately they were small. The man who did my taxes, "Bob **", stated that he was a C.P.A., but it turned out that he has a degree in Business Mgmt. instead. I don't think Block employs any CPA's, just people that they gave a crash course to off the street. They were also rude to my wife who is the sweetest person in the world. I told them at the onset that my wife was on an extended visit out of state and that I didn't know when they could verify her existence (their rules, not IRS's). They assured me this was OK, but after a few days, they began calling me wanting my wife to present herself with I.D., and I finally gave in to their bugging and had to file single.

This cut my refund by $1300.00, and cost me another $200 per an accountant when I had to refile with a married status change. Beware, these people are stricter than the IRS and protect themselves only, so they may not allow you a legitimate deduction. These people are all about themselves and none about anyone else!!! I shall never use them again. Furthermore, I intend to bad-mouth them loudly every chance I get. I know most of the wealthy and prominent people here since I come from one of the oldest families in town. By the time that I am through with them, they will wish that they had never breathed my name.

We have been getting our taxes done at H&R Block for 12 years. Each year we pay for their peace of mind claim that if we are audited they would stand behind their work. They would help fill out a letter for the IRS explaining what was done on the tax return. Well lo and behold we got an IRS notice for our 2014 tax return stating we owed $6396.00 in back taxes plus penalties and interest. These taxes were done in Woodstock, GA in 2014 and we had moved to Staunton, VA in 2016. We went to the H&R Block office to get help. I was told she could not do anything. I would have to write a letter stating how I did my business expenses. I first called the lady in Georgia Daphne ** and told her what happened. She said tax season was over and she could not help. I asked her how she figured my short pay deductions. She said she listed them as short paid freight bills. But on my return or in their system it was not listed.

She said that was the year H&R Block was getting a new computer system and they were not listed. So well we had our taxes done at an H&R Block in Staunton, VA by Richard **. It took him 6 days to do our taxes. Said they were complicated. We asked him about the audit. He said he would try and do it. Well we thought it over and decided he will say this is too complicated too. So I call H&R Block headquarters in Kansas city, MO. They referred us to a man named Richard in Harrisonburg, VA so I went to see him on Saturday and was there every bit of 20 minutes before he said he would refer me to a woman in Charlottesville, VA who could handle it. Talked to her once and again got nowhere. All of the tax experts and everything is complicated. So I called H&R Block corporate again and they gave me a woman in Woodstock, GA by the name of Fonda **. I discussed my case.

At first it seemed she was going to be able to help. Said she would write a letter to the IRS stating what was done on the tax return. A week or so went by and I ended up calling her. She wanted all the info from the IRS stating what I owed so I sent her all the info and copies of my short pay spread sheet showing deductions from my commission margins. The amount was over $28,000.00. So I ended up calling her to see how it was going and she said she revised my 2014 tax return along with an explanation of my business expenses. She sent me the return and it was terrible. She showed me owing the IRS the amount I originally got from the IRS and her explanation was terrible. We took all of this info to a licensed CPA in Staunton, VA and he said not to send the revised return as the IRS already had all this info.

So I called her and she said, "Sign and send in the return and pay the taxes owed but we cannot guarantee we will be able to get you a claim settlement for the amount of taxes owed." She said, "Maybe we can refund the amount you paid to have the return done." And she also said she could not send a letter stating an explanation of my business expenses because they are not deductible. I told her we had been doing the same business expenses for 9 years and no problems. She said she could not help me any further.

So today we got a certified letter from the IRS dated 7/17/17. A letter of deficiency for $ 6887.00 to be paid. I just talked to a lady named Helen at H&R Block in Woodstock, GA and she says I cannot file a peace of mind claim as I was not allowed the deductions I took. H&R Block has been sued several times on their peace of mind claims. I am going to be no different. This issue with H&R Block needs to be dealt with. Why are consumers paying $40.00 each year for peace of mind and there is really no peace of mind at all.

