    Better Mortgage has a super easy application process. All was done online. They present you with tasks to complete, which makes it easy to knock things out one by one. The mortgage process took 30 days. The rates I got were as good as it was gonna get right now. This was a new mortgage. This was the second time I’ve used Better Mortgage and working with them is easy. For any future mortgages in the next year or two, I'll probably end up going through them again.

    I've worked with Better before and the process went pretty well my first time around. I went back to Better and there were a few things that came up that were confusing in terms of the task that I had. There was one where it was telling me something about submitting stuff for the purchase approval and addendums and what it was asking for was unclear. There was a lot of back and forth of me sending something, getting rejected, sending, and then calling to try to get some clarity on it.

    Then, at the very end, we had to add my wife to a lot of the agreements and her signatures on it at the last moment. I feel like that part could have been handled better. Also, I talked to various people along the way and the hand-off between people wasn't always clear. I would call whoever I can get a hold of and I would talk to them. Other than those, the rest of the process was pretty smooth. There were other issues that came up that were addressed really quickly and easily.

    I reached out to Better Mortgage and what they showed would be my estimated interest rate is exactly what they came back with. The whole process from start to almost closing was pretty seamless. They had it broken down into steps and they were easy to follow. They were very responsive once you have the information requested uploaded and they were very good at keeping in touch and letting you know what's going on. The rep I worked with was Allen and he stayed in contact very well.

    The issue was the closing company was trying to get the closing documents from the company after Allen had handed it off to a processor. It seemed like she didn't have a lot of experience. She was reading back some stuff to me about my rates are gonna change and it wasn't even my mortgage. That was problematic at first. Also, she was very slow on getting the documents to the closers. On the day of the closing, my closers had to call and put their foot down. The closing was a very big hassle but everything up to that point was perfect.

    The application process was easy but when we were trying to close, they said we couldn't talk to underwriter and we got to talk to the coordinator. It kind of sucked and the coordinator did not know what was going on either. They got it sorted out at the end but it should not be a stressful process. Other than that, the reps are amazing and the coordinator is great. Things get done.

    If you're concerned about closing costs and struggling with purchasing a home, look into Better Mortgage. If you're looking for little bonuses for closing early, or if you're worried about getting approval, Better makes it easy and they're straightforward. On an initial search, Better Mortgage offered the best incentives for working with them versus any other bank or lender and they also had competitive rates.

    I worked on getting the preapproval, sharing the financial information such as my salary and current debts. We got the pre-approval, and submitted the offer with the seller. Once they accepted, we got the official loan letter. And from there, it was confirmation of my financials and getting the whole inspection done and appraisal, which ended up being waived, and getting final approval. Better calculated that the value of the home met a certain condition. So, they offered me to waive the appraisal. I took that because otherwise, the appraisal would have cost me an extra $500.

    The most frustrating part was getting that final approval. There were a lot of questions about some transactions with my bank, which I understand because I was moving money around to different savings accounts while I was waiting for the actual closing. And those large transfers brought up a lot of questions that the underwriter had and we needed to justify that. That required a lot of work. It was frustrating at the time because we were getting close to closing and all these things were being done during the last week and it was a bit hectic.

    Other than that, the interactions were good with Better, and with my real estate agent. Everyone was honest. They told me what I needed to know and they were very knowledgeable. They answered all my questions. If they didn't know the answer, they referred me to someone who did who would end up answering my question. David acted as the middleman, talking between me and the underwriter. He was very good and we talked a bit on the phone a couple of times when he would give me updates.

    When I started exploring Better Mortgage, things were so fast and they were so responsive. All the details were right there on the dashboard to look at. I didn't have to ask too many questions. Everything was out there on the dashboard. With the other companies, I had to really dig deep and ask them how much my closing cost is going to be, and what that means.     I got a better deal wth Better Mortgage in terms of mortgage rate. I got the best interest rate with the competitive offer that I got. Also, Better Mortgage tied up with my company to provide their employees with an incentive of a couple of thousand dollars. That also helped me. The process was good. Everything was online, so it was really good. I was able to operate most of the things through online and my emails. I rarely called the representatives on the phone. I was happy with the time the process has taken. It was a great experience to get things processed in a faster way. When I was able to close from the time when I started the application process, it was done in about 12 days. It was faster than the quoted time, which was around 15 or 20 days. Better's team was able to get the things done and get ready for closing within 12 days. So, it was really impressive for me.

    The only thing was when there were some documentation that was waiting from the builder, I was not aware that Better was waiting for the documents. So, if there was any mechanism to proactively say there’s something pending from someone, and if they need any help from me, sending an immediate alert, an email or a text message would have helped. Everything else was good. The loan officer is very good. She was knowledgeable. Any question that I asked, she was able to understand and answer it pretty well. Overall, they explain and coordinate things very well as well through them. I got a good experience. I was very comfortable with the people I was speaking with. They're very friendly, even though I wasn’t able to see them in person. I just email them.

    The process with Better Mortgage was very easy. Their team was with me every step of the way. It was never hard to get in contact with them via email and text. It was also very quick and relatively painless. The uploading of the documents might be a little troublesome for somebody that might not have access to a scanner. But, fortunately, when I was doing most of this, I'm IT, so I work with technology all day. I worked with several different people. All of them were very nice. They were very prompt in responding. My wife and I wound up very happy. We got a low-interest rate, lower than anybody else was offering. It was, overall, a pleasant experience from start to finish.

    Towards the end, I also got a call from my realtor. The title company was waiting for some documents to be signed. But I hadn't gotten any over yet. I texted one of my representatives and asked what the deal was. She said we could do a couple of things to not leave money on the table. By the end of it, the cash to close stayed right about the same, but the interest rate went down and we utilized most of what the seller's credit was. Better is open until 10:00 and it was the day before closing. That was great customer service.

    Better Mortgage got back to me soon after I showed interest and asked for information, and I was able to talk to one of the agents and get things along. At that time, the interest rate was picking up higher, so I wanted to lock in the rate. Everything was done on the website and they sent a reminder and any task I had to do. It was efficient and things got along faster than I anticipated. The interest rate I got is very competitive compared to others as well. I checked some other lenders over the phone then through email, and a tech told me that it was cool with Better.com, but they cannot provide that rate that I mentioned. I will recommend people to at least check and see how Better Mortgage is gonna provide the entire service and the rates.

    My daughters purchased a new home, and I pointed them to Better Mortgage. While I wasn't part of the loan, I was somebody on the loan to help. They work during the day and I have a job where I can answer the phone. The reps were good, and I have zero complaints. Better Mortgage also improved their product, and it was better this time than it was a couple of years ago when did a mortgage through them. I have a job that I moved quite a bit around, and I had used Wells Fargo nine times. During the last one, they were completely unhelpful and it was very difficult to even get a pre-approval letter out of them that was correct. They couldn't get it right five times.     The application process was straightforward. Better Mortgage has an online portal, so they could just upload each document as it filled in and I can track my progress as I added each document. It was easy and quite nice. Within applying, I was put in contact with a customer service person that had all of my information already and they walked me through the very last pieces. I was then introduced to my loan coordinator, and we had a few calls. I tend to want to talk on the phone at the least amount as possible and they were able to accommodate that.

    From the time I made first contact to the time I closed was about 28 days, and compared to the other places where I had the rate locked, Better Mortgage's rate and the terms are fair. I had more experienced family members look it over and they said it looks typical. I would always recommend based off of the rate, if they're beating everyone else, and they were very serviceable.

    I went with a 30-year cashout refi from Better Mortgage. You do the application online and get a loan officer assigned to you. The loan office asks for all the docs and once those are over, you’re gonna get an underwriter who’s gonna contact you if they need anything. Then your loan is done within 40 days. The rate is whatever the Fed’s rates are plus base points on top of that.

    I got the conventional program with Better Mortgage and I did it online. I got the documents directly to underwriting. You're assigned a licensed person if you need help. We didn't engage with them that much due to the fact that we're experienced in a sense. But they were available. We talked to them about some things and that was normally something to do with the software. If you're a normal consumer in a different field, it might not be as easy and streamlined. But I knocked out my loan in 12 days. I run a title company so we were able to get it closed very quickly. I knew what the reps would want before they'd want it. All were prepped and any little thing they asked for, I got very quickly. So we were able to close it very fast. They had never seen it done that fast.

    I had a great experience but generally, nothing like I would assume as a normal consumer doing it. The rate was high but it depended on the day. I could have paid it down more. But the rate is what it is. My goal is, when the rate comes down in the future, I'll probably refi. I'm assuming that eventually, they'll drop a little bit. But my rate is good for what it is.

I didn't know if it was between them or the title company, but we had to push our closing to three different times, which was a little frustrating.     Better Mortgage's rates were at the top. It was nice to be able to see everything online. That was a key part other than having to get on the phone and deal with a lot of back and forth. I filled everything out online and it worked out. The rate table was pretty good. There was a good amount of lender credit and it was competitive. The only thing was it's a national lender, so it made me worried a little bit about using a more known one locally to me or a credit union. Other than that, everything closed on time. So, I was pretty happy with it overall.

