    I began my mortgage process with Better Mortgage, who ordered an appraisal on my behalf. Later, I decided to continue my mortgage process with Best Interest Financial instead. In order to use the appraisal with my new lender, I paid Better the full amount for the appraisal, expecting to receive everything necessary to proceed.

    Better sent me a PDF of the appraisal report, but they did not include the supporting documents required by my new lender. I engaged in an email chain with Julie Chang and Rachit Patel at Better to resolve this issue, but they refused to provide the missing documents. When I asked whether it was Better’s legal position that the requirement to provide a buyer with a copy of the appraisal does not include all supporting documents needed to close with another lender, they responded by stating they did not appreciate being threatened with legalities. I was simply asking for clarification on their policy.

    The next business day, they sent additional documents, but they still withheld the AIR (Appraisal Independence Requirements) compliance certificate, which is necessary for my new lender to accept the appraisal. As of today, June 27th at 4:00 PM, despite my initial request for the complete appraisal documentation on June 18th at 7:00 PM, Better has still not provided the AIR compliance certificate. This has caused unnecessary delays in my mortgage process, creating financial and logistical challenges. I am requesting that Better Mortgage immediately release the AIR compliance certificate and any other appraisal documentation required by my new lender, as I have already paid in full for this appraisal.

    Had high hopes and started well with responsive agent, fast online process. But we had an employer housing supplement loan that is really just an incentive to help us buy a home. Better didn’t want a third position loan, totally understandable. By my employer routinely subordinates to third position for a HELOC and Better completely abandoned me. Said they ‘don’t go through the effort to file for loan subordination.' Basically, they were like: Sorry, not sorry. At all. And just stopped replying to my messages. They charged me for appraisal and ran my credit score. Just terrible to not tell me that at the outset.

    Working with Samuel ** at Better Mortgage my interest rate and closing costs were lower than any loan estimate I got from any other mortgage company or loan broker by far. Better Mortgage has an automated system that relieves you from worrying about closing on time. They’re gonna be prepared and ready to close before the sellers or escrow or anybody else’s is.

    It’s an automated simple system. You’re always gonna know what tasks are needed from Better Mortgage just by going online and looking at your task list. But there are times you need your loan officer to step in give you advice give you Lender credits discuss what would be your best option. There’s just some things that you really need a loaner for and I would not get another loan from Better Mortgage without Samuel **. I trust no one, but I trust Samuel.. Samuel’s truly been a pleasure to work with and made my experience buying a house as close stress-free as you can get with someone like me.

    Extremely disappointing experience. I was ghosted not once, but twice—first by an agent and then by a supervisor who was supposedly going to "make things right." To make matters worse, they ran a hard credit check without my authorization, which negatively impacted my credit. After wasting a lot of time and energy providing documents and going through their process, I was ultimately told I didn’t qualify, despite having passed prequalification. This company lacks transparency, professionalism, and basic communication. Would not recommend.

    Awful, inexperienced, dishonest. Those are all the adjectives that come to mind when someone asks me about my experience with Better. They bill themselves as this cutting edge lender that relies on AI and machine learning to streamline the process but my experience has been far from that. Initially I thought they were great. Downloading was easy and uploading was a breeze. It’s when human intervention is required is where they drop the ball and let it bounce into another court. The loan processors strung me on until the last minute.

    They went as far as to add themselves to the homeowner’s insurance only to reject me at the last minute. They never ever indicated there would be a problem underwriting, quite the contrary, which resulted in me turning down other loans. And once they rejected me and received push back from me that nice demeanor went out the window. They could care less the time wasted and the situation they now placed me in. They are like all the other Wall Street tech bros. Out for themselves and can care less about their clients. I would avoid this lender at all costs.

    Completely wasted my time, and caused me to lose other helicopter opportunities or personal loan opportunities with emails telling me I was approved when I wasn't. They went to the extent of adding themselves to my homeowners policy as a lien holder only to not approve the loan. They ordered title and wasted my time, and cited inconsistency with rental income. They had the information on day one and were aware of income documents. Total lack of communication, and follow up. I contacted them 7 times asking for status and they continued to assure me and on the app stating I'm approved when I wasn't. Terrible company for a Heloc or any loans. Anyone wanting info or specifics can contact me.

    Do not waste your time, all this company does is get people's hopes up with some junk letter. I had a pre-approval from them. It was low. And then few months went by and it was an approval I could work with. Being 1st time buyer I didn't know a lot, I looked at homes and places to bid. The bid was accepted. That's when I found out the lady I was working with no longer was with company. I put down my earnest deposit down, new lady said do a, b, c and we can lock in rate. I did all the above and rate wouldn't lock in. I question it. She comes at me like I did wrong. When in reality they did me wrong. So I had to take back my bid, fight for my money back. And still no explanation of why from Better. Stay away ....