The H&R Block tax preparer put in the incorrect information for my alimony payments which caused me to have an overpayment. I paid an additional fee for the Peace of Mind offered by H&R Block and have been recently denied by H&R Block. The reasons are not true, they claim I did not meet the 60 day limitations to make a claim; and that I did not request representation from them. Firstly the state brought their error to my attention; secondly I went back to their office and the same H&R Block tax preparer still did not detect his error on my 2016 federal tax return.

It took getting more information from the state when I sent them all the information they requested to determine H&R Block had put the wrong amount in the 2016 federal income tax return for my alimony payments. I then went back to H&R Block and filed for my Peace of Mind claim and it has taken them 8 weeks to determine they are denying the claim under false accusations. Where is the integrity, commitment, loyalty to customers they advertise about? The Peace of Mind is a piece of crap! I would think long and hard before using H&R Block. On 2/27/17 went to Springhurst office (Lou, KY.) to have simple 1040 completed. Received letter from IRS that I needed 1095 to complete my filing. Called office mgr., she stated to bring in the next day, and all would be handled. When I arrived her demeanor was totally different, she made it seem like our fault, so I walked out and called the 800 #. I was directed to take my taxes to the Hikes Lane office, who up to this date of 7/10/17 has attempted to prepare them 4 times.

Each and every time that I've walked out of that office I was assured this would be my last trip there, (but also each time I have owed more money to the Federal portion). I paid $ 436.25 for simple 1040's, now when this happened at the very 1st appointment I should have kindly said, "no thank you", but my taxes were prepared and I kinda felt obligated at that point, NEVER again. Guess that's why they don't give you a cost prior to doing your taxes, scam! Today however, upon going AGAIN to the Hikes Lane office, the man who has been working on my taxes all of these months was not there (he has gone home to India for a visit). How convenient.

The office mgr., Mary ** tried to help me, 1st I asked her for the phone number of her supervisor (the district mgr), it took her 10 mins to find it, and she tried to distract me from getting it by flipping thru my tax return, and asking questions. I phoned her supervisor in front of her, explained the situation, and also stated that I would no longer accept 1/2 my amount back that I paid for tax preparation, I wanted a full refund. He had NO CLUE that I was even due a refund! I also asked him for the contact information for their regional director, and was instructed that he was as far as I could go. Now Mary gave me this look of a deer in highlights, and when I said that out loud, she was so offended that she refused to help me. She claimed that I was the rudest person that she had ever met and showed me to the door, leaving me to feel as if at that point I had nowhere to go.

So let's recap that, I have spoken to this lady on the phone and sat down with her in her office more than twice in the past 4 months, but because I have now had enough and was given a blank stare when I was asking simple questions that any office mgr should be able to assist with, suddenly I am the rudest person on earth, in fact so rude that she escorts me out of her facility. She did not refuse to help me because I was too rude, she refused to help me because this has become such a mess that she (the mgr) has no clue how to resolve it. She pulled up my information on the screen and began to ask me tax questions. I replied "this is your area, not mine, that's why I went to a preparer in the 1st place." H&R Block is clueless...

I tried H&R Block for the first time earlier this year. Despite having an appointment, we waited for about 45 minutes before our tax professional was available. The process once we got in was ok, however I just got a letter stating that I owe them over $500. After calling them and reviewing the documents, I found out they made an error when filing my taxes, which resulted in me owing this money. They are taking no responsibility for their error. I will not be working with them again.

Well he never has to date although I have called and left messages for him. At one call I talked to the reception desk, she assured me Mr. ** had been given my messages on many occasions and did not know why he has not talked to me. She check again. I needed my company tax return completed. H&R Block has all my past files. Mr. Robert ** has behaved very unprofessional on this matter. Money stolen from my account twice. I have done my taxes myself through the H&R Block website for the past five years. They send me my emerald card and I always have got my money on time and never had any issues with anything. Until this year I filed my taxes, got my card, money was right on time... But as I slowly spend some of my $5000.00 tax return on my bills knowing I hadn't spend all of my money I go to the ATM to withdrawal money. I had $400.00 left when I should have had over $3600.00 left and then I wake up the next morning and had $5.00 left. So as I check my transactions. I see that someone has spent $3236.38 at 3 different locations in Korea. So I look up the companies to find that only one of the companies even existed and the other two was not even real. So I reported the fraudulent transactions which there were 23 of them.

