Insane, even in the fraud department I can't get a rep that speaks and or comprehends English. Dealing with the most simplest of things is a complete nightmare with this company. They just told me that if the car rental company that robbed me, emails me every 14 days, there is nothing Capital One will do to help me get back the money that was robbed from me. No joke, I have this phone call recorded.

I had the worse customer experience with them. I didnt receive my credit card in over a month. I tried to get a new one but they made it so difficult to get a new one. They said I would need to verify myself with uploaded documents that would take another 7-10 business day. It was very frustration knowing they could have verifed me by any other way but choose not to.

Did little or nothing to assist when my account was hacked. Their system did not pick up multiple Oklahoma charges even though I live in CA and have never been to OK. Clearly hacked by an employee as the debit card fraudulently used was in my desk drawer and had NEVER been used by me. Told me to wait 10 days to have $1000 theft reviewed.

My credit is impeccable. Never been late. I was a great customer to Capital One, pity that we end on such a bad note. Liars! They said they would refund me the 95$ fee when I canceled the card the same month the fee was due. They did NOT. They lied. When I called the guy said, "Oh well. Nothing we can do."

I order a Quick Silver credit card from Capital One that offered a $200 sign up bonus after I spent $500 in 3 months. I met their requirement and never received the $200. I called them 5 times and received incorrect information after wasting about 45 minutes per call. I finally talked to a supervisor (so she said) and I was told that I didn’t qualify for the $200 and she couldn’t tell me why. I was never notified before I received the card that I didn’t qualify. Do not fall for Capital One’s bait and switch program and go with a reputable company’s credit card.

Capital One appears to be intentionally obfuscating the dispute process. Summary: After 1.5 years of repeated checking and document submission, I have been told that this case was disqualified from the start for being 10 days late to a deadline for which I had no notification.
2 - Capital One did not notify me of a short deadline, by which to submit additional evidence.
3 - I called Capital One and was told to submit more information through email, which I did.
4 - No notifications were given, I called Capital One and was instructed to send more information through email.
5 - I have been following up on this case periodically for 1.5 years.
6 - Again, no notifications. I called Capital One today to follow up and they told me, upon their review, THAT I HAD MISSED THE VERY FIRST DEADLINE BY 10 DAYS and the entire case was disqualified to continue from that point.
I have been repeatedly asked to submit information for 1.5 years, for no reason. I have been told that customers who opt-in for electronic documents are never notified, but that the responsibility falls on my shoulders. (They said I should be frequently checking for documents within a hidden part of the phone app.) Stay away.

Customer service is not good. They just rush you. I paid my balance and then had no money in my account for several days, still waiting cause they said they had to verify, I’d been with them over two months. Ridiculous way to run a credit card company. I’ll be canceling as soon as possible.

In June of 2022 I noticed several fraudulent charges on my Capital One Credit Card. I was traveling and had my card set to auto pay through my bank account. I notified the company by telephone that I did not recognize the charges. They read back a few charges which were legitimate. They resolved those charges and sent me a new card. When preparing my expenses for work in October, I noticed a charge from April 2 for Avianca Airlines (an airline from Bogota Columbia) in the amount of $1177.50. There is a phone number associated with the purchase. **. That number rings busy and is (according to web search **) a fraudulent phone number that is associated with fraudulent purchases with this company.
I reported it immediately and notified Capital One that the card had already been switched due to the fraud that had been reported earlier and that this charge was missed. I opened a dispute and they promptly closed the dispute stating that their hands were tied due to the length of time that had passed. I have been a customer of theirs for 20 years and do not have a history of purchasing items or travel to Bogota Columbia. I do not feel I should be responsible for this fraud since it is documented that I am not the only victim of this same fraud. I also find it reprehensible that Capital One would authorize a charge of $1170.50 to South America without some sort of fraud warning trigger in their system - especially when I have a suspicious activity notification requested on my account.
According to the Fair Credit Billing Act as well as the Capital One website, my liability for this should be limited to no more than $50.00 as long as fraud is reported within 60 days which it was initially. This was an additional charge in that timeframe that was missed. I believe Capital One should have some liability for not flagging a suspicious charge which I relied on them to do. However Capital One is refusing to remove or even reduce the amount of this charge.
I found a phone number for Avianca Airlines Customer Service and spoke with an agent last evening who is aware of the fraudulent charges associated with this number. He provided me with instructions via email to submit a claim to Avianca directly to try and get the money refunded. I called Capital One again and spoke with three different representatives, the last one being Dan in the Fraud Department who would only say that Visa would not allow them to pursue this fraud claim due to the timeframe that had elapsed. At this point I feel that Avianca has done more to assist me with this than Capital One.

I am just glad I was able to cancel my account. I called in 5 times to try to get access to my account and no one was able to help me or explain why/what was going on. I could use my card but I could not access my account online or with an agent on the phone. Worried that this might be a long term issue or cancel it if I ever had to dispute a charge, I cancelled my account. And I had just gotten a credit increase... which had started all of the issues since I couldn't log in to accept the increase! Ah well. Next!

Very bad experience, they send you by email that they will increase your credit line, they run the credit that is at 775 with debt capacity, and then they send you a letter for the second time that they cannot raise your credit limit, so why? They waste the customer's time, affected by their credit points.

I have been a loyal customer of Capital One Bank, since my former bank, North Fork Bank was bought by them in the late 1990's. Unfortunately for me, my business checking account was incorrectly set up at the time, and a recent Capital One audit required them to fix the irregularity. Three months later, and 30 hours of MY TIME on the phone and visiting their distant branches, and still no resolution. The result, for three months I have not been able to view any of my accounts online or using their app. Capital One is after all a "digital bank" with very few branches remaining.
I finally gave up, and closed the two checking accounts I have. I have their Quicksilver credit card, but still cannot use the app. I can log on, but cannot see my account. I cannot understand for the life of me, why not one person on their "digital team" was caring enough to try to fix this issue. Nobody ever called me back to try to resolve the problem that Capital One created. I will never open an account in this bank for the remainder of my life.

Capital One was a good credit card choice when I was living primarily in the US. Now that I'm traveling abroad for extended periods of time, I find it extremely difficult for the following reasons:
1. Verifying purchases by sending SMS message - I no longer have a US phone number (using local SIM cards while traveling), and many online purchases require a verification process with only ONE option: to send a text message to a US number. I am not able to add an international number to my account, so I literally have no way of completing the verification process to make an online purchase.
2. Extremely frustrating customer service - I'm in a time zone that's 12 hours difference from US, so I have to make calls close to midnight, and invariably have hold times of 30-90 minutes every single time.
The latest fiasco was when my credit card was about to expire, I called to have the new card shipped to an international address. I thought it was all clear, but then the card arrived (5 weeks later) with the exact. same. expiration. date. as the old one. WTF? When I called to sort it out, they told me to have my sister forward the new card to me abroad (which they had sent to my old US address, despite me telling them NOT to issue the new card there), and then refused to reimburse the $60 that it cost her to mail it.
I asked to speak to a manager, who said that they were not even supposed to issue the card to an international address, that this had been an "exception" someone made (I totally don't buy this excuse because if there's anything Capital One and everyone in the US marketplace does exceptionally well, it's coloring inside the lines and upholding those company policies to a T... Not a chance that one of them would "make an exception" without making a big deal of it!), and this "personal expense" was my responsibility. I am beyond my limit with frustration at how poorly Capital One supports their internationally traveling clients. In a world where more and more people live and work from remote locations, they better get their act together if they don't want to lose an increasingly large chunk of the marketplace. I am definitely looking for better alternatives to this **.

I have been a Capital One credit card holder for 15 years. My purchases on their cards (I have more than one.) exceed $100,000/year. When I got a new card in the mail to replace a card that was expiring, I had to phone in and spend over 30 minutes answering questions, downloading photo ID's, etc. OMG - Who needs that abuse? They obviously have no consideration for their customer's time. There were only two reasons that I didn't just throw the card away. The first reason is that I would have lost nearly $600 of rewards cash that was owed to me. The second reason is because it would ding my near perfect credit score if canceled a card. So I kept it, BUT I certainly would never get another one.

