I had a Capital One account for a few years and paid off the account in 4/2008. Never had any trouble with Capital One, except the hidden fees and high card interest rates. So, I paid off this account and called them. After waiting for a long time on hold, I instructed the Capital One agent to close the account and send me a letter verifying the account is closed. A few months latter, 7/2008, I finally get a letter from Capital One. It was NOT the confirmation of account closure that I was waiting for, instead I was greeted with a billing statement for a membership fee on an account that I had closed, not used, DID NOT request, DID NOT sign for.
I have made 2 other calls to Capital One, after being on hold for long periods, I was able to contact their agents and each time they have agreed to close the account. Now, 11/15/2008, I received a billing statement, for an account I DID NOT authorize. They're fraudulently charging me for the membership fee plus 4 months of late fees and interest. All for something I DID NOT AUTHORIZE, and have NOT USED!!!

I have been SLAMMED with over the limit fees sometimes 2 in one month! I have called them and they refused to work with me. The fees keep piling up due to things I did not ask for such as credit inform and payment protection. They keep adding these charges to my current account from previous months which in turn puts my account in over the limit status.

In March 2008, I contacted Capital One to close my credit card account that had a not-so-ideal APR and a sub-par credit limit. I hadn't used the card in over six months and I had acquired better cards over the years. In May 2008, I was still receiving statements, with no balance, so I called again and was assured the account was closed. In early October, after around five months of no correspondence (I had even been locked out of the company website), I received a statement via email (and four days later via postal mail) indicating that I was carrying a balance as a result of the Capital One Member Fee.
On October 23, I contacted the Capital One Customer Service team and wasted an hour and a half of my life bouncing around to all corners of the globe. I hung up with the acknowledgment that my account was credited. During this ordeal, I was transferred to the payment protection team - at the advisement of a customer service representative - and canceled the payment protection on the account.
Today, I was greeted by another Capital One Statement. Needless to say, I was floored. Capital One was charging me a late fee as a result of a $0.38 payment protection that was administered when the previously credited $39 Member Fee hit the card. So, my wife took over, because I couldn't possibly find it in my heart to be pleasant or polite to anyone at Customer Service. Lets see, she talked to Vanessa in the Philippines, Frank, the belligerent supervisor from New Brunswick, Canada, Ross from Disputes in Bombay, India. Finally, we wrapped up with Tiara from Kansas in Payment Protection. The runaround started at around 5:45 PM and wrapped up just before 7:30 PM. We walked away with a guarantee from Ross in India that the account was credited and closed, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
During my early correspondence with Capital One, I expressed my displeasure with their follow through, and asked to be removed from all future mailings. While that request has never been honored, I believe based on the events from earlier this evening, I haven't had my last conversation with a customer service rep from Crapital One...

In the beginning of August, I lost my card, I immediately reported it lost & was told that the card would be frozen and I'd be sent a new one. After 7 phone calls, over 2 months, each receiving responses that this is new information and I will be order a card, etc... I finally said I cancel all continued service with them and any charges after the loss are not valid. Now, they wish to investigate the transactions of 4 months ago - stating it is my signature on the receipts... How am I supposed to remember? All I remember was I lost it, reported it, never got a replacement, called numerous times, & went through the reporting process over & over... All customer service calls were being received in India

In 12/2007, I closed my older Capital One credit card and opened a new one with a lower APR. Letters and CSRs confirmed this. After 30 days, I received calls from the collections department that my older, closed card was past due. After contacting Capital One numerous times explaining this to them, I was informed that the older card had not been closed out properly and as a result my credit had been negatively affected.
I was assured that they would be withdrawing the negative reports on my credit and was sent confirmation of this assurance via letters. Today, I received my annual free credit report and Capital One still has negative reports on my credit for this issue that their company caused. This is after almost one year, hours of phone conversations and assurances that were both recorded by Capital One and letters sent to me confirming that this was indeed their fault and I would not be negatively affected.

I received a bill from Capital One for $19.00. This was the yearly fee for using their card. I mailed the payment 4 days before it was due. Capital One said it received the payment 2 days late. I have mailed payments 10 days before it was due and they have listed them late. When I called to find out if they would drop the $15.50 late fee on a $19.00 bill I had to go through 2 people to be told that once in the past I have had a late charge removed and I used up my only one. Even though this charge was not for any product or service other than Capital One's charges. So as Capital One refused to work with me I closed the account.
Then I was informed that my $19.00 fee would be returned after the $15.50 late fee was subtracted from the account. What anal retentive idiot invented this. All Capital One had to say was to have my rule book (terms of account) they sent about the account if I want to contact an attorney as what they did is totally legal. I informed them that I hope the CEO. with his big bonus check chokes on my $15.50 part of the bonus. It is companies like this that are helping with the bad economy, ripping off the consumer and preying on people who may need that card for an emergency as my family DID!

Approx. 5 years ago, I had two Capital One cards. I paid one off by an an electronic debit of several hundred dollars. I have bank proof of that. And then later on, I paid off the second through a group of lawyers. I also have proof of that. I know I had only two cards and have paid them both off, but they legally forced me to pay off a third account, which is almost paid off. But I know I had only two accounts.
How can I get Capital one to provide me with the supposed three accounts, when I know I only had two but have had to pay three times? Soon I will retire and have retirement money and will use whatever financial means I have to have them provide proof of three accounts. I know I only had two but they would not provide all three account #'s. I have worked for the local school system for 30 years and I know I never had three accounts. Can you help?

I'm writing on behalf of a family member who is absolutely destroyed now that Capital One Bank has taken over North Fork Bank. She is employed at a call center environment, with 60 plus calls waiting a day at minimum. With a service level of 30% when it's supposed to be around 80% or higher. The minute one call ends, another one follows, without one second in between. Its nonstop. They cancel morning breaks a majority of the time out of the week, if call volume is high. I feel Its very essential that they receive all breaks due to the high call volume. The managers don't allow you to have 2 seconds to yourself.
If there is a holiday or any given day where the calls are not as consistent, they're ready to send you home, using YOUR OWN voluntary unpaid time off. There's a thing called compliance which you are required to reach a certain month to date average which is 93% or higher, and is nearly impossible due to reps having to limit each call to less than two minutes and two seconds, while assisting clients.
Another issue is you're penalized for using the restroom which is over their allotted time frame. You have to suffer if you are on the phone assisting a client and the phone call runs over into your lunch time which, for example is twelve noon and let's say the call ends at twelve ten, naturally you're going to log off at twelve ten and return at twelve forty because you're entitled to a half hour lunch break. Unfortunately at Capital One Bank because you went to lunch late, you are considered late returning and it is deducted from your compliance.
If we were to hang up on the customer, it would be considered an auto fail, so they leave us no choice but to accept it. The person that I'm speaking of is a very good employee, and has been working with the bank for three plus years. As we stated earlier she's been employed with them ever since it has been North Fork Bank. She has never been written up or received any verbal warnings. She has kept a Great attendance and always meets the job requirements and expectations. I Come home every day and see this person mentally physically destroyed, this job is getting the best of her. It's indescribable the amount of stress and depression this person has endured working with this company. This is not just a problem with this individual 80% of her co-workers have complained and I've decided to take further action in hopes to seeing some results.