    The rate was good. The only part that I really wanted was to get a principal reduction because I also had like a Realtor credit and a broker rebate. So, I was hoping to apply some of that, but there were some weird stipulations. I had looked everything up and turned it to them, but it wasn't able to fall through. That was a bit annoying and it was hard to get answers on those.

    Better Mortgage seems to give a little bit better of approval. I got a conventional loan. The first part of the process was really easy. There were a lot of complications, generally, with first time buyers. I had some frustration that my loan coordinator was gone for the entire last month coming up to my closing date. Then, we weren't able to complete things within the first period, so we had to ask the seller to delay. Everything else was relatively easy. When I would call in and ask to talk to somebody on my team, everybody that answered the phone was knowledgeable and super helpful.

    It was just overly complicated to get ahold of somebody that was supposedly in charge of my loan that I could call and talk to. My team lead went on vacation for the last month, and then he came back, and then his team lead went on vacation. So, it was kind of back and forth not really knowing who to talk to. Also, the rate wasn't explained to me super well. I thought it was locked in there for like a 5.6. When I got the closing paperwork, it was like 6.5. Then it was explained to me a little bit better, but it's still a little frustrating. They were willing to switch it back, but the way it was explained to me was it was just less down with a higher interest rate.

    Better Mortgage was on top of everything. Their website has a little task you have to complete. It was easy. The only issue I had was they kept asking me for my divorce papers. I kept telling them I'm not divorced. I had to write a letter stating I was a widow and not divorced. They should have a widow option. At the very beginning, the rep was quick to respond. I was supposed to be able to get a float-down. When I called in to see if I was eligible, he did not get back to me. I had kept calling my coordinator. She sent an email over to his boss. They were supposed to be seeing if I could get some kind of credit but I didn't get that. That was the only issue I had.

    We've used Better Mortgage for a refinance and we've also used them to purchase another home. My only issue is when it got to a certain step, there were a few hiccups with times because we're on the East Coast. So, sometimes that didn't quite work out. The application process was fairly quick. The first portion was good. Once they turned it over to the second person, that's where it seemed like it took a little longer. They would always have to put us on hold and try to get answers. Other than that, they have a pretty simplified process. They move you through the system quickly. It's a fast process, for the most part, if you have all of your information ready. The terms are fine. The rates are a little high, but it's kind of par for the course right now with the economy.

    I like that Better Mortgage doesn't sell their loans to Mr. Cooper. The process was very easy with regard to the application. I had one mortgage lender assigned to me who was registered with the State of California. He did not end up being my loan processor later on. He no longer worked for Better Mortgage during the time of my loan. I was provided a new loan processor who was named Barbara. She and her assistant were excellent. If she needed anything, she would put the note into the portal and it would notify me. I could easily go back in and complete those tasks. There's a task bar where tasks are completed.

    If I had questions, I could call the number that would reach my processor in person. If she was not available, then it would go to a receptionist. The people who answer the phone are very knowledgeable with regard to the processes of the loan. They could answer many questions that I had if they were general questions. But if they were specific, something that required only a licensed person to respond to, then I would have to wait for Barbara to respond. What I also like about Better Mortgage is that they have their own people who were answering questions on the online chat. The communication is always there. There's always somebody on to answer a question.

    The only hiccup we had was a rate change. Once we had already selected a rate and locked it in, we were then told that we couldn't select the rate because my debt-to-income ratio wouldn't allow for it. We had to go back and select a different rate which was not as lucrative as the first. It doesn't provide as big of a credit as the first did. But I like that there was a term in that we could pick a slightly higher rate and get a little bit of a credit towards our closing. Because we bought in California, we had to put 5% down. Putting that amount of money down on a home in California is a lot of money. We took a bit of a credit so that it could help offset some of those cost which was so imperative to us to be able to offset that cost a little bit on moving in. We plan on refinancing with Better Mortgage in the future when rates are a little bit lower. We will be second time customers, hopefully, within the year.

    I liked the portal for uploading documents. The automated emails were fine. I really appreciated how instead of a 30-day close, Better Mortgage ended up doing it for me for three weeks. It was super helpful because I was able to move in faster trying to get into my new place. We had contractors scheduled at our old place and it would have been a mess if we had to stay in there for another week. Better Mortgage made it happen to where I could close on a Friday morning, which got me funded and I could move in that weekend, which was way too fast. But I really needed to get in there pretty quick.

    The only thing was that when I called Better Mortgage and my contact was busy, then I didn't realize that it would go through a call center. I was confused. But they could easily get to a text. Better Mortgage also offered that if rates go down quite a bit within two years, I'll be able to put a substantial amount of closing cost for the refi. So I'll be doing that whenever rates comes down.

    The reps, Justin and Michael, were really good. In the beginning, it was Justin and he kept up with everything. He was very responsive. With Michael, I didn't speak to him as much, but it was because everything was online. There was also one day where the phone system wasn't working, so I couldn't get in touch with him. It was easier for me to upload everything quickly, but there were a couple of days where the portal would just randomly not work, then an hour later, it'd be fine. So I'm not sure if it was my internet or if it was what it was, because it wasn't a long period of time. Overall though, everything was easy.     I had applied online through Better Mortgage's website for a preapproval, and somebody had reached out the next day and got me the full approval, so we could start looking at houses. The rest was history from there. I kept them updated with any offers I was interested in putting in. Then we finally did put an offer in. It got accepted, and we processed the loan from there. Almost all of our communication was done via the online portal or email, and that worked better for me because during normal business hours, I’m in a lot of mediums, so it's hard for me to communicate via phone. Through email, they were very responsive and things were done in a timely fashion.

    My Realtor wanted me to use a local place, specifically, one of the credit unions locally because it makes things a little bit cleaner and better communication generally. I gave those credit unions a chance, but three of them all told me the same thing that they couldn't even come close to being competitive in regards to the rate and closing costs that Better was offering me.     The representative from Better Mortgage was great. Originally, we had asked to participate in the Amex credit, and it might have just been a miss on his part. They're probably super busy and didn't put it in. They had to do that after we closed on the house. So, it extended the ability to get that credit on our Amex. He had said, “Use your Amex so you have more cash flow.” So, we were putting things on the Amex so that's been fun, but that pushed that out about 8 to 10 weeks, which is okay. Other than that, it's been a pretty good experience. The application process was fairly easy. I will tell others if they want something added in like doing the Amex credit, when they switch to the actual coordinator that they're going to be working with on the day of closing, they should make sure that they indicate that with the closing coordinator, and not with their initial contact.

    I really enjoyed that we worked digitally, where there were communications through the portal. So that I didn't have to go about scheduling calls or take time out of my day to go meet with somebody. It was cool, and everything was pretty transparent. There was one time that I had questions and the team was pretty responsive. But everything in the portal is pretty self-explanatory. I know where to go get things, and then I would upload them onto the website. If there was some sort of error, they just told me what the error was and what was the cause of the delay. So I submitted a note and let them know. Then I heard back through an email type communication. I was really good with that process.

    When I submitted my inquiry to Better Mortgage, a rep reached out and explained to me the process and how that works. He also explained to me about the portal. He qualified me and got me through 10% of the way. Once I got logged in, I was informed through the portal that I had a new rep. There were big indicators when something was new, or where to click or go. The second rep got me about 50% of the way. Then there was a third rep that was the last person who helped me get through the process. But I didn't have the need to want to reach out to have somebody hold my hand and walk me through the process. I was very capable and willing to go through the steps.

    On closing day, we got a mobile notary that came out to us. Better Mortgage scheduled this person to come out. But it was still convenient. When the guy showed up, he had a stack of documents. We didn't have to sign every page but there was a lot of documentation. It would be better if we could use companies like DocuSign. But the guy was really good. He brought a copy for us to keep and then the copy that we signed that he ended up taking with him. I really enjoyed the process to where I would highly recommend Better Mortgage. Also, their rate was super competitive.

    Applying with Better Mortgage was, overall, pretty seamless. Everything was done online mostly through email and text message and I was able to get in touch with anybody when I needed it. But I also was able to get on the phone with them whenever I needed. I just called the general support number and they usually got back to me before the end of the day. From the application to underwriting, it took two months and I was comfortable working with them. But the UI could have been improved as there was inaccurate information on it. At one point they told me to wire money to a lawyer, so I did that. And then, the money had to be wired back to me, so I incurred two charges that they didn't reimburse me for. When I talked to their reps about it, they said they'd talk to their manager and get back to me but they never did. That was about a month ago.

    I proceeded to get loan estimates from Better Mortgage, see what type of interest rates and different benefits they could give me. And as I was shopping around, I didn't think I would end up going with them. Because I'm in the military, so I was planning on using a VA loan which VA gives the best interest rates as well as the lowest percent down that you could possibly go. So, when I was shopping around with Better, it was more just for fun, just checking it out.     I like that pretty much everything is online. The one part that I did not really like is when I was looking for a loan, the loan officers were more or less readily available for phone call, but that quickly changes once you go ahead with them. I was sent to an after sales team where I had to wait around to get in touch with somebody. They had to give me a call back or somebody from offshore answer the calls and then tries to connect with the officer. That experience is quite poor. It's almost like a bait and switch. Better gives an excellent service before signing and then once you sign, they move on to getting other customers and this customer is stuck with little inferior support.