Last month I paid off my balance on both cards with another card they decided to deem "fraudulent", restricted my account and then tacked on the payment I MADE to my balance, doubling it and now stating I owe about $1600. I called the customer service department and I always get some snotty person from the Philippines who speaks to me in a condescending, rude tone, stating they flatly refuse to discuss this with me because it is in the "fraud" department. How am I supposed to get it out of that department and fix this if they won't even speak to me about it?
I called last Friday and they were going to transfer to the "supervisor, who refused the transfer. These people are basically treating me like a criminal when I did NOTHING but pay off my balance on both cards. I am sickened and astounded at how unprofessional and cruel they treat people the bait and switch to open their accounts anyway. Ever wonder why Capital One has the most commercials? They are one of the worst banks to deal with. They outsource all their customer service lines, but that’s not the worst of the problems. Asking for a supervisor gets you nowhere because none of them have no idea how to do their job. You can ask the same question to 10 different supervisors and they either don’t have an answer and cannot pass you on to someone who does or they all have a different answer. The last time I checked there is only one set of rules in banking. Apparently not. This bank has been going down hill quickly and that is why they spend so much money on advertising…. They need customers. If you were thinking of using Capital One for any reason, don’t! What’s in your wallet? Their hands!

Due hospitalization and return to work date, I called Capital One (10/10/2022) to request a skip pay for October 13, the skip pay was successfully I was told to wait 24 hours for system to update and it was. On 10/16/2022, I received a past due email stating I need to make a payment. The first representative placed me on hold for 5 mins then disconnected the call. Second call- I spoke an representative to ask for a supervisor. They transferred me to Ashley -supervisor and did not want to handle the call so I was transferred back to another department. I’ve spoken to Ashley before and she was very argumentative and condescending. I was speaking to her and she dropped call and I talked to another agent. This agent started with my charge, finance charges and payment from September 2022 which had nothing to with the skip pay.
I asked several times with several representatives that does not use their resources to answer the customer’s questions. The outsourced representatives are more concerned about their Average Handle Time than the customers. I find it very difficult to resolve issue with Capital One customer service. This should have been a 10 mins call which would have helped their AHT. Third Call- I spoke to Aileen (outsourced agent) that stated I had a past due payment in the amount of $83.00. I asked her how can there be a past due payment for 10/13/2022 when the money due was zeroed out.
Instead reviewing the account before answering they provide inaccurate. Aileen transferred me to another supervisor that acted as though he could not hear me when he spoke it was every other word then phone disconnected. The information provided by Capital One Global Partners should match the information online. This issue will cause derogatory information placed on the customers credit report. Then it will take the customer 3-4 months to resolve the issue.

I was excited to open my new bank account, but unfortunately, they closed my account without telling me why. They just sent me a letter with 2 sentences only and no reason why they did this. I called today customer service to ask why they close my account, and a very unprofessional CSR told me "You waited too long to do a deposit". I explained to her all the problems I have faced with the online system verifying my cellphone number. Then they told me that they don't have share branches where I can make a deposit.
I linked Capital One to my current bank to be able to transfer money between accounts and that didn't work either. The CSR are NOT nice or professional. She completely disregarded my problem. She didn't care at all. DON'T bother opening an account with these people. Sadly, you're going to be better at doing business with branch locations. Recently, they put a hold on my credit card citing a problem with another bank that had been linked to my card. This is an account that has zero balance, has always been paid in full and on time and has 750000 miles accrued.
One month of repeated calls to their foreign based fraud center (they don’t seem to be able to communicate by emails or thru online accounts) and still am blocked. I found out that the amount listed "due at checkout" on the site of capital one was different than at the time of return. The "due at checkout" amount including taxes and fees was $95.56 for each of the two rentals. After returning the car rental, I was charged $196.92 for each of the two rentals. That is practically double the amount I was supposed to pay ($95.56) when I confirmed my rental with Capital One. After contacting both Hertz and Capital One customer service, nothing was done and each company blamed the other for their mistake, making me go back and forth asking for an explanation. Capital One and their perks/features were enticing until getting charged double the amount was deceiving. Now, Capital One travel center is a scam and shows misleading information. Capital One has poor communication with its customers. I do not have experience in owning a credit card. A lot of people were not taught these things in school or at home. I'm trying to break a cycle of generations having bad credit and buy a house for me and my kids. All of a sudden, they closed my account for returned payments when I had it set up for auto draft. Got paid a couple of days later than my automatic payment was suppose to come out. I thought it was ok to just pay it late. Didn't know the return payments would get my account closed. They do not care for customer interaction. They do not care to help the people who could use guidance on the risks of doing things like this. I don't care how rich people are. If things like this come up, you should be calling your customers to make sure they are aware of the risks and find other options for those of us who are learning.
Definitely not a good company to have a credit card with because they lack empathy for their lower ended customers. We are not as important as the rich are to them. That is downright just screwed up either way you look at it. You should definitely be on board with helping customers figure out issues like this instead of ignoring them. So disappointed in the lack of empathy the owners of these institutions really have.

When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told I had to give them the name of the person I was looking to talk to. I said, "I don’t know your employees' names." Had to hang up and call back. I then paid off over $9500. The next day got a $200 interest charge. I call back to ask to remove it since I paid in full. I have been a card holder with a good standing account for over 12 years. I got a balance transfer offer from Capital One last year for my Quicksilver credit card and I like to take advantage of these offers to make money. The deal was, I would pay 3% flat fee, then 0% interest for a year. Usually, I make sure to track when I need to pay off the card to avoid the interest rate spike and crazy interest charges. But I didn’t do that for this one for some reason and, of course, they don’t display the end of the rate online because they no doubt want you to pay interest. So, I called and a customer service representative stated that I had several months more for the promotional rate. “Great!” I thought and didn’t pay off the card.
A couple days later, I got $114 interest charge for the money that was supposedly under the promotional rate. I called to get some clarification and they bumped me up to an account supervisor who, after expressing some skepticism that I incurred the debt through a promotional offer at all, was able to figure out the truth: the rate had ended. I asked her if she could waive the interest rate considering a Capital One customer service representative had misinformed me that the rate was still good through October and she said she couldn’t. Yeah right. If you have an option, please don’t do business with these people. You may save yourself the infuriating experiences like this.

I purchased a concert ticket through Capital One entertainment on 7/8/22 for an event occurring the evening of 7/8/22. I then had to find parking for the event, as it was in downtown Chicago. I purchased parking through Vivid Seats for $82.67. The item description stated it was parking specifically for that event, so I had no reason to question hours & no hours were given. I received a order confirmation email shortly after purchase which indicated I purchased parking for that event & the start time of parking was 4:31 PM. The top of the order confirmation indicated, “100% Buyer Guarantee.” I received the ticket a few minutes later &, upon opening & reviewing the ticket for parking, it was only good 3-8 PM. The start time was nowhere near the start time of 4:31 PM indicated on the order confirmation & anyone who has ever gone to a concert can tell you that no concert ends at 8 PM.
I immediately called Vivid Seats to tell them I didn’t get what I paid for & either have them fix it or give me a refund. I was told I had to get confirmation from the venue the event would not be over at 8 PM, which I did. I gave them the name of the person I spoke to & she told me the scheduled end time was 11 PM. They said they’d reach out to the seller & get in contact with me in the next hour, as the event was that night. I called back after 2 hours. By this time, I had made arrangements to ride with someone & I had to leave within the hour. They said they’d try to reach out to the seller to get the time extended to 11 PM, at which point I told them that wouldn’t work because they had already tried to get in touch with the seller 2 hours prior to no avail & I had now had to make other arrangements & I had to leave. They told me no refunds.
I filed a dispute with Capital One immediately so they knew I wouldn’t be able to use the ticket I was sent due to the time constraints on the ticket that were not indicated prior to purchase. I didn’t get what I was advertised, so I figured slam dunk case & the rep agreed with me. The first few days were fine & I wasn’t worried. A few days later, however, I noticed the charge (which had been removed during the dispute) had been charged back to my card. So I called back to find out what was going on. Apparently Vivid Seats had provided some documentation to stand by the charge & Capital One was going for it. The Capital One rep I next spoke to told me what to submit & I submitted everything.
I got another letter stating my dispute was rejected because I didn’t provide requested information. I saw there was a letter in the app from the 15th that I never received that asked for all this specific information the rep never even told me I needed to provide, including a second opinion on letterhead from a similar retailer stating the reason I didn’t get the advertised product. Apparently the proof that the start time on the ticket not matching the order confirmation wasn’t good enough. & that doesn’t even factor in that the ticket had an end time on it when the order confirmation indicated no end time at all.
So I spent a lot of time compiling everything they asked for: a detailed letter spelling everything out & touching on every single item requested. Screen prints proving all the times I reached out to Vivid Seats. Ticketmaster wouldn’t help me so I asked Capital One if a letter from the venue on letterhead confirming the show didn’t end until well after 8 PM would be good enough. They couldn’t tell me. They said I had to submit it to see. So I got a letter on letterhead from the venue stating the concert ran from 4:30-10:30 PM.
At 12:20 AM this morning, I received another letter that my dispute was rejected because I did not provide requested evidence. I called Capital One again to find out what I did not provide. My letter from the venue wasn’t good enough because they were not a similar merchant. I needed another ticket selling service. Additionally, they claim I didn’t send the invoice because I didn’t include the terms & conditions. I never received any terms & conditions from Vivid Seats, which I pointed out to Capital One should be another red flag. Apparently, the document Vivid Seats provided was the terms & conditions & Capital One is not allowed to share it with me even though it relates to my own purchase.
I’m not calling another ticket selling service as I’m sick of wasting time on this only to have it rejected yet again. Capital One clearly doesn’t care about protecting their cardholders. After over 41 minutes on the phone today, I told the rep I’ll be looking to transfer my balance & hung up. Once my car is paid off in a few months, I will never do business with this company again. I was literally scammed & they have been making me jump through hoops for weeks now to try to prove my side, which I feel I did several times over. Capital One is still choosing to side with the merchant. Never again!