    Please RUN from this company. They are rude, they avoid admitting when they mess up, they forced my closing to be delayed, they don't answer questions at all unless you have a beast of a realtor who stays on them constantly and even then it's hard to get a timely response.

    First and foremost; our loan went through! Constructive criticism; the purpose of the loan, debt consolidation and home improvement. We submitted all requests for debt, etc., but Better issues checks for the debtor and one, where do they get their abbreviations from? Two, the debt amount has changed since the initial amount was submitted off of our credit report. With payments being made to keep the accounts current. Now we have credit balances! Three, checks, seriously? I haven't paid anything other than my water bill with a check for years! I sent their silly checks out 10 days ago and two still haven't posted so I had to make another minimum payment. Really, checks? The only other issues we had with the process was redundancy on certain information we submitted, having to resubmit!

    This company should be called worse mortgage. Simply go to another company. Poor communication- no return calls. Repeated Questions. Long delays.     I chose Better Mortgage because they had the lowest interest rates when I looked at the list on NerdWallet. I would not choose Better again after my experience working with them. My loan consultant that I worked with was mostly responsive and easy to talk to. Unfortunately the loan coordinator who the loan was handed off to to complete the processing seemed to be incompetent. The coordinator barely returned any of my calls or emails, which can cause terrible anxiety when you're getting close to the closing date and there is radio silence on the other end. So, here's my review:

    Pros:
    - Self-directed since you are responsible for uploading all your documents to the website

    - Easy web interface to use to complete tasks

    Cons:
    - Seemingly mundane tasks, such as picking your signing date and location can block important things like releasing preliminary closing documents to the title company. I got stuck in a catch-22 where the title company was saying they needed the closing docs in order to assign me a signing date/time/location.
    - Coordinator isn't proactive in calling you when there are tasks that are blocking important things (like the one mentioned above). So, your loan can sit idle and you won't even know.
    - Tasks are sometimes rigid where I had a lot of back/forth between my home insurance provider and Better because no one on Better's side would pick up a phone and talk to the home insurance rep. A task was sent back to me because they wanted proof of insurance where the home insurance provider says that they usually issue the policy close to closing.

    - "Rate lock" is just that -- in parentheses. I had my rate changed twice on me. Initially, I was told I shouldn't have gotten the rate that I locked as it was too high. Then after being moved into a lower rate, I was told that there were too many credits being given to me. Finally, I was moved into another yet lower rate and was told this was required due to regulations, etc. In the end, a VP had to step in to help.

    Better Mortgage did not honor the "Close on time guarantee". We posted all required documents the day they were requested. It took several days for them to request more and more documents. Then we were told we did not submit the requested documents on time and did not meet the terms and conditions for the guarantee. We feel we were not treated fairly.

    I checked with a few other mortgage and loan providers but they didn't offer a close rate to what Better Mortgage offered me. At first, the rep from Better Mortgage was pretty responsive and answered all my questions. But after I accepted it, it was hard to communicate with that person. I was able to follow everything online but it was hard to ask my questions along the way or it would take a day to answer a question. The communication along the way can be improved but overall, my experience was really smooth and nice. I really liked it and I would recommend them to my friends.

    The rep was very helpful. He was following up at every step and kept us posted. Even when the system wasn't working well, he was able to go to the system and fix something. I like that the communication was straightforward, everything was transparent and Better Mortgage has a good online backing. The tasks that had to be done were organized and they got done perfectly. Better Mortgage also gave us the option to use our bank. It was very simple to register and pay. However, there were a couple of instances where the builder’s agent provided quotes, but Better was not able to accept that because of the format. The builder’s agent said that was the only format they could provide.

    I liked the ease of the online process with Better Mortgage. The process was quick and expedient online. I was provided the resources and information I needed to make an informed decision. I could reach out to their customer service much easier than a couple of the other banks that I had reached out to throughout the process as well. The process took two to three months. The biggest delay was me. My family and I were traveling to visit the homes and make an offer on the house. That aside, the rate I got was competitive with any of the other mortgage applications I had started, but not finished for that reason. I would recommend Better Mortgage.

    I worked with them for a new mortgage and they were all very informative. The only thing I didn't like was that in order to contact them, you have to go through a line. Every time I had to talk to somebody, I had to schedule a meeting for that day. They had it available, but you had to wait five hours. It sucks because when you have a question or urgent thing you have to wait to get in contact.