I accepted a $300.00 unsolicited credit card from Capital One back in 2003, and it's been a huge mistake ever since. The account was paid off and closed in 2004. Capital One has continued to haunt my credit reports by saying the balance owed is $1,918 and there was a charge off of $877. On my Equifax & Experian reports, it shows the account as being closed but Capital One still shows payments being received. On top of that, they show charge offs in between different months on the 81-Month Payment History, and they show the latest charge off being November 2008. How can they charge off something that was already CLOSED years ago?
In checking my credit reports, I also noticed that Capital One has checked my credit report on different dates and they are still trying to offer me credit. If I owe them so much money, then why are they trying to extend me more credit? This just doesn't make sense to me. Someone needs to stop this company in their tracks because they are consistently ruining people's lives. They keep putting in the negative reports so their account can keep riding on consumer's credit reports. They don't want their information to drop off your credit report in 7 years and it's just not fair. I don't recommend them to anyone no matter what good rates they cook up, because in the end, Capital One will bring you down. Now it's time for some watchdog group to bring them down!

I have been a Capital One customer for four years and never once made a late payment to them but last year, GMAC goofed and accidentally reported me 30 days late to the credit bureau which of course lowered my credit score. Capital One noticed this and decided to raise my interest rate from 18% to 28%. GMAC corrected the error but Capital One refused to lower my interest rate back to where it was. The guy I spoke to at Capital One could barely speak English and was very annoying and unpleasant to say the least. I only owed about $400 on the card so I paid it off and told them to close the account. I know that Capital One didn't do anything illegal but it was unethical and it was even worse that after the error on my credit report was fixed, they still refused to lower my interest rate. This company sickens me.

Several months ago we stopped receiving monthly statements. After we noticed the omission, we called the first time and were told that we had a late charge. When we argued that we had not received a statement, the representative said he was going to erase the late charge if we paid over the phone. When we refused and agreed to pay through our on-line bank service in a few days, they agreed. We did so with the expectation that we would receive a statement showing no late fee. However, since then we still have received no monthly statement so we have no idea of what charges they are attaching to our account. Each contact says that they will sent a statement and then request a phone payment. We have refused until we receive a statement.

I called Capital One last year (2007) to close my account. This is a account I do not use and was in shock when I got a late notice from them billing me a service fee on my account, so in addition to the service fee they charged me a late fee. They at that time refunded the fees and told me they would close the account and to cut up my card, which I did. Well, here we are again in the fall of 2008 and the same thing happens. I thought this account was closed, but they never closed the account, so it remained open and then again I was charged a service fee and another late fee for I had no idea this account was still active.
I phone 3-4 times on October 27, 2008. They said they would close the account and refund the fees in which they charged and said I would receive a confirmation letter in the mail within 7 days. This letter never came but a collection letter did. I called again on November 11, 2008 spoke to 3 people, not for sure what the first gal's name was, for hardly any speak English so you can understand. She transferred me to Daisy whose control # is **. She explained to me the account was closed and she would be sending me a letter. I demanded to speak to a manager on duty.
I was transferred and this lady tells me that my account is not closed and will not refund the fees. By this time I had enough - it was not about the money but the carelessness and complete stupidity on their part. This lady was going to then transfer me onto her supervisor, but as experienced countless times prior - I was completely 'hung up on'. So I paid the darn fees and have asked them again to close my account which still remains open today - I can't close this account, but they will continue to charge me fees every year on an account they will not close! I am sending them a certified letter to close the account - I pray this works.

A credit card was taken out in my name without my authorization or consent. I realized this once I ran my credit report. My husband and I called Capital One repeatedly without much luck. We called about 10 times and each time transferred to one person who transferred us to another person who transferred us to a department and then back to the original person we spoke with. Each call lasted close to two hours.
Through the fraud department, we finally discovered that a relative took this card out in my name, using my information. Due to this fact, there were only one of two options given to us. 1. File a police report against this relative. 2. Have this relative sign a statement of responsibility in which then the debt would be turned over in their name and out of my name, off my credit.
We chose option 2. We mailed this form, signed and filled out completely. We faxed this form to the fax number given to us and on the form itself. Every time we've called Capital One to verify the info was received, they claimed they never received it. We have since faxed and mailed many times and still no response and they still claim to not have received. It's been over a year and I'm still at the same point I was when I first discovered this problem. They treat me horribly every time I call, they treat me like the thief and not the victim. Even though it was a relative, it's still fraud and very much a big deal.

They never rectified the problem they caused, yet they kept jacking the costs higher since '04. Finally today, I contacted their Bull/bill collectors, Pollack & Rosen, attys-at-law.

Many years ago, I received an unsolicited Capital One Visa card with $100 credit limit. I maintained this card only using it for emergencies with no problem. It wasn't until I lost my job and was only able to pay minimum monthly payments that this situation GREW out of control. I was constantly faced with over the limit fees, late fees, an astronomical finance rate of more than 21% a monthly service fee (just to keep the card) and some more stuff. When I asked Capital One to close the account, they told me they could not do that, but what they did do was to continue to charge monthly fees on the card. They would not accept or make payment arrangements... it was all or nothing.
So fast forward 8 years, Capital One is STILL pursuing this account... STILL charging daily interest on the account. So what was once a $100 credit limit is now a $5,000 debt. They (unknown to me) attached my bank account in 2005, and now in 2008, they are trying to go after my wages. I contacted the collection company which now owns this debt, and they seem not to know anything about the 2005 collection efforts. I contacted my local district court to find out about appealing this recent wage garnishment, to no avail... Please somebody help me... I am out of answers. I have heard the Capital One has been trouble in recent years regarding this same type of underhanded unethical practice. Is this true and if so, who can I contact?

Two years ago, we moved from CA to WA. The moment we received our new phone number, we began receiving as many as 15-20 phone calls daily from Capital One. We told them we were not the party they were trying to reach and each caller said they would put that info in their report so we wouldn't be called again, but we were. With our caller ID, we decided to stop answering any toll free calls, since our experience told us it was Capital One.
When they have left a message, we have called to try to talk to someone, but they say to put in our account number, which we do not have, and we cannot speak to a person until a number is recorded. We have tried to reach Capital One by email and letters. They have told us by email we wouldn't be called again. They reply by mail asking for our account number before they can help us. We don't have an account number, we have never had an account with them.
Frankly, I would never have an account with them. I am still receiving several daily phone calls from Capital One. Okay, so when I was 18, I got a card with Capital One. It had a $200 limit on it and being only 18 and thinking I was a hotshot because I was the first in my circle of friends to have a credit card, I was whipping it out everywhere, paying for things for all of us. I wound up $7 over the limit and of course incurred an overlimit fee. Okay, no problem, my fault. So, I paid the entire balance about a week after I got my statement, including the overlimit charge. Apparently, there was a 'delay' in the mail delivery and they didn't receive it until after the grace period, so they charged me a late fee on top of it.
I didn't find out about it, until I got my next statement and I called to argue my position. I told them that I had written and mailed the check with like 8 days left in the grace period, (at that time it was 15 days) and that there was no way that the mail could have been 'delayed' for the extra 8 or 9 days. The rep I was speaking with became very rude and threatening saying that if I didn't pay the late fee that it was going to ruin any chance I had of building a future and that I'd be a deadbeat that never got to go to college because they were going to wreck my first attempt at establishing credit.
Well, I got rude back at her and simply refused to pay the late charge and that they had better rectify the situation or else. She hung up on me. I kept getting statements in the mail and I ignored them because to me, this was a matter of principle and at 18, not realizing how badly this really could damage my future, I tried to stick to my guns. About a year later, I started receiving harassing phone calls, several times a day, starting as early as 6 am and as late as 9:30 or 10 pm. I ignored them until my mom told me that I needed to talk to them.
Finally, I answered the phone and they told me that I now had a balance of over $1200 because supposedly, I never paid off the initial balance that I had racked up and the remainder of the charges were incurred due to my 'negligence' in complying with my contract. I told them that I had proof that I paid off my balance, the check I wrote them had been cashed and they tried to tell me that at the time that I'd sent them the payment, it had gone toward a bunch of overlimit fees and late charges that had already been tacked on (for what reason, I'm not sure) and tried to tell me that I just didn't remember what I had done to deal with the situation because it happened a year ago.
Supposedly I didn't 'remember' that I still had a balance from bogus fees. So, they just kept on ticking more and more fees on top of bogus fees. After arguing with them over the phone several times, being transferred from one supervisor to another, my mom got on the phone and tried haggling with them for me. They told her that there was no way they would settle the account for less than half of what the balance now was, which would have been just over $600. She offered to pay them, on my behalf, $200, plus one late fee as a show of good faith, in case maybe I did actually 'forget' what my balance was.
They refused to accept her offer and told her to tell me, 'well, tell your daughter she's gonna have a real hard time in her life because she's so irresponsible with her credit'. Needless to say, my mom got ticked and hung up on them. Shortly thereafter, collections started calling me. I ignored them. Seven years later, just before the time was up that it would be expunged from my credit history, they sent me one last statement, offering to settle the account for somewhere around $2000, half of what it had grown to. Again, I ignored it, and FINALLY, it stopped haunting me. All this from a meager $200 limit and an ignorant kid who knew nothing about the kinds of scam artists Capital One actually are!