BEWARE!!! CAPITAL ONE WALMART CARD HIGHWAY ROBBERY!! I use this card extensively and make regular payments. Sometimes I make payments early, or pay from a different bank account as it is a family card and sometimes my dad makes the payment. In the last year my account has been suspended at least 5 times, for more than 7 days, when I make a payment. Then I am sent to the fraud department and I have to verify my accounts. In the meantime the payment has cleared my bank. So they take my money and then restrict my access to the card. Three times in the past year I have turned off auto pay in the app and it sent it to my bank anyway. I paid a smaller amount than the auto pay at the same time, as the payment was due that day. So I have 2 payments bounce at my bank and on the Capital One account. I'm being charged fees left and right.
Now they've restricted my card, while accepting payment. I have to prove that my bank account is mine and my dad's is his. In the same call they called my dad's bank twice to verify it. The customer service guy called a number he googled for my credit union, but they were located in another state. We were on hold for 20 minutes to find that out. For some reason their phone system will not allow them to call my actual credit union. I'm able to call but they can't for some reason. Although they've done it multiple times in the past. So they want me to upload a bank statement. This is after spending an hour and a half on the phone with customer service. They sent a link, that won't allow me to upload the document.
I called customer service again, I'm on the phone with the fraud department and she starts cutting out. My connection is just fine, been talking to people all day. Then she's just gone. My card is still restricted, I can't upload the document and Capital One is unable to make a phone call. Then I get a message from the fraud department asking me to call because "anyone there can help you." **. I got the same "I'm so sorry you're frustrated but the system says you have to send in a bank statement" ** rhetoric I've gotten since the first call.
Now, because the link won't work I have to print my bank statement and go somewhere to have it faxed. I have a torn ligament, torn knee cap that likes to dislocate and arthritis everywhere in my knee, walking is extremely painful. I'm done. I'm paying the remaining balance, which I'm sure they'll happily take, and then I'm just going to let it be restricted. I'd close the account but I'm in the process of buying a house and can't take the ding. As soon as I can though this card is going in the garbage where it belongs. DO NOT GET THIS CARD!! It is not worth the headaches and time away from your life.

HOW?! I specifically needed this card for this week and now I won't have it until next week (allegedly). I have no faith I will ever receive this card. And even if I do, it's TOO LATE.

I'm a victim of bank fraud - not someone stealing my ID and using my accounts but rather by the bank itself. Briefly, I opened a credit card account, earned $220 in rewards and then Capital One, for reasons never explained to me, put a restriction on the account. In an attempt to work with them to verify my identity, I submitted any number of private documents including drivers license, social security card and proof of residency. Over a period of two months, they called every two weeks to say that my proof of residency was insufficient - my submissions included a property tax bill for my residency in my name, a bank statement in my name and a utility bill from Waste Management in my name. Each time, they said these did not meet their requirements.
After two months and three separate submissions, I said enough is enough and asked that they remit to me the $220 in rewards that I had earned and then close the account. I was told that while it was restricted, they could not release the money I had earned through legitimate use of the card and so have refused to provide me with funds that I earned under their program.
I have never been treated this poorly by a bank in my life. They've never told me why the account was restricted (after approving it to begin with and giving me a high credit limit), just kept demanding documents that they were never satisfied with. I've written to the chairman, Mr. **, who did at least pass on my correspondence to someone in their fraud department but it was to no avail. So now I opened up an account with a promise of certain rewards if I complied with their usage requirements, which I did. And now they are not honoring their agreement and it's up to me to pursue legal action to get the monies due me. Perhaps a small claims court case, made public, will get their attention. Thanks for reading this review and if it keeps one more person from being defrauded, then it was worth writing.

Since my wallet was stolen and my Driver's License was in the wallet, I could only use my passport for ID Verification. However, Capital One couldn't actually use the Passport to validate my identity when it is a legally acceptable Federally issued ID. As a result, they WOULD NOT enable me to report these fraudulent charges. Capital One informed me that due to the year old fraud that they failed to investigate that they had restricted access to my money until they investigated and created new accounts in 3 - 5 days. I have now spent numerous hours on the phone after cancelling my home closing to try and get access to my funds before I lose my purchase contract on this house.
They are for some reason unable to reverse the actions that they have taken to protect my money...from me. There is nothing that I can do but wait and see if I lose this house or not. I've been a Capital One customer for years, maybe decades now, and have never had a problem, but now there seems to be something very wrong in Capital One land. Their automated systems are going awry and there's no one to be held responsible for it. Like another reviewer, I paid my taxes twice because of a Capital One error and have now spent hours of my life trying to rectify this problem. My card was declined and then the same charge went through, and then when I tried to get them to reverse their mistake I ended up on the phone for hours in a traditional dispute process that simply didn't apply when my dispute was against Capital One itself.
Now I get emails that say my card is over the limit when it isn't, and letters that say that my dispute process has been closed for insufficient information with no information about what additional information I could provide. Meanwhile, CapitalOne has no process through which consumers can evaluate the company and give feedback on these problems that need to be fixed. Hence this review.
I can't really stay with a credit card company that I can't trust to get basics correct - such as when a charge will go through and when it won't, especially when I can't get any reassurance that they are working on this problem, which means it will probably happen again in the future. I would have given 1 star, but the second star is for a history of good service up till now and also for the great customer service people at their call centers. It's the managers and directors in charge of the larger systems who need to step up and be accountable to consumer feedback.

So I looked in further and the address was in a city across the state. Impossible for me to have been there given my other charges that evening were in my hometown.
I called them and they said they would send me a new card and credit me for the fraud. Great. Except a day or two later the charges were back on my card and when I called they told me it was because their investigation had determined the chip was used so my physical card was present therefore it was not fraud. Again, this is impossible given that I could not get across the state that quickly, I have never ordered $100+ worth of poke (yuck) and the restaurant closed a month ago (according to Google). I don't know who handles their fraud investigations, but they do not know what they are doing - get a credit card that knows better. I have utilized a Capital One Rewards Credit card for over 20 years. Once upon a time, I was quick to praise Capital One for their incredible Customer Service, and often recommended Capital One products to others. Unfortunately, the company is not what is it used to be, and my dissatisfaction has risen to the point that I feel the need to warn others.
During the pandemic, Capital One cut many customers' available credit in half without warning (including mine), at a time when many were struggling and/or out of work (**). Although I did not use my Capital One card routinely for day-to-day purchases and thus was not as negatively impacted as some consumers, Capital One's actions caused my credit score to drop without warning since an individual's credit rating depends upon the percentage of available credit utilized. If the amount of available credit decreases, so does your credit score; if your spending and payment habits remain unchanged. When I called Customer Service (now overseas) to request that the credit limit I had enjoyed for over 15 years be reinstated so that my credit rating would be restored, Capital One refused to do so (thereby rendering the credit card useless for any sizeable purchase).
As if that were not insulting enough, I have now learned that Capital One treats all electronic payments made after 8PM ON THE DUE DATE as a LATE payment, worthy of a $25.00 late fee plus finance charges! All other banks and companies I deal with treat electronic transactions made through midnight on the date due as having occurred on time, with no late fee or penalty; so clearly the technology exists for Capital One to do the same. One must then question why Capital One would arbitrarily choose to treat payments made after 8PM on the due date, as though they were not made until the FOLLOWING date.
If these arbitrary policies feel as unreasonable to you as they do to me, then you will likely be happier taking your financial business elsewhere. There are too many other banks and credit card companies out there who treat their customers fairly to accept such senseless arbitrary policies that harm customers intending to pay responsibly and maintain excellent credit.