I called the 866 number on the back of my card and the woman I spoke to didn't really even want to hear what I was saying. She kept interrupting me and trying to confuse me and she said she would email me a paper to sign and return to them which I never received because I told her specifically to send it to my new email which I gave her and it never came. Usually an investigation takes about 20 days but what was weird was in 6 days they put $3236.38 on my card without me signing anything or hearing from them again. It was like the woman knew why I was calling and just fixed the problem real quick. So as I'm slowly spending my money I had just got back on my bills and stuff I go and try to buy my daughter a pair of shoes and my card was declined so I try to get into my H&R Block acct and I had been blocked from it.

So I finally figure out a way to see my transactions and sure enough I see all these transactions that I didn't make for 3 different places in Korea and one place was connected to the first store from the first fraud claim and the other two do not exist. So two times my card was hacked into even after getting a new card and pin number. I'm waiting now for an investigation and papers were sent and signed and returned this time. But I'm having a hard time trying to figure out who could be doing this and if any way possible I can keep it from happening to someone else.

The names of the companies from the first time this happened are Goya Direct which is a company that exist and the other two where RefferDunny and Tomlinstrade and then the 2nd time the companies names were Boketto International and Curnrub and then PFA Dangjen. So keep an eye out for any of these kinds of transactions on your statement. I need help to find out how this even happened and I'm not sure if it was someone from Mastercard or from H&R Block since both companies are tied to the card. So please help if anyone has went through something like this.

OK, I filed on 02/25/2017. After filing was completed there was a posting that said my return was accepted by the IRS. It didn't say it was accepted by H&R Block, it said accepted by the IRS. I checked the site frequently and after a couple of months I started to become a little concerned because other family members had already gotten their returns. Now it's June, almost 5 months later. I checked the site a couple of days ago and still "Your return has been accepted by the IRS". I paid a little extra to have someone there go over everything to make sure it was in order so I gave her a call, she did pick up after the second ring and told me she was having a problem with her computer and would call me back in a half hour. She never called back and when I returned to the site, where the posting was that said my return had been accepted was now saying my return had been rejected.

When I left her a message on the site she responded by saying she had reached out to me by phone to tell me the return had been rejected. She must've used the same number she used to call me back in the half hour because there was no message from her in my phone nor was her number in my phone so that was obviously not true. So now I've been misled and lied to. Now I have to wait an additional 8 to 21 days for my return that they said was again accepted by the IRS. Don't know whether or not to believe them. I'm taking care of someone in my family who has health issues and don't know why my original claim was rejected but at this point because of financial obligations can't afford to take the time to fight it so I've agreed to the revised amount.

I'm a manager in the hotel business and if you make a reservation with me 5 months ago and arrive at my hotel and I don't have a room for you you would have every reason to be very upset with me and not only would you never want to stay at my property again, you would tell all your friends and family to never stay and would also go to TripAdvisor and rip me apart. I know this is what it is and there is nothing I can do about this... I will never however use their services again and even though I can't tell anyone else what to do, please read this and all the other letters and make an informed decision.

Used the cards to pay off all the debts we had then came back that the payment didn't go through and now my debt has double. We called H&R and they told us take 10 business days to get back to us.

It's been almost a month and the local office here in town is open on Tuesday from 8 to 4 and so I got to take a day off to go take care of this which I can't really afford so now I may have to get a lawyer to sue for damages which I wasn't going to, but now after all the stress that this has called to me and my wife I don't care. They didn't even have the common decency to call and say the are sorry or tell us they would make it right so this will be the last time I let any business of any kind get away with ripping me off. It a shame. I work hard for what I have and I don't want a hand out but it high time this company pay for it mistakes. We as common folk don't get to get away with stealing. I know my review is sort of too late but I wanted to tell you what I went through during the 2015 tax season with H&R Block. I live in a small "but growing" city called Kalamazoo Michigan. There's a H&R Block on a busy road called Westnedge here. I had called this H&R Block a day in advance to see if they would welcome drop in since it was in the middle of the work week and it was in the afternoon "assuming that this is when they are the least busiest." The lady had told me to come on in and they could help me out. The next day I did just that, and the fat lady who looked like she had zero experience took 1 look at me and told me "sorry... you'll have to make an appointment."