I applied for a $300.00 dollar limit visa credit card with them and used the card and max card to the limit. I was making payments on it and sometimes was late. Every time I looked at my bill the interest rate kept increasing and late fees increased and it seems like no matter what I would pay the fees kept adding up. Also, they charged me a fee just to keep the card every month $6.00. They would want me to pay in full in order to keep fees from adding up to my balance. I could not pay in full; I only could pay the minimum or little more than the minimum. I just felt trapped like I would never be able to pay them off with all those fees, so I stop paying them.
They did not call me or send any bills. Instead they had a Fulton County (Georgia) Marshall come and serve me papers to go to court. I read the paper; called their attorney office and they told me I owed a total of $980.00 dollars which included interest and fees. I only used $300.00 why pay them that. I did a balance transfer to a new Capital One credit card that was to be a no interest card. They waited six weeks to send me the first statement and then falsely claimed that I missed a payment. "Oops," it says on the top, "you're behind by a payment"! Of course they never sent the first statement and when I called and pointed out there wasn't even time in there to have been billed a first statement I was put on hold forever, Then transferred to a different manager, and when I inquired when they sent the first statement and she replied, I pointed out it was the day before the balance was transferred. And there was only two weeks between that date and the date of the statement I was holding - so how could a statement have been sent in that amount of time?
This is obviously fraudulent manipulation of the situation on their part to charge me a whopping $87.00 in finance and late fees right off the bat, and instantly eliminate the no interest bait for the card by claiming I had missed a payment. They said it would be ten days and I would receive a letter, and I'm waiting to see if they reinstate my no interest card I signed on for. When I found this site and read all the other complaints from people about them, I felt sure they were deliberately doing this probably not just to me but probably others. I'm relieved I had all my dates when the balance was transferred to argue my case, but as I said, I'm waiting to see if they fix this.

All of a sudden I got a letter from Allied Interstate demanding payment in full. I called them and they said it was because I was over limit. I never got anything from Capital One except my Oct statement due by Nov 3rd. It said I owed $15.00 payment nothing else. I paid $15.00 payment online on 11/3/08. Then they sent it to collection agency. I think this is outrageous. I read a lot of complaints online about Capital One. They should be closed down. I am cutting up my card.

It started with using the card one day to buy gasoline. The card was declined. My husband called and they asked him for the number on the back of the card. He didn't know what they were talking about, so they asked him some of the security questions. I had set up the account and the security questions were for me, so he answered them incorrectly. So they put a hold on the account. I called and they refused to let me answer the security questions because he is listed as the primary card holder. They said they had to have a copy of his driver's license, a copy of his social security card, and a copy of an utility bill in his name faxed to their office. I did that. Another company rep called my husband and started asking him all kinds of questions about our home mortgage and other credit information. He eventually hung up on her. All of our accounts are paid. We owe no money to Capital One. We just want to close the account and they won't do that.

Overcharged me on finance charge. I paid the full amount within grace period, but did it in two payments. I didn't know they would start charging a finance charge as soon as the first partial payment arrived. I think that practice is atrocious, but it is in the fine print (now that I have read it). But fraud came in when they charged me for full amount for full month, when the fine print says they will base charges on daily balance (which went way down after the first payment was received). They are just stealing money - how many people has this happened to that didn't catch it?

The first attempt was met with me talking to an undiscernible correspondent who cut me off after 30 seconds. The second try was met with the recording of an Indian gentleman who said all communications with India were temporarily disconnected. Next, attempted to communicate with the company via snail mail. Gave them three months to complete this consolidation. They missed the deadline. Heard nothing from Capital One. So I cancelled four cards. A final call to Capital One and I actually reached a man who sounded like a U.S. Citizen (or Canadian). He instructed me to call another 800 number. That 800 number to India was temporarily disconnected. Presently, all four accounts show up on the Capital One Website with an asterisk telling me to call that familiar 800 number.

I mailed written correspondence. I called their customer service three times. I was hung up on by one representative. Finally, I asked to speak to a supervisor. I called Capitol 1 earlier this month and gave them the names of 2 banks (credit cards) with their addresses. One was Juniper and the other Bank Of America. Capitol 1 mailed a check to Juniper for $5,150.00. This was done correctly and my Capitol 1 account has properly applied for this amount. Capitol 1 also mailed the second check in the amount of $6,207.00 to Juniper. They did this in error as this check should have been mailed to Bank Of America. When Capitol 1 mailed the $6,207.00 check it was made payable to Bank Of America with the correct Bank Of America account number on it. So how Juniper was able to cash it I do not know. I was able to get a representative from Capitol 1 and Juniper together on a conference call.
Thursday morning 10/23. The Capitol 1 representative, Sherise, gave the Juniper representative, Dana **, the account and routing numbers of the $6,207.00 check that Capitol 1 admits to sending to Juniper in error. Juniper, as far as I know, has not been able to locate this check. I called Capitol 1 to advised them that if Juniper has not been able to locate the check and send it to Bank Of America by the time the minimum payment is due which is 11/2, Capitol 1 will have to reimburse me for the minimum payment as I have to protect my credit rating. The Capitol 1 representative had nothing but attitude. She acted as if I was bothering her. She said that maybe they will consider reimbursing me. I advised her this is a reasonable request since all of this is Capitol 1's error but she was totally disinterested.
I asked to speak to someone higher than her due to her poor attitude but she advise me that there was no one else to speak to. She said I could call back to speak to someone else. I said what would that do since there is supposedly no one higher than her. She continued to be very sarcastic. I again asked to speak to someone higher than her. I have had a Capital One card for several years. My credit line started at $300.00 which I paid on time every month. I needed an increase, so Capital One increased my credit limit to 700. Again, I made my payments on time every month. My husband lost his job and we found it more and more difficult to make the payments. I called Capital one many times and tried to explain that we could not make the min payment and could we work out a workable solution. I was told Capital one does not do this. I told them if we couldn't work out something -it would end up going to a collection agency - in which it did. I wrote back the collection agency and told them my situation and asked again for a workable solution - again nothing.
I was getting medicine for my daughter and used my debt card to find out it was declined. I called my bank to find out why it was declined and found out that the attorney that is representing Capital One had frozen all of my accounts. I was NEVER served with court papers and now stuck without any money to buy food, gas or medicine for my daughter. I called the attorney and he said basically tough luck. They froze everything with my name attached to it - which meant my daughter's bank account. I told him the money he saw in my savings was for the mortgage. If we are behind one more month we will lose our house - he again said that's not his problem. As far as I'm concerned Capital One and the law office they use are crooks. I had to pay 1,700 + for a 700 credit limit. IF ANYONE READS THIS - NEVER NEVER USE CAPITAL ONE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE WILL HOLD.

