Capital One Savors Card is a complete SCAM and FRAUD. One their website there are two versions of the same card which may seem like two different cards, one is Capital One Savor Excellent credit and other Capital One Savor Good credit. Both the cards look identical. I applied for a Capital One Savor Excellent credit for promotional offer of $200 bonus after spending $500 in first 3 months. After application I got an approval instantly and was notified the card would be delivered in mail 4-5 business days. I received the card, started spending. Never received bonus. After calling customer care for follow up, they said the system automatically qualified you for Capital One Savor Good credit.
After asking why would they not let customers know what every customer qualifies you for, the agent and the manager did not have any answer. Although they are two different cards, however their system qualifies you automatically for the one you did not intend to apply and moreover they do not let you know clearly whether you got qualified for the Capital One Savor Excellent credit or Capital One Savor Good credit. It does not clearly mention on the letter that comes along with the card in mail. This is complete SCAM and FRADULENT of not letting customers know what they qualify for and automatically qualifying them for something they did not intend to apply.

I would not recommend this credit card to anyone. I was a good customer for many years despite having a high interest rate. In the past 12 months or so alone I have paid almost $4K in interest. Granted, we travel a lot and use the card as such. That is not the issue, that was our choice. Issue starts with their policies, when the feds started lowing interest rates I called to negotiate a better rate, was flat out told "we don't do that" , fine again this was our choice to use them. So my alternative was to go with a different credit card company as my credit is in great standing I could get better APR. I did, and used the new account to pay off the balance in order to close.
Unfortunately I did not pay off the balance in time to not accrue interest, so on top of paying off over 12K in balance I paid additional $300 in interest and closed the account. NOW they are charging me another interest charge of $90.00 because it seems the payoff amount ALWAYS includes the next cycles interest charge. Buyer beware, ALWAYS read the fine print because that's where Capital One will rob you. The "robots" that answer the customer "service" lines are of no help. All they will tell you steer you towards is paying off the amount. You would think they get a commission the way they just repeat "all you need to do is pay off the amount."

I had a terrible experience with Capital One. I opened a credit card with them and, when a problem arose, their customer service was terrible. They made me wait more than two months without solving anything, which shows their lack of efficiency and respect for their customers. In addition, the treatment of the account managers left much to be desired: arrogant and unhelpful. In the end, I got tired of incompetence and decided to close my account. I don't recommend this bank at all.

My wife is terminally ill and was the principal user of our Capital One Credit Card. Since I will not need the card after her death, I called to cancel. Even though I have full power of attorney for her financial affairs, they refused to cancel the credit card unless she talked to them. Unfortunately, she cannot talk. Therefore, they refused to cancel the credit card. I guess our account will be never be closed since they did not give me any way to work around this. They were not at all considerate of the fact that my wife is dying.

I was trying to purchase time-sensitive tickets to the Olympics. My card was denied because it was a large amount from another country. I called and explained the situation & had it reinstated. Tried again to purchase the tickets & was denied again. I called again and had to take a pic of my driver's license & a selfie & it was reinstated & I was told it would be fine to try again. I tried again to purchase the tickets, which was quite a process each time, and it was denied again for potential fraud. I called again. Now they wanted proof of residency plus the license again!! I closed the account. It's good to watch for fraud but this was an unbearable overkill.

I would strongly advise any business owner to avoid the Capital One business credit card application process. I submitted all requested documentation promptly and in good faith, yet my application has been stuck in limbo for an unreasonably long time. Every time I call, representatives are unable to tell me what, if anything, is missing from my application. Worse yet, they refuse to connect me to any department that could actually clarify what the issue is.
I’ve made multiple calls, only to be met with the same vague, unhelpful responses—it’s like talking to a brick wall. There’s no transparency, no accountability, and absolutely no sense of urgency to resolve anything. If you’re looking for a smooth, efficient process to secure a business credit card, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I received their card and charged a couple of transactions. I then signed on to my account and tried to transfer the few points I had accumulated to my Sky Miles account. It asked for my phone number to send the second-tier security code to, (why they could not get it from my profile I do not know) and I got an error message listing several possibilities of why it failed. NO other site that needs to send me a code has had this problem. The error was the account the phone is in was not in my name. It is in my wife's. I called to see what the problem was and they blamed Xfinity for having rules that stopped this. That is a flat out lie. I opened the account the first part of January of 2025 and close it on 2/3/2025. Their "rules" prevented me from using their card. Terrible, terrible service. I have enough credit to get whatever I want at any time or the money to pay it off as I buy it. Never again will I do anything with Capital One. You shouldn't either.

I have 5 accounts with Capital One. They usually are pretty good with credit limits. If I buy a car at the dealership it is no trouble, if I try applying for an auto loan or refinance online they want too many documents. My biggest complaint is their reporting to the credit bureaus. I paid about $1500 on 2 of my cards a few days ago yet today they reported on 1 card. And that report showed like $50 more debt. In October I paid off a 17k auto loan and it took over 2 months to show paid.

I have been a Capital One customer for 30 years and I never had a dispute before. I asked Capital One to assist me with a chargeback (my first one ever), and I received the worst service. After having failed to get a response by the vendor, I asked Capital One for assistance. They kept asking for the same documentation over and over and repeatedly denied my claim without good reason. I don't make a habit of doing this and expected better loyalty as a long-time customer. The amount was small, but this is not about the money, it's about the principal. Is it worth it to lose a good-standing account over something like this? I'm very disappointed and I would be exploring other options.