    Other than that, I like that I am a self-service type of person where I can do things by myself. I really like that. I get a notification saying a task is ready, I go in, and I take a look at it as quickly as possible. They nudge as well when people have not looked at it. That helps because it's a pretty busy process buying a home. Sometimes it sends a little too many notifications, but it's a trade-off. Overall, the experience of working with tasks is pretty good. Good thing everything is online so I can save records of documents and everything right away.

    I served as a helping hand for a relative whom struggled with the process. Although a majority of applicants report a favorable process… likely related to a favorable outcome, I find the process confusing, repetitive and extremely difficult to manage. I am pasting excerpts from a review from earlier this year that emulates much of our experience. The worst and unacceptable parts of the “Better Process” is the buyer’s inability to verbally communicate with said advisor for clarifications of redundant requests.

    “The worst mortgage company. First, they are not honest, and they don’t keep their promises. The appraisal guarantee program is flawed. Although the borrower pays for the appraisal, the appraiser will not release it to the buyer until he gets to see the purchase price. Then he ascertains that his value just exceeds the buying price while RE Comps exceed the buying price by 10-25%. An assigned advisor is slow to follow up, you have to keep calling them to keep the process going otherwise you may miss your very time sensitive closing date. They keep asking to upload the same documents over and over again. It’s exhausting to deal with this company. They appear to be inexperienced, and cannot seem to do simple calculations…”

    Quite stressful! They issue closing statements over and over again that are grossly misstated. My guess is that the “fact gathering process” is entrusted to a team that operates with little oversight leading to the gross detriment of the home buyer. These views come from a seasoned business professional that has engaged in countless financing transactions over the course of a 50-year business career. A lender is nothing more than a “supplier of funds” not unlike a lumber yard that might be selected as a buyers’ choice for building materials. Accordingly, recognize that the buyer has chosen Better out of his many choices, and endeavor to make an expedient decision as to whether or not Better desires to partner with said buyer! Sincerely.

    The closing costs were much lower with Better Mortgage, given there's no underwriting fee, so we chose them and the application process was very smooth. The first person I was connected with was very patient in answering all of my questions, which was nice. I was a little bit hesitant to go with an online platform, so it was good to have that personal connection and an actual person to talk to. But I didn't always get an email when I had a task ready, which was a little bit annoying because I didn't realize they were waiting on me for something.

    Also, when I initially got a list of documents, I thought I have until closing to give all of it but I had to give the documents by a certain week. That was a little bit unclear. If I take five days to send them something, then my timeline gets pushed by five. They factored me holding up something. What impact it has on my overall closing timeline would have been helpful to know. Other than that, I would recommend them. I already have been.

    The process of working with Better Mortgage was the worst ever. I started the application with a different company and I switched after talking to Better. The other company does a thing where they would pay for one point of interest for the first year. I talked to Better about this stuff and they said they can do all that stuff. Also, there was an American Express discount they had and I'm an American Express member. Then, I asked them how soon we could close and they said within 20 days. Everything sounded perfect so when I put an offer on the house, I did a 30-day escrow.

    I sent their rep all my information and I didn't hear anything from them. I had to send my information a second time. They mentioned that an employee had quit and they apologized for that. They dropped the ball on my mortgage. I put a notice at my house where I was at so I had to move out of there and I ended up having to get temporary residence for an additional 24 days past the original date of escrow, which ended up costing me $2,400. I feel like they knew that I had the money because they ask what else were all my assets. I got taken advantage of and I was homeless, paying $100 a day.

    Then, my original quote said that it was gonna cost about $10,000 for me to buy down the points because the rates were high but two or three days before escrow, they sent out an adjustment and they charged me $15,000 for that point. They said they gave me a $2,000 credit but that was a credit I would have gotten anyway because it's the deal they have with American Express. And I never got that point that I was supposed to get when I switched from the other company.

    Also, when I would talk to the second group of people I worked with, it was like they were so busy. It was hard to get ahold of people. Every time I called, I talked to somebody out of the country and they would leave me a message for the people in the country. They weren't responsible for anything. I would talk to somebody and they would say that this other person needs to take care of that. So then I’d call the other person and that other person would say the first rep should have talked to me about it. It was a complete and utter mess. I felt like I was talking to inexperienced people. The guy that did everything wasn't licensed in Washington. Any time I had a question specific to Washington, he didn't know the answer. But they had a representative that I never talked to, which was the person that was licensed in Washington.

    My experience was absolutely terrifying to the average Joe. If somebody didn't have the money, it would really affect them hard. They had me in a position where I really couldn't fight them on anything. I had to straight up pay money to fix their issue that they promised me and I ended up not getting anything except for the one thing that I had to physically apply for, which was the American Express thing. They were so happy about it and I was very disappointed. I shared this with the people that I was talking to but nothing was done. It went in one ear and out the other and they blamed it on needing some information that they never ended up needing in the end. It was absolutely ridiculous what they were asking for. They wanted me to prove that Marriott Vacation Club was not an actual mortgage. It's literally in the name. It's Marriott Vacation Club. I would never ever use Better Mortgage again and I'm gonna tell people that.

    I used Better Mortgage to refinance my house in 2021 and it was a really smooth process. I liked the user interface on their website. It let me pick my rate relative to points purchased and see my principal and interest payment without having a bunch of back and forth with the loan agent, which is a huge hassle. If you're trying to see what your options are and don't necessarily have a direction you wanna go, you wanna see what's available to you. Better Mortgage seemed like they've put some money into the technology aspect. In terms of processes such as talking on the phone and trading emails with tons of numbers, rates, and payments copied and pasted into them, they were way better.

    We went with Better Mortgage for a rental property that we purchased because I was familiar with the process. They could close relatively quickly and we were on a time crunch due to situations out of our control. For the most part, they were able to better accommodate me. There was plenty of phone communication. The mortgage processes have gotten more complicated as a result of 2011 and there are a lot of stuff that you have to do and can't do. Stuff gets hung up for whatever reason. On this rental property that we purchased, there is something happening between the title company and Better Mortgage and they couldn't communicate. I had to get involved and that was frustrating.

    Better Mortgage could do a quote or an estimate for how much I could get approved for in three minutes online, which was a big thing. I didn't have to wait and I could just put in my information and find out if I was pre-qualified myself. I was and I moved forward. Also, they outdid my credit union by a ton. They were able to do the closing 14 days sooner than a typical FHA loan, which was really cool. It moved very quickly and I really liked the task dashboard that I had so I could check out all the time and see if there was any other information that they needed. I didn't have to search through emails and voicemails, call people, and go places. I could just do it all right from my computer or my phone and that part was really nice.

    The only thing that was messy is that there are different people for each step of the process and there was no real quarterback. I would just get texts from a random phone number telling me that, "This was so and so from Better Mortgage," and they're taking over. I would go to talk to them and they'd tell me my process has moved on and I need to talk to this person so I'd have to try to hunt that person down. There was Christian who was kind, but never responded to anything that I said ever. There were other times where I just called the 855 number, tell them what I need, and they would route me to whoever it was supposed to be. But the rep I worked with at the very beginning was super attentive and great. Then, in the actual closing process, I was connected with a lady named Bree and she was phenomenal. She was available through text, phone call, and email.

    But at the end, when we were signing our loan papers, we came across who our loan would be sold and everything that I signed said Flagstar Bank on it. I was waiting for the packet to come in the mail and I got something from The Money Source. I called or emailed and they said they don't know where I got the idea that Flagstar was gonna be my bank. They asked if I could send them documentation of that. But I was not gonna go back and forth. If they're telling me The Money Source is it, then that's that. I paid The Money Source but then last week, I got paperwork from Flagstar that they're taking over our loan. There was some kind of fallout or miscommunication there.

But as a whole, they did a very good job of keeping me abreast of what was necessary to close the loan. Even though I had minimal debt compared to my overall net worth, closing out on some of the accounts and trying to get that information to Better Mortgage online was a little challenging. But at the end of the day, I was able to do it. I maybe was a little frustrated because I wasn't used to having to do that in the past.

    There were other lenders who I was working with who were asking similar questions. It's just a matter, at that point, of the process being brick and mortar versus online. It was probably more me not recognizing the challenges and the changes that have occurred since 2008 to the process. But at the end of the day, the loan was within the parameters I wanted to finance the place. It was done in a timely manner and when I went to closing, it was easy-breezy. So, whatever challenges I found during the process, on the back end, when it came time to close, based on me doing a lot of stuff electronically, the closing took a lot less time. So that part was rewarding. At the end of the day, it was a good process.

    The initial setup with Better Mortgage was very easy. The only hiccup was there were some questions, because I had a large sum of money that entered my bank account in the window of their examination, and it's because I had sold my home in Texas. So, for some reason, we couldn't get on the same page of what kind of documentation they needed to be okay with that in underwriting. I kept getting these cryptic messages inside the webpage like they need something and I would send them what I thought they were asking for, and then they would repeat the same message.