Capital One Credit Cards billings are manipulated and charged over the limit fees when accounts are not over the limit. The over the limit charge does however take you over the limit and hence another over the limit fee is then charged. This has been happening the past couple of months since I called asking that my interest rate be reduced. I was told it would be if I had no over the limit fees. I have watched my statement carefully online and just checked the statement a couple of days ago and still had a small available balance. My credit limit is $5,000. My balance now is $5,021.76. It went over the $5,000 limit when the $39.00 over the limit fee was charged on 10-25-08. It doesn't take rocket science to look at the balance and when the only recent charge was the $39.00 to see that my balance couldn't have been over the limit when my account was assessed the $39.00 fee.

IF YOUR TIME IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, NEVER USE CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD. They are the worst in the industry! For the 4th or 5th time in a few months, they have put a hold on my credit card for no reason. It is so embarrassing! I am waiting in line to pay the cashier at a supermarket and the card gets declined. I know that there is plenty of money on the card, so I called the customer service number. Guess what? I am transferred to India, where I could barely understand the customer rep's thick Indian accent. I had to repeat my card number several times, then she argues that the number I gave is not a legitimate number. I said, "What?! I am reading the card that you, guys issued me and I have been using this same card for years." Then, she puts me on hold for several minutes. Upon her return, I remind her that I am still holding up the line at the supermarket and people are starting to glare at me like it's my fault that my credit card is having problems.
The service rep asks me to repeat the credit card number 2 more times, puts me on hold for 3 more minutes and then says that there is no hold on the card and for the cashier to try to run it again. For the 4th time, the store cashier runs the card and again, the computer screen says that the card is declined. I tell the service rep this, and she still insists that it is not on their end, but on the store's end. The cashier runs the card 2 more times. Same thing. I ask the service rep to be transferred to a supervisor and she says in an-I-don't-give-a-crap voice, "I can't transfer you until I exhaust all the troubleshooting possibilities. What are the last 3 digits on the back of your card?" I give her the number and she says, "That is an invalid code." Again, I shriek, "What?! I am simply reading the back of my card and I have used this code and this card for years? What is going on?" She says (amused), "Hold the line"... Again, I was on hold for several minutes, then she comes back on the line and said, "I don't see any problem on the card. Run the card again"... Maybe this time it will work. I ask the cashier (who at this time, is now glaring at ME), to run the card one last time. Guess what? Card is still declined and the phone goes dead! Unbelievable!

Upon checking my checking account balance, I realized that my checking account had been wiped clean and my account was overdrawn. In shock, I spoke with one of the representatives at my bank and was told that Capital One had garnished my account. I was flabbergasted and confused to say the least. About 3 1/2 years ago, my husband had an account with Capital One that was turned over to an attorney. Shortly after we received the notice from the attorney, we signed up with a credit counseling agency. The attorney's office that had taken over the Capital One account agreed to let us make payments through the credit counseling agency.
For 3 1/2 years we have been paying $306 a month on that account, never missing a payment and always paying on time (the money comes directly out of our account on a specific day each month). In the 3 1/2 years since we began paying the agreed upon sum, we have had no further correspondence from either Capital One OR the attorney (we were following our end of the bargain - they had no reason to call us!). Upon discovering that Capital One had garnished our account - wiped it clean, no less! - we first contacted our credit counseling agency who informed us that we are indeed current on our payments and, in fact, only have a remaining balance of around $600 on our account!
We have never had a judgement entered against us for Capital One (as far as I know) and have never received any notification that our checking account was going to be garnished by Capital One (as I mentioned before, we haven't heard anything from them in the 3 1/2 years since we made the payment agreement!). I'm not sure exactly what has happened here (it's the weekend, so we aren't able to contact any of the people we need to speak with), but it seems that Capital One has fraudulently taken money out of our account. And, we don't know if they're done!! It seems they've already taken double the amount that they are still owed out, and the bank says there is nothing we can to stop them.
I'm absolutely sick because we have been diligently paying them monthly for 3 1/2 years and all of a sudden they have dipped their hands into our checking account, leaving us with NO money for food, gas, bills, rent...Also, my husband and I both have direct deposit, so we are not sure if both of checks will be taken out when we get paid next weekend. I was really upset & emailed customer service @ least 3 times & got the same reply call the 1-800#! My concern was not addressed at all! I finally called & spoke to someone from India, he eventually told me it was a one time fee & could not be returned. To say I was upset is putting it mildly!
I emailed again & got the standard reply, so I called again! Someone else with an Indian accent. I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me their computers were updating (how convenient!) & to call back in 1 hour which I did. Spoke to another representative with the same accent! I told him I'd been told to call back to speak to a supervisor & he hung up on me!
By this time I am really frustrated & angry! I called again & spoke to a female with an accent & was told I could not get the finance charge back no matter what applications I had received! About a month ago, I had an application signed by someone from Capital One. I sent a letter to him/her thinking I would get the courtesy of a reply! How silly of me to think I would! I've heard nothing! Guess what... I've received @ least 2 more applications since then! I am disgusted & wish I had never heard of Capital One!

I opened an account with Capital One the beginning of August 2008 and requested two balance transfers. One with a credit card company and one for a loan attached to my checking account. At no time during my application process nor the other 3 times that I called looking to see why the loan has yet to be paid off did anyone tell me that they cannot pay off a loan that only has 9 digits nor one that isn't with a credit card company. I was told by a customer service agent that I would have to wait until Aug. 30th to give the check time to get to the bank before I can do anything about not receiving it. This check was processed on Aug. 14th.
I call on Aug. 30th and by this time I was told that they cannot help me after over an hour on the phone, the account has to be 16 digits so I ask for a check to be mailed to my home and I was told by two different agents that this was not possible. I then requested to speak to a manager in which he told me that it IS possible to send me a no hassle free check but the system is down and that I should call back after Labor Day and request one. I did that exact thing and spoke to another customer service rep and after being on the phone for over a half hour, she promised I would have the check no later than Sept. 19th. As you can guess, I still do not have the check.
I called today and I was told by yet another customer service rep that the check was never issued. I requested to speak to a manager. Once I explained my situation to her she begins to tell me that the check was failed to be processed and she will issue another one and it will take 5 days to process and 10 days to mail. My issue is this, why do I have to pay for your employees' errors? I have been promised for over a month and a half this check and yet I have no check. This mgr claims that she is the only manager that I can speak to in that building and that there is no one higher than her which I highly doubt unless I am transferred to another dept. She said she can transfer me to another dept. and when I asked what good that would do me she couldn't give me an answer.
I know there is alternate ways of shipping seeing as I work in Human Resources and deal w/ payroll for the no. 1 distribution company in the USA and I also know that when a company makes countless errors you do whatever is possible to make your customer happy. I asked that a check be overnighted to me in which I was told that is not possible, I told her I will work w/ her and would wait til Monday and she still told me that is not possible. She said that I would have to wait the typical time line for any customer requests even when I have waited extremely too long as it is. She in no way tried to help me and I find that very disheartening especially in the times we are in now economically.
I have an 800 credit rating which means I can do business w/ just about anyone and I chose Capital One in which I highly regret now. I then requested another check for the third time and was promised but this agent that he would personally make sure it goes through. Of course, it didn't and I had to call and speak to another 3 individuals before I got Jamie a senior manager. She told me I could go to a bank and get a cash advance and she would personally change my account from a cash advance to a balance transfer. I went to use my card last week and it was declined. I just found out someone closed my account and it was not me.
I called today and asked them to pull up the recording of me allegedly canceling my account and after being transferred to 3 different managers I was told that there is nothing that they can do for me and that they cannot pull up recordings. I never in my life have dealt w/ such an incompetent company and never in my life will I ever do business w/ them again.