I was a Capital One credit card holder for about a decade, charged literally hundreds of thousands of dollars with no problem, paid all my charges, and got good service and cash back rewards. Then I had an improper charge by a merchant which I disputed. Capital One never investigated my dispute, did not accept my statement of what happened, and then ruled in the merchant's favor. It did not even make an effort to verify what I did to try to correct the overcharge with the merchant. I am dropping Capital One. I am a good customer, pay on time and never had one dispute in ten years and generated a lot of income for this bank. Not a good bank that values its customers.

There was a fraudulent charge on my credit card for $256.35, which I reported immediately, from a company called The Beauty Sandwich in Burbank, California. A couple of days later, I received a package from this company and contacted Capital One to report this. I was told to contact the company, but they do not have a valid phone number. I reached out to the company to return the unopened package that I did not order and was told via email that they do not accept returns.
Capital One says I am responsible for the charge since I received this still unopened package, and I must prove I did not order it by providing evidence. I asked what kind of evidence, but they will not tell me what to provide or how to prove it. They did confirm that the email used to order this was not one of the three I have used and would not give me the email used or the ISP where the order was placed and refuse to contact my ISP. I have no idea how someone is supposed to prove a negative or provide evidence when you don't even know what the evidence is supposed to be. I know I am going to end up paying this bill, and I currently charge around $20,000-$30,000 a year on this card and have had it for 20 years. I will be obtaining another card from a different company, and Capital One will no longer be receiving a percentage every time I use this card.

I tried to pay my bill with the Los Angles Department of Water and Power (DWP). To facilitate this payment, I paid off the balance on my Capital One Savor Card. Capital One denied the transaction, then restricted my account so I I have) available credit. I called customer service and no one was able to explain why this had happened. I was told I needed to wait 7-10 business days for someone to contact me. I then received a letter asking me to call "Customer Fraud Prevention." At this point, I discovered that my other two Capital One credit card accounts (which had nothing to do with the transaction at issue) had also been restricted.
The person who answered the phone and the person who claimed the call had been "escalated" to but had no more authority than the first one (her name is supposedly Gia), both told me my word that the transaction is legit is not good enough. They demanded I end them a copy of my DWP bill to prove I owe the amount I was trying to pay. They could not point me to a provision in the cardholder agreement that authorizes Capital One to delve into my private affairs before making a payment I want to make with my available credit. I was trying to use the card to make the payment so as to improve my credit. It was not worth dealing with Capital One.

I contacted customer service to request a reversal, explaining that this was a one-time issue due to the new card usage and that I would have cleared the balance if I had been aware of the setup. Unfortunately, my request was declined, and I was informed there was nothing they could offer. Despite my long-standing loyalty and clean record, Capital One chose not to accommodate me. If $1,000 is easy-come, easy-go for you, skip this review. Capital One's customer service is terrible. I had a dispute regarding a $1,000 charge at Walmart. I spent countless hours trying to get Walmart to honor their stated terms, but it was futile. My last recourse was to dispute the charge, which I did. Capital One took Walmart's word that my sale was legitimate and charged me back after initially crediting me. There was no communication from them about this. They just charged me $1,000 without requesting any information or verification from me. I had to discover this on my own when I called them about the issue. They provided a link for me to submit documentation, which I used extensively. I spent hours crafting documents from emails, self-notes about calls to Walmart and the content of these conversations, photos requested by Walmart, and screen captures of the product page showing their stated terms. Hours upon hours.
After submitting everything, I was informed that it would not be resolved until two months later. I called about two weeks after submitting all the documents and was told the dispute was still ongoing, and that Walmart had up to two months to respond. In the meantime, I was advised to just hang loose. So I called today, the designated day to find out if my dispute had been resolved in my favor. What did I find out? That it was resolved in my favor two months ago, shortly after I submitted all those documents. WHAT!? Why wasn't I notified at that time?...No clue. I asked for an email or a letter by postal mail so that I could have it for my records; I don't trust this won't come back to haunt me after my experience with them. I DO NOT TRUST THEM.
The clincher? THEY SAID THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ANY DOCUMENTATION - EMAIL OR LETTER - SAYING THAT MY DISPUTE WAS RESOLVED...IN MY FAVOR. They simply can't do it. WHAT!!??...That's the most whacked-out thing I've heard in a looooooong time. I spent HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS of my valuable time either on the phone with them, on the phone with Walmart, and/or making notes and documentation about all this. Do not put yourself at the mercy of Capital One.

Capital one's next move was to rule in favor of the vendor. It's honestly baffling, and the photo evidence is attached below, how you can take all of this information in and still rule in favor of the vendor. Seriously, you guys need to do WAY better. I completed the requirement, asked about my bonus, then you said I didn't qualify, and you gave me a card without the bonus... Meanwhile my credit score is about 830-840 and sometimes 850. I see there is a class action lawsuit for exactly this and see on Facebook you did the same to many other people. I immediately closed 2 Cap one cards. I redirected my recurring charges on my third Cap one card and will close it ASAP.
By not honoring your promotion, you probably made $20 from my $500 worth of charges. However, you will not get any more charges from me. Over the past 10 years I charged about $20,000 per year on my capital one cards giving both you and me a healthy cash back. It's over. Due to your lying and bait and switch stunt, I will never do business with Capital One again. I am also posting on Facebook and recommending and recruiting for another class action lawsuit. It is only through email, so if you miss that email and it passes midnight on the day it was due, there is a $40 charge they impose on a monthly basis. They are unwilling to work with you on this matter. They only send the email 5-6 days before the due date. The next notification you receive is to inform you that your payment is overdue, and you have been charged—that's all.
Other companies do a far superior job by notifying you the day before or on the due date. Additionally, if you opt for cashback, you need to be aware of the fine print. There are exorbitant interest charges on cashback and until your full balance is paid, even if not all of it is cashback, interest is charged as though it were. These people are similar to racketeers. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. There are far superior options available than Capital One.