    There was a human being who was calling me and helping me along. I eventually emailed him and asked him to talk to underwriting and get back to me in a full formed human generated sentence with what they need. And he sorted that out. He called underwriting and got back to me and told me why they were rejecting what I have sent so far and that they needed to see this specific page. Other than that, everything else was super seamless. The way Better Mortgage could auto import your W-2 off the web and bank statements was awesome because I had to upload very few documents. It could pull almost everything automatically from banking websites and that was so cool.

    The process with Better was the most straightforward process. You go into the site, and it tells you what you still have to do. I like it much better than 30 years ago when I got a mortgage in person and had to do all that stuff. Better's innovation is excellent. I always am cursing at online things because they're doing something dumb. But I don't remember a single thing wrong with Better.

    I was very happy with the process. They don't dirt you around. The rate that I saw on the site when I first went on was the rate that I ended up getting. In mortgage, there are a lot of chances to tack on nonsense fees, but with Better, there was no extra fee or anything added in. There was no surprise anywhere reading through all the fine print. I kept waiting for a gotcha, but there was none. There was one minor hiccup, but in a couple days, it resolved itself. The issue was just having to get stuff to approval, then another phone call, then having to physically deliver more stuff. It was a lot longer than online, coming home every day, clicking on the site and seeing that they need this bill or information for this bank account.

    I loved working with Better Mortgage because everything is systematic. Most of the time, I do not have to talk to anyone. I just open the portal. In terms of uploading the document, everything was crystal clear on the website. The only thing I would have liked to see, that what is happening with the current rate. They have all my information and credit. I have booked for this rate, but currently this rate is going on. I had to create another profile and check. I just wanted to see.

    I just started searching at the time I got the pre-qualified and then got pre-approval. The closing happened in 60 days. The thing is some of the stuff I did not know, and people thought that I should have known that it's like that. For example, the closure was prepared. And I got the automatic email, and my lawyer waited on me to give him that. But Better thought that they have given me that and I was waiting on them. But I did not know that that was the document I have to give to my lawyer. And it took a lot of time.

    Everything was fine in terms of communication. In the initial period, my contact manager was available every time. But later, she became very busy, so some of the time she was not able to pick the call up. But I understand that the company might be short-staffed so I started communicating on email. And at the end, there was some issue with the bank not clearing the loan. My lawyer said, "Until and unless the bank gives me the go ahead, I cannot do anything." And that got delayed. It took 24 hours more to close. If I had delayed further, I would have been penalized. So I, it was a mistake of bank. But for me, it's Better's mistake. So, I just contacted Better. They tried everything and the bank eventually cleared it. All the people were very kind and helpful.

    The online application process with Better Mortgage seemed quick and I was pre-approved immediately for way more than I can afford, which seems weird. It was a little predatory. At first, I had a guy named Tony and he was great, friendly, knowledgeable and accessible. But then, I couldn't get ahold of him. He was supposed to send me something and he didn't. He wasn't getting back to me so I sent a rude message to the Better Mortgage people and they called me immediately.

    The rep apologized and told me that she was just assigned to my account and my previous loan officer was no longer with the company. She said they were gonna have to redo all of the paperwork because it has to have her name on it. Then, she said it was not letting us get set up in the system correctly with her name. So, after I signed everything with her, I had to work with a third person. I had three in a matter of 48 hours and so I had to redo the paperwork twice with each new loan officer's name on it. The application and the underwriting process took maybe five weeks but that’s not necessarily their fault. My seller needed to keep pushing my closing date so we had to keep updating their information.

The only snafu I had during the whole process was when we went to closing. I'm on the East Coast and they're on the West Coast, and we ended up waiting an hour at the title office because they weren't open yet. The nice part is we could do stuff late in the evening because they were still working. My mortgage loan officer, Justin, was amazing. And everybody was super-duper attentive.     I've faced so many issues since the time I applied with Better Mortgage. They have many issues going on with their company. There was never any single point of contact working on my application process. Over the span of the process, I worked with four different individuals. They're not up to speed on my application. Also, I used to struggle a lot to get a hold of them to know the status of my application. Also, they ordered the appraisal late and because of my appraisal getting less, I had a tough time. I had to put down more for the closing cost for which I am not prepared.

    Also, you have to do a wire transfer before 24 hours based on the closing addendum. They will send you the final closing cost document and you have to transfer the amount to the title company before you go to the closing of the house. They gave me the amount and by the time I went to the closing, they changed the document and it was showing a different amount. I have to come back to my home because I cannot close on my house. Also, I cannot withdraw my application because the interest rates were very high by the time my closing date came. So, I have to go with them. Unfortunately, it was not a smooth experience for me with Better Mortgage. I was not satisfied.

    I spent a lot of time googling and researching online, and at the time I was looking at it, Better Mortgage had the smoothest process and best rates and they had pretty good reviews. It was a little dicey because they had some stuff about them online about there'd been a big layoff. It didn't sound like it was handled very well last year, but for the most part, most of the reviews were good. Casey was awesome. I was able to text or email him. He was always really responsive. The communication with Casey was great, but sometimes the stuff we got back from the underwriter was kind of confusing. Casey was able to explain some of that though. The whole process was going really fast, but then I accepted a new job. So, it took a few weeks until I got my first paycheck from the new job, and then we closed it. The delay was on me.     I have recommended Better Mortgage to every single one of our nine children. It is awesome. I was assigned to a loan team, and then they let me know the team members’ names. When you call Better, your name comes up on the computer screen and the person who will answer the phone will try and address an issue. If they are not able to address the issue, they ask you to hold, then they reach out to the team leaders. If Tony is unable to take the call, then Colton will answer. If Colton’s unable to answer, the other guy will answer. If they are not able to answer, within 10 minutes, I have a callback and they have addressed the issue. It's impressive. We've done loans through Wells Fargo. We've done them through a little place out of campus. We've done loans through all kinds of places. We'll stick with Better.

    The whole process took 23 days at the time. They'll have taskbars that come up. There were 45ish tasks there. As you go through and you're filling out all these different little items and gathering all your financial information, they're just confirming it online. Occasionally, the task will hang there for two to three days but because I have dealt with Wells Fargo, I'm like, “Hey, take all the time you want.” I do recognize that as a consumer, those tasks are sitting there because it's hard to find people to hire who can pass the background checks that the federal government requires to deal with my information. So, I'm okay with the tasks being there. It would be good if there was a way for them to be able to say, “Hey, this is a dedicated team, and even with our underwriters, here are your underwriters that are dedicated to your case, and they will respond within two days.”

    If they just would inform the consumer that it may take three days for an answer on something, then that would eliminate a lot of people's anxiety for sure. Other than that, I'm always very satisfied with Better. They’re very honest. It's kind of interesting when you deal with them. When you put in the first initial application and you're approved, they suddenly draw up a list of, “Hey, here you go. Here are five to seven different lenders that it says will take your loan. Here’s what this one will do. Here's what your final closing costs are. Here’s what your interest rate is.” It's very straightforward.

    Better Mortgage reps are equipped to answer all questions so it was nice. I've gone to a couple of banks to try to get a loan and they all turn you down right away and tell you things you gotta get. Even though Better requires many of the same things, they were a lot more willing to work with you than a traditional bank. Elliott, the rep, was very quick to answer questions, even when I texted them. The response was very fast and professional. He was trained well because he knew and if he didn't know, he would ask someone and find out within the same day for me. The process took 35 days. It was from the beginning of July through August 5th. We could have closed earlier, the last week of July, but then I would have to change my homeowner's insurance. I already have homeowner's insurance that started on the 5th, so I didn't want to go through the hassle of changing that. I just continued with that closing date even if I could've closed earlier.

    I tried to go through a credit union because I heard that they might have lower rates. They took so long to get back to me. I went to a mortgage company and the rep was very prompt but their rates were higher. The process with Better Mortgage, on the other hand, was very seamless. I was very surprised. The application was super easy. I liked their website and how it was organized. It lets you know exactly what you need to do and when. The woman I talked to on the phone was the one who initially set me up. She assigned me over to a guy and he wasn't the best communicator. It was really hard to get ahold of him. He went on leave and another guy came in. He was great.

    The rates I got were great too. I had enough cash to put down to lower the rate to something that was doable, given the market right now. I was pleasantly surprised at that. Theirs was a point better than the mortgage company for the same amount of cash down. The only issue I had with Better Mortgage was on the insurance portion. Given the type of loan that they had marked it as when I was trying to get the homeowner's insurance, their insurance guru was so stuck on the type that she wouldn't accept what our insurance company was providing. I knew the previous owner and got her insurance information. We forwarded that to the Better Mortgage person and it took a really long time. Finally, Better Mortgage got in there and worked it out. I was surprised that that was the thing that held everything up the most. Other than that, we closed on time.