I looked around in that empty office and asked: "why do I have to wait when you told me to come on in?" She didn't know how to answer that question and insisted to come back 1 week later. I needed my taxes filed so I took her 1 week piece of paper appointment and told her I'll be back because this time I'm locked in and there's no turning back. Well I was with my girlfriend that day I walked in. After we went back to the car my girlfriend started to call the other H&R Blocks in the area to see if anyone else had an open spot. My g/f accidentally called the one on Westnedge and got the same fat lady who wanted me to come back in 1 week.

Guess what? Because it was my sweet sounding girlfriend making the call, the fat lady from the desk told my girlfriend she could come in TODAY "NOT 1 week later" and that there was an open spot right now. I was flabbergasted by this. The fat lady turns ME down because I'm a man, but doesn't turn my girlfriend down because she's a WOMAN. H&R Block is sexist and me or my girlfriend will never EVER do business with H&R block again... EVER!! They are lucky they don't get sued for discrimination. Well that's all I have to say about this crap business. I guess if you're a lady this business is for you. But watch out for lesbian workers there.

DO NOT! I repeat, DO NOT PATRONIZE H&R Block, especially the Harrisville, Utah office. The tax preparer, Tracy **, misfiled our taxes in 2015 and 16 under the wrong Tax ID number. We had two returns, a trust and our personal returns to have prepared. I trusted her to know what to do, especially with the trust account. I wrongly had confidence in her "expertise". Boy, was I wrong. I didn't find out until this April 2017 that the Utah Tax Commission had no record of any trust account returns filed in our name in either 2015 or 2016. I called the tax commission several times to ask why we had not received our refund for tax year 2016 and each time they could not find any evidence of any refund for 2016.

To make a long story short, after some investigation, this April 2017 the tax commission notified us that the tax preparer misfiled our 2015 and 2016 returns under mine and my spouse's social security numbers instead of the trust account tax ID number as she should have. As a result, in 2016 we received a tax refund of $2160.00 for tax year 2015, we were not supposed to have because the preparer misfiled our returns under the wrong ID number. The tax preparer, Tracy **, refuses to make it right as does the corporate office in Kansas City, Missouri. As a result, because of the preparer's mistake, we will have to reimburse the state for the erroneous 2015 state tax refund. Tracy did not warn us that the $2160 refund was issued in error nor did the tax commission give us any notification.

A tax commission agent called me a week ago to demand we reimbursement of the $2160.00, paid to us in error for tax year 2015. Tracy ** and H&R Block know we owe the money due to her mistake, but she and the H&R Block refuse to reimburse us for the $2160.00 tax filing mistake. Tracy ** was rude, belligerent and uncooperative when I emailed her to request that she reimburse us for the mistake. I have had to file a complaint with H&R Block company headquarters and have another H&R Block tax prep specialist reprocess our tax returns. What a nightmare! And who knows if we will get reimbursement for our tax preparation "specialist's" stupid mistake!

Today, May 30, 2017 I called the H&R Block complaints department to follow up. They refuse to reimburse us and wash their hands of the matter. Tracy will do no more than reimburse us for the penalties incurred for late payment for taxes owed to the tax commission for tax year 2016. H&R complaints backs her up. A certified public accountant whom I have had prepare our taxes in previous years says he carries insurance for just such occasions. If a client owes due to a mistake he has made, the insurance covers him. He says the H&R Block should be held responsible. The tax commission agent says I should go after Tracy ** for the $2160.00, but that I am ultimately responsible for the debt to the state of Utah.

Rudeness + Incompetence = Increased Income?!? Today, I assisted a elderly gentleman in setting up his online account in order to print his 2015 & 2016 tax returns as his wife passed away this year and she used to manage all of their records. His online account stated that there were no tax records. I spoke with the technical department which stated that as he had his records done in office that there was nothing they could do about it as it is a different computer system than they work with. They passed me on to customer relations who assured us that as we had exhausted all options we would not have to pay $50 to have the records printed if the gentleman went to the 3262 Central Ave E, St. Petersburg FL office as his regular office is closed.

