    Every day, I was constantly having to answer questions to a loan officer up until closing day, and Better made the whole process very easy with the dashboard and the tasks. It was one of the better experiences I've ever had. They made the process very easy. Once you complete a task, there wasn't a lot of follow up like, "Oh, yeah, you're missing this still," like there is with other lenders I've dealt with. Better seems to have everything together as far as prerequisites and what you need, and their loan officers are very good to work with. I highly recommend them.

    Better Mortgage's interest rate was the lowest. We connected with them online. Then they followed up and took us through the process and what documents they needed. It was pretty seamless. We had a little hiccup with some of the loan signing documents. All the documents we needed to sign weren't signed. So, we had to do it again, which was kind of a pain. But overall, it was fine. It was not a big deal.

    The people who were helping me out during the process were really good teachers. Every time I called them, they were available to answer any kind of questions I had and they helped me understand them. There are so many different complicated terms that are used and I had a question on every single thing but their rep, Steve, was very good at explaining every single point with a proper example. He was able to put my interests first.

    Just the last part of the process was a little bit of a hassle. We were trying to close before December 31st but their team was not able to find a local appraisal here. They only had one point of contact and that guy was on vacation and when he came back, he had COVID. We had to postpone 15 days. They should have more resources available on their side. But other than that, if in case I want to do it again, I will again go with Better Mortgage. I don't think there is anyone else who is competing with them in terms of the quality of services. They provide the cheapest mortgage with zero origination costs and the interest rate was low. It saved us $10,000 and that's a win for me.

    Better Mortgage was spouting out the right numbers, the numbers that I was looking for. Stephanie was great. She walked me through the process. She said, “This is gonna be pretty hands-off. It's gonna move pretty quickly,” and it did. She was in constant communication. In that communication, she told us what to expect, what our next steps would be. There’d always be a link to our online account where we can see all the information uploaded well and download what we had to, and sign what was needed.

    It was very little FaceTime with anybody. The disclosures were clear and came through. It was easygoing. We had a question on the day of the actual signing, and it was a Saturday, and our rep even got on and helped us walk us through, and reassured us that what we were doing was what we wanted to do. That was pretty cool, too.

    I was comfortable working with them. I didn't have any doubts. Everything was spelled out. I'd been through these signings before and these refinance in the past. By far, this is the best experience. Every time I got in a hiccup, I reached out and they were able to iron it out. They were super responsive. The longest I was left hanging, it was 24 hours, and that wasn’t even bad. The application process is the most painful process. But with DocuSign and eSign applications now making it super easy to go through. The only danger in that is that I might not have read all of the fine print. But even if she printed it out in front of me, I probably wouldn't have read it anyway. It was a great experience overall.

    I prefer to do the uploads through the internet. So, the portal of Better Mortgage made it a lot easier for me in the way I wanted to do business with them. Their process was easy. They have a few things. You can ask either a chat agent over the internet and they can help you. If they can't, they can quickly set you up with the agent itself. It was also quick. It took about two to three weeks. They show you which ones are the most important. Wants to keep the process moving also and that's very helpful. They will flag if a task that they assigned for something upload will help you keep the whole process on track or shorten it.

    The application process with Better Mortgage was easy, but on the task that they were asking, it seems like they don't pay attention to whatever you sent and they repeat the tasks and they make you do things about five times. The people that review these papers don't have any idea. If it is a W-2 process, they should be fine with it. But in my case, because I was self-employed and I have 17 rental properties, it was more difficult for the guys that were reviewing the papers before they were given to the underwriter. So, they were asking several times for the same things. It was a little bit of a pain. The rates were a little bit high, too.

    This is my third time working with Better Mortgage. I worked with them twice doing refinances and now, I’m financing with them. It’s a different group, so I’m working with a different person and I just found out today that the gal that I’m working with has been out sick all week. No one informed me until Friday at 10:00 am so I’m not happy with the response times at all so far. I posted the bad review then I started emailing a bunch of people asking what was going on and why was nobody responding. That was when they told me what was going on. When you’re dealing with a mortgage, you have a short timeline you I don’t have time to waste around. They could have been responsive and proactive with our file. I’m still trying to work with them but now, I’m also reaching out to other banks because I don’t know when she's gonna get off sick leave or when we’re gonna get this done.

    The portal that Better Mortgage has where you can kind of do a comparison and see the numbers set them apart. Everybody else I called wanted to send me documentation. It wasn't something I can do on my own. The process with Better Mortgage was also seamless. The person I was working with was responsive and sent emails anytime we needed to update something. My experience was great. I would have recommend it better to anybody that was looking to do a refi or purchase, but that incident that was in the news with the owner or the CEO turned us off.

    I mostly was able to email and do things online. It’s quick for me just to shoot an email real quick or upload my documents and not have to spend a lot of time on the phone going over things that I could easily submit online. That was one of the best things about Better Mortgage. They always answered emails pretty quickly except around the holidays, which I was totally expecting. However, on the day of my closing, I was expecting somebody at my house at 6:30. The person didn't show up. I had to call around and figure out what was going on. The person decided, last minute, they were not gonna do my closing. I ended up having to work around my schedule to figure out how we were gonna be able to close on that same day. I had to meet that person somewhere else at 9 o’clock at night. That was kind of a bad experience.

    R-U-N! May have good rates but they will screw up every single thing that could possibly be screwed up along the way to closing. We had nothing but problems with people processing our Loan. They will waste your time, frustrate you to no end with incompetence and carelessness and you will have to get Managers involved to straighten out multiple messes with young people processing your loans who really are not adept or versed in follow through, follow up or have any sense of timeliness. You might as well beat your head against a brick wall. They will drop the ball on you repeatedly, treat you like you are the problem, making this the most aggravating, stressful experience you could ever hope to have. Save yourself the aggravation and find a competent Mortgage Lender. It was 300 times easier buying our home than refinancing it thanks to Better Mortgage, thinking we were getting a good deal. TOTAL NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE!