I have been with Capital One for 10 years! They were one of my first credit card I have opened up. They are the only credit card company that does NOTHING for their customers. Stay far away from them. If you're looking for a credit card, I would suggest Chase, Amazon Prime or Citi. Every time I have called Capital One customer service line; they are never helpful. They have no empathy. It sounds like an AI Robot more than a human being. I have paid my payments on time for 9 years and this year I was set back a couple months without a job from moving states. Capital One will NOT waive the late fees. After 3 months of a $40 late fee, I finally was able to get caught up with my new job. I had removed an old account back in October from Capital One on the app. I had made 3 payments after that with my new account. I was relieved I finally was not going to get hit with a late fee for January. My payment is on the 8th, and I paid it on the 7th.
Capital One pulled the payment from my old account which I have proof I removed and hadn't paid using that account for 3 months. I called 3 times when I noticed the payment had not been taken out of my account. They said I would not get a late fee it was 2 days after my due date, and I had first processed on the 7th. They charged with a late fee anyway and still did nothing for me. After 10 years being with them, I am transferring my balance. I tried so hard to catch up on payments and they couldn't waive a late fee for their mistake? So disappointed. So much so I am closing that account.

I gave 1 star because I’m guessing it wouldn’t allow me to give zero stars. I recently signed up for a BJ One MasterCard & I also had a Walmart MasterCard. While Capital One is great with auto financing, when it comes to credit cards or debit cards they have a horrible track record not only for customer service with a lot of people that seem to be outsourced calling centers in another country, they lack the knowledge on finance, credits or debits & ask for your complete identification just to transfer you to another person asking the same information not to mention the automated service badgers you for what is your information & reason for calling. I ordered a TV 12/18 for a gift on 12/25/24, BJ advertised 2-day shipping. It was available locally at 4 BJ warehouses but they decided to ship from Washington DC to NY.
No curb service because it’s too heavy for their employees. Free delivery was suggested. I cancelled since the delivery couldn’t be scheduled until 12/30 & arriving whenever they could get after 12/30/24 no date could be given. I was told I couldn’t get my refund until the item arrived Back at their warehouses. So considering the item was stuck in Ohio and never even made it to New York. I figured it would take the same amount of time to turn around, it arrived January 10, 2025 to the warehouse & I was given a pending credit to my BJ’s One MasterCard on Jan 11, 2025.
The credit is on hold now for another 20 days because Capital One can’t seem to reconcile credits & debits. The same with the Walmart card which is now nonexistent & my Walmart Card is now restricted. Also, the AIT Worldwide shipping company they used refused to process the return & kept texting & emailing me every 12hrs as late as 1/6/2025 asking me to schedule a delivery when I canceled 12/23/24 at 2 pm.

This company isn't worth your time. This company isn't worth your time. I've been a customer for 10 years in both auto and credit. I'm thankful I didn't get a mortgage through them. My wife also has become a loyal customer because of it. I had in mind to build an advantage in credit purchases by being an exemplary loyal customer. This company never increased my credit limits, gave me a fair offer or followed through when I expected it. We got well over a dozen preapproved auto offers basically promising up to 100000 between my wife and I for a car. I applied for a used vehicle. Everyone else said yes. They said no. Not a dollar. This is far from the first time but it's going to be the last. The customer service when I called in was as I totally expected...worse than useless.
On the credit card side, as I did not experience it in my auto experience, the payment system is flawed and biased so that Capital makes sure they get their money at your expense even when it means you have to pay twice and they only report once. They don't update your balance when this happens so you have a choice to either pay it again now or to a debt collector later on after your credit bombs. Customer service for this... worse than useless. Date of experience: January 11, 2025.