We were advised that customer relations would send a message to that message under the gentleman's name to waive the fee. I advised the gentleman to call to make sure they got the message from customer relations before heading there. He called and passed the phone to me, to explain the situation the manager, resulting in the manager adamantly stating that she refused to waive the fee under any circumstances as "customer relations doesn't matter because they are not in retail and do not know how much it costs to buy paper and ink. Also customers are responsible to keep track of the papers given out at their appointment. He must pay $50 if he wants it printed or he can go to his online account."

I again stated that we already opened his account and there were no tax records. The manager then stated that she guessed that the 4922-A 38 Ave N., St. Petersburg, FL 33710 office didn't upload the documents but still refused to waive the fee. I asked who I could escalate this matter to but she stated that she is the manager and there is no one else I could speak to.

In the end the elderly gentleman was forced to take a trip to the office and pay $50 to get his tax returns. Afterwards he stated that's life and it's only $50. It may be a small fee but it the principle of it that concerns me. Afterwards, on my own, I tried to make a complaint to customer relations but I was cut off stating that they couldn't do anything without speaking to the elderly gentleman. Of course, he is a gentleman and would never complain but something must be done about this.

The elderly are being taken advantage because H&R Block employees who don't do their jobs uploading documents into the online system means extra income to H&R Block in the form of fees; likely the reason no one cares about competence at H&R Block. I would write H&R Block but I'm sure I'd get the same reply as customer relations; something like 'We can't do anything because this letter isn't from the customer'. Ultimately, H&R Block employees were technically incompetent, deceptive, rude, discredited their own internal departments, pointed the finger to blame other offices, refused to provide a chain of command for resolving matters, and were heartless in a truly sad extenuating circumstance.

I asked for a refund and was jerked around between the corporate offices and my local office with corporate offices claiming they could do absolutely nothing to help me. The manager of my local office ignored FOUR emails that I sent her. Finally I was refunded $100 out of the over $300 I paid and another tax professional fixed my sloppily done returns. This was not sufficient -- I requested a full refund since the first tax professional had zero idea what she was doing. When he finally sat down and did our taxes it turned out we were getting $4464.68 back. We owe back taxes that we had setup a payment plan for and had been paying on for 2 years. We asked him if this would affect us getting our refund back and he assured us it wouldn't. We had been waiting for our refund for 3 1/2 weeks and nothing. It was electronically submitted and should have been back in two weeks. We called our accountant which he never answered and never returned.

We turned to the IRS who told us how to check on our refund. Shockingly we learned that our tax refund was reduced down to $464.00 and was paid out 2 weeks earlier. The accountant took his $400.00 and deposited $64.00 into our account. The IRS took the money for the back tax and the accountant knew it and never contacted us to inform us we were getting next to nothing!!! That money was going to be used to help my daughter into grad school. I am devastated that I can no longer help her! He didn't have the common decency to call us and tell us what happened!!! He refuses to answer our calls!! I will never use H&R Block again!!! On top of everything else they make it impossible to leave a review on their website!!

Dealt with the owner of the Main Street Tillamook H&R Block on behalf of an elderly friend. An error was made in 2014 where this branch forgot to electronically submit her taxes. While a $50 discount was eventually promised off her 2016 tax filing, the owner acted like it wasn't a big deal to forget to file and I was the one with the problem making a big deal out of the situation. Having decided I was a "contentious" influence in my role as Power of Attorney (in place to protect my friend financially), he would take data from me on behalf of the tax return, but refused to communicate with me and went directly to my friend's home. He asked for a check for the 2016 taxes, but failed to give my neighbor that promised discount.

I complained via 1-800-HRBlock customer service, but they were unable to do anything to protect this elderly woman in this situation and said she needed to handle it on her own directly with the owner. So instead of her feeling safe with a person in place to help her financially, she now has to handle a stressful situation on her own to get fair treatment. She sent a letter to the owner of the office and H&R Block and has asked for her $50 discount, but will not be working with H&R Block in the future.