    I applied with another lender as well and I chose Better Mortgage because the rate was better, and the speed of the transaction was also moving a lot faster. I was able to close early in part because of the way Better Mortgage was able to handle it compared to the other lender. The process with Better Mortgage was very straightforward. The tasks on the online system made it easy to share the documents that were needed. There was phone support available, which I had to use a couple of times due to some things that I had to do. Once I was able to get on the phone with somebody and that was very quick, I was able to get it resolved. It was nice to be able to kind of see where we were in the process as well. It was very clear. I never felt I was in the dark about what was going on. If I needed another mortgage in the future, Better Mortgage would probably be one of the first places I'd go to.

    The rate's pretty good. I really liked how they gave me instructions or tasks to complete my application. It wasn't too much of a hassle. Plus, being able to scan and upload my files made it really made the process really easy and less stressful than it is. The only thing that I would improve from the experience is the responsiveness of the agent I was working with. Aside from that, everything else was pretty good.

    I liked how Better Mortgage let me waive the appraisal. That really saved us a lot of time. We were able to use the value provided by home websites like Zillow in order to get the value of the house. When I was having problems trying to apply because I didn't know the value of my house needs to be a lot more than the amount that I'm trying to refinance, someone reached out to me and told me that this is what we needed to do. So, I was able to apply right away.

    The process was a little bit over a month because there were some things that needed to be done. We had to pay off a lien and it took a long time for that to be cleared. Other than that the rep was good. He worked with me on a lot of things like adjusting the closing date for us to be able to cover the closing costs and a bunch of other things. It was a positive experience all around. I don't know where else we could have gotten a good rate or such an easy way to apply. I would go with Better Mortgage again in the future if we need it.

    Better Mortgage is the only option that allowed me to roll in closing costs to the total loan so I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. It was your typical mortgage process. It wasn't enjoyable but it was comparable to working with other lenders. It was fairly easy to get in contact with them. There were some hiccups along the way as far as not updating information which then delayed closing by a couple of days. Otherwise, things flowed pretty smoothly.

    Working with Better Mortgage was probably one of our best experiences. I would recommend them because they made the process very clear and easy to understand. It was so easy and seamless from the day we reached out to them. We got our pre approval immediately. From there, they call you a lot, but it's because they want to make sure everything's getting done. The reps that we worked with were extremely responsive and helpful. They were available via phone, email, etc. They were very thorough in their details for us. We ended up going back and forth with them a little bit because we had gotten a different rate locally. I asked for a certain amount of cash out but after the closing, I received a different amount which was lower than what I asked for and I wasn't made aware of that.     The mortgage process was really frustrating. Since everything was done online, a lot of the times, we would have to schedule notaries to sign closing documents, and they were forgotten. They were never scheduled. The paperwork was printed out incorrectly and we would find something that was printed out incorrectly. Then we had to reprint all the closing documents and change our closing date three times. But the rate was the cheapest one we found, which is why even with the three setbacks, we continued to go with Better Mortgage.

    I worked with Brian and his team. A friend of mine had done refinance and they said how complicated it was but I didn't think it was complicated with Better Mortgage. The interest rate came down substantially from 4.37% to 2.30%. I liked the fact that they have a dashboard and if you kept up with the dashboard, then things moved along. It was an easy process for me but you have to check your to-do list daily. There were 23 things on my list and I had done 20 of the 23. I knew the three things I had to do so I didn't check the dashboard. But sometimes, things change. In my head, I thought I had checked something off but it reappeared and I would get an email. They should say, "Your dashboard has changed," because that would have prompted me to look.

    I live in Philadelphia and we had crazy flooding around the time when I was getting refinance done. I wasn't near the flooding area, but I can understand why they might have questions. I had to get these timestamp photos and I'm not a techy person so I didn't know how to do that. They offered to send someone out but I thought by the time we schedule somebody, get somebody out and get this done, I probably could do it myself faster. However, I didn't do it right, so it took more time.

    Better.com should be called BetterNot.com. After almost two months of supplying documentation and being completely transparent that I am a resident of the USA and I work out of the country - got to the closing phase, setting up POA, I was emailed a messge that the loan application was now DENIED. That I will not qualify due to unacceptable residency status (the loan was for a second home since I would not occupy it until the summer of 2022- then turned into an investment property loan- as recommended by them...).

    Also they noted too many inquiries from finance companies (yeah, I actually was shopping for mortgages - that is the biggest joke of all)- and all of this is AFTER I was deep into the process of the loan application process. My experience is similar to other reviews as well- in the beginning things appear to go well with positive affirmations as you submit documents... but then the underwriting process got so bad... This was just one big nightmare. Problems with uploading docs or accepting any nuances cannot be processed. The thing is, through it all, I was very clear about my income being in China and all of my taxes are filed in the USA.

    So over two months and just being strung along...communication from their side is inefficient...support is a joke. I would wake up in the middle of the night to answer questions (phone calls) and provide any and all information... We even had closing setup and were just getting the dates and power of attorney completed. I had provided them with paid insurance on the potential sale - everything I mean everything on my end was given and disclosed FULLY, but when I got to the very last step closing - the big final NO.

    They cited FREDDIE MAC or FANNIE MAE or something like that- but let me be clear- I nothing about my status had changed from Day 1. I feel like I was dealing with business novices and I feel like the process was so fragmented outside of the website. Best advice, go to your local bank... Forget this online automated drop and drag financial clickbait. Meet bankers in person, or shop locally for a mortgage. You may save yourself hours of online frustration and ultimately save yourself money.

    Everything was done online and it was very simple. I uploaded pay stubs and any documents that would pertain to our home. I just drag any document I needed and dump it in the portal and it's done. The process took 12 days from the time we did our initial application.     The process is very simple - do all your application online, upload a few documents and be responsive if they need anything. The reps were great and everything is fairly priced. But my closing got screwed up. We were waiting on someone all morning. I took off work and nobody showed up or called. So we had to get in contact with the people. But they were good about it and they scrambled and got somebody over here. It was just frustrating that we had to take the morning off, then not have that happen. Other than that, it was good. Current events notwithstanding, Better is definitely a good mortgage company. They try really hard to get the loans turned around quickly.