They impose hidden fees and later claim they are referenced in clauses that either do not exist or are misleadingly vague. The lack of transparency and disregard for consumer rights is unacceptable. Their customer service is unhelpful at best, offering no solutions and often making the situation worse. If you’re considering applying for a Capital One credit card, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. Jean was incredibly impolite and displayed poor customer service skills, refusing to provide her last name for accountability purposes.
The lack of professionalism and unwillingness to work with customers on reasonable requests like prorating fees made the experience frustrating. Two weeks later, I had suffered complaints because of auto-payment refusals to my "vendors" (aka it's a personal card, so cable, cellphone, Netflix, SiriusXM, the garbage service, the local gym...) I had been moving everything over to AMEX. I finally called CapitalOne and they said they had no record of my asking for a replacement. But they did freeze my card, including my auto-pays.
This caused a world of problems. They finally sent me a card. By then, I'd moved 95% of my bills over to AMEX. I filed a complaint that I had been scammed on the web by a company, I never received any products from that company. They had me send in documentation - putting me in the defensive position of proving I got nothing. That's hard. I lost. I appealed, pointed out that AMEX also was part of this transaction (I split it up on two cards, I was suspicious of the deal). AMEX got my money back. CapitalOne ruled in favor of the scammer. I'm out $1,000. I appealed, sent a copy of AMEX's decision, CapitalOne still ruled in favor of the scammer. Then this past week happened. I was making purchases for Christmas at a large retailer in town. The purchase was declined. Usually Capital One will send me a text asking me if I just made a purchase. This time no text, so I called customer service. The agent texted me a code that I repeated to him on the phone. He lifted the restriction and said that the purchase should now go through. After hanging up I took my receipt back to the cash register to pay and my card was declined for a second time.
Upon calling Capital One customer service/Fraud department I asked to speak to a manager. Once connected I was informed that in order for my account to become unfrozen and reactivated, I would need to send a copy of my ID/Drivers license via a link that they would email me, and it would take 1 to 10 business days for my documents to be reviewed. I am my Mother's POA. She has had a Capital One credit card for over 5 years with no issues. At the end of November, she received a letter stating she needed to verify her birth date by early December or her account would be suspended and closed a month later. I called Customer Service and the rep could not find any notice or indication that info was missing. I was told to disregard the notice. But sure enough, in December Mom's account was suspended.
I called again figuring it was a simple process to confirm a birth date. Was I mistaken. The first rep could not solve the issue and passed me to a specialist. That specialist stated that in order to confirm the birthdate she needed to verify identity through a cell phone account. Mom is 101 and does not have a registered cell phone. Then she said we could send in a copy of her State ID, but that has expired. Then I was passed to an super-expert who said she could only go through the same process. Keep in mind Mom stated her SS# to the reps.
Not wanting to lose the credit card, we called back later and eventually spoke to a fraud investigator. Same result. Without a registered cell phone, we have to provide a valid State-issued ID. A birth certificate is not sufficient. Now in order to maintain the account I have to take 101-year-old Mom to the DMV to get an ID, and hope the ID arrives by early January so I can electronically send it to Capital One. Apparently, the only way for Capital One to confirm a birthdate on their system for an active customer is to verify identity through a cell phone account or unexpired ID. I honestly had been pretty satisfied with my Capital One credit card for the decade that I've had it besides the ridiculous interest rate. but in September I received an email saying that I haven't made my payment and I should schedule one in the few days remaining but I knew that I mailed a check. so I logged in to the web portal to check the status and it showed that my mail payment was processing (it said they received it on the 13th and my due date is the 17th). Turns out they decided to hold that payment and charge me a late fee on the 17th and then post the payment on the 18th. I didn't have time to call them at the time but a few days later I logged back in and saw that the payment date was updated to the 13th but the late fee was charged to my account on the 17th still.
I called customer service and they kept telling me that my late fee was reversed on the 18th but absolutely no documentation showed that the late fee was reversed. Downloading an updated statement now shows that there is no fees and no credits (besides charges and payments) but the transactions online still shows that late fee and no reversal. I asked customer service why the late fee was still showing up months later and they said because the online portal documents everything even if it didn't make it to the statement -- this is logical except using that same logic then the late fee reversal should also be documented in the same manner but it isn't. Eventually the customer service agent started blaming my browser which is an incredible statement because, if true, that would mean that my browser is showing every single transaction perfectly for months and just taking it upon itself to not display one single transaction.
When I brought this up he admitted that it is likely an issue with their system and that he will recommend that they make improvements. This is a financial services company and tracking transactions is something that they'll "work on"? I'm very concerned that they are either intentionally manipulating this system to charge fees hoping that customers won't notice or they just don't have a system that can be trusted with keeping proper track of my account.

I'm speaking of hardly any shoulder with eighteen wheeler after eighteen wheeler flying directly past me, only a few feet away from me stranded inside my vehicle, whooshing right by me, only a couple of feet away at an average speed of 85 miles per hour.
Earlier in the day I made a mobile check deposit in the amount of $1000, into my 360 checking account. Upon speaking to Capital One and various representatives over the phone, explaining to them my very dangerous and very emergent situation, Capital One took the following position: Capital One apologized regarding the dangerous scenario I was in, but basically wished me well, hoping I wasn't a party who was the victim of a fatal vehicle accident.
I explained to Capital One that I'm aware the request to make available a small percentage of the funds from that mobile deposit in the amount of $1000 is not a standard practice and I would not normally be requesting this authorization under normal circumstances. But I advised Capital One that I was hoping I could get escalated to an individual within their organization who had the ability to help me. I even asked them if they had other options they could explore to help me rather than my request to have only $50 be accessible to me from the $1000 mobile deposit, as this wad the only funds I had available to me at that moment.
They basically said, "Sorry, we can't assist you... hope you don't die!" Which, in my opinion, was a pretty sad position for a multimillion dollar organization to take regarding this scenario one of their long-standing customers was in. Therefore, I want to make publicly available to individuals online, the knowledge that Capital One has no regard for the safety and life of their customers. For over ten years, we have had a CapOne credit card. To help manage recurring payments and shield that card number from fraud, we have three numbers for the account. One in my wife’s name and two in my name. One of the card numbers in my name is used exclusively for recurring payments. The other for daily use. This way if the daily use card is compromised it doesn’t affect any of my recurring payments. Recently, and without notifying us, the secondary number (the daily use card) in my name was cancelled. I found out when I tried to use the card and it was declined.
When I spoke to CapOne they told me that they no longer allow two numbers for the same name. For “security” reasons. Mind you, when years ago I told Cap One why I wanted the third number and how I planned to use it the CapOne person commented what a clever idea. Now they want me to use the virtual card solution which requires either a PC or a Mac (I pretty much exclusively use mobile devices these days) and a limited selection of browsers (none of which I use) with their “Eno” extension installed. I am limited in the number of virtual cards, there is no way to track things by the virtual number forcing me to rely on physical or electronic receipts to return something.
So I am forced to have a Mac or PC and forced to use browsers I would otherwise not use for privacy reasons. All with limited and complex functionality. I am now looking at other credit cards that will allow me to continue my simple method to separate daily usage from recurring payments. And who will not force me to use HW and SW I would not otherwise use.