    Better Mortgage offered good rates and the mortgage loan expenses were at par with other companies that I got quotes from. They also had program where the for house that I wanted to buy, they would offer cash and buy it first. Then I had a period of time to get my financing nailed down and buy the house back from them. That was important because in this market, in my geographic area, unless you had a cash offer, you weren't going to get the home you wanted. It was because of that that I'm in my dream house. They were on top of everything. I also liked that they had a real estate group, a mortgage group, and a settlement group. It was like a one-stop shop. When I had questions, I could talk to them all, and they could also talk to each other. It made the process better.

    We were purchasing our second home, and the online application with Better Mortgage was not hard at all. Afterwards though, when they were trying to approve me for the loan, they asked a bunch of questions and it was more intense than any other loan company I know. I also applied with two other loan companies and Better Mortgage was a lot more aggressive. Maybe that's because they were online. I ended up picking Better Mortgage because the local mortgage companies have had padded so many fees. I haven’t bought a new home in 30 years, so things have changed on how you buy a home and how you pick a mortgage company. With the rates, it was a good experience and they were more competitive. I also liked the idea that they offered something that the local mortgage companies did not.

    The only thing they needed to know is more about Texas law. Some things they were asking the new home builders to provide, they don't require that in Texas. I had two big pitfalls in wanting some documentation for occupancy and something else. It was a couple of hiccups in there, and some of them caused me stress. I was going back and forth with the home builder and the mortgage company because of what the underwriters wanted, but Better Mortgage worked it out. When those hiccups happened, the loan officer stayed on top of them. He was very thorough and good, and when I had questions, he followed up.

    When we started home shopping, our Realtor pushed us towards a local lender. Once we got to the point where we were a lot closer to finalizing the purchase of our home, we started to shop rates and that was when I reached out to Better. It was hands down better than the local lender we were getting. I picked up the phone and had a conversation with our broker on the Better side to confirm some details. We were able to lock in the rate and move things forward quickly. The process was self-service. It was easy to get access to the information I needed in order to make a decision. I am technology-forward and appreciate being able to have access and transparency to all the information online. I was able to, at any time, see what was going on with my loan application. I would check in once a day and see we have new tasks and I would get those done right away. It was very efficient. It worked great for our needs.

    A lot of the tasks that we got were primarily from underwriting back towards us asking for information. But there were quite a few things that were repetitive, where we had submitted information previously, several times, and we were being asked for it again. In some cases, there was an explanation as to why. But in other cases, there wasn't a good point of contact at that point to tell them we had already done it. A few times, I would reach out to our contact and say we already submitted what they were asking. There was nowhere for me to add a comment along with the files I was submitting so I would have to send an email to the rep with the attachments as well with an explanation. The ability to add some comments to the documents we were submitting would have been helpful and a little bit less of the repetition. But overall, it was a great experience for us. I would recommend Better Mortgage.

    I did some research and Better Mortgage came up as one of the better lenders, but then when I went through it, I wasn't too sure now. I have a pretty clean case and they just kept on pushing stuff out. They gotta extend it. Finally, they tried to make it up, but it was very stressful. I have over 800 credit and a lot of very good financial strength in all my portfolio of finances that I manage, and I don't think they really handled it that well. The loan officer was very good but as a company, I don't know if I would recommend them to other people. They made the process very painful and I wasn't so happy.

    I had another quote and Better Mortgage did a matching on my estimate. Since everything was online, the process was smooth. I always got the status update through the online portal. My rep was supportive. Those questions I've thrown, she found the answers for them. The one thing I didn't like was my original closing date was July 21st and they didn't let me know there was something pending with the title company. They informed me very late. They moved my closing date on their portal, which was not good. They should have informed me the previous week if there were any concerns with the closing date. In that case, I could have talked with the title company and sorted it out. That pushed my closing date to the 25th. I planned my housewarming on the 22nd so it got messed up. Also, I had to extend my apartment lease. I had to pay a week extra for my apartment.

    The process at Better Mortgage was easy. Everything was electronic. It's an easier process than dealing with a traditional loan process. If I uploaded a file and it wasn't what they needed, they rejected it. It had the reasoning why it was not suitable for whatever reason. But if they did not notify you, you have to go on that website and check yourself.

    They also always had a direct line to somebody that I needed and always update it to the person that I needed to contact. They were responsive. If the main person wasn't able, then somebody from their team was normally there to answer. Every single person that I talked to on every team had a direct email I could contact if I had a question and a number. If I had any questions about it, I was able to get answers quickly. The main representative that I had was on the West Coast. She was hours behind me since I'm on the east coast. But even when she wasn't there or I had a question before she got in, somebody from her team was able to help me.

    Overall, it was a great experience with Better Mortgage. I would definitely recommend them to individuals who are comfortable doing everything online. The entire process is online. If you need to speak with your mortgage loan officer, you have to schedule an appointment. To speak by phone, you do that online. You upload all your documents online. I had to download a scanner app. However, at my closing, our Realtor informed me that you have one in your notes on your phone, but it didn't have the ability to be able to scan documents. It can take pictures, but it's just not as easy as being able to upload multiple documents into one file. You have to upload them one by one if you don't have a way to scan documents. If someone's not very tech savvy or doesn't have the ability to use the internet, Better Mortgage really wouldn't be a great fit for them. But I've shared with others that it was a very smooth process and a really great process.

I didn't end up dealing with him too much just because I was moving fast and he was on vacation until a couple of days into the loan process. But he and his partner were fantastic.     Better Mortgage gave me tasks that I needed to do and the information I needed to give. The hardest was part I had been through a divorce. So, some of the information was hard to give because they were looking for information I didn't have. But otherwise, it was easy. I worked with Tyler. Even when he was at home and not at work, he was really helpful and was always available if I had questions. However, some of the communication with the people approving the loan was lacking. On the website, when I had to provide certain information, there wasn't really an option to talk to anyone unless I called Tyler specifically to explain why I could or couldn't find the specific information and that he would have to contact them.

    I did Better Mortgage for my first-time home. The experience was from application to closing was very easy and seamless. The portal was very straightforward and incredibly convenient. It was very easy to move through the process. The only thing was communication was a little harder just because I couldn't get ahold of our direct person. I had multiple people on my account. One of them was very engaged so I could text him anytime, which was great. It's just that he couldn't help with all of the answers. He would reply and would always stay on top of things. But he would have to say, “I have to get back to you and talk to the loan officer.” I knew he would take care of it. My actual loan officer, on the other hand, was a little bit hard to get ahold of.

    Better Mortgage offered a better rate. I ordered my appraisal and the very next day, it was received. Their process couldn't have been easier. I went online. I applied. They came back. They offered me this really cool table that allowed me to pick what rate I wanted, how much I wanted to pay for it, and then the flexibility of changing my mind. I was really impressed.

    I wish I would have went with their title company. I went with the Realtor's title company and it took four weeks to get title work. Based on the appraisal, I feel like Better could have turned it around faster. I looked at the rates one day. I didn't lock in. When I called in and talk to them, they were able to give me a concession of like 600 bucks. I was like, "What? Okay, let's go." I wowed all the way around, and I've told so many people about them.

    Better's reps called right at the beginning. I was worried that docs weren't getting uploaded and everything was there. They had asked a question about why I made more money the year prior. I was like, "No. If you'd look, I've been making more and more money. So something's not uploaded." Other than that, everything was super easy. They answered their phone. They called me back if I left a voicemail. The website was super transparent. I stalked it daily to see if I had new tasks.

    Better's process was fairly seamless. Most of it was online base, which I appreciate because, that way, you get an email saying that you need to upload a document instead of constantly getting separate emails and separate phone calls from a loan officer. I felt that the user interface of it from the online portion of it was a much more preferable way to deal with it. Also, I'm getting a call from somebody at Better, but I'm not getting multiple calls from multiple service providers. I was in a situation where I was having to refinance unexpectedly because of some stuff going on on my end, but as far as what the terms that I got were relative to what was available at the market at the time, I was pleased.

    The online application went well for me. I had my documents in PDF form and if I occasionally had to scan something to get it into a PDF, that was not a problem. When it starts going through underwriting and I sometimes get multiple emails in a day going, "You have a new task. You have a new task. You have a new task," it is what it is. It's just better that it's online rather than somebody constantly calling you. My rep, Cody, was great. Whenever I needed anything, he always responded very quickly. He did do a very good job of telling me, "Okay, here's where you are now. Here's what's coming next. You're gonna get this. You're gonna get that." He was very good at prepping me for what was next in the process.

    The only thing is my cash to close changed about three times in the last couple of days. They're constantly getting new information. It flowed pretty well. My biggest complaint about the process was that while I did not get solicitations from other non-Better entities when I first reached out to the company, after I closed, I got inundated with mail asking me to purchase. I got multiple pieces of mail that said they weren't from Better, but they were given my name by Better. It was for things like insurance and other offers of ancillary products that, if I was interested in, I would have already gotten. I didn't really need 10 pieces of mail in my mailbox the week after I closed.