I was disgusted and felt cheated by La Quinta with capital one aiding La Quinta to rip people off. Once I pay off my credit card with capital, I will close my account with them. I have been with capital one for 15 yrs and felt so bad with the wicked treatment I got from them. The money involved is just $92 and nothing to me. Updated on 01/05/2022: CAPITAL ONE HAS STOLEN ALL OF MY MONEY! I am a retired person with only a small savings. I had an ex who continuously sabotaged my finances. That has made me very anxious about money. Every day I would check my account to make sure my savings was still there. That was money I saved over years. All of my paychecks and tax returns have been deposited into that account. I must have been clairvoyant because a week ago I received an official legitimate paper check from the government and did the thing where you take a picture and send it in as Capital One has no bank near me. Apparently, they tried to verify it but couldn't and FROZE ALL MY ACCOUNTS! They even froze my daughter's account that I'm on!
A week later they're still frozen and they said, "there is no timeline" of when it will be resolved. I have had one panic attack after another over this. I can't sleep. One day you have money and the next day it's all taken away! Somehow this is legal! They seem to think I shouldn't be upset with them about it. It's legal theft. I have tried over and over and over to get them to call the govt agency but because there are hold times they say they can't do it. I also sent them documentation. You can't rob someone of all their money unless you're a bank. Their CEO made $20m last year. Wonder where it all came from.
Updated on 01/04/2022: They still have my money and my daughter's money. Yes, they froze my daughter's account, too!! I want it back, TODAY! And they still claim they don't have time to contact the government agency that issued the check. They have a real attitude. I have filed complaints with the CFPB and that Attorney General. They have had over 3000 complaints filed with Consumer Finance Protection Bureau in the past 3 years. That's 3 per day! Just for their banking!!!
Now, they're once again acting like I've done something wrong by telling me they're ending my business relationship with me. No **! Do you really think I'd stay with a bank that has done this to me? If I don't have my money in 24 hours I'll escalate this further! Can you imagine what it's like when you've saved money for years and one day it's just frozen? I don't think I could ever trust a bank again. I'm putting my money under the mattress from now on. Why bother to put it in the bank? Look at the crap interest rates. That was a real bait and switch. Meanwhile the CEO made $20m last year.
Original Review: I've had an account with them for a long time and never had too much trouble. I had a decent savings account, checking account and credit card with them. My direct deposits went there for years. All of my stimulus checks and tax refunds went there. I started receiving a government pension. I sent the first check in where you take the picture and send that in. They said it wasn't good and couldn't verify it and froze my accounts. The Defense Finance Agency must not have caught up in the system. I spoke to two ignoramuses, one of whom put me on a terminal hold. My accounts, including my savings account and my daughter's savings account are on hold and it's a holiday weekend. No one will do anything. When my accounts are unfrozen I will close out my accounts.

Their purchase protection and dispute department is horrendous. It's been twice now that they didn't get me my money back despite all of the irrefutable evidence I provided. For one of the purchases, I had bought something on eBay and it was damaged when I got it so I opened a return claim on eBay and also a dispute with my bank for safe measure. I returned the item and then when they return was delivered, eBay told me that a refund couldn't be issued because I had opened a claim with my bank and my bank had to resolve it now. But despite this, Capital One marked it as a valid transaction, and didn't get me my money back even though I sent them screenshots of all of the conversations with eBay.
I never had this issue with Chase Bank so I am switching back. A similar thing happened with the second one. I purchased something and it arrived defective so I opened a claim with the business and with my bank, and they offered me a partial refund but they couldn't issue a refund because I had opened a claim with my bank, and then Capital One wouldn't get my money back for this either despite showing them the conversations.

However, you guys were quick to take the funds from my checking, there leave me with no access to my money. I was traveling on a grand birthday trip. I was left with no rental and had to switch to a crappy hotel because of this. I called and called to no avail. The last representative/supervisor I spoke with showed no concern and was soooo nonchalant. Basically told me call back when checking account department was opened, even though she knew I was making an overseas call that I had to pay for.
I even tried transferring money from my other account but couldn't because it was an overpay to the card. What has me sooo annoyed is if I transfer funds from an outside account it's credited in seconds but from Capital One account you guys hold for 7 days. Does this make any sense at all? Capital One has serviced the GM rewards card for the past several years, having taken it over from the prior servicer (GM itself, I think). Since the takeover by Capital One, services over the phone to replace a damaged card or to report fraud have been nearly impossible for someone without a smartphone and without a landline (last old-timey phone on the planet, I guess). First off, you seldom, if ever, get a native-English speaker-so, nearly impossible to understand some of them. Second, the headsets they use to talk through fade in and out depending on who-knows-what.
Third, their protocols insist on sending a text code to the old-timey phone which cannot receive text during the middle of the call. When they finally comprehend that, they claim to send a link by E-mail which can then be used to upload a copy of the driver's license. OK by me, but the link never comes and they refuse to re-send it, even though the E-mail address is recorded on the profile of the account. Then, after all else has failed, 45 minutes at the branch office is needed, with multiple holds for "no more than 3 minutes" is needed, even though the branch person sees me in person with my driver's license and verifies to the non-English speaker who she is and who I am. WOW - never had such an experience with the prior servicer of th account.

Told them I had Ring video recording showing the both of us at home getting dressed for work at the exact time purchase was made, AND that we left home going directly to work AND could prove it with a letter or copy of our clock in punches at work. I asked them could they please obtain footage from the merchant of the person making the purchase since Capital One "after their so called investigation" decided to hold me liable...I asked them to provide proof, they would not.
Told me the card WAS used...after going back and forth, for days and hours on the phone, I told them I can't believe their decision when I have proof it was fraud, as also reflected on my 3 credit reports and also with another credit card company. While 300 dollars is not much to some people, (the other company adjusted my account of the $1800 fraud purchases...capital one refused). I will pay this 300 and cancel my card when done. I have been the biggest salesman for Capital One for years. I advise my clients to get these cards. They have always provided outstanding customer service and been my partner. I have had this account for almost a decade. All of that said, it is clear that they are changing their ways! I made a payment of $4,727.73 (payment made weeks before the statement due date) and after 4 days they had not released the available credit. They even continued to approve charges the day they received the payment but then took the account into lockdown the day after the payment. When I called I was told that this is common when an excessively large payment has been made.
The clerk then checked the card to find that this payment was not excessively large for the history of the account. He then said during this tough times it is not unusual. When asked if there was anyone I could speak with he said no. The funds have cleared my checking account and are past the bank retrieval date. This is unnecessary and totally unacceptable. However, I received a new 10,000 Credit Card from CITI Bank with a rate in single digits. Being a loyal customer to most brands I use, I wanted to get my interest lowered at Capital One. I figured since my credit score is now in the 700's this would be a simple request. Without any concern of me cancelling my card they said they could not change my rate. I even talked to a manager. I am relatively satisfied with my Capital One credit card, however recently I wanted to provide a feedback and was not able to find how to do so, even though their website has thousands of reviews. Are those all fake? The issue I was trying to bring up is credit line increase. In my opinion their policy has a flaw. Let me explain it.
My account has virtual account numbers feature for safe online shopping and the only other card I have has this feature, is Citi. I use Citi virtual accounts all the time. But it would be nice to have a backup option like Capital One. But what happened was years ago Capital One decreased my limit to a small amount, based on daily use. Which makes some sense, because we split our daily purchases between 3 different cards by category. However, if you like me, go to a "big" vacation once a year or a couple of year and this is when you need probably a few times more limit to reserve a hotel or resort and buy tickets, then you know that at the time when you need this amount, you are limited. And if you request an increase at that time, they offer you a few hundred bucks, which is not helpful.
Don't take me wrong, I have other good cards and I actually closed a couple of because I don't need so many. My credit score is perfect and I pay all my cards in full every month. But the way it looks like their credit limit policy shoots them in their foot. I would alternate Citi and Capital One virtual number for vacation expenses, and Capital One could make some money on these purchases, but due to this vicious cycle they will never give me credit limit enough for those expenses. I was trying to find how this can be communicated to the right people and was not able to. If you call customer service, maximum you can speak to a supervisor, who does not really get this situation and just thinks I was failed credit line increase and I try to complain. If besides Citi and Capital One any other bank would offer virtual numbers, I would just use that bank instead and would not even bother with this review.