    Everything was online with Better Mortgage, very minimal talking to people or talking to an agent, and so that was very convenient for me ‘cause I could do it on my parents’ behalf without having to be the messenger between the agent and my parents. I live in Idaho and I was looking for a refinance in Idaho. My parents live in California and we were doing a refinance in California too. In both of those quotes, they ended up giving me Kailee as my agent, which is usually not the case, because if crossing state lines, the agents are mostly local. Then while I was communicating, it felt like it wasn't the same person all the time because the wordings were a little different in their text messages. The way they spoke was a little different too although it didn't affect my process in any way. Then not only mine. When I referred Better Mortgage to a friend of ours who was also doing the refinance just about a month ago, they also got Kailee as their agent.

    There were a couple of hiccups where they would ask me for some documents, and I would have questions regarding those documents, or those documents didn’t apply to me, and they have a space below that request where I could put in my comments or concerns or questions. But that messaging system could be improved a little bit more because it was very vague and it didn't give me all the options I needed.

    The rate and terms were also pretty competitive. Better had one page where they had all of the options possible. They give an entire spectrum all the way from closing costs of $8,000 to minus $8,000. They also give an entire range of how does the rate change. They also give a 30-year, 15-year, 10-year, 5/1 ARM, 7/1 ARM. I can just select the rate and closing costs I'm comfortable with and then lock in the rates. That was very beneficial and convenient. I appreciated that a lot.

    It was great with Better Mortgage. My contact, Ethan, was responsive and made the process super easy. We had to submit a lot of documents and he was able to help us. We didn't have to resubmit everything for the second mortgage we did shortly thereafter. But for some of the documents, whatever kind of engine Better Mortgage has reviewing them clearly was not capable of understanding the document. We had to resubmit it multiple times and eventually, I told Ethan, "We're not submitting anything else. We already submitted it. You can figure it out."

    The appraisers were horrendous. It's like they had never been in a building before. One of them confused half of our building with another and put photos of another building in our appraisal so it came out about a million dollars under what it’s actually worth. The rental property is two rooms with a closet. They did not recognize, even though they looked in the closet, that there was in fact a washer and dryer in the closet. They didn't know basic stuff. We had our house inspected before we bought it and the inspector missed a P-trap made out of duct tape. All you have to do is open the doors under the kitchen sink, shine your flashlight in there and you can see it. The whole residential inspection appraising thing does seem like it needs major improvement. But I recommended Better Mortgage to many people because doing everything online, despite some of the documents not being recognized, allowed me to do it whenever I felt like it.

    Better Mortgage provided me with the lowest rate. The online application process went really smoothly. I refinanced last year using a broker and I needed to provide more documents so it was a little bit more complex. The one that Better has is by far more convenient. There were some delays due to the assessment of the home but the process took a month and a half.

    One thing that didn't go very well was that at close to the end, they provided a close estimate and that was wrong. There's a person that comes so that I can sign the papers and that person needed to come three different times because the close estimates were wrong. As soon as I was facing the problem, I called their rep Emily and she reached out to me promptly. Other than that, working with them was very good. I definitely recommend Better Mortgage if someone is going to close on a new home.

    Without a doubt, the worst experience of my life. I am a serious planner, and with that in mind set up a 60 day escrow So that there would be no surprises in the process... Well, 30 days before close, I noticed that my house had still not be appraised. I called and spoke to my team member, and they told me not to worry, and they would get that scheduled ASAP. A week went by, and still no appraisal. So I called them back and was told not to worry and that they would escalate the issue internally and that my appraisal would get done.

    When another week went by and I still didn't have an appraisal, I started to freak out. I asked if I needed to talk to my seller about extending escrow and pushing my movers out a week. They told me not to call my seller and that I had nothing to worry about. So... 10 days before close, the same day that all of my worldly possessions were being packed up and driven from California to Maine, they call me and tell me that they still do not have an appraisal and that they would likely not be able to get one in time. I was coming in with is very likely 35% of the value of the home, and asked for a waiver. They said absolutely not. They told me that my best bet would be to try a local lender that could get an appraisal done... 10 days before close! So now, my things are driving across the country, I have already closed on my house in California, and I am homeless.

    Now I am forced into a corner, and have to use a local lender for a full point higher than I was locked with Better. The staff was completely unable to solve even the most basic problems. When asked for a letter to my seller (who was so pissed they were ready to walk) explaining that the delay had nothing to do with me and was their failure to secure an appraisal, I was told that they would be unable to provide anything of the sort. They misled me into a terrible situation by telling me that there was nothing to worry about and it ended up costing me a ton of money. Stay away!!

    With an excellent credit rating and ample income to qualify for a refinance, we were pre-approved quickly and I spent hours uploading documents and completing forms online. My income had dropped during Covid and Better decided to exclude it completely, claiming they were following FNMA guidelines. I spoke with FNMA and learned that the lender makes the policy, not FNMA. They requested a copy of the underwriting denial letter, which does not state what I was told verbally. We have not only never paid anything late, we have been prepaying for years and have assets greater than seven times the amount we sought to refinance.

    I went through a separation, so I needed to remove someone off the old mortgage. I didn't want to refinance, but it was great timing for everything on my end. Right now, interest rates are great and I was pleasantly happy and surprised with Better Mortgage. Working with them was definitely a great experience overall. They're not one of the more recognizable names out there when you're looking to refinance, but they were willing to continuously help. Everyone always starts off with a friendly attitude of wanting to assist, but Better Mortgage was consistent. Their dashboard was easy to navigate as well. "You have homework pretty much. Get these things done." They did not just ask to get things done, but also explained why that was helpful in the process.

    The loan officer, Alex, was a nice individual. There were times that I probably frustrated him and he never showed that. He never cracked. He was always supportive and positive.     I've worked with other refinance companies before and they wanted an arm and a leg and two feet. I like that the stuff that Better Mortgage asked for was standard, but it was also doable and wasn't anything out of the ordinary. They also had the lowest rates.     My experience started off really well. They were very responsive, and everything moved pretty quickly. The website was up to snuff, and it was straightforward to submit all the documents. But at closing, we had an issue with the funding. It was a cash-out refinance, but they thought that they had to pay the person directly. There was no mortgage on the house, and the funds had to be sent to me. So there was a period of about two and a half weeks after closing that I didn't receive those funds and the cash-out refinancing. It really threw a wrench in a lot of my other plans and ended up being a lot more expensive for me. But they ultimately got the money to me. If somebody isn’t doing a cash-out refinance, I would definitely recommend them.