I have been with Capital One for over three years! At 12:30 AM on a Saturday, Capital One decided to lock my card due to potential fraud. They didn't text me, call me, or anything. They just locked my card while I was out with friends. Not only was I unable to use my card, but I was also embarrassed. I called first thing Sunday morning to explain that the transaction was made by me. They still refused to unlock my card because they stated they needed to speak directly to the banks linked to the account.
It's Sunday and the banks aren't even open! So now I have to go all of today and into tomorrow morning with no card because these people decided to lock my card even after I told them that the transactions were mine. How absolutely ridiculous; essentially, Capital One is saying they do not trust their customers. I told them the accounts were mine, they said they still needed to speak to the bank. So, they don't trust me, even though I've been using the same bank accounts for this card for three years! Do not use Capital One ever!
Secondly, I've been with them for three years and they don't even offer credit increases past 500 dollars. I have a 735 credit score, make 110k a year, and have no debt besides a car payment. Yet they never want to increase my credit. My fiancée told me they were a terrible company when we got together years back. But I had no idea of the level of disrespect they have for their customers. Absolutely pathetic company! Do not use this company ever.

Like many others, I have reached my limit with Capital One. Someone attempted to open a credit card using my personal information, which I promptly reported after receiving an alert from my credit monitoring service. Despite my efforts, after 3.5 hours and speaking with five different representatives, I had to give up. Weeks later, I received a letter from Capital One requesting "supporting documentation" for the fraudulent credit card application, referencing an *Application ID* provided by Capital One. Determined to resolve the issue, I called again, armed with this reference. However, after being transferred between eight people and spending an additional three hours on the phone, I gave up once more.
I have since decided to close my account and move on. It is shocking that a company can operate with such a level of inefficiency, where eight out of eight employees failed to grasp or address a clear fraud attempt. Instead of taking meaningful action, each representative simply passed me along with the same refrain: "That's not my department; let me transfer you." I was never given a direct contact number or a clear path to resolution—just an endless cycle of transfers. In total, I spent over 7.5 hours without any progress—no retraction of the fraudulent credit card application, no resolution, and no acknowledgment of the seriousness of the issue. This experience made it clear that the company either lacks the ability or the willingness to prioritize customer security and support.

Two years later, yesterday I was returning an item at a mall. When opening my Capital One statement on my iPad to show the receipt I couldn’t because I had taken with me my iPad instead of my flip-flop phone with me. The reason was that the receipt had been sent to me to my email address.
I was trying to get my receipt but Capital One was sending a verification code to my phone. All my credit cards ALWAYS give me an option to receive my verification code by email or by phone! Again this company DOES NOT give you that option! Even if I discussed this matter with them 2 years ago. Still the company today says that they only use phone. Well what about the customer's needs? I now will be traveling to Europe for a month, I don’t take my flip phone with me. How will I be able to pay the bills? I ultimately canceled the card. If a person is approved for a specific line of credit that should not be adjusted especially with a good customer who pays bills on time, in full, never had a payment returned for any reason. Banks are who get customers in trouble financially. They force you to use credit. They don’t care. I just closed my two Capital One credit card accounts due to poor customer service today. Apparently I made a valid transaction several weeks ago when buying new cell service. I was declined (no reason given). Apparently it was flagged as fraud in my account. No notification was sent to me to fix. I attempted to use my card this morning and it was blocked due to the fraud. All this is fine. Then I called the customer service line to attempt to fix the card. They told me they needed to verify my identity. I gave them the cell phone of the account to send a text to verify. They told me the system would not allow that number to be used.
I asked them if they could use the mobile app verification system. They told me the system would not allow them to use the mobile verification. I asked for a supervisor. They told me there was no supervisor on shift for another hour. All of these are unacceptable. They told me the only method of verification was for me to go to an open branch (closest one is 55 miles away) and show an associate my ID or send them a picture of my ID. I was in my vehicle trying to get gas using the card so I was unable to take a picture of my ID for verification. Since I was treated this way, I have closed two accounts I had with them today.