I was a great customer with Capital One, and had their Platinum card. Always paid off my balance and before the due date. In July 2021, I had booked a flight with Priceline for 299.00 with their 24 hour cancellation guarantee. I cancelled with two-three hours of booking due to the reason of the trip. I was going back to my home state due to my elderly mother’s health. She had fallen and was in the hospital. However, upon speaking with my siblings they had advised me to wait later due to the fact she would need assistance when released back home. I saved the cancellation and did not receive a credit for the 299.00 charge. I contacted Priceline and they told me that I had not cancelled my flight when I had an email confirmation showing cancellation.
At that point I contacted Cap One dispute center. I explained the circumstances, they gave me a provisional credit back of 299,00 until they could investigate. I uploaded a letter in their portal explaining what had happened, Priceline’s guarantee along with copies of my email confirmations. Within 24 hours, I received a letter from Cap One saying on my account saying the information I provided was not sufficient so therefore the provisional credit of 299.00 was reversed. How could a company investigate a dispute in 24 hours? Moreover, why wasn’t my information sufficient enough? What more did they need? I also provided them the 24 hour cancellation guarantee I had on my original confirmation email.
I contacted Cap One AGAIN, told them to reconsider and asked what more did they need? This was not a Caribbean vacation I was trying to get reimbursed for it was due to a family matter. They told me to re-write my letter again explaining why I had to cancel. I did this again, only to get denied AGAIN within 24 hours! I must have went around and around with Capital One 4/5 times before I gave up. I was on the hook for a charge that I should not have been on the hook for.
In August, my mother was to have surgery I booked a flight with a car It was a package flight and rental with Priceline. Now, I have used Priceline many times and have never had an issue with them not guaranteeing the 24 hour policy. The charge was 536.00, due to my mom's health and being 86 years old, day of surgery would be contingent on how stable she was. I made sure to again keep all copies of email confirmation, etc. I received a phone call the next morning that her surgery was going to be put on hold for a few more weeks the doctor thought. I thought, okay, I’m well within my 24 hour window, so yet again I had to cancel. I kept all of my documents. Cancelled the rental car as well.
Priceline emailed the cancellation confirmation stating I would be receiving a refund, if applicable, in 5–7 business days. I never received, I contacted Priceline again only to be told that this was not applicable to the 24 hour cancellation. I HAD the documents showing same!! Why would I have booked again, if I did not think their guarantee, which showed on my booking docs would not apply?!! If I had a purchased the travel insurance like I did in July, no claim reason is applicable for these type of reasons, so that’s why I didn’t purchase the insurance for this trip.
I contacted Cap One again to dispute the charge explained the story further explaining that I was already on the hook for 299,00 but Priceline was not going to do it again. Cap One gave me a temp credit. Again, I provided a detailed letter along with all of my documents. This time I was positive I would prevail. Again, within 24 hours Cap One had conducted their investigation and they stated what I gave them was “not sufficient”. I again, re/submitted re-wrote my letter for Cap One to reconsider 5-6 times. I contacted Priceline again and their customer service rep told me that it was Capital One’s decision to give me credit. I proceeded to communicate this with Cap One too.
On October 23, 2021, after my 6th reject letter for the credit I contacted Cap One furious. Their foreign non speaking English rep told me that there was nothing they could do. By this time I’m expressing that I had given them everything that they needed. I finally asked for a supervisor. The supervisor was very nice and told me that this was unfortunate due to the circumstances. She was going to give me a credit of 200.00 just for all the trouble and being a cap one customer. Over the next week I waited for my credit to show. Guess what…my credit was never issued.
I contacted the Cap One dispute dept on 10/28, and explained the situation and what I was promised. Mysteriously, there were no notes noted in my file about the 200 credit nor could they determine what supervisor I spoke to on 10/22. How convenient isn’t it???!!! I was then told “sorry, there is nothing we can do for you because we cannot see any notes about your credit or who you spoke with”. I told them that I will pay off my balance and I want my account canceled. I am prepared to file a complaint with the attorney general’s office because I believe Cap One did not investigate my dispute nor did they want to serve their customer’s needs. I’m sorry it takes an average of 30 days or more for a company to investigate a dispute, 24 hours? Give me a break!! Run from these outsourcing foreign speaking crooks.

This is my review of my experience with Capital One and why you should not apply or bother to consider their credit card services since their customer service is horrible and they do little to nothing to protect their customers from fraud. On January 14th I bought 4 spy cameras and 5 Samsung SD carts from a United Arab Emirates website called Desert Cart. All together the stuff cost me 216.00, but while the 5 micro SD carts worked, the Spy cameras I bought didn't have a functioning scan code needed to activate them costing me 135.04 dollars for all four cameras that won't work.
I've attempted to ask for a refund for the spy cameras, but sadly, the website insisted on having someone pick up the things personally. I waited weeks and to no avail. Upon giving up hope that anyone would come and knowing that no one has come to pick them up, I had ask for a transaction dispute on February 25th and temporarily I got my money back. Then on March 20th I my refund has been reverse and I now owe 135.04 dollars despite evidence that no one is coming to pick these things up.
I tried disputing the charge, but my dispute was eventually reversed since Capital One merely because Capital One allowed this fraudulent site to dispute back. I spent the next couple months contacting and pressurizing customer service on Desert Cart and finally I reached an agreement with them to ship the items back, yet when they arrived at their destination they still refused to give my money back because my credit card number had been changed due to a suspicious charge that forced me to get a new credit number which may or may not be connected with this site.
Yet they refused to let me give them a new credit card number and not only refused to give my money back in any way, but the site won't ever let me put in a new credit card number indicating that they are trying to cover everything up. To make matters worse, they kept asking for my bank account information as the only alternative to get my money back. I refused of course since that's sensitive information, yet despite giving Capital One all the evidence they should need that I was swindled they refused to give my money back since far too much time has gone by. I had to cancel my Capital One card as a result. Stick with Discover. They at least their appeal system works from what I've experienced.

I have had my Capital One Credit card for 25 years. In years past I did not experience problems, mainly because I put the card in a drawer for emergency purposes. Recently I pulled it out and started using it as a cash back card. I ran into a problem with my balance and quickly realized Customer Service at Capitalone does not care. They are only there to read from a script and answer common questions. Difficult questions they transfer you to a different person with a broader script to read from. In the end they do not have any tools or abilities to help you in any way. If something goes wrong with your account, there is nothing anyone is going to do about it. I DO NOT recommend anyone get an account with this Bank... Again DO NOT get an account here.. It is not worth the effort.. Plenty of banks with similar offerings and actual customer service..
In my case it was a simple solution. I sent in a payment and they (whoever opened the envelope and processed it) didn't like the look of the check. So they placed a hold on it. Not surprised, banks tend to be skeptical these days. The issue is the payment was more than my current balance, and since they placed on ahold on the check, the entire amount was now frozen to the "dollar amount" written on the payment. As if there is any question on the transaction. It's not a "Charge" is not a "Fraud" thing.. It's a mailed in "Deposit" so this hold was placed was more than enough to prevent any charges, or any further deposit, even cash.. They won't NOT take cash on the account because it was in a credit from "overpayment" from a check with a hold. We had all kinds of Amazon orders already placed as we use the card for subscribe and save toiletries and all kinds of household items all of that grinded to a halt.
I called customer service and they talked down to me like a tiny person who was invading their day. Nothing could be done, the account was locked/paused, on hold and I had no choice but to wait the 8 days.... I even spoke to supervisor asking them to cancel the deposit and that I would make a payment with cash so that I did not lose a couple of purchases we had made and business could continue to flow.. They declined and didn't want to talk anymore... They actually told me that... Just know that capitalone customer service does NOT care about you or give a crap about your problems...
If it's not on their script to read they just read a different one even if it is not related... I repeat do NOT DO BUSINESS with capitalone.. My 25 year old credit card is getting cut in half never to be used again... This is not the bank I signed up with.. No one knows who they are anymore.. And I'd rather give my money to someone who does care... Someone who will try to help solve issues when it occurs and money issues ALWAYS happen... Banks were supposed to be trustworthy..