    I used Better Mortgage before and they let me know what they need better than most others. I had other mortgage brokers who sent me templates. Also, doing everything online makes things easier. I like the experience on their website. It's just easy to understand and follow. The process was good and very straightforward. My rep was always available and our preferred communication was over email. I found him to be pretty responsive.

    There is one thing that Better Mortgage could have done better on. When somebody is in the initial stage of finding the best rate on the market, the ability to give discounts like closing fees should be upfront. That would have helped me get convinced sooner. They did say that they would try to do something at closing but I would have to take their word on it. That could have been something that might have dissuaded me if somebody else had said, “I'm gonna waive off or give you a $500 or $1,000,000 credit on closing," and committed to that upfront.

    The process was a little bit lengthy and the communication was not good. My immediate loan officer was very difficult to get. So that was problematic because sometimes email doesn't work. If you talk directly, then it needs to be resolved very quickly and if you do those things through email, it would take time to reply. Even in the closing, it was very difficult to get the loan officer. When I called, it was going to customer support and every time they explain all the things, they'll relay to them again to corresponding officers. So it's really a headache.

    The online application was okay and the rep was knowledgeable. But the problem is when you are sending some queries, it takes time to filter. Better Mortgage's system should be more customer-oriented. It was very hectic for me time to time when I worked with their team. The process should be to relieve the pressure off the customer instead of give more pressure to the customer. Sometimes, you have to directly communicate with the builder.

    Getting the mortgage through Better was seamless. Towards the end, it was a little bumpy but other than that, everything was all good. It will be really good if the lender consultant can interact better with the title office because I had to do a lot of back and forth between Better Mortgage and my attorney towards the closing. I was primarily talking to somebody over text messages and everything was seamless. It's just that when it was the closing time, they were not able to provide all the documents and the closing statement properly to the title company.

    I've done multiple conventional loans with Better Mortgage. They're good at what they do. The user interface is easy to follow. The requests are usually clear-cut. If you have any questions, you press a button and then you ask somebody there and somebody chats with you. In the past, it was a little easier to reach people over the phone for them to call you back. I noticed that this last time was a little more difficult but normally if they cannot answer you over the phone, they'll set up a call for somebody to call you.

    Application is about 30 minutes. It's super quick. You fill everything out online and then they'll do a soft pull on your credit, which then they'll give you tons of options to buy for the interest rates. I like the availability of the information. A lender will normally tell you, "Well, rates are here." However, you can't see that and if it fluctuates, you have to be constantly asking them for updates. Better gives you that number online and as it fluctuates, you can be online and you'll see the change.

    Better is super good at communication. They call and text you as soon as you apply. When you apply, they call you like a minute after you're done with your application. They'll text you, too. They're super good, but the follow-up on the paperwork failed a little bit this time around. They were unsatisfied with the support that I was providing to them. They would just tell me they were unsatisfied online, and then I would submit something else, and then they were still unsatisfied. I felt that if they clearly see a lack of communication because I'm giving them the wrong stuff, they should give me a call and let me know what's going on. That way we don't have to be back and forth.

    Another thing is that I think they would excel if they put a face to the name of whoever is helping. They could easily hop on a video call with me to introduce themselves. We're just talking to a computer. It would be super helpful if they could introduce someone on a video call so then I know that I'm talking to an actual human being. Everybody is doing that now.

    My rate and terms were decent. The only thing that kind of held us up at the very end was the closing process. They didn't completely have all of their I's dotted and T's crossed. We had to go back to the closing attorney three times because Better didn't have it all together or wouldn't release funding for certain things not signed. Plus, they put the wrong name on one of the forms so we had to go back and re-sign the entire package.

    Then, I had to re-sign because the wrong lender was on the paperwork, even though it was a company that's affiliated with Better. The underwriting process was a bit tedious and I answered the same questions 15 times. I also had to prove that certain monies were not used towards the downpayment of the property 10 different times. That was annoying. They were detail-oriented about the wrong details. Other than that, they still got the loan closed. It was just more time and headache. They also gave their apologies and expressed their concern. They even offered a $100 Amazon gift card towards some of the difficulties that we ran into at closing. So they tried to make it better.

    Obtaining my mortgage was a pretty easy process. I filled out the application online and they reached out for any follow-up documentation that they needed. It was very simple from beginning to end. They have this task system set up where they'll put a task in my portfolio and send me an email telling me that I have a new task. I'd go in and see what that new task is and I meet whatever those requirements are, whether it's more documents or whatever. Then, once we found a place, we had a pretty quick close. We wanted a 30-day close and we met that far. Also, I worked with Vivian and she was always there. She was always available for follow-up questions. In the online task process, the verbiage sometimes could be challenging in terms of trying to determine what exactly is it that they are looking for but I could always pick up the phone and call her and get guidance.

    I got a 30-year fixed mortgage through Better Mortgage. I submitted my application and from there, it went through the discovery. I was applying to get a pre-approval letter. So, I produced just enough information to get a pre-approval. Once we closed on a house and went into escrow, then a bunch more documentation was required. Overall, it was a smooth process until it wasn't. During the time that we were closing the loan, the rep that we had initially was laid off, and then we were given to his manager, and then we were assigned to another rep. Some of those handoffs were a little rough. One of the things that was almost a deal-breaker was that they were responsible for the appraisal. The first appraiser didn't want to do it and it fell through the cracks after that.

    I resorted to their portal chat where I said, "Hey." Then, after a few things blew up, I had email addresses that I get emailed to. I didn't feel like it was really good direct communication. I had gone through another competitive company like that and their process was intended to be very similar and from the very beginning until the end, I had an assigned representative that I had text contact, email contact, and phone number contact. I had somebody that I could say, "Hey, things are going sideways. Can you look into this?"

    At the beginning, it was good working with Better Mortgage. I did a refi with them a couple years ago for my old house, so I used them to buy a new house. It worked great for the most part but they had lost a lot of people so they started getting busy and it was hard to get ahold of someone. Then, whenever you call the main line, you couldn't get ahold of your loan advisor person. It was a little bit stressful for a while. Doing the refi again, I might not use them because it's easier to go to a local office and tell them to take care of it. I know way too much about mortgage stuff now, such as preparing documents because you have to do it all yourself. It tells you what to submit and if you don't mind doing it, it’s alright. But it's not like you can just go to the local office and tell them to take care of my documents for me and then it goes smoothly. It takes a lot more work on your end to do it.

    Whenever I spoke to someone, they were good. I used their online chat a lot and they usually get back so fast. The people were there 24 hours a day. Because of the employee squeeze they had though, the loan officers were running ragged, so sometimes, it was tough to tell them to email me and my agent and give us an update. It took a long time because if they had 20 mortgages closing this week, they don't care about mine that closes in three weeks. They're not even worried about it. But when it came down to the week of closing, because we were lining up six different transactions and one title company, three houses, purchases and sales, like a whole bunch of people buying and selling houses, in order to line them up on the same day, they were good.

    Better Mortgage did things faster than all the other mortgage companies. The loan advisor I had at the beginning, for some reason, left the company midway through and they had to shift, and then they lost a bunch of people. I was stressed out because of the random occurrences and I happened to leave right in the middle of my transaction. That's not anyone's fault.

    Better Mortgage could have done better, like honest appraisals and they shouldn't have gotten rid of so many people. The people I was talking to were swamped and it was an indication of their company probably releasing too many people. If they're super busy, you're not gonna get as many updates. When it's going well, they don't send out too many updates. Normally, you'll only hear if something goes wrong. So, some people are nervous about these big transactions. But there's nothing going on so they do not even email you. There's no reason to. Maybe they can implement a weekly update to make people relax a little bit.

Their communication was great. The only complaint that I have is they had a big laying off of a bunch of people and just as I was about at the finish line, they pulled the girl from North Carolina that I was working with and gave me somebody in California. The transition was smooth, but I would've preferred to stay put 'cause that was a little jarring to be pulled in the middle of this process.

I was working with somebody at Better Mortgage for the majority of the time, but then a week away from my closing, they laid her off, and then somebody new had to come in, and then there were some delays because their paperwork wasn't ready and my closing got pushed out by two weeks.     I liked the portal of Better Mortgage which was very nice and easy to manage. I learned to keep up with the portal. It would let me know if something was due and send me notifications. It was easy to know where I was and what was being asked of me. I especially liked the people that I was assigned to. They kept me informed and their communication is really good. I had a team so if I call this certain person back, someone else may answer but that person would totally know my profile and what was going on with me.

    The only thing about this experience was I didn't know right off the bat that I was immediately going to be sold. After closing, I received a coupon in the mail saying, “Use this for your first payment.” The payment was going to the title company and not Better Mortgage. When I called to indicate that I couldn't get into that portal, they said, "Wells Fargo owns your thing.” In the whole scheme of things, that was really not something that I was told about.     The reps at Better Mortgage were on top of everything. I’m really happy with the process. Every time that they asked for a piece of information, I did my best to get it to them as soon as possible. They wanted two statements. I said, “I cannot provide a second statement because I've only had the account for a month.” They said, "Just provide the second statement since it should be available before closing.” That was the only thing that I was worried about.