Anytime I had a question, I just scheduled it with the loan officer. She would call me at precisely the moment that was scheduled on the calendar and she never missed a day. The only issue that we ran into was their coordination with our local title company. The closing was scheduled to have it done in our house. But the title company never showed up. 15 minutes after they were supposed to be here, I started calling people. Then I found out that the title company did not have a traveling notary so we had to rush to go to the title company to get everything done. Overall, Better was able to do something in a month that my bank had taken two months.

    Working with Better Mortgage was good. The only thing I didn't like is it was really hard to connect with people when I needed something. Calling and trying to get with my agent and asking questions, it was a process. But the mortgage rate was a little bit lower than everything else. I assumed that service is just not as good as if I went to a bank and had a person instead of a call center. And everyone had different paths, so it wasn't a one-stop-shop where I can have someone who was knowledgeable. I had to speak to different portions of the assembly line and not get my answers from one person. So, that was a little bit frustrating.

    We shopped around and contacted every mortgage provider for New York City and it was a lot easier to handle and speak to other people. It was a lot more personal and there was a lot more in terms of communication and connection. I had a guy at KeyBank who was handling my mortgage and he gave me a cell number. There was another guy who Zoomed with me and went through the whole process of the mortgage. So, I got a whole lot more information from other people. I'm a first-time homebuyer and they were a lot more ready and willing to be like, “Oh, let me just hold your hand while we do this,” or I ask questions, or I wanna shop around for a formula to figure out the interest rates. Whereas, with Better Mortgage, I have to figure it out for myself.

    But the interest rates weren't the same. And a 30-year mortgage with even a 0.01 of difference is enough for me to deal with. So, I went through the assembly line. I'd recommend Better Mortgage but shop around. If Better Mortgage is the place with the cheaper interest rate, then go for that. The loan officer was as helpful as she could be. But there's still limitations to everything that she knew or where we were in the assembly line. The issue was getting to her, whether it was email or trying to call her. ‘Cause sometimes they just don't wanna deal with the email. I would never recommend this to my mother because she'd be lost. She'd have to be more internet-savvy and more used to the emailing. I definitely don't think Better Mortgage is for the older generation but it's better for younger folks. Also, it's not so great for first-time homebuyers. Fortunately, got to have all of my questions answered by other mortgage companies, so I have less reliance on Better.

    Better Mortgage did everything online. They told me what documentation they needed and there was no interaction with another person, except for the notary personnel. I tried to call one of the team members to ask a couple of questions, but I never got ahold anyone. I emailed once and it came with response. Other than that, I thought, “Ah, forget it.” Instead of, “Why do you need this?”, “What other things I could give?”, or “I already give you this information, why you ask again?”, I just resubmit whatever even though it’s already been asked. It's faster that way for me. The process took three weeks, and it was straightforward and standard. I'm proactive and whenever something was asked, I try to get that information right away. A lot of the information, I was prepared already prior to because I've been shopping around. I have also done refi before, so I have an understanding how things work and what is asked.

    I understand there's a balance and a cost to everything. If there’s more human face availability, it causes Better Mortgage to have more operational cost and they they wouldn’t pass the savings to us. I'm not used to this whole new world of digital age, but it has its perks. They asked a lot more documentation than I ever experienced, and it was very convenient that I could upload at my convenience. All in all I'm satisfied. The rates and terms are very competitive.

    We used Better because of 5 star reviews on NerdWallet and other personal finance websites. Getting pre-approved for a loan was easy and completing tasks was simple to a point. My wife is self-employed and they couldn't answer a question for 5 days about how to notate her income. We set numerous meetings with Justin C at Better and he kept having "audio issues" or just plain skipped our appointments without notice or an excuse. We ultimately had to switch to a local lender while under contract because of how unresponsive Better's team was. DO NOT USE BETTER if you don't have cookie cutter income statements, as their computer can't process things and their team is ridiculously useless. It felt like we were not a priority and they could care less about us. Home buying is already a stressful process and Better's team made it 100x worse. If I could give them 0 stars I would, it was that bad.

    Better Mortgage was very positive and supportive being me as a customer. But they also have a long way to go in terms of improvement. There were multiple stakeholders and people involved in this and I hate the overall process. There were a lot of things that were hidden. Nothing wrong with them, or the party that we are talking about on the phone. It could just be a lot of regulations and compliance and keeping the confidentiality of the seller. It could be much more transparent. I would like to see everyone get out of this process including the lawyers, and just the buyers and sellers and the lenders. There were a lot of mistakes on the documents that I was getting from my attorney that I had to mitigate out.     If I was shopping around, I would have gotten a better deal somewhere, but I was looking for a fast process and that's why I went with Better Mortgage. Their process was streamlined and everything was notified quickly on the app. I always used to get an answer. If there's a question, just put the question and you get an answer, or email and then follow up later. It doesn't have to be at the same time. I like the automation that Better Mortgage has done with everything.

    Although the loan closure took some time, the application approval and finalizing the cost was a week. The only thing is the rates that are shown on the website are not the rates that you get when you talk to a person over the phone. They are always the lowest and it can be made more transparent.     I was working with a mortgage company and we were far down the road. But their rep made a couple of mistakes and when I reached out to her, she told me she would get back to me in a few days. That was too important to wait for her to figure stuff out so I reached out to Better Mortgage and I truly preferred them better once I started with the process. Everything was step-by-step online. I had a portal and I uploaded all my own documents. I could see where everything was at every step of the way.

    I only have one complaint. When I decided to go with them, I had already done an appraisal with the other mortgage company. Better Mortgage said I had to do another appraisal. They couldn't use the one that was done. But there was only a week gap. They also said they would reimburse me for up to $500 for the new appraisal but they never did. I followed up a couple of times then the story changed. Other than that, everything else is great. They still ended up being less money.