This withdrawal was not authorized and constitutes fraud. It's now September 24th and after 6 phone calls and promises of the money being returned I am told it is under review. I have never dealt with a more dishonest and corrupt company as Capital One.

I was trying to upgrade my card to a no annual fee card. I have an excellent credit score but because I currently have a card with an annual fee, Capital One will not upgrade me to a no annual fee card that matches my credit score. They will only upgrade me to a card for people with 'fair' credit. I just paid my balance off and will be closing my account as soon as the payment posts. My family will no longer be part of the Capital One family.

Great television ads but that’s the only thing positive I can say about Capital One. I used them before and experienced high interest, late fees and a general unwillingness to work with customers. I remember calling them to try and see if they could lower my interest rate. The manager said she was (a) familiar with my account and (b) not going to lower my rate. So glad I eventually paid them off, closed the account and tore my card up.

I received a late fee. I called customer service and even talked to a supervisor. Neither one could or would, waive the fee. Then, they charged me $25 as a late fee and $1.11 interest. Finally, we received a phone call to notify us of a delinquent account. I spend $30,000 to $50,000 per month with CapitalOne Credit cards for my business. We pay off EVERY balance... EVERY month and pay no interest.
I called them to request that they refund the charges. They refuse to refund the membership fee, even if we close the account. They are very rigid and will not budge. They should be ashamed of the way they are treating fantastic customers while charging between 19% to 29% interest. We spend half a million with them every year... and they are 100% unmovable with the membership fee for a card we have not used for over 18 months...and we have no intention of using it. Horrible experience. We have small business account with Capital One for many years. Recently we received incoming wire transfer to our Capital One account. It is surprised to me that I found Capital One bank still charges fee for the incoming wire transfer nowadays. I have business account at other banks that have no such charge. I feel I have been robbed. I went to branch asking the manager to waive the fee, the manager told me Capital One doesn't give branch for the fee adjustment. She gave me the customer service number to call. I called the number and spoke to the supervisor. The supervisor told me that he doesn't have the option to waive the fee either.
Fed up with the rip-off, I decided to close the account. Then I experienced extreme hardship to do so. The supervisor said he couldn't help me to transfer the remaining balance out to my other Capital One account (I am sure the telephone banking has the capability). I had to log in online to transfer the fund. Now the account balance becomes 0. I thought it would be easy thing to close the account. Instead the supervisor told me that he has to text me some code to do so. However, he told the number that I have on file is ineligible to receive the text. I gave him another good number to use, he told me that same. Capital One sucks, I think it is tactics they set up to rip off their customers. Now with 0 balance in the account, and they don't allow me to close the account, I would be expected to hit with the monthly maintenance fee from Capital One bank.

I've been a customer of Capital One for a few years now and, overall, my experience with the bank (re: 360 checking and savings account) has been very positive. This review is exclusively about their credit card department, as it involves my recent experience with their Venture credit card. I recently needed to make a money transfer with Wise and the system didn't allow me to verify my Capital One checking account for the transfer at the time, so I decided to use the credit card (Wise offered a free transfer and there were no fees for that option either).
To my surprise, a few days later I encountered a $60 fee for the transaction, as it was registered as a "cash advance" by my bank, when it actually wasn't (even Wise confirmed that point). The people I talked to in that department were not only unwilling to consider the circumstances of my case, but also quite rude. They simply lectured me like I was an 8-year-old, in a demeaning tone that I think (at least in the case of the second supervisor) was in part due to my Spanish accent.
I have already submitted a complaint to BBB and I'm phasing out this credit card (welcome, shiny Apple Card I never really used until now). If they don't resolve this issue satisfactorily, the 360 checking and savings accounts will be closed soon as well. To me, it is essential that my bank treats me with respect, and that they stay away from shady/dishonest tactics like the one they just pulled on me. PS -- Just today, I got another charge of $13.67 for interest on the cash advance -- speak of adding insult to injury. I am done with this company.

So, I called capital one 3 times until I was transferred to a supervisor who said to me, “I’m not allowed to disclose the reasons for being declined for the promotion” and when I asked her if she knew what the reasons are in the first place, she said no I don’t.. and that was the highest person that they could transfer me to..
That was just straight up fraud because she said not all the requirements for the card are listed on the site.. So, to me, it’s like they have that promotion there to have people apply for their card and they either give it to them or not .. My husband and I got a HELOC to pay for school, so I tried to use the HELOC account to pay the Capital One bill. I put in the account wrong so the payment was returned. Then I put in the HELOC checking account number to pay off the Capital One bill, but I also mistakenly put that wrong in too (the HELOC accounts have letters in the account number so it took me a few tries to figure out exactly what numbers to leave out). Anyway, the third time was the charm and I finally got the checking account number in correctly and now Capital One has their payment. Except, they closed my account because the activity on the account did not meet their expectations (because the payment had been returned twice) and I apparently violated their customer agreement.
Fine. So, being a loyal customer for many years and now paying off my account isn't enough for them to keep it open. I just cut up my card and paid off the rest of my account. I would think that if the customer has been a good one, they would do the courtesy of calling the customer to see what was going on, but no, they just cancelled my account. I gave this company two (2) stars because the credit card worked while I had it and the employees were nice and understanding with me on the phone. Hello, my name is Nik and I work in Tennessee as a college missionary. I only banked with Capital One for about a (3) months before my card was terminated by the company. I bank with Charles Schwab and tried to set up an automatic payment for my monthly bill (since I was only spending so much on my account) and had troubles on multiple occasions trying to make a payment. I tried setting this up with the help of my bank as well as with Capital One and both parties discerned that the issue was with Capital One and not Charles Schwab.
Because of these rejected payments, Capital One's technology assumed that there was some sort of fraudulent activity happening and closed my account without any warning whatsoever (email, push notifications, USPS, etc.). This closed my credit card permanently, hurt my credit score (20 points), and disallowed my access to my already earned Rewards Cash.
I quickly filed a dispute during the third month of my time with Capital One. They mailed a letter confirming that they received the dispute and assured me that they would call me to follow up my claim. Capital One called me shortly thereafter (I believe during the window in which they said that they would) only to tell me that they had not fully processed the report and would call me back later. Two months would pass until I called them back only for them to tell me that they would not resolve the issue leaving me with a burdened credit score and unable to access my Rewards Cash.
The workers were all very patient and diligent to hear my claim and try to understand what was happening, but Capital One's systems have no framework for how to resolve an issue like this. There is an incredibly low probability that I am the only person who has experienced this problem-- yet Capital One has refused to help me through any means. On top of this, they do not have any way for me to file a formal complaint with the company (I searched online and asked the employee).
I think it's also important to note that each time I called Capital One that the customer service line would have me on hold for nothing short of 30 minutes each time. My phone calls each lasted upwards of an hour. It was also rare that I could get through on the first try to the representative that I needed to speak with. This is not good enough for a company of this size and competency. I was thoroughly underwhelmed by my experience with them and informed Capital One that I would not return as a customer unless this issue was resolved.
*I want to be crystal clear: the employees have been very nice and patient. They seem to be competent at their jobs.**I clearly asked the representative on the phone to send the audio of our call together to whomever needed to hear this issue with the company's system. I am unsure that will happen since my dispute was never followed up.