    I closed a month ago and during the closing, it took three hours to transfer the funds. It took almost forever to contact somebody regarding that. Also, I just got a letter from Chase that they bought my loan from Better Mortgage. I don't know why they do that. Other than that, Better Mortgage is a good company.

    I went for a 30-year fixed mortgage with Better Mortgage. I put them against another broker that I've used in the past for several mortgages, and they were able to compete with that. They were able to do the best they could do. My initial contact and the one who helped me through the loan process were great to work with. They were very responsive via email. It was a little difficult though. I had to schedule a time to speak with them, and they didn't have times that were always available. But they responded to my questions and had answers or got me answers to everything I needed.

    The process was a little bit longer than any lender I've used in the past. It was good because it was all online, but they had a lot of requirements for documents. I would often submit something then a day later they would ask for a minor revision. I'd submit again, and they'd ask for another minor revision. One of the best examples is they asked for a signed contract between me and the seller, and I gave that to them. They said I needed the address on there. I gave it to them again. They said I needed the date on there. The back and forth could have been simplified. The checklist that they had was at least double of what I'm usually given when I apply for a mortgage. They could improve on the steps that were required. Some of these steps, I did not have to do with previous lenders.

    I applied for a standard 30-year mortgage with a fixed rate and the process with Better Mortgage was very smooth. It took a little bit longer than three weeks, from beginning to the end, but only because when they were ready to sign paperwork and get moving, the seller and I agreed to close on another date since they were leaving any time to move out. So, we were able to close whenever we wanted. I worked with Luke at Better Mortgage and he was very informative. He was always there and if I wrote him, he responded immediately. If I wrote him a question after hours, sometimes he'd even respond after hours. He was easy to deal with, too.

    I got Better Mortgage from Credit Karma. I liked the interest rate that they were offering so I did the thing there. The reason why I chose Better was because it wasn't just better at first. I like their website and it made the task easier. All I had to do was confirm, read it through PDF, download the PDF then sign that I read it. I really liked that. The people talking were easy to contact as well. The interest rates that they were offering were pretty low compared to other places. They were very helpful with people that don't know much. They're understanding and they don't get mad. They're very calm.

    The first person that helped me find a rate was Adam and he was cool. He explained a lot about the rates and how they're affected. There wasn't really much he could have done because I already knew the house that I wanted and I already knew how much it was gonna cost. The second person was Lisa and she was the loan coordinator. She helped me finish everything up. She bore with me all the way. Since it was my first time, I didn't know anything about buying a house or just managing it. I had so many questions. I was so scared to move forward but she gave me some information about everything going through. There was one more person at the end of the process.

    The whole process took three months. It worked out because the person I was buying the house from was very close. It was easy to contact him and I could get a lot of stuff from him. I had to get some lead disclosures and he did that in a week. Everything was pretty smooth because of him. Also, there were people like Lisa. I like Better. I only wish there were fewer phone calls. I was in the middle of school and there was a lot of phone calls asking the same thing such as emails and phone numbers. It was mostly about the stuff about comparing my identity. That was annoying. It was those little things that kept on adding up. It was just an excessive amount of calls.

    The application process was very easy and I worked with Michael. Customer service did a great job. I could contact them at any time and they responded fairly quickly. Even if I was up late at night and I shot them an email, they probably would respond the next morning. I was completely comfortable working with them. The only thing that Better Mortgage could improve on is that once you're done with everything, there is another company servicing your mortgage. That can cause some hiccups. I made my first payment to Better Mortgage then they transferred it to somebody. There is now the process of them sending that money to the new company. They called me a couple of times and they sent me a bill with two mortgage payments on it and I knew that I had already paid one.

    I got a conventional home loan and filling out the application and providing all the documents were all done on the website. Accessing it, and requesting and getting preapproved was simple. Everybody was responsive and extremely helpful. The reps were timely and the system was easy to follow in terms of all the tasks. Any time that something was confusing, I was able to ask for clarification and they gave me a very easy to understand response.

Sometimes, I didn't understand some of the terminology being used and I asked for clarification on those things, and she was more than happy to help with all of that. The system was fantastic and I would recommend it to anybody who wants something like that. Everybody always wants a little bit lower interest but for what I got, I'm more than happy. Better Mortgage took all the stress out for me. The experience was extremely exceptional and intuitive, and very simplified down for somebody who doesn't understand the market or understand that world. So it was phenomenal.