My Application was approved in July 08 and my Secured draft of $300.00 (Money Order) was sent out to Capital One in August 08. Today, they have received the request and they will send out my Credit card a.s.a.p. after completing the verification, a total of five months. Initially, on phone, the information I gave them was clearly explained regarding my mailing address which is at PO Box but the lady representative did not pay any attention to my instruction not to send it to my Home address which is at **... and so on. So, she mailed out the Credit Card to my home address instead of the PO Box no. and I never received any credit card from them since then.
I was so worried that something went wrong. So I called up the Capital One again to find out, the next thing I remember was the lady told me that they have sent in the credit card to my Home address which is at **... I told her that it will be returned to the sender if you have sent it already. The lady operator just explained that the department have sent it already, but she will change and update the mailing address a.s.a.p. and will resend it once again. When finally after 2 months, they have received my first returned credit card because of an error that was made in the first place sent to the wrong mailing address.
So, they wrote a letter again to me saying that because of government regulation... blah, blah, blah. I must send them a copy of ID photos with my signature plus 2 copies of my bills etc. So, they can resend out my Credit Card in the mail, a.s.a.p. Today, I just got an information that they have received my information that they require. So I have to wait for another 7 to 10 working days to received my Credit Card. If I get this Credit card within the next 10 days, a total of nearly 5 months was wasted since my $300.00 draft monies was sent out to their collection department last July 2008.
Earlier on today around 11 a.m., I have just spoken to Mr. John ** - at tel.1800-4813239 and I told him I am so pissed off about the delaying tactics that your Co. is doing. When I asked him to verify my information, he cannot find my file based on my name, Phone no. and Social Insurance No. So, I asked him what if I just cancel the whole thing and refund my $300.00. He said that the cancellation will take a minimum of 60 days to get your secured money back in the mail. He suggested I might as well just keep the credit card instead of canceling, it is not worth it.

One week later, I come to find out that the account was never closed properly. So in the meantime, I am being charged NSF charges of $35.00 apiece and the account ended up being $539.00 negative. I approached the bank location and they said it is not their responsibility to make sure the account is closed. While this is happening, I have 2 other accounts there that they froze all my funds.
Being a small business owner, I can't be without my funds. After going into the branch and sitting down with them and having a meeting, requesting that they make sure to close that account properly and refund us for the NSF charges that were charged to me. The following day, Will called me stating that he had spoken the the branch manager, Michelle, and they had decided to close all of our accounts. I spoke to Will on Monday and he stated that all of my funds would be released Wednesday 10-15. I went into the branch today to retrieve the balance of my funds and now they say that I can get them tomorrow. I need these funds to now open a new account at a different bank so that I can run my business. They have not been ethical about any of this. They also are stating that they will NOT be refunding the NSF charges that was their fault for the account not being closed properly.

For the last 2 weeks, every single day, I have been getting an average of 1-3 solicitation calls from Capital One. They call relentlessly from morning to night, weekends and holidays, even though I have asked them each time not to call again. Nothing is sacred to these people. I have spoken with supervisors there only to be told it will take a few months to update their database and get my contact information out of their systems, even though I am on the National Do Not Call List. The worst part of these calls is not only the inconvenience of being woken up in the morning or at night by these people or during dinner, but the fact that when I ask them not to call back they get rude and disrespectful and hang up the phone in my face! Only to put me through the same exact thing the very next day 7 days a week! It's like a recurring nightmare. Something needs to be done. I shouldn't have to go through this kind of treatment in my own home for the next few months until they update their database. This is just ridiculous.

This caused an extreme overdraft on our account. Capital One Bank’s response so far has been, “Sorry, but that is the way we do business, and we have the right to do this to you at any time.”

Let me be very clear and unambiguous, we do not want a Capital One Credit Card. We do not want any balance transfers and we request that you immediately destroy all the information we submitted. Please be advised that we called for a balance transfer. We were told we were approved up to $30,000.00. We were advised that they were unable to process the request unless we gave them balance transfer information. The person we talked to was Brian who clearly did not know what the process was to cancel. When we found out that there only was an approval for $2,000.00 we indicated that we wanted to immediately cancel and we were told that was not possible. Brian indicated that we would have to call another number to make the cancellation. We made a three way call and Brian was present for the entire call with the cancellation department.
We called and talked to the cancellation department which was located in Texas. At that time we talked to a person who said he could not accomplish the cancellation but gave us his supervisor who was Mike whose employee I.D. is **. When after 15 minutes with Mike checking he advised that he would be unable to cancel and we would receive notification in 7 to 10 days. I said that was not acceptable. I asked to talk to his supervisor and was advised that he could not give that information and his supervisor would not talk to anyone. The fact that they said they could not cancel was based on Capital One policy. I requested to be advised exactly what the Capital One Policy he was relying upon and was told that he could not provide that information.
I asked multiple times why they could not cancel the application and he said it was not possible. I asked why and never received an answer. I also asked to obtain a fax setting forth in writing what they had represented. I was told that they did not have a fax machine in their office. I was told that to cancel I would need to write or fax your office. I am doing this and want to receive an immediate fax confirming the cancellation and assuring us that no balance transfers will be accomplished.