The longer I do business with Capital One the more I distrust the company and question its ethics. I have been a Capital One Card Holder for four years. I've always paid my bill on time and in that timeframe I've only filed three or four disputes and I am very active with my card. Each time I filed a dispute I had overwhelming documentation that the company was in the wrong, or that the charges were fraudulent, and each time Capital One's dispute department made it clear to me that the charges would remain and that opening up the dispute was a mere formality. It's like a kangaroo court. The decision is already predetermined and the dispute department is just going through the motions. I booked a hotel room in Atlanta, GA while I was in Dallas, TX. I went off the pictures on the website.
When I made it to Atlanta, the room was totally different. It was in such a deplorable state I could not sleep one night there. Also, it was unsafe. The cabinets were yellow with peeling paint and they were hanging from the hinges, the stove did not work, the green carpet was so soiled and matted it was black and unsafe to walk on barefoot. Some of the lights did not work, the room had a terrible roach problem, the bed was broken and not steady, the comforter on the bed had stains and holes as well as the curtains, the door had a huge gap between where it met the paneling and bugs from the outside could crawl through plus it was so flimsy it could be pushed open with a good shove and there were mysterious, very nasty looking brown stains and smudges smeared on the wall by the tv.
When I saw the room I immediately went to the office and requested a refund. Of course like most slum hotels they said no. I had paid for the entire week off of a bait and switch. The pictures shown on the site did not depict the room accurately. So I took pictures of the room for documentation and left. I called Capital One to tell them about the room and I encountered a very rude, snide, condescending and dismissive agent. He kept stating "well you booked the room" and he did not care that the room that appeared online looked nothing like the room I was given. He also made it clear that if the hotel refused to give my money back there was nothing I could do. He refused to look at my photos and Capital One temporarily removed the charge but as soon as the hotel responded. They placed the charge right back.
Even Though I left the room the first night. I was only given my money back after I posted the room photos online. Then that's when the hotel refunded me. I had also had several instances of hotels placing phantom charges on my credit card long after I had left the hotels for rooms I was no longer staying in. Capital One disputes was no help. They allowed those charges to also remain and I had to threaten to sue the hotels to get my money back. I also had instances where service I paid for was never rendered. Capital one allowed those charges to remain as well.
Capital One has never fairly investigated a dispute. They take the Company's word, or the scammers word - time and time again. It doesn't matter what proof you have, or whether the scammer or business lacks proof - Capital One allows the charge to remain. Capital One breaches their own contract, their own covenant, with their card holders by failing to fairly investigate disputes and by overlooking documentation provided by the card holder. Last, just yesterday I called the dispute department and spoke with Kiana a dispute manager. She also stated that Capital One will only refund if the business agrees and provides documentation stating they are refunding. So that basically says if the Business does not agree - the capital one card holder is on their own.
Capital One credit cards offer no protection. They are just debit cards with high interest. On top of this I had a 700 credit score and very low debt and a I made over $50K a year and my credit limit was a paltry $3,000.00 with a 24% interest rate. For the four years I've had my credit card I have an excellent payment record and I've received no credit limit increase. So Capital One is stingy as hell too.

I called and the automated answering service does not work. Plain garbage. I was on the phone for 23 minutes to dispute an error. Completely unacceptable from Capital One. It took weeks to get funds transferred in - failure after failure, and when all that finally got worked out, I couldn't use them for everything. They put a hold on the account and held my money hostage. I called night after night. They'd put me on hold and just leave me there, after transferring me from department to department. There's no other way to get ahold of them other than snail mail. The situation is currently ongoing. If you're going to bank with any organization, I highly encourage you to pick a neighborhood bank, and whatever you do, don't choose Capital One! Terrible service! Totally incompetent. We used the card a few times and paid 100% of our bill on time each month. We must have had good enough credit as is in order to prequalify for the Quicksilver card. I watched my credit score drop 40 some points and my available credit shrink to $150.!!! It is a nebulous process getting a credit limit then seeing your score sink out of sight through the normal use of a credit card and paying it all off in a timely manner. This is a cheap looking piece of plastic. There is a strip which has a phone number to call for activation. When you peel this off there will be a dirty sticky face on your card. Alcohol scrub will take the shiny surface off. I applied my rewards to my bill when I get them.

I had an ATV loan that was financed originally through another bank and my account was acquired by Capital One. I paid the account off in 2018 after a stellar payer history. I went to sell my ATV only to find out they they never released the lien on the title. It takes me 15 mins every time I call in to even get to someone that can speak about the account and they are completely useless from there. The only story I ever get is that it takes 15-30 days to resolve the issue. This last time they explained that everyone is working from home and can only mail and fax stuff on Fridays. Is this company for real!?! What year is it? I will never use their services again and will actively dissuade others from doing so as well.

If 98% of your clients speak English and you must outsource, why not outsource to countries who have cultural and language competence in the country you primarily serve? Like Canada, Japan, Mexico City (not other areas though), and Jamaica. These are all really good countries to outsource to. NOT India, Pakistan, Columbia, Nigeria, or Central America.

I have credit cards with USbank, BARCLAYS, GE, Synchrony, Chase, CapitalOne,... The only reason for having credit cards to me is paying bills with different pace but I always pay in full and on time because the concept of interest and late fees never made sense to me. Important fact that I just recognized is that Capital One is the only creditor (Walmart credit card) which does not forgive you even once for paying after 8 pm Eastern time on the due date (Even for a 6-years customer who always pays the whole balance and on time). Let's say when you just changed your address and did not receive your bill in the mail and you forgot about or did not know about the 8 pm ET, no courtesy for you or even their long term clients.
Not just that, they also charge you interest for two executive bills meaning they charge you interest twice (two bills in a row) for only one time of missing the cut off time (remember just the cut off time not the day of your payment, for most credit cards you have all the way to 11:59 pm on the due date to pay in case you got busy during the day). With all that abundance of options we have as customers to choose a credit card, CapitalOne is NOT a smart and affordable choice to go with unless you want to pay fees and interest charges two times for only one time of missing cut off time!

I called the fourth time after the charge has been added. Now the customer care personnel denied waiving off the fees and offered a downgrade for the annual fees waiver. Then the call is moved to another department and the new person is ready to do the downgrade and the fees will stay. I asked why the previous person told me the downgrade will waive the fees? When the shoes arrived, they fit poorly and looked cheap. Immediately I contacted the company for a return address. The company then began to negotiate the refund they would provide and informed me the picture I had provided, showed the shoes to be in great shape therefore they would not refund for the following reasons: it's too far, the cost to send them back is too expensive, there is a pandemic going on, they may never arrive to China etc. After ongoing correspondence an address was provided, the shoes were sent back (at my expense).
Meanwhile, I have been in touch with Capital One who have requested, on Master Card's behalf, that I contact a local vendor who sells shoes and request they review the shoes and on their letterhead, explain why the shoes do not fit properly. During a pandemic, Capital One is requiring me to go to some store (stores were not open) and asked them to review the fit of the shoe and on their letterhead, explain why the shoe is a poor fit. Remember now, 100% guarantee from the vendor has been forwarded to Capital One, but MC is disregarding this and requiring me, during a worldwide pandemic to go above the vendor's own warranty. Capital One had now informed me, because I did not complete this egregious requirement within a certain time frame, I can not be helped.
I have provided proof I purchased the shoes on my card but somehow the vendor pushed it through a PAYPAL account called DANKTHIKIMN. Aug.11th it posted. I have provided a receipt of the shoes being returned and a tracking number, I have contacted the vendor multiple times who assured me the shoes would be refunded in full, less the $30 or so I spent to return them. The vendor now says they have refunded them to the PAYPAL account and I can collect the money from there. I don't have this account, I didn't charge them through PAYPAL and Capital One says they can not help because the dispute has been closed.
I am now out of the shoes, the money and the cost to send them back. Furthermore, I have been told there is nothing anyone can do, talk to the vendor. The vendor says to talk to Capital One. Please tell me what I did wrong and how can I get support to have my money refunded. And how were these shoes purchased through a PAYPAL account I don't have when I used a credit card. Please explain to me how I am being supported. The customer service on both sides is negligent.

They owe me that one star, they have deceptive practices. They held my payment that I paid from the same account that I have been using since I opened this account and the same method always pay on their app. 6 days later the payment still hasn’t posted and I got charged interest on the balance they are “holding”, customer service is a joke and will give any excuse to get you off the phone. The app states payments would be posted the same day or the next day if the payment is made after 8pm. All lies just so they can charge late fees and interest on the balance that was paid in full.

During such an awful time in this world this bank holds your payments! Even though you have never had a issue. Same bank, same account, never late, never returned! They're liars! One person tells you one thing and then you get the run around!

I received an email from PIA reference renewing my account automatically, and charging me $39.95. I emailed PIA, and told them I didn't want to renew, and wanted a refund. I called Capital One, and advised them I didn't want this service and was disputing this charge that posted on October 28th,2020. They refunded my account $39.95 on October 31st 2020. On November 10th they re-charged $39.95 back to my account. I called them, and asked them why, and they said PIA said it was correctly charged, and that I had the services. I found the reference number for the PIA cancelation, and I tried to send the reference number by fax, because Capital One wanted proof of it, but of course it didn't go through. Capital One claims they sent me a letter in the mail that I never received. I also spoke to three different agents who said they would send a letter to my work and personal email accounts, that I never received. I even checked my spam folders.
I then called twice, and asked to speak to a supervisor, and was told to hold on, and was hung up on. PIA told me this account was canceled, and refunded, and that it had to be on Capital One side if my refund didn't go through. What company do you know is unable to send letters in the mail. Send letters to email accounts. Unable to get faxes, and hangs up on you when you call. I am sure I am not the first person to experience this with Capital One. They are bound to get a class action lawsuit filed against them.