    I had two points of contact. One person initially was Megan. Part of me getting on board with Better was through her, then my main point of contact was Katrina. Throughout the whole process, I felt there was a team of people that was looking over my application because I would upload something and then I would be notified within a couple of minutes if there was anything wrong with the document, and through the website task lists. I would email Katrina, and then she would email me back. I was also able to schedule an appointment on a certain day and a certain time to talk with her, which was convenient.

    That morning, I was able to get a 2.64 with all the points added. No one else can beat the rate since the rate was changing that day. I asked her, “If I go with you guys, can you honor this rate even though I hadn’t locked it in?” She said yes. Throughout the whole process, my rate stayed at the higher rate, but she assured me we'd be able to make the change towards the end. They were able to honor the rate and that pretty much was my number one priority, getting the lowest rate.

    I kind of went through Better Mortgage's application process twice. I had an offer on a house and we got almost to the end. Then the buyers wouldn't put something in writing about replacing the roof. I had to walk away from that sale, but in that very first application, I was super impressed. It was super easy. Better's systems work so there wasn't a lot that I had to send in. I was expecting to have to send in a lot more documentation but their software did everything. I just had to verify a few things. It was super helpful. I like the task aspect of things. The notifications were good.

    I'm still in the market again for a house. Then I had to redo a few things. This time, there was an extra. I had to take some kind of a course for home buying. So, that was a little bit different. I felt like that was a little bit weird because I had just gone through the process a couple of months before. But overall, I was very impressed by the application process and the ease of it.

    I worked with a couple of different sets of representatives. I had one set of people that I was working with through all the stuff in November. Then I started to work with some of them the second time around, but it felt like there were a lot more hands touching it the second time around right before I bought this house. Better was also going through some restructuring during that timeframe from what I could read in the media. It was a little bit weird on that end because then once I was done with all my loan documents and everything was set, I felt like there wasn't a good transition to my closing agents with Better. Because everything had been all documented and through email and very formal and suddenly, I started getting phone calls. I felt like the guy didn't introduce himself well. It even lists what your preferences are, and I felt like he wasn't abiding by that. I would get random phone calls from him.

    I had done all of my due diligence getting to closing and I felt like I didn't need anything. I don't understand why he was checking in on me so frequently. At the end, he was like, "It's my understanding that all the tasks are completed. There's nothing else for me-- unless you need something from me.” “I'm not sure why you're calling me so frequently. Like is everything okay? Do you need something else?” “Oh, no, I was just calling to see if you needed anything from us.” We were off by 10 cents. It was a very weird set of circumstances because I called since we were off 10 cents. That's what I was told. I got an email from the title company that said, "It's off 10 cents." Better had not sent in the updated disclosure.

    I was the first signing of the day. I was upset that when I called and I asked for the person, they were like, "Oh, he's out today." At the same time, my Realtor called and they were like, "Oh, he's not at his desk, but he's available." I didn't appreciate that and it was like a lot of back and forth. We were on the phone with Better for almost an hour and a half between the two of us to get that squared away. I was like, “My loan is already prefunded. I provided everything. We're literally sitting here waiting for Better to get this just squared away.” That was a super weird way to end the transaction because everything has been so flawless and seamless, and they had great communication but when it came to closing at that transition point, it was very awkward. I would still recommend Better. That last piece was just super weird. It did not match up at all to the level of customer service that I'd gotten all the way throughout in both transactions.

    The worst mortgage company, First, they are not honest, and they don’t keep their promises. They say that they have an appraisal guarantee program if you use their Better real estate agent, and then if the appraisal comes back lower than the asking price they will ask you to pay the difference. This appraisal guarantee program is fake. If you get an advisor he/she never calls. They never follow up, you have to keep calling them to keep the process going otherwise you miss your closing date. They keep asking to upload the same documents over and over again. It’s exhausting to deal with this company. They are unexperienced, they can’t do simple calculations, they just add all numbers together without any consideration for other factors. The worst part is they close your account and then delete your application, and deny your loan without even call and letting you know.

    Better Mortgage came out on top with the rates which we could afford as well as discounts. They didn’t have any kind of origination fees. So, that was beneficial for us to make a decision. There were two loan officers. One of them did the initial. Later on, the loan was transferred to an actual officer who oversaw it until disbursement. The entire process was very smooth. They kept me appraised with what step I’m on, as well as what documents are required. They kept emailing me. It was very easy to work with them. So much better than any other company which I was in contact with.

    I liked the rate table. When I tried to look for other places, if they provided a rate table, that was not the case. I was given just one flat out rate based on the amount of down payment I would make. And if I made more down payment, the rate was down. But how much down payment I had to make for me to accept the rate was not clear. So when Better Mortgage gave me that kind of table, as well as lowered the rate percentage, they had discounts, which was unheard of, that I liked. And that lowered our closing cost. So, that was very helpful. The rates were good, better than competitors in the entire market. So, it was a no-brainer.

    Better Mortgage's doing business is good, what they’re providing is good, as well as how they’re competing with other market vendors like Rocket Mortgage and all sorts who are also online. If they keep doing the same way, they’re gonna do good in this space. Because brick-and-mortar is very 2010. They need to improve on to online lenders, which don’t have these origination fees, which should not be paid by the consumer. Just because you have your business, it’s your fault to manage that kind of cost. You should not tack it on to consumer to pay for your salary.

    That’s the kind of thing which I don’t see in Better Mortgage, and that makes their cost very low. So, as long as they’re managing that, I like the process. They recently pushed our loan to the other bank, FirstBank, who will manage the loan amount and payments moving forward. That was very quick as well. The process was good, the people are nice. And the cost is affordable to get a house in this economy.

    Throughout the process, three of my loan officers were laid off and I got bounced around a bit. And that's just what's going on in the industry nowadays. Everyone lays off people. So, it's like a bag and save, where if you do your own mortgage, you save some money. So, I was very happy with the rate, being as I know the job and I know what I’m doing, it was easy for me to get the mortgage done. But there was a lack of confidence on a lot of loan officers' end. It was them not knowing the answers right away. Lack of experience. And more of probably dealing with a call center instead of a personal touch, the experienced person, like myself, that I’ve been doing for 15 years. I had to guide them on what they need to tell the underwriter.

    There was discomfort that my loan would end up screwed up somehow, or I would lose my rate and be repriced where the current market was because of some random technically. Their rates beat my rate, but it’s like dealing with a bunch of people to get to the actual answers. We had a 30-day close. We made sure we had all our ducks in a row, and there were no hiccups or problems. But that's because my file was super easy. I had a very low debt to income. I was one of those slam dunk easy loans. There was a bit of incompetence on some of my initial reps. But all those people are laid off. Better still owes me 550 bucks for my appraisal. My last officer, Tiffany, said it would be refunded back right after closing, but it has been a month now. But she was good and followed up in a timely manner.

    There were a couple of things that got mixed up. My real estate agent was told one night that if we completed a certain task that day, we would close on a specific date. Better Mortgage turned around the next day and said something completely different. They said we had to push the closing out by a week. It was okay but not ideal.     Better Mortgage's rates were very competitive and they also offered that $2,000 American Express statement credit. I give their process a 10 of 10 score. I had done some research with other mortgage companies, and the ease of application, with everything being electronic, was fantastic. I could go in at any time and look at the status of our application. I would get email alerts letting me know that there was a new task for me to complete and I could go online and complete that task. It made it so easy for me and helped to expedite the completion of the application and the closing of our deal. I loved that online system.

    The rep was super on the phone. He was very responsive. He apparently had team members who he would delegate some things to or who would contact me on his behalf. There seemed to be communication amongst his team. If he wasn't readily available, somebody else was to get back to me. It's a well-oiled machine. I don't know how they did it, but they are a great systems process thinker and I appreciated it. It made the end user have a great experience. The rate was higher than what we were paying before, but we did a cashout so we still have a great rate considering how rates have been over the last 30 years. We're happy with the rate that we have. We were very happy to get a cashout too.

    Initially Better was great to work with. They communicated well and was very fast. It wasn't till after the loan was funded the headache began. They do not fund loans. Which makes it so you have to deal with someone else. The money source was problem one. They kept asking for proof of insurance then threatening you with their insurance. This happened multiple times until they sold the loan. Fast forward a year later and I apply for a loan. Come to find out They hadn't removed their name from the loan. Contacted Better for a letter of reconveyance. A week later I get it. Bank kicks it back. Wrong assessor number. Now it's urgent loan has been extended. I convey the urgency as rates have gone up. A week later still no letter and unable to get loan. Contact money source. It was not conveyed to them that this was urgent. Will cost me an additional .25% interest because of this.

    The reps were all helpful, and I love the personal interaction with the people at Better. However, Better Mortgage made too many mistakes. They have pretty good automation of their process. That said, their algorithm failed in a couple of areas and it cost me about 40 basis points on the rate between Friday and Monday when I could reach somebody, which was very unfortunate. The reps knew about the software quirk. When I tried to correct it on that Friday before locking on Monday, everyone said, “Oh, no. That doesn't work.” By the time I finally got my loan officer, she said, “Oh, yeah. There is a problem. And I'll help you work through it.” She was very friendly, but interest rates change daily. They could document and see that I did what I said I was trying to do.