Capital One Bank Credit Card has been very unfair to me. I never missed a payment in all the time I had their card and paid off and closed my account on June 28. On July 3rd they took 133 dollars out of my account without my knowledge or consent, bouncing my account. When I contacted them I was told that two of the merchants had not sent in their bills and so I had the additional charges. I told them they bounced my account and they refunded the money back to my account July 19th. So I assumed the error had been corrected and we were even.
September 26th, 3 months after I had closed and settled my account (I thought) I get a dozen calls from Capital One in just a few days and when I answered there was no response so finally I got ahold of them and they said I owed the 133 plus interest plus late fees plus the annual membership fee prorated. I asked them why and they said I had not made any payments since June. Trying to explain that I had no account or access to my old account went nowhere. They insisted I owed the money and better pay it before it was reported to my credit record and affect my credit score.
No matter how I TRIED TO REASON WITH THEM THEY KEPT ASKING ME IF I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A PAYMENT ON THE OVERDUE ACCOUNT! Worst customer service in the history of the universe. They waited three months to let me know the error they had corrected when they withdrew from my account without my knowledge or consent was not any error at all but my fault!

Capital One has been our go-to for some bank accounts and credit cards for the last 20 years. We have not had a credit card fraud claim in 20+ years and when we needed them to help, they failed terribly. We recently created a claim and somehow they changed the amount of the claim (I sent a screenshot of their online form showing the correct amount of the claim), and when I called they created an "exception case" for the remainder of their incorrect amount.
And apparently, sending the screenshot of the correct amount of the claim did nothing, and when Capital One claims communicated with the company who failed to refund over $500 of our returned merchandise, the claims person concluded "we had already been refunded for the amount of the claim" even though we clearly showed we had already deducted the amount the company had previously refunded from our claim. We have hours and hours into trying to get our funds back for returned merchandise, and sent all requested documents, plus more, for clarification. This is exhausting and the disorganization and/or fraudulent actions of the company continue due to Capital One's claims incompetence.

Updated on 10/23/2024: I have three credit cards, my primary checking account and primary savings account with Cap One. I started a new business and applied for a business checking account. I was immediately denied with no explanation. I was sure I would receive another email detailing why it was declined but never did receive anything else. I went to Chase Bank and immediately opened the account with no issue. About two weeks later, I received the claims check for hail damage to my home. The check was made out to me and my wife and the mortgage company. My wife and I bank separately. We took the check to the mortgage company and they endorsed it, my wife endorsed it and I endorsed it. I uploaded it to Cap One and went about my business.
Later I received an email that said "The check doesn't have a signature or isn't properly endorsed." When I called I was initially told that everyone on the check had to be on the account or it couldn't be accepted. I was sure this person just wasn't familiar with the process and asked to speak with someone more familiar with the process. Previously, she had to find out why it couldn't be accepted, I wasn't rude or mean to her. She got someone else on the phone who said both me and my wife had to be on the same account. These things have been very disappointing when you are trying to get things done and suddenly you run into these types of issues. The 2nd person said that since they are online banking and not brick and mortar, they aren't able to do certain things.
I responded by telling him that, "I am not needing to take any cash out, take all of the time you need to clear the check." He said they still can't do it with me alone. Again I deposited it into my Chase checking account and was told they would hold it up to 10 days. That's fine with me and the roofing company. I have a high yield savings account with Cap One and will look for alternatives as well as the checking account.
Original Review: I am very sad to say that Capital One really let me down this weekend. I have my personal checking, savings and 3 credit card accounts with them. I have referred several friends to them over the years. Last week I started a new business and went online to Capital One to open a business checking account. After gathering all of the information, I completed my application and was promptly told that it wasn't going to happen. I was shocked! No explanation. They said, we know you don't want to hear this but we can't open an account for you. That's it. No one will give you any reason for the decision. I will be searching for another bank to transfer my savings dollars and personal checking. A simple explanation would have sufficed, but I can't think of any reason for a denial. It was just rude.