    I’ve done a couple of mortgages with Better Mortgage. Some of them were for purchases and others were for refinancing. I do some investment properties. This time I did a 30-year fixed loan with them. They have a very simple online process and it took a couple of minutes to fill out the initial application. I was then contacted right away by the originator. They walked me through their process a little bit more and they were constantly in communication with me after closing. It goes through an originator then an underwriter then a processor then through a closer.

    I've talked to several representatives. I liked their responsiveness and they were very attentive to make sure that the transaction happened as quickly as possible. Better Mortgage has a good platform for people who do a one-off transaction. You get the lowest rate without any fees at closing or you can buy points that lower your rate. You have the flexibility of viewing those options. The only thing is if I were to get another mortgage with them, their platform doesn't automatically take information from my first application. I would have to refill all the paperwork again from scratch. I gave that feedback to Better Mortgage and they agreed with me. Other than that, I've had a phenomenal experience.

    I was told Better Mortgage had the best rates and they would match anything that was out there. I couldn't go wrong. Overall, the process is simple. The part that potentially could be improved is when you originally apply, they don't necessarily give you the best rates even though your credit profile and your situation are top of the line. In my case, the rates they were displaying on Bankrate and other websites weren't necessarily the same that was offered to me initially. But if you place a call out to their customer service, they'll make it right.

    When looking for a lender, the most important thing is that I'm getting the best price and that the process is simple and straightforward. Refinances can take months on end. With Better Mortgage, they have it down to two to four weeks which is painless relative to other big banks. One of the things I've been laughing about is Quicken Loans which is the nation's largest lender. Their rates are a whole percentage point higher than most lenders on average. Generally, I recommend Better Mortgage. I just tell people to watch the rate and be ready to speak up if something doesn't look right.

    I'm not normally one to write long reviews, but if I can save just one person from having an experience like mine, I have to in this case. Better.com is the worst kind of digital company. They want all of the cost savings associated with being an online only originator, but don't deliver at all on the experience. Be prepared for ridiculous delays (we will get back to you within 24 hours claim is a joke), being forced to submit the same documentation over and over again with no explanation, and in the end having random decisions with no reasonable explanation.

    I applied with high credit score and 15 year employment history with the same company. The mortgage amount was less than my annual income and I have more than enough cash in the bank to pay it off. For this low risk case, they somehow managed to drag out the process for four months. The low point for me was having to submit the same form for the fifth time after having it repeatedly rejected with no explanation (it was finally revealed that I had to check a box with a pen rather than typing an x on the computer). After uncountable similarly frustrating experiences, I thought I had finally emerged from their torturous process when I got my approval notification and a task to schedule my closing. How wrong I was! They follow this up with a text saying that they will now not move forward with my loan. Their stated reason: I travel too much for work. After 4 months, and close to $600 spent I still have no mortgage and no legitimate explanation as to why.

    My overall experience with Better Mortgage, including the website experience and all the technologies that have been put in place nowadays, was phenomenal. My only issue was with my closing officer. I was repeatedly telling her that I wanted to move my closing date from what I had entered on the very first day of online application by two days because I had some serious constraints that required that adjustment. She didn't communicate very well throughout that process of pulling in the closing date by two days. Then she wrongly gave me the impression that yes, everything has been taken care of but it was not. We had to scramble with so many changes at the last minute.

    It was a very stressful experience. I found everything very lame that a mortgage company cannot provide some flexibility on the closing date. I gave so much heads up that I needed to change my date. That was almost six weeks in advance, but still, the company couldn't enable the new date which was October 21st. It finally closed on the 22nd after a lot of scrambling and that one-day move was also a huge issue on my end. I had my corporate move and everything was tied to that date.

    The process with Better Mortgage was easy, and I could do it after hours when they were closed. It was nice. I did the application while I was on the phone with them one day. They said, “Hey, could you do this for us real quick?” The whole thing was over and done in a month. We must have started around the 1st of July, and beginning of August, we were done. The reps were fabulous. I could send them emails. They understood that my husband and I were both educators, and they would send us things where they knew they could reach us then we could respond back. Normally, it was in the evening and regardless of which step we were in, there was always somebody that was there to respond or help us.

    The only frustrating part for me was the fact that as soon as it was done, before I could pay the first bill, my loan had been sold somewhere else. Not only was it sold once, it was sold twice. That was a bit crazy. It went from Better to The Money Source to Mr. Cooper. As soon as I was getting it set up for one, then it was time to set it up somewhere else. I didn’t love that.     With Better Mortgage, there was a credit towards closing. The interest rate was good and there were some incentives there. I talked to my account rep about the rate that I wanted. I wanted a lower rate, but then I was looking at the upfront cost associated with that rate. So, I went with the higher rate. After that, I was assigned another person to help coordinate it. Everything was done online, and they would tell me what I needed to do, what forms and documents I needed to upload, and I would go back and forth with that.

    The application and underwriting process went pretty quickly. It was only a few weeks between the application and the underwriting once I uploaded the documents. From the time I started until everything was done was only a few weeks. It went pretty rapidly because I had access to the documents that I needed. There were a few things that I had to ask questions about. There were some stuff that they were asking for that I wasn't necessarily sure I was sending the right things, and we'd go back and forth on notes and emails.

    It's just that some of the documents that they requested I thought applied to multiple things. On some of the documentation that they were requesting and the questions that were asked, it made me wonder, “Am I sending the same thing twice?” The process itself went relatively smoothly. My biggest issue is after closing. My loan has been transferred two or three times. I sent a note to Better Mortgage, and I'm not getting any responses now.

    I've had professional, friendly and quick interactions with the rep. I uploaded all the information on the application, and there was just a couple of questions that he asked to verify. I had initially had some problems with software because I was doing a cash out loan, and the system wouldn’t let me proceed because I didn't have a mortgage company. So, I had to work with Mark to figure out how to get past that issue. The majority of my Q&A were in email. There was a time that I did talk to Akiel because I was concerned about the appraisal. I thought the appraiser made some errors in the documentation. Akiel told me I could go through the appeal process, but that would delay everything.