It was the same woman who called me each time.
After she proceeded to read me the riot act....she then hung up on me. Yes she did! But not before sarcastically telling me to have a nice day! I never got her name, she had an accent and was hard to understand. I immediately called back and asked to talk with someone for customer complaint. His comment to that was: "well as I said, your number was removed from our call list." He never apologized for the woman's rudeness or hanging up on me. One, I'm late I have received a late fee of $39 and not to mention a Over the Limit charge ($39) to go with it, because their past due charge made me go over the limit. Now, they say they can't do anything about the charges, because I made my payment too early that billing cycle didn't end yet, I was supposed to wait till Sept. 2nd to pay then it would have been applied to that statement instead my payment on August 23rd went towards my previous bill which end on August 2nd that payment had already been made and posted.
BAD COMPANY BAD SERVICE!!!!! RIDICULOUS FEES!! Early payment how crazy I have to pay fees (Late & Over the Limit) for an early payment! They simply say we're sorry, I am sorry you feel that way. We can't do anything about it, it is system generated. I see enough complaints on here, I don't understand why they haven't had a CLASS ACTION put against them yet. I received a $3,000 credit limit and was making my payments on time every month for about 5 months and they told me that I was going to receive a $500 credit limit increase if I kept making my payments on time. They sent me balance transfer checks and more information and increased my credit limit after 6 months. I went to the store one day and was going to use my card. (I knew that I had like 800.00 dollars available with the increase I had just received and I didn't have my debit card on me so I figured no big deal considering I only bought like $11.00 worth of stuff). The lady at the store ran my card and told me it was declined. Impossible I thought.
Well I went home and called immediately thinking that someone had made an error or stole my identity or something. Nope. Apparently they had made a mistake when they issued my credit limit, and the credit limit increases. They had decreased my credit limit with no prior notice. They decreased it to $2500 leaving me over my new credit limit. Then they start charging me over the limit fees, and late fees for not paying the complete new minimum of the 300.00 dollars.
I had not missed or been late on a payment on this account or any other account. It took me 6 months to get it under the new balance and no one wanted to help and told me they sent me a letter telling me they were going to decrease my credit limit. When I asked for a copy of the letter they told me they couldn't find a copy of it right at the moment but that I had received it. I also asked if they would reverse the fees or give my acct a review and increase my limit so that it wouldn't put me over the limit and they said no. They also stated to me that they had others they had made mistakes on and they were also reporting that they had not received any letter either.
I don't understand how you can be sending out balance transfer checks to use on your acct. that you are getting a credit limit increase on and they be told you knew they were decreasing you credit limit. I think that there has to be some sort of law that was broken by charging me and not sending me the letter when I asked for a copy of it. I was so embarrassed when I was told my card was declined in front of like 6 different customers, I had no way of purchasing the dinner items I needed. I ended up paying way too much in fees and I am still getting over the limit fees because I am now very close to my limit every month because of the interest. I can't pay the card down because of all the charges I just want to get rid of this card.

So the bank got info of all the credit card pay-offs. Money was sent to each and every creditor on that list. So we ended up getting results in the mail of creditors that in fact had closed out our accounts. Every one sent out info on our accounts being closed, for the exeption of CAPITOL ONE. They cashed in the checks sent to them. And never closed the accounts out.
In their statements, terms and conditions it states the account has to be paid to 0 before the account is closed out. So in what efforts did they use the pay-off money sent to them to close these accounts out. They basically took the money then purposely did not close these accounts, even after notifying them over the phone. And now recently went into our bank account to try to recieve funds owed to them, which in fact they were already paid in full by a Bank. And are sueing me for compiled interest rates.

I planned a trip to Ireland in May 2008 using BMIT as the agent and charging the charges onto my credit card. My agent told me the charges were $5680. When I received my bill, I had two charges, one for 5706 and another for 102. Without an receipt or anything I had signed, I could not understand the fees as they were different than I was told. I went through the dispute department of the company and was finally told that there was nothing they could do, they must honor what the credit card had told them was the charge. I then went to the Better Business Bureau.
The only response they have made was to forward a letter dated 7/23/08 from BMIT telling that they had finally attached a receipt to the BBB. They had not. The Boston BBB had sent me the letter and I had to ask repeatedly for the receipt. The Boston BBB finally said they had no receipt. Just last week (almost 5 months later) BMIT forward a short receipt to me. My concern is that a credit card company does not require any substantiation of charges and goes purely by the company's word.
In addition, the company churned the dispute. I would be told to send them paperwork to explain my charge. I would check, they would have info. Later they would close the claim, saying they had received nothing. I had to begin to send all info through the mail with delivery notification. I was often told they had something, told a little later, they had nothing. Once this situation is straightened out, I will close this credit card. However, I would like to believe that credit cards require something proving a charge. Something with my signature or a receipt upon request.

I have three credit accounts at Capital One Bank. Two are for the business and one is a personal one. I am paying 24.99% interest on two of these accounts. On the other one I am paying 16.99% interest. I have tried to consolidate the two business accounts and they will not allow it.
Then, I received my last bill. There was an over limit charge and a past due fee. The account could not be past due because I pay the bill on the 25th of each month. So, with the past due amount, it put me over the limit. They also charged me $51 interest. Can you help?

For the last three months i have been getting calls from capital one three times a day and seven days a week, when i answer no one speaks i have been told by a freind that it is a computer doing this. The word Harassment springs to mind. When i applied for the card i stated that i was unemployed and on disability with a yearly income of app 5000 pounds yet they still allowed me a card, even though there forms stated minimum 10000 per year.
When i have spoken to cap one staff they appear to come from another country and dont speak good english. I will try to pay this debt off when i can but i will not if i get constant harassment from them, ie (silent phone calls).
I applied for this card after i had a stroke in 2005 and was on full disability benefit , i am still off work on long term sick and do not need crank calls 24/7 even sunday mornings when in church. The card was a 200pound limit and i am being charged intrest at around 30 pound a month, i know i owe the money but it seems to me a drastic tactic to try and recover this debt..i am no longer on full D.L.A. and get 83 pounds a week in benefit now.

That was all I ever did on that card. Subsequently I've paid a total of $850 on this account and am now being sued for $1155.33 (OTL & Late fees) + $60.80 interest + court costs. This is theft. I've told several collectors they would have to take me to court and now they are. I am disgusted to have to commit any further time or effort to this. I was promised a lower APR by a CSR Capital One never gave it to me. They claimed that the request to do so was denied. However, they never told me that they were putting in a request. They told me that it would definitely be lowered and that I would get a letter by U.S. mail confirming the APR change. After complaining about it and seemingly getting nowhere, I asked them the name, address and the CEO of Capital One. They gave me some phony fax number where the letter I sent was probably trashed.
When I called back to see if my letter had been received, the account manager stated that there was no way I could speak to someone in Richard Fairbanks' office and that she was the highest I could go. At that point, I made a decision that I would not let this situation pass without making several attempts to contact someone in upper level management to inform them of how their customers were being treated and how they were being lied to just to get them off the phone.
I accrued several late and over the limit fees as a result of the APR not being lowered as promised. I raised enough cane about it that they removed the late fees for three months straight. I was also being reported to the credit bureaus as being late, thusly damaging my credit score.

Capital One Screws everyone they can
I got my first credit card just before I turned 21 from these jackals. I had just reached a year with my former employeer so I figured I'd build up as much credit as possible as quick as possible with maybe $70-100 of free credit remaining, which is my fault entirely. But I had no way to know that within two weeks I'd suspended and eventually. Now while serving up a 5 week suspension there was no reason to call their protection coverage, since suspension is not included.
At the end of the suspension I was fired (unjustly, but not what we are talking about right now), within 24 hours of being informed of my termination I spoke with capital one and told them of my current employment woes and was given the number for thier protection agency. When I called them I was informed that one missed payment and they no longer cover you, but will continue to charge you.
On numerous times I've asked them to stop charging the card because I've had an unfortunately large amount of luck in the employment area(employed less than half of the time the past 3 years). Though within these 3 years I've paid them $1,000 on to a card that had a $500 limit. Becuase of inconsistent employment it was impossible to maintain monthly payments. So everytime I'd get a chance to make a payment I'd have to send them $200 or more just to get it back to the balance let alone paid off.
Now though I've done my best to work with them and thier limited amount of space to work. It was pushed to the point of harasment where I would have to explain the hell of the past 3 years of my life every 24 hours being asked a myriad of the same questions over and over again. Being unemployed and stressed to that extent so continously is not something I could handle without wanting to kill myself(even explaining my psych diagnosis, but recieving little more than a small violin) so I had to start ignoring them for my own health. Which leads us to my current state with them as usuall they've continued to charge the card balance is now $1210 being threatened with lawyers and attorney's fees over a small claims. Do yourselves don't deal with these leeches and they really should be charged for thier recent business practices which have sank our economy. Harrasing the unemployed that they helped unemploy now that's redundent.