    Better Mortgage gave me some compensatory reduction in closing costs to offset part of rate. But at closing, they forgot to write the check so I had to find that they did not make the adjustment to the closing costs in the HUD settlement document and figure out that I was still owed money. I am probably one in 100 people closing a mortgage who would have figured that out.

    It was a good experience with Better Mortgage. The only issue was the title company. It was slow to pay off my home equity loan. I reached out to Better but no one got back to me. I ended up having to make an extra payment and paying some extra interest. But the person that handled my file was top-notch. He got back to me instantly practically with any questions I had. He would text me if I had a question and get back to me. He was very proactive. I was also proactive in answering any questions in the document and it has really worked well together cohesively. The process was simple for me online. Every time they wanted something, I updated it and found that an easy process to go through. We did it very quickly.

    The home appraisal company had the incorrect square footage of my home. My home should have appraised higher. They didn't include one room. I was given an option to dispute it but it wasn't worth my time to do it because my loan was still going to be approved if it was higher or not. It didn't affect my loan. I was still paying $500 for the home appraisal but it should have been accurate. But I would have no hesitation recommending Better.

    We were planning to go with a different company, but Better Mortgage was able to match a competitive rate. We talked with some of our family members about the rates we got and the amounts that were offered, and it was favorable all around. How fast the process would go into effect was another reason that we decided to go with them. They could close it within a month. They also partner with American Express and we were told that there would be a $2,000 statement credit on our Amex account after we closed.

I got some other quotations, and Better Mortgage's was still good. They dedicated a representative, so when you try to find them, they always can be found. Their process was professional.     It went great with Better Mortgage. Everybody was helpful and Michael communicated really quick. Any issues I had, Michael took care of them. Some parts of the process were repetitive. I was putting my husband's income but they would ask if I had income. There were also a couple of things that didn't seem to connect. But being that Michael was so responsive, it was a non-issue. Had he not been so responsive, I would have maybe been a little frustrated and dropped off.

    There were some parts where I was apprehensive, like the terms changed early on when I added my husband. When they did his credit score or added his income, I’m not sure how it changed but it went against us, which seems odd. That was disappointing. It was a change that wasn't obvious and I wish that area would have been more transparent. We agreed to certain terms then when I was going through checking it, the terms had changed. But the terms were still better than what we would have gotten elsewhere. We're happy with the rate and I feel I’m in a much better position moving forward with our loan. I've already referred Better Mortgage to other people because they offer a better service.

    Better Mortgage was willing to meet and beat all the competition. Our originator, Jason, was really amazing. He was a great advocate for us. However, the review and application process was very tough. They've really scrutinized everything in my husband's and my background, even though we have perfect credit, perfect income, and perfect job history. We have played by all the rules throughout all of our lives. Yet, they put us through so much scrutiny. I thought we were going to be denied a loan. I was really stressed, but it went through and everything was okay. It ended up being really good. So, it was a good experience. The only thing is I'm still waiting to find out who our mortgage servicer is, and our payment is due April 1st and today's March 17th.

    There were things like they told me that I was a claims processor for 22.50 for this company and that they needed the W2. I kept saying to them, “That's not me. And I don't care if it came up in my background search, that is not me. Here's my employer. I obviously can't work two places full-time.” My HR director was going to get involved to say, “She's here 40 hours a week.” I had to convince them over and over and I wrote a letter, too. That was one pain point. They were asking me for things. I was saying, “I don't have this. I can't give you that.” I kept telling them we had an escrow account. I would send them all of the information from the escrow account, and they would reject it and say it was insufficient even though it was coming directly from my PennyMac portal.

    Everything was coming from my PennyMac portal. They were saying, “This is insufficient. We can’t accept it. We need a different escrow. We need different evidence.” I was like, “There's no other evidence. This is it.” Then they wouldn't build us an escrow account. They did everything outside. They did the taxes and the homeowners insurance outside of the loan. I was like, “Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. I told you this was going to be rolled into an escrow account.” “Well, you need to show us you have an escrow account now.” I kept showing them. So, getting them to accept the documents was another difficult thing. I explained to them my husband was a consultant with Cigna. Then Cigna bought his contract and hired him fulltime, which was why there were two different W2s. I had to keep saying it's the same company, same job, same everything. They were asking for the same information over and over despite my explanations.

    The application process with Better Mortgage was easy. The fellow that I got hooked up with, an associate who kept facilitating the process, was excellent. The email communications were great. Their portal was awesome as far as uploading documents. It was really a fantastic experience. I was happy with the rates. If I shopped around a little, I might have found a better rate and a little better on closing fees but for the investment of my time and energy and the improvement from the rate I had to begin with, I was pretty happy.

    Better's customer service was fantastic. They work as a team. There was a main guy named Patrick and the other fellow who I had much more communication with and he made sure I was staying on track. He noticed something hadn't been completed. They were phenomenal. I was a little concerned when Patrick was going on vacation but they were like, "No. It won't delay anything. Everything is good." I was going out of town and I wanted to make sure I close before I was going. I can't say enough good things about them. I absolutely would recommend them if I had someone in my life looking to do a refi.

    Better Mortgage had the best rates in some regards. I started trying to refinance with TD and I was not loving that experience. So, I switched up and stuck with Better. It was the best option that I came across. Nobody in the lending industry is set up for union employees. I'm a union construction worker, and every time I tried to get a loan, regardless of how much money I make annually, I always have a problem. I get laid off, and then I get rehired, and then I get laid off, and I get rehired. So, the process is slowed down, not by Better Mortgage who was as helpful as they could be, but by the regulatory commission that makes it very difficult for union members to get a loan.

    While I was happy with the overall outcome, because I've done this before, I do get annoyed with the idea that nobody wants to give me a loan when I'm laid off, even though I can prove that I have an average annual salary that well exceeds what they would need to prove that I was not a high-risk mortgage. I had great experiences with everyone that I spoke to at Better Mortgage. I was quite pleased with it. They were quite responsive and did as much as they could under the issues of being a union employee. Otherwise, my loan probably would have been a few weeks faster but that was not Better Mortgage's fault.

    I just had a few issues with the platform itself. We had a couple of points locked up along the way, but Taylor, the gentleman I dealt with, was very responsive with attempting to remedy those. I was happy with the way they dealt with it, but I think in the future, that's something that Better Mortgage needs to take care of. I don't know if it was because I did most of my application on a mobile device, but I would suspect that if that was the problem, they should be prepared for that because that’s what a lot of people are doing nowadays.

    Better Mortgage did a good job. It was very fast. It was completed within 10 to 15 days, so it was good. It was well fixed. When I tied up with the Amex offer, the rate was good. There was an Amex promo along with Better. They gave 2,000. If that is not there, it's not a very competitive price. Because United Wholesale also gave us some better discount than this. But the application was very easy to see the rates. The discount, the lender credits, the rate of interest, and the rates according to the score, it gives a list of choices. That is very good. So that I can choose whether 3.6, 3.5, based on whatever the lender credit is. Other lenders, we have to call them, check each and everything. It's a time-consuming process. This comes up. So, from an application perspective, it is very good.

    Better Mortgage's website for the application process was fine. Having the online process was helpful and speeded things up. The mortgage person was responsive and good up to a certain point. They kind of walked away once the closing was scheduled. They're still available, but this all happened during the holidays. So, it was also because the person was going to be on vacation for the holidays. It was pretty much like, "All right, your closing's scheduled. Call me if you need me. See you later. Thanks for your business." But that part worked out fine. I felt like I got a good rate and terms. It was exactly what I wanted. I wanted to lower my payment by getting into a lower interest rate and I succeeded at that. They were responsive, too.

    One of the things I don't like about these fully e-agency companies is sometimes it's a bit confusing as to who you're doing business with. I'm an IT person so I don't have some fear or problem with using computers, but sometimes, when you're doing business on such an important business transaction, you want clarity in who you're dealing with. When you get the closing paperwork, it's Westcore e-agency but that's actually a subsidiary of Better. There are multiple different names and addresses.

    Because you're doing business with Better Mortgage, but then you agree at some point through the process to either use their other services they could possibly sell you or not. You have that option. I ended up choosing to use their title company because the closing ended up falling during the holidays when I wasn't going to be at my primary residence. I wanted to be down here at the house I was refinancing. I ended up with their title company. I was fine with Better Mortgage, but I was not so fine with the title company. They ended up making a couple of mistakes. In the end, it wasn't a big deal. We've got that straightened out.

    Better Mortgage has an interesting business model. They did not have a 1% loan origination fee, which saved me $2,500, and they did everything internal. Also, everything was online, neat, and orderly. The only thing they messed up on was it took longer than expected. The loan started on a certain date, but I didn't get my money till eight days later because I didn't answer a question. They just sent an email and they need to be better communicators with that. I was a little miffed about the whole thing but it was fine for me because I was not in a hurry. Other than that, the application and underwriting process was quick and easy.