    As far as uploading the document or if I had a question, there was a place in the documentation where I could say, “I've got a question” Usually, I would do that in the evening and by the next morning, they would tell me what I needed to do or to disregard it, or if they have what they needed. They could improve on some of the clarity on some of the questions on the documentations that they were asking for. There was a place in the documentation that you could schedule a phone call with the person that you're working with as far as your loan officer or somebody who happened to close. But those appointments were like three days into the future from the time you really needed it. So, that could have been an improvement.

    The other thing was service after closing. It's been pretty much nonexistent. It's like, “Okay, we closed it. We funded it. We sent you a letter saying that we transferred you to one company, and we're pretty much done.” Then from that company, I got another letter saying that they had transferred me to another company. Then I got a letter two weeks later from the FHA saying that they have bought the loan, and they gave me the name of a different servicing company. So, I'm sitting here going, “I'm not sure who I'm supposed to be paying this mortgage.” They had said initially that they do sell your mortgage. So, within a couple of weeks of closing, they sold it to TMS, The Money Source. Then within a week or so after I got that, they told me that they were changing service providers to Mr. Cooper.

    In the meantime, I got this letter from TMS saying that I needed to pay them. I got a letter about a week or so later from FHA saying that they had bought it. They had indicated that there was a different servicer than Mr. Cooper. I got the letter after I paid TMS for September. My September payment was coming up and I didn't want it to be late. Then I get a letter from Mr. Cooper saying I owe for September. I paid TMS so I did talk to them yesterday and I told them, “I'm not even sure I'm supposed to pay you guys.” Fannie Mae told me that they had bought the loan, and they gave me the name of another company that wasn't Mr. Cooper, and then Mr. Cooper said that they go by different name. So, I'm just sitting here going, “Okay, by October 1, I've got to pay somebody because I don't want my mortgage to be late.”

    I have emailed Better a couple of different times saying, “I'm not sure what's going on. I’ve never heard of somebody named Mr. Cooper. Is this legit or what? I'm not sure.” That's been the most confusing thing for me and not hearing from Better Mortgage, except for you calling today. That's been the most frustrating thing.

    I initially was concerned with Better Mortgage being an online-based company that their rates would be elevated but we did some rate shopping and we could not find a better rate anywhere else. We did a quick estimate online and then, we scheduled a phone call for initial application. They did everything remotely then they sent someone to my house for closing. The online application was very simple and the directions for all the documents they needed were all available. The only issue that I had with the entire process was that they would request from the insurance company and also request it from me, so I would request it from the insurance company. The insurance company was getting frustrated because we were both asking for the same things. But I've already given them that feedback.

    My preferred form of communication was primarily via email if I had concerns but I could either schedule phone calls or I could walk in and talk to a representative. The downside to the call center is that it's not the agent that's working on your case. It's someone available to answer questions. So, the benefit of communicating via email and scheduling calls was that you could talk to the person that was familiar with the specifics of your case.

    Better Mortgage's online application process was super easy to do. The gal there was super awesome to work with and she said she would call me back the next day and walk me through the next step.     Better Mortgage was able to offer the product that I wanted, which was the cash-out refinance for an investment property. At this point, almost nobody else was offering that. I was very pleased with the online application process. It was very user-friendly. At first, I was a little concerned about how I would contact people for questions and stuff but I had people I could have called. And when I used the chat function, somebody responded usually within a couple of hours. I don't think I ever went more than 24 hours without a response.

    The only thing that I might have wished is that all the steps were made available at the beginning. But I understand that there are certain steps that can't be revealed until other things are done. Also, I was very surprised by the rate and terms.     I wanted to get a 15 years conventional loan and I was looking for a rate that I needed. When I searched, Better Mortgage came back and gave me 10 different rates. I just picked, "Okay, I want 2% in 15 years," and clicked on "next." I did it on the 7th and I closed on the 25th. The process was too simple. Even on the day that we were closing my loan, I wasn't sure if it was true. I just refinanced a couple of years ago and I got an officer who sent me information and what he needed. With Better Mortgage, everything was online. I uploaded everything and it was definitely much better, but it felt weird. I struggled with one thing that I needed to get too. Other than that, I freaked out. I didn't know who my servicer was and that was the only thing I was scared of.

    At the beginning, there were a few people calling, and at the end, Lauren called to make sure I got everything. However, it would be nice to get one or more calls from someone following up to make sure, "I know you got everything done, but is there anything else that you have questions?" If I have a question, I just email and then a rep replies back. My loan has been sold to Fannie Mae and Mr. Cooper as the new servicers. I understand that, in order to get more loans coming in, Better Mortgage has to sell to a different company, but I don't know how my tax is gonna be paid and all my escrow. Are the new servicers gonna receive those income to be able to pay for the tax or insurance? I'm worried about that.

    We've been waiting weeks to close our simple refinance, but every step of the way has been plagued by Better's incompetence, whilst they continually blame other parties for the delay. For example after chasing up, Better claimed the delay was down to our current lender failing to respond to them for weeks, but in fact that company confirmed that they had only just received the request the day before. Another delay was due to their not even providing an address for the current lender to send the documents. Finally we were told that the loan was ready to close and we selected a timeslot for the notarized signing of paperwork, but that appointment wasn't kept and now they are claiming that issues with a subordination agreement mean they need to restructure the loan. This loan still hasn't closed and with every fiber of our being we regret using Better.com!

    I was looking to refi my house and Better Mortgage was responded to my inquiry through the web. I was able to work with their team to get the rates down to what I was looking for. I was pleased with the rates I got as that was one of the qualifying criteria for me. I enjoyed their process because everything was online.     When I moved forward with Better Mortgage, I was happy that I got a good rate, and I locked it in. I liked the process because it told me if I had a task and based on the task, I needed to take care of A through B then I would upload it, et cetera. But in some cases, some of the tasks were vague. Even though I uploaded whatever they asked for, it wasn't specifically what they were looking for. The communication could have been a little bit more clear. But I like the system because it was encrypted. That made me feel more comfortable. Taking care of the privacy of my data was also impressive. I like that because they were always on top and concerned about breach of data confidentiality. That stood out really well compared to other banks which use conventional email for swapping out confidential information.