I went online and checked my account. I'm used to them sending out the statement by mail almost too late to pay ontime, so I always go online for it. My new statement was available, so I went ahead and made my next payment. The next month I see late fees and OTL charges even though I didn't use the card at all. It turned out that while I could see the statement, that doesn't mean things are updated in their system yet.
So my payment was applied to the previous month that I had already paid and no payment was applied to the current month. I was getting hit with late charges that sent it over the limit, then getting over the limit charges added to that, all for paying too early. The day my new statement was available was TOO EARLY to make a payment. It took a lot of arguing, but I got them to remove those charges. Then I promptly paid off the balance.
It took 5 phone calls over a two week period to get them to cancel the card after that. Every time I called, that department was having system issues and couldn't even pull up account information. If I called to ask a question or go to the credit increase department or anything else they could pull up all of my info, just not the cancel dept. Finally got the account closed and will never have anything to do with Capital One again.

Our next recourse is to, hopefully, bring an action in small claims and get these people to stop.

I know I owe them money but the harassment tactics of phones too late and 2-3 times per hour is insane. The payment on my credit cards would not be so behind if they had not charged me $39 over-the-limit fee which was created due to the $39 late fee being added to my account.
I now sit oweing $677 on a $500 limit account. I did not make any additional purchses above $490, the fees are causing the problem. My auto loan is just as much a joke, when I have spoken to someone, they lied about the hardship help, Capital One wants the money, but have no regard for their customers. My auto loan will take months to get caught up and they will continue the phone calls daily until I'm caught up per several reps I've talked to. Several months later I made a mistake and did not complete the on-line transaction, which resulted in a late pay or default. The balance on the card was a little over $400. They immediately put a hole on over 20,000 in points for an account not in good standing. I offered to use the 20,000 points for $100 towards the balance and pay the rest to $0. I paid the balance, like I do every month and cancelled the card. CpaitalOne has placed this on my grandson's credit file as a colleciton item, and told me on 8/27/08 that if the bill was not paid they would file for judgement. I really don't understand this company.
Why would a company of this size not try to help people after they give a teenager without a job, still in highschool a credit card and accept not to have probelms. No wonder the credit card business has to be baled out my the taxpayer. Employers now pull credit files to see if you are a creditable person, the CapitalOne people really don't care what they do to these kids. I have filed a complaint with the Attorney Genral of the State of Missouri. I have written a letter to Mr.Fairbanks the CEO of CapitalOne. I have emailed the Press of CapitalOne.
I have heard from no-one! I will reamin frim that I will not pay these people more than $450. The lesson to my grandson, he lost his transportaion, he now rides a bike. He understands that Credit Cards are not a good thing. It has been a hard lesson for him to learn. I think he has been punished enough.
The CapitalOne account is now in collections and on his credit file. He sold his transportation to pay it off. CapitalOne will not settle.

I am being sued by Capitol One, but North Star Capital Acquisition is suing me for $1073.74. I am on a fixed income. I cannot pay this. This debt started out as $500 and over the course of about 5 years I have not been able to pay it as the amount kept getting higher and higher.
This debt has gone from one collector to another over these 5 years and I have not been able to pay it and now I am being sued. I have been told North Star Capitol Acquisition is a scam. Is there anything can be done to help me. I may end up losing my place to live if I have to give them my rent money. I am disabled and do not know what I can do. I do not have money for an attorney, but if there is one that can talk to me they can call me.

I called Capital one and they refer me to referal agency which gives the number back to the attorney office which I paid the account. I spent 6 hours on the phone trying to resolve the matter. I need to have this reflecting paid or satified inorder to keep my job.

My requested was fullfilled and he then proceeded to tell me that within 5-7 business day my card would be in the mail. On the 6th day I received my card as specified. I then proceeded to phone the number on the back of the credit card to activate my new card. My call was asnswered in a prompt and curtious manner. I requested my card be activated.
She then aquired all the right information then proceeded to tell me that she could not help me because there was a speical case coordinator that she would have to transfer me to. A answering picked up my call, then I left all information for her to return my call. Two days later there was still no rely to my call. I then phoned the 1-800 number to see if there was any progress being made on my card. I then again told the person working for Capital One my situation, was put on hold and hold and hold. Then to my surprise another operater came on and asked me the same previous questions.
I explained calmly once again my scenero and was once again transfered to a answering machine. I then phoned the day after, it was a dejae view of the previous phone calls. On Monday morning of the following week I called Capital One's 800 number. The exact conversations were disucussed and there was no solution to my problem.

10/10/2007 - paid $1600.00 by check to Capitol One credit card account. 06/06/08 - Message left by phone by United Recovery Systems, LP stating my Capitol One account was in delinquency. I never knew the account was in delinquency and was never informed through any paperwork prior to the phone call. It was a Friday and late in the day and tried to call the next day on Saturday but the office was closed.
06/10/08 - I called back Ms. Karen F. at United Recovery Systems, LP and was told that my Capitol One account was in delinquency and needed to pay the amount of $2,693.44 or will suffer negative credit reports. I explained to her that I paid the account balance off on 10/10/07 with a check but she stated that Capitol One never received the check. I tried to ask her for a little more time to prove that I paid the balance off but she said that I needed to pay the $2,693.44 now. So in fear of my credit being affected, I immediately sent an official check of $2,693.44 to United Recovery Systems, LP. I was also told that I would receive a detailed statement in the next few days.
06/20/08 - I sent a letter to United Recovery Systems, LP stating I owed nothing to Capitol One and paid off the balance on 10/10/07. Enclosed I sent a copy of the check that Capitol One deposited on 10/10/07. The check proves that Capitol One received the check and took my money on 10/10/07. I was also inquiring if I would be returned the $2,693.44 and also that I have still not received any statements from Capitol One or United Recovery Systems, LP. Most importantly, I was asking if my credit score was affected or not. 07/14/08 - I still received no contact from United Recovery Systems, LP or Capitol One. I sent the same letter to United Recovery Systems, LP containing the copy of the check that was deposited on 10/10/07 by Capitol One. I also stated in the letter that I would take legal action.
07/17/08 - I finally received a call from Ms. Karen F. from United Recovery Systems, LP. She stated that she had received the letter both times on 06/20/08 and 07/14/08 but there was no proof of the enclosed deposited check by Capitol One. She told me I was lying but I made copies and copies of everything I have sent or received. She told me to fax the necessary documents to her that day. I immediately faxed the copy of the deposited check by Capitol One on 10/10/07.
08/23/08 - Since 07/17/08 I have had (3) credit cards cancelled by the issuing companies. All three stating the following reasons, serious delinquency and amount owed on delinquent accounts. I have had no problems with these other credit cards but they are being affected because of this situation with United Recovery Systems, LP and Capitol One.
I still have received no reply from Capitol One or United Recovery Systems, LP. I am confused about the situation because none of it makes sense. From what I know, I have made timely payments and for some reason Capitol One and United Recovery Systems, LP think that I have not paid anything. I am trying to get my $2,693.44 returned to me because I should have no delinquent account because I paid off my account on 10/10/07. Most importantly this situation has affected my credit score. I am a consumer with over an 800 credit score and now this event has destroyed my credit and I am seeking to restore it back to its original state.
I have had (3) credit cards canceled by the following: Macy's, Fry's Electronics, and Bank of America. Each of the creditors stated the factors for cancellation are serious delinquency and amount owed on delinquent accounts. The problem should have been resolved by now. I am also trying to get my $2,693.44 returned to me. My biggest concern is that my credit score was over 800 prior to this event and no it is negatively affected and I wish it to be returned to its normal state.