What a frustrating experience! Unfortunately, this was just the beginning. When I called, I was told they didn’t have my phone number on file, even though I had provided it when applying for the card, and it was also listed in my online account. They said I needed to add my phone number before activating the card and they need to verify my identity as the first step. To do so, I was asked to send my photo ID and proof of residence (any statement with my name and address) via email. I complied.
After a few days, I received a call stating that the back of my ID wasn’t clear and that my mortgage statement couldn’t be used as proof of residence. Despite not having my phone number, they managed to call me—how ridiculous! I was then instructed to send a bank statement. I emailed a clear image of the back of my ID and a bank statement. A few days later, I received another call, this time requesting a credit card statement instead. But I had been told to send a bank statement just a few days earlier! Easily one of the top 10 customer service experiences I've ever had, top 5 within the last 10 yr. I was forced into a Capital One credit card through my charge account with Kohl's being partnered with them. I already had a prior issues with Kohl's that I was attempting to sort *before* CapitalOne officially took over their accounts, and was given a number to call once my bill reflected correct charges (After returns balanced out). I did so, and it transferred me to CapitalOne's "customer service". I had the misfortune of speaking with an extremely rude and snarky individual, even after explaining way a charge on my account was wrong, who then insisted we "go through the charges and deductions together".
The incorrect charge? .59$. Fifty-nine CENTS. He was arguing with me over fifty-nine CENTS that was incorrectly charged and was refusing to remove it from my account and told me I would have to go to the store to sort out the problem - all the while telling me there was "maybe a charge I forgot about" or "forgot to return something". If a company is willing to argue with a customer over returning them .59$ it's absolutely pathetic and the worst kind of customer "service" there is. I wasn't asking for 59$, I was asking for barely half a dollar's worth returned to me.
I already planned to no longer shop with Kohl's after this incident, not that I shopped there every couple of years. But this entire argument over returning .59$ to me seals the deal. If I'm able to I'm closing my account through CapitalOne, if not I'm at least cutting up the card. The due date was on 8/9 and I paid in full on 8/13. Over the course of 5 days that incurred 57 dollars interest charge on an annual interest rate of 29.9%. I called them asking for a reason why the interest charge being that high but no one could answer my question. Without any clarification, I decided that okay I would just let it go and make sure that I don’t delay my payment next time. So I accepted the ridiculous amount of 57 dollars interest charge and took it as lesson learned. Then it was what happened in the next month that frustrated me so much that I decide to close my credit card account with Capital One. It was another 40 dollars interest charge occurred on an amount of 1220 dollars that was still running as a continuation of my August late payment. I have only 1000 dollars left to pay for my car now and Capital One is planning to repossessed my car after doing it the first time and I am need this car. They send me an email about payment plan and long-term payment but only to tell me to give them more money.
Plus they have add interest on my account by themselves so that what I owe them keep increasing. This is really a scam bank and all this loan they pretend to give you. I have pay the amount from 23000 to 1000 and now they have added interest instead of 1 dollars and almost nothing, I see the interest keep increasing instead of decreasing. This is not a bank to deal with honestly, all they want is that you keep paying them money and they manipulate the interest because they will repossess your car even if it was left one dollars in the account. Community banks, there are other banks you can work with.
Do not sign anything with this bank, they miscalculate what I owe them and never want to adjust the fees. Do not take refinancing with this bank for anything except it is a 3 % percent interest if not they will manipulate the fees in the system and call you to overwhelm you about payment. I am in a condition where I need the car for treatment and lost my main income and they send me an email about options for payment plans. I spoke to the representative and he tell me I do not qualify I have to answer questions and then say yes that I should give them money that same day if not I can not qualify for a reduction in interest and later payment plan.
Now he sent my car to be repossessed for the second time though the amount left is 1000 dollars and they will receive a 700 payment from Hyundai for a refund check, the dealer even said they can contact them if they need to but all they want to do is repossession. Pay your car in cash or find a way to have no interest or really low interest from this bank because they will repossess your car without giving you a time to even recover or even find a another job. Buy cars in cash or find other banks with loans interest, these cars notes from this bank and the way they treated you is not worth it.

They are one of the worst banks to ever bank with! Their customer service isn’t any help because they don’t review any of the information you submit to them! So they let “system” do their reviews and it’s definitely one of the slowest systems. They put your checks on hold with no access to your funds.. They don’t even make a small deposit like most banks so you have some funds. Then the mangers also aren’t any help. Their best trait is tell their customers no. I Will be closing my account after they release my funds. Don’t bank with them for any reason!!!

To say they have Customer Service is a joke. When I tried to file a complaint with them, they had 1,001 excuses. When I disproved every excuse they came up with, they said there were other factors. This company is a joke. They aren’t helpful. They said I had a bad payment history even though my credit report shows ‘Excellent’ in that category. So disappointed. Wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Only do business with Capital One if it's your only option. I have had 2 auto loans and have 2 credit cards with them. The auto loans were OK but I was never late and paid them off early. The credit cards are horrible. Just found out that using a Capital One credit card with Venmo or PayPal is the same as a cash advance at an ATM. So they charge you a 10.00 cash advance fee plus a cash advance percentage fee of the total card balance every month there is a balance on the credit card. So you get charged interest twice. NEVER again for me.

They locked me out of my card so I can't use it. Asked me to verify identity which I did. They still won't allow me access to my card. I can't pay my due payment now which will affect my credit score and my home. I don't know how a credit card company is allowed to sabotage my life without any accountability. I filed to the CFB and they don't even answer. It's crazy how criminal this company is.

I have been pretty happy with this card until now. I accidentally made my statement payment twice. I realized the mistake when the overdrafts came rolling in from my bank account. I immediately called Capital One to request a refund of the extra payment. I was told that "unfortunately" they were unable to refund the money. (I don't believe it actually had anything to do with 'fortune'.)

If I could give them a minus score I would I think this has been the worst credit card experience I've ever encountered. They are an extremely greedy company they don't really care about their customers the way that they pretend to. The interest rate is always outrageous and I don't feel that's fair being that I've had the card for 10 years and my credit has gone significantly higher since When I first got the card.
I have been extremely loyal to this company for the last 10 years and this is not what I would have expected to get from them in return. I found myself in a very vulnerable situation and reached out to ask for a little of assistance in removing the late fee because they are $40 they declined to help me in reversing the fee and of course the interest rate is not going down no time soon. There's never any offers. I'm literally at the point now where I'm just so motivated to pay this thing off and be done with it because I cannot stand credit card debt anyways and it's a trap in my opinion and they know it. That's why they take advantage of customers who are in desperate situations and rely on them for that reason.
Do yourself a favor just figure another way to pay for whatever it is that you have to pay for. The only good reason to have a credit card is for traveling purposes other than that it's not necessary. If anything you're going to get yourself in a bunch of mess that you might not be able to get out of, and put yourself in unnecessary debt.

Be aware of foreign transactions with Capital One! They lie about not charging for incoming wire transfers. We brought euros to dollars to capital one account and their exchange rate was 0.26 points lower than actual exchange for that entire week. They held and took from us 2.5% of what we wired from italy. It's a scam. Their manager had the audacity to call to say that capital one in new orleans determined the exchange rate. Euro to dollar was at 1.099-1.10 and capital one exchange was 1.071! Multiply that by thousand and see how much they kept!