    Better Mortgage assumed that I owned that company. They asked for a ledger on a company that was basic for consulting that I did for a company, and it was very short period. The underwriter was asking for way too much info that did not apply so that made it more complicated. I'm in the tech world so I know how to get around computers, capture files, upload them, and put all this stuff on to the cloud or encrypted data. There are a lot of individuals that could benefit off of the refi through Better Mortgage, but the issue is they don't have the same capabilities. They're not tech-savvy or they don't have the proper equipment for either scanning or converting to PDFs so it's difficult for them on their end.

    Better Mortgage could develop a phone app where one could take a picture of documents that they want that would automatically upload it to the specific task that they're looking for. That would make it easier for a lot of people because then they could just get their phone, take a screenshot of the front, maybe of each page of the document, and it upload it to their system that's encrypted.

    The rate and terms were one of the best. In some cases, if they could turn around and be a little bit less lenient when somebody wants to consolidate debt, then that would help out also. A lot of times, they look at debt to ratio. But if you pay off the debt, hypothetically, the debt to ratio is going to be a lot better. If they have control over it on their end and say that, "Okay, we're not going to let the client pay off the debt, we're going to pay off the debt," because then they can automatically see that once the debt is paid, the debt to ratio is pretty much within the borrowing limit.

    We had an awful experience with Better Mortgage. In the end, we refinanced 2 mortgages and received excellent rates BUT it was a terribly painful experience. The beginning of the experience with Better was good while they collected our information and started the application process. Once we were approved the closing process was terrible. Better continually made mistakes with paperwork, providing wrong information, providing the wrong paperwork, Title errors, and even funding and closing one of the mortgages BEFORE the paperwork was correct, complete, or signed! We ended up paying $1,000s more than necessary that needed to be refunded to us in the end.

    Their closing "expert" only had 9 months of mortgage experience. Even after escalating the issues to management (this took 5 requests via email and phone before management was made aware) then things started to smooth out but errors did continue. It took 3 months to close both mortgages which resulted in our having to keep generating documents for them (i.e. current bank account balances, etc.) Honestly I cannot recommend using Better Mortgage unless you are extremely familiar with the process and can check all your documentation yourself for accuracy.

    It took 7 visits from a notary to our house (during COVID) to get all the correct papers to us to be signed. They would keep coming with the wrong docs from the title company. We did not appreciate having these strangers coming to our house bringing a possible COVID exposure. Even after the closure, there continue to be complications as the loan servicers keep changing and in one case one of our loans has already been sold to Freddie Mac. The good news is we are locked in on 1.75% for 15 years on our home and 2.5% for 30 years on our investment property.

    My application with Better Mortgage was fairly easy to upload but there was some kind of algorithm check, then the computer held on one thing, so I had to reach out to one of the reps to help me get through the checkpoint. But it worked out and the process throughout was pretty good, depending on who your point of contact at the given phase is. That person may or may not be as responsive as the previous person. At first, the person I was in contact with was easy to get ahold of and easy to communicate with. Then I got an email saying that from that point on, my new point of contact was going to be another person. And that person was a little less convenient as far as working with my schedule.

    But other than that, it was a really good experience. You get a decent rate with Better Mortgage compared to working with a traditional lender from the bank. But then you have to be willing to do some of the stuff and expect less handholding. I've worked in the past with lenders from the bank where you can call and they hold your hand through everything. With Better Mortgage, you don't get that level of customer service, but I didn't have an issue with that. And if you go with them, you have to be somewhat savvy on the computer. If you're 75, you don't stand a chance.

    The folks I had direct interaction with were fantastic, hard workers, very responsive, and easy to get ahold of. However, they were young kids, and one could tell that they were being fed information from outside management. The very first fellow that I worked with provided a rate to me and we got all of that written in. Then in less than 10 days before the closing, all of a sudden, not only did my rate changed, but I had points. I called my loan mortgage gal and she said she didn't know what happened, she couldn't advise me, and that she's from another state. I was buying a house in Illinois and this gal I was working with was not even licensed to work for an Illinois mortgage. She had to keep reaching out to get the information from someone who is licensed to do a mortgage in Illinois. That was ridiculous. I told her to find it out. We had emergency phone calls over the weekend. They had to work that time to figure out what was going on.

    Come Monday, I finally had an interaction with the underwriter. I was given some options to choose which rate I wanted. We decided on that and they had to rewrite everything quickly and send out new paperwork. I told them that the owners are signing that day and that we got to get this right. They were scrambling. I asked them how did this change in the first place. They said their manager told them to change it. They just did it on the internet and sent me the new paperwork. There was no conversation at all. I told them that this is borderline falsification information and that they are in serious trouble. After I wrote that to them, I got the rate I wanted. Plus, Better gave me a little bit of compensation on my insurance because I put down less than 10% or the PM.

    In the real estate office, signing the paperwork, me, my attorney, and the mortgage people were there. We got all signed then my attorney left. We then got a message from Better Mortgage saying that the paperwork is wrong and they have to correct it. I have to call my attorney to come back. We have to wait for them to fix their paperwork and resend it to us. Luckily, there were only a few pages that we needed to resign so we did that and my attorney hung around. The broker gal came in the office and said they finally got the check, but it was $100 short from Better. I asked her if she wanted me to write her a check for $100 and I could cash it as well. She then told us to go home and to give me the key and that she would deal with Better. That was very gracious of them. However, we nearly did not get things done. I will not recommend Better to anyone.

    I checked with my current provider and they couldn't match the rate, so I started going down that path and stuck with Better Mortgage. I liked the fact that it was all automated and everything is done online. I did two standard loans with them. It was time-consuming, but the process itself wasn't difficult. They just asked for a lot of stuff, but that's typical. I just had to upload documents to the website every few days. It was easy to do the tasks and the steps. They have a task list so I knew exactly what I was supposed to do, what I have left, and what I've done. I can review them all.