I have had an account with Capital One for over 37 years. I have lived in areas of the US that do not have a local Capital One. However, I was still able to do my banking online. Likewise, I had a line of credit with Capital One for over 26 years. In May 2020, Capital One decides to discontinue their lines of credit. However, they failed to notify their paperless customers. In July, I noticed that my account was locked and the balances were zero. I called customer service and they advised that they have discontinued this service.
I was still able to pay the balance by transferring the payments from my checking account. However today - Dec 7, they have also disabled the ability to pay the account balance electronically. I called Capital One again and advised that I did not receive any notice that this option was being disabled. The rude customer service lady said, "well I'm advising you now". I travelled to Capital One and tried to pay the amount in the bank. The teller advised that they do not receive auto loan, credit line payments, etc. in the bank. So Capital One has disabled services that allows customers to do business with them online with no warning and in the middle of a pandemic.
After 37 years, I will be closing every Capital One account and advising my friends and family to do the same. Capital One is no longer customer friendly and has made it very difficult to do business with. Save yourself some time and heartache - Open an account with Chase (that offers a $200 bonus for new accounts) or with Bank of America (that offers $150 for new accounts). Chase was more than willing to accept my money and they can provide the online services that I need during this pandemic.

Charge interest on new purchases. Had a credit on my account and they charged interest on my new purchases. I will not bank with a company that is not ethical. They charge interest on new purchases, they prorate into the future on new purchases without giving you the opportunity to pay off.

Do not trust this bank. Pure trash customer service. I bought a cell phone from electronicsforce.com, also known as cell2get.com. The website sent me the wrong phone. Then they did not want to send me the correct phone. False advertising. So I call Capital One and get a temporary credit. 90 days pass without them asking me for more information. After 90 days they rule in favor of the merchant. So Capital One won't side with me because I did not reply within their request WHICH THEY NEVER SENT ME ANY REQUEST FOR MORE INFORMATION. Capital One supports false advertising. Plain and simple. I urge everyone TO AVOID THIS GARBAGE BANK AND ITS CREDIT CARDS PLEASE. Do not go through what I went through.

They target a specify demographic with their new floating billing cycle terms. I called the day they released the new terms and was given false information regarding my interpretation of the terms that were presented. You would think that they would educate their staff to effectively assist their customers in the event that there is a problem. BOY WAS I WRONG! Not only were they not able to articulate the correct way to calculate the correct statement date I was informed by a manager not to listen to anything that the first representative say to you....
I don't even know where to begin with how upsetting this current situation has made me. Not only have they been effect in dropping my credit score they have also proven that even after 5 years of loyalty never missing a payment the kind of respect that they have for you. For those looking to join Capital One, don't waste your time communicating with the lower level staff. I have recorded conversations of over 6 different employees who do not even know how to calculate the bill cycle date. So if you need any clarity regarding your account good luck, because the managers do not know either. The only reason we were able to determine the correct way to count was by looking at my past credit statement.
Also their app does not provide you with any valuable information regarding your up and coming statement dates. They only provide information regarding your due dates and if you are familiar with trying to improve your financial worthiness you would know that your STATEMENT DATE are the most important dates to look out for.
So with that being said, Capital One is only trying to manipulate a certain level of economy status. Why else change formatting of statement dates from concert to floating, and leaving the method of interpretation through a 5 sentence paragraph that can easily be misinterpreted based on your perception of how and when to count from the due date.!!! These people are con artist. If I leave you with one thing I would say read your statements and if you see something funny, call, ask for a manager, record the conversation and get ready for them to do nothing. That way you don't have to waste any time gathering false information.

I am not happy with Capital One. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I have been with capital one for about 2 years until they recently closed my account for "fraud". I went into my online account in hopes of paying one of my cards off when I finally received my unemployment. I decided to pay with my checking account because I had misplaced my debit card. Well big mistake because when I put my checking account number in I made a mistake of putting a 7 instead of a 6 for the very last number. I checked my account everyday wondering why my payments had not posted. I made a $32 payment on the 9th and then a $532 payment on the 11th when I received my money (from the same account). So after days passed by and my payment still had not posted I decided to give capital one a call.
I sat on the phone for 20 minutes with a representative trying to get to the bottom of everything. After about 15 minutes of looking for everything that could have went wrong he asked me to give him my checking account and routing number. After I gave him my checking account number he yelled with excitement, "there's your problem! You put a 7 instead of a 6!" I was so happy to had found the issue. He asked me if I wanted to process the $532 payment using my corrected account and I said yes, but when he tried the system would not let him process the payment because my balance had went into the negative or something of that sort. He told me to call back tomorrow and he was making notes of everything so that the next representative would see what was happening.
I wake up the next morning to make a payment and my account is mark CLOSED. I called capital one and they told me it was closed due to fraud. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. I called the fraud department 3 or 4 different times and nobody could help me. They made me feel like a convicted criminal for an honest mistake. I now have to hire a lawyer to get all of this cleared up. This entire situation is depressing and I find myself crying about it everyday. I lost my job due to COVID and was still trying to keep my credit cards in good standing. I've been building my credit and I have been pushed back even further because of an honest mistake. I am now looking for legal assistance

This company will cancel your charges without being able to give any reason. This usually isn't a problem, aside from some random third party telling you what you can purchase, but sometimes you will miss out on an incredible buy. I, for instance, had to pay an extra $1000 when I missed out on a 30% off flash sale on an UST projector. After finally getting a hold of customer service and after they finally managed to get my account back up the items were no longer available. ** company through and through. Do yourself a favor and go with another creditor.

Capital One mishandled my dispute and due to their advice on how to proceed I lost $943.68 from a vendor for a service that was never provided. Capital One never returned calls or followed up and did not keep accurate notes. It is has now be 7 months since I first filed the dispute and I just had to file with the BBB in order to get help to move this along. I am a long time customer with a great history and they refused to own their mistake. Terrible experience and super frustrating. Agents are nice, leadership is thoughtless.

I have two Cap One cards that I've had for years. They are always paid on time and early in the cycle. I haven't had problems with them until recently. Earlier this year 3 fraudulent charges were made on one of the cards, 3 charges at fast food restaurants between Pensacola, Florida and Texas, all during the worst time of the pandemic this Spring. Called Cap One and these were remedied. They sent me a new card to replace the one with the fraudulent charges. I tried to activate it and the nightmare began. They were wanting me to prove who I am by scanning documents and sending them to them over my cell phone. I said "no" that I'm not putting myself at further risk.
They said my account would be fine restricted until I was ready. They kept trying to contact me to get these scanned personal documents again. Finally, I called them and found one reasonable person in the fraud department who checked my account and couldn't find a single reason why I was being asked for personal documents. He fixed the situation and everything was fine. Now 3 months later, I go to pay my bills for the two cards and both of the cards have been restricted. Again I call the Fraud Dept and I'm asked to do the same thing, to scan personal documents and send to them. Again, I said, "No." I told them I was willing to answer any questions, but I was not putting my personal documents at risk for something that wasn't necessary.
I asked them why my accounts were restricted and they refused to tell me. I spoke to one more person who was supposed to be a manager, and got the same answer, that he couldn't tell me. We went round and round for several minutes. I asked him for the next person about him and he said I'd reached the top. To which I said, "I know you're not the CEO of Cap One so I definitely have not reached the top!" We went round and round for a few minutes. He said that he couldn't tell me who was higher up than him, it was against policy. So, Cap One is wanting me to do prove who I am when they were not willing to prove to me who they are. It works both ways.
Finally I just told him I was going to pursue it further, but my relationship with them was definitely over, that they just lost a customer. I told him someone could call me back if they wanted to, but it wasn't going to make any difference to me keeping a relationship with them. The biggest problem I have with the situation is that they were stonewalling me; they refused to help, so I refused to answer. I'd stay away from this company. The credit cards seemed to be good over the time I had them, but they are not worth the trouble now.
I have other cards, a very good one with my credit union, which is far more reliable and safer for me to have. It's difficult to connect with Cap One now; so many things have changed. No secure messaging, no email for customers, no notice of anything unusual happening to the customer, no communication period. My advice is to find another credit card company. And for those with the good reviews... just wait until something goes wrong and then you will find out.