The worst card company ever, I had a Hudson Bay card with them and when they ended the contract with The Bay they closed my account. I never received statements and never knew when a payment was due or how much I owed. Then every few months someone would called from random numbers around Ontario to tell me I missed a payment. Then they would report a missed payment on my credit. Very poor customer service. Be aware of this company.

I went to the vet and gave them the card to use. It was declined. Called customer service which could not explain the problem and attempted to run the card 7 more times. Supervisor was no help at all. Blew me off. Tech department supervisor was last hope. They attempted to run the card several more time to the point it canceled all future purchases. My dog's life was on the line. I was stressed about the surgery and now have the problem that I thought was figured out a week before surgery. This was a life and death situation and they couldn't help. They blamed the system. Wouldn't recommend them to worst enemy. Then apply for other credit was difficult because the credit hit to credit report. Thank God care credit came through.

I filed a claim today because on August 5th a text was sent asking if a charge from Hertz my husband and he was said no. The response was that the card was canceled, and no more transactions would be processed. Then yesterday my account only had $900, and they let a fraudulent close to 4k charge go through taking my account negative almost three thousand. This was Capital One's fault because this charge should have never gone through. NEVER! I can never take my account more than $100 negative so why for the life of me would you allow a charge that took it almost 3k in the negative is beyond me. I am now late on my rent because your account executives messed up.
When I spoke to your representative to place the claim, they said there were several charges prior to Aug 23rd from Hertz for different amounts that were not processed because the card was blocked, and a new card should have been issued which it never was. Since this is Capital One's fault, I should not have to wait 10 days to get my money back. Therefore, I have switched my direct deposit, and no money will go into this account until you fix this problem. I honestly believe I should be compensated for this screw up especially since now I am facing a possible eviction due to the incompetence.
I have gone through this with Capital One before and they issued an immediate credit for the amount as a courtesy due to the mess up on your end. If I have to wait two weeks for my money to be returned, I will no longer be banking with Capital One. I have a child and should not be in this situation where the roof over her head may be taken because of a bank mistake. I don't understand how the hell I can never overdraw my account more than a hundred dollars and you let this charge go through. I would appreciate if someone would fix this immediately. The consumer should not have to pay for the mistakes of your employees.

Then they offer me a Quicksilver card with no annual fee and $300 cash back. They kept sending me the offer so I stupidly applied (first cc application in over seven years). Guess what? They reject me with a credit score of 825! So they basically lowered my credit score once because I closed an account they had the audacity to lower my limit on, and then second time because they did a credit search and rejected me. Now I have been charged $200 in fees in which they are only trying to, part of their mistake for interest and not help with any of the other payment issues that were created. Applied and received a credit card from Capital One. Used it twice and paid it off. I attempted to use it a couple weeks later only to look like an idiot when it was declined. Called them and was informed it was marked for Fraud and wanted to verify my identity. I asked why I was never contacted and they advised that they don’t contact their customers. So I had to waste 3 hours of my time, money in gas and look like an idiot when it was declined, find this out and call them.
They wanted a copy of my driver's license, social card and a piece of mail with my address. I asked if I could take these items to a Capital One in person due to I don’t like sending this info over the internet and was told no. The only way is through the internet. I sent the info and had to call back several days later to find out they didn’t accept my D.L. and mail. Resubmitted the info and again had to call a week later because they didn’t reach out. Found out they won’t accept my mortgage piece of mail and will only accept a utility bill (which none of the utilities are in my name) or bank statement which I don’t have.
So was told if I couldn’t provide that, the account will stay restricted. I then told them to go ahead and cancel the card and was told they couldn’t do that until my identity was verified. (Pretty bad when your DL, social security card, 2 types of mail and one of those being the mortgage bill to my residence is not enough). So I cut up my card card and told them it could stay restricted. I will never use Capital One for any services. They are a horrible horrible business to do business with. Never again.

Paid on time always $400-$1300 per month. I warned them after never being late and always paying far above the minimum payment for 6 years this was a fair request. They outright refused. I got card with Citbank at 19.9% with 12 months no interest on purchase and 18 months no interest on balance transfers. I balance transferred and ditched Capital One after 6 years. On August 12 - I purchased a Cashier's check online to buy a horse for my daughter. I set the check up to be delivered directly to the people I am purchasing the horse from as they work from home and will be there to sign for the check. I missed the cut off for the check to be shipped Monday. Tuesday, August 13 I get an email with the tracking number and confirmation the check was mailed.
Wednesday August 14, at approximately 8 am I missed a call from Capital One. I was at work and unable to answer immediately. I called back as soon as I was able to find that all my accounts were restricted and a stop payment was placed on the cashier's check (this check was on FedEx truck and was delivered while I was talking to Capital One.)
Talking to multiple personnel gave me multiple answers. First the money was to be returned to my account by end of Business day on the 14th. Then the check was good. The people took the check to their bank and Capital One verified the check as good, but it is still flagged in the computer system of their bank as having a stop payment so their bank refused to take the check. Talked to a few more people at Capital One and now I have to mail the check back. This was done. Check was received on 8/19/24 by Capital One. At this point, no one can tell me when my money is going to be back in my account. I am unable to pay for the legitimate purchase I am trying to make and NO ONE can give me an answer.