    I just wish it could have been a little faster. It shouldn't have taken that long since it was all automated. It should take four weeks at the most. Some steps could have been faster. We had to extend the rate lock twice on one of the loans and once on my primary. But everything else was fine. They handled it good. The people were all nice to work with.     I did a bunch of research in the different local companies around me. Better Mortgage's turnaround time was significant on a refinance, which is what I got. And based on all the reviews online, I read that they can pretty much process just about as quick as you can provide them the information. So with their pretty self-explanatory system to upload documents and all that, I was able to get it done in a much faster timeframe. Better Mortgage's process on a refinance was very ideal. With my time zone difference, being on the West Coast and me in Central Time, it worked out to where they were available on the evenings. I was able to speak to Rashmi. She was my coordinator through the majority of that. But Better Mortgage immediately sells off and changes who you're sending your mortgage payments to instantly. It’s a bit frustrating. Other than that, everybody has to deal with that and they handled it well.

    Their process was a superfast one. It was about 25 days from the very start to actual funding. There was one time where it was the only time that they outsourced any portion of the refinance process. But I had to use a third party over the phone verification process where I got on the call with them via a code that was sent to me. Then they called my, at the time, current lender to verify all of the data and the numbers from my current lender. I don't know why they had to do that, but that was the most frustrating process. I was speaking to the same person the whole time. Having to deal with an outsourced third party didn't go too well.

    Better Mortgage tries and steers you towards appointments on the website. Pretty much anytime you have an issue, there's a button on the screen you're looking at that says, “Do you have an issue?” When you click it, they try and get you to set up an appointment with somebody. I never did that. I personally use the chat feature on the specific problem I had, and they responded so quickly. Then, if I felt like it was something to worry, then I would just give my individual person. She was great from top to bottom. She responded to my calls within super reasonable amount of time. It was 20 minutes mostly which I think is awesome for an industry with such a high workload.

    I'm happy I tried Better Mortgage. As long as you have all your documents together, they're a great service. Some people prefer more of the hand holding. I wouldn't say Better Mortgage is a hand holder but if you're able to leverage technology and get all your stuff together, it's easy. I enjoyed the process because I have an interface to put all my stuff together. I don't need as much hand holding as more resources to help me do it. They provided those resources I needed and were available when I had questions. I tried to get my mom to use them because she was looking to refinance her home. She has a few more issues that complicates her process so she was not able to work with them. But if you have a straightforward process to get a mortgage and it's not complex or if you're just trying to refinance and there are not too many issues, I can't say I've seen anyone go faster in their speed to close.

    Better Mortgage is the best way to go because the other company I was working with were in it for themselves. They were rushing, like people are not educated. My credit score changed because I've paid off my debt. I told the last bank I was dealing with, "My credit score has gone up by 40, 50 points. I'm sure you could probably give me a better rate." They said there was no better rate. They just wanted go ahead and close it. With Better Mortgage, they said, "That makes a huge difference. Let's check it out." Sure enough it did make a difference. It was the best thing I did. The process was simple and straightforward. I had everything filled out within 15, 20 minutes. There are a series of steps but it went so fast it felt kind of incomplete. They give you follow-up questions and email saying you got a new task. There are some questions that they have that felt redundant to me but it's regulatory.

So, in the end, it was probably down to three, all of them competing with giving discounts and this and that rate. They were the ones that seemed honest, transparent and easier to use. So, in the end, I would tell them they're offering me this and Better Mortgage was able to match that. I had done a refinance once before so it wasn't as terrifying as the first time, but they were good about making it not seem scary. The reps always answered and were quick to get back to me.

    Better Mortgage had the best rate out of what I looked at. In addition to that, their process was a lot smoother. It took three weeks total and was straightforward. They probably juggle a lot of different files but the rep was very responsive every time I had a question or sent him an email or called him for something. Everything went as smooth as that whole thing can go. They didn't have any hang-ups. They were able to address any issues that they had right away.

    Better Mortgage gave me the lowest rate and I liked the fact that it was all online. I was very happy with my rep. Two or three times I called, she was not available but whoever did assist me, I appreciated the fact that they could look through my file and were up to speed. It was good that they could step in and be so fluent in what was going on. They were great to work with and the process was super fast. I did it in two months.     My wife and I were looking for a less traditional, less stuffy mortgage route, and Better Mortgage fit the bill for us. I was in charge and ended up liking the web interface, knowing what I had to do each day. It helped us get all of our stuff together. There was only a small window there where it was challenging. Because our parents are elderly and we were getting help from them, I needed more of a personal hands-on approach with a few documents. Things were getting spit back to us that weren't acceptable or weren't getting a thumbs up. But it took one phone call and everyone understood. And we figured it all out. It was never hard to speak to somebody and get clarity or get help. It’s a simplified way to get all of your ducks in a row if you're getting ready to buy a house. And all the rates are competitive. All the information and transparency was there. It was a seamless process for us, so it would be worth considering.

    The rates seemed to be competitive and I liked the ease of use but what stood out about Better Mortgage was they didn't have an origination fee. They did a good job of communicating and keeping us in the loop. They also allowed us to respond when it was convenient for us. The closing process was faster than what I was anticipating so that was a nice surprise. I've talked to a couple of close friends about how nice the experience was. The app system is nice too. I would do it again for sure.

    The process with Better Mortgage was little lengthy but not too bad. I did two loans and each of them took about two months. There was a lot of paperwork but the rep communicated well. If I hadn't turned in a paperwork or if a new task had showed up, he would call me and email me to tell me that I needed to get on that. Better Mortgage's communication was way better than the previous company I tried to work with. However, the term of the loan was not competitive though the rates were.

    Better Mortgage offers Fannie Mae loans. I was advised by the screening loan officer that I was a great candidate for that loan. We discussed my circumstances in detail, including all obstacles for this type of loan. He said that I was fine, but that he would run it by his team to make sure. Everything seemed fine, and so we went through the whole process for four weeks, with a costly appraisal. The loan fell through because of items that we thoroughly examined before I committed to the process. It really messed things up. I qualify for a home equity loan, but four weeks had gone by, and I had a 30 day window to get financing. Better Mortgage lacks respect for the client.