I have been a Capital one card holder for years, prob. since I was old enough to have a card? I have had little problems. Thus because I only use my card for purchases, that I pay off every month. A few years back Payment protection started taking cash out of my account without authorization. So, I called and went threw 50 hoops to fix, and get credits. It was not so big of a deal then because it was only a few bucks here and there. Thats when I was not making a lot, and not spending a lot.
Recently I have noticed they are still taking money from my card every month. Now, as I make a lot more, I spend a lot more. They have been taking Hundreds of dollars from me. So I have called complained, have put holds on my card, you name it. They still take money out of my account.
Payment Protection is an insurance company that is in affiliation with Capital one. Although they are not the same company. Whenever I call, they just intentionally give me the run around to get me to hang up, or they will hang up on me. These are fraud charges that they will not file. They as a credit card company are required to file, with your request.
Well they take your money. They have poor customer service (take my time).

On MArch 29th, I made a wire transfer payment from Capital One card to my discover card. I kept calling for 2 weeks after that to make sure the other party recieved the check. Two weeks later the money had been debitted from Capital One, but was not reflecting on my Discover card. I tried to dispute the amount of 450.00, but capital one said they couldn't because the check had already been cashed. I called both companies and they said it was going to be a while for the money to reflect on Discover card.
A month passed, I called Discover card. They said they needed a copy of the cancelled check. CApital One sent me the check and I sent it to Discover. 3 weeks after that, Discover sends me the letter that the check wasn't cashed by them. I called Capital One back. Linda from the fraud dept told me to write to the address that the payment was sent. I asked her why she couldn't do it because it happened from the capital one website and she freaked out on me telling, You are making it sound like I am not trying to help you, but I am giving you the address. I asked her to send me another copy of the cancelled check, which she didn't. It has been 3 weeks since I sent a letter to the address she gave me, and I got no reply.
I have been working on this issue since March. $450.00 is a lot of money for me. I am trying to live debt free and mantain good credit standing. This incident has already stressed me down and to be talked down on, by Linda was even more aggravating. CApital One boast of fraud protection, but they did nothing for my case. I even tried to dispute the amount. They said they couldn't do it because the check has already been cashed. Moreover, the fraud dept works on the week days and closed on the weekends. So after a stressful day at work, I have to come home and carry on a stressful conversation with these people who are so inconsiderate of whaat has just happened.

My husband opened a Capital One credit card in 2005. I am an authorized user on the account. This is very embarrassing that I am going to disclose this information, but we are out of options. We had maxed the card limit ($10,000) and then payed it off in 2007. Unfortunately, we maxed the card limit in the past year again due to financial difficulties. Our monthly minimum payment became too large for us to afford. I was late on a payment or two, but wanted to make sure I was paying something.
When I realized we weren't going to be able to afford to pay the minimums anymore and noticed that even though I was making payments before, we weren't getting the balance to go anywhere, I called Capital One to see if they'd work with us and set up payment arrangements or something. They told me that they had no programs for us and that we'd have to come up with several hundred dollars in order to get caught up. Well, there was absolutely no way we could do that. I told them it was too bad they weren't willing to work with us or anyone in financial hardship because they were probably not going to get anything repaid. I guess I thought they would take whatever we could pay until we were better off.
Citibank, on the other hand was wonderful and set us up on a plan to pay that card off with no hitch. They were incredible to work with and couldn't believe I was having this much trouble with Capital One. Yesterday, my husband received a phone call from NCO stating we were in pre-legal status and needing to take action on this debt. I called the gentleman back and explained that I had tried to work something out with Capital One before it got to this point. He said Capital One is a very high risk credit company and that they get ugly when it comes to collecting.
We understand this is our debt and are fully prepared to repay it somehow. The gentleman said if we can pay 30% on the card in one payment then we can make $50 payments every month thereafter. He said the over-limit fees and late fees would subside but the interest would still accrue. $50 per month wouldn't even make a dint in the balance because of all the interest that will be added each month. We thought we could do that until we got caught up on everything else and my husband or myself make more money. The problem is coming up with the 30%.
Capital One has shown that they really are not a no-hassle company. They are threatening to put a judgment out for my husband. I asked them what could happen from that point. They said our bank account could be frozen, wages garnished and several other things that would not be good for a family of 5. We have 3 children and can not have this happen. What do we do?

Capital One has, yet again, charged a late fee to my account when the payment was well above the minimum required and paid well before the due date. This particular instance, the statement date was from June 20 to July 19. The minimum payment was $15 due Aug 13. I paid $190 on 7/7, $40 on 7/18, and I found myself with some extra cash so paid an additional $30 on 7/18. That is a total of $260 over the billing period. Last time I did my math, that is more that $15 and I do believe that 7/18 and 7/7 are both before 8/13.
A charge of $39 was charged to my account on 8/13. This charge was labeled as a late fee. I talked to some Indian guy that could not understand why I was complaining saying that my payments were for the previous month. I don't know how he came up with that one. He ended up hanging up on me.
I then called back and talked to someone named Linda. I believe she was trying to be helpful but said that my account did not exist in the system. I'm not sure where my account went between talking to the Indian guy and Linda but she looked by account number, name and social and said it did not exist. I asked if this indicated that I did not have to make any more payment to Capital One but she would not confirm this. This issue as not yet been resolved. Late charges have been charged to by account like this before and none have been resolved.
$39 for each instance but not sure exactly how many times they have done this. Would need to go over my statements to check for sure.

I received my capitol one card about 6 months ago - the first month no problem; the second month I was 1 day late in paying the card, they threw on a 49 dollar late fee (fine, it was after all my own fault I was a day late in paying), but by doing that it put my card over the limit in which they threw on another 39. Over limit fee. I was a bit irritated, but alright I paid the balance in full; Capitol One then placed a ten day hold on my card, but never informed me of this. So thinking there was a positive credit balance my husband placed 2.95 cent charge on it. Capitol One turned and placed another 39 dollar over limit fee, which they refused to take off at that I was hung up on twice, and no I wasnt being rude.
The last 4 months I have not been over the limit or late on my payments; this last time I was actually 8 days early and they have still placed a hold on the card, every month. And every time I call all I get told is we're allowed to place holds on any account when we choose, ma'am Even from the supervisor and then thank you for calling Capital one - click
Whats that? The customer pays the bill on time and in full and still gets penalized?
Needless to say the account will be canceled but now after reading some of these other complaints; I am worried I am going to end up with other problems!!!
I only got this card to help clean up my credit - but what a huge mistake that was; I recommend to anyone who is reading this - DO NOT GET A CAPITAL ONE CARD. There are so many hidden fees and they take full advantage of every one of them. And watch your statement very closly, I have been billed 2-3 times for the same transaction, this has happened multiple times.
